The Jeep has the auto start-stop system that turns off the engine when stopping for a prolonged amount of time but the car is still in drive. When I use this, the car often will lose all power when trying to restart and will take a moment before regaining power while I am at the stoplight. I also had a problem with the car starting in general. It will often lose power for a moment when starting. The battery is in good shape. It was just recently inspected while at an oil change. The battery is not the problem. The electrical system is (as I have read whilst doing research since this problem started).
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 4 MPH into a parking lot, the “Service 4WD” light illuminated and turned on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and a code for the PTU was retrieved. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The “Service 4WD” light was illuminated. Additionally, while driving, accelerating, or depressing the brake pedal, there was an abnormal whining sound coming from the vehicle. The driver inspected the vehicle but was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined the failure was associated with the PTU. The dealer determined that a diagnostic test was needed, and that there was no warranty coverage for the repair. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer for a Goodwill repair. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.
When vehicle is in idle mode it completely shuts off causing risk of a accident
Vehicle stalls while driving. Check oil light not alerting driver of low oil resulting in frequent stalls while driving or idle.
Svr 4x4 transmission issue
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to immediately accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitating while accelerating. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 19,000.
Extensive heat related damage to engine wiring harness, repaired at dealership due to no complete harness available.
Our dashboard displayed "CK 4WD " this morning. After checking the Jeep Cherokee manual we followed its urgent advice and immediately drove to a Jeep dealership fortunately nearby. While waiting, wanting to get a handle on what expense ws at hand I checked various YouTube and other internet posts, and became aware for the first time of recalls on previous years' Cherokee power case ( PTU's) . I asked for new part replacemet but the dealership parts manager said new parts were on "back order, "and could not say when the replacement could even be obtained. He said a "rebuilt" could be shipped from Florida and work completed by next Wedsday, a full week from today, 2-14-23. My car passed out of warranty a month ago, now at 61080. We are camping and home is about 900 miles from home now. Estimate on the job was $2397.03, but I believe the final bill will be a few hundred less because of the cheaper rebuilt part. The dealership gave us a ride back to the state park 8 miles away, where our camper is parked. The mechanic at the dealership said we shouldn't have pulled our 2500 lb camper trailer with the car, though Jeep had promoted the Cherokee with towing package we bought as rated good for 4500 lb., pretty far below the weight of a packed trailer. I'm only aware of a safety issue now described in the existing recall of where the tow vehicle could suddenly go into neutral and lose all power, meaning to me that our brakes and brake lights might suddenly not function which could be catastrophic even under light traffic, and unthinkable on any big city throughway. The dealership said they made several calls on our behalf to try to expedite getting a new part but only could get the rebuilt PTU. We really had few options.
Front driver side seat belt latch is not latching properly. Sometimes will lock and sometimes it won’t. The vehicle is 5 years old and Jeep will not cover under warranty.
Electronic steering warning light came on. While driving the steering wheel tightens then loosens. It has not been right since the recall was on it and it was taken and repaired.
Re: Safety Concerns Regarding Jeep Cherokee 2019 Engine Misfire To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to report a significant safety issue regarding my Jeep Cherokee 2019. I bought the car new and have always serviced it in the official dealer. Recently, my vehicle began to misfire while I was driving, which caused me to feel unsafe and concerned for my safety. Upon taking my vehicle to the dealership, I was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer service report showed that the cause of the issue was a P0302 cylinder 2 misfire code, and that the engine was misfiring. Additionally, the report indicated that there was only 75 psi compression on cylinder #2 and 40% cylinder leakage. My car had only slightly exceeded the mileage limit of the manufacturer's warranty, which was for 60,000 miles, at 60,800 miles. However, the warranty did not cover the cost of the engine replacement, which was approximately $13,000. This safety issue is concerning because the engine misfire could cause the vehicle to suddenly stall or lose power, which could result in a serious accident. Additionally, I am disappointed that the warranty did not cover the necessary repairs, and I was left to pay for such a significant expense for a vehicle that is only a few years old. Furthermore, the manufacturer has offered to pay only 50% of the cost of a new engine, which I do not believe is fair or reasonable. I request that the manufacturer reconsider its decision and replace the engine at no cost to me. I urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to investigate this safety issue with Jeep Cherokee 2019 engines to ensure that other drivers do not experience the same safety concerns. I believe that it is critical to ensure that vehicles are safe for drivers and passengers to operate. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while at a complete stop. The battery warning light and the check engine warning light were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to respond while accelerating. The traction control and check engine warning lights were illuminated. An unknown message was displayed. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed; however, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the vehicle was hesitating while starting. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V739000 (Power Train) because the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised as the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
Transfer Case assembly already needs to be replaced. The part has been on a nationwide back order and our vehicle has been in the shop for over 2 months. I’ve already read that this has been a recalled issue in earlier models.
I was stopped at a light and was pressing the gas to go forward. The electric parking brake turned itself on for no reason. I had to turn the car off and restart it while still at the light. fortunately i was not out in the oncoming traffic when this happened and also there was no one behind me at that time.
PTU blew out on the highway at 68mph. Loss of steering. PTU was replaced at a Jeep dealership and has also failed. I’m now having svc 4wd and ACC unavailable. This is unacceptable
Was driving 57mph when the jeep just stopped running. The battery light came on so I pushed the gas peddle to see if it was working it was not. Cars behind me traveling the same speed. Almost got rear-ended before I was Able to pull off the road. Car will not start now. makes a humming/buzzing noise.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle decelerated, lost motive power, and stalled. The contact stated that the oil and battery warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer that the vehicle was purchased. The Kia dealer was unable to diagnose the vehicle and determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then sent to an unknown Jeep dealer where the vehicle was awaiting diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that he observed a puddle of fluid on his driveway. The contact checked and found that there was a crack around the rear differential housing. The contact stated that the fluid was coming from the crack. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that there had been an impact that had caused the crack. The contact stated that neither he nor his wife had driven the vehicle and made any type of impact to cause a crack to the differential housing. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,100.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the inside of the front driver’s side door filled up with water while it was raining. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer stated that the cause of the failure was identifiable, but the result was not disclosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,200.
Power Transfer Unit Failure. Grinding and slipping. PTU accuator motor failure first, then slipping occured. Leaking oil from unit
3 Years ago a new motor and starter were put into my car. Now it won't start again and the dealership says the motor is blown again. They tell me that it is not covered under the warranty from the engine that was put in 3 years ago. How is that not covered. I now have a vehicle that I can't drive and no warranty on it and still have a loan on it. This needs to be fixed or covered. Please have someone call me as soon as possible. Thank you [XXX] [XXX] . A SVC4WD light started intermittently coming on. A message would follow on the dash that 4wd was unavailable. The diagnostic error code was C14A7-97 for the PTU. This vehicle has 90,000 miles and most of them highway. No off road or aggressive driving. Very concerned that PTU will fail at high rate of speed. Dealership will not acknowledge known PTU issues with model despite having 3 vehicles in for same repair. Extensive cost and part unavailable makes repair prohibitive immediately so very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway, the transmission went into neutral, and the check engine, traction control, and parking brake warning lights were illuminated. The contact proceeded to switch from all-wheel drive to auto and the vehicle shifted into reverse. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the failure was attributed to an incorrect gear ratio and that the vehicle could not be repaired because the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
MY JEEP HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. THE ENGINE STALLS OUT AND THE ENGINE MAKES A KNOCKING SOUND. THIS MORNING, 12/20/22, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND WENT TO SLOW DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT AND THE EMERGENCY BREAK ENGAGED AND THE JEEP STALLED OUT. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED. NOW THE JEEP IS DINGING AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT IS FLASHING SAYING" SERVICE PARK BREAK". . THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM REFUSES TO ASSIST ME ANYMORE AND I AM AT A LOSS.
Alternator went out, car doesn’t start at times, electrical issues as well as battery draining.
Service 4WD light keeps coming on.Took it to auto center for check. C14A7-97 error showing up. There is a problem with the Power Transfer Unit on 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2 V6 with 80,000 miles when first star. If the PTU fails to engage with the transmission, the Cherokee could lose all power while being driven. Also, a failure to engage could keep the vehicle from being put into park when stationary, allowing it to roll away. Either situation could result in a crash or injuries.
The power transfer unit (PTU), an important element of the optional all-wheel-drive system in affected vehicles may not be able to maintain a connection between the transmission and the front wheels. If the PTU fails to engage with the transmission, the Cherokee could lose all power while being driven. Also, a failure to engage could keep the vehicle from being put into park when stationary, allowing it to roll away. Either situation could result in a crash or injuries. I was informed by the dealership that the part is on an undermined backorder due to this being a common issue. Fortunately the failure occurred just prior to the expiration of the powertrain warranty.
My air bag light keeps coming on staying the air bag sensor is off.Thst could cause a major problem if I were to be involved in an accident. My transmission is jarring bad feeling like I've been hit. This scares me every time it jars. This could cause problems in any situation involving me mashing the gas because there is a delay in aerating.have spoken to my dealership about these problems.
Brake Booster leak. Yes safety could have been at risk if I didn’t take it to the dealer myself since there was NO notifications saying there was a problem. I took it in because brake was stiff and car wouldn’t start when cold outside. This was confirmed at Chrysler dealership it was a leaky brake booster. Car is only a 2019 with 20,000 miles. Dealership wants to charge me $1295! Also had to take this car in on the same day because stop/start wasn’t working properly & dealership told me I needed new sensor for $365. This shouldn’t be happening to a 2019 with 20,000 miles. Please look into it and let me know if this brake booster can be put on the recall list so I can recoup my hard earned money back. Thank you!
The vehicle shakes and pulls Riverside auto marinette Wisconsin said 2600.00 to fix the rack and pinion
The vehicle would overcharge in which made the vehicle loss all power, lighting, and steering control. U had to come to a complete stop and restart the vehicle which would put it into limp mode and not handle properly
I have problem with my ac stop work after next day i went to change my oil on the dealer , now work and stop work , they said i need to pay 100 for let me know what is the problem , also the star/stop not work for long time ago .
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic, where the contact purchased a new battery and had the battery replaced. After the battery replacement, the failure recurred with the messages "Service Stop/Start System" and "Check Engine" displayed. The failure persisted with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced. The mechanic also replaced the transfer case and the rear differential. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The electronic parking brake error system keeps coming on while I am driving. The warning lights come on for no apparent reason. Once, when I was about to start up, and about to drive, the parking brake slammed on violently. This has not happened while I am driving. Just the error and warning lights have come on while driving. The dashboard engine light comes on. I get an error P0973. Shift Solenoid A Control Circuit Low.
The engine dies without warning while driving and it's burning gas much more than usual. Car has been brought back to dealer with no lasting remedy. One dealer blamed it on a built-in function which causes the engine to stop if the oil level is low so that the engine doesn't burn up, but the oil level was fine. Another dealer said the it was the "auto on/off" function that is controlled by a separate battery that could be bad or the switch that controls the "auto on/off" function, but did not fix it.
My car shut off in the middle of transit. After multiple attempts to restart the car, and “jump the battery” with car cables, it was unsuccessful in starting the car. The car was towed to a dealership, and it was determined that a battery was needed. After picking up the car and driving off the lot, I noticed that 1) a dashboard indicator light (“service shifter”) was on—and would not go off, 2) I have lost access to my back up camera, 3) All of my gear shift lights are on, and will not go off. My car is unsafe to drive because: (A) I do not have visibility of my digital speedometer, making it difficult to concentrate on driving and taking the time to attempt/be accurate with the analog needles hinders concentration and focus on driving within the speed limits. (B) My back up camera is disabled, making it near impossible to determine proper parking distances from other vehicles, and oncoming traffic, and individuals. (C) It is impossible to know what gear I am in because all of the lights on the gear shift are on. This poses a serious danger while attempting to properly navigate the vehicle in any direction.
November of 2022 my husband and I were traveling to visit his sister and tried to use the navigation system. It would not work, kept flipping back to the radio. When we tried to plug in our iphone and use car play to use Google Maps, the screen really went crazy, going back and forth between iheart radio and saved channels there and the maps and radio - making the navigation system and screen worthless.

Yes - currently at Lithia Jeep in Bend, OR where another Jeep is in for the same safety issue and has been deemed unsafe to drive while waiting for a new PTU to come in. 4WD Service light was on.
When stopped at multiple ref lights having my foot on the break pedal the car suddenly accelerates on its own and stays at 2000 rpms. This does not go away and the car must be put in park and turned off for the issue to stop.
At 35,000 miles the vehicle started vibrating when applying the brakes brought it in for service and I was told that the rotors are warped but brake pads are like brand new they said. Dealership said the brake rotors should be good for 70,000 miles but the factory installed defective rotors now they want me to pay for a complete brake job at $600 do you know what state it that a lot of customers are coming in with this problem why should we be burdened with it? It’s their mistake, and it should be rectified.
Vehicle auto stop/start malfunctioning. Vehicle has shut off while driving. Vehicle has shut off while coming to a stop. Vehicle fails to start with auto stop/start feature. Vehicle currently won’t start.
I bought this car end of July 2022, around 31,000 miles from a Jeep dealer. Within weeks I began receiving alerts on my dash that the 4WD needed to be serviced as well as the start/stop function. Dealer had my car in Sept for almost two weeks. Today, something flashed on my screen stating electric failure and it completely shut down. Nothing will turn on. It had to be drug up onto the tow truck as it could not be placed into neutral. Upon reviewing online resources, this appears to be an issue with this year/model, often happening while the car is in motion. This is terrifying! I have owned two Dodge Journeys and am currently leasing a wrangler. I have been a long time Dodge/Jeep customer and am terrified to drive this vehicle! If I could hand the keys back I would. The service center at the dealership said that they “should” be able to look at my car next week- just to look at it!
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while in for a routine oil change it was discovered that oil was leaking from the rear main seal. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who confirmed the leak and indicated that the rear main seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000.
The alarm of "4WD system not available. Service required" is shown in the panel. Went to my Jeep dealer and check the issue. After revision they said that the problem is with the PTU that needs to be replaced. Checking in Internet, found that problems with the PTU is a recurring issue with the jeep cherokee. I found a recall for this problem and my VIN is not included, but the safety problem is there. I would really appreciate if you can help with this matter. Thank you.
While driving, my car had a service light come on that said "4WD System Unavailable Service Required" meaning my 4WD randomly stopped working, my transmission has also randomly been slipping. My car was purchased from a dealer, brand new, with 16 miles on it- several which I put on it while test driving. I have had nothing but trouble with it since purchasing and now at 74,3XX miles on it, I am yet again having issues. When codes were ran, it came up as a Drive Train Control Module code and says PTU- Motor- Component or System Obstructed or Blocked. The dealership told me the cost would be at least $2,200 to fix the issue and the part is backordered which makes me think I'm not the only one having this issue. I cannot afford to keep fixing the random things that happen to my car that should not be happening to a vehicle that was purchased brand new and has been gently used. There are recalls for this same issue on other VIN numbers of this vehicle, I feel like there should be more recalls issued.
Problem with Transfer Case, Transmission, code C14A7 PTU, I had my engine replaced a couple of years ago due to excessive oil consumption. I am currently going through oil checks again due to excessive oil consumption.
power steering went out while driving down the interstate at 70 MPH. The dealership said that the rack and pinnon had to be replaced. The Jeep has less than 60,000 miles on it. This is unacceptable for a product of this expense and quality.
The PTU on my 2019 jeep Cherokee trailhawk failed at 53k miles. That is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve never even used 4 low or the locking rear differential before. The trailhawks have had these ptu issues for quite some time. You would think Jeep would have come up with a way to make the ptu stronger and more durable so owners aren’t having these issues. I’m glad mine was covered under warranty. If it wasn’t I would’ve paid around $4500 out of pocket to get it fixed. Jeep needs to issue an extended warranty on the whole powertrain system for the 2019 trailhawks or newer. They already issued a recall on previous years for the ptu.
6/15/2020 24793 miles, while driving battery light came on jeep stalled. Started back up and while accelerating battery light came again and stalled. Took to Jeep dealership, they said batter had low charge. 6/3/21 31567 miles start/stop light came on . Tech found nothing 8/25/21 33881 miles check engine light came on Electronic throttle body control system replaced by Jeep, had to pay out of pocket !!! 10/27/21 35278 miles while slowing down door chime went off battery light came on and Jeep stalled. Tried starting back up it was hesitating finally started would happen randomly. Tech not able to duplicate 6/29/22 40866 miles Vehicle does not accelerate at all different speeds, same issues as before, Jeep relearned ETC Under warranty from 8/2021 replacement. 7/5/22 40959 miles while driving vehicle does not accelerate properly gas peddle to the floor speed does not go up but rpm’s at 4000, has to pull over several times and restart vehicle. Jeep could not duplicate 9/16/22 43500 miles vehicle was not accelerating would not go over 40, rpm’s going over 4000 , making loud engine sounds, stabilization light came on along with message 4wd not in service. Jeep said they couldn’t duplicate issue. Will hold overnight. Still awaiting answer. This is a major safety issue, putting me or whoever is driving along with passengers at risk, if vehicle isn’t accelerating not able to go on highways, driving is limited due to not knowing what to expect. Driving through intersections very risky, have to make sure no one is anywhere near to being close because I don’t know if I will get out of the way On time! Jeep dealership aware of the issue, since they replaced throttle body in 8/2021. But I believe all of the symptoms from the beginning are all linked to this issue. Stalling is a major safety issue. I bought a new car for safety reasons, to be reliable on a new car. Unfortunately I am not safe nor do I feel this car is reliable!
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was at a complete stop at a traffic light, the vehicle failed to shift into the intended gear and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed; however, the failure reoccurred while at another complete stop. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to respond while driving from a complete stop. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
