Check engine light on. Taken to hyundai dealership for recall repairs. At the time, 3 recalls on vehicle. Informed that check engine light was on due to recalls. Dealership kept car for 1½ weeks and notified me that 1 recall (filter) was not completed because parts are on back order. Dealership had me pick up vehicle and said that it is okay to drive car; however, after calling another Dealership, the Service rep informed me that cars should not be driven while engine filter recalls are open because it could potentially further damage vehicle. Vehicle has now been sitting in my garage for over 2 months and I'm making payments for a car I cannot drive.
Several times this has happened. I am driving and all of a sudden my car stops and I get a message that says Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. The car will coast to the side of the road at times and other times it won't. I have taken it to the Holler Hyundai dealer in Winter Park FL and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They had my car for less than an hour. I told them there was no way they could have fixed the issue but they said they did. Obviously they didn't fix it because it has happened several times since then. Now my car will not even move. It starts up, radio works, AC works, just will not move. It is at the Sanford Hyundai service shop waiting for them to tell me what it is
Driving on highway car lost speed check engine light blinking. Got home car was knocking, I believe the rid barron or knock sensor failed. Can't drive it.
The vehicle is driven roughly 80 miles a month for groceries and doctor appointments only. It has 40,900 Mike's on it and began to continually have the check engine, ABS, and traction control lights come on. The vehicle once put in drive or reverse will increase speed on it's own, nothing faster than about 7-10 miles per hour on a flat surface. I also noticed when these lights are on and I am in park the odometer will jump from 0-80,90, mph randomly. The lights will not always stay on or come on, just occasionally. I did take it for inspection for the above problems and had to replace the intake and outtake valve on cam shaft and a sensor (may have named them wrong). Just want to o report in case others are having same issue.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21V749000 (Exterior Lighting, Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called the local dealer who stated that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue however, no further assistance was provided. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Heavy odor of gas in backseat and truck. Noticed odor in garage while parked and when driving had to roll down windows! I took to mechanic. He found a crack in fuel tank. My Hyundai had been at the dealership that week with them changing the oil and rotating tires but they did not acknowledge it! Mechanic informed me that this could be a very dangerous situation and should not be driven. Dealership no help.
Sonata sport 2015 engine seized while trying to cross intersection of busy road, no one hurt cars swerved onto shoulder to avoid t-boning my car. The car was towed to the dealer and confirmed the engine seized due to the recall of engine that was sold defective. Denying claim bc the software campaign 953 was not performed, although I never received the notice. I am second owner bought car used from Hyundai Dealer.
Out of the blue, I heard a very loud knocking noise coming from my engine. I was driving my children to school and as I hit the gas pedal the less power my car had. Not only would it not accelerate much but even the lights would dim. I am now paying over $400 a month for a car that I can not drive and walking where I need to go. My vin number does not qualify me for the engine recall Hyundai has, even though my car is the right year, make and model, engine size and problem that the recall is for. Awesome right?
Had an Engine recall for the 2015 recall, was told that Transmission was the reason for the Engine failure, but the dealership would not fix the Transmission. Shortly following the replacement of the Engine, the problems that reside in the transmission are now costly up to $3000 or more for this issue. After extensive research found that the 2015 sonata has had plenty of issues with its Transmission. Responsibility for the Faulty Transmission causing engine to completely shut down and not work (happened while on highway) should fall on the dealership.
The contact's granddaughter owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his granddaughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with low engine compression. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was not related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact attempted to inform the manufacturer of the failure on four separate occasions, but a representative informed the contact that they could not hear the contact and disconnected the call. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
I was driving under normal conditions and every warning indicator light and chime went off, speedometer and tachometer gauges went to zero, digital display of speedometer went blank. I immediately pulled into a parking lot and shifted into park. I called the nearest Hyundai dealer to speak to a service rep, but was told they were busy and would call back. The car would not shift, it was locked in PARK. I turned it off, waited and turned back on, all warning indicators were still flashing, but I was able to shift into drive, and went straight to the dealer. Diagnostics by dealer was that "CEL WAS ON DUE TO HISTORY CODES. CLEARED CODES AND TEST DROVE THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WORKS AS DESIGNED." 200 miles later, same problem. I will gladly make my vehicle available for inspection upon request. I searched the internet and found others were having same problem. steering wheel locked up while driving causing vehicle to run off the Hwy. vehicle flipped causing injuries
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contacts son stated while driving approximately 40 mph when the vehicle's steering wheel became hard to turn. The power steering warning light was illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V325000 (STEERING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) however the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with being an electrical issue. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the same issues. The manufacturer was informed of failure and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
Vehicle has manufacturer defect paint started to peel
I just got my 2015 Sonata Hybrid in April. Most every time I try to accelerate from a stopping point, the car will not go for at least 3 seconds. I had to sit through a whole green light once because it just wouldn't go. I've pulled out onto highways, needing to pick up speed only to not go at all causing others to nearly smash into me. Also, It can not drive up hills. Twice i have been stopped at a stop sign on a hill and my car would just not go. I had to literally put it in reverse and go back down. One time I had a line of traffic back up behind me. I didnt know what to do! The absolute worst and scariest thing is the car not going when I'm making turns. My daughter and i were almost tboned trying to make a left turn into a driveway. The car just wouldn't go. All I could do was watch this huge truck heading straight for my daughters door. Finally, seconds before we would have been hit, the car decided to gom Sickening!! I have tried everything from cutting off the Blue Drive and EV mode to using the slap stick. Nothing seems to make a difference. I have an appointment with the dealership next week.
Transmission shudder, reverse gear not working, stuck in 3rd gear.
The Pearl White paint on the roof has started peeling. This is a known Delamination issue from Hyundai and many other owners. It is beginning to peel in larger areas each week.
While driving on the freeway the engine began loosing power and there is a knocking sound. My daughter was almost rear ended trying to get off the freeway. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and i was told the rod bearings are bad and the engine needs to be replaced. The vehicle has regular oil changes and does not consume a lot of oil. No warning lights came on. The dealership refuses to inspect the vehicle because it has a salvaged title. The failure happened at 108k miles.
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, light gray smoke began to emit from under the hood with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle began to stall while the vehicle was being pulled off to the side of the roadway. The contact and two passengers inside the vehicle exited the vehicle and the smoke turned from light gray to black as the smoke became thicker. There was an abnormal popping sound before the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department was contacted and the fire was extinguished. A fire report was not filed. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,643.
I brought car in to see about engine light they told me it was a cvvt and it would cost $1700 which I couldn't afford they stated that because I did not get my oil changed there they could not cover it even though I had prrof of my oil changes from other companies. So took car to mechanic he stated that if I did have cvvt replaced in 6 months time I would have needed a new engine anyway . So he replaced the engine . I have done my homework spoke to numerous people and they have they same issue . How does a 2015 Hyundai with 104000 miles need an engine replaced
My Sonata Eco is a 2015 model with less than 46,000 miles. I take it for scheduled maintenance at least twice every year since I purchased it. The vehicle was experiencing stuttering, vibrations and lack of acceleration, most frequently when turning, moving uphill or early after startup. The stuttering would vary in it's intensity, from barely noticeable to strong enough to shake passengers. Sometimes when performing a turn, my car would not be able to accelerate, leaving me in the path of oncoming traffic until it would start working again. This would also occur when travelling uphill. No warning lights or other messages were given by the car. After taking it to the Hyundai dealership they informed me that my transmission was faulty and would require a full replacement. They specifically mentioned it was a mechanical issue with the dual clutch not engaging properly. All electronic/software in the vehicle was confirmed by the dealership to be up-to-date so this was purely a mechanical issue.
Shortly after I purchased car (April2021) from JD Byryder in Peoria,Il. the car was not running right. Motor cutting out loss of powwr. I have car shield and took the vehicle to Hyunadi dealer in Peoria,Il. and also to a dealer in Dayton,Oh. was verified that the vehicle has a bad turbo. Car shield refusing to fix the car without engine being torn completly down, Hyundai dealers refused to help. Now the car is burning oil and no sign of where the oil is going. I bought this car in good faith was told the motor was under recall but nobody wants to take ownership and fix it under the recall.
Steering column made gravelly noise and felt wrong after service checkup. Finally acknowledged and fixed (no charge: paid $1600 for extended warranty on purchase 5 years ago) a month later. Horn honks briefly and intermittently sometimes after stop after service checkup. Not yet acknowledged or fixed. Tried to charge an exorbitant amount for service, despite our having an extended free warranty, and refused us a loaner car. Service horrible.
The biggest problem is that the oil is going into the spark plugs this started happening approx 1 year ago and I have been complaining about this to Hyundai to the B.B.B. and the Attny Generals office I am told to take it too hyundai dealership whenI mentioned they will charge me to tell me what I have already been told I was told by Hyundai they can not control there own dealership??? Keep in mind I still owe on this vehicle and have not owned it for even 5 years...The paint is coming off all over the vehicle and the seat belts do not retract as they are suppose too! This is not the first Hyundai Sonata I have owned but it still has existing problems and family and friends have the same problems,Please help to get this fixed!!Thank you Vehicle was purchased in Danvers, MA
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle stopped suddenly on its own and was rear ended by another vehicle. The contact was able to drive the vehicle away from the scene of the collision. There was no medical attention received. A police report was filed. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
Engine stalled and there was a loud knocking sound. Had vehicle towed to dealer only to be told that this is a known issue with Hyundai and we need a new engine. No loaner cars available and 36 people are in front of me with the same problem. No timeframe available for a resolution. Huge inconvenience. Called Hyundai only to be told that a case manager would call me in 7-10 days. If it’s a known issue, why haven’t they recalled the affected cars like last time?
Turbo engine has failed does not go over 40 miles
I was on the highway coming home when my engine failed to go over 40mph i had to pull over on the side of the road and when we did the car just cut off completely this is the sencond time it’s failed since june of 2020, The turbo engine in my car keeps failing. I have the 2.0t
My car is burning through a quart of oil appx every 600 miles- this is NOT normal it's excessive oil consumption.
My car caught on fire while operating
It started with the engine stalling, then a pinging noise. Then the engine stalled permanently, and the noise in the engine became louder. The engine now has no power.
The contact's boyfriend owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 mph, the moon roof detached from the assembly and shattered behind the vehicle without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they informed her that vehicle was not under warranty nor recall. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
I experienced extremely high revving at idle(about 1500 rpm to 1750 rpm). I also experienced a dangerous loss of acceleration when trying to accelerate. I would put the accelerator to the floor and it would take about 10-15 seconds to reach a safe speed on a highway on ramp. Additionally I am consuming about 1/2 quart of oil per week. I change my oil faithfully every 3-4k miles and have documentation to prove it. My oil was down 2 1/2 qts at one point which I discovered by accident via my mechanic. There was no indication of this with the low oil indicator light. I only discovered this when my check engine light came on and my mechanic investigated the code.
The connecting-rod bearings in the engine damaged. I've read that it was a recall problem in hyundai's engines. i have abnormal knocking noises from the engine, reduced power or hesitation, illumination of the "check engine" light.
The Camshaft Seals are defective and cause the engine light to come on and also I experience power loss while driving on the highway.
When driving at low speed straight ahead, steering locked up and was unable to turn left, steering wheel could not be turned from straight ahead position. Stopped vehicle and then started again, tried series of left/right turns to try and duplicate problem, steering would then randomly lock up when attempting to turn, more in left turns than in right. Occasionally was able to make full lock turn to left or right, however steering wheel would "catch" and wheel could not be turned to full lock unless vehicle was stopped and started again. At this point vehicle is not safe to drive and will need to be towed to Hyundai dealer, however Hyundai dealer says it will be at least 2 weeks before they can look at it, so vehicle is completely out of service.
Drivers side seat belt does not retract properly. If i pull it out a little too far when buckling then it will just hang there instead of retracting snugly so it provides the same amount of safety as having no seat belt on at all. Every time that I took my car to the dealer for different fixes I always brought that up and they always overlooked it and never did fix it and now my extended warranty is out and it's still not fixed even though it was like that the day that I bought it and I started complaining about it that very first week.
I’ve been with my car for 2 years due to engine failure.
Cracked dash. This is an ongoing issue with Hyuandai since around 2009. Please investigate. Do the research. I normally wouldn't even come on here to complain. This is my 3rd Sonata. Same issue.
2015 sonata intermittent problem which involves loss of acceleration when taking off from a stop. One has the accelerator to the floor and vehicle goes to 10 to 12 miles/hour until it gets to about the 3rd or 4th gear. This car has done this 5-6 times since the 20th of May. Took car to dealer; they hooked it up to the computer and got no codes, so I was told it was OK. I told them the car was unsafe to drive. This car has a duel-clutch automatic transmission which I believe has a major problem. Not sure what I can do about it. It has 71,000 miles and should be under warranty.
My motor to my vehicle all of a sudden started making noises as I was on my way home and dropped speed and didn’t accelerate past 55MPH, my car started stuttering every time I hit the gas and it won’t go past 2000RPM and my check engine light started blinking at me. The safety issue with this is that when it stutters it could cause a potential crash and put me and others in danger. I took it to a Swope Hyundai dealership and they told me the barrings just automatically became damaged and the motor has to be replaced. I had this car for less than a year and it already starting to have problems. This issue happened 05/18/2021. The issues before the problems started becoming more severe was constant stuttering after I drove off after being to a complete stop from a red light. I’m extremely irritated as to this is the car that is suppose to help me get to work and college yet I can’t because it just decided to just break down on me in less than a YEAR!
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK I GOT ABOUT 5 MINUTES AWAY FROM JOB THE LIGHT AHEAD TURNED YELLOW I WENT TO EASE ON THE BRAKE PREPARING TO STOP MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED CAR CAR SHUT OFF AND WOULDNT START LIKE I SAID I WAS 4 MINUTES AWAY FROM MY JOB SO I MANAGED TO GET IT THERE I CHECKED ALL FLUIDS THEY WERE FINE HOWEVER WHEN I DID OPEN THE HOOD IT WAS SMOKING FROM MY ENGINE
While commuting to work on a rainy evening, the wiper blade appeared suddenly to become loose and quickly became fully detached due to the motion of my windshield wipers. It was flung from my car and could not be retrieved. The replacement wiper blades (driver and passenger side) were attached by a licensed mechanic, and they both seemed to function properly after installation until the failure occurred. The passenger side wiper blade remained connected. It had been replaced simultaneously along with the driver side blade; therefore they each sustained the same wear and relative minimal usage following their application before the critical incident. It was disturbing to have a piece of equipment necessary for the safe operation of a vehicle suddenly fail while the car was in motion, and during rainy weather conditions. There was no reason to suspect this would occur. I am hoping that reports such as this will help to put an appropriate degree of pressure on private companies to ensure they are selling products which are dependable rather than which compromise the integrity of valuable property and personal safety. The images I am including merely provide evidence of the product's purchase and support my claim of the failure. The photos of my windshield were taken upon reentering my vehicle after my overnight work shift. They show a faint line devoid of condensation, created by the bare metal windshield wiper having scraped against my windshield after the blade was disconnected.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced shuddering, loss of power and acceleration. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT LIKE 4:00 IN THE MORNING IT WAS STILL DARK OUTSIDE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND AS I HIT THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR STALL IT WAS MOVING SLOW SO ON MY RIGHT HAND SIDE THERE WAS A BUILDING SO I TRY TO MAKE IT TO THE PARKING LOT THE CAR STARTED TO POWER DOWN IN A KNOCKING NOISE STARTED IT WAS A BUSY MORNING IN THE MORNING WORK TRAFFIC
I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING A 'SAFETY STOP. CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM' WARNING MULTIPLE TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HYUNDAI MULTIPLE TIMES TELLING THEM OF THE ISSUE. THEY KEPT TELLING ME NO ISSUE COULD BE FOUND. THE LAST INSTANCE THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE IN THE CAR IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE A HAIL MARY TO SAY THEY DID SOMETHING. LAST NIGHT I WAS TRAVELING I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH. THE CAR STARTED DINGING AND GAVE ME THE WARNING ERROR ATTACHED. THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND ONLY ALLOWED ME TO COAST. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BARELY ABLE TO GET MYSELF INTO A LOCATION OF RELATIVE SAFETY. I PARKED THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONCE AGAIN. THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE, EXTREMELY UNSAFE, AND HYUNDAI CANNOT GIVE ME AN EXPLANATION OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND ALMOST LEAD TO A MASSIVE ACCIDENT.
Hyundai reprogramed their Theta engines to prevent an ongoing problem related to Theta engines not receiving oil to the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. The software modification was done by an unknown software house. When I got the first notice, I asked both the local dealer, and the official Hyundai site if this software would cut power, potentially at the wrong time, like going up an entrance ramp. I got no response and I found out why. I tried entering a highway where traffic was at 75 mph. When I got onto the ramp the car was running fine. Suddenly the power just went away. I had the gas pedal all the way to the floor and watched the tachometer and speedometer go down rather than up. I pulled off at the next exit and switched the programming on my transmission to normal from econ mode. Up the ramp I went, and car started slowing down. Tried one more time using the sport mode and the power went away. I'm afraid to try and run on a freeway at rush our because of the lack of power. I think the needs to be a review of the software and see if changes can be made.

I HAD MY OIL CHANGED 2 DAYS AGO. I DROVE TO WORK THE NEXT DAY WITH NO ISSUES. WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME I HEARD A NOISE AND MY RPM METER WAS FLICKERING. MY CAR HAD STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF STREET. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I INSPECTED MY ENGINE AND SAW THERE WAS A HOLE THE SIZE OF 50 CENT COIN. IN THE ENGINE. I AM NOT SURE HOW THIS HAPPENED. AS I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR, 5 MONTHS AGO.
