The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while stopped in traffic, the vehicle lost electric power and shutdown without warning. The contact stated she moved around the battery cables and the vehicle was able to restart. The dealer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving down the road, got onto the highway, and I suddenly lost my power steering. I noticed the red warning light come on right when it happened. Up to this point I never had any problems with the power steering or any warning messages. It was raining pretty hard, and I could not safely pull over for a couple miles. I finally found a space to pull off to. Turned my vehicle off, let it sit for a little bit and then turned it back on. The warning was gone and everything felt ok. So I got back onto the highway and 3 minutes later it all happened again. I was able to make it to my destination and hoped that if I let it sit a little longer maybe it'll fix itself. After about an hour I went to go start my car and the warning was still on and this time a warning message appeared stating my power steering needed servicing. I turned my car off and then back on and the message was gone and everything was working again. I left my destination to go back home about a mile down the road I lost my power steering again, this time both the light and the message appeared. I made it home and the issue continues to persist. I only have 45k miles on it. This just happened today so I have not been able to get it into a shop. The fact that this happened on the highway was very scary. I had a very hard time just trying to get it back into my driveway.
For the passed few months (beginning Sept 2022), my cars temperature gauge inside shows that its running hot even when there is coolant present. When checking the coolant prior to taking off the cap, the conatiner looks empty. However, when i take off the cap there is a gurgling noise and the container refills on its own. Unfortunately. I've had to add coolant to my car every 5-10 days to make sure it stays full because it constantly says it's hot, all the way to the H. Since then there have been a list of other issues: 1. heat has randomly stopped working and the check engine light has come on. 2. Error message saying automatic stop/start is unavailable and service stop/start 3. Lots of jerking when pressing the gas petal to accelerate and you can hear the gears trying to move, but it gets stuck at 1 number and then a hard jerk 4. Ticking/knocking sound when driving (started 1/1/23) 5. When using the dash screen, it randomly blanks out and I am unable to see/hear until I restart the car 6. Seatbelts lock when trying to put them on after starting the car. The belts will not move and it cannot be put on until after I move the car in reverse/drive.
The steering is very "glitchy" almost sticky. When driving the steering wheel does not move freely when turned and will slightly stick in place.
This vehicle equipped with turbocharge. On 3 different occasions vehicle stalled instead of accelerating while pulling out into traffic from a stopped position. Message appeared saying "Service electronic throttle". Also, ESS symbol came on in red where warning symbols appear at the same time.Later, that went off and electrical symbol came on, looks like lightning bolt. Engine did restart itself after about 20 seconds, with vehicle shuddering rather violently. This could have caused a serious accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated shortly after receiving routine maintenance at unknown local dealer, the infotainment screen delaminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle would independently call 911. The contact took the vehicle back to dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the radio to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V917000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,343.
This Jeep is going to kill myself and or my family. 1st I have already have had the tranny recalibrated less then a year ago and once again it's shifting rough around the same spread 47-53 miles per hour. 2nd. Since the day this was purchased in Dec of 2019 with 10 miles on it. There are dead spots in the acceleration. We have almost been hit a few times as the vehicle will not react to pushing on the accelerator. The recalibration of the transmission does not affect the dead spots that are in the acceleration either. They continued to be there. I cannot afford to keep taking this vehicle into the the shop to have it recalibrated 2x a year. Theese deaths trap should be recalled or removed from being driven as they are going to kill someone. There is no approximate days as it is a daily occurance since purchased.
My car shifted into neutral while driving and flashed "park to shift to drive" on the dash. I had to park, turn the car off, then turn it back on in order to drive. This happened 7 times trying to get home. The next day it just shut off while driving and the check engine light came on. I could have been rear-ended or caused an accident. My car would not accelerate until it was turned off and back on. I had people blaring their horns and swerving around me. The dealer told me the codes were an evaporative pressure switch and CAN bus code. They diagnosed the CAN bus issue as the PTU and replaced it. When I picked up the car, I had a rattling noise under the hood. I took it back to the dealer. When they fixed it, the ESS (Engine Stop/Start) was no longer working. A few weeks later, the jeep won't start and can't be jumped by other vehicles. Roadside assistance could get it started, but as soon as they disconnected their commercial jumper, it died. Had to tow back to dealer. Now I am told it is the alternator and battery.
Hello -- My Jeep has had a repetitive issue with the Start/Stop system since I took ownership. In recent months, my vehicle has stalled on two separate occasions by completely shutting down at a stop light. First the "hood switch is open" alert comes up, then an emergency braking alert comes up, all while the vehicle completely shuts off as I am accelerating. This is extremely dangerous as it could definitely cause an accident as I'm mid-intersection. I have taken my vehicle to Jeep to complain of the issue, but they have let me know that the vehicle is not recording the error codes and there is nothing to be done. They literally send me home to continue driving it and have the stalling happen again. I have done extensive research and found that I am not the only Jeep owner with this issue. In fact, they have also gone through very similar frustrations with the dealership as they state there is nothing to be done. From my research it looks like it could be the IBS connector (intelligent battery sensor), but it also could be a poor electrical system. Please help.
Both front doors fill with water in even the lightest rain. A health emergence is developing due to mold forming. Additionally, any/all electronics in the door are likely to short out causing many safety issues if this known problem is not addressed by the manufacturer .
The automatic start/stop feature shows a warning on the dashboard. The vehicle cut off completely at a stopping point 3 times on me. It’s not suppose to cut off completely, when I took my foot off the break and or pressed the gas the vehicle did not move nor was it still running.
Service 4wd light came on. PTU needs to be replaced. No dealer within a 20 mile radius had loaners and only 1 had an appointment before October. This is the same issue that was covered in 14-17 jeep recall 20V343 and is now happening in later models. Dealer has had car for 2 WEEKS while i pay out of pocket for a rental. Warranty will only offer $40 per day reimbursement. I am in NY there are exactly 0 rentals for that price. I should not be paying out of pocket for something that should clearly have a recall... AGAIN. On top of all this i have not spoken to my case agent once. Always "on phone" when i call. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Every time I come to a red light or a stop sign and apply pressure to the break the voltage of the battery goes down. The vehicle cuts off and it will not start back up. I can be in a traffic jam and apply pressure to the brake and the vehicle will cut off leaving me in the middle of traffic. It will not start back up.
tire explode , come out of the rims , damaged rims, bumper, motor cover ,alignment, brakes , fender, all the moldings, destroyed the under wheel well and damaged the power steering .
The Jeep auto restarted after a sitting at a red light then the car shut off and would not go. The accessory lights were still on and the dashboard indicated the emergency brake was on. Pushed the restart car button but the car did not respond. I manually turned off the emergency break and waited a minute then the car restarted after pushing the button. My safety was put at risk because the light had turned green and the car behind me had started to go. I put my hazard lights on and the car drove around me. Had this happened at a higher speed the car would have ran into the back of me and I'm pregnant so the life of my unborn child would have been put at risk. The problem has not been reproduced. There was no warning that the car was going to experience a problem. After it restarted I checked the battery indicator on the dash board and it was well charged. The only indication that there was a problem during the incident was that the dashboard said emergency break in red.
Issues with PTU (Power Transfer Unit) - I will attach documents
When stopped at a light, the light turned green, the parking break engaged and the car shut off. The car behind me almost rear-ended me. After waiting a minute I put the car in park and tried to start the car again. I had to put the gas pedal to the floor to get the car to start and not stall out. This has happened on multiple occasions. I took the car to the dealer and learned that I had a motor with faulty rings and was given a new motor, however this problem has still persisted. The driver side door also accumulates water. Enough water to hear when making a turn.
I was driving under the speed limit at night after work and a bull Elk piped out running at fun speed. I barely had a chance to put my foot on the break. I had to a head on collision. My 2019 Jeep trailhawk front airbag deployed. My driver side knee air bag blew my ACL. I no longer have one in my right knee. I have to get a new ACL from a donor “Cadaver” from my understanding the brand of knee airbag are recall. Takata brand. They explode when deployed. It caused multiple problems in my leg. I can’t walk
PTU went bad. Going to cost $3000+ to repair. Can’t use 4x4 until it is which is why I bought the Jeep. Seems like this is a common issue with the vehicle and wanted to report it.
DROVE VEHICLE AND VERIFIED NOISE. RACKED VEHICLE AND CHECKED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE. FOUND THE PTU OUT PUT BROKEN INSIDE THE PTU, ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE SHAFT. SMOKE IS FROM THE PTU FLUID LEAKING OUT ALL OVER THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND Note BURNING OFF. NOTE CHECKED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE PTU FAILURE AND FOUND THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES DIFFERENT CIRCUMFERENCE. TIRES WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE NEW PTU
When stopped the car will engage the emergency break and stall. The car then has difficulty restarting. It will just turn over and over and eventually after letting it sit for a minute, it will restart. The brake light and now the battery light come on. Initally, we thought it may be due to the seat sensor & the car thinking that no one was in it so it was engaging the brake. However, the dealership says the seat sensor is fine. Now it is my understanding this may have to do with the auto start stop and the aux battery not fully charging which causes it to pull power from the main battery. There is no way to permanetly turn off the stop/start. By turning it off temporarily, it causes the aux battery to not charge but if I leave it on my car stalls when stopped. Ive taken it in at least twice when under warranty & they "could not replicate" the issue so it was never fixed. Now it's 3 months out of warranty and is stalling regularly - twice in the last week. They said they may try to get it covered under warranty since Ive brought it in multiple times before but they dont know. It is very unsafe to have the car stall when stopped. Im taking the car in today for them to look at it. Ive spoken to two dealerships and they both told me that this has been an on going problem they have seen on this car recently.
While attempting to accelerate from a stop on a slight incline the battery light came on and I was unable to move forward I was in drive pushing the accelerator but rolling backwards and the power steering stopped working. I put the Jeep in park turned it off and restarted but the same thing happened. After the third or fourth try the Jeep resumed normal operation.
At @45,000 miles the 4WD system unavailable service required message and svc 4WD message came on, then every time the Jeep was driven messages would come on. Dealer replaced the PTU. NHTSA has already had a recall on Jeep Cherokee PTU's, but only to model years 2017. I believe Jeep still has a problem with the PTU and the recall should be reexamined to include years to at least 2020.
Center dashboard Information Touch Screen is delaminating and causing erratic driveability issues (automatic transmission shifting and lurching at a stop) and most recently navigation mistakes
The knee air bag on the drivers side is partially hanging out of its compartment , despite never being in a wreck. The engine stalls out during take off ! The anti theft system keeps locking me out
Vehicle stalled when slowing to a stop prior to coming to a complete stop, power steering went out and loss of vehicle control almost causing wreck 7/15/22.
When stop/start feature is active and I have come to a stop typically engine turns off and back on within a few seconds. Lately if I do not take foot off break in time it will stall. After stall I am able to restart car.
Multiple times when moving the Jeep Cherokee in the driveway suddenly the parking brake engages by itself. Parking brake engages when in reverse backing up or after backing up then putting in drive. This happens never touching the emergency brake switch. The emergency engages on its own. I can turn off(disable) the emergency brake after it automatically engages. This has happened multiple times over the last 3 years after new purchase.
Front End Differential/PTU. Recall on many Jeeps except this year for the PTU. If system was to fail, cause the transmission to lock up causing a possible accident. Confirmed through a dealership garage, report about it is not in hand yet. But I can get it. Only noticed habit of it was turning the wheel and it would jump trying to turn. Brought to the dealership and confirmed the PTU and Differential Shaft.
Auto stop shuts off the whole car at a red light when trying to start back up it fails & automatically put emergency break on & leaves us stranded in the middle of traffic. It has happened a handful of times. Also, when the car is completely off & I start to start it up it girls the first time until I try a second time. The car also has trouble accelerating & shifting gears.
This vehicle was making rubbing noise when cornering at 50-60 mph, and a clunk when accelerating after a coast. The service department found fluid in PTU and the RDM was black, burnt, and full of metal shavings. They recommended to replace PTU, RDM, and some sway bar links. My research online indicates there has been a lot of PTU failures on Cherokees. I was at 61698 miles, just over the 60000 mile warranty and they refused to allow me a good will warranty repair as I was a "second owner". Quoted ~$4000 for repairs. I am a senior citizen, and I don't drive the car aggressively or go 4-wheeling.
Going to work cylinder number 2 piston and rings failed with 72k miles. When I proceeded to call the dealership for parts to have repaired they do not offer parts but a complete engine. The service Manager also proceeded to say they have one in the parking lot with the same scenario. I also did a search online and found another that has failed.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, the vehicle made abnormal sounds while driving. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced after an oil consumption test was performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,082.
Multiple times, my car's start/stop system has forced my car to shut down while at a stop light. After the hundredth time, I took it to the Jeep dealership. They did find that my car is burning oil and that was possibly the cause of it. They did a fresh oil change and had us watch the consumption and then bring it back in when it lost enough oil to qualify as low. I've burnt 3qt of oil in 2,000 miles! We were told that Chrysler said the acceptable range is 1qt every 1,000 miles. I'm over that, but Chrysler doesn't want to fix the issue.
Was driving on the interstate and power steering went out suddenly and vehicle became very hard to control and get off the road
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 2 MPH in a parking lot, the parking brake inadvertently engaged and stopped the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the vehicle needed the rear brakes and calipers to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated that the inadvertent parking brake activation had reoccurred. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22009 (Parking Brake). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
PTU failure just like 2014-2016 Cherokee Models
Stop/Start. The jeep will often stop while driving at any speeds, including top speed. It’s as if the stop/start has kicked in abruptly stopping my car as I’m driving. When this happens sometimes, not consistently, the stop/start light will come, or ye automatic brake lift even the motor light, When the situation occurs, I try to carefully pull over if I have not speed from coast to do so. Then I manually shut the ignition off and then re-start my jeep. The engine does not usually want to restart and sometimes takes several tries (as if it’s an old car in cold winter temps). I have even stalled while going through a highway intersection. Because I had just started accelerating when I stalled there was not enoug speed so I stopped in the middle of intersection. Luckily people were able to swerve. I have two friends with the same make, model and year office. Both have experienced the same issues once their vehicles reached 60,000-70,000 miles. Their dealer found the problem to be with the automatic break lock. Unfortunately because I have not completely broke down, dealers have been unable to diagnose my problem. This is a huge danger and hazard. I hope to hear this is a recall or update that will he resolved soon.
When originally took car home brakes would like skip, as though you had hit patch of ice and not stop, slip to stop. Took it in twice to dealer Nothing found wrong. I gave up. Around 25k still doing same but worse stopping ability. I took to fix it shelby twp mi they did inspection and said rotors on all 4 wheels were warped missing spots, like it had been skipping and eating tge rotors the pads had a good 30 percent life left. They had me replace all 4 pads and rotors June 20 2022.a weeks later I notice same skipping sliding not stopping correctly like metal grindingwhen stopping randomly.Less then 1.5 months later they replace front rotors and pads same problem. Shop is now wanting to replace calipers and more. Less then 35k . No accident trying to avoid looking to see recalls
I was driving on the highway with cruise engaged at 72 mph. I suddenly lost my power steering. Exited highway immediately to investigate the warning light on the dashboard. Turned the car off for about 3 minutes, but power steering did not reset. Limped the vehicle home where it sits today. Mileage of vehicle is 45050.
The past months I've have been having trouble with my 8.4 Uconnect radio. I was told by a jeep dealership that I need a new radio paying out of my money and another dealership, originally from where I purchase the vehicle, that they can't do anything to help me. The issue is the lamination on the touch screen is peeling and causes the radio to press its own buttons all the time. i cannot use apple car play, Bluetooth, navigation system, USB port, radio, maps, google maps without it going crazy. it takes me longer to get to places with maps and have unable to answer phone calls hands free. I have a 7-month baby that I constantly have in the car and would like to avoid potential accidents. there hasn't been any accidents
The Auto Start/Stop will power down at a Red Light and shut the car off completely. I will Have to restart the car at the red light to prevent this from happening. It has happened several times already.
While driving at 55mph. The vehicle shutoff and would not restart. Very dangerous to lose power at that speed. Engine light came on and stayed on. Vehicle would not restart. Engine codes read high voltage on PCM modules, brake modules, automatic transmission modules.
I was driving on a highway and the car completely shut down. there was no ability to start car back up using the power start or by pressing the start button. was unable to shift into neutral to move the car out of traffic, causing a jam. the car needed to be dragged onto a tow bed. took the car to jeep dealership to which no codes came up when they scanned it.
Svc 4wd light illuminated on instrument cluster. Brought the 2019 Jeep Cherokee in to the Jeep Dealership Service Department. I presented them with my extended warranty paperwork. Upon initial examination, the service department determined the PTU had a catastrophic failure and needs to be replaced. The warranty company sent an investigator out to ensure the repair was needed only to determine that it needs a teardown with digital images for $500.00 customer pocket to be sent to the underwriters to make an accurate determination. Previous Cherokee model years faced the same PTU failures and were covered by a Jeep Recall for faulty manufacturing.
The power steering in my vehicle went out while driving down a major road (speed limit 55 mph) with curves in the road. There were no warning lamps or symptoms of concern prior to the power steering going out causing the vehicle to lock up and the inability to turn or steer the vehicle. Then a “service power steering” light turned on. The vehicle is currently at Dodge Jeep Ram of Troy, AL waiting to be fixed. I was notified today, that the vehicle will need the power steering rack replaced.
The engine and electrical system will completely shut down while in drive and will not restart right away. This happens in the middle of intersections most often when attempting to make a turn. This has happened up to ten times and in the most recent occurrence the car would not restart at all in the middle of an intersection with our baby in the back seat on a hot day. We were stuck with no A/C and no ability to get the car to start until help arrived. The car was towed to a local JEEP dealership and they said it was due to the thermostat and battery which we replace but it has since happened again. In all occurrences, there were no warning signs before, during or after the engine/electrical failure. Additionally, they stated the ar may be overheating but all occurrences have happened in the first few minutes of driving with no indication of the vehicle being over temperature.
Vehicle will shutdown and stall with no warning primarily when coming to a stop. THE CONSUMER STATED THE 2019 JEEP CHEROKEE EQUIPPED WITH A 2.4L ENGINE HAS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE POWER TRAIN. THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL UA9/18V-739.
The 8.4" Uconnect screen in my Jeep Cherokee is delaminating. When this happens, the screen will eventually become unusable and I will not be able to access my radio, climate control, safety features, vehicle settings, etc. Additonally, the screen will randomly "click" on different things, meaning that it could, at any time, call SOS or 911. I am unable to use the screen at all while I am driving, so I have to pull over on busy highways to change a radio station or turn on the A/C. This is a widespread issue with vehicles that have this screen.
While driving any speed over 65 mph the hood though latched and closed will flutter. Any attempts at making hood adjustments have not worked, still continues to flutter.
