TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE RADIATOR FAN BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THERE WAS AN EXISTING RECALL ON THE RADIATOR FAN; HOWEVER, THE VIN IS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INCLUDING THE POSSIBILITY THAT SOMEONE COULD SUSTAIN AN INJURY FROM PARTS OF THE FAN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000. WHEN THE FAN BROKE, PIECES FLEW INTO THE RADIATOR AND DAMAGED IT BEYOND REPAIR. THE RADIATOR AND FAN HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 10/27/09*JB
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, WITH A 4.0 LITER INLINE 6 CYLINDER, AND DOING A BIT OR RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT IS COMMON ON THIS CAR TO HAVE A OVERHEATING PROBLEM, DUE TO CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD WHICH IS A MAJOR JOB...TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WILL COST ABOUT $ 3000.00. *TR
MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 90,000 MILES HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH DEFROSTING AND HEATING FOR THE PAST YEAR. WHEN IT IS COLD OR RAINY THE WINDSHIELD WILL NOT CLEAR NOT MATTER WHAT SETTINGS I USE. I GET SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATING ON MY FOGGY WINDSHIELD AND I AM FORCED TO PULL OVER IN DANGERS CONDITIONS AND SCRAP MY WINDOWS. RECENTLY MY HEAT HAS STOPPED WORKING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND I LOOKED FOR INFORMATION ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS FORUMS WITH THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED FOR YEARS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DAIMLER CHRYSLER ONLY TO BE TOLD IT WAS A COMFORT ISSUE NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS S SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET HURT OR WORSE. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE WILLING TO CHARGE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO 'FIX' PROBLEMS BUT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE THEY NEVER FIX THE PROBLEM AND CUSTOMERS ARE TAKING UNNECESSARY RISKS TO DRIVE THEIR SUV'S (SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLES, IRONICALLY) WITHOUT HEAT, DEFROST AND/OR COOLING. PLEASE TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY AND LOOK AND SEE HOW MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS YOU HAVE GOTTEN ON THE SAME ISSUES WITH THESE CARS. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON IN MY 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE WHILE I AM IN IDLE AND IN MOTION. *TR
1. SAT ON DRIVERS SEAT OF 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 2. DRIVERS SEAT FRAME BROKE. UPON INSPECTION 4 WELD POINTS HAD BROKEN AND METAL WAS FATIGUED. AVERAGE PERSON WEIGHT IS ~200 LBS (NOT EXCESSIVE). 3. RE-WELDED FRAME AFTER REPLACEMENT COULDN'T BE FOUND AT SALVAGE YARDS DUE APPARENTLY TO THE SAME FAILURE. WE'RE LUCKY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. WHEN SHE RESTARTED IT, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED A TOTAL OF TEN TIMES. BOTH THE DEALER AND A PRIVATE MECHANIC COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE A CRASH COULD OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HAS BROKEN FREE FROM IT'S TRACKS 3 TIMES. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST REPAIR I HAVE HAD TO MAKE. THE BACK FRAME OF THE DRIVER SEAT SNAPPED WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES AND ALMOST BROKE MY BACK. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE, AS MANY JEEP OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. IS IT GOING TO TAKE A DEATH TO FIX A FEW HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF COLLECTIVE DEFECTS? THE GOVERNMENT BAILED THEM OUT, WHY NOT PUT SOME OF THAT MONEY TO GOOD USE INSTEAD OF CHRYSLER EXECS POCKETS!!! *TR
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 6 POINT ADJUSTABLE POWER DRIVER'S SEAT. THE BRACKETS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE POWER SEAT ADJUSTER (THE BRACKETS THAT HOLD THE TOP OF THE ADJUSTER TO THE BOTTOM) BROKE ON JULY 3, 2009 UNDER NORMAL BREAKING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. BASICALLY THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT NOW JUST FLOATS AROUND. IF THE CORRESPONDING BRACKETS ON THE RIGHT SIDE GO, THE SEAT WILL BE FREE OF THE VEHICLE AND I'LL BE DRIVING FROM THE BACK. I WAS WILLING TO WRITE THIS OFF AS A ONE OFF PROBLEM, BUT THAT'S JUST NOT THE CASE. THIS IS SUCH A COMMON ISSUE THAT I'M UNABLE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT FROM A SALVAGE YARD. THE DEALER WANTS $800 TO REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY (THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED AS IT'S NOT AVAILABLE IN ITS INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS) WHICH JUST IS NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS POINT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IF THE SEAT WERE TO COMPLETELY BREAK AWAY AT 75 MPH (INTERSTATE SPEED WHERE I AM), IMAGINE THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT THAT WOULD OCCUR. I'VE GOTTEN A HOLD OF A USED 10 POINT ADJUSTABLE DRIVER'S SEAT FROM A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND AM HOPING I CAN MAKE IT WORK, BUT AT THIS POINT, THE ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED. IF THE ONE FROM THE 2001 JEEP CAN'T BE MADE TO WORK, I MAY BE FORCED TO CONVERT IT TO A MANUAL SEAT AS THE BRACKETS FOR A MANUAL SEAT ARE AFFORDABLE NEW. *TR
FRONT SEAT BROKE OFF - NO ACCIDENT, JUST EVERYDAY USE. *TR
THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO START THE CAR IS SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE RESOLUTION TO IT. IT'S A TREMENDOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING ON SEVERAL HIGHWAYS. THE CAR ATTEMPTS TO TURN OVER WHILE TRYING TO START IT HOWEVER NONE OF THE GAUGES ARE RESPONDING TO THE KEY IN THE IGNITION DURING TURN OVER. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS FORUMS WITH MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO EVERYTHING FROM SENSOR'S TO PCM ( MAIN COMPUTER ) TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IN MY CASE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM ISN'T STORING ANY CODES WITH A PROBLEM. INITIALLY I CHANGED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR BECAUSE OF THE CODE BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE BECAUSE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS SHUT DOWN THERE IS NO POWER STEERING MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GLIDE OVER TO THE SHOULDER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEATBELTS DON'T RETRACT. HE ALSO EXPERIENCED FAILURES WITH THE FOG LIGHT AND THE COOLING FAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WITH THE COOLING FAN FAILURE AND THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE RADIATOR; BUT, THE FAILURE WASN'T CORRECTED. REPORT 19961050 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED IN RECALL 06V199000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: FAN AND THEY WOULD REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WASN'T REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
I HAVE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHTS. I HAVE REPLACED THE HOUSING, SOCKETS AND BULBS. THE BULBS OVERHEAT AND MELT THE PLASTIC WHICH CAUSES THE LIGHTS TO MALFUNCTION. THE TAIL LIGHTS WILL WORK SOMETIMES BUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS MAY NOT WORK WHEN THE TAIL LIGHTS ARE LIT. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN THE TAIL LIGHTS DON'T WORK AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE SAME BULB. I HAVE SEEN OTHER JEEPS ON THE ROAD WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET. I'VE CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY CLAIM TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE FRONT SEAT IN MY 2000 MODEL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAVE READ FROM A LARGE NUMBER OF OWNERS THAT THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO THEM. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE TAIL LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT AND HAVING TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM EACH TIME, I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
WE OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. IT JUST STARTED BLOWING COLD AIR ONLY OUT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE VENTS AND HOT AIR OUT OF THE PASSENGERS SIDE VENTS. WE UNDERSTAND IT IS A BLEND DOOR MALFUNCTION WHICH IS WIDESPREAD AMONG 1998-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS. WE CALLED OUR LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND THEY ESTIMATED IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $800 AND $2000 TO FIX AS THEY WOULD HAVE TO PULL THE ENTIRE DASH OUT OF THE CAR. THIS IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR AN OWNER TO HAVE TO PAY ALL OF THIS MONEY TO REPAIR A MANUFACTURING DEFICIT IN THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. ABOUT EVERY JEEP OWNER WE KNOW HAS FACED THIS PROBLEM. WE FEEL YOU SHOULD DEMAND THAT JEEP RECALLS ALL OF THE JEEPS AND FIX THEM AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TR

MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS A BROKEN DRIVER'S SEAT. I HAE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND HAVE NOTICED ITS A BIG PROBLEM WITH ALOT OF THESE CARS. VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION WITH A BROKEN SEAT CAUSE IT MOVES OFF THE TRACKING DEIVICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY FAIL AND WOULD MOVE INDEPENDENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE BRACKETS FOR THE SEAT WERE REPLACED FOUR TIMES BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE CONTINUOUSLY RECURRED DUE TO THE WEAKNESS OF THE METAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
REAR BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO FAIL WITHIN 12-20 MONTHS TIME EVEN AFTER THE ENTIRE TAIL LIGHT IS REPLACED. THIS HAS OCCURRED FOR BOTH REAR TAIL LIGHTS IN MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. WE'RE HAVING TO REPLACE BOTH OF THEM EVERY 12-20 MONTHS NOW. THE TAIL LIGHT CIRCUIT AREA IS KNOWN TO BE A JEEP DEFECTIVE, AS I NOW DISCOVERED. *TR
THE FRAME ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE THROUGH IN 2 PLACES UNDER NORMAL USE, MAKING IT A SAFETY HAZARD. CURRENTLY DEBATING REPAIR ROUTE. *TR
I HAVE HAD A SLOW COOLANT LEAK FOR THE LAST YEAR AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY. ALSO THE OIL GAUGE IS READING 0 AT IDLE, BUT GOES BACK TO NORMAL WHEN DRIVING. I ALSO HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT CYLINDER MISFIRES IN THE LAST YEAR. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS AND NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHERE THE COOLANT IS GOING AND IF THESE ARE ALL RELATED. I HAVE REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, OIL PRESSURE SENSOR SWITCH, SPARK PLUGS, RAIL PACK, SPARK PLUG BOOTS, AND THERMOSTAT. VEHICLE HAS 120K MILES. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. WINDOWS BEGIN FALLING DOWN SIMULTANEOUSLY, THEN THE VEHICLE BEGINS SHUTTING OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THEN... YOUR GAUGES ON YOUR DASH (SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, BATTERY GAUGE, ETC) STOP WORKING. MAKING YOU UNABLE TO TELL YOUR SPEED. THEN YOUR VEHICLE WILL TURN OVER BUT NOT STAY CRUNK. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO ALL OF THEM. ALL JEEPS BETWEEN THE YEAR MODELS OF 2000 THROUGH 2002. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND RECENTLY MY BAND IN MY TRANSMISSION BROKE, SO I HAVE NO 2ND GEAR. I BROUGHT IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME IT HAPPENS VERY OFTEN ON THE MAKE AND YEAR OF MY VEHICLE. IT WOULD BE AN $1800.00 TO $3000.00 FIX. AS OF RIGHT NOW MY CAR WONT SHIFT UNTIL IT REACHES 5000 RPM'S, SINCE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX. THE BACK TAIL LIGHTS DON'T WORK ON MY 2000 LAREDO JEEP. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CAME LOOSE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO BE PUSHED INTO THE BACKSEAT WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING OPERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE RESPONSIBILITY FOR POOR CONSTRUCTION, DESPITE THE COMMONALITY OF THIS PROBLEM ON SIMILAR JEEP MODELS. *TR
DOOR LOCK FAILS AND SCREECHES. DRIVERS SIDE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. IT CAN ONLY BE OPENED BY MANUALLY RELEASING THE LOCK FROM THE INSIDE. IF WE WERE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT THE PASSENGER IN THAT SEAT COULD NOT BE RESCUED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM - I HAVE RESEARCH THIS ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. I BELIEVE JEEP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THESE DEFECTIVE LOCKS. *TR
FRAME TO DRIVER'S SEAT IS BROKEN. THE SEAT IS NOW APPARENTLY OUT OF THE TRACK AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED WITH THE TEMPORARY FIX IN PLACE. SEAT IS NOW TILTED AT AN ANGLE, AND MOVES WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, MAKING IT AN UNSAFE POSITION FOR THE DRIVER TO BE IN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK AND BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS. THE DOOR STOPPED THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING TOO FAR. BOTH THE FRONT FENDER AND DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WERE DAMAGED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
DRIVER SEAT FRAME BROKEN. REGULAR DRIVING JUST SNAPPED TEMPORARY FIX WITH A C CLAMP. NOT SAFE, WHAT GOOD IS HAVING A SEAT BELT ON IF YOUR SEAT IS NOT SECURE? *TR
THE HVAC SYSTEM ON OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS BROKEN AND IS UNABLE TO DIRECT AIR AT THE PROPER TEMPERATURE TO THE PROPER PLACES. THE DEFECT APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED DAMPERS IN THE DUCTWORK THAT HAVE FAILED. THIS PREVENTS OUR DEFROSTER FROM WORKING AS EFFECTIVELY AS IT SHOULD AND IS ALSO AN IRRITANT TO THE DRIVER WHEN IT'S 110 DEGREES OUTSIDE IN THE TEXAS HEAT. GOOGLING THE PROBLEM IDENTIFIES IT AS A COMMON BREAKAGE AND IS RELATED TO THE USE OF CHEAP PLASTIC MATERIALS IN THE DAMPER MECHANISM. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED AS PART OF A MANUFACTURERS RECALL CAMPAIGN. *TR
THE DRIVERS SEAT IN MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BECAME WOBBLY AND EVENTUALLY BROKE FROM THE FRAME. WHEN IT BROKE, I WAS DRIVING AND ENDED UP FLYING FORWARD AND TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS OVER 1000.00 TO REPLACE THE SEAT. I CURRENTLY HAVE IT SECURED WITH ZIP TIES, BUT THESE WILL PROBABLY NOT HOLD THE SEAT IN PLACE IF I AM IN A CAR ACCIDENT. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
LEFT TURN SIGNAL ONLY WORKS ON OCCASION AND THEN WILL GO OUT TOTALLY. THE BULBS ARE OK. IN CHECKING JEEP OWNER WEBSITES THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY LARGE PROBLEM. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IF THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL FAILS THE DRIVER BEHIND YOU DOES NOT KNOW YOUR INTENTIONS AND MAY RUN IN TO YOU. CURRENTLY, I HAVE TO PASS UP MY TURN WHEN IT FAILS AND THEN FIND A SAFE PLACE TO TURNAROUND AND GO BACK TO MY ORIGINAL TURN POINT. WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS I HAVE SEEN ON THE VARIOUS WEBSITES I BELIEVE THIS IS A STRONG SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND A PERMANENT REPAIR MADE. *TR

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ROTORS FAILED. THE ROTORS NEED TO BE RESURFACED AND THE BRAKE LINE SHOULD BE FLUSHED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $800. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE AND THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAT NOT WORKING 3 TIMES NOW AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS (SPENT OVER $1,000.00 IN THIS ALONE) THE WIRES CONNECTING TO THE BLOW BOX GET TO HOT AND MELT THE PLUG & BLOW BOX. WHEN IT FIRST STARTS YOU CAN WIGGLE THE WIRES AND IT WILL WORK FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. ULTIMATELY YOU MUST REPLACE THE PLUG & BLOW BOX. LAST WEEK I WAS PULLED OVER GETTING OFF THE EXPRESS WAY AND A GUY STOPPED ME AND TOLD ME I HAD NO TAIL LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. AGAIN THIS WAS ANOTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
