There are 1 owner-reported speed control & cruise complaints for the 2011 Hyundai Veracruzin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
At about 60mph in a passing lane going up a fairly steep hill, I pressed the accelerator to downshift while passing. The accelerator pedal pulled away from my foot toward the floor. The car began uncontrollably accelerating. I was able to override this with the brakes, but each time I took my foot off the brake the car again downshifted and accelerated maximally. This was repeated at least five times. Shifting into neutral resulted in a high revving engine on three occasions. Turning cruise control on and off or canceling had no effect. I was able to stay on the brakes and get off the highway. I then shifted into neutral and the engine started over revving. I then turned off the ignition and restarted the car, which to this point is behaving normally. The floor mat was not interfering with the accelerator. The accelerator distinctly pulled away from my foot and went to the floor. There was no pedal confusion.
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
