IN THE 2.5 YEARS I'VE OWNED MY 2011 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ, 4 DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN FROM THE INSIDE. THE FIRST HAPPENED WITHIN A YEAR OF OWNING THE CAR AND WAS THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE HANDLE BECAME EMBEDDED INTO THE DOOR AND COULD NOT BE PULLED. THE DOOR COULD ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE (OR BY ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND REACHING MY ARM OUTSIDE THROUGH WINDOW AND PULLING ON THE HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE). THIS PRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK IN THAT THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE HANDLE AND SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN IT HAPPEN BEFORE. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES (PASSENGER DOOR, REAR DOOR ON PASSENGER SIDE, AND AGAIN ON DRIVER'S SIDE). I HAVE NO CHILDREN AND AM USUALLY THE ONLY ONE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, SO IT DOESN'T RECEIVE MUCH WEAR AND TEAR. WHEN THE REAR DOOR HANDLE BROKE, THE DOOR WAS UNABLE TO BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. CAN YOU IMAGINE HAVING A CHILD IN THE CAR AND BEING UNABLE TO GET TO THEM? THIS TIME WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR BROKE AGAIN, IT ALSO QUIT RESPONDING TO LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON PUSHES, MAKING THE SITUATION EVEN MORE UNSAFE. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS SAID THAT IT IS A POORLY DESIGNED PART AND THAT IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN BUT THAT THERE IS NOT A NEW PART AND THAT, ONCE MY WARRANTY EXPIRES, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL OF THESE REPAIRS MYSELF. THEY ALSO HAD NO COMMENT ABOUT MY SAFETY CONCERNS WITH THE VEHICLE. HAVING THE DRIVER OR PASSENGERS BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE CAR QUICKLY IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AT A LOW SPEED; THERE WERE FOUR PUMPS IN LINE. AT THE FIRST ONE A CAR WAS BEING FUELED SO I WANED TO MOVE TO THE SECOND PUMP. WHEN I STARTED TO BRAKE THE CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD THEN I WAS PRACTICALLY STANDING ON THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR KEPT MOVING CAUSING ME TO HIT THE STATIONARY CAR. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT HER DAMAGE WAS MINOR; MINE WAS MODERATE. THE OFFICER STATED IN THE REPORT I WAS INATTENTIVE REGARDLESS OF ME TELLING HIM TWICE ABOUT THE BRAKING AND/OR ACCELERATION PROBLEM. HYUNDAI SENT AN "INDEPENDENT" TECH AFTER THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I REQUESTED THAT COMPANY INSPECTION FROM THE FIRST DAY OF THE ACCIDENT; I WAS INFORMED IT WOULD TAKE 4 TO 6 WEEKS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE; MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE THAT MORNING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR BUT NOTICED THAT THE SEAL ON THE DOOR WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE MECHANISM FOR THE CHILD LOCK OF BOTH REAR DOORS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
SINCE ABOUT 800 MILES THE TPMS LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND STAYS LIT FOR A WHILE AND THEN SHUTS OFF,. ON A RECENT TRIP, THE LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF MORE THAN 10 TIMES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE WE DO NOT KNOW IF THE TIRE PRESSURE IS LOW OR NOT. THE DEALER AND HYUNDAI SAYS THEY CANNOT REPAIR IT OR DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE LIGHT IS ON WHEN WE GET TO THEIR SHOP. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED. *TT
HIGH AND LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE INDIVIDUALLY. CHOICE #1=LOW BEAM AT PROPER ANGLE AND HIGH BEAM AIMED AT THE TOP OF TREES AHEAD. CHOICE #2= HIGH BEAM STRAIGHT AHEAD AND LOW BEAM 20 FEET AHEAD OF VEHICLE. EITHER WAY IS UNSAFE. HYUNDAI KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM BUT DO NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A REMEDY PUBLISHED IN THE INTERNET.
