The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Compass. The contact initially became aware that the rear passenger’s side tire was resting at an angle. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the rear struts replaced; however, the mechanic informed the contact that the rear suspension was extremely corroded. The contact was also informed that the vehicle was not safe to be driven. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.
Jeep extended the warranty for the front and rear body subframes. I had my vehicle inspected at the onset of the warranty. I again had an inspection done at my local dealer on 4/15/2022. Since that date the vehicle has been driven approximately 7000 miles. A week ago as I was making a turn at traffic speed I heard a thumping sound. On 11/12/2023 with the vehicle on jackstands it was confirmed that the rear subframe on the drivers side had completely broken and the subframe on the passenger side was rusted through as well. I called Jeep US on 11/14/2023 and it was stated that the warranty was no longer in effect with them. I believe the inspection was either not completed properly or the damage was already in process. This could have resulted in a horrific incident as there were no warning signs and thinking that the inspection had not shown any potential hazard.

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard with several warning lights illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle would overheat with the temperature gauge indicating that the engine was hot. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where she was informed that the electronic stability control module was defective. The contact replaced the battery; however, the failure immediately returned and the brake failure worsened. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was informed about my rotting subframe on my 2009 Jeep Compass about a year ago. I took it to a Jeep dealer for a second opinion as well as contacted Jeep. I was told about some extended warranty that I was not eligible for. Now, 1 year later, my vehicle will not pass inspection without replacement of the subframe. I contacted Jeep again. Of course, since this was extension of warranty, only the original owners were notified. This should have been a recall. This is a safety hazzard and should not have happened to vehicle just over 10 years. Jeep purposely did not issue a recall to save money.
FRONT KFRAME/SUBFRAME CROSS MEMBER RUSTED INTO. FRONT OF LF LOWER CONTROL ARM PULLED OUT OF SUBRAME BECAUSE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED INTO AT THAT SPOT. ALSO BACK SEEM FROM LEFT SIDE ALL THE WAY TO RIGHT SIDE HAS ABOUT A 1 INCH SEAM/TEAR FROM RUST
SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE THROUGHOUT CHRYSLER VEHICLES. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE ENGINE CUT DOWN TO 30 MPH AND INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL AND "RED LIGHTNING BOLT" (ETC ELECTRONIC THROTTLEBODY CONTROL). WHAT IS HAPPENING IS YOUR COMPUTER HAS DETECTED SOMETHING WRONG AND HAS GONE INTO LIMP MODE WHICH IS ALLOWING THE VEHICLE ONLY ENOUGH POWER TO GET OFF THE ROAD (LIMP OFF THE ROAD). IT APPEARS DEALERS AND MECHANICS DON'T KNOW OR AREN'T TELLING. DON'T TELL THEM I HAVE THE SOLUTION, THEY ARE IN BUSINESS TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF YOU, DON'T GIVE THEM A HAND UP. THEY MAY WANT TO REPLACE YOUR THROTTLE BODY WHICH THEY CHARGE OVER $1,000 FOR AND IT DOESN'T FIX THE ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS CALIBRATION BETWEEN YOUR ACCELERATOR (GAS PEDDLE) POSITION SENSOR, COMPUTER AND ETC (THROTTLE) SENSOR. IT WILL COST YOU $0 AND 10 SECONDS TO SOLVE. GET IN, TURN THE KEY TO "ACCESSORY" POSITION JUST BEFORE TURNING THE ENGINE ON. LET ALL THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS ON THE DASH RESET. ENGINE, "RED LIGHTNING BOLT" AND (IF EBRAKE IS ENGAGED) BRAKE LIGHTS SHOULD BE ON. NOW PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR AND COUNT TO TEN. THE "RED BOLT" LIGHT SHOULD NOW TURN OFF AND YOU HAVE JUST RETEACHED OR CALIBRATED YOUR POSITION SENSOR. TURN THE KEY BACK OFF AND THEN TURN ON YOUR VEHICLE AND ENJOY THE RIDE.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY FERRARIO AUTO TEAM OF SAYRE (102 SPRING ST, SAYRE, PA 18840, (570) 888-2367) THAT THE VEHICLE'S FRONT CROSS MEMBER BAR WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE PART; HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2009 JEEP COMPASS MANUAL TRANSMISSION ENGINE STALLING INTERMITTENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND ALSO AT IDLING. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT USUALLY STARTS BACK UP AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. ALSO, VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT START, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH LIGHT UP, BATTERY IS GOOD, NOTHING WRONG WITH STARTER. SOMETIMES IT WILL START WITHIN MINUTES, OTHER TIMES IT STARTS AFTER A DAY OR TWO... RANDOM. BREAK PEDAL USUALLY VERY STIFF. HAVE HAS IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ONLY HAVE IT START AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS MAINTAINED ITSELF ON APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS, AND EVERY 10-15 MINUTES IT SENDS ME AN ALARM, WARNING ME THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG, AND THAT THE AIRBAG IS NOT FUNCTIONING ACCORDINGLY.THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS BEING IN USE AND IN MARCH.
THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED HOME BECAUSE THE FRONT WHEELS LOOK LIKE A BOW-LEGGED COWBOY BECAUSE THE SUBFRAME BASICALLY SNAPPED AS WE WERE DRIVING. APPARENTLY THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE AND JEEP REFUSES TO RECALL THIS. 2007 HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY EXTENDED A "WARRANTY" TO GET THIS FIXED. 2009 IS MADE, OBVIOUSLY WITH THE SAME JUNK METAL, AND YET THEY REFUSE TO FIX THEIR INCOMPETENCE. WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED DUE TO THIS NEGLIGENCE. NOT HAPPY JEEP.
TAKATA RECALL...AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND THERES NOTHING/ NOBODY IN PASSENGER SEAT.
WHILE DRIVING THE LEFT (FRONT DRIVER SIDE) LOWER CONTROL ARM FELL FREE FROM THE STEERING KNUCKLE WHICH ATTACHES IT TO THE WHEEL, CAUSING SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN THE ABILITY TO STEER AND EVENTUALLY THE LOWER CONTROL ARM (MOVING LOSE UNDER THE CAR), BECAME LODGED BETWEEN THE WHEEL RIM AND THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE THE LEFT FRONT TIRE TO SHIFT FORWARD INTO THE FRONT FENDER / BUMPER AND BECOME IMMOBILE. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE MADE IT HOME AND IT WAS IN PARKING THE VEHICLE THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BECAME WEDGED BETWEEN THE TIRE INNER RIM AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY, SO NO CRASH OR INJURY OCCURRED, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS.
SUBFRAME IS FRONT OF CAR IS ROTTED OUT. HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE.
FRONT SUBFRAME ROTTED OUT ON 2009 WITH ONLY 90,000 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF DRIVING AND BRAKES, WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. MY MECHANIC SAID THIS SHOULD NOT BE THIS ROTTED FOR A CAR OF THIS AGE. I BROUGHT IT TO MECHANIC FOR LEAKING OIL, AND WHEN HE LIFTED IT HE SAW RUST. THE OIL PAIN IS NOW GETTING REPLACED FOR CORROSION.
SUB FRAME ROTTED OUT - SAFETY ISSUE
MY SON CAME FROM GETTING AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD HIS JEEP COMPASS IS DANGEROUS TO BE ON THE ROAD. FRONT SUB FRAME IS RUSTED OUT AND COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. SUBFRAME SHOULD NOT BE BAD ON A 2009 VEHICLE.
THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER IS RUSTED OUT TOTALLY. CANNOT BE DRIVEN VERY UNSAFE
IT HAS RAPIDLY RUSTED OUT (SUB FRAME). I HAVE OWNED IT FOR A YEAR AND A HALF AND IT WAS NOT THAT WAY WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IS THERE A RECALL?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT FAILURE CODE: CU10001 FOR THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WAS NOT RECEIVING CONNECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
VEHICLE STATIONARY-ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON EVERY TIME I PUT GAS IN VEHICLE DUE TO SMALL LEAK IN EMISSION SYSTEM AT GAS FILL NECK AND GAS CAP. APPEARS TO BE DUE TO FORMATION OF BROWN SUBSTANCE ON METAL GAS NECK. NEW GAS CAP HELPS FOR ABOUT 3 OR 4 FILL-UPS BEFORE IT BECOMES CONTAMINATED WITH THE BROWN SUBSTANCE.
IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE, I JUST FOUND OUT THAT BOTH ARE NEED OF REPLACEMENT AGAIN AND IT THE COST IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. JEEP NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THIS. I UNDERSTAND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE.
WHEN COMING TO A QUICK STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A VERY ROUGH ROAD SURFACE, A LOUD CLUNK IN THE FRONT END WAS HEARD. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TO BE TURNED RIGHT TO GO STRAIGHT, ALONG WITH A LOUD TIRE SQUEAL. WE PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT TO FIND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS CONTACTING THE REAR OF THE WHEEL WELL. INSPECTION UNDERNEATH REVEALED A ROTTED OUT SUBFRAME/CROSSMEMBER WHICH IS SPLIT ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BACK. IT ALSO HAS SOME LEAKING FLUID COMING DOWN FROM ABOVE THE CROSSMEMBER WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THIS IS SATURDAY AND THE INCIDENT WAS FOLLOWED BY A $135 FLATBED TRIP TO A DEALERSHIP FOR WHAT SHOULD BE AN INTERESTING MONDAY MORNING CONVERSATION ABOUT THE HORRIFIC POSSIBILITIES IF THIS SUSPENSION HAD COLLAPSED AT SPEED.
FRONT SUBFRAME IS ROTTED OUT DUE TO CONDENSER DRAIN DRIPPING ON IT. FOUND OUT 9/3/ 17 DURING OIL CHANGE. WAS SERVICE BULLETIN 23-012-14 FOR THIS BUT ON VEHICLES AFTER 8/25/2005 AND BEFORE 7/23/2007. SEE ? BELOW WHEN HAPPENED. I JUST FOUND OUT
THE REAR SUB FRAME RUSTED OUT AND HAVE WAY WHILE MY NIECE WAS DRIVING IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. AND TO NEW OF A CAR FOR THIS. THE REAR SUB FRAME GAVE OUT WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING.
THE CAR WILL NOT START. GET IN THE CAR, TURN THE KEY, NO SOUND FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO CLICKING, NOTHING. THE RADIO WORKS, THE FAN WORKS, THE LIGHTS WORK. HAVE CHECKED THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, NONE OF THAT IS THE PROBLEM. SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH JEEPS BASED ON INTERNET SEARCH. HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE. DOES NOT PUT OUT A CODE FOR A CODE READER TO SCAN AND REPORT.
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE CAR WILL STALL AFTER THE GAS NOZZLE HAS CLICKED OFF THAT THE TANK IS FULL. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE (AFTER A FEW TRIES) AND BEGINNING TO DRIVE, THE CAR WILL LURCH AND SPUTTER WITHIN A FEW SECONDS TO MINUTES OF LEAVING THE GAS STATION. WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF GETTING FUEL, ALL PROBLEMS SEEM TO STOP AND CAR OPERATES FINE UNTIL THE NEXT TIME YOU FILL THE FUEL TANK.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK DEC 23 MORNING AND REAR SUB FRAME BROKE AWAY FROM CONTROL ARM SENDING ME IN THE DITCH..LUCKY IT WAS 25 MPH. HAD LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER LOOK AT IT AND BECAUSE IT WAS.MADE IT CANADA THEY WON'T FIX IT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRNTY.. I JUST GOT THIS IN JUNE, AND STILL OWE 6500 ON IT.. CHRYSLER NEEDED TO STEP UP.. WHAT DOES IT MATTER WERE THE JEEP WAS MADE.YOUR PARTS WERE THE PROBLEM SO FIX IT..I COULD HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF FRAME ROT.. NEVER HAD A ISSUE IN MY 95 BLAZER!!
THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS ROTTED. THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN GETTING AN OIL CHANGE.
SUBFRAME ROT. AT 70,000 MILE STEERING CONTROL WAS LOST DUE TO A CRACK IN THE FRONT SUBFRAME CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE RUST/ROT. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO INJURIES SINCE THIS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED. THE FRONT SUBFRAME HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE WITH A 12 INCH LATERAL CRACK THROUGH THE CROSS MEMBER. THIS CAUSED TOTAL FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING FAILURE. THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN OR MOVED UNDER ITS OWN POWER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR JEEP COMPASS, JEEP PATRIOT AND DODGE CALIBER. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HURT OR KILLED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE EMITTED A LOUD NOISE WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS CORRODED DUE TO DEFECTIVE METAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH UP AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIGOROUSLY JERK AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STATIONARY, THE CROSS MEMBER OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED SEVERELY. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING THE CROSS MEMBER REPLACED. IT WAS UNKNOWN WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAIKURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 101,000.
THEY (DEALERS) KEEP SAYING MY WIRING HARNESS NEEDS REPLACE. THEY REPLACE IT ONCE ON 7/11/16 CAUSE MY RADIATOR FAN WOULD NOT COME ON AND THEY REPLACE THE TIMP. NOW THE FAN WON'T TURN OFF EVEN WHEN THE KEY IS OUT. MILES ON THIS IS 130,859 I BELIEVE THERE A ISSUE WITH THIS WIRING HARNESS P/N 68043111AB AND THE TIMP P/N RL028007AD CHECK AND SEE HOW MANY REPLACEMENTS THEY PUT IN THESE MODELS. I WENT TO A JUNK YARD AND ALL THE COMPASS'S TIMP OR FUSE BOX HAD BEEN REMOVED.
2008 JEEP LIMITED 4 X 4. WHEN CLEANING THE GARAGE, I NOTICED THE HEAD FROM A VERY LARGE BOLT ON THE FLOOR. UPON CRAWLING UNDER THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT A BOLT HAD ROTTED OFF WHERE THE REAR FRAME RIGHT SIDE BY THE SHOCK TOWER ATTACHES TO THE BODY. I HAVE HAD NOISES COMING FROM THE AREA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SHOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WITH THIS BOLT MISSING THERE IS SOME CHANCE THERE IS EXCESS BOUNCE BETWEEN THE UPPER SHOCK TOWER AND THE FRAME. MY LOCAL BODY SHOP TOLD ME THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS WOULD BE TO DROP THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE AND GET THE BROKEN BOLT OUT TO REPLACE. VERY EXPENSIVE. THERE IS NO WAY A BOLT LIKE THIS SHOULD ROT OFF, UNLESS THE BOLTS WERE BAD TO START WITH. IF THIS HAPPENS TO A FEW MORE I COULD HIT A BUMP AND HAVE THE BODY FALL OFF THE FRAME WHILE DRIVING.
WHILE DRIVING FROM NORCAL TO SOCAL DRIVING 80+MPH FOR 2 OR MORE HOURS THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I STARTED TO LOOSE POWER-PULLED OFF THE ROAD LET IT COOL DOWN AND IT RESTARTED AND DROVE 65 THE REST OF THE WAY WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. 3 WEEKS LATER HEARING LOUD ENGINE NOISES WHEN STARTING AND DRIVING BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE RADIATOR LIGHT AND SMOKE WAS SEEN BEHIND ME I PULLED OVER TO FIND MY SERPENTINE BELT WAS EATEN AWAY AND SNAPPED. THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY IS SIEZED UP NOW. ALL OF THIS WITHIN A YEAR OF A NEW TRANSMISSION AND NEW RADIATOR WAS INSTALLED BY PROFESSIONALS.
OUR JEEP HAS A ROTTED SUBFRAME WHICH POSES A SAFETY RISK. WE HAVE THE LIFETIME MAXCARE WARRANTY WITH CHRYSLER, HOWEVER, THEY DENIED OUR CLAIM AND ADVISED US TO CONTACT JEEP, BUT JEEP INDICATED THEY COULD DO NOTHING. $3000 REPAIR!!!! WE HAVE REPLACED BEARINGS OVER 6 TIMES IN THIS VEHICLE TOO. JEEP INDICATED THEIR WAS A "BULLETIN", NOT RECALL, ISSUED ON EXTENDING THE FRAME WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS. (NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT ON OR AFTER AUGUST 26, 2005 (MDH 0826XX) AND ON OR BEFORE JULY 23, 2007 (MDH 0723XX). I FIND IT ODD THAT THIS "BULLETIN" WAS ISSUED IN THE SALT BELT REGION (WHERE WE LIVE) AND READING FORUMS AND COMPLAINTS, IT STARTING TO HAPPEN TO 2008 AND 2009 JEEP COMPASS.'
I JUST RECENTLY FAILED INSPECTION ON MY 2009 JEEP COMPASS 4 X 4 FOR RUSTED CROSS MEMBERS. THE CROSS MEMBER IN THE FRONT IS RUSTED TO THE POINT IT HAS THROUGH HOLES IN IT. THE REAR CROSS MEMBER IS NOT AS SEVERE BUT IS ALSO HEAVILY RUSTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME THAT HOLDS THE MOTOR WAS CORRODED AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL HAS SEVERE PROBLEM, ALMOST STALLING OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IAM SCARED OF A 'STALL-OUT" WHILE IN TRAFFIC THAT COULD RESULT IN SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. FIRST SEVERE OCCURRANCE WAS ON MAY 15TH,2015. AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY EVERSINCE.
CAR LOST POWER GOING ABOUT 50MPH ON 9/15/2014. I HAD CAR TOWED TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, BOBB AUTO GROUP (11009 WEST 133RD AVENUE, CEDAR LAKE, IN 46303). MECHANICS REPLACED THE CLUTCH KIT (PART# 5062150AE), CYLINDER (5273431AB), AND COVER (PART# 4884904AB). I PICKED UP THE CAR ON 9/19/2014, PAYING $1,284.47 FOR REPAIRS AND PARTS WERE WARRANTED FOR 12,000 MILES OR 2-YEARS. ON 11/17/2014 CAR LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING 40MPH. CALLED BOBB AUTO GROUP TO INFORM THEM AND GET HELP. SINCE I WAS IN CHICAGO THIS TIME THEY ADVISED TO TAKE TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER/JEEP/DODGE DEALER SO THAT WARRANTY CAN BE HONORED AS IT SOUNDED TO THEM THAT THE PART THEY JUST INSTALLED FAILED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO SOUTH CHICAGO DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (7340 SOUTH WESTERN AVENUE, CHICAGO, IL 60636) FOR SERVICE WORK. ON 11/18/2014 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE CLUTCH WAS THE ISSUE, HOWEVER, IN THEIR OPINION THE PART FAILED DUE TO "DRIVER ABUSE" AND NOT A PART DEFECT OR INSTALLATION ERROR AND NO WARRANTY WILL BE HONORED. THE ORIGINAL MECHANIC AT BOBB AUTO GROUP DID NOT AGREE WITH THE ASSESSMENT AND EVEN STATED THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THE DAMAGE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. HE SAID THAT WE SHOULD CALL CHRYSLER LLC AND HAVE THEM REVIEW THE CASE AND FORCE THE DEALER TO DO REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. THE AREA MANAGER FOR CHICAGO HAD PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE SENT TO THEM AND THEY NOT ONLY AGREED THAT THE WARRANTY WILL NOT BE HONORED BUT ALSO FLAGGED MY VIN NATIONWIDE TO PREVENT OTHER DEALERS FROM WARRANTY WORK. THROUGH MY OWN RESEARCH, AND SPEAKING TO OTHER MECHANICS THAT WORK FOR OTHER CHRYSLER DEALERS AND OTHERWISE, I HAVE COME TO THE UNDERSTANDING THAT "DRIVER ABUSE" WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME AND ALSO LESS THAN 2K MILES. I FEEL THAT A PART OR VEHICLE DEFECT IS BEING COVERED UP AND/OR REPAIR FRAUD IS OCCURRING AT SOUTH CHICAGO DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM. *TR

1) WATER LEAKS THROUGH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS (NEAR SUNROOF PANEL). WATERSPOTS ALSO ON ROOF. I AM WORRIED THAT I'LL GET AN ELECTROCUTION AT SOME POINT IF I USE MY INTERIOR LIGHTS AFTER IT HAS RAINED/SNOWED. ALL OPTIONS ARE FACTORY. 2) CLUTCH/TRANSMISSION/ENGINE NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 49,000. THIS IS A MANUAL, AND SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED THIS SOON. WHEN YOU REMOVE THE OIL CAP, THERE IS COMPRESSION IN THE TANK. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ASAP. UNFORTUNATELY, THE ONLY WAY TO DO THIS IS GET A NEW ENGINE (OR REBUILD EXISTING.) THIS IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND UNWARRANTED FOR A VEHICLE SO "NEW". MY 2009 JEEP COMPASS OVERHEATS ON LONG TRIPS. IT DOES A HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE AND THEN IT SLOWS DOWN TO 40 MPH AND WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO GO FASTER. THIS IS VERY BAD WHEN YOU ARE ON INTERSTATE 5 WITH NO WAY TO PULL OVER AND GRANDCHILDREN IN THE CAR. VERY DANGEROUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY AND THEY FOUND "NOTHING WRONG". THEY COULD NOT "DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM WHICH I TOLD THEM OF COURSE THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE IT THEY AREN'T TRAVELING ON A LONG TRIP. I GOOGLED IT AND I SEE THAT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP COMPASS THAT THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND CAN NOT BE FIXED. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SINCE 2010 AND HAD CONCERNS THAT I HAD SENT TO THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND NOTHING WAS DONE. VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A NOISE IN THE FRONT AT LOW SPEED, WHEN BACKING AT LOW SPEED AND SLIGHT FRONT VIBRATION AT NORMAL DRIVING SPEED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AT MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS AND DRIVEN AT NORMALLY EXPECTED CONDITIONS, NEVER INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT OR MISHAP CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH FAILED PARTS SUCH AS BEING DRIVEN INTO A DITCH, ETC. TIRES WERE REPLACED AT AROUND 45,000 MILES. INSPECTION AT DEALER SHOWED BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED INSPECTION AND THE TIRES WERE "ABNORMALLY WORN" AT LESS THAN 20,000 MILES OF USAGE. MECHANIC AND SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT VEHICLE WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE SINCE THERE WAS A RISK OF THE FRONT WHEELS SHEARING OR BREAKING OFF DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE BALL JOINTS.I HAD THE REPAIR COMPLETED IMMEDIATELY AT A COST OF $833.01. WHEN RESEARCHING AUTO PARTS ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AS OEM AT AROUND THE COST THE DEALER CHARGED ME OR A "PROBLEM FIXER" PART WAS AVAILABLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL COST. THIS PROBLEM FIXER PART WAS A GREASABLE BALL JOINT AND THE OEM AS WELL AS THE FACTORY ORIGINAL PARTS ARE NOT GREASABLE. IT SEEMS THAT THE PART MANUFACTURERS IF NOT THE AUTOMAKER IS WELL AWARE THAT A NON-GREASABLE BALL JOINT IS A BUILT IN DEFECT AS WELL AS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE A HANDLING OR DRIVING ISSUE, ONLY AN ANNOYING AND OCCASIONAL NOISE AND SLIGHT VIBRATION AND AT LESS THAN 55,000 GENTLY DRIVEN AND CAREFUL MILES IT WAS NEVER THOUGHT THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN ANY POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD WITH THIS VEHICLE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT SUCH A VITAL PART SHOULD FAIL SO RELATIVELY EARLY WITHOUT ABUSE OR INCIDENT TO CAUSE IT TO FAIL. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,852 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
