ENGINE STALLED WHILE STARTING TO DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE. WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART VEHICLE AND MOVE OUT OF THE TRAFFIC LANE AND FULLY INTO THE PARKING SPOT. SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON A SHORT TEST DRIVE. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LTD HAD PROBLEMS WITH LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP ON 08/17/06, AND THEY REPLACED THE IDLE CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HASN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH LOSING POWER UNTIL 3-9-07. SHE STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE RADIO STAYED ON AND NOTHING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER, AND WILL SUBMIT THE CASE NUMBER FROM CHRYSLER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9800.*AK
I TOOK MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER TO MY LOCAL DEALER WHERE I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IT TO GET THE STALLING PROBLEM FIXED. FIVE DAYS LATER THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOW SOLVED (AUGUST 24,2007) FINALLY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY PUT IN A NEW PROGRAM THAT WOULD FIX THE JEEP FROM JUST LOSING POWER. AUGUST 25 SATURDAY MORNING AT 8:13 WHILE AT AN INTERSECTION THE JEEP JUST DIED AGAIN. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE WINDSHIELD BREAKING EASILY. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE BREAKING WINDSHIELD COULD BE RELATED TO THE INPROPER FITTING OF THE WINDSHIELD WHICH RESULTS IN A LOUD NOISE BEING HEARD INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WON'T FIX THE SEAL PROBLEM BECAUSE MY JEEP HAS TWO CRACKS ON IT. I SAID "IF YOU HAD FIXED THE WINDSHIELD SEAL PROBLEM THE FIRST 3 TIMES I BROUGHT IT IN WE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM'. NO PROBLEMS HAVE YET TO BE SOLVED. ANCIRA DEALERSHIP IN SAN ANTONIO,TX. MANY JEEP OWNERS ARE PURCHASING MULTIPLE WINDSHIELDS AT $385 A POP. THE DEALER TRIED TO SAY IT'S JUST ME UNTIL I POINTED OUT ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS IN WRITING WITH ALL DIFFERENT VIN NUMBERS AND EVEN SHOWED HER THE RENTAL CAR (JEEP COMMANDER) WHICH ALSO HAD A CRACKED WINDSHIELD. SHE'S CONVINCED TOO. *TR
BRAND NEW 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 3 WEEKS OLD. I WAS GETTING OFF THE EXPRESS WAY ON A CURVE AND MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND STEERING LOCKED UP ALMOST DROVE OFF THE ROAD WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS AND THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY, ITS A RISK TO MY FAMILY. I THINK SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I DID MY RESEARCH AND I NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO I CAN NOT BE FIXED. HELP! *JB
ON THREE OCCASIONS (JULY 22, AUG. 2, AUGUST 14) MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER HAS STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THESE INCIDENTS ALL OCCURRED WHILE I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP. ON TWO OF THE OCCASION I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP ON AN INCLINE. WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURS THE POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF AND THE ENGINE STOPS. THE AUTOMOBILE RESTARTS AFTER THE TRANSMISSION IS PUT IN PARK. THE DEALER INDICATES THAT THE ON-BOARD COMPUTER DETECTS NO FAILURES AND THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE INCIDENT. *NM
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF!!!! TOOK IT IN AND THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WE ARE TAKING IT INTO THE DEALER TOMORROW. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPAIRED BY A GLASS SHOP FIVE TIMES BECAUSE OF A CHIP IN THE GLASS. THE WINDSHIELD WAS ALSO REPLACED ONCE DUE TO A CRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURES. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE WINDSHIELD MAKES A WHISTLING SOUND. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 21,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
I PURCHASED 2006 JEEP COMMANDER DEC '06. HAD CONTINUOUS ISSUES W/THE PERFORMANCE -SERVICE DEPT CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. APPROX THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, I WAS PULLING OFF FROM A PARKING SPACE -CAR CUT OFF COMPLETELY. I ASSUMED THAT I HIT THE GEAR OR DIDN'T HAVE COMPLETELY ENGAGED. B/C A NEW CAR, I THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE BUT NOT A REAL ISSUE. IN AUG '06, TAKING MY CAR IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, BACKING UP IN THE DEALERSHIP LOT & THE CAR CUT OFF COMPLETELY. ADDED THE REQUEST TO HAVE THE ISSUE CHECKED. I EXPLAINED THIS WASN'T THE 1ST TIME THE CAR CUT OFF AND THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM. WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING FOUND. IN SEPT '06, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC - MY CAR CUT OFF COMPLETELY. I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE HAZARD LIGHTS TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS THE 3RD TIME THAT THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, AND SOMETHING NEEDED TO BE DONE. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE SITUATION AND WAS ASKED TO PICK UP MY CAR. I TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT I WAS NOT PICKING UP MY CAR UNTIL SOMETHING WAS DONE. MY CAR CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING! THAT IS NOT SAFE. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL I AM IN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT TO SAY SEE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED THAT THEY CONTACTED THE STAR HOTLINE AND REPLACED THE PCM AND INSTALLED A CONTROL PROGRAM. I HAVE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE STALLING AND HESITATION WHILE DRIVING BUT THE CAR HAS NOT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, NOR PASS OTHER VEHICLES. I FEEL TOTALLY VULNERABLE THAT THE COMMANDER WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. DURING MY LAST SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE 1/31/07, I INFORMED THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT I AM STILL EXPERIENCING HESITATION/STALLING. THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO SET UP A TIME TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE FOR OVERNIGHT ROAD TEST. *NM
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC, MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER HAS STALLED. JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND SHUT OFF. NO WARNING SIGNS PROCEEDED THE SHUT OFF AND IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED UP AGAIN. IT WAS ANNOYING TO SAY THE LEAST CONSIDERING IT'S A BRAND NEW VEHICLE, ONLY 3500 MILES ON IT. BUT IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS IT COULD OBVIOUSLY RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. *NM
JEEP COMMANDER STALLS AT STOP SIGNS. *JB
I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 JEEP COMMANDER BACK IN DECEMBER 2005. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FOR SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. WANTED SOMETHING SAFE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN IN. WELL SAFETY IS OUT THE WINDOW. MY JEEP COMMANDER HAS NOW STALLED AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING NINE TIMES!!!!! WHETHER DRIVING OR GOING INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE....THE CAR WILL COMPLETELY STALL AND SHUT DOWN...AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS THERE IS NO POWER STEERING, NO LIGHTS, NO NOTHING! IT HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALER 4 TIMES WITH NO ELECTRICAL CODES REGISTERED AND WHEN THEY DRIVE IT THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM! I AM AT WITS END NOW BECAUSE JUST TODAY IT HAPPENED WITH MY SON IN THE CAR! THE RESULTS IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC FOR ME AND MY SON OR FOR SOME OTHER INNOCENT PERSON WHO DOES NOT EXPECT A CAR TO STOP DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED ON THREE OCCASIONS. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED DURING ACCELERATION WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENTS AND THE VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS RESTARTING. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
FRONT WINDSHIELD SEEMS TO BE EASILY DAMAGED. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ANOTHER PEBBLE BUT WHEN IT HAPPEN AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY NEIGHBORHOOD STREET I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I THINK THE PROBLEMS I'M HAVING WITH A WHISTLING NOISE THAT'S HEARD WHILE DRIVING WHICH POINTS TO A SEAL PROBLEM ARE ASSOCIATED. WHEN A WINDSHIELD IS NOT PROPERLY FITTED IT CAN LEAD TO THE GLASS BEING MORE SENSITIVE TO DAMAGE. MY DEALER WOULD NOT FIX THE SEAL UNTIL I REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD UNTIL I POINTED OUT THEY ARE ASSOCIATED. *TR
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LT WITH A 5.7 LITER V8 ON JULY 24, 2006. FOUR DAYS LATER WE WENT ON A ROAD TRIP FROM WASHINGTON DC TO BOSTON, MA. JUST OUTSIDE NEW YORK CITY, THE COMMANDER STALLED (WENT DEAD, NO POWER BRAKES, STEERING) IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. SCARED US BOTH. MANAGED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION AND STARTED THE COMMANDER AND CONTINUED DRIVING. THE COMMANDER HAD LESS THAN 800 MILES ON IT. WE CALLED THE DEALER. THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN WHEN WE GOT BACK. THE NEXT DAY ON OUR WAY BACK HOME WE STOPPED IN A JEEP DEALERSHIP IN MYSTIC CONN. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND CAME UP WITH 2 CODES P1684 AND P0884. THEY CLEARED THE HISTORY, TESTED AGAIN AND FOUND NOTHING. WE TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY JULY 31. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON AUGUST 15TH, 2006. THE COMMANDER NOW HAS 1350 MILES AND IS BACK IN THE SHOP AND THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. WE CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE TO LODGE A COMPLIANT, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT HE HAD NOT EVER HEARD THAT THERE WAS A STALLING PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 COMMANDERS. MY WIFE IS AFRAID THAT THE COMMANDER WILL STALL AGAIN AND CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND KILL SOMEONE INCLUDING US. WE BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND OTHERS ACCORDING TO OTHERS ON JEEPFORUM.COM. *NM
ON JULY 28, 2006 I HAD PLACE THE JEEP IN REVERSE AND THE PARKING ASSIST NEVER PICKED UP MY 2004 CHEVY AVALANCHE PARKED BEHIND ME IN THE DRIVE WAY. CAUSING THE JEEP TO BACK INTO THE AVALANCHE. JEEP WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REVIEW, FOUND NOTHING WRONG BY THEIR COMPUTER TEST. JEEP WAS CONTACTED AND A ADJUSTOR CAME AND RAN THE SAME TEST IN AUGUST, HE STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE PARKING ASSIST. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD THE JEEP IN FOR NORMAL SERVICE (OIL CHANGE), THEY HAVE FOUND A CODE IN THE COMPUTER FOR ERRORS WITH THE SENSOR. JEEP HAS STATED THEY WILL NOT REVIEW THE CASE AGAIN UNTIL I HAVE THE DAMAGE REPAIRED. SENSOR IS GOING OFF EVERYTIME THE JEEP IS IN REVERSE WHETHER SOMETHING IS BEHIND IT OR NOT. *NM
THE VEHICLE DASH SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL AND STALLS. *TR
1ST OCCURRENCE OF THE STALLING/DYING: 7/23/06. VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT A SLOW SPEED MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER (NO RESPONSE WHEN PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE POWER STEERING ALSO FAILED). DRIVER HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK FROM DRIVE, TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN BACK TO THE START POSITION. THE 2ND OCCURRENCE WAS ON 8/9/06 12:30 PM. AT A STOPLIGHT ON A HILL WAITING TO TURN LEFT. THE LIGHT TURNED, THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER ACCELERATED AND WHEN DRIVER TOOK HER FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE TO APPLY THE GAS AND THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS. AFTER THIS OCCURRENCE, DRIVER CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH A SVC ADVISOR. DRIVER DESCRIBED THE SYMPTOMS AND THEY SAID THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING ON SOME OTHER COMMANDERS AND THAT THEY KNEW THE PART THAT TYPICALLY FIXED IT. DRIVER MADE APPT TO BRING IN FOR SERVICE. VEHICLE DROPPED OFF 8/10/06. CALL FROM SVC DEPT. 8/11/2006 AND STATED TECH TESTED FOUND A BAD MAP SENSOR. THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR AND SAID THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE RESOLVED. THE 3RD OCCURRENCE HAPPENED ON 8/15/06 7:40 AM. DRIVER WAS STOPPED WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ONTO HIGHWAY 212 FROM 222ND DRIVE. AT THIS POINT, DRIVER CALLED DEALERSHIP AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A SERVICE ADVISER AND SAID SHE WOULD BE BRINGING THE VEHICLE BACK IN AS IT WASN'T FIXED. THE 4TH OCCURRENCE HAPPENED 8/15/06 5:50 PM WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY 217 DRIVING TO THE NORTHWEST JEEP DEALERSHIP. DRIVER WAS IN SLOW RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC- 5-10 PH. DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC AND THE CAR JUST CONTINUED TO COAST WITH NO ACCELERATION. SHE HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, START THE CAR AGAIN AND THEN STOP ON THE HIGHWAY TO PUT CAR BACK INTO DRIVE. *NM
VEHICLE HAS STALLED TWICE DURING OPERATION NEARLY CAUSING SEVERE ACCIDENTS. ONCE WHILE EXCITING OFF RAMP OF FREEWAY AT AROUND 40 MPH AND ONCE WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. WITH NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES EITHER SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY, WE WERE JUST LUCKY THAT THE DRIVERS AROUND US WERE ALERT AND WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND GET AWAY SAFELY. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR AND FRIGHTENED US ALL. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP, THE DEALER MENTIONED NO KNOWN PROBLEMS. I CAME HOME AND DID A QUICK WEB SEARCH AND FOUND SEVERAL POSTINGS ON VARIOUS WEB SITES STATING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME ONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY AS A RESULT OF THIS. WHERE IS THE RECALL? *JB
I LIVE IN CANADA BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHO TO CONTACT UP HERE. I HAVE A NEW 2006 JEEP COMMANDER (3000 KMS). THIS TRUCK HAS NOW STALLED TWICE ON THE FREEWAY WHILE TRAVELING IN EXCESS OF 100 KM/H. BOTH TIMES, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GOES TO ZERO AND I LOSE ALL POWER TO BRAKES AND STEERING. THE 2ND TIME ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH WITH MY WIFE AND 1 YEAR OLD IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT IT TWICE NOW: THE FIRST TIME THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE AND THE SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION STATING THEY "HOPED" IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM BUT WERE NOT 100%. I'VE READ ALL KINDS OF COMPLAINTS SURROUNDING THIS ISSUE ON VARIOUS WEBSITES SO THERE ARE DEFINITELY OTHER PEOPLE BEING IMPACTED. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 2 1/2 WEEKS AGO. I HAVE HAD IT INTO SERVICE TWICE FOR THE ANNOYING WHISTLE THAT APPEARS TO BE COMMON ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT APPARENTLY HARD TO FIX. WHILE I WAS DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET INTO THE WHISTLING PROBLEM, I KEPT READING ABOUT ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT SOME COMMANDER OWNERS WERE HAVING. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE SERVICE MANAGER AND I TOOK IT OUT TO REPRODUCE THE WHISTLE. I BROUGHT THE OTHER CONCERN TO HIS ATTENTION AND HE TRIED, AND SUCCESSFULLY, RECREATED THE PROBLEM ABOUT 4 TIMES. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY BUT BARELY, TAP THE KEY THE CAR SHUTS OFF. THIS REQUIRES THE DRIVER, IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING AT THE TIME, TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON. SO POTENTIALLY, A PERSON COULD BE DRIVING ON A MULTI-LANE HIGHWAY, DOING 55-65 MPH, AND ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE KEY WITH THEIR KNEE. THIS WOULD SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER WOULD THEN, WHILE AVOIDING DRIVING INTO OTHER LANES AND BEING REAR ENDED DUE TO THE CAR DRASTICALLY LOOSING SPEED, HAVE TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I MAKE IT CLEAR, THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED YET TO ME, BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS ABLE TO RECREATED THIS WHILE WE WERE SITTING IN TRAFFIC AT A RED LIGHT. HE SEEMED TO BE QUITE STUNNED, AND SAID HE WAS CALLING JEEP THAT DAY TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. HE ALSO SAW THIS AS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I AM TRYING TO BE PRO-ACTIVE IN THIS COMPLAINT, BRINGING THE PROBLEM TO OTHERS ATTENTION BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAS TO OCCUR, PERHAPS WITH TRAGIC RESULTS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS RUST ON THE BASE OF THE FRONT SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DECLARED ALL JEEP COMMANDERS RUST IN THAT MANNER AND DID NOT PROVIDE ANY SOLUTION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, A PLASTIC BAG, (IN EXAMPLE, LIKE ONE FROM WALMART OR WINN DIXIE) WRAPPED AROUND THE REAR AXLE AND BROKE THE PINION SEAL AND FLUID LEAKED OUT CAUSING INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THIS RESULTED IN REPLACING THE REAR END. THIS VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN ONE THOUSAND MILES AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT. IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING ATTACHED TO YOUR KEY CHAIN SUCH AS OTHER KEYS THAT DANGLE DOWN, THEN ALL IT TAKES IS FOR YOU TO MOVE YOUR KNEE TO THE RIGHT THEREBY KNOCKING THE KEY CHAIN WITH THE DANGLING KEYS WHICH WILL IN TURN MOVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION, BASICALLY SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE WHILE YOU ARE DOING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. TURN SIGNALS HAVE 4 MODES RIGHT TURN OR LEFT TURN - MOVING SWITCH "FULLY-UP" OR "FULLY-DOWN" LOCKS IT INTO A "RIGHT" OR "LEFT" MODE UNTIL CANCELLED RIGHT LANE CHANGE OR LEFT LANE CHANGE - MOVING THE SWITCH "PARTIALLY-UP" OR "PARTIALLY-DOWN" AGAINST A DETENT SIGNALS A LANE CHANGE TO THE "RIGHT" OR "LEFT" THAT IS IMMEDIATELY CANCELLED UPON RELEASE CONDITIONS EXIST WHERE THE LEFT LANE CHANGE MODE DOES NOT ACTIVATE. THIS WAS REPORTED AND THE CONDITIONS TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION WERE DEMONSTRATED. THE DEALER AGREED THAT THE SWITCH SHOULD NOT BEHAVE IN THE MANNER DEMONSTRATED AND ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE BY REPLACING THE SWITCH. ON DELIVERY, THE TURN SIGNAL STILL MALFUNCTIONED UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER A SECOND TIME. THE DEALER RESEARCHED THE ISSUE BY RECREATING THE CONDITIONS ON OTHER VEHICLES ON THE LOT AND DETERMINED THAT THE CONDITION IS INTRINSIC TO THE DESIGN OF THE SWITCH AND RELATES A DESIGN FAULT IN THE SWITCH AND NOT A BAD PART. ONE GENERALLY ACTIVATES THE SIGNAL WITH ONES HANDS STILL ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THEREFORE, PUSHING DOWN TO ACTIVATE THE LEFT LANE CHANGE MODE, AS APPLIED WITH THE INDEX OR MIDDLE FINGER, CREATES BOTH A "DOWNWARD" AND "FORWARD" FORCE ON THE STALK DUE TO THE ANGLE OF APPLICATION. WHEN APPLIED, THAT IS A "DOWNWARD" FORCE TO ACTIVATE THE LEFT LANE CHANGE SIGNAL MODE ALONG WITH A "FORWARD" FORCE AS ONE WOULD EXPECT BASED ON THE ANGLE OF APPLICATION, THE LEFT LANE CHANGE SIGNAL MODE FAILS THE OPERATE BECAUSE THE CONTACT IN THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH LIFTS OFF ITS MATING CONTACT AND OPENS THE CIRCUIT. I HAVE GONE THROUGH THE MOTIONS TO ACTIVATE THE LEFT LANE CHANGE SIGNAL MODE, THINKING THAT IT HAD ACTIVATED, ONLY TO FIND THAT THE SIGNAL DID NOT OPERATE AS IT SHOULD HAVE. THIS POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AS OTHER MOTORISTS ARE NOT ALERTED TO MY INTENTIONS AND MAY NOT COMPENSATE FOR MY INTENDED LANE CHANGE AND ALSO SUBJECTS ME TO A VIOLATION OF MY STATE VEHICLE CODE. *JB
A NUMBER OF TIMES WE HAVE HAD A TEMPORARY BUT A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE IN THE SAME SPOT IN THE SAME ROAD. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED AFTER A COLD START, WITH ME DRIVING. ABOUT 20 MINUTES AGO I WAS DRIVING SHERI AND MYSELF BACK HOME FROM AN APPOINTMENT AND WENT TO PULL OUT OF A TEE JUNCTION-, ROSSWAY ROAD AND THE ROAD WAS WET, I DABBED THE THROTTLE AND PULLED OUT GENTLY, UNFORTUNATELY A CADILLAC CAME OVER THE BROW OF THE HILL TRAVELING FAST AND STAMPED ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE OUT OF THE WAY- NOPE HE REFUSED TO MOVE, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS, FLAT TO THE FLOOR- ZERO JUST MIN POWER, AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE 1 SECONDS IT PICKED UP- FULL THROTTLE ? WENT SIDEWAYS SPINNING THE TIRES AND WAS AT THAT POINT ON THE SHOULDER- IT THEN LEFT OFF UP THE ROAD LIKE A DRAG CAR- 5000+RPM. NOW THE SCARY BIT, SUCH A MANEUVER SHOULD HAVE TURNED THE ESP LIGHT ON AT LEAST, NOTHING, I'VE GOT TO TELL YOU AT THIS POINT I AM DONE WITH THIS THING. I JUST CALLED CHRIS XXX AT THE DEALERSHIP AND HE SAYS THAT HE CAN?T DO ANYTHING FOR ME EXCEPT CALL DCC AND A LAWYER- HE NEEDS TO HEAR FROM THEM WHAT TO DO. BUT HE SAYS AS THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES STORED HE WILL HAVE NO DATA TO WORK WITH ANYWAY. I?M ON HOLD WITH DCC NOW AND I?M ON HOLD WAITING TO TALK TO THE NEXT DEPT? VEHICLE, JEEP COMMANDER, 2006 TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE HAD AN INSTANTANEOUS TOTAL LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE SHUT DOWN, ALL GAUGES WENT TO ZERO, LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER, LOST POWER STEERING CONTROL, AND POWER BRAKES, VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT ACROSS LANE OF TRAFFIC AND CAME TO A STOP IN THE MEDIAN. THIS WAS A NEAR-MISS I DON'T KNOW WHICH COMPONENT FAILED. *JB UPDATED 05/04/06
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT AND WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL ON OCCASION. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2006. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER AND THEY WILL REPLACE THE EGR VALVE TO SEE IF THIS WILL CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WINDSHIELD EASILY CRACKS. DOOR HANDLES IS WOBBLY AND THEN CRACKS AND FALLS OUT OF PANEL. *TR
