I OWN A 2008 JEEP COMPASS AND ON 07/25/2015 THE VEHICLE FAILED NYS INSPECTION BECAUSE THE ENGINE CRADDLE WAS RUSTED OUT. I LEARNED THAT ONLY 2007 WERE COVERED FOR REPAIR SO I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE. I BOUGHT ONE ON EBAY AND REPLACED IT MYSELF. THE VEHICLE PASSED INSPECTION AND PASSED IN 2016 AND 2017. ON 02/15/17 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FCA US LLC CUSTOMER CENTER SAYING THAT 2008-2012 MODEL ARE NOW COVERED AND THEY WILL MAKE A REIMBURSEMENT. I CONTACTED EBAY AND PAYPAL AND THEY ONLY HOLD RECORDS FOR 18 MONTHS AND MY BACK AND CREDITS CARDS ONLY FOR 48 MONTHS. I COULD NOT FIND THE PROOF OF PAYMENT AT HOME. I WAS ABLE TO FIND THE COST OF AN OEM FOR $507.00 I SENTL ALL OF THE PAPERWORK AND INSPECTION TO FCA AND THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME. I AM ONLY ASKING FOR CHRYSLER TO PAY FOR THE PART AND NOT MY LABOR. I KNOW THAT THE LABOR IS ABOUT $1,500.00 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE CRADDLE. IF THE CRADDLE WAS NOT PAID AND REPLACE THE VEHICLE WOULD NEVER PASSED INSPECTION FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS.

AFTER DRIVING AND IT SETS FOR ABOUT 45 MIN OR 1 HOUR IT IS HARD TO START WHEN IT DOES START THE IS A SMELL OF FUEL COMING OUT OF THE VENTS, WHEN IT IS COLD STARTS FINE OR IF YOU GONE FOR A SHORTER TIME IT STARTS FINE BUT STILL HAS THE FUEL SMELL OUT OF THE VENTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT BEGAN TO HEAR STATIC COMING FROM THE RADIO THAT CAUSED THE RADIO TO POWER OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR STATE INSPECTION AND A "CREAKING" TYPE NOISE. IT WAS FOUND TO HAVE THE K FRAME RUSTED THROUGH THEREFORE FAILING STATE INSPECTION. I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS IS THE SAME BODY TYPE (PLATFORM) USED IN THE 2007 DODGE CALIBER AND THE SAME PART NUMBER. THE 2007 DODGE CALIBER WAS RECALLED DUE TO THIS PART FAILURE WHICH COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE AND OTHER COMPONENTS TO FALL OUT OF THE CAR. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE AS THEY RECALLED THE 2007 CALIBER BUT UNLESS FORCED IS NOT TAKING CARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN OTHER VEHICLES MADE USING THE SAME PLATFORM AND PARTS. WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY ONLY 2 YEARS LESS THAN 25000 MILES I HAD TO HAVE A TIE ROD REPLACED. I WAS ALSO ADVISED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT "THESE VEHICLES ARE KNOWN FOR THIS ISSUE".
I TOOK MY 2008 JEEP COMPASS IN FOR SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIANS FOUND THROUGH RUST IN THE ENGINE CRADLE, CONTROL ARMS, AND TIE RODS. I HAD TO HAVE THESE COMPONENTS REPLACED AT A COST OF $2900. THIS CAR IS LIGHTLY USED, STORED IN A GARAGE AND ONLY HAS 115532 MILES. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER / DESIGN DEFECT TO HAVE MAJOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS THROUGH ON A CAR THAT IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE EFFECTED PARTS THAT I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SUBMIT AS EVIDENCE.
STOPPED FOR AN OIL CHANGE,WAS TOLD THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS VERY RUSTED,MECHANIC SUGGESTED I CALL CHRYSLER,HE SAID THIS SHOULDN"T BE THAT RUSTED. SAID THAT THE 2007 MODELS WERE BEING FIXED BY CHRYSLER UNDER THE WARRANTY. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER THE CHECKED THE VIN # AND SAID IT WASN'T ON THE LIST. THEY DIDN'T REALLY HAVE AN ANSWER FOR ME. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT I CAN'T AFFORD. SUS

WE PURCHASED 4 GOODYEAR WRANGLE TIRES IN 2012 AND EXPERIENCED 2 BLOW OUTS AND HAVING ISSUES WITH ANOTHER. WE CONTACTED GOODYEAR AND THEY RESPONDED WITH WARRANTY INFORMATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR, THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
UPON STATE INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT K FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH RESULTING IN REPLACEMENT OF SAME AND LF CONTROL ARM ASSY FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS-REPAIR COSTS $1617.88. K FRAME WAS A MAJOR ISSUE IN 2007 COMPASS RESULTING IN GOV'T ACTION-MY 2008 WAS BUILT IN 12/07. CHRYSLER WONT STAND BEHIND PROBLEM. 2007 GOV'T ACTION STARTED WITH A COMPLAINT. I HOPE I CAN START THIS ONE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2008 BY ONE ADULT DRIVER AGE 50 (MY WIFE). SUSPENSION HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM STARTING WITH NEW TIE ROD ENDS @ 14,000 MILES UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHEN I RAINS VERY HEAVILY OR SNOWS, WATER WILL START TO LEAK OUT OF THE FRONT DOME LIGHT. SOMETIMES IT DRIPS, SOMETIMES IT IS A STEADY STREAM THAT COMES OUT. I TALK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE NOT SURE WHY IT IS DOING IT. WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT IS VERY DISTRACTING AS THE WATER SPILLS ALL OVER MY DASH, RADIO, AND GEAR SHIFT. *TR
TRIED TO PUT FUEL IN TANK AND FUEL SPLASHED BACK AND KEPT SHUTTING OFF. TRIED 2 OTHER STATIONS AND SAME RESULT. MY DAUGHTER HAS THE CAR AT COLLEGE. SHE SAID SHE COULD ONLY PUT FUEL IN THE CAR BY CONTINUING TO PUMP VERY SLOW AND TO KEEP TRYING. WITH ANY KIND OF FAST PUMP THE FUEL WOULD SPLASH BACK. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

DRIVING AND ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. JUNE 18,2014 DRIVING AND ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. JULY 10,2014 DRIVING AND ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. JULY 29,2014 DRIVING AND ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. AUGUST 6,2014 DRIVING AND ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. AUGUST 16,2014. THIS IS THE LAST STRAW!!! I WAS ON A FOUR LANE AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. EVERYONE WAS PUTTING ON BREAKS AND HONKING THEIR HORNS AT ME. I HIT THE EMERGENCY FLASHER FAST HAVING GETTING TO KNOW WHERE IT WAS FROM THE OTHER TIMES I STALLED OUT OF THE BLUE! IT IS A WONDER I WASN'T KILLED. WHAT IS WRONG WITH JEEP ALL OF THEIR CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED PERIOD. THIS IS GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP MONDAY AND THEY WILL BE PICKING IT UP. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ANYMORE! *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT WHICH WAS 70MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO 40MPH. IT WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. HE EVEN TRIED TO GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE GAS BUT IT STILL WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER.THEN IT SLOWED DOWN TO 35 THEN 30. THERE WAS NOTHING YOU COULD DO. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS IN A LOWER GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR. THE CAR THEN STARTED TO OVER HEAT. WE OPENED THE SUN ROOF, ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS AND TURNED OFF THE AC. WE EVEN TURNED THE HEAT ON AS RECOMMENDED IN THE MANUAL BUT NO LUCK. WE ENDED UP HAVING TO STOP. ON THE INTERSTATE THIS WAS HORRIBLE. I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO BE HIT FROM BEHIND. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO FAST AND EVEN THOUGH YOUR IN THE RIGHT LANE THEY DON'T SLOW DOWN BUT TRY TO GO AROUND YOU. IT'S THE PEOPLE WHO CAN'T GET OVER INTO THE LEFT LANE AND JUST ABOUT RUN OVER YOU THAT IS TERRIFYING. WE WERE TOLD BY THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP THAT THIS HAPPENED TO THE JEEP COMPASS ALL THE TIME. SOMETIMES 1-2 TIMES OR 2-3 TIMES. THEY WILL DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. HOW CAN YOU FIX SOMETHING AFTER ITS RUN THE TRANSMISSION SO HARD? MY THING IS PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN IT AND WHATEVER ELSE IT NEEDS NEW. WE HAVE A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND I CAN BET WE WILL BE CHARGED SOMETHING. WHO IS TO SAY IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, OR WHEN MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE WITH ME? I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS JEEP I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT IT. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 5/2014, THE FOLLOWING DAY I NOTICED ODOMETER JUMPED UP ABOUT 300 MILES AND I LIVE ONLY ABOUT 20 MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALER. I ALSO NOTICED THAT TPM LIGHT CAME ON AND HALF THE RADIO WAS LIT. I TOOK IT BACK THE VERY NEXT DAY AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD NEED IT TO ORDER A NEW CLUSTER PANEL AND REPLACE THE RADIO. THEY ALSO CLAIMED THEY REPLACED ALL 4 TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS AS WELL AS TPM MODULE. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS THEN I STARTED GETTING EVEN MORE LIGHTS TO TURN ON FROM THE CLUSTER PANEL. NOW I HAVE THE 4X4 AMBER LIGHT, TRAC CONTROL, TPM MAINT, AND THE ABS LIGHTS TO TURN ON, I FEEL I HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE DAY 1. I NEED HELP. TOTAL I PAID ABOUT 13,000 FOR THE CAR. I NEED ANSWERS. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE MAIN COMPUTER IS DEFECTIVE. ITS NOT RECOGNIZING A CHASIS GROUND. IT SHOULDN'T TAKE A FATALITY TO GET CHRYSLER TO LOOK INTO THIS. THIS WAS NOT PART OF FCA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS SUBFRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL, TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT INCORRECTLY (STUCK IN WRONG GEAR), AND MELT ELECTRICAL WIRES INSIDE THE DASHBOARD. THE FIRST SYMPTOM WAS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THIS CAN BE OVERRIDDEN WITH A RELEASE SWITCH. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, THE BRAKES LIGHT FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED AS WELL AS CAUSING EXTREMELY POOR PERFORMANCE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY, WHICH CAUSED SPEED AND CONTROL INSTABILITY. DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE BRAKE LIGHT MODULE, IT CAUSED SEVERAL ADDITIONAL WIRES TO OVERHEAT AND MELT. I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS FOR ANYONE ELSE THIS HAPPENS TO. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT WOULD ALLOW A FAULTY BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO HINDER THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE IN SUCH A WAY THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. WHY DID THE SHORT NOT BLOW A FUSE? TYPICALLY, THAT SHOULD HAPPEN WITH AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.... I PURCHASED 4 BRAND NEW TIRES AROUND THE END OF 2012. THE FRONT TWO TIRES WERE SO BAD DUE TO THE BALL JOINT/BEARINGS I HAD TO PURCHASE TWO NEW FRONT TIRES IN APRIL 2014. THAT'S WHEN I ACTUALLY NOTICED IT. I'M SURE THEY NEEDED REPLACEMENT SOONER THAN THAT. I WAS TOLD BOTH BALL BEARINGS AND SOMETHING CALLED A HUB BARRING TO BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT WHEEL WERE SO BAD THEY WERE SURPRISED I MADE IT THIS LONG WITHOUT THE WHEEL LOCKING UP ON ME. I'M $1800.00 IN THE HOLE DUE THE THIS PROBLEM. I'M NOW SEEING THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH JEEP COMPASS. THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING TO ACCOMMODATE ALL OF THEIR CUSTOMERS FOR THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL SPEWED OUT OF THE REFUELING ENTRANCE HOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE WAS FAULTY AND THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
CVT TRANSMISSION CAUSING WHINE UPON ACCELERATION AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT 70K MILES. WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY REPLACED AT 70K MILES. *TR
THE PART IS FRONT AND WHEEL HUB BEARINGS. TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REPAIRS AND THEY FOUND THAT THE FRONT AND REAR HUB BEARINGS ARE DETERIORATED BUT NO OTHER PART WAS. WAS ADVISED TO TAKE IT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP. I TOOK IT IMPERIAL JEEP IN MENDON, MA AND THEY CHECK IT AND COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THESE PARTS ARE DETERIORATED. SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY OFFERED TO PAY 50% BUT WAS NOT TOLD THAT THE OFFER WAS ONLY VALID FOR 30 DAYS SO WHEN I CALLED BACK WHICH WAS PAST THE 30 DAYS, I WAS INFORMED THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE ORIGINAL OFFER. NOT SURE WHERE I CAN GO FROM HERE. *TR
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LITE COMES ON RANDOMLY WHEN STARTING OR DRIVING LOCKS THE CAR IN LIMP MODE THEN ABS LITE COMES ON AND THE CAR SHAKES TILL YOU STOP AND TURN IT OFF. WHEN THE CAR IS IN LIMP MODE YOU CAN ONLY GET THE RPM'S UP TO 2000. CAR WENT FROM 60MPH TO 30 MPH IN ABOUT 100 YARDS ON THE HIGHWAY. WE HAVE ONLY OWNED THE JEEP FOUR MONTHS. *TR
TOOK INTO HAVE FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND WAS TOLD BALL JOINTS AND TIE RODS WERE BAD. WAS WITHOUT VEHICLE FOR OVER 10 DAYS AND THE COST WAS $750.00. GOT VEHICLE BACK AND WITHIN A WEEK HEARD A RUBBING SOUND WHICH TURNS OUT TO BE BAD WHEEL BEARINGS. WAITING FOR SERVICE SHOP TO CONTACT ME AS TO THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE WITH THAT. THE VEHICLE HAS UNDER 70,000 WHICH IS LESS THAN THE ESTIMATED 12,000 PER YEAR. THE VEHICLE IS NOT USED FOR ANY OFF ROAD DRIVING. OUR JEEP IS OUT OF DATE FOR WARRANTY, BUT UNDER 36,000 MILES. WE TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOLD THAT THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS ABSURD FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS LOW MILEAGE. WE WERE TOLD THAT "JEEP" KNOWS THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AND HAS SINCE CORRECTED IT IN NEWER MODELS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE...!! SO WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL FOR IT...? WHY DO I HAVE TO CARRY THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF A DESIGN FLAW...? THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2010. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET ONE OF THE TIRES REPLACED. THE AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS FOUND MULTIPLE PROBLEMS IN THE CONTROL ARM AND THE BALL JOINT OF THE WHEEL. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON TO JEEP COMPASS. I JUST WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS NOT SUPPOSE TO OCCUR UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN ALL THE TIME OR ALWAYS DRIVEN TO VERY FAR DESTINATIONS. IN THIS CASE, IT IS NOT. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM MIGHT BE CAUSE BY SOMETHING ELSE, LIKE BUMPS ON THE ROAD, OR A HEAVY OBJECT HIT ON THE ROAD. OVERTIME IT RAINS MY FRONT DOME LIGHT FILLS WITH WATER AND IT DRIPS/LEAKS/GUSHES OUT. BROUGHT IT IN SEVERAL TIMES, THEY "CLEAN THE FILTERS" BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE OCTOBER OF 2008 WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. I NOW DRIVE WITH A TOWEL TO HOLD OVER LIGHT OR I LAY IT ACROSS UNDER LIGHT TO CATCH THE WATER. THIS IS VERY DISTRACTING AND COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I ALSO HAD SO MUCH WATER LEAK INTO SHIFTING KNOB AREA THAT SOMETHING SHORTED OUT IN MY CAR AND IT STARTED ON ITS OWN! THERE WERE NO KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND IT WAS RUNNING. I WAS DRIVABLE WITH KEYS IN THE IGNITION, BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF! DROPPED IT AT DEALERS OVERNIGHT AND IT WAS DEAD IN THE MORNING. THIS TERRIFIED ME! HAD MY BARKING DOG NOT AWAKENED US, WE COULD HAVE BEEN POISONED WITH CARBON MONOXIDE. THIS IS WHY I KEEP A TOWEL IN THE CAR.

I STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION, AT THAT POINT MY CAR WOULD NO LONGER MOVE WHILE PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED MY TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. *TR

ON FREEWAY, SUDDENLY FELT NO POWER. CAR LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. GOT OFF FREEWAY, PUT CAR INTO PARK, WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE, STARTED UP AGAIN, SAME PROBLEM. RPMS GO UP, BUT NO MOMENTUM TO CAR EVEN WITH FOOT ON FLOOR ON GAS PEDAL. AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND KEY WAS TAKEN OUT, IT STARTED UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG. CAR REPAIR COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. HAS HAPPENED ABOUT HALF A DOZEN TIMES SINCE THEN, AS LONG AS KEY IS TAKEN OUT, IT WILL WORK FINE. UNTIL THIS LAST TIME, LAST WEEK. CAR DIED AGAIN ON FREEWAY, GOING FROM 70 MPH TO 20 MPH QUICKLY. LIMPED IT TO CAR SHOP, WHO FINALLY WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE - FOR AN ALMOST $800 REPAIR. CALLED AND COMPLAINED TO CHRYSLER WHO SAID BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER AND IT HAD TOO MANY MILES ON IT AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOT IN THE RECALL....THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO! WILL FIX AND SELL - ALONG WITH MY OTHER TWO JEEPS - WRANGLER AND CHEROKEE SPORT, WHICH I TOLD CHRYSLER AS WELL. *TR
THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE LOOSE AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING WERE WORN OUT. THE MECHANIC REPLACED RIGHT AND LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND INSTALLED NEW PINCH BOLTS, NUTS AND WASHERS. MY VEHICLE HAD ONLY 43,000 MILES WHEN THE ISSUE WAS DETECTED. I DO NOT DRIVE ON DIRT ROADS AND/OR DO ANY OFF ROADING. JEEP DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN ISSUE ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL BLOGS AND FORUMS WITH JEEP COMPASS AND PATRIOT OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES WITH VEHICLES HAVING FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE. *TR

THE STEERING BEGAN TO PULL SHARPLY TO THE SIDE. WHEN THE JEEP WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP, THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO GET THE PART IMMEDIATELY FROM THE DEALER BECAUSE THE PART WAS KEPT IN STOCK BECAUSE IT IS SO OFTEN REPLACED. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT LOWER BALL JOINTS TYPICALLY LAST AT LEAST TWICE AS LONG AS THESE AND THAT CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT REPLACEMENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN LOSING COMPLETE STEERING CONTROL. HE SAID HE BELIEVED THE LOWER BALL JOINTS TO HAVE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. UPON RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, HAVING TO REPLACE THEIR LOWER BALL JOINTS WITH EVEN FEWER MILES AND MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE SHOULD AT LEAST BE A SAFETY NOTIFICATION SENT OUT TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS OF THE DANGER CAUSED BY THIS DESIGN FLAW. WHEN I WROTE TO CHRYSLER, I RECEIVED A LETTER ASKING ME TO CALL TO DISCUSS THE MATTER. WHEN I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS UNWILLING TO ADMIT TO A FAULT IN THE PRODUCT. *TR
