I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 SONATA ON THE INTERSTATE AT NORMAL SPEEDS, WHEN I HEARD A BANG AND THEN SOME CLICKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO I PULLED OVER QUICKLY. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WHITE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN I GOT OUT, THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. I CALLED 911 WHEN MY QUICK ATTEMPT TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A BOTTLE OF WATER WAS USELESS. I WAS ADVISED BY 911 TO GET CLEAR OF THE CAR AND SO I WATCHED AS MY CAR WITH LESS THEN 35,000 MILES BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THERE HAD BEEN NO ISSUES WITH THE CAR UP UNTIL THIS FIRE. IT TOTALLY BURNED IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES.

THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000. I SAW THE RECALL NOTICE IN THE PAPER. CALL DEALER,HAD APPOINTMENT TODAY. WHEN ARRIVED TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM YET. THIS IS BULL I THINK HYUNDAI IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A CHEAP WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM KILL OR INJURED BEFORE THEY FIND THEIR CHEAP SOLUTION. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND BECAUSE OF MY HUSBAND RECENT DEATH, I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. PLEASE TRY TO EXPEDITE HYUNDAI TO FIX.
MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THE CAR IN FEB 2015. WE TOOK A TRIP IN THE CAR TO NY IN SEPT 2015. ONLY 7MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, ALL THE LIGHTS BLINKED ON. THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN, WE HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN. THE CAR JUST STALLED. LUCKILY WE DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WE TOWED IT TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER, WHO TOLD US WE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER ENGINE. THEY COULDN'T EVEN ASSIST US WITH A RENTAL. SO WE ARE PAYING OUT OF POCKET FOR A RENTAL CAR. LUCKILY THIS RECALL WAS SET. HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET REIMBURSED FOR THIS RENTAL CAR.

STEERING WHEEL BECAME LOOSE AND MADE CLUNKING NOISE. DEALER SAID THIS WAS COMMON WITH 2010 TO 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA AND COULD CREATE A SAFETY PROBLEM OF THE CAR BEING HARD TO STEER. HE SAID THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AS HE HAS HAD MANY WARRANTY CLAIMS OF THIS PROBLEM. DEALER REPLACED WORM SHAFT FLEX COUPLING PART # 56315F00 AND 56315-2K000-FFF. HYUNDAI SUPPOSEDLY REDESIGNED PART IN 2014 MODEL
MY 2012 SONATA STEERING MAKING A CLICKING NOISE AND AT SLOW SPEEDS FEELS LIKE THERE IS A GAP TURN RIGHT TO LEFT AND VISA VERSA. THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED I TURN STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT AND RIGHT TO LEFT THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE?

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH RESIDENTIAL AREA MY ENGINE MADE LOUD CLICKING SOUNDS AND LOST COMPLETE POWER. I COASTED TO A SIDE STREET AND PARKED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR PRIOR ISSUES TO ALERT ME THAT MY ENGINE WAS TROUBLED. TRIED TO RESTART AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING AND MAKING NOISE SO I CUT IT OFF AND CALLED FOR A TOW. AFTER RETURNING HOME I BEGIN TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE ON THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR CAR. THIS TOLD ME THAT MY ENGINE PROBLEMS WERE JUST A COINCIDENCE BUT MORE OF A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I HAD A MECHANIC VERIFY THAT MY ENGINE WAS GONE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. LUCKILY I WAS NOT DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHICH SOME DRIVERS REPORTED. HYUNDAI, OF COURSE, REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE. I SEE TWO LAW FIRMS THAT IN PROCESS OF FILING CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. WILL IT TAKE PEOPLE TO LOSE THEIR LIVES BEFORE THIS ISSUE IS INVESTIGATED AND HYUNDAI IS MAKE TO CORRECT ANY WRONGDOING? I AM IN THE PROCESS NOW OF HAVING A DEALERSHIP DO A DIAGNOSTIC SO THAT I CAN FILE A CLAIM WITH HYUNDAI. I AM NOT SURE IF HYUNDAI WILL COVER THE COST OF REPAIR OR NOT. HOWEVER, I THINK YOUR AGENCY OWES IT TO THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND THE CLAIMS OF HUNDREDS OF OWNERS ABOUT THEY PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE USED.
A VERY LOUD, CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELARATE AND EVENTUALLY STALLED ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACED AND I HAD TO ACQUIRE A RENTAL CAR FOR A WEEK. I WAS THEN INFORMED OF THE RECALL AFTER MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE ENGINE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED SO ANOTHER REBUILT HAD TO BE INSTALLED. REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS IS EXPECTED DUE TO RECALL.
PRIOR TO RECALL NOTIFICATION, MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE WAS MAKING A VERY LOUD, "CLANKING" NOISE., AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IF I ATTEMPTED TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE NOISE WOULD BECOME LOUDER. WHILE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A GARAGE. UPON INSPECTION, THE MECHANICS STATED THE ENGINE WAS BEYOND REPAIR AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. A REBUILT ENGINE, WITH 50,000 MILES WAS PLACED INTO THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO OBTAIN A RENTAL CAR FOR A WEEK WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE FAITHFULLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED IN MY CAR EVERY 3,000 MILES AND HAD TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT. I CONTACT A HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE WHO TOLD ME TO UPLOAD MY EXPENSES INCURRED TO THE WEBSITE, WHICH I HAVE DONE. HE ALSO TOOK MY INFORMATION AND SUBMITTED A CLAIM FOR THE ISSUE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE OR HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY INVOICES; IF NOT, I WILL RESUBMIT. A WEEK OR SO AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I NOTICED A RECALL WAS BEING ISSUED FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED. HAD I BEEN AWARE OF THE RECALL PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE 2ND TO LEFT LANE ABOUT 65 MPH, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN SHE LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. SHE SAY'S SHE PUSHED IT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES, NO PRESSURE, NO CONTROL AND OBVIOUSLY SLOWED DOWN. SHE MOVED OVER TO GET TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO STOP AND SEE WHAT IS THE ISSUE, LUCKILY THE BRAKES WORKED (HARD PEDAL), BUT MANY CARS WERE DODGING HER TRYING NOT TO HIT HER. SHE DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT SURE CLOSE TO BEING IN ONE AND HIGH SPEEDS. FRIGHTENING TO SAY THE LEAST. I HAS ABOUT 87,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I AM STILL CONCERNED IF I PUT ANOTHER ENGINE SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN? IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN UNLESS IT'S RECALLED AND THE PROBLEM FIXED! I AM JUST GLAD SHE DIDN'T GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I AM VERY CONCERNED KNOWING THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE WITH THE 2011-2015 2.4L ENGINE. I TRIED TO BE PROACTIVE THEREFORE I'M POSTING THIS COMPLAINT FOR OTHERS. I GUESS IT TAKES COLLATERAL DAMAGE OF PEOPLE LOSING LIFE FOR CAR COMPANIES AND THE WONDERFUL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO TAKE NOTICE. BEWARE MOST 2011-2015 HYUNDAE SONATA CARS HAVE THIS PROBLEM FROM WHAT I AM TOLD.
ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS (AS HYUNDAI STATES WE WOULD HAVE) WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 73-75 MPH. WAS ACCELERATING TO MOVE FROM LEFT LANE TO RIGHT IN ORDER TO EXIT HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON NJ 78 WEST. WITHOUT WARNING ALL LIGHTS CAME ON AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN. PAYING TO HAVE A USED ENGINE INSTALLED WITH A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP SAYS HYUNDAI WILL NOT REPLACE OUR ENGINE FOR FREE BECAUSE WE WERE OVER THE WSRRSNTY PERIOD.
ON 08/30/2015, I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA TO MY RESIDENCE AND THE ENGINE TO THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASHBOARD LIGHTED UP, AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE ENGINE OF THE VEHICLE AT NO COST, BUT I WAS CHARGED $125.87 FOR A NEW CAR BATTERY. MY CAR BATTERY WAS FULLY OPERATIONALLY BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WOULD LIKE A REFUND FOR THE AMOUNT I PAID FOR THE CAR BATTERY. I WAS TRAVELING ON A PUBLIC STREET WHERE VEHICLES WERE BEHIND AND IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A LETTER SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED FOR A RECALL OF THE ENGINES FOR 2011-2012 HYUNDAI SONATAS.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE FROM FL TO SC AT 75MPH WITH AN INFANT IN THE CAR WHEN WITH NO WARNING STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE, LUCKILY AN EXIT WAS RIGHT THERE WITH A GAS STATION AND WAS ABLE TO ROLL THE CAR IN. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TAKEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID MY MOTOR HAS SEIZED. I WAS STRANDED AT NIGHT TIME WITH AN INFANT IN GEORGIA, 2 HRS AWAY FROM HOME KNOWING NO ONE. I AM A SINGLE MOM THAT IS ALREADY STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY AND NOW I AM TOLD THAT I HAVE TO PAY $5,300 FOR A NEW ENGINE FOR A CAR THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD!!! I'VE BEEN READING A LOT OF THE SAME PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED WITH OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT YEAR VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

LOUD NOTICEABLE CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CLICKING NOISE APPEAR WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN ON UNEVEN ROADS, SPEED BUMPS OR ON CITY BUMPY ROADS. THE ALARMING CLICKING NOISE IS ALSO NOTICEABLE WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE SINCE WE'VE NOTICED IT, FEW MONTHS AGO TO THE POINT THAT THE CLICKING NOISE IS MUCH LOUDER NOW AND THERE IS A DELAY IN THE STEERING PROCESS. WE TOOK THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH NO LUCK ON IDENTIFYING THIS PROBLEM. A WEB SEARCH ON THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM YIELD MANY RESULTS AND COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER DRIVERS AND CAR OWNERS. I LEARNED ON THE SAFETY ISSUE THAT OUR CAR HAS AND ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB #14-ST-002-1) THAT WAS ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURE TO REMEDY THIS HAZARD. THE MANUFACTURE HAS ADVISED THE DEALERS TO REPLACE THE MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING (MDPS) COUPLING, THE ONE THAT WAS INITIALLY INSTALLED IS DETERIORATING. I'M SURPRISED THAT THERE ISN'T ANY RECALL ISSUED YET TO WARN DRIVERS FROM A CHANCE OF TOTAL DETERIORATION OF THE MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING (MDPS) COUPLING. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE ONLY WAY I LEARNED ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS BY SEARCHING ON THE WEB AND MATCHING THE STEERING FAILURE WITH OTHERS WHO HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS, THE DEALERS WE WENT TO COULDN'T PINPOINT THIS ISSUE.
I WAS BRINGING A RESCUE DOG TO HIS NEW OWNERS AND DRIVING ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY 495 SOUTH BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS( NOT A CONSTANCE 70 MPH) AND THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH BOARD LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND I HAD NO POWER IN THE GAS PETAL. THE CAR WENT TO A WESTFORD BP GARAGE IN WESTFORD MASSACHUSETTS THE PEOPLE WHO RESCUED THE DOG RESCUED US ALL FROM SIDE OF HIGHWAY AND HE REFERRED US TO THAT GARAGE.. WENT HOME AND WENT TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT TOWED THERE, WHICH IS CLOSER TO MY RESIDENT THEY DID A CHECK AND DETERMINED THAT I NEEDED AN NEW ENGINE. WE BOTH GOT ON THE PHONES WITH HYUNDAI AND HYUNDAI PAID FOR THE PARTS BUT I PAID 2150.00 FOR THE TOW AND THE SERVICE TO THE ENGINE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE MY CAR BACK. A WEEK LATER I HEAR ON THE NEWS THAT YOU ALL HAVE A RECALL ON THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WHICH I HAD REPLACED. I HAVE THE PAPER WORK OF THE WORK ORDER AND WORK COMPLETED AND RECEIPT OF PAYMENT.

ON AUGUST 7, 2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 PM, I WAS COMING BACK FROM RUNNING AN ERRAND WITH MY 16-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR WITH ME. I MADE A RIGHT-HAND TURN WHEN SUDDENLY, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. ADDITIONALLY, I LOST ALL POWER STEERING, ETC. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY, BUT ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED BY A PICKUP TRUCK THAT WAS FOLLOWING ME. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN. THE CAR SEEMED FINE AT THAT POINT, AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY SHORT DRIVE BACK TO MY HOME (APPROXIMATELY 1.25 MILES). WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME AND PLACED THE CAR IN PARK, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT WAS FLICKERING SLIGHTLY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE FOR THE NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING (8/8/15), I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL IN THE ENGINE, AND NOTED THAT IT WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE FILL LINE. I ADDED SOME SYNTHETIC OIL TO THE ENGINE, CHECKED THE LEVEL AND NOTED THAT IT WAS ADEQUATE. I STARTED THE ENGINE TO GO RUN SOME ERRANDS. THE CAR SEEMED FINE AT FIRST, BUT WHEN I WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES FROM MY HOME, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER AGAIN WHILE THE CAR WAS IDLING (AT A STOP LIGHT, ETC.) I CALLED MY HUSBAND RIGHT AWAY, WHO TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR HOME. I NOTED THAT THE ENGINE HAD SOMEWHAT OF A TICKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING IT. WHEN I WAS APPROXIMATELY A QUARTER-MILE FROM HOME, THE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING/BANGING VERY LOUDLY. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE CAR OFF, CALLED MY HUSBAND, AND CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC'S SHOP. ON TUESDAY, 8/11/15, MY MECHANIC REMOVED THE OIL PAN AND INFORMED ME THAT THE BEARINGS WERE FAILING, WHICH CAUSED METAL SHARDS TO CLOG THE OIL PUMP FILTER, AND HE ALSO NOTED THAT THE OIL PAN WAS FULL OF SHARDS. THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!!!
MY WIFE AND LITTLE KIDS WERE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING AND ALL THE LIGHTS LIGHT UP ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR TO A SIDE OF THE ROAD AVOIDING REAR-ENDED COLLISION. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEM UP UNTIL LAST SECOND. WHEN DRIVING IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST, I WENT OVER A BUMP AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO RATTLE (MAKE A RATTLING SOUND) AND SHAKING. I NOTICED FROM THEN ON THAT THE SOUND AND SHAKE WOULD START WHENEVER I WENT OVER A BUMP AND/OR DROVE BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 60-70MPH. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER AND AS SOON AS I STARTED DESCRIBING THE INCIDENT TO THE TECHNICIAN, HE IMMEDIATELY IDENTIFIED IT AS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COUPLING AND TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 AND SOME OF THE 2012 SONATAS. I CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND ASKED IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS (THERE ARE NONE). THEY ALSO TOLD ME TO SCHEDULE AN APPT WITH THE DEALER TO HAVE THE ISSUE INSPECTED IN ORDER TO SEE IF IT WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY. AFTER MY SECOND APPT. WITH THE DEALER - IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEEING COUPLING AND OF COURSE, THAT PART IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY . CONSIDERING THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, WHICH AFFECTS THOUSANDS OF HYUNDAI OWNERS, A RECALL NEEDS TO BE INITIATED.

WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN THE 2ND FROM RIGHT LANE IN HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY STOPPED AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. MY WIFE HAD DIFFICULTLY STEERING AND BRAKING TO MOVE TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE FROM THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE NOT HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT GREAT EXPENSE.
MY CHILDREN WERE DRIVING AND STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, MY SON PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE. IT SHUT OFF. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO START IT, NOTHING HAPPENED. NO LIGHTS EVER CAME ON ON THE DASHBOARD. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO POHANKA HYUNDAI IN CAPITAL HEIGHTS, MD AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS LOCKED UP AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER AND IT WOULD COST ME $5774,.88 TO HAVE IT REPLACED WITH A REBUILT ENGINE. I ALSO PURCHASED AN ADDITIONAL WARRANTY WHICH I THOUGHT WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JANUARY 2014.
WHEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE CAR RUNNING, IF I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH IT MAKES A CLANK NOISE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE IN PARK AND ALSO IN GEAR. I HAVE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT CONNECTIONS. HE ALSO SAID HE KNEW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME BODY STYLE AS MY CAR BUT A YEAR OLDER (2011). I FEEL THIS MAY BE PART OF THE SAME ISSUE THAT CAUSE THE RECALL FOR THE 2011 AND MAY HAVE BEEN OVER LOOKED.
THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHILE DRIVING AT 30-70 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. I HAVE TO REDUCE THE SPEED TO BE ABLE TO BRING THE STEERING WHEEL UNDER CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN COUPLER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. THE MANUFACTURER HAS ADVISED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL REPORTED ISSUES OF THIS SAME PROBLEM, SIMILAR TO THE 2011 MODEL RECALL.
HAD A MINOR FENDER BENDER AND THE CAR STALLED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT THE ENGINE CEASED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY FAULT . I HAD THE OIL CHANGED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE SO I KNOW THAT WAS NOT AN ISSUE. I WAS FORCED TO EITHER TRADE THE DEAD CAR IN OF PAY $6500. FOR A NEW ENGINE. THEN AFTER 1 MONTHS AND BEING FORCED TO BUY A NEW CAR I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HYUNDAI THAT MY CAR WAS BEING RECALLED FOR THE ENGINE CEASING. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED WITH YOU GUYS.

TOOK IT IN TO GLENDORA HYUNDAI, THEY TOPPED IT OFF...MY IMPRESSION OF THEM, NO BIG THING TO THEM. I TRIED TO TELL THEM SOMETHING, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE EMAILS OF MY CONCERNS TO GLENDORA HYUNDAI, ETC. ON JULY 1 THROUGH 9, 2015, I TOOK A ROAD TRIP IN THE SONATA TO VACATION IN DALLAS, TX. ON THE WAY BACK ON EARLY THURSDAY, JULY 9, THE ENGINE STARTED TO PING AND SPUTTER. PULLED OVER AND ASSESSED ENGINE FAILURE. I WAS 35 MILES AWAY FROM ODESSA, I FORTUNATE TO GET THERE SAFE. STRUGGLING AT 45 MPH OFF HIGHWAY 20, I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN AT 4:00AM INTO THE ODESSA HYUNDAI. I WAITED THAT FRIDAY MORNING UNTIL IT OPENED AT 7:00AM. ON FRIDAY, ODESSA HYUNDAI WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE ENGINE FAILURE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, STUCK IN ODESSA, I HAD TO GET HOTEL FOR A ONE NIGHT STAY AND A CAR RENTAL TO RETURN HOME WHILE THE REPAIRS ON MY SONATA WHERE COMPLETED. A MONTH LATER, ON AUGUST 7, I WAS ABLE TO RETURN TO ODESSA AND RETRIEVE MY CAR. I PAID OUT OF POCKET $2,957.10 TO GET MY CAR BACK. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS THAT MY CAR SUFFERED ENGINE FAILURE THROUGH THIS RECALL THAT CREATED HEART SHIP AND A DREADFUL ENDING TO A SEEMINGLY SUCCESSFUL VACATION. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I TRIED EARLY IN AUGUST/2012 TO AVOID ALL THIS. NEVERTHELESS, I HAVE CORRESPONDENCE ON MY BEHALF TO BACK UP MY CLAIM. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED IT AND SAID THEY FIGURED IT OUT THIS TIME (HOW CONVENIENT THAT THEY FINALLY DID RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED), SUGGESTED A BRAND NEW ENGINE. SAYS THERE WAS TONS OF SLUDGE AND METAL SHAVING IN THE OIL. THEY CITED 'OWNER NEGLECT'. WE PROVIDED THEM EVERY DOCUMENTATION OF MAINTENANCE AND CONSISTENT OIL CHANGES. DENIED HONORING OUR WARRANTY. DID RESEARCH AND FOUND 2011-2012 SONATAS HAVE A MANUFACTURING ENGINE DEFECT. PEOPLE ALL HAVE SAME ISSUES AND OUTCOMES WITH THEIR CARS. HYUNDAI WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT OUR PROOF OF MAINTENANCE AND CONTINUE TO DENY THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THEIR ENGINE.

I HAD MY CAR TOLLED TO HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT.THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY OIL PAN HAD SLUDGE AND METAL PARTICLES. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF LACK OF OIL CHANGES AND NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.I DISAGREED,BUT WAS FORCE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AT ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP.WITH THE RECENT HYUNDAI SONATA RECALLS, I FEEL THIS WAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I HAD. I AM HOPING THAT I CAN GET SOME ANSWERS AND A REFUND.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED OR DIAGNOSED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE SIDESWIPED A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES IN EITHER CRASH NOR WERE POLICE REPORTS FILED. THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION RECURRED SPORADICALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES.
