TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR A MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT CRUISING SPEED, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SUDDENLY LIT UP, AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, RESULTING IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKE BOOST POWER. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PULLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME WEEK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS PART OF THE P41 RECALL AND THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. THIS VEHICLE IS ALREADY UNDER P41 / NHTSA 14V-438, FIRST ANNOUNCED ON JULY 18, 2014. NOW FOUR MONTHS LATER (9 IN TOTAL) CHRYSLER HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. NHTSA SHOULD TAKE STEPS TO RESOLVE THIS FASTER. *TR
THE VEHICLE IGNITION IS FAULTY AND UNDER RECALL. THE VEHICLE WILL JUST TURN OFF BY ITSELF. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER JEEP BUT THEY HAVE NOT RETURNED MY CALLS TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. I OWN 2 OF THESE JEEP COMMANDERS AND NEITHER OF THEM ARE SAFE TO DRIVE. CHRYSLER IS AWARE THAT THEY ARE NOT SAFE BUT YET WILL NOT REPAIR THEM OR PROVIDE SAFE TRANSPORTATION UNTIL REPAIR IS MADE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS ALSO UNCERTAIN WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DUE TO FAULTY ELECTRICAL WIRING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIGNAL LIGHT. JEEP WILL NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO SCHEDULE THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL REPAIR FOR A YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP ALLEGES THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THREE DRIVERS IN OUR FAMILY HAVE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN SHUT-OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY. WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMPLETELY DISCONTINUE OUR USE OF THE VEHICLE, BUT HAVE BEEN FORCED TO USE OTHER TRANSPORTATION WHENEVER POSSIBLE OUT OF FEAR THAT THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WE ARE NOT IN A FINANCIAL POSITION TO SELL THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY IN ITS DEFECTIVE CONDITION. I WOULD NOT, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, BE ABLE TO OFFER THE VEHICLE FOR SALE WITHOUT DISCLOSING THE DEFECT, AND I WOULD OWE MORE ON THE OUTSTANDING LOAN THAN THE AMOUNT FOR WHICH I COULD SELL IT. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT JEEP WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HOW CAN IT TAKE MORE THAN A YEAR TO PRODUCE THE PART(S)? HOW CAN THEY CONTINUE TO PRODUCE NEW VEHICLES WHILE IGNORING THIS PROBLEM? MID SEPTEMBER AFTER DROPPING KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL THE JEEP DIED TWICE RIGHT IN A ROW. THE JEEP ALSO STARTED THIS WEIRD HARD DOWN SHIFTING IN CERTAIN GEARS. A FEW DAYS LATER THE JEEP DIED AGAIN AFTER I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY, WHILE I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH. SINCE THEN THE SHIFTING IS GETTING WORSE. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IT DIES, THE CODES WERE READ BY AN AUTO PARTS STORE. THERE WERE MULTIPLE CODES, ELECTRONIC POSITION SENSOR, INTAKE, AND MANIFOLD. I TRIED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER BUT THEY WILL NOT COMPLETE IT UNTIL I PAY THEIR AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIPS TO READ THE CODES. AFTER RESETTING COMPUTER IT HAS NOT COME BACK ON. THE JEEP STILL SHIFTS ERRATICALLY, AND I DISCOVER THAT THE ETC WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT WORK. WHY???. I DON'T KNOW WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 5 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE LIGHT. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG. PLEASE HELP. ALSO NEITHER MY HUSBAND OR MYSELF ARE TALL ENOUGH FOR OUR KNEE TO EVEN THINK ABOUT BUMPING THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THE ENGINE STALLED OUT SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW. I HAD IT TESTED, AND THEY SAID IT WAS AN IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE DOES NOT EXIST ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT YET ITS THE ONLY CODE THAT IT IS GIVING OFF. I'M STILL HAVING STALLING ISSUES WHICH ARE DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT OF INTERSECTIONS. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT IS ONGOING THAT I'M HAVING, IS THE SUNROOF LEAKING. I HAVE LITERALLY 2 GALLONS OF WATER THAT WILL BE ON MY FLOOR BOARD WHEN IT RAINS. YOU CAN HEAR WATER SLOSHING ABOVE YOUR HEAD BEFORE IT HITS THE WIRING IN THE DOOR PANELS AND THEN COLLECTS ON THE FLOOR BOARDS. *TR

DRIVING AT 58-60MPH CAR STALLED VERY BRIEFLY,A SECOND OR SO, CHIMED ONCE AND THEN KEPT GOING, AFTER ABOUT 1/2HR DRIVING SAME SPEED MY CAR DID THE EXACT SAME THING, STALLED,WE ACTUALLY LURCHED FORWARD IN OUR SEAT, THEN 40 MIN LATER CAR DID IT AGAIN. 3 TIMES TOTAL. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SHUT MY CAR OFF AND THEN DROVE WITHOUT PROBLEMS. *TR
THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THAT THE CAR HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND CANNOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE BIG RIG TRUCK BEHIND US ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE CAR DUE TO THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE WE ARE TRAVELING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. WITH THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF OTHER VEHICLES. THE CAR EVENTUALLY REDUCES SPEED DOWN TO A HALT. I HAVE TO PLACE THE JEEP IN PARK AND RESTART THE IGNITION. THE TRUCK DRIVER WAS YELLING PROFANITIES OUT THE WINDOW, TELLING ME TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE AND SHOWING OBSCENE GESTURES WHILE I HAVE TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL SHUT DOWN ON ME AGAIN. THE ONLY ADVICE I GET FROM CHRYSLER IS TO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER KEYS ON THE RING AND TO NOT HAVE MY KNEE HIT THE IGNITION KEY WHILE DRIVING. *TR
THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER DUE TO THE IGNITION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES. CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH DESIGN AND SENT OUT RECALL (P41/NHTSA 14V-438) IN OCT OF 2014. THEY HAVE NOT DEVELOPED THE PART YET TO FIX THIS RECALL. THE DEALERSHIPS DON'T WANT TO TOUCH IT UNTIL THE PART IS AVAILABLE. THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES CRANK AND SOMETIMES WILL NOT DUE TO THE FAULTY SWITCH. I HAVE CONTACTED AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER AND GET THE IMPRESSION THEY ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON THIS RECALL. THEY CLAIM TO BE DEVELOPING THE PART, BUT THAT HAS BEEN 9 MONTHS. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD ALL POWER IS LOST INCLUDING POWER TO THE AIRBAGS.
9/13/14 AT 0945, THE VEHICLES ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE STARTED STALLING. VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO FIRESTONE AND DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE(ENGINE ANALYSIS). MECHANIC STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG BESIDE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY. WE HAD THE THROTTLE CLEANED. 9/13/14 AT 1325 WHILE TRAVELING ON MULTI-LANE FREE WAY. VEHICLE STALLED AND CHOKED SMOKED. VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO START AND MERGE ON TO AN EXIT AND STALLED AGAIN, SEVERAL TIME BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO MOVE OUT THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO ANOTHER FIRESTONE. AT THAT TIME ANOTHER ENGINE ANALYSIS WAS COMPLETED. AFTER A FEW HOURS WE WE'RE INFORM THAT CYLINDER 1, 2, AND 4 WERE LOST/FAILED. ALSO THAT IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NOTICE DURING A NORMAL CHECK-UP AND THAT THEY COULD NOT FIXED IT WAS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE. *TR

ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK ONE NIGHT MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND HAD IT CHECKED. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR CAUSING THE WARNING. HE HAD TO ORDER THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE SENSORS. AFTER THEY WERE REPLACED IT WAS JUST FINE FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS. THE CHECK ENGINE CAME BACK ON AGAIN. TOOK BACK TO OUR MECHANIC HE SAID THEY WERE BAD AND REPLACED THEM AGAIN. THE FIRST TWO WERE SETS FROM AUTO PARTS SUPPLIERS BUT WHEN THE SECOND PART FAILED HE ORDERED A SET FROM THE JEEP DEALER. WELL THEY FAILED. HE HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE JEEP DEALER TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. ACCORDING TO THEM THEY HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE KNOCK SENSOR. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE. MY MECHANIC IS AT HIS WITS END ABOUT IT. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER ABOUT THE COST TO HAVE THEM CHECK THEM OUT. THEY TOLD HIM JUST TO SCAN THE COMPUTER WAS $94.00 A HALF HOUR AND TO RUN A COMPLETE TEST WOULD BE $100.00 A HOUR AND TAKE MAYBE TWO TO THREE HOURS. I CAN'T BELIEVE WE HAVE THE ONLY JEEP COMMANDER THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. *TR

CRUISE CONTROL STILL DOES NOT OPERATE. SINGLE TOUCH POWER WINDOW FUNCTION NO LONGER WORKS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS. WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK ON THE TOLL ROAD, RPMS REGISTERED BETWEEN 2500-3500 GOING AT A SPEED OF 75. THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME, IT WAS BETWEEN 3000-3500. I DID NOT HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONAL RUNNING. I WAS NOT ACCELERATING AND WAS NOT GOING UP OR DOWN INCLINES TO CAUSE THE HIGHER RPMS. AFTER EXITING THE TOLL ROAD, I TURNED AND WHILE ACCELERATING TO AROUND 40MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I WAS ON AN INSIDE LANE, I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO ALLOW A SEMI TO PASS ON THE OUTSIDE LANE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO PLACE IN PARK, TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND TURN IT BACK ON. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. MY AVERAGE MPG WAS 13.9, LOWER THAN IT SHOULD BE. LEAVING FOR MY COMMUTE HOME, WHEN I TURNED ON THE JEEP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER LIT. I NOTICED DURING THE COMMUTE THAT THE RPMS WERE NOT AS HIGH AS IN THE MORNING, AND ALSO MY MPG INCREASED BY ALMOST A MILE PER GALLON, AND THAT WAS RUNNING AT THE SAME SPEED AND I ALSO WAS RUNNING THE AIR CONDITIONING. UPON EXITING THE TOLL ROAD, THE VEHICLE JERKED HEAVILY WHILE DOWNSHIFTING FROM OVERDRIVE. A JERKY MOTION CONTINUED FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY COMMUTE (RANGING FROM 30-55 MPH). PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOW TAKE PHOTOS AFTER THE ENGINE STALLS TO REFLECT THE MILEAGE AND THAT THE LIGHT IS LIT. I ALSO NOW TAKE PICTURES WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF. *TR
