SAFETY RECALL F-25 ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN**CC OCTOBER 05 THE ELECTRIC FAN IN THE CONSUMER 'S 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE BROKE AND PUNCTURED AN HOLE IN THE VEHICLE'S RADIATOR. NOVEMBER 06 THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ELECTRIC FAN. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND INFORMED THEM THAT THE FAN HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED TO REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER FOR THE REPAIR COST, BUT REFUSED TO REIMBURSE HIM FOR TOWING COST, RENTAL CAR, AND MISSED WORK. *NM
DT: THE CALLER SAID THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH LOST STEERING CONTROL. HE JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS STARTING TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE SAID THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SPIN FREELY INTO CIRCLES. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. HE WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPRESSION BOLT THAT HOLDS THE STEERING KNUCKLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SPINDLE TOGETHER CAME LOOSE AND CAUSED THE LOSS OF STEERING. THE REPAIR SHOP TIGHTENED THE BOLT. DEALER SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF THAT PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET.*AK
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOSING COOLANT FOR QUITE SOME TIME. IT HAS RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE TO HAVE HEAD PROBLEMS, BUT I NOW HAVE COOLANT IN MY OIL. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT DAIMLER-CHRYSLER USED 0331 CAST HEADS ON THIS MODEL CHEROKEE (2000 W/ 4.0L ENGINE). IT TURNS OUT THAT THESE HEADS WERE A POOR CAST ALLOWING CRACKS TO FORM NEAR THE #3 CYLINDER AREA ALLOWING COOLANT TO FLOW INTO THE OIL. THIS RESULTS IN A DROP IN OIL PRESSURE AND EVENTUALLY BEARING AND ENGINE FAILURE. I CONSIDER MYSELF SOMEWHAT LUCKY THAT I DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THE ENGINE SEIZED UP ON ME, HOWEVER I AM NOW LOOKING AT OVER $1000 IN REPAIRS THAT SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY FOR A VEHICLE WITH JUST OVER 50K MILES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED SINCE I BELIEVED JEEPS TO BE RELIABLY BUILT VEHICLES. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT SOMEONE FROM DAIMLER-CHRYSLER WILL READ THIS AND RECTIFY THE SITUATION BEFORE THE ENGINE FAILURE LEADS TO AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. *JB
DT: THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAME OFF THE TRACK, IT BROKE. THE CONSUEMR WAS JUST GETTING INTO VEHICLE WHEN THE SEAT SUDDENLY BROKE ON JULY 5, 2005. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED THE THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. *AK UPDATED 2/16/2007 - *NM
BAD LEAK COMING THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE THROUGH HEATING DUCT, 3 INCHES OF STANDING WATER COMMON ON RAINY DAYS IN PASSENGER SIDE. *NM
BOUGHT CAR USED W/49,000MI. AS SOON AS I GOT IT ON THE ROAD, I NOTICED THE "CHECK GAUGES" LIGHT ILLUMINATED AT A WARM IDLE, ONLY TO FIND MY OIL PRESSURE GUAGE PEGGED AT 0 PSI. DID RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND APPARENTLY THE "0331 CAST" BREED OF CYLINDER HEADS THAT DC USED IN 2000-2001 XJ'S ARE NOTED FOR CRACKING AFTER AN OVERHEAT. SURE ENOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACK IN THE CYLINDER HEAD, WHICH CAUSED COOLANT TO MIX INTO THE ENGINE OIL. CONSEQUENTLY, MY MAIN, ROD AND CAMSHAFT BEARINGS, AS WELL AS THE CYLINDER HEAD ITSELF HAD TO BE REPLACED. LONG STORY SHORT, THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OUT THERE EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE, DO RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY ANY CHEROKEE FROM THIS ERA USING THE 0331 HEADS. UNFORTUNATELY, DC NEVER STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND OFFERED A RECALL. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
ENGINE WAS KNOCKING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, DIAGONISTIC TEST SHOWED 6TH CYLINDER WAS MISFIRING LIFTER WAS DAMAGED. THE CAMSHAFT WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE LIFTERS AND HEADGASKET. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A 2000 VEHICLE WITH ONLY 81000 KMS NEEDS $2000.00 WORTH OF REPAIRS DONE. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED ME THAT HE CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS REQUIRED EITHER. HE ADVISED ME TO CALL 1-800- 465-2001 TO VOICE MY COMPLAINT. HE ALSO GAVE ME THE OLD PART TO SEND BACK TO CHRYSLER. THE 1-800 # I CALLED ADVISED ME THAT THEY WILL PUT MY INFORAMTION IN MY FILE, BUT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE FOR ME NOR DID THEY WANT THE PART. I WOULD LIKE FEED BACK ON THIS COMPLAINT AS I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY EXPERIENCES WITH CHRYSLER THUS FAR. ARE THE PARTS THEY ARE USING TO BUILD THESE VEHICLES NOT UP TO PAR? ????
DT: CONSUMER STATED THE PLASTIC THAT GOES OVER THE HEADLIGHTS WAS ALL FOGGED UP AND IT AFFECTED DRIVING AT NIGHT. DEALER COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACED OVER 9,000 OF FEET THE PLASTIC COVERS . SHE NOTICED THIS ABOUT A YEAR AGO, BUT IT WAS GETTING WORSE. SHE WAS TOLD BY ONE DEALER THAT IT WAS COSMETIC.*AK
THERE ARE CRACKS ALONG THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE TIRES, WHICH HAVE DEVELOPED AND COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO HAVE A BLOW OUT ON THE ROAD. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NM
LOOSING COOLANT VERY RAPID. (FILLED EVERY 2 DAYS) VEHICLE STATED TO LOOSE HEAT. COOLANT WAS ENTERING THE OIL. CRACKED HEAD GASKET WAS REPLACED AT $1300.00 WAS ADVISE HEAD GASKET WAS MADE AT THE MANUFACTURER TO THIN AND THIS CAUSED THE CRACK, AND THIS IS A COMMON CONCERN. *JB
THE 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY DIAGRAM FOR THE FUSE PANEL OR A MEANS TO DETERMINE WHICH FUSE OR RELAY PROTECTS A PARTICULAR CIRCUIT. THE OWNER'S MANUAL REFERS TO A CHART ON OR NEAR THE PANEL, AND THE ACCESS DOOR TO THE PANEL CONTAINS AN IMPRINT REFERING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL. SEVERAL SAFETY RELATED SYSTEMS ARE ROUTED THROUGH THE FUSE PANEL.*AK
2000 JEEP CHEROKEE ENGINE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE PISTON. AFTER THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, THEY STATED THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH COOLANT IN THE SYSTEM WHICH CAUSED THE FRONT FROST PLUG HEATER TO COME OUT AND THAT THE NO 1 AND 2 PISTON MELTED DOWN. THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH ONLY 42,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED TWICE. THE RUBBER AROUND ALL FOUR DOORS SHRUNK TO THE POINT THAT WIND AND WATER WOULD COME THROUGH. PERIODICALLY, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED THE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE CHROME ON THE WHEELS WAS CORRODED AND COMING OFF. THE FRONT PASSENGER ELECTRIC LOCK WAS MAKING A STRANGE NOISE WHEN THE DOORS WERE LOCK OR UNLOCKED. *JB
FREEZE PLUGS FAILED IN MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT, CAUSING THE ENGINE COOLANT TO LEAK, AND MAKING VEHICLE INOPERATIVE. COST OF REPAIRS TOTALED $1125.33. *AK
CYLINDER HEAD CRACKED AT ONLY 70,000 MILES ALLOWING COOLANT INTO THE OIL SUMP, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO ENGINE FAILURE OR, AS DEALER STATED, "ENGINE MAY SEIZE COMPLETELY *AK.
CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT BRAKES WARPED. AS A RESULT, FRONT END SHOOK. *AK
MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE [XXX] PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT IS HARD TO BUCKLE UP DUE TO SOME MECHANICAL INTERFERENCE INSIDE THE BUCKLE ITSELF. BOTH FRONT SEAT BELT LATCHES ARE DIFFICULT TO RELEASE BECAUSE THE RELEASE BUTTON DOES NOT ALLOW THE STRAP BUCKLE TO COME OUT WITHOUT A LOT OF MANIPULATION CAUSING THIS TO BE A SAFETY PROBLEM. *JB UPDATED 07/24/2012 *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
THE HORN AND CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. BUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEFECTS WERE REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY STATED THERE WERE NO OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS VEHICLE.*AK
BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT ROTORS WERE SCORED AND RUINED ON THE INSIDE ONLY. *BF THE BRAKES FAILED AT 33,809 MILES. LOOKING THROUGH THE WHEEL FROM THE OUTSIDE, THE OUTSIDE OF THE ROTORS LOOKED GOOD WITH NO UNUSUAL WEAR. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS AND NEEDED TO HAVE THE MUFFLER REPLACED. *NM
AFTER BEING INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. *JB.......*AK
I PURCHASED MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE FROM LEHMERS JEEP IN CONCORD, CALIFORNIA IN THE SPRING OF 2000. IVE HAD ALL THE SERVICING DONE THERE AS SUGGESTED. I TAKE CARE OF MY CAR AND DRIVE IT GENTLY. IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR, DURING THE WEEK PRIOR TO MY SCHEDULED 60,000 MILE SERVICING THE CAR OVERHEATED TWICE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND LET THE CAR COOL OFF. WHEN THE CAR WAS SERVICED THE BLOCK WAS CRACKED, THE WATER PUMP HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE BLOCK AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS REPLACED WITH AN IMPROVED BLOCK AS THE ORIGINAL ONE WAS KNOWN TO CRACK EASILY. THE BILL FOR SERVICE AND REPLACING THE CRACKED BLOCK WAS $3364.19. I BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE BLOCK. IT WAS KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE. I HAVE HAD ALL MY SERVICING DONE AT LEHMERS JEEP PER THEIR SCHEDULE. I REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER BUT WAS REFUSED.
AT SPEEDS OF 50 TO 60 MILES AN HOUR WHILE BRAKING OR IF A BUMP IS HIT IN THE ROAD, FRONT TIRE VIBRATION OCCURS AND WILL ONLY STOP WHEN SPEED IS LOWERED TO BELOW 40 MPH. AFTER TYPING IN "JEEP CHEROKEE FRONT END VIBRATION" ON INTERNET SEARCH DID I FIND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS PRESENT IN ALL CHEROKEES. IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM THE BRAKE CALIPERS WARPING THE ROTORS EVERY 8-10 THOUSAND MILES. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS VIBRATION MOVES THE STEERING SIDE TO SIDE VIOLENTLY. *JB
WHEN BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS VEHICLE VIBRATES HEAVILY. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKES EVERY 3000 MILES. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.*AK
COMPLETE SEPARATION OF TIRE TREAD FROM SIDEWALL. TIRE IS GENERAL AMERITRAC, TUBELESS RADIAL, CK-37121 35408, TREAD 4 PLIES OF 2 STEEL AND 2 POLYESTER, SIDEWALL 2 PLIES POLYESTER, SIZE P235/75R15, 105S, M+S, DOT ADHL 35A 4902, AUTO WAS A 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE CLASSIC. *JB
WHEN DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED, THE FRONT END VIBRATED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS FAILED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES, EVERY 15,000 MILES. *AK THE CONSUMER FOUND THREE OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE/MODEL EXPERIENCED THAT SAME PROBLEM. *SC *JB
WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE VIBRATED FROM THE FRONT END. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC I DETERMINED BOTH FRONT ROTORS FAILED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED OVER NINE TIMES, STARTING AT 5,000 MILES OF OWNING THE VEHICLE ,AND CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE WAS AT 36,202 MILES. CONSUMER INFORMED CHRYSLER ON TWO OCCASIONS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE SHOOK AND VIBRATED. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BRAKE PADS AND BOTH FRONT BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES PEDAL PULSATED, AND STEERING WHEEL SHOOK. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND BOTH FRONTAL ROTORS. *AK
BOTH FRONT DOOR WINDOWS DO NOT OPERATE UP AND DOWN DUE TO THE CHEAP PLASTIC PEICE THAT HOLD THE WINDOW ON THE TRACK, POOR QUALITY .NOTHING WAS DONE BY DANBURY DODGE IN CONN.
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER RECEIVING A JUMP START, THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE DUE TO A MALFUNCTION IN THE REAR BRAKES. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE DRIVER APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND VEHICLE SKIDDED 55 FEET BEFORE HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE ONLY SKID MARKS FROM THE FRONT TIRES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. CONSUMER COULD NOT LOCK DOOR WITH A KEY OR WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL. ALSO, SAME THING HAPPENED WITH PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR. MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER THAT THE DESIGN WAS CHANGED ON THIS VEHICLE WHICH MEANT THAT EVERYTHING WAS PUT TOGETHER,AND NOTHING WAS NOT WORKING.*AK
POWER DOOR LOCK MECHANISM STOPPED WORKING. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS WITH THE KEY. DEALER DETERMINED LATCHES MALFUNCTIONED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT $268.0O EACH PLUS LABOR AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. *AK
AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50MPH AND 60MPH, FRONT END OF VEHICLE AND STEELING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY. HAVE CHANGED TIRES, BRAKES, HAD TIRES BALANCED, AND FRONT END ALIGNED. THE CAUSE IS THOUGHT TO SUSPENSION OR BEARING ACCORDING TO ALL MECHANICS THAT LOOK AND DRIVE IT. NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE, ONLY THAT THE MECHANICS SAY THAT THIS YEAR CHEROKEE, IS KNOWN FOR THIS, AND THEY HAVE ALL SAID THERE IS NO KNOWN INVESTIGATION ABOUT THIS DANGER IN PROGRESS. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AT THIS SITE ALONE, I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHY THERE IS NO INVESTIGATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT END...
JEEP DRIFTS FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE WITH NO EFFORT BY DRIVER, TOLD THE BALL JOINTS ARE DEFECTIVE, BUT WONT REPLACE.*AK
I HAD SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE JEEP. I PURCHASED THE JEEP ON JULY 26, 2000 NEW. I TOOK EXCELLENT CARE OF THE VEHICLE, HAVE IT CHECKED AND OIL CHANGED EVERY 2500 MILES. BEFORE THE THREE YEAR WARRANTY WAS UP I HAD A TOTAL OF 15,000 MILES ON IT. I COMPLAINED OF IT SHIMMYING AND GRINDING SOUND IN THE BACK, BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A THING WRONG. IN FEBRUARY HAVING ABOUT $18,000 MILES ON IT THAT I NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP - $900.00 WORTH. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN DOWN HILL. I HAVE COMPLAINED SINCE DAY ONE THAT MY VEHICLE SHIMMIES OUT OF CONTROL INTERMITTENTLY, AND NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG, JUST PUT NEW CONTROL ARMS AND BUSHINGS ON IT AND, STEERING PINION, TIGHT STEERING, AND A HOST OF OTHER SUCH REMEDIES, TO NO AVAIL. THIS PAST WEEKEND, I WAS ALMOST IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 94, AS I DID GO OUT OF TOWN, AFTER THE ABOVE WAS FIXED, BUT APPARENTLY IT DIDN'T HELP AS MY VEHICLE SHOOK ALMOST OUT OF CONTROL AGAIN. I PUT ON MY BREAKS IMMEDIATELY AND HAD TO GO TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I STOPPED, SAT FOR A WHILE, AND THEN DROVE OFF, AND IT WAS OKAY FOR A WHILE, BUT IN THE MEANTIME, A DRIVER FROM BEHIND ALMOST HIT ME WHEN I HAD TO PUT MY BREAKS ON TO TRY TO CONTROL IT SOME. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS VEHICLE AND FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED BACK WHEN I FIRST COMPLAINED YEARS AGO. I WROTE DAIMLER CHRYSLER A LETTER REGARDING THE FUEL PUMP A FEW YEARS AGO, BUT THE COMPANY DIDN'T EVEN RESPOND. IN THE MEANTIME, I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, I WANT TO TRADE IT IN, BUT FEEL I WAS SOLD A REAL LEMON AND SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THE HASSLES, REPAIR COSTS, ETC. OF WHAT I WAS HOPING WOULD NOT HAPPEN WHEN BUYING A NEW VEHICLE, AND THE WAY I TAKE CARE OF IT. I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER BRAND NEW ONE, BUT DO FEEL THE COMPANY SHOULD HAVE CALLED THIS VEHICLE BACK FROM THE ONSET, AS IT HAS BEEN A LEMON, OF WHICH I HAVE EXPRESSED MANY TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. *AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE OFF, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB *MR
WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS STEERING WHEEL BECOME VERY STIFF. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT WRONG FRONT CONTROL ARM WAS INSTALLED, AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH THE CORRECT CONTROL ARM. *AK

LAST AUG (2002) MY IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED UP (WOULD NOT TURN WITH KEY INSERTED). THIS STARTED OUT ONLY OCCURRING OCCASIONALLY. AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS IT LOCKED UP COMPLETELY AND I HAD A MECHANIC DISASSEMBLE THE SYSTEM SO I COULD DRIVE IT TO THE JEEP WARRANTY GARAGE IN SEOUL SOUTH KOREA. THEY REPLACED THE INNER IGNITION SWITCH BARREL. THE IGNITION SWITCH WORKED FINE UNTIL THIS YEAR (AUG 2003) WHEN THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. NOW I'M WORKING WITH ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP IN ICHEON SOUTH KOREA, TRYING TO GET THIS THING REPAIRED SO AS NOT TO RE-OCCUR. MY 3 YEAR WARRANTY RAN OUT 3 WEEKS AFTER THE SECOND MALFUNCTION AND SINCE THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM, I FEEL THAT THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD SUPPLY AN ENTIRE NEW IGNITION SWITCH AND ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS TO COMPLETELY REBUILD THE INNER BARREL, OUTER CASE THAT HOLDS THE BARREL, SWITCHES AND LOCKS FOR ANTI-THEFT COMPONENTS AND ANY OTHER LINKED HARDWARE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN VIRGINIA AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY STATIONED IN KOREA AND SHIPPED THE VEHICLE HERE AT THAT TIME. *JB
I HAD TO REPLACE MY FRONT ROTORS AT 35,000 - CHRYSLER SAID IT'S NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND WOULDN'T FIX THEM. THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH A SEAL ON THE GAS TANK. I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AT LEAST 4 OR 5 TIMES BEFORE IT WAS FIXED. A $2.00 WIRE BROKE INSIDE THE FRONT DOOR FOR THE FRONT SPEAKER AT 43,000 MILES AND THEY CHARGED ME $200.00 TO FIX IT. THE SALESMAN SOLD ME A CONVENIENCE PACKAGE THAT WAS PURPORTED AS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT WAS ACTUALLY A TOWING AND RENTAL CAR PACKAGE. *AK
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BROKE AT THE BACK APPROXIMATELY JULY 2003. I HAD IT REPAIRED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE METAL IS TOO THIN AND THAT'S WHY IT BROKE. IT BROKE AGAIN SO I TRIED TO BUY A USED SEAT FROM SEVERAL SALVAGE YARDS. THEY ALL SAID THAT THEY SELL AS FAST AS THEY COME IN DO TO THE BACKS BREAKING. *NM

I HAVE A 00 CHEROKEE AND THE EVAPORATOR STARTED LEAKING I ONLY HAVE 39300 MILES ON THIS CAR.I THINK THAT THE EVAPORATOR SHOULD HAVE HAD LASTED LONGER THAN THIS.I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM CHRYSLER HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE 1985. *AK
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AN HOUR AROUND A BEND. SHE HYDROPLANED AND HIT A BOULDER ABOUT 3 FOOT IN DIAMETER HEAD ON, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO FRONT, BUMPER AND UNDERCARRIAGE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *NLM
