TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 5,000. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR TWO DAYS. WHEN THE CONTACT RETURNED TO HIS VEHICLE IT WAS FLOODED WITH WATER FROM THE RAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN LOOKED AT BY A DEALER.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF IF THE KEY WAS TOUCHED OR STRUCK. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY RESTART BY COMING TO A STOP AND SHUTTING IT OFF. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,600 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,756.
ENGINE STALLED TWICE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION CAUSING THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. THIS LED TO A LOSS OF CONTROL THAT REQUIRED THE VEHICLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. *JB
THE "SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM" LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER 7-8 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE COMPLAINED TO JEEP. I BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY PERFORM WHATEVER NEW FIX THEY CONJURE UP AND IT SOMETIMES WILL STOP FOR A WEEK OR TWO THEN COME RIGHT BACK ON, IT ONCE CAME BACK ON WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALER. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WITH THE SAME VEHICLE WHO HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM HAS READ FAULTY TIRE PRESSURES AS WELL THAT COME AND GO AND CAN CHANGE DRAMATICALLY IN JUST 5 MINUTES. I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING ON MY SPARE DUE TO A LOW PRESSURE READING AND WHEN I WENT TO PUT AIR IN MY TIRE, I TRIED TO UNSCREW THE PLASTIC ON THE VALVE AND HALF THE VALVE CRACK OFF. I NOW HAVE THE SPARE ON AND WHILE A PORTABLE TIRE GAUGE READS 35 THE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE CAR READS 19. *TR
WINDSHIELD STARTED CRACKING FROM TOP EDGE ON PASSENGER SIDE, ABOUT 5 INCHES FROM THE SIDE, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NO EVIDENCE OF A CHIP AND NO ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD AS FAR AS WE KNOW. THIS HAPPENED ON A RENTAL CAR SO IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THE CRACK WAS ALREADY STARTED WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR AND WE DIDN'T SEE IT - THERE'S A SMALL PORTION OF THE GLASS THAT IS BLACK AT THE TOP SO WE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE THE CRACK IN THIS AREA IF IT WAS ALREADY THERE. THE CRACK SPREAD DOWN A COUPLE OF INCHES FROM THE BLACK AREA AND THEN STARTED ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
2007 JEEP COMMANDER - CAR STALLED AT A DRIVING INTERSECTION. POWER WENT OUT, AND HAD TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO TURN OVER THE ENGINE W/ NO LUCK. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR. *JB THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY CHECK THE COMPUTER AND DROVE IT 5 MILES, AND SAID THEY CANNOT DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED IT.
I AM A CERTIFIED CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY TECHNICIAN. I ATTEMPTED AN INSTALL OF TWO BRITAX MARATHON CHILD RESTRAINTS (FORWARD-FACING) INTO THE OUTBOARD SECOND-ROW SEATING POSITIONS OF A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE HEADRESTS IN THOSE SEATING POSITIONS SLANT FORWARD AND DO NOT ALLOW THE CHILD RESTRAINTS TO LAY FLAT AGAINST THE VEHICLE SEAT BACK. THE HEADRESTS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE REMOVED AND WILL NOT FOLD BACK (IF REMOVED, TWO METAL SPIKES STICK OUT VERTICALLY FROM THE VEHICLE SEAT BACK). I BELIEVE THIS ARRANGEMENT MAY BE THE CAUSE OF INCORRECT FORWARD-FACING CHILD SEAT INSTALLATIONS IN 100% OF ATTEMPTS IN THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT OTHER JEEP MODELS HAVE THE SAME HEADREST SETUP. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER TECHNICAL QUESTIONS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLS WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. USUALLY AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING INSPECTED BY THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,800.
I JUST LEASED A 2007 JEEP CHEROKEE IN MARCH OF '07. AND, IT DRIVES WONDERFULLY! HOWEVER, I'VE NOTICED A FEW (GLITCHES) CONCERNS LATELY WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE MAJOR LEAKS IN MY SIDE RAILS RIGHT ABOVE THE DASHBOARD WHEN IT RAINS. I BELIEVE THIS IS BECAUSE OF HOW THE INSULATION WAS DONE ON THE ACTUAL ROOF AS WELL AS THE DOORS. I'VE ALSO NOTICED MY PASSENGER WINDOW STICKING WHILE LOWERING THE WINDOW OR RAISING THE WINDOW. AND, MY WINDSHIELD SEEMS TO BE GLISTENING NOW -- I'M THINKING THAT THOSE GLISTENING SMALL CRACKS WILL TRULY TURN INTO MAJOR PROBLEMS LONG-TERM! I AM CURRENTLY LEASING AND WAS SERIOUSLY DECIDING TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE. BUT, WITH MY CONCERNS LISTED I'M NOT SURE HOW LONG THIS JEEP COMMANDER WILL LAST ME FINANCIALLY. TRAVELING TO STOPLIGHT, AND WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE, THE BRAKES DID NOT CATCH CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
THE BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD LOCK UP AT HIGH SPEEDS, DRIVABLE AND YOU FEEL THE FRICTION AND IT'S LIKE A TUGGING EFFECT UNTIL YOU BRAKE AND THEN IT WOULD BE COMPLETELY FINE. THIS FIRST HAPPENED BACK IN JUNE OF 2007. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AS SOON AS IT HAPPENED. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, NOTHING SHOWED UP ON THEIR TESTS. THIS BRAKE PROBLEM HAPPENED OCCASIONALLY THROUGH THE YEAR WITH NO WARNING LIGHT APPEARING ON THE PANEL AND IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION AND ALWAYS THE SAME RESULT, NOTHING THEY CAN FIND IN THEIR TESTS. BUT LATELY THIS BRAKE PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, MORE RANDOM AND PROGRESSIVE AND AGAIN WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION, 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN FACT. AND STILL NOTHING THEY CAN FIND. *TR
THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS I HAVE GOTTEN THREE HITS TO THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY. ALL THREE WERE BELOW THE WIPER LINE. THE FIRST ONE RESULTED IN AN IMMEDIATE CRACK WHICH WA S NOW A FOOT LONG. BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO REPAIR THAT I RECEIVED ANOTHER STONE HIT. THIS ONE ALSO CRACKED IMMEDIATELY, AND WAS ABOUT 8" LONG. THIS THIRD HIT HAPPENED THIS MORNING AND COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. THE HIT WAS AGAIN BELOW THE WIPER BLADE ,BUT THIS TIME THE WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND BLEW SMALL GLASS PIECES INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 6 MORE INCHES TO THE LEFT I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN HIT IN THE FACE. AS IT WAS I GOT HIT IN THE ARM, AND HAD GLASS DUST AND SHARDS ALL OVER THE DASHBOARD AND PASSENGER SEAT. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE NOW.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 50-60 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED FIVE MINUTES LATER. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000. UPDATED 03/04/08.*LJ TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VALVE BODY CONNECTOR AREA.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY VEHICLE WAS STRUCK WITH A PEBBLE WHICH CAUSED IT TO CHIP. DAYS LATER, THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT, TOOK PICTURES, SUBMITTED IT TO DETERMINE WHETHER THEY WOULD REPLACE IT DUE TO DEFECT, ETC. I WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL AUTOMOTIVE PROFESSIONALS THAT THE SITUATION WAS ODD. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF TRYING TO CONTACT THEM, WAS TOLD THEY WERE STILL WAITING. MONTHS HAD PASSED AND I STILL NEVER GOT ANYWHERE WITH CHRYSLER SO I REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD OUT OF POCKET IN NOV. 2007. SINCE THEN I HAVE 2 NEW STONE CHIPS AND A 3RD THAT RESULTED IN THE SAME SPLINTERING CRACK ACROSS THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. THE SAME HAS RECENTLY HAPPENED TO MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER WHEN A SMALL CHIP SPLINTERED IN 5 DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. IN ALL THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND ALL THE VEHICLES MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE OWNED I HAVE NEVER HAD EVEN A CHIP IN A WINDSHIELD, EVEN WHILE LIVING ON A GRAVEL ROAD. IS THIS JUST BAD LUCK OR IS CHRYSLER TO BLAME FOR CHEAP/FAULTY PARTS? I HAVE SEEN MANY SERVICE BULLETINS ON YOUR WEBSITE REGARDING THIS AS WELL. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I HAD JUST BOUGHT OUR FIRST NEW VEHICLE A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. IT ONLY HAD 65 MI. OR SO ON IT WHEN WE BOUGHT IT. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH MY 20 MONTH OLD LITTLE GIRL MY CAR STALLED. I ALMOST HIT A LINCOLN NAVIGATOR! I WENT TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THAT WAS AT 1400 MILES! THEN AT 3700 MI. I WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT AND MY CAR STARTING SHAKING REALLY BAD! THEN I ACCIDENTALLY PUT MY CAR IN 4TH GEAR AND THEN IT WOULDN'T GO BACK INTO DRIVE. IT HAS BEEN AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE OWNING THIS COMMANDER! THE CAR DEALERSHIP ALSO TOLD ME THE SEATS WERE STAIN RESISTANT AND THEY ARE NOT BY ANY MEANS I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR UP CLOSE TO 15 TIMES TO HAVE APPLE JUICE TAKEN OUT OF MY "STAIN PROOF" CLOTH SEATS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANYONE!!!!!*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER 4X4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SWUNG AROUND AND WAS HIT HEAD ON. THE FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DASHBOARD CRUMBLED INTO PIECES. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE IMPACT SPEED WAS NOT HIGH ENOUGH FOR THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.
ENGINE FAILURE/STALL/LOSS OF POWER ON 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 TIMES NOW. SOMETIMES AT LOW SPEEDS...SOMETIMES ON THE FREEWAY. STARTED HAPPENING AROUND 15,000 MILES. DEALER TRIED TO REPLICATE IT. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT. SO THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT. I HAVE TOLD THEM ABOUT IT 3 TIMES. NOW IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AT 39,000 MILES AND ON THE FREEWAY. I LOST CONTROL AND IT BECAME AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I TRIED TO COAST OVER TO THE EMERGENCY SHOULDER. TEMPORARY BRAKE POWER LOST AND NO RESPONSE TO THE ATTEMPTS TO START IT IN NEUTRAL. PLEASE HELP! STARTED IN 2007 AND CONTINUES TO HAPPEN IN 2009. I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS OR TSBS. I OWN THE VEHICLE. *TR
2007 JEEP COMMANDER: AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND PUT INTO GEAR; GEAR ENGAGEMENT IS DELAYED. REACTION IS TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE. WITH THE COMBINATION OF DELAYED THE ENGAGEMENT AND ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE COULD SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD BEFORE THE BRAKE CAN BE APPLIED AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I DROVE A 22007 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED 5.7LT HEMI. ON MAY 8, 2007 I WAS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT FOR APPROXIMATELY A MINUTE OR TWO WHEN THE SIGNAL TURNED GREEN AND I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE STALLED. I HIT THE GAS A COUPLE OF TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE,AND IT STARTED FINE, BUT THE STALLING FRIGHTENED AND CONCERNED ME.*AK
THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER STALLED 3 TIMES IN THE 10 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. 2 OUT OF THE 3 STALLINGS WERE ON A HEAVY TRAFFIC INTERSTATE IN ATLANTA, GA. EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE INCLUDED DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES AN HOUR, A/C POWERED ON FAILURE, AND ITS CONSEQUENCES RESULTED IN ENGINES TURNING OFF COMPLETELY, AND REQUIRING A FULL RESTART. CARS GOING THE SAME SPEED AS MYSELF 65 MPH)WERE SWERVING TO MISS ME. TO CORRECT THE FAILURE JEEP GAVE ENGINE A SOFTWARE UPGRADE, AND STATED THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT HE WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THE SERVICE PERFORMED. IT WAS ONLY MY LIFE AT STAKE, RIGHT?? I FILED A FORMAL LEGAL COMPLAINT TO CHRYSLER TO GET OUT OF MY LEASE.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
A NEW VEHICLE, THE JEEP COMMANDER, ON A WET HIGHWAY, IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ANYONE BEHIND. REASON, HORRIBLE DESIGN RESULTS IN MORE SPRAY AND MIST KICKED UP THAN AN EIGHTEEN WHEELER. THIS HORRIBLY DESIGNED, UNAERODYNAMIC PILE OF JUNK IS A MAJOR MENACE THAT TURNS A WET HIGHWAY INTO A MOVING CLOUD AND THEY WILL BE THE CAUSE OF A MAJOR PILE-UPS. ALL SHOULD BE BOUGHT BACK AND SCRAPPED. TEST ONE ON A VERY WET ASPHALT HIGHWAY AND MY COMPLAINT WILL BE OBVIOUS TO ALL. BAN THIS VEHICLE BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. ON APRIL 3, 2007, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE FAILED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS OTHER THAN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 3,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,535. UPDATED 06/14/07. *JB

WE PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER ON FEB.10. IT HAS 2,000 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK, THE ENGINE "THREW A ROD" THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE REQUIRING A NEW ENGINE TO BE INSTALLED. IT WAS THE RESULT OF ROAD RAINWATER BEING TAKEN INTO THE ENGINE THROUGH THE AIR INTAKE. I AM HAVING TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE WATER ON THER ROAD WAS MINIMAL. I CONTINUE TO SEE JEEP ADVERTISEMENTS ON TELEVISION SHOWING THE JEEP COMMANDER DRIVING THRU WATER... THE CONSUMER NEEDS TO BE AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN THRU WATER...
BRAKING CAPABILITY -- SEEMINGLY IN FRONT END OF VEHICLE -- IS DIMINISHED BY APPARENT WARPING OF FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. THIS BECAME FIRST NOTICEABLE TO ME AT APPROX JUST 15K MILES. JEEP (DAIMLERCHRYSLER) WANTS NO PART OF REPAIR (WARRANTY EXP AT 12K MILES, THEY SAY). INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP INFORMS ME THAT THIS IS CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. I COMPLAINED TO DAIMLERCHRYSLER VIA LATTER IN MARCH; THEY DECLINED TO HELP VIA LETTER DATED APRIL 10, 2007.
ON SEVERAL OCCASION WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE HAS COMPLETELY CUT OUT. I HAVE CONCLUDED, LUCKILY WITHOUT ACCIDENT OR INJURY, THAT THE CAUSE WAS MY INADVERTENTLY HITTING THE IGNITION KEY, LOCATED IN THIS VEHICLE PERILOUSLY CLOSE TO THE DRIVER'S RIGHT KNEE, AND EFFECTIVELY TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION. IT TOOK A SLIGHT TOUCH FOR THIS TO OCCUR, ESPECIALLY WITH OTHER KEYS OR SUCH DANGLING DOWN FROM THE IGNITION KEY. FOR A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER, SUCH AS MY DAUGHTER THIS SUDDEN AND IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER ON THE OPEN ROAD COULD , D AT SOME POINT,WILL-- CAUSE PANIC AND PERHAPS MUCH WORSE. THIS NEEDED ADDRESSED. THE TIRE-PRESSURE-MONITOR SYSTEM HAS BEEN DEFECTIVE SINCE THE PURCHASE OF MY JEEP. MY JEEP SERVICE-CENTER HAS ATTEMPTED MANY TIMES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS. SINCE THE JEEP TPM SYSTEM IS REPORTING BOGUS INFORMATION, THE TPM ERROR MESSAGES ARE USELESS. THEREFORE THE ENTIRE TPM SYSTEM IS USELESS AND NOT OPERATING AS REQUIRED BY THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA), DOT., 49 CFR PARTS 571 AND 585, [DOCKET NO. NHTSA 2005-20586], RIN 2127-AJ23
THIS COMPLAINT IS IN CONNECTION WITH A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER 4X4. THE VEHICLE STALLED TWICE WHILE ON A HIGHWAY SERVICE ROAD. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE PLACEMENT AND DESIGN OF THE IGNITION MAY BE TO BLAME FOR THIS AND OTHER STALLS (WHICH ARE NOW UNDER NHTSA INVESTIGATION). IT APPEARS THAT IF YOU HIT YOUR KNEE ON THE KEY WHILE IT IS IN THE IGNITION YOU CAN EASILY TURN THE TRUCK OFF WHILE IT IS IN OPERATION. PLEASE REVIEW THE PLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION AND ITS DESIGN AS IT APPEARS TO OFFER LITTLE RESISTANCE TO GLANCES FROM THE DRIVER'S KNEE. IT SEEMS TO EASILY TURN THE TRUCK OFF. I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED 4.7L 4WD. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON ONE OCCASION AND A RURAL ROAD ON ANOTHER OCCASION AT SEPARATE TIMES IN ON THE SAME DAY (TWO DAYS AFTER PURCHASING) AND WAS MOVING AT AROUND 70 MPH ON THE HWY AND 45 ON THE RURAL ROAD WHEN I SHIFTED IN MY SEAT. MY RIGHT KNEE MADE MINOR CONTACT WITH THE IGNITION KEY AND IT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF COMPLETELY, NO DASH LIGHTS NO MOTOR, NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME OR BESIDE ME EITHER TIME. I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK THEN RESTART THE MOTOR AND GO FROM THERE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF A YOUNG DRIVER HAD BEEN AT THE WHEEL OR IF THERE WERE CARS AROUND ME AT THE TIME. I AM NOT A LARGE OR VERY TALL PERSON. I WENT TO EDMUNDS.COM AND WENT TO THE VEHICLE FORUM ON PROBLEMS AND ISSUES AND READ WHERE OTHERS HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. I CONTACTED THE DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURE, WHEN I DID THEY SENT ME A PRESCRIPTED NOTE SAYING TO CONTACT THE DEALER. I TOLD THEM THAT THE DEALER TOLD ME TO CONTACT THEM AND THEY SENT ME ANOTHER EMAIL STATING TO GO THROUGH THE DEALER. AND THEY THANKED ME FOR MY INPUT. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT A BROKEN PART ISSUE IT IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE VEHICLE. THE IGNITION KEY IS LOCATED AT SUCH AN ANGLE AND CLOSE TO THE KNEE SO THAT WHEN IT GETS HIT FROM THE LEFT IT FORCES THE KEY TO TURN OUT OF RUN TO ACC OR OFF. IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH FORCE TO DO THIS AND THE DETENT IN THE RUN POSITION IS VERY WEEK AT BEST. THIS TO ME IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER IN OCTOBER OF 2006. AT ABOUT 2,000 MILES, I EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE THAT CAUSED MANY GAUGES TO COME ON OR GO OFF. I DID LOSE MY HEADLIGHTS & THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED. I PULLED OVER, POWERED OFF THE VEHICLE & RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEM 4 TIMES NOW. I'VE FILED THE LEMON LAW IN INDIANA, BUT IT WAS DENIED. THE LAST TIME I EXPERIENCED THE ELECTRICAL FAULT, MY SEAT STARTING MOVING FORWARD FOR A FEW SECONDS WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. THE VEHICLE HAS REGISTERED FAULT CODES EVERY TIME THAT I SAVED. EACH TIME, THE DEALER CAN NOT DUPLICATE & PERFORMS COMPUTER FLASH UPDATES IN HOPES OF CORRECTING PROBLEM. IN MY OPINION, THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO OPERATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO FIFTH GEAR. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKS TOO EARLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000. UPDATED 01-15-08. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS AN AGGRESSIVE VIBRATION BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 40-50 MPH. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM, BUT DID ACKNOWLEDGED THERE WAS A VIBRATION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST STEERING ABILITY AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO REGAIN POWER AND STEERING ABILITY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
