MORE THAN ONCE OUR JEEP COMMANDER, WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, HAS TURNED OFF ON ITS OWN. WHEN THE CAR TURNS OFF YOU LOSE NEARLY ALL BRAKING AND STEERING POWER. LUCKILY NO ONE HAS BEEN HURT, YET. THIS SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE RECENT JEEP IGNITION RECALL, YET NO PART IS AVAILABLE TO ACTUALLY FIX THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING, WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DISCONTINUE USE OF THE CAR WHICH MEANS WE WERE FORCED TO BUY ANOTHER CAR UNTIL OUR JEEP CAN BE FIXED. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V567000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO INFORM WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO SOUTHFIELD CHRYSLER ON 3/1/2015., THE NEXT DAY I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ASKED NATURE OF PROBLEM THE VEHICLE NEVER GOT LOOKED AT UNTIL 3-4 DAYS LATER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WIN MODULE " WAS NOT RESPONDING" THAT VEHICLE WOULD START THEN SHUT OFF INTERMITTENTLY. HE STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS "NOT" PART OF THE RECALL, AND THE MODULE ITSELF WAS BAD AND THAT THE "SWITCH ITSELF IS THE PART BEING RECALLED." WHEN I QUESTIONED HIM ON THIS AFTER I FOUND ONLINE THAT A WOMAN IN CHICAGO HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS INSTRUCTED I COULD CONTACT CHRYSLER ASSISTANCE LINE TO SEE IF THE ITEM WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND HE WOULD ALSO CHECK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENED WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHO I WAS...AFTER 9 DAYS OF THE VEHICLE BEING IN THERE POSSESSION IT WAS REPAIRED AND WAS CHARGED A TOTAL OF $608.99 NOT INCLUDING THE COST OF RENTAL FOR THE 9 DAYS. DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY TYPE OF REIMBURSEMENT OR RESPONSIBILITY.

THE IGNITION SWITCH STARTED TO MAKE A CLICKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION OFF IT WILL NOT TURN ALL THE WAY OFF AND THE KEY OR FOBIK GETS STUCK AND WILL NOT COME OUT. THE POWER STAYS ON. PERHAPS 1 HOUR LATER OR LONGER I CAN GO OUT AND IT WILL TURN OFF AND ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED. IF I FORGET TO GO BACK OUT TO RETRIEVE THE KEY THE BATTERY RUNS LOW AND THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. I'M STRANDED. WHEN I PARK AND GO ANYWHERE THE CARE IS NOT SECURE WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNTION, ANYONE CAN OPEN THE DOOR AND STEAL THE CAR.THIS IGNITION WAS RECALLED IN NOVEMEBR OF 2014 AND TO DATE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A FIX. I HAVE A 2008 COMMANDER THAT IS PART OF THE P57 RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH (9/2014). THE SWITCH HAS TOTALLY FAILED (2/2015). CALLED ALL THE DEALERS IN MY AREA AND NOBODY HAS RECEIVED THE PARTS YET. CALLED JEEP THEY HAVE NO UPDATE ON WHEN PARTS ARE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE. THEY SAID THE BEST THEY CAN DO IS TO PUT ME ON A PRIORITY LIST. I ASKED ABOUT TRYING TO GET A LOANER CAR (AT NO COST TO ME) TO USE WHILE MY JEEP IS DOWN THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T HELP ME OUT. MY WIFE IS DRIVING THE JEEP AND IT JUST CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR MONTHS... WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE LAST YEAR AND STILL WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN.. IT HAS BEEN OVER SIX MONTHS AND THERE SEEMS TO BE KNOW SENSE OF URGENCY ON THE PART OF CHRYSLER. 2008 JEEP COMMANDER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS A DIAGNOSTIC MESSAGE DISPLAYED "KEY DAMAGED". THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HIS HOME, WHERE HE USED THE SPARE KEY FOB, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE DOORS LOCKED AND THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THEM USING THE KEY, BUT THE ALARM WENT OFF AND THE BATTERY HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED TO STOP IT. IGNITION RECALL....JEEP WON'T START. HAVE A NEW STARTER AND BATTERY. WHEN I CAN GET IT TO FINALLY START THE FAN STOPS. THEN I GET STRANDED BECAUSE IT WON'T START AGAIN. I SEE THIS VEHICLE HAS 5 RECALLS. I BOUGHT THIS JEEP FROM A CAR LOT LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. THE LOT WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. SO I GOOGLED THE MAKE AND MODEL AND FIND 5 RECALLS. SO FAR THANK GOD THE JEEP IS STATIONARY WHEN IT WON'T START. BUT BEING STRANDED WITH A 4 MONTH OLD BABY IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER....... YES IN ANGRY AS HELL!

2008 JEEP COMMANDER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE STALLING. *SMD THE CONSUMER NOTICED ON HOT DAY, WHEN THE GAS WAS 1/4 OR LESS, IT WOULD STALL. THE CONSUMER INSTALLED A HEAT INSULATOR ON THE FUEL RAIL AND REPLACED THE FUEL CAP. HOWEVER, IN FEBRUARY WHEN IT WAS 45 DEGREES AND THE TANK WAS 3/4 FULL, THE VEHICLE STALLED. IN JAN 2015 OUR KEY FOB GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION OF OUR 2008 JEEP COMMANDER. A DAY LATER,WE WERE ABLE TO FREE IT. ON 2/19/15 IT WOULD NOT START AND WE HAD TO HAVE IT JUMP STARTED TWICE. ONCE STARTED IT DROVE WITHOUT ISSUES FOR 3 DAYS. THEN ON 2/23/15, THE JEEP WOULD NOT START AND THE KEY FOB GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE JEEP COULD NOT MOVE AND COULD NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK. THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED WERE THE LIGHTS. WE TRIED TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE AND TRIED EVERYTHING WE COULD THINK OF TO RELEASE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE FOB WOULD NOT RELEASE SO WE HAD TO HAVE THE JEEP TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT. THE MECHANIC TESTED THE JEEP (BATTERY TESTED FINE). THEY CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY PARTS TO FIX THE ISSUE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE ISSUE WITH OUR JEEP WAS A FAULTY IGNITION. THE MECHANIC GOT THE FOB RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION BY UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY. HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE HOW LONG THIS WOULD WORK. WE CALLED THE RECALL HOTLINE AND CONFIRMED OUR JEEP COMMANDER WAS LISTED ON RECALL P57. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER HAS NO FIX AT THIS TIME. THE HOTLINE ADVISED US TO GET A HOLD OF A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND GET A RENTAL CAR FREE OF CHARGE THROUGH THEM UNTIL THE JEEP COULD BE FIXED (AT AN UNKNOWN FUTURE DATE). THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO GIVE US A RENTAL AND SAID THEY COULD NOT LOOK AT THE JEEP FOR A FEW WEEKS. ON 2/28 THE JEEP WOULD NOT START AGAIN SO WE HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY (AT OUR EXPENSE). BECAUSE OF THE P57 IGNITION RECALL WE ARE WORRIED THAT WE HAVE AN UNRELIABLE VEHICLE AND THAT IT COULD ALSO STALL WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WITH INJURY OR DEATH. WE FEEL UNSAFE IN THE JEEP! WE WANT CHRYSLER TO FIX THESE UNSAFE IGNITIONS IMMEDIATELY AND IN THE MEANTIME PROVIDE US FREE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR OUR EXPENSES. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START MY 08 JEEP COMMANDER IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I HAD IT TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH AND KEY FOB. WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE IT COST ME OVER $300 FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE SEEN THAT RECALL P57 WAS ACTIVE ON JEEP COMMANDERS FROM MANUFACTURE DATES OF 5-12-08 AND EARLIER, MY MANUFACTURE DATE IS 5-16-08. THIS SEEMS TO BE AWFULLY CLOSE TO THE RECALL DATE TO NOT BE INCLUDE ESPECIALLY SINCE MINE WAS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

ON DECEMBER 23RD 2014, I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY. AS WE PULLED INTO A REST AREA, THE JEEP IGNITION CUT OFF. CHRYSLER HAS A RECALL OUT FOR FAULTY IGNITION SWITCHES. THE RECALL NOTICES WERE ISSUED IN SEPT 2014. IT IS NOW MID DEC AND THERE ARE NO PARTS AND NO REMEDY FOR THIS WHEN IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER DIRECTLY. ON THE RECALL IT STATES THAT THE ENGINE CAN STOP DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAILURE W/IN THE VEH WITH OUT NOTICE AS WELL AS THE POWER STEERING CAN BE LOST AND OR THE BRAKING ALL OF WHICH INCREASE YOUR CRASH POTENTIAL. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 27 NOV, AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A 2-LANE HIGHWAY. WE WERE TRAVELING APPROX. 60 MPH WHEN THE JEEP MADE A ?CLUNK? SOUND, SUDDENLY THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, GOT OUT AND DID A QUICK EXTERNAL CHECK TO TRY AND SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. NOTHING APPEARED TO BE WRONG. I GOT BACK IN AND TRIED TO START THE JEEP AGAIN, AND IT DID START UP. WE CAUTIOUSLY PROCEEDED BACK TO OUR HOTEL AND I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED UP THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED FOR ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. THE JEEP DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP, BUT THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE TECH TOLD ME THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH ON OUR JEEP WAS LOOSE, WHICH COULD ALLOW IT TO SLIP FROM THE ON POSITION TO THE ACC POSITION WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP WHILE DRIVING. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY ADVISED THAT WE REMOVE ALL KEY CHAINS FROM THE KEY, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. JUST TWO DAYS LATER, ON 29 NOV, WE HAD ANOTHER DANGEROUS INCIDENT. THIS TIME, WE WERE ON THE MIDDLE LANE OF A 3-LANE INTERSTATE. WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROX. 70 MPH WHEN I AGAIN HEARD THE LOUD ?CLUNK?, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ENGINE POWER AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND TRIED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO VEHICLE IN THE LANE TO THE RIGHT OF US, AS I COULD BARELY GET THE JEEP OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE SHOULDER. IF ANOTHER VEHICLE WOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE BEHIND US OR COMING UP ON THE RIGHT OF US, WE WOULD SURELY HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED. SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD UNUSUALLY SHORT BATTERY LIFE: THE BATTERY IN THE CAR HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED 2 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO YEARS (WARRANTIED 3 YEAR BATTERY LIFE FROM MANUFACTURER). ADDITIONALLY, THE CAR HAS FAILED TO START ATLEAST 5 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE BATTERY POWER WILL BE FINE, BUT THE IGNITION WILL REFUSE TO ENGAGE(NO CLICKING SOUND.) IF ANOTHER BATTERY IS HOOKED UP TO THE ENGINE, IT WILL START JUST FINE WITHOUT ANY WAITING PERIOD TO CHARGE BATTERY SINCE THE CAR'S BATTERY WILL STILL BE FULLY CHARGED. TODAY THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER AT ALL AND WE FINALLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON SINCE WE WEREN'T ABLE TO JUMP THE ENGINE THIS TIME. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE, AND THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY ANY PROBLEM, SO IT SHOULDN'T BE A BROKEN OR WORN DOWN PART(ESPECIALLY SINCE WE'VE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE 60,000/4 YEAR OLD MARK).
