THE SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME IS INAUDIBLE TO ME. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VOLUME IS SO LOW. I DO NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH MY SECOND CAR (FORD) NOR ANY OF THE OTHER CARS I HAVE EVER OWNED (OVER 5) OVER THE YEARS SINCE CHIMES WERE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE CLAIMING THEY ARE UNABLE TO ALTER THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT A DIFFERENT DEALER (WHICH I DID). THE TWO OTHER DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS SAID THE SAME THING AND WERE UNABLE NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE VOLUME IS ADMITTEDLY LOW, THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. I WAS DRIVING EAST BOUND HIGHWAY 495 TO WORK ON 11/13/14 AND MY CAR SHAKEN AND I FOUND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I WAS SO WORRY TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TRY TO PULL OVER NEAREST EXIT. AND I WAS ABLE TO FIND A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP NEAR BY. I'VE CALLED HYUNDAI BLUELINK TO CHECK MY CAR ISSUE AND THEY'VE TOLD ME POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUE. ADVANTAGE HYUNDAI TOOK MY CAR FOR SERVICE AND I HAD TO CALL TAXI TO GO TO WORK AND I WAS LATE FOR MY WORK WITH MY CO-WORKER. WE BOTH LATE FOR WORK AND I HAD TO GO BACK TO DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP MY CAR. BASED ON WHAT THEY'VE TOLD ME THAT SPIDER WEB CAUSING THE ISSUE WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I'VE LOST TIME AND EXTRA MONEY FOR TAXI MONEY. AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER, I WAS DRIVING BACK TO HOME FROM WORK AND MY CAR SHAKEN AGAIN AND I SAW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MY DASH BOARD AGAIN!!. I WAS SO TERRIFIED TO DRIVE AND PULL OVER NEAREST EXIT AND DRIVE SLOW TO MY HOME. IT WAS AROUND 7PM AND DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE CENTER WHERE I LEASED THIS CAR ON JAN OF 2014. SAME INCIDENT HAPPEN 2 TIMES IN A MONTH AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR. ALSO DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER ADVISE ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE PART FOR THIS CAR AND I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MID NEXT WEEK. DEALERSHIP MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WILL BE NO LOANER CAR OR RENTAL CAR THEY CAN PROVIDE AND JUST TOLD ME TO WAIT. I'VE REQUEST DEALER TO EXCHANGE TO DIFFERENT CAR DUE TO SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY CAN'T DO THAT AND TELLING ME TO CONTACT TO BUY BACK MY CAR FROM DEALERSHIP, OTHERWISE I HAVE TO DRIVE THE SAME CAR. MAIN POINT IS I DON'T FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I DO NOT WANT PUT MYSELF RISKY SITUATION. WHAT SHOULD I DO? *TR
SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL JERK IN EITHER ABOUT 2 INCHES. IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO FORCE YOU INTO THE OTHER LANE BUT ENOUGH TO SCARE YOU. WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT IT, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO BE HARD TO TURN LIKE IT IS LOCKED. IF I TURN THE WHEEL BACK THE OTHER WAY THE ATTEMPT TO STEER NORMALLY, THE WHEEL IS LOOSE AND NORMAL. SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR AS THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 35 TO 70 PH. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY "TEST DRIVE IT BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE IT". I WAS TOLD THEY COULD KEEP IT FOR A WEEK AND LET SOMEONE DRIVE IT AROUND AND THEY WOULD TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT. IN THE MEANTIME, I WOULD BE WITHOUT A CAR. ALSO, THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL BUZZING NOISE COMING OUT FROM UNDER MY DASHBOARD BEHIND THE SPEEDOMETER. I HAVE ACTUALLY CALLED A COUPLE DIFFERENT DEALERS AND LET THEM LISTEN TO IT BUT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IT IS. MY LOCAL DEALER WANT S TO AGAIN KEEP MY CAR FOR A WEEK TO INVESTIGATE. I TOOK IT TO THEM WHILE IT WAS MAKING THE NOISE AND THE COMPUTER SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THIS SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM ACCORDING TO MY EXPERIMENTATION WITH THE NOISE AND CHANGING THE SETTINGS ON THE CLIMATE CONTROL. BOTH ISSUES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO MY DEALER SINCE ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER FOR DOCUMENTATION, NO ONE ACTUALLY PUT MY COMPLAINTS IN THE SYSTEM.
TRUNK OPENS SPONTANEOUSLY. *TR
ON OCTOBER 25, ME AND MY WIFE WERE TRAVELING ON A LOCAL STREET AND WERE BLINDSIDED BY A CAR. THE CAR STRUCK US ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE FORCE OF THAT HIT CAUSED US TO PLOW INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER WALL HEAD ON. AT THIS TIME, THE FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. HOWEVER MY WIFE'S AIRBAG, THE PASSENGER SIDE, EXPLODED IMMEDIATELY CAUSING VISIBLE BURNS TO MY WIFE'S NECK AND CHEST. UPON EMERGENCY ROOM EXAMS AND FOLLOW-UP DOCTOR EVALUATIONS, THE DIAGNOSES WAS THAT MY WIFE SUSTAINED SECOND-DEGREE CHEMICAL BURNS TO HER NECK AND CHEST, WHICH WILL REQUIRE SKIN GRAFTS FROM A PLASTIC SURGEON. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 5PM ON OCTOBER 10TH 2014 I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT IN HARRISBURG, NC. WHEN THE CAR REACHED 15 MPH IT DID NOT SHIFT (THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH SHIFTRONIC MANUAL CONTROLS) AND I HAD TO SHIFT THE CAR MANUALLY INTO SECOND GEAR AND EACH SUCCESSIVE GEAR. AFTER DOING SO I NOTICED THE CAR HAD TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WITH NO INCIDENT AND RESTART THE CAR. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I NOTICED CLICKING UNDER THE HOOD AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER. AFTER THEIR EXAMINATION THEY DETERMINED THE ENGINE HAD A DEFECT. THEY ARE REPLACING THE ENGINE. *TR
100 % BRAKE FAILURE. 40 MPH,HEAVY TRAFFIC, CLEAR SKY, DRY PAVEMENT AND APPROACHING RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL, PEDAL FLUTTERED AS IF ANTI LOCKING BRAKE ACTIVITY WAS BE ACTIVATED. CAR CONTINUED TO FREE WHEEL FORWARD, I STEPPED HARDER ON BRAKE PEDAL AND PEDAL BEGAN PUSHING BACK TO ME. THE HARDER I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE MORE IT PUSHED BACK - THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION. THE CAR HAD TO BE STOPPED WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AS THE CAR CAME TO A STOP A YELLOW CAUTION/MALFUNCTION SYMBOL APPEARED IN THE DASH CONSOLE FOR AN INSTANT THEN DISAPPEARED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE WHAT THE SYMBOL WAS. *TR
1) THE MILES PER GALLON READING IS UNPREDICTABLE ITS ADVERTISED TO GIVE AROUND 27 COMBINED BUT I HAVE NEVER REACHED THAT 27 MPG, THOUGH I DRIVE IN LOW RPM ) THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN FOR LONG DISTANCE EVEN AFTER RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL RESULTING IN ABRUPT BRAKING IN LIEU OF GRADUAL BRAKING IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC 2) THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT MALFUNCTIONED AT AROUND 15,000 MILES 3) THE CAR HAS A LEAK FROM 1000 MILES ONWARDS BUT THE SERVICE CENTER REFUSES TO HELP, I CALLED HYUNDAI THEY ADVISE ME TO CALL THE SERVICE CENTER, I FEEL AS IF AFTER A VALUABLE INVESTMENT THERE'S NO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OR CUSTOMER REDRESSED PROCESS. 4) LACK OF CORPORATE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT CAN ANSWER WARRANTY RELATED QUESTIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A NOSE BLEED, A LOSS OF HEARING, AND HEADACHES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ARAPAHOE HYUNDAI (9899 E ARAPAHOE RD, CENTENNIAL, CO 80112) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT HAD A LEAK. THE AIR CONDITIONER FUEL VALVE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000. *BF AIR CONDITION FAILED AT 2,997 MILES AND 9,426 MILES TRANSMISSION PLUS FAILED AND LEAKED AT 5,895 STEERING COUPLED FAILED AT 18,312 MILES SEAT BELT ANCHORAGE REPLACED AT 2,997 MILES UPDATED 9/7/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE, IT BEGAN TO ROLL AWAY INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A WOODEN POST AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE HE SUSTAINED A CRACKED VERTEBRAE AND TAIL BONE, BROKEN HIP AND BRUISED KNEE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT S THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V434000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500.
I NOTICED THAT MY BLINKERS WERE WORKING BUT I COULD NOT HEAR THEM AND MY SEAT BELT DID THE SAME. I WENT TO THE MORGAN HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MAKING CHIME SOUNDS CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT VOLUME COMING FROM CHIME IN BCM.THEY ORDERED THE MODULE TO CORRECT AND REPLACED IT A FEW DAYS LATER. WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP I COULD NOT TELL ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE CHIME SOUND. SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE MY HEARING AND SCHEDULED AN APOINTMENT WITH AND EAR DOCTOR. I EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING. HE TESTED ME AND SAID THAT I DID HAVE SOME DIFFICULTY IN HEARING HIGH PITCH SOUNDS BUT THAT IT WAS NOT BAD ENOUGH TO HAVE HEARING AIDS. HE WENT OUT TO MY CAR AND LISTENED TO THE CAR CHIME AND SAID THAT HE HAD GOOD HEARING FOR HIS AGE AND HE WAS ALSO HAVING DIFFFICULTY HEARING IT. SO I LEFT HIS OFFICE AND WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS MET BY A VERY YOUNG LADY AND SHE SAID THAT SHE COULD HEAR IT BUT IT WAS NOT VERY LOUD. SHE THEN GOT AN ELDERLY MAN THAT WORKED THERE TO LISTED AND HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DID. THEN WE GOT A MIDDLE AGE WOMAN SALES PERSON TO LISTEN AND SHE HAD DIFFICULTY ALSO. THEN THEY GOT THE KEYS FOR FOUR 2014 SONATAS AND TRIED THEM ALL OF THEM FAILED THE TEST. SO AS A LAST RESORT WE GOT THE KEYS ON A 2015 SONATA AND WE COULD HEAR IT FINE. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI TO SEE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL BE RECALLED OR IF THEY HAVE HAD ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. IT CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I AM USE TO HEARING THE CHIME WHEN I PUT MY KEYS IN MY CAR AND IF FIXED MAY CAUSE ME FROM HAVING AN ACCIDENT WITH OUT MY SEAT BELT ON. I OWN A NEW 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA, AND MY MAIN CONCERN FROM WHAT I RECENTLY HAVE RESEARCHED IS THAT SOME OF THESE VEHICLES ARE PRONE TO MAJOR MOTOR AND POWER TRAIN PROBLEMS, THAT CAN LEAD TO FATALITIES. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE NHTSA HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THESE PROBLEMS, AND THERE IS A CURRENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PENDING. WHAT I'D LIKE TO ASK IS, WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED BY THE AGENCY, GIVEN THE GRAVE NATURE THAT ONE OF THESE MOTORS COULD POTENTIALLY SEIZE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED AND CAN VERY WELL LEAD TO FATALITIES. A PERSONAL NOTE: WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. IN AUGUST 2014, IT STALLED ONCE, WHILE DRIVING AT 5-10 MILES MPH, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED EVER SINCE.
AS RPTD TO HYUNDAI MOTOR AMER. (HMA) VIA CUST. CARE LINE & PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION RPT. VEHICLE: 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2.0T SEDAN DETAILS OF INCIDENT: INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE IN PARKING LOT. PARKING SPOT: PERPENDICULAR PARKING (PARK BETWEEN PAINTED LINES) CURB, SHRUBBERY AND WALL IN FRONT OF SPOT (IN THAT ORDER). APPROACHED PARKING SPOT, TOWARD FRONT OF PARKING SPOT APPLIED BRAKE. UPON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD --- FELT LIKE IT WAS FLYING --- WENT FORWARD AND OVER THE CURB AND STOPPED IN THE SHRUBBERY BEFORE THE WALL (DID NOT HIT THE WALL). SEAT BELT PREVENTED INJURY (HEAD MOVEMENT ONLY). FYI, NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT (GIVEN SITUATION I WOULD NOT EXPECT DEPLOYMENT). AFTER LANDING IN SHRUBBERY, REVERSED VEHICLE OUT AND BACK INTO PARKING SPOT. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE ALL FRONT END (BUMPER, FENDERS, HOOD, UNDER FRONT END, POSSIBLY ENGINE). THERE IS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO FRONT OF VEHICLE. AUG 4, 2014: RPTD TO CUST. CARE. AUG 11, 2014: HMA RECEIVED COMPLETED PIR PACKET & VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER. AUG 18, 2014: TOLD (BY SERVICE ADVISOR) VEHICLE PICKED UP FROM DEALER ON AUG 14, 2014 FOR 3RD PARTY ENGINEERING INSPECTION. HOWEVER, OWNER'S INSURER CONDUCTED CLAIMS EVALUATION ON AUG 15, 2014 AT SAME DEALER. AUG 20, 2014: 3RD PARTY INSPECTOR CALLED OWNER TRYING TO LOCATE VEHICLE. HYUNDAI CASE WORKER AND LOCAL SERVICE ADVISOR UNABLE TO LOCATE VEHICLE. AUG 25, 2014: 3RD PARTY INSPECTOR COMMITTED TO FIND CAR (ESTIMATED INSPECTION AND RELEASE DATE AUG 27, 2014). AUG 27, 2014: 3RD PARTY INSPECTOR FOUND CAR IN LOCAL DEALER'S SERVICE LOT (VEHICLE WAS LOST' FOR 2 WEEKS). 3RD PARTY INSPECTION COMPLETED SEP 2, 2014 AND VEHICLE RELEASED FOR BODY WORK REPAIRS. 3RD PARTY INSPECTOR WAS NOT AUTHORIZED TO PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION ON FINDINGS OF INSPECTION, EXPECTED TURNAROUND OF HMA REVIEW IS AN ADDITIONAL 2 WEEKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART. WHEN ENTERING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,200.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 60MPH, 100 DEGREES OUTSIDE, A/C ON LOW INSIDE THE CAR (NO A/C VENTS IN THE REAR OF VEHICLE), I HEAR A LOUD POP. I THOUGHT A TIRE BLEW. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE THE BACK WINDOW SHATTERED YET STILL IN PLACE AS IT'S SAFETY GLASS. WITH EACH BUMP IN THE ROAD THE GLASS BEGAN TO FALL INTO THE CAR. MY CAR HAS 5340 MILES ON IT. I HAD NO CHIPS IN THE GLASS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE SITUATION HAD I HAD A REAR FACING BABY SEAT IN THE CAR WITH AN INFANT. OR REAR PASSENGERS OR BEEN SO STARTLED BY THE SITUATION IT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. NONE OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED, FORTUNATELY. *TR
THE ENGINE STALLED ON SEVERSL OCCASIONS AND THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE. ON 7/21/2014 IT STALLED AGAIN WHILE IN GEAR.,CLOSING DAMAGE TO FRONT BNKER STERLING LOSS CONTROL WHILE BACKING OUT OF HNDICAP SPOT. THERE IS AN INSURANCE CLAIM, TOWING, BODY SHOP REPAIR AND RENT A CAR COSTS.
THIS CAR IS DIFFICULT TO STEER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CARS DRIFTS TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT AND IS DIFFICULT TO STEER IN A STRAIGHT LINE. CONSTANT CORRECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL IS REQUIRED. *TR
CAR IS ADVERTISED TO GET 25MPG CITY AND 35MPG HIGHWAY WITH A COMBINED RATING OF 27MPG. I AM DRIVING 50-55 MILES PER DAY ON THE HIGHWAY AND 10 MILES IN THE CITY. I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE THE SIMILAR TO MY PREVIOUS CAR. I AM USING LOW RPM ACCELERATION AND MAINTAINING A CONSISTENT SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. MY CARS MPG IS AVERAGING 27.5MPG FOR AT LEAST 3500 MILES. *TR
I WAS DISGUSTED TO SEE THE CURRENTLY PLAYING HYUNDAI SONATA COMMERCIAL IN WHICH AN ADULT MAN IS ILLEGALLY AND DANGEROUSLY DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT WITH A CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT. AS THE CAR STOPS IT IS APPARENT THAT THE BEHAVIOR IS A GAME WHICH IS THEN REPEATED. I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE HYUNDAI ORGANIZATION TO PROMOTE CHILD ENDANGERMENT OR THEY ARE JUST SICK. . TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, SOME NOISES WERE HEARD FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND LOST POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND A BURNING ODOR WAS NOTICED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF, AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WORLD HYUNDAI IN MATTESON, IL FOR A ROAD TEST, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE SAME DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA ON MAY 31ST. ON JUNE 15TH, I WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT WAITING ON MY HUSBAND, AND I REACHED INTO THE BACK SEAT TO HAND MY ONE YEAR OLD A TOY. WHEN I REACHED BACK, MY SEAT BELT SNAPPED AND BROKE FROM THE CONNECTING POINT ON THE FLOOR BOARD. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT ON TO HYUNDAI AND THEY HAVE STATED THEY ARE UNSURE AS TO WHY IT SNAPPED. MY HUSBAND WENT BACK TO GET THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE TECH STATED THAT IT STILL WASN'T FIXED. HE STATED THAT WHEN IT WAS INITIALLY FIXED AND SOMEONE SAT IN THE SEAT AND TURNED IT SNAPPED AGAIN. WHEN DRIVING THE SONATA FOR THE FIRST TIME THREE DAYS LATER, MAY 28TH, I NOTICED ON THE INTERSTATE, 55-70 MPH, THE CAR DRIFTS AND HAS TO BE CONTINUOUSLY CORRECTED LEFT AND RIGHT. DOING FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE IN THE PAST MODEL YEARS AND NOT CORRECTED BY HYUNDAI. I AM 58 YEARS OLD, A CAR NUT, AND HAVE WORKED ON MY VEHICLES AS WELL AS TOTALLY RESTORED A 67 GTO AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCE A NEW VEHICLE WITH THIS TYPE OF STEERING PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER AND HIS RESPONSE TO MY QUESTION WAS THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE CAR WITH ELECTRIC STEERING AND THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT. ON MAY 7,2014 THE SONATA WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY TWO WEEKS OLD AND ABOUT 700 MILES ON IT. WHEN O'BRIEN HYUNDAI TOWED IT TO URBANA,ILLINOIS. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION HAD LEAKED ONE QUART OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. HE ALSO STATED ONE OF THE PORTS HAD NOT BEEN SEALED AT THE FACTORY. WHEN PRESSED HE TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HE ALSO STATED WHEN THE CAR RAN OUT OF FLUID IT WOULD JUST LOCK UP. FRIGHTENING THOUGHT OF THE CAR WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH. WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE "MPG" METER DECREASE ABOUT 1/8 PERCENT EVERY SINGLE TIME I START THE CAR. DAVE NEVER RECEIVED SERVICES FOR SALES, SERVICES, OWNERS PLUS AND HYUNDAI REFUSED ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THEY SAID YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE SERVICES UNTIL YOUR CAR RUNS 7,000 MILES FOR "ANY" SERVICES OR PAY RIGHT THEN AND THERE $100 - 115/HOUR TO 'DRIVE-IN' THEIR SERVICES! ALL HYUNDAI WERE RUDE AND BIAS AND I WILL SEND A LETTER TO THE FTA FEDERAL AGENCIES IN THE UNITED STATES. *TR
THIS CAR IS DIFFICULT TO STEER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CARS DRIFTS TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT AND IS DIFFICULT TO STEER IN A STRAIGHT LINE. CONSTANT CORRECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL IS REQUIRED. THE CONTROL MOST DIFFICULT ON MILLED PAVEMENT AND IS VARIABLE DEPENDING ON ROAD SURFACE. MY FIRST THOUGHTS WERE THAT THE TIRES WERE AN ISSUE AFTER READING OTHERS COMMENTS IT APPEARS THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES. IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THIS EFFECTS WINTER DRIVING. *TR
THE NEW SONATA IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. IT WILL NOT STAY IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT IS CONSTANTLY MOVING OR FADING RIGHT TO LEFT. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP RESPONDS ITS BUILT TO GO TO THE RIGHT INCASE YOU FALL ASLEEP. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH TO FIND THE SONATA HAS HAD A LONG HISTORY OF THIS SAME PROBLEM SINCE 2011. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING PUMP. WELL AT HIGH SPEEDS ITS HARD TO HANDLE AND THE REACTION TIME IS MORE DIFFICULT TO COMPENSATE THE RIGHT AND LEFT MOVEMENT. I WILL BE TAKING INTO A SECOND HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP NEXT MONDAY SO THEY CAN EVALUATE IT. THESE SONATA'S REALLY NEED TO BE LOOKED AT. IF DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS THEY MOVE INTO THE OTHER LANE AND THAT IS A MAJOR CONCERN THAT HYUNDAI IS NOT LOOKING AT. THE ONLY THING THE FIRST DEALERSHIP DID WAS CHECK AIR IN TIRES AND TORQUE THE SUSPENSION AS WELL AS HOOK UP A COMPUTER TO THE STEERING ASSEMBLY AND TES THE STEERING MODES. WHICH SONATA HAS NORMAL, SOFT AND SPORT. THE FADE TO RIGHT AND LEFT HAPPENS IN ALL MODES. *JS

HYUNDAI US HAS NOT BEEN RESPONSIVE TO COMPLAINTS. CRUISE CONTROL HAS FAILED TO OPERATE SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. HYUNDAI HAS ATTEMPTED 3 REPAIRS AND ARE NOW DENYING CLAIMS.
CAR BATTERY GOES DEAD,UNABLE TO START CAR, COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. THE DEALER HAS NO IDEA WHY. EVEN HYUNDAI CORP DOES NOT HAVE ANY ANSWERS. THE CAR HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DAYS AT A TIME WITH NO RESOLUTION. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE CAR CAN LEAVE YOU STRANDED, IT IS SO UNRELIABLE. THIS IS A 2014 SONATA. TRAVELING AT SPEEDS 60+ MPH ON INTERSTATE AND 2 LANE SPLIT HIGHWAYS THE VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE LEFT. VEHICLE REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTION AND ATTENTION WHICH BECOMES EXHAUSTING ON A LONG DRIVES. ISSUE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO HYUNDAIS ATTENTION HOWEVER THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 MONTHS AND THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN 2 MONTHS.
