REAR TIRES ARE CUPPING EVERY 10,000 MILES. I HAD FRONT AND REAR ALIGNMENT DONE AND NO CHANGE. READ ONLINE IT IS A BIG ISSUE WITH THESE. MAYBE FAULTY MANUFACTURER STRUTS? SOUNDS LIKE TIRES ARE ABOUT TO FALL OFF THE REAR HUBS. VERY LOUD. AND KEEP HAVING TO BUY NEW TIRES. *TR
WALKED OUT OF STORE I HAD BEEN SHOPPING IN FOR OVER AN HOUR AND CAR WAS IN FLAMES. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR EXPLAINED IT AS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT STARTED AT THE MAIN ENGINE WIRE HARNESS AND MELTED THE TUBING/WIRING ALL THROUGH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DOWN NEAR PASSENGER HEADLIGHT AND THE MELTING WIRES/TUBING/RUBBER DRIPPED AND IGNITED ON A PILE OF LEAVES UNDERNEATH THE CAR IN THE PARKING SPACE. THE RESULTING FIRE AND ELECTRICAL BURN MELTED ALL RUBBER PLASTIC,EXTERNAL BELTS, WIRE HARNESS, FRONT BUMPER, INTAKE MANIFOLD AND ANY PLASTIC RUBBER,FLUID LIDS, EXTERIOR PARTS SURROUNDING OR ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE. *TR
MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA STEERING IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, IT IS PULLING TO THE LEFT AND REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTIONS. IT IS VERY UNSAFE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND DOES NOT WANT TO STAY IN ITS LANE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS, ONCE FOR AN ALIGNMENT AND ONCE FOR CHANGING THE SETTING FOR THE ELECTRIC STEERING. I INFORMED HYUNDAI OF AMERICA ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THE CAR SHOULD BE WORKING AS IT SHOULD AND THAT IS ALL THEY CAN DO. *TR
TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY ON DRIVERS SIDE BROKE OFF FROM THE CAR, IT WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN WE NOTICED IT. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT , NO DAMAGE OR EVIDENCE OF SOMEONE HITTING IT. LOOKS LIKE THE PLASTIC PART OF THE LIGHT HOLDING IT TO THE BOLTS JUST BROKE OFF. DEALER SAID THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE AT ALL, OF THIS HAPPENING.
WHILE BACKING UP OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A CRASH AND REALIZED THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY REAR BUMPER COVER FELL OFF. THIS WAS COMPLETELY RANDOM, AS I HAVE NEVER BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND AND THERE WERE NO DENTS, SCRATCHES, CRACKS OR OTHER VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER COVER WHEN IT FELL OFF. THE BUMPER AND BUMPER COVER SEEMED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION, BUT THE PLASTIC CLIPS HOLDING THE BUMPER COVER TO MY BUMPER APPEARED SEVERELY DEGRADED AND DAMAGED. WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT, THE MAN WHO TOWED MY TRUCK BROKE OFF THE REMAINING CLIPS THAT WERE ATTACHED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF MY BUMPER. THE NEXT DAY, I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE, AND MY BUMPER AND BUMPER COVER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I WAS SHOCKED, CONSIDERING THE BUMPER FELL OFF, AND BELIEVE THERE IS NO REASON WHY I SHOULD SPEND MONEY ON A COMPLETELY NEW BUMPER AND BUMPER COVER IF JUST THE CLIPS WERE BROKEN. THE SERVICE MANAGER SIMPLY TOLD ME THE CLIPS WERE DAMAGED AND THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. HE DID NOT HAVE AN ANSWER FOR WHEN I ASKED HOW THE CLIPS COULD POSSIBLY BECOME DAMAGED TO THE POINT OF BREAKING, WHEN THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER COVER. HE BROUGHT UP THE POSSIBILITY THAT I HAD BEEN HIT IN A PARKING LOT AND DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT. IN A WORST CASE SCENARIO, IF THIS WAS THE CASE, I WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THAT WOULD LEAD TO AN ENTIRE BUMPER FALLING OFF A VEHICLE. LITTLE FENDER BENDERS AND PARKING LOT ACCIDENTS ARE COMMON, BUMPERS FALLING OFF A CAR ARE NOT. HAVING A BACKGROUND IN POLYMER SCIENCE, I DO NOT BELIEVE THE GRADE OF PLASTIC USED TO MANUFACTURE THE CLIPS IS AN APPROPRIATE CHOICE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE, AS I AM SURE MY VEHICLE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN JUST IN THE DRIVEWAY, BUT IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY, IT COULD HAVE EASILY FLOWN INTO A DRIVER'S WINDSHIELD CAUSING A FATALITY. *TR
2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ENGINE REVVED VERY HIGH WHEN STARTED. *SMD THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, THE ENGINE REVVED TO 4000 RPM. AGAIN, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.
LOW PRESSURE TIRE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND REMAINS ON EVEN THOUGH TIRE PRESSURE IS CHECKED AND IS NORMAL. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. WHENEVER THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW 40 DEGREE F THE WARNING WILL COME ON AND REMAIN ON. FALSE WARNING WILL NOT TELL TRUTH ABOUT A LOW TIRE. *TR
STARTING ON 10/16/2013 WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. RPMS WERE AT 3K AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE EVEN WHEN PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IN ANOTHER INCIDENT ON 10/17, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, RPMS SPIKED AT 6.5K AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT. ON 10/18 I ATTEMPTED AND SUCCEEDED IN REPLICATING BOTH BEHAVIORS. WHEN EXPERIENCING THE SPIKING RPMS WITHOUT SHIFTING CONDITION, I MANUALLY SHIFTED THE VEHICLE WITH THE PADDLE SHIFTER TO GET IT TO UP SHIFT. WHEN THE CAR BEGAN SHIFTING AGAIN IN ON IT'S OWN, IT THEN DOWNSHIFTED AND AN ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE WAS MET WITH NO RESPONSE EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THESE BEHAVIORS CREATE DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS THAT PREVENT THE DRIVER FROM MOVING THE CAR THROUGH AN INTERSECTION OR ACCELERATING TO GET TO SPEED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. I AM TAKING THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT IT TODAY. *TR
FIRST LET ME TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE, THE SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] TELLING ME THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, REPLACED THE A/C UNIT. BLUE TOOTH FUSES HAVE BLOWN OUT SEVERAL TIMES NO RADIO, THEY REPLACED THE FUSES, THEN REPLACED THE BATTERY ... THERE IS A ELECTRICAL SHORT SOME WHERE .. THE DATE ABOVE IN OCTOBER I WAS SO MAD I WAS TRAVELING ON A INTER STATE HIGHWAY IN THE FAST LANE, THEN MY CAR LOST POWER,, AT 67 MPH NO BRAKES NO NOTHING THANKS GOD.. I HAD TO WAIT TO POWER DOWN... I WAITED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES SHAKING ... I KEPT TRYING TO START THE CAR WITH THE PUSH BUTTON START NOTHING HAPPENED I THEN CALLED HYUNDAI ROAD SERVICE ... AFTER WAITING ... FINALLY THE CAR STARTED .. I HAD POWER BUT NO RADIO ,,, I DROVE OFF THE INTER STATE AND IT WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM THE CAR DEALERSHIP.. I WAS SO MAD ALSO MY BLUE TOOTH AND ONE LIGHT BURNED OUT.. AFTER TALKING TO THE SERVICE MGR.. HE TOLD ME TO WAIT IN WHICH I DID...2 HOURS LATER A SERVICE GUY CAME TO TALK TO ME AND SAID HE COULD NOT FIND NOTHING WRONG AGAIN.. EXCEPT THAT HE WOULD REPLACE THE LIGHT BULB... AFTER THAT I ASKED THE SALES REP TO PUT ME INTO ANOTHER CAR.. THEY SAID OK BUT FOR 50.00 MORE A MONTH AND A LOSS OF 2 YEARS PAYING FOR THE CAR ... I THEN WENT TO THE SAME OWNER DEALERSHIP AND THEY WORKED WITH ME FOR 2 DAYS I GOT A NEW CAR 20.00 MORE A MONTH AND A LOSS OF 2 YEARS IN PAYMENTS... PLEASE NOTE THAT A NEW SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID HE WORKED AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND TOLD ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE STARTER SWITCH WAS THE PROBLEM.. AFTER SEEING THE GM RECALL I GUESS ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
ON OR ABOUT OCTOBER 1, 2103, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AS I STARTED THE CAR AND BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE. I CHECKED AND RECHECKED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS OFF AND THE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. EVERY OTHER TIME OR SO, WHEN WE USED THE CAR, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND WE ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECKED TO ENSURE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS OFF. ON OCTOBER 7, 2103, WE WENT TO THE JENKINS HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR THE COMPUTER. AS WE LEFT THE PLACE, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE 20 MILE TRIP HOME. THE HYUNDAI WARRANTY STATES THAT WE SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BRAKES COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. IT IS EITHER A BRAKE PROBLEM OR A COMPUTER AND I WOULD PREFER TO HAVE IT FIXED BEFORE IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. *TR
ON 09/22/13, I LEFT FOR A 75 MILE TRIP. WHEN I FIRST STARTED MY CAR THAT MORNING, I NOTICED IT WAS MOVING SLUGGISHLY, BUT THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO OUR OVERNIGHT CHILLY TEMPERATURES. I DROVE THE SHORT DISTANCE TO THE INTERSTATE. AS I ATTEMPTED TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE, I HAD THE MOST FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO PREPARE TO MERGE AND DISCOVERED THAT I HAD PRACTICALLY NO ACCELERATION! MY CAR GOT TO BETWEEN 5000 AND 6000 RPMS BEFORE IT SHIFTED OUT OF FIRST GEAR! AT THAT POINT, I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHILE TRYING TO MERGE ONTO AN INTERSTATE, IN FRONT OF A SEMI THAT WOULD NOT GET OVER FOR ME TO MERGE. I LITERALLY HAD MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR, AS THE CAR AGAIN HIT BETWEEN 5000 AND 6000 RPMS TO SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR! I WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY GET MY CAR TO 65 AND TURN ON THE CRUISE CONTROL . I DOUBLE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE I WAS IN DRIVE (RATHER THAN NEUTRAL OR MANUAL--NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS ON). ON OCCASION DURING THAT DRIVE, I TURNED OFF THE CRUISE AND HIT THE ACCELERATOR TO SEE IF WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED WAS A FLUKE'IT WAS NOT. MY ACCELERATOR WAS LITERALLY MASHED TO THE FLOOR AS MY CAR'S SPEED SLOWLY LURCHED HIGHER, WHILE MY RPMS RAISED ABOVE 5000 BEFORE SHIFTING TO THE NEXT GEAR. ONCE I RETURNED HOME, I TURNED OFF MY CAR FOR A FEW MINUTES, BEFORE RESTARTING THE VEHICLE TO TEST IT. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WAS GONE (ALTHOUGH I QUESTION WHETHER MY TURBO IS STILL WORKING EFFECTIVELY, AS IT SEEMS LESS RESPONSIVE). TODAY, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE RECENT SONATA RECALL, AND I ALSO REQUESTED THEY EXAMINE MY TRANSMISSION, DESCRIBING THE ABOVE INCIDENT TO THEM. I NOTED THAT OTHER DRIVERS MENTIONED THAT A WASTE GATE' ISSUE APPEARED TO BE CAUSING THE SHIFTING PROBLEMS. THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTED I SHIFTED INTO MANUAL ACCIDENTALLY. *TR
I WAS IN MY PARKING SPACE AND HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO GET OUT OF THE SPACE. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR IN REVERSE, IT TOOK OFF AT AN INCREDIBLE SPEED, DID A SEMI-CIRCLE, AND HIT ANOTHER CAR. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WHO WAS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE EVENT OR CHECK OUT THE CAR. I PLAN ON CONTACTING HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THIS INFORMATION.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. WEST BROAD HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 8903 W BROAD ST, RICHMOND, VA 23294, (804) 755-7777) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. *TR
I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE WHERE I ALERTED THE SERVICE REP TO AN ISSUE WITH MY DASHBOARD. FOR OVER A YEAR I HAD NOTICED AN AREA OF 'SLICKNESS" ON MY DASH .AS THE SUMMER WENT ON, THIS AREA NOW APPEARS TO BE MELTING! I WAS TOLD THAT THE AREA WAS THERE BASED ON :SOMETHING " THAT I HAD DONE & HAD SUBSEQUENTLY TRIED TO FIX IT! NEEDLESS TO SAY , I WAS FIT TO BE TIED!! HOW DO YOU ACCUSE SOMEONE OF SOMETHING WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE THE FACTS? I WAS TOLD BY NUMEROUS SERVICE PEOPLE AS WELL AS MANAGEMENT THAT THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS NEVER SEEN BEFORE! DOES NOT ONE NEED TO CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER AS OPPOSED TO IT IS YOUR PROBLEM -NOT OURS? IT IS CLEARLY A DEFECT & I WANT THE DASHBOARD REPLACED!! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR IN PARK, KEY IN IGNITION-MOTORIDLING--WIFE AND I AWAITING TO BOARD FERRY CAR SUDDENLY REVVED VERY HIGH WITH TACH OVER 5--CHECKED CAR WAS IN PARK NO OBSTRUCTION (MAT ETC..) OR FOOT TOUCHING GAS PEDAL--KILLED IGNITION TO STOP UNCONTROLLED REVVING OF ENGINE. FOUR WITNESSES TI INCIDENT--TWO IN CAR, TWO STANDING NEXT TO VEHICLE. CALLED DEALER IMMED AND MADE APPOINTMENT TO HAVE CAR CHECKED---FIRST UNCONTROLLED INCIDENT ON CRUISE CONTROL APRIL OF 2013, SECOND SUDDEN INCREASE AUGUST 5TH 2013 AGAIN ON CRUISE CONTROL--DEALER FOUND BRAKE SWITCH PROBLEM AFTER 8-05-13 SUDDEN SURGE BUT CLAIMS "CAN"T REPLICATE ADDITIONAL SURGES.. CRUISE CONTROL USED ON WAY TO FERRY. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER 8-26-13 AGAIN THEY CAN'T REPLICATE. OCCURS WHEN IN CRUISE CONTROL MORE THAN 20-30 MIN. OR MORE--PERHAPS WIRING OR MODULES HEATING UP--DEALER NO HELP!!!!!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE SUNROOF OF MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. NO VEHICLES WERE WITHIN 300 FEET AHEAD OF ME AND I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE OF THE SIX LANE DIVIDED INTERSTATE. SKIES WERE OVERCAST BUT NO HAIL OR LIGHTNING. I WAS NOT NEAR ANY OVERPASSES, AND I DID NOT WITNESS ANY FLYING FOREIGN OBJECTS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP CLAIM TO HAVE FOUND AN "IMPACT SITE" ON THE FRONT EDGE OF THE SUNROOF, BUT THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER REPORTED THAT IT WAS INCONCLUSIVE. THE EXPLOSION LEFT A BASKETBALL SIZED HOLE IN THE SUNROOF GLASS ABOVE THE DRIVER SIDE. NO INJURIES WERE EXPERIENCED. THE SUNSHADE WAS CLOSED AT THAT TIME. *TR
FIRST TIME NOTICED THAT THE OIL PAN IS LEAKING AT 15,042 MILES. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY RESEALED IT UNDER WARRANTY. STARTED LEAKING AGAIN AT 22,566 MILES AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE OIL PAN AND RESEALED IT AGAIN UNDER THE WARRANTY. I JUST NOTICED IT THAT IT'S LEAKING AGAIN AT 30,660 MILES. I AM REALLY CONCERNED THAT THIS BRAND NEW CAR IS LEAKING OIL LIKE THIS. ALSO, I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THE FIX IS NOT ADDRESSING THE UNDERLYING ISSUE WHICH MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE. I THINK HYUNDAI NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUE CLOSELY AND MUST COME UP WITH A PERMANENT SOLID FIX. I HAVE BEEN READING ON THE HYUNDAI SONATA FORUM THAT MANY ARE FACING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM SURPRISE THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS YET. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST HYUNDAI. *TR
HAD MY SONATA FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND A HALF. I THOUGHT I SMELLED GAS IN THE CAR, BUT FIGURED I MUST HAVE SPILLED GAS ON MY SPORT COAT THE LAST TIME I WORE IT. STARTING THE CAR, I HAD TO HOLD THE START ENGINE BUTTON DOWN FOR AN EXTRA SECOND WHICH WAS WEIRD, BUT I FIGURED MAYBE I WAS LOOKING INTO THINGS. I HAD MY WINDOWS DOWN SINCE I THOUGHT I SMELLED GAS. AFTER DRIVING FOR A BIT MY CAR DIED SUDDENLY, AS I WAS PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I STARTED TO SMELL SMOKE. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO GET MY SON FROM HIS CAR SEAT AND THEN I SAW THAT THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 77 NORTH BOUND IN NORTH CAROLINA I NOTICED THE PASSENGER SAFETY SEAT BELT LIGHT WAS FLICKERING BUT THERE WAS NO ONE OR NOTHING ON THE SEAT TO WARRANT THE LIGHT TURNING ON. SO I REACHED OVER AND SNAPPED THE SEAT BELT IN AND THE LIGHT TURNED OFF. AS A RESULT OF THE WANDERING STEERING ISSUE, I HAVE CONCLUDED MY 2012, HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED 2.0T IS UNSAFE. UP UNTIL THIS REPORT, I HAVE TOLERATED THE STEERING. ON JUNE 14, 2013, I NEARLY CROSSED OVER THE CENTER OF A TWO-LANE HIGHWAY NEARLY HITTING AN 18-WHEEL SEMI TRUCK HEAD ON. THE STEERING IS NOT SAFE. DUE TO THE VERY LIGHT NATURE OF THE STEERING AND LACK OF PROGRESSION JUST OFF CENTER, THERE IS TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE CENTER OF THIS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THIS PLAY RESULTS IN A SLIGHT DELAY IN RESPONSE TO SMALL STEERING INPUTS. ALONG WITH A POOR FACTORY SUSPENSION SETUP THAT IS TOO STIFF, THE CAR EASILY BEGINS TO WANDER ON EVEN THE SMOOTHEST OF ROADS. AN EXAMPLE IS NOTED. CAR MOVES RIGHT. I RESPOND WITH LEFT INPUT. CAR MOVES LEFT. HOWEVER, DELAY IN STEERING RESPONSE TO CENTER CAR RESULTS IN OVERSHOOTING CENTER POSITION OF THE LANE. THEN HAVE TO PROVIDE RIGHT STEERING INPUT, AGAIN WITH DELAY IN RESPONSE TO INPUT. AS A RESULT, THE CAR BECOMES STUCK IN A LEFT TO RIGHT OSCILLATION. EVEN IF I LIGHTEN UP ON THE INPUTS, I CANNOT ELIMINATE THE OSCILLATION BECAUSE NO ROAD IS PERFECTLY FLAT. ADD IN CROSSWINDS, IT ONLY GETS WORSE. I AM AWARE OF NUMEROUS REPORTS CONCERNING THE WANDERING STEERING OF THE HYUNDAI SONATA. I AM ALSO AWARE OF SOME OWNERS HAVING THE STEERING MODE CHANGED TO SPORT, BUT I AM NOT CONVINCED THIS WILL HELP MUCH IF I CHOOSE TO HAVE THIS DONE. THE POOR SUSPENSION (TOO MUCH DAMPING) ALONG WITH THE LOW PROFILE TIRES WILL STILL BE THERE, AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY CAN GET THE STEERING TO WORK WELL WITH THE SUSPENSION. OVERALL, THE LIGHT, SLOW TO RESPOND STEERING AND A TOO STIFF SUSPENSION ARE NOT A GOOD MATCH FOR EACH OTHER UNDER DAILY DRIVING. ANOTHER WEEK GOES BY AND THEY "FOUND" A FAULTY SRS CONTROL MODULE (AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE) WHICH THEY REMOVED AND REPLACED. NO ISSUES UNTIL OCT 7TH WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH ALL LIGHTS LIT AGAIN ON DASH AND SPEEDOMETER AND RPM'S IMMEDIATELY WENT TO ZERO EVEN THOUGH I WAS STILL MOVING. HAD TO BE TOWED AGAIN TO DEALERSHIP. THEY "FOUND" A GROUND WIRE CORRODED AT LEFT FRONT STRUT TOWER. CLEANED THE CONNECTION AND REINSTALLED...DID NOT REPLACE. WENT TO PICKUP CAR AFTER NUMEROUS TEST DRIVES BY DEALERSHIP ON OCT 18TH AND AGAIN UPON STARTING ALL DASH LIGHTS LIT AND COULD NOT GET OUT OF PARK. VEHICLE STILL AT DEALERSHIP. ON MORE THAN A DOZEN OCCASIONS SINCE PURCHASE, THE VEHICLE HAS NEGLECTED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED NEARLY CAUSING ME TO BE HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE HAS SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED WHEN THE DRIVER WAS BARELY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL; ALMOST CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY TWO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS FOR THE ISSUES; OF WHICH THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLICATED. BOTH DEALERSHIPS STATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO MAKE THE ISSUES GO AWAY.

WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND SLOWING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS FAILED. I LOST THE POWER STEERING, BRAKING AND GAS. ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE CONSOLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO ALLOW THE CAR TO COME TO A STOP ON ITS OWN - IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, OR IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN CROSSING THE ROAD, THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH, MUCH WORSE. ONCE THE CAR STOPPED, I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE LIGHTS STAYED ON. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN BACK ON AND IT TURNED RIGHT BACK ON AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS IN SERVICE FOR 5 DAYS, AND THEY CLAIM TO BE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING AND SQUEAKING NOISE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO A TRUCK STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE A BUNCH OF METAL SHAVINGS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE OIL AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
BOUGHT CAR AS NEW WITH 6172 MILES, CAR HAS CONSISTENT PULL TO RIGHT, WHEN TRYING TO MAKE CORRECTION, CAR STARTS TO PULL HARDER. DROVE CAR ON SNOWY ROADS AND WAS UNABLE TO KEEP CAR IN LANE AT A SAFE DRIVING SPEED WITH TRAFFIC, CAUSING ME TO SLOW AND BECAME A HAZARD ON ROADWAY. HAVE TAKEN TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS 4 TIMES BEING TOLD "THAT THIS A NORMAL CONDITION AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG". HAVE TAKEN TO THIRD PARTY REPAIR SHOP, WHO HAS DOCUMENTED A PULLING PROBLEM, BUT UNABLE TO REPAIR DUE TO WHAT THEY DIAGNOSE AS A COMPUTER POWER ASSIST PROBLEM. DRIVE CAR ONLY ON DRY ROADS AND NOT BEING USED FOR DAILY USE DUE TO THIS UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS STEERING CONDITION. *TR
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE MOST RECENT, 2/4/13, I REQUIRED QUICK ACCELERATION TO AVOID A COLLISION. A SUDDEN THRUST OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SHOULD RESULT IN RAPID ACCELERATION, INSTEAD THE CAR HESITATES, DE-ACCELERATES, PRESUMABLY WHILE IT TRIES TO FIND A SOLUTION (BATTERY VS GAS), STALLS, THEN SLOWLY ACCELERATES. THIS DELAY IS DANGEROUS AND WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. SPECIFICALLY, I APPROACHED A BUSY INTERSECTION WHERE THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL WAS NOT WORKING. DRIVERS TREATED THE INTERSECTION AS A FOUR WAY STOP, AS THEY SHOULD, WHEN IT WAS MY OPPORTUNITY TO TURN LEFT, I EXECUTED MY TURN NORMALLY, BUT THEN NOTICED A TRUCK CREST THE HILL TO MY LEFT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ABOUT BLOCK AWAY, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO FINISH MY TURN AND GET OUT OF THE WAY. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT POWERED DOWN, SAT THERE FOR A SECOND, THEN ACCELERATED SLOWLY. THE TRUCK SWERVED AND SLAMMED ON ITS BREAKS TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH ME. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 30+ YEARS, I AM A SAFE, DEFENSIVE DRIVER. I HAVE ALSO OWNED ANOTHER HYBRID CAR (2007 TOYOTA CAMRY) WHERE THIS PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I ACQUIRED THE VEHICLE AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI CORPORATE OFFICE. ADDITIONALLY, TWO OTHER ISSUES I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE ARE; I HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR FOR 1,883 AND RECORDED MY MILEAGE AND GAS PURCHASES USING THE TOOLS FROM FUELECONOMY.GOV AND HAVE REALIZED AN OVERALL MPG OF 23.73. FOR A CAR THAT IS SUPPOSED TO ACHIEVE BETWEEN 34 AND 39 MPG, IT MISSES THE MARK. THE HYBRID BATTERY WILL NOT CHARGE ABOVE 50%. OCCASIONALLY, DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING, THE HYBRID BATTERY WILL CHARGE ABOVE 50%, BUT QUICKLY DEPLETES THE BATTERY TO BELOW 50% WITHIN A FEW MILES. I WONDER IF THIS AFFECTS THE CARS LACK OF ELECTRIC RESERVES WHEN EVASIVE DRIVING MEASURES ARE REQUIRED. HYUNDAI SERVICE INDICATED THE BATTERY CHARGE LEVELS ARE NORMAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF BY THE PUSH TO START BUTTON AND DID NOT REALIZE THAT HE NEVER PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL DOWN A HILL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RE ENTER THE VEHICLE AND MANAGED TO STOP IT WITHOUT CRASHING INTO ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2.0T ON OCT 26 2012, EVER SINCE I BOUGHT IT, I'VE REALIZED THAT THE MPG THAT IT GIVES ME IS 17 NO MATTER IF I'M IN CITY OR HIGHWAY, WHILE MINIMAL ESTIMATES ARE 23 IN THE CITY. I'VE LOOKED ON HYUNDAI FORUMS AND IT SEEMS LIKE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, A LOUD, ABNORMAL BANG WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN LOST BRAKING AND STEERING ABILITIES AS THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOUD BANG WAS A RESULT OF EITHER A TIRE BLOWING OR A DEFECTIVE STRUT THAT CAUSED THE TIRE BLOW. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
