My vehicle started making knocking noise in front end. Took it to my mechanic and he told me to take to dealership and see if there is a recall for my car. I've done so much research on vehicle for recall and it says that its the rod knocking which should be covered as the recall I found but Hyundai is giving me problems with it. Vehicle is a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45–55 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to pull over, looked under the hood, and notice that an unknown fluid was boiling. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed her about unknown recalls. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the radiator was empty. The vehicle was not repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine) due to owner neglect. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
Passenger front door is inoperative from the exterior. It can only be opened from the inside, which is a safety issue if someone is being followed and needs to quickly enter the vehicle. It is the same issue as NHTSA ID Number: 11286381 that was reported 2.5 years ago, but this is now happening to me and there are several reports of this on Hyundai forums.
The engine is stalling. Check engine light is flashing. Car is in limp mode. Dealership say it not a matter of it but when the engine blows up. Have seen where some of these cars blow up and catch on fire. Hyundai want help me or thousands of other people with this problem
Car started making a loud rattling sound. Took car to get diagnosed, issue was with the connecting rod bearings inside the engine. Asked about current NHSTA campaign id # 20V746000 but was denied because my engine is not part of the recall. My car recently had a maintenance check up at the dealer and was marked as fine, no issues. Engine light blinked once for about two seconds, no other warnings. I am very upset as this could have lead to serious issues and now I have to pay out of pocket to replace entire engine. Open campaign recall is for 2015-2016 Hyundai Veloster, my car is a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. Why is my engine not covered in recall?
About 2 years ago, my Veloster suddenly started using oil and began knocking. No check engine light or other indicators came on. I had it inspected by a mechanic who confirmed that there was a problem in the lower half of the motor and it would have to be replaced. I was aware that other Veloster owners had been experiencing the same issue. I found recall spawned by a class-action which extended the engine's warranty to 15 years and 150,000 miles, but the website said my Veloster was not covered by the recall. I called Hyundai and they also said that my Veloster was not covered by the recall. I was very frustrated. People I know that sell Hyundai vehicles remained hopeful that Hyundai would come around and recall my car too, but I do not think that is going to happen since it has been nearly 2 years now. I have a 2016 Hyundai Veloster R-Spec (which is a turbo model) and it has the same engine as other turbo models that were recalled. I am very frustrated that this issue is widely known and Hyundai seems to have gotten away with creating a vehicle that's longevity is subpar from any I have ever owned. It recently dawned on me to ask AI for help and it recommended I contact and you, the NHTSA, so at the very least it is documented and patterns can be seen where this problem continues to occur with vehicles that were not part of the recall. I was very particular and admit about the maintenance on my Veloster. There is no reason that this car should be scrapped after experiencing a detrimental engine failure less than 7 years and 125,000 miles from when it was purchased brand new. I still have the car, which has been sitting in my driveway since before I had it towed to the mechanic about the engine problems.
Oil continuously drains beyond normal usage. Fuel consumption has also been consumed beyond normalcy. Taken major advantage of lack of knowledge on car maintenance by Hyundai dealership. No repair orders are issued as of late for any major changes to the vehicle. Last repair order(s) was completed 10/24/2023.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who inspected the engine oil and noticed there were metal shavings inside the engine oil. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings inside the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

Appointments book until first week of May so been without a car sense April 11th. I was made aware of the 2016 Hyundai Recall on premature connecting bearing rods vehicle that could lead to crashes because Veloster's are shutting down on the highway like mines did. I'm sending my car to dealership on May 2, 2023, to Thorton Rd Hyundai dealership to perform the steps the dealership recommended me to do to see if my car qualifies to get extended warranty to fix my engine. All complaints read on 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER 3C FWD | NHTSA reads to me that my car was underling and part of the effect it's just that I'm more fortune than others that my engine lasted longer due to the care that I gave to my car. I got an inspection on my car and was told to take it to dealership due to a recall The engine would sometimes stall while I was driving The last time I used it, it no longer turned on at all But a check engine light never turned on or anything of the sort The car hasn’t been inspected by anyone
While driving down the highway the engine began to knock loudly. When the engine stalled. The vehicle stalled while traveling on a congested highway at a speed of approximately 70MPH. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road where I waited for a tow truck via AAA for 5 Hours. The vehicle was towed to an independent service center that diagnosed it with a worn rod bearing, which in turn is causing the knocking. The vehicle has been maintained and oil changed regularly. Vehicle is unusable in current state as it is at risk for complete engine failure and risk of fire. No warning lamps or messages were present at time of incident. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
The engine overheated with no lights on the dash and the engine block cracked
I was driving my 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo when I started to hear a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. At this time I also noticed a decline in power and the check engine light came on. I made an appointment to bring the car to my local Hyundai dealership to have the car looked at. While en route to the dealership, the car suddenly made a loud bang and a profusion of smoke came out of the engine and engulfed the car, inside & out, making it impossible for not only me to see but also limited visibility for the person following me, which was extremely dangerous. I couldn't see or breathe and had to rapidly exit the car on the side of a busy road with no shoulder. The engine completely failed and the car was not drivable. I had the car towed to the Hyundai dealership where they told me the engine had seized and needed to be completely replaced. Although my VIN is not yet included in engine recall 20V746000, my car has the 1.6 liter GDI Gamma engine included in that recall. In addition, the exact chain of events that I experienced have been described by others whose cars are included in the recall which describes connecting rod bearings inside the engine wearing prematurely (creating a knocking sound and reduced engine power), causing engine damage. I am requesting an investigation into this incident as I feel that my car should be included in the recall. It was a very dangerous incident and I don't want others to needlessly experience this same problem, possibly with more harmful consequences.

Me and my who is currently pregnant was driving at a highway running 40mph when my car suddenly stalled. The engine died and my car is like on neutral. Thank god i was able to maneuver it to the sidelane and no one was injured. There were no warning lights whatsoever. I had to call a tow truck to bring it to my house. And since im very scared to use it again. And up to now the car is still not working, i wonder if its the engine or the alternator that caused the engine to die.
Oil pressure light began coming on around 7/1/2022. By 7/5/2022 car would accelerate past 40mph unless put into manual drive. Dealership pulled camshaft codes but said they couldn't find the code in manual for car. Now estimated $800 for repairs with airbag light also on
I took my car to a dealer called Lee Johns in Everett WA for 2 recalls, but they told me I had problems with my catalytic converter and they replaced it under warranty at no cost to me. After 2 days they gave me the car and it did not work more than 2 hours and the engine light started blinking and from one moment to another it reduced the speed to 20 miles per hour. I called the dealer and they told me to take them, but to this day they only replied that the car warranty would only cover 55% for the replacement of the damaged engine. They gave me the defective car after they changed the catalyst and I gave them a working car that now doesn't work and they only tell me that I have to pay 4000usd so that they can repair it and they haven't given me any report of the engine revision because It failed, after they changed the catalyst, only telling me that I should pay and then make a claim or sue the manufacturer. I delivered my car to them on June 27 and to date they have it in their possession, leaving me unable to move and me having to assume the costs of renting and paying friends to pass their cars to me. I hope they can see my case since they wrecked my car.

Late Spring 2021–notified of recall due to connecting rod/bearing issue. Hyundai dealer does engine inspection on 4/27/2021 & clears it. Also installed software update to monitor the problem. April 27, 2022–Car dies multiple times while driving on highway. Starts back up each time, but making clacking noise with Check engine & oil light on. Pulled over and had towed to mechanic. Couldn’t get diagnostic code, but told based on the incident, believe the issue related to recall & told to take it to dealer. Had car towed to Hyundai. Ran simple diagnostic. Got no codes. Manager drives & says some hesitation not unusual with Veloster. Did not stall. Recommends fuel additive. Early May 2022-Check engine light comes on & stays. Check at Autozone, Firestone, & dealer– told only catalytic converter code & car is drivable. Oil light starts flickering intermittently about every two weeks. Start scheduling earlier oil changes. Continues to flicker. Start adding oil between changes. August/September 2022?–Receive Hyundai letter stating warranty extended on my engine due to connecting rod recall. Warranty now 15 years/150,000 miles. December 20, 2022–Check engine light starts flashing. December 27, 2022–Dealer says can’t look at for 4 months, take to Firestone. Tech gets code 1326-returns no info in system but research & believe related to recall requiring Dealer fix. Connect with Dealer service & am able to get it looked at in a week. January 9, 2023–tech says excessive oil burnt at top of pistons & oil leaking into cylinders, due to internal seal failure. Recommend replacing engine, but not related to recall. Research finds recall due to faulty piston seals/oil leaks on 2019-2021 Velosters & plenty of complaints about oil seal problems & excessive oil burning problems with earlier Velosters as well. Car unsafe to drive on highway due to lagging acceleration & hesitation. 2/3/2023–call Hyundai America about safety concerns. 2/7/2023–Hyundai denies claim.
Engine is consuming oil. Catalytic converter becomes restricted, and motor will stop running while driving. After restart motor will not have enough performance to exit traffic. Catalytic converter was replaced and now problem is recurring.
Cruising on freeway ~70 mph when car starts slowing due to lack of power- for unknown reason car went into "limp mode", with turbo boost pressure and power cut off, barely enough power to keep car at 60 mph in order to make it to freeway exit to pull off. This could have caused serious collision. Turned off car, let it sit 1 min, turned it back on, and problem seemed to go away. No Check Engine Light, no OBD2 codes. Limp mode sometimes occur during harsh shifts but releasing throttle and reengaging usually fixes it but this time needed to shut off the car. Has been reported to dealer but they can't reproduce consistently and no CEL/codes so they won't try to find a fix. But losing power for no apparent reason on freeway definitely dangerous situation.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that she had initially received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where they inspected the vehicle and found no damage related to the recall, the recall was then removed and the vehicle returned to the contact. Recently, the contact stated that on two separate occasions, once while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified and provided a diagnostic fee for an inspection. The contact then took the vehicle to Hyundai of Yakima (3204 Fruitvale Blvd, Yakima, WA 98902) where they confirmed that the connecting rod bearing was defective which was linked to the recall. The manufacturer was notified by the dealer and the manufacturer denied the claim submitted to have the vehicle serviced under the prior recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 117,500.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated his daughter was driving and was at a stoplight. The driver was making a right turn when the vehicle lost motive power and the vehicle stalled lost power. The driver was able to restart the vehicle and slowly pulled the vehicle into a parking lot and parked. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had to pick up the vehicle the next day and have it towed to their residence and then towed to an independent mechanic to inspect the vehicle and failure was related to an internal issue with the engine making abnormal noise. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who diagnosed the failure as related to the catalytic converter and damage to the engine where it would need to be replaced. The dealer also inform the contact the failure could be related to an NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (engine), however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,270.
Engine has a very noticeable engine ticking just like every other 1.6 included in the Hyundai recall yet my engine isn’t included in the recall. How can my 2016 have the same issue yet not require a recall notice
Vehicle in service and has none functioning air bag. Not covered under warranty nor the extended warranty that I purchased This is a safety and risk issue for myself and others that would drive the vehicle.
The engine light began flashing and it was hard to drive without the car loosing speed like it was stalling out when I pressed the gas it did not get power. It smelled like burnt gas or oil and fumes where coming from under the hood. I have had it for 2 months. When I took it to autozone the code read P1326. I dont understand why other same year make and models are recalled and not this one. I will not be able to drive it because other same make and model recalls say there is potential for fire.
I own a 2016 Hyundai Veloster, and the Manual heater control unit only works on certain numbers. I haven’t had it checked out. But I first noticed it when I purchased the car. Sometimes the heater or air will just turn off. I know there was a recall for the same models but for 2015.
Has the issue with engine already involved in a recall but doesn't include this 2016 Veloster. We've never received a single recall or bulletin for this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The contact stated that while driving at 60 - 70 mph, clicking noises were heard then the vehicle stalled. The oil pressure light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact inspected under the hood and saw oil was coming back out of the oil reservoir. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact the next available appointment would be for November 9, 2021. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
Engine knocking loudly on cold start indicating possible rod bearing wear addressed on nhtsa safety recall number 20v746000. Car was taken to hyundai dealer for recall engine inspection and given clean bill of health and removed from recall listing. Vehicle was at the dealership for less than an hour which is not enough time to do the necessary inspection for rod bearing wear. Knock sensor software was updated, but knock sensors are designed to detect piston clatter or knock, known as preignition. Knock sensors do not and cannot detect engine noise from worn rod bearings. The inspection method obviously did not include any actual mechanical measurement for bearing runout to determine actual wear, but instead was based on what the tech could hear and his personal determination or that of his superior. I contend my car is still at risk for early engine failure as outlined in the safety recall and should be reinstated for a proper inspection.
It is making a banging noise in the engine as if it was starting to throw a rod or bearings in the engine of this make of car. There is a recall but my VIN is not included but from what i have read on this recall sounds exactly the same as my car is doing and sounding now,
I was driving, heard a big thunk then everything went dead. No brakes no engine control. After removing the bottom cover it appears that something broke and burst the engine bottom.block.
While I was driving down the road I suddenly heard a rod knock coming from the engine. I immediately pulled over and turned the car off. I was fortunate that I am aware of this known problem and can recognize the symptoms. An oil warning like appeared after the sound of the rod knock and just before I turned the engine off. I was on a local highway at the time and knew that the rod knock would likely result in an engine fire if I did not turn it off immediately. I checked the oil on the car and found that it was suddenly very low, which came as a surprise because I had just checked the oil a couple days before. I have since read that a common symptom associated with the Hyundai engine problems is sudden excessive oil consumption. After contacting Hyundai and insisting that this is a known problem with the 2016 Veloster Turbo they inspected the engine and confirmed the rod bearing was worn and the rod was knocking. They refused to acknowledge that ANY 2016 Velosters had been recalled for engine problems and refused to discuss it further. Since my car was still under warranty, the most they would agree to was partially covering the repair under warranty because I had modified the air intake on the car. To exacerbate the scenario, it took over 3 months for the local dealership to complete the repairs which were completed in just a few hours.
My car was stolen due to the the way the ignition was produced by hyundai
My vehicle’s check engine light is on, low oil pressure light is on, the engine is knocking, it’s overheating, stalling, and loss of power and acceleration. I have almost gotten hit by other vehicles multiple times because the vehicle has stalled or won’t accelerate. This has happened on the interstate and when pulling out into traffic. I have tried for days to an appointment at multiple Hyundai locations near me to get it fixed because it has all the symptoms that the recall says to look for. I called 5 dealerships and there are no appointments available. The earliest one is a week away. Customer care is no help at all. They basically told me to figure it out on my own. I am a single mother of 2 and now I have no transportation because of their faulty engine and they are doing nothing to help fix it. What if I get hit because my engine stalls and my kids are in the car with me? What if my engine catches fire because of this? I get shut down by every dealership and they won’t even offer a loaner or rental in place of driving the death trap they sold me until they can fix it. What can I do??
while using blinkers at night when they cancel out after turn the headlights turn off
