NEW NEXXEN N5000 TIRES PLACED ON VEHICLE AND FRONT END ALIGNED. WITH IN 2 MONTHS TIRES SHOWED UNEVEN TIRE WEAR WITH WIRES SHOWING IN AREAS. SUBMITTED THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES UNDER WARRANTY FOR REPLACEMENTS. 3 MONTHS LATER AT AROUND 15,000 MILES REAR TIRE DEVELOPED KNOT/BUBBLE IN THE TIRE CAUSING THE CAR TO BOUNCE WHEN DRIVING. REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES WITH DIFFERENT BRAND. I WILL NEVER BUY NEXXEN TIRES AGAIN.
ETC AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME ON FOR NO REASON RESULTING IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50MPH. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY. ISSUE ALSO OCCURS WHILE MERGING/ TURNING WHILE ACCELERATING, CAR IS USUALLY STATIONERY FIRST. THIS ISSUE IS WIDE SPREAD IN THE JEEP COMMUNITY. HOPEFULLY THIS HASNT KILLED SOMEONE ALREADY.
FRONT SUB FRAME THAT HOLDS CONTROL ARMS ROTTED RIGHT OUT COULD LOSE FRONT TIRE
EVERYTHING I FILL THE GAS TANK AS SOON AS I LEAVE THE STATION THE CAR SPITS ANS SPUTTERS AND JERKS THEN STALLS THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE WHEN THE CAR STALLS THE STEERING STOPS WORKING PROPERLY WHILE THE CAR IN IN MOTION
THE REAR CROSSMEMBER/KFRAME IS COMPLETLY ROTTED THRU. ALMOST ALL OF THE SUSPENSION PARTS ARE VERY RUSTY AND NEEDS REPLACED. I DID NOT FIND OUT IT WAS THIS BAD UNTIL I HEARD A THUMPING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VECHICLE. DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON AND MAJOR PROBLEM.I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN THE THUMPING BEGAN. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAMILY CARS AND I AM SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE. I AM PARKING IT UNTIL I CAN GET IT FIXED. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY BLEW ME OFF. THEY SAID THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY COVERS 2007 MODELS BUT THIS IS A PROBLEM UP TO 2009.
THE GAS TANK WILL NOT TAKE GAS. I HAD THE CATALYT. COVERTER FIXED. THE VALVE INSIDE THE GAS TANK DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, AND MY RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP COMPASSES.

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, A BANGING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,300.
I WAS PUTTING A SET OF REAR BRAKE PADS ON THE VECHICLE WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE REAR CROSSMEMBER IS ROTTED OUT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE VECHICLE. CHRYSLER HAS TO PROMISED TO FIX THE 2007 MODELS, WHEN THE 2007, 2008, AND 2009 ALL SUFFER FROM THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TO PAY$1500.00 OUT OF MY POCKET FOR AN 8 YEAR OLD VECHICLE THAT SHOULD NOT BE THIS RUSTED OUT.
FRONT SUB FRAME ROTTED THRU FRONT END OF CAR FELL APART. NO WARNING. DRIVING THRU PARKING LOT, THANK GOD NOT ON HIGHWAY. SHOULD NOT HAVE ROTTED LIKE THAT ON 9 YEAR OLD CAR SOMEONE COULD'VE BEEN KILLED. CALLED JEEP THEY REFUSE TO PAY FOR NEW SUBFRAME EVEN THOUGH THEY COVER 2007 SUBFRAMES ROTTING. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE PEOPLE GET KILLED. COSTING US $1800.00, COULD'VE BEEN MUCH WORSE. DISGUSTED.
I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC FOR WORK AND WAS TOLD THAT MY SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 4 YEARS AND ONLY HAVE 110,000 MILES ON IT .HAVE NOT HAD A FAILURE AT THIS TIME BUT SEEING THAT I'M NEAR THE MILEAGE THAT OTHERS SEAM TO HAVE HAD THE FAILURE IT WORRIES ME.
I GOT MY 08 COMPASS IN 2014, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS OF RUSTING, BOLTS, ARM BEARINGS ETC...I HAVE FOR PAST 2 MONTHS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FILL MY GAS TANK AS IT ONLY TAKES ABOUT .20 CENTS AT A TIME. TRIED 4 DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. MY MECHANIC HAS TRIED ALL VACUMM SEALS, PUMPS, HOSES,VENTS, VAPOR CANISTER, VAPOR PURGE SOLNOID,AND CHECKING EVERYTHING FROM A TO B. SAID ONLY THING IT COULD BE WAS GAS TANK. WENT ONLINE AND GOOGLED FUELING ISSUES WITH JEEP COMPAS, THOUSANDS....AND THIS ISNT A PROBLEM FOR CHRYSLER. IF JEEPKNOWS ABOUT THIS, WHY ISNT THERE A RECALL. I CAN NOT SPEND 20 MINUTES TRYING TO FILL MY TANK WITH 2 SMALL BOYS, ONE WHO HAS SPECIAL NEEDS AND THE FULL SERVICE STATIONS REFUSE TO SERVICE ME. CHRYSLER/JEEP NEEDS TO HELP. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I NEED ANSWERSAND I CANT AFFORD 1200.00 TO FIX IT. CAR IS STOPPED, ENGINE OFF, NO MOTION. STOPPED IN GAS STATION. FUEL TANK IS DEFECTIVE AND CAN BE HAZARDOUS WHEN TRYING TO FILL TANK. I FINANCE THIS JEEP IN 2014. ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2YRS. CURRENTLY MAKING PAYMENTS ON THE CAR. MY JEEP JUST STOP RUNNING ON ME. TOOK IT IN FIRST PROBLEM THE ALTERNATOR HAD IT REPLACE. THEN WHILE DRIVING IT STOP RUNNING AGAIN NOW I'M TOLD IT'S MY TIPM. WHICH IS GONNA COST ME OVER $1,000 TO HAVE THAT REPLACE. DID SOME RESEARCH ON IT. I TOOK MY CAR TO A LICENSED AUTO REPAIR SHOP DUE TO A RATTLE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 84000 MILES ON IT AND NOW I DONT FEEL SAFE. SINCE PURCHASING IT I HAVE HAD TO PUT A WATER PUMP, POWER STEERING PUMP ON NEW BEARINGS IN THE FRONT AND. FRONT SUSPENSION. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE OIL CHANGES AND SUCH. THE CAR WAS BUILT IN 12/ 2007 . I NOTICED A RECALL ON 2007 JEEP COMPASS DUE TO BAD STEEL SO I BELIEVE MY 2008 COMPASS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO FAULTY PARTS.
THE CROSSMEMBER (SUBFRAME) IS ROTTING AWAY AND WHEN THIS PART FAILS A SERIOUS CRASH MAY RESULT. JEEP ISSUED A BULLETIN (23-012-14) FOR 2007 COMPASS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AUTHORIZING AN EXTENSION TO WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS AND IF FOUND TO REPAIR WITHOUT COST TO OWNER. JUST CALL JEEP ABOUT MY 2008 COMPASS AND THEY TOLD ME SINCE ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY HAS EXPERIED I WOULD BE 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR COST. FIRST OFF, THE CROSSMEMBER SHOULD NOT ROT AWAY AFTER ONLKY 8 YRS, SECOND SINCE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE 2007 HAD A PROBLEM , MY 2008 SHOULD BE INCLUDED. MOST IMPORTANTLY, SINCE THE FAILURE OF THIS PART COULD RESULT IN LACK OF CONTROL AND MAY CAUSE A CRASH RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL JEEPS TO INSPECT AND REPLACE ANY PARTS SHOWING SEVERE RUST AND ROTTING.
WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TWO DIFFERENT AUTO MECHANICS THAT THE FRAME OF OUR 2008 JEEP COMPASS IS SEVERELY CORRODED - MUCH MORE SEVERE THAN SHOULD BE FOR THE AMOUNT OF YEARS/MILES IT IS.

2008 JEEP COMPASS 115,000 MILES ROTTED SUBFRAME. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THANK YOU! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ARE NOT FIXING IT ON THE 2008. NOISE STARTED WHILE DRIVING ON 7/6/16. *TR
I PURCHASED MY CAR NEW IN 2007 WITH 98 MILES ON IT. IN 2011, WITH NEARLY 40,000 MILES, BOTH MY FRONT CONTROL ARMS NEEDED REPLACED. I HAVE SINCE NEEDED THEM (ALONG WITH THE TIRES) REPLACED AT LEAST 5 TIMES. GRANTED, I NOW HAVE OVER 140K MILES ON MY CAR, BUT THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAPPEN ON A REGULAR BASIS. I'VE HAD AT LEAST 3 MECHANICS TELL ME THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS REPAIRS MADE ON OTHER COMPASS VEHICLES AND TO "HOLD ON TO MY RECEIPTS" IF THERE IS A RECALL.

RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 JEEP COMPASS FROM A PRIVATE OWNER IN OHIO. WE WENT FOR INSPECTION AS REQUIRED IN PENNSYLVANIA WHERE WE LIVE. THE JEEP FAILED BECAUSE THE CROSS MEMBER FRAME WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS A DEFECT IN HOW THE JEEP WAS MANUFACTURED. THE PLACEMENT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER WITH THE CONSTANT DRIPPING AND CONDENSATION PLUS THE USE OF ROAD SALT IN OHIO CAUSED THE FRAME TO CORRODE. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS RECALLED 2007 AND OLDER JEEPS BUT IS NOT HONORING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE 2008 AND NEWER MODELS EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM IN THE DESIGN. THE REPAIRS ARE GOING TO COST OVER 1500.00 DOLLARS WITH NO GUARANTEE IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN JUST BY USING THE AIR CONDITIONER. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPLAIN OR SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS BEFORE CHRYSLER WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM? EVERY JEEP NO MATTER WHAT YEAR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL.

WHILE ME AND FIANCE DRIVE DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65-70MPH ON A HOT DAY, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE LIGHT TURNS ON AND WE LOSE ALMOST ALL POWER AND CANT GET IT TO GO. WE HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE TRANS COOLER, TRANS LINES,AND TRANS FLUID. BUT THE ISSUE IS STILL HAPPENING. IT IS ALMOST GETTING TO THE POINT OF WHETHER WE SHOULD EVEN TRY TO GET IT FIXED OR WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO FIX IT. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED WE HAD ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE HIT A POTHOLE AND BEGAN TO DECREASE IN SPEED. THE CONTACT OBSERVED A METAL PIECE HANGING UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME, REAR CROSS MEMBER, AND LOWER CONTROL ARM WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,051.
WAS UNDER OUR 2008 COMPASS WHILE CHANGING THE SERPENTINE BELT AND NOTICE SEVERE RUST ROT ON THE SUBFRAME. CAN ACTUALLY PUSH MY FINGERS THROUGH IT. I SEE THAT THE 2005 THROUGH 2007 MODELS HAVE A RECALL ON THE SUBFRAME BUT NOT THE 2008 MODEL EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS.
I HAVE HAD MY 2008 JEEP COMPASS FOR APPROXIMATELY 14 MONTHS, AND JUST RECENTLY I THOUGHT I HAD A TIE ROD THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A VERY LOUD KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE AND THE CAR PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT. I TOOK IT TO BE INSPECTED AND AS SOON AS THE MECHANIC GOT IT UP ON THE LIFT HE IMMEDIATELY SET IT BACK DOWN. THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS SO BADLY RUSTED THROUGH HE WAS AFRAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE WOULD FALL THROUGH. I AM CURRENTLY OUT OF A CAR AS THE MECHANIC DEEMED IT EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE THE CAR BACK HOME. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR THE SUBFRAME ON THE 2007 MODEL YEAR, MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN 12/2007 SO I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT MY CAR WAS MADE WITH PARTS AFFECTED IN THE RECALL OF THE 2007 MODEL YEAR.
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE TO A LOCAL PLACE (NOT DEALER). HE TOLD ME THAT THE CRADLE/K FRAME WAS EXTREMELY RUSTED AND LOOKED DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, HE RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND SEE IF IT COULD BE REPAIRED THERE AT NO CHARGE TO ME, HE SAID AN 8 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT MUCH RUST. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT GANDRUD JEEP (GREEN BAY, WI) TODAY AND THEY CONFIRMED THE CRADLE/K BAR WAS THOROUGHLY RUSTED AND HAD A LARGE CRACK IN IT. THEY TOLD ME THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND JEEP EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS ON THE FRAME SO THIS COULD BE REPAIRED FOR NO CHARGE. THEY ALSO TOLD ME IT WAS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IT AND THAT I SHOULDN'T. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TOMORROW TO HAVE IT REPLACED, IT'S GOING TO COST APPROXIMATELY $1200 TO REPLACE THAT PIECE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS SITES/BLOGS/COMMENTS ON OWNERS OF THE 2008 JEEP COMPASS HAVING A COMPLETELY ROTTED FRAME AND FRUSTRATION THAT THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S MODEL WAS RECALLED/EXTENDED WARRANTY SO IT COULD BE REPLACED. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS FAULTY PIECE THAT THE OWNERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF AND REPLACED. I DON'T BELIEVE WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR, THERE IS CLEARLY SOME ISSUE WITH THE COATING ON THIS PIECE THAT CAUSES IT TO RUST SO QUICKLY AND COMPLETELY. I AM LUCKY THAT THE GUY CHANGING MY OIL MENTIONED IT TO ME, I USUALLY WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE BUT THEY'RE OUT OF THE WAY. I ALSO AM CONCERNED THAT EVERY 3-4 MONTHS I GET AN OIL CHANGE AND GANDRUD NEVER MENTIONED IT TO ME, I DON'T KNOW HOW QUICKLY THIS PART RUSTED OR IF THEY NOTICED. PLEASE CONSIDER RECALLING THIS PART, THIS RUSTED BAR COULD CAUSE MANY ISSUES (EVEN FATAL) IF LEFT ALONE. I ALSO TOOK A FEW PICTURES THAT I WILL BE SENDING INTO JEEP.
SO THIS AMONG OTHER ISSUES START LATE LAST YEAR WITH OUR 2008 COMPASS. WAS SITTING AT STOP LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE JUST STALLED OUT. JEEP STARTED RIGHT UP AND WAS FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. MY WIFE DRIVES IT MORE THEN I DO AND SHE SAYS IT STUTTERS QUITE FREQUENTLY AND OFTEN TRIES TO STALL OUT. MOST RECENTLY, IT STALLED OUT DROPPING THE KIDS OFF IN THE DROP OFF LINE. THIS TIME IT TOOK 1-2 MINUTES TO RE START. NO ENGINE LIGHT, NO WARNING, NOTHING. TOOK IT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT DAY FOR THEM TO TAKE IT A LOOK AT IT. BUT OF COURSE LIKE MANY CONSUMERS ON HERE AND OTHER SITES, THEY CANNOT FIND THE ISSUE. THEY DROVE MY JEEP FREQUENTLY FOR 2 DAYS AND STILL THEY CANNOT FIGURE THE PROBLEM. SO LIKE MANY OTHERS, WE ARE STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT HAS ISSUES THAT DO NOT SHOW THEMSELVES. I HAVE SENT THIS ISSUE TO MY LOCAL TV STATION TO MAY BE HELP INVESTIGATE WHY THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AS ITS A SAFETY CONCERN. CLEARLY THIS IS AN ISSUE AS THERE ARE A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO GET HURT OR DIE BEFORE THEY SEND OUT A RECALL? SO WE ARE FORCED TO LOOK INTO A NEW VEHICLE (NOT A JEEP COMPASS) BECAUSE WE DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. IT SHOULD NOT BE THAT WAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE NEAR THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, THE SUBFRAME, CONTROL ARM, AND CROSSMEMBER BAR WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL FILTER WAS CORRODED AND NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
RECENTLY MY 2008 JEEP COMPASS STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH REFUELING. IT WOULD SPIT FUEL BACK OUT ANYTIME I TRIED TO FILL THE TANK. THE DEALER CLEANED THE CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK, BUT IT ONLY LASTED FOR ONE FILL UP. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! TODAY, FUEL CAME GUSHING BACK OUT AND SOAKED MY PANTS LEG AND SHOES. CHRYSLER HAS RECALLED OTHER JEEP MODELS (AND OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES) FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, MINE IS NOT BEING RECALLED BECAUSE THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FOR MY MODEL. YET I LOOK ONLINE AND SEE MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE FAULTY FUEL TANKS AND REGARDLESS OF RECALL STATUS, THEY SHOULD BE REPLACING FUEL TANKS FOR ANYONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM! MY JEEP ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME TODAY IN FUEL SOAKED PANTS AND NOW THE INTERIOR OF MY JEEP STINKS OF FUEL! THERE IS NO TELLING WHAT COULD HAPPEN WITH THIS FUEL TANK IN AN ACCIDENT. WHEN THE HEAT OF SUMMER GETS HERE AND MY FUEL TANK ISN'T VENTING PROPERLY IT COULD BE AN EVEN BIGGER SAFETY RISK! PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE ASAP! I CAN'T AFFORD $1,000 TO REPLACE A FAULTY PLASTIC FUEL TANK!
CAR HAS ~79,000 MILES. IT STALLS AFTER FILLING UP EVERY TIME. AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINS OF KEEPING THE IDLE UP BY PUSHING THE GAS THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO GO AWAY. I'VE READ THAT THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS LINE OF VEHICLES (INCLUDING PATRIOT).
DURING MY ANNUAL INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT BOTH MY FRONT AND REAR CROSS FRAME MEMBERS WERE SO SEVERELY RUSTED THAT IT TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE TILL THEY ARE REPLACED. I CALL THE DEALER WHO THE JEEP WAS BOUGHT FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT ONLY THE 2007 MODELS HAVE AN EXTENDED FRAME PROTECTION WARRANTEE THAT COVERS THIS PROBLEM. MY JEEP WAS BUILT ON 8/14/07 LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AFTER JEEPS CUTOFF DATE. AFTER INVESTIGATING I FOUND THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL HUNDRED CASES LIKE MINE THAT JEEP REFUSES TO COVER. THE FRAME SHOULD NOT BE FAILING THIS FAST AND AS BAD. I FEEL THERE IS A MATERIAL DESIGN FLAW THAT JEEP IS TRYING TO COVER. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. MY JEEP HAS NO VISUAL RUST IT LOOKS BRAND NEW. UNLESS THE OWNER OR MECHANIC CRAWLS UNDERNEATH THIS CAN GO UN NOTICED UNTIL THERE IS A MAJOR FAILURE.
CAR DROVE FINE. WENT TO WORK FOR 8 HOURS. CAME OUT AND THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN OVER. REPLACED THE BATTERY AND STARTER. STILL NOTHING. CALLED A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT IT WAS THE WIRELESS CONTROL MODULAR. AFTER REACHING IN THE INTERNET LOOKS LIKE MANY 2008 JEEP COMPASS' HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM.
I TOOK MY JEEP COMPASS IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WHEN THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE SUBFRAME (CROSS MEMBER AND CONTROL ARM) WHICH SECURED THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE MECHANIC ASKED ME TO TAKE A LOOK. THE HOLE WAS SO LARGE I COULD PUT MY HAND IN IT AND THE CRACK RAN ALONG THE ENTIRE CROSSMEMBER. HE CAUTIONED ME TO NOT DRIVE IT UNTIL IT WAS REPLACED, SAYING THAT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COULD FALL OUT AT ANY TIME AND COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. ALSO NOTED WAS PLAY IN THE RIGHT OUTER TIE ROD AND RIGHT LOWER BALL JOINT. MY VEHICLE HAD JUST TURNED THE 100K MILE MARK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. IF I HAD NOT TAKE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, THIS MAY HAVE NOT BEEN DISCOVERED RESULTING IN SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. CALLS TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE EVENTUALLY RESULTED IN A REDUCTION IN THE COST OF PARTS (2007 COMPASS WAS RECALLED FOR SAME ISSUE). MY BILL IS STILL OVER $1,000 AND WOULD LIKE CHRYSLER TO COVER THE COST OF LABOR AND PARTS. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS USED WERE FROM THE 2007 RECALL. THIS IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A VEHICLE 7.5 YEARS OLD. I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS. IF THAT'S THE CASE, THEY SHOULD ISSUE A DISCLAIMER OR SAFETY WARNING WHEN SELLING JEEPS IN AREAS THAT HAVE SNOW AND SALT. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR MONTHS, IF NOT LONGER, IN A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE.THE JEEP COMPASS 2007 WAS RECALLED AND CHRYSLER PACIFICA FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. APPARENTLY, NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS HAVE WARRANTED A 2008 RECALL.
THE K FRAME IS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE. OUR MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO STABILIZE THIS, BUT STATES THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED THAT HE CAN PUSH A SCREWDRIVER THROUGH WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT. IT NEEDS REPLACED. WE CONTACTED OUR DEALER, AND WERE TOLD THAT ONLY THE 2007 MODELS ARE COVERED BY A SAFETY RECALL.
THE CLOCK SPRING WAS GOING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. IT STARTED AS A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE AXLE SHAFT AND REPLACED IT AND STILL HAD THE SAME NOISE. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND THEY FOUND THE CLOCK SPRING WAS BAD. HE SAID THAT WHEN THESE GO YOUR STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP. ALSO, UPON CALLING JEEP FOR THE PART HE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED TO THE RIGHT. SPARKS AND FLAMES APPEARED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FLAMES EXTINGUISHED THEMSELVES AND THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AT HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, AND BEARING SEIZED. THE FRONT AXLE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND REMAINED INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 171,000.
SUB FRAME ROT, SUB FRAME THAT SUPPORTS THE ENGINE. LOCAL JEEP SERVICE CENTER SAID IT WAS IN NEED OF REPAIRS SOON. JEEP RECALLED THE 2007 COMPASS FOR JUST THIS ISSUE, THERE'S OBVIOUS DEFECT. OTHERS WITH 2008 COMPASS IS REPORTING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.
MY COMPASS CREAKS AND RATTLES LOUDLY OVER BUMPS. TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT THE SUBFRAMES WERE ROTTED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE SUBFRAMES, BUT ALSO REPLACEMENT OF THE CONTROL ARMS, LINKS, AS WELL AS THE NEED FOR AN ALIGNMENT.THIS CAR IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN THE RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 COMPASS AND HAVE SEEN MANY INSTANCES FOR THE 2008 JEEP COMPASS ON SAFERCAR.GOV AND ELSEWHERE ON THE INTERNET. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE ISSUE THAT PLAGUED THE 2007 MODEL YEAR IS THE SAME WITH THE 2008'S. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE 2008 JEEP COMPASS SUBFRAME IS THE SAME COMPONENT USED IN THE 2007 MODEL. IF YES, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WOULD NOT HAVE ALSO RECALLED THE 2008 MODELS.
WHINING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE OVER 65 MPH. HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION BEFORE. DID REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THE JEEP COMPASS. DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND NOTICED TRANSMISSION OIL LIGHT CAME ON. COULDN'T MOVE IN THE GEARS. HAD TO PULL OVER FOR A 1 HR TO LET CAR COOL OFF. LATER DROVE TO MY MECHANIC. NO CODE FOUND. TOOK IT TO A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND HE TOLD THAT THESE 2008 JEEP COMPASS HAVE BAD TRANSMISSION DESIGN AND THEY GO OUT AROUND 130,000 TO 145,000. I NEED NEW FLUID, TRANSMISSION COOLER, ADJUSTMENT BUT I OPTED TO JUST GET THE A NEW TRANSMISSION SINCE THAT IS A BAD DESIGN FOR THAT PARTICULAR MODEL. MANUFACTURER SHOULD OPEN A RECALL ON THESE JEEPS. THE LOCATION WHERE I TOOK MINE ALREADY HAD SEVERAL IN FOR REPAIRS.

I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND NOTICED A MUFFLED HUMMING NOISE, LOCATED IT UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WAS COMING FROM THE T.I.P.M. THEN MY VEHICLE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP, INTERIOR OVERHEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT, DOOR LOCKS AND SECURITY SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING, HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, A/C STOPPED COOLING, WIPERS, TURN SIGNALS STOPPED. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, AND THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF WORKED. I TRIED TO LEAVE QUICKLY TO GO HOME, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T COME OUT OF PARK BECAUSE APPARENTLY THAT IS ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED ALSO. I LOOKED UP ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THE FUSE BOX/ TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULATOR IS WHERE THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. IT IS THE BRAIN OF THE CAR. I READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF THIS VEHICLE MAKERS MODELS WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS THAT WERE DRIVING WHEN THERE CONTROLS AND LIGHTS AND SIGNALS GO OUT. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY MALFUNCTIONS THAT THE PART WAS/IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. THIS COULD GET NOT ONLY THE OWNERS AND FAMILIES HURT, BUT OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. IF YOUR CAR DEVELOPS BRAIN DAMAGE WHILE IN OPERATION. APPARENTLY THE COMPANY IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT THIS. IT CONTROLS ALL AREAS OF FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE AND YOU CANT PROPERLY OR SAFELY OPERATE A VEHICLE WITHOUT IT.
I HAD MY JEEP IN FOR IT'S YEARLY INSPECTION. DURING THE INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED MY CONTROL ARMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD JUST HAD THEM REPLACED DURING THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S INSPECTION. HE ALSO FOUND THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SUBFRAME IS RUSTING THROUGH. I CONTACTED THE DEALER (I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR JUST OVER TWO YEARS) AND WAS ONLY TOLD THERE IS NOT OPEN RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
AFTER DRIVING 311 MILES FORM OCEAN CITY MD, WE STOPPED FOR A REST AT 179 N PLAZA ACCESS RD, SOMERSET, PA 15501. AFTER AN ESTIMATED 30 MINUTE BREAK, WE RETURNED TO THE JEEP FILLED WITH SMOKE. UPON GETTING MY FAMILY TO SAFETY, CLEARING THE DRIVER'S AROUND THE JEEP, CALLING 9-11, AND PULLING OUR LUGGAGE OUT OF THE JEEP, I DETERMINED THE REAR CARPET UNDER NEATH THE REAR COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. I REMOVED IT AND EXTINGUISHED IT. WHAT WAS FOUND AT MY LOCAL GARAGE WAS A CORRODED HOLE ON TOP OF THE MUFFLER (WHICH CAN ONLY BE DIAGNOSED BY REACHING IN AND OVER THE MUFFLER) WAS VENTING EXHAUST AND WAS SO HOT IT CAUSED THE REAR FRAME TO REACH A TEMPERATURE THAT IGNITED THE CARPET AROUND THE SPARE TIRE. THERE ARE VISIBLE BURN MARKS IN THE REAR AS WELL. THANKFULLY THIS DID NOT HEAT THE GAS TANK TO THE POINT OF IGNITION. MY JEEP DOES NOT HAVE A HEAT SHIELD BETWEEN THE FRAME AND THE MUFFLER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT REPAIR THE MUFFLER AS THEY SAY IT A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURE. I AM CONCERNED FOR OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS OR JEEPS IN GENERAL THAT HAVE NO HEAT SHIELD AND COULD HAVE THIS TYPE OF CORROSION.
2008 JEEP COMPASS ENGINE CRADLE FAILED NYS INSPECTION DUE TO PREMATURE RUSTING. 2007 MODEL YEAR WAS EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS ON ENGINE CRADLE BECAUSE OF PREMATURE RUSTING. MY JEEP WAS MANUFACTURED IN MARCH OF 2008. I AM SURE THE ENGINE CRADLE PART WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2007 AND PLACED INTO THE 2008 BECAUSE NO REPLACEMENT OR UPDATE WAS MADE TO THE PART BETWEEN 2007 AND 2008. JEEP REFUSED TO COVER THE 2008 WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIR. THIS PART IF NOT REPAIRED AND DURING AN ACCIDENT WILL CAUSE SERIOUS STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS AND THE FAILED NYS INSPECTION NOTICE. I HAVE ALSO MADE A COPY OF THIS REPORT FOR MY RECORDS.
