My 2017 has experienced multiple loss of power events( two on the highway!). The vehicle’s transmission will disengage and I will have to coast to the side of the road. My ignition is still on but have been told previously that my PTU needs replacing. I will have the amber service transmission light illuminated but only after having transmission disengage. This power failure is a extremely serious safety issue- now the local Jeep dealers have “no fix” and I am having to rent a car because of this safety issue.
There was no accident but I would like to prevent one. I believe there should be a recall on my vehicle regarding the service shifter. This defect could potentially result in power loss to the front wheels and the transmission being impossible to put into park. My vehicle service shifter light is on and my car jerks while driving. Is this not a problem with many Jeeps?
The following occurred at approximately 10:40 am: While traveling on our way home from grocery shopping, heading west on G Ave (Kalamazoo County, Michigan, on the north side of WalMart), cruise control was set to 53 mph (55 mph speed zone). Vehicle began to accelerate up to 59 mph, well beyond speed control setting, whereupon I pushed the “Cancel” button. Engine immediately revved up to about 6000 rpm, although drive seemed to disengage (it did not accelerate further), then RPM gradually returned to normal and normal speed control resumed but not under cruise control. We returned home a few minutes later, without incidence.
When accelerating the vehicle has a hard shift every now and then that’s very noticeable. Seems to be slipping or having trouble shifting occasionally when trying to get up to speed.
Vehicle started rapidly accelerating and was unable to turn off cruise control. Dash lights flashed on and off. Had to put the car in neutral and slow to a stop.
WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 395 TRAVELING NORTH FROM SPOKANE, WA, WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 60 MPH, AFTER CRESTING A LOW HILL AND DESCENDING THE HILL MY CAR'S ENGINE BEGAN RACING THE RPM WENT TO 4500 RPM AND I COULDN'T GET IT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP BY BRAKING OR CHANGING THE CRUISE CONTROL. MY CAR GOT TO 80 MPH WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE CRUISE CONTROL TO DISENGAGE BY PRESSING CANCEL AGAIN WHILE BRAKING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT'S VERY SCARY. I'M AFRAID TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL IN MY CAR.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON. NEED TO TURN OFF VEHICLE AND RESTART. IF LIGHT IS ON AND VEHICLE RUNNING THE SHIFTING IS HARD AND STEERING IS LOOSE
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SIDE ROAD, GOING ABOUT 20MPH WHEN IT WAS LIKE MY JEEP SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IT COMPLETELY STALLED. THE BATTERY LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP THAT SAID VEHICLE MUST BE IN GEAR, ALTERNATING WITH A SHIFT TO PARK OR NEUTRAL, PRESS BRAKE TO SELECT GEAR MESSAGE. I WAS ABLE TO SWING IT INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I PUT IT IN PARK BUT THE ERROR WOULDN'T GO AWAY AND WHEN I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE AND HIT THE GAS PEDAL, IT WOULDN'T MOVE. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT, IT WOULDN'T START. I SAT THERE FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD START BACK UP. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS AND DRIVE THE APPROX 2 MILES HOME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE DISPLAYED. LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR ON HIGHWAY. HAD TO WAIT ABOUT 30-45 SECONDS BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH ( APRIL). IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS. I'VE LOOKED INTO THIS PROBLEM AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE. *TR
CRUSIE CONTROL DOES NOT MAINTAIN SET SPEED LEVEL. WHEN SPEED IS SET, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL RAPIDLY INCREASE BY 10 TO 15 MPH. THE SPEED SET POINT DID NOT CHANGE, BUT THE CAR INCREASES IN SPEED. IT DID NOT RETURN TO THE SET POINT. THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ABLE TO BE DISENGAGED.
WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL, IT THE RPMS WILL JUMP FROM BETWEEN 1 -2 TO 5 VERY QUICKLY AND THE SPEED WILL INCREASE FROM 65 MPH TO 75MPH FOR NO REASON. THIS OCCURS WHETHER I AM DRIVING ON A STRAIGHTAWAY, UP A HILL, OR DOWN HILL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. IT OCCURS RANDOMLY AND IS VERY SCARY.
I DEACTIVATED CRUISE CONTROL AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE TO PASS SOMEONE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER I HAD RELEASED THE GAS PEDAL AND SO I PRESSED THE CANCEL CRUISE CONTROL MULTIPLE TIMES AND TAPPED ON THE GAS AND THEN THE BRAKE AFTER THAT MY CAR JERKED AND IT STOPPED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN.
SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE KEEPS COMING UP AND ALL LIGHTS ON GEARS TURN RED AND I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL JEEP. IT HAPPENS WHEN SWITCHING GEAR, PARKING, DRIVING. IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!
THE SPEED CONTROL IN MY CAR WENT WACKO A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. SPED UP FROM 45MPH TO 56MPH. IN THE SHORT SPACE OF TIME IT TOOK FOR THIS TO HAPPEN (1-2 SECONDS, NOT SURE AS I WAS FREAKING OUT...), I APPLIED THE BRAKE - TOO NO AVAIL, THEN I PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND THAT WORKED; WHICH WAS GOOD BECAUSE I ALMOST PLOWED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME (ON A NARROW SINGLE LANE ROAD ON A HILL GOING DOWNHILL SO, THERE WAS NO OPTION TO BAIL OUT, IF THERE HAD BEEN TIME TO DO THAT - WHICH THERE WAS NOT. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR 12 DAYS NOW AND THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIX IT. *DT *DT*JB
1ST, MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON DUE TO A FAULTY THERMOSTAT IN THE ENGINE. I'M DISPLEASED A 2 YEAR OLD CAR HAS SUCH AN ISSUE. I'VE BEEN TOLD IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM OR DEFECT. 2ND MY CRUISE CONTROL GOES ROGUE AT TIMES AND SPEEDS UP EXCESSIVELY IF NO INTERVENTION HAPPENS TO STOP IT.
AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND SHIFTING TO REVERSE THE CAR STALLS. ALSO WHILE DRIVING THE CAR HAS DISPLAYED THREE TIMES IN DIFFERENT OCCASIONS DISPLAYS "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND THE LIGHTS TURN RED ON THE SHIFT STICK (KEEP IN MIND THE CAR IS AUTOMATIC WITH 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION). I JUST GOT THE CAR A WEEK AGO AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT. THE CAR IS A 2017 WITH 35K MILES, NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY THEY SOLD IT BACK TO THE DEALER.
I WAS TAKING MY CAR OUT OF PARK WHEN I NOTICED A REALLY LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE SHIFTER. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE SHIFTER WOULD BE REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED MY TRUCK UP THE NOISE WAS EVEN LOUDER, AND THIS TIME I HAD AN ERROR MESSAGE ON MY DASH BOARD THAT READ "SERVICE SHIFTER". AT THAT TIME THE DEALERSHIP HAD ALREADY REPLACED THE SHIFTER. AFTER THEY RAN MORE TEST AND ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT A TOTAL OF 10 TIMES, I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, WHERE THE ERROR MESSAGE SAYS "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND THE CLICKING SOUND IS VERY LOUD. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE INFORMED ME THAT THE SHIFTER WAS JUST RECENTLY REPLACED ONCE AGAIN AND THAT THE OTHER ATTEMPTS TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER WERE A RESULT OF THE REPLACEMENT SHIFTERS BEING "BAD' (DEFECTED). CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF EVERY OCCASION THAT MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR THIS ISSUE, AND THEY HAVE EVEN ESCALATED THIS MATTER TO THEIR CORPORATE LEVEL TECHNICIANS KNOWN AS "STAR". I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT STAR WAS UNSURE OF THE ISSUE UPON THEM BEING CONTACTED IN REFERENCE TO THIS ISSUE. I HAVE YET TO SEE AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THIS PART, BUT OUT OF THE YEAR AND 8 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK, I HAVE SPENT APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AND 4 MONTHS TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED FOR THE SHIFTER.
ON OCTOBER 23, 2018 I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN I SLOWED UP TO MAKE A TURN AND THE TRUCK TURNED OFF WHILE TURNING WITH A VEHICLE BEHIND ME. THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE FILED ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH THIS SAME ISSUE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I PRAY MY HUSBAND OR I DON'T CAUSE A FATALITY OR BE A FATALITY DUE TO THIS 2017 JEEP BY CHRYSLER MALFUNCTIONING. I'VE NOTICED I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT'S EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE PLEASE HELP AND HOLD CHRYSLER RELIABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE.

THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET ON MY CHEROKEE. I WAS GOING DOWN A HILL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CRUISE WAS SET TO 59 MPH AND THE SPEED GOT UP TO 67 MPH. THE MOTOR REVVED TO ABOUT 4000 RPMS. I TURNED OFF THE CRUISE, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS THE MOTOR STOPPED REVVING AND RETURNED TO NORMAL. I PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE AND IT WAS FINE. I WAS ON A STATE HIGHWAY IN A 55 MPH SPEED ZONE.
