THE LOCK ON THE BACK DOOR OF MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO WILL NOT UNLOCK AND WHEN I TRY TO UNLOCK IT, IT MAKES A "QUACK" NOISE. *TR
I HAVE OWNED A 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS NOW AND I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE JEEP STALLING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN ALL THE STEPS TO GETTING THE PROBLEM REPAIRED, I HAVE HAD A TECH PUT IT ON A TESTER, I REPLACED THE PARTS THAT THE TECH TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE BUT STILL THE JEEP STALLS AND NOW IT IS GETTING WORSE. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN THAT RIDE IN MY JEEP EVERYDAY TO AND MOST OF THE TIME FROM SCHOOL. I AM TERRIFIED THAT IT IS GOING TO STALL IN TRAFFIC AND MY CHILDREN ARE GOING TO BE INJURED OR WORSE. IF I OR A TECHNICIAN CANNOT FIGURE THE PROBLEM OUT WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO. IN THIS ECONOMY PEOPLE JUST CANT GO OUT AND GET A NEW CAR. AND I CANT CONTINUE BUYING PARTS THAT I DON'T NEED. WHILE DRIVING DOWN I-94 IN DETROIT AREA, THE DRIVER SEAT ON MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BROKE OFF FROM THE SEAT TRACK IN 3 PLACES (BOTH REAR BRACKETS AND THE FRONT LEFT BRACKET. THIS INCIDENT CAUSED A SLIGHT SURPRISE AND JOLT DURING DRIVING AT 70 MPH. *TR
MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS OPERATING PERFECTLY, AND APPARENTLY THE "BLEND DOOR" OR SOMETHING IN THE HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM IS MESSED UP. IT STARTS BLOWING COLD AIR FOR NO REASON SOME TIMES, EVEN TO THE POINT OF FOGGING THE WINDSHIELD IN COLD WEATHER. *TR
I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE HEATING WORKS FINE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, BUT ONLY COLD AIR BLOWS FROM THE VENTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. MY INTERNET REVIEW SUGGESTS THAT IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE I LOSE HEAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES ... AND CHRYSLER KNOWS IT. THE FIX IS VERY EXPENSIVE ... BLEND AIR DOOR ACTUATOR, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THIS WILL BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN I AM UNABLE TO DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL AND FIX! *TR
NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE OF 2000 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE. *TR
HEATER AND DEFROSTER FAILED TO WORK AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS WINDSHIELD WOULD NOT DEFROST. PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE A BLEND DOOR FAILURE WITH FAILURE CODES 38,51,54 AND 56. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND FOLLOWED BY A POLICE OFFICER. HE PULLED ME OVER TO GIVE ME A CITATION FOR AN EQUIPMENT VIOLATION. IT APPEARS WHENEVER I HIT MY BRAKES MY DRIVERSIDE TAILLIGHT WENT OUT INSTEAD OF ILLUMINATING FURTHER. I HAD ONCE BEEN TOLD OF THIS BEFORE BUT EVERYTIME I CHECKED THEY WORKED (ALWAYS WITH MY LIGHTS OFF). AND I HAVE REPLACED THE BULB A FEW TIMES. I HAVE NOW DONE SOME TESTING AND IT APPEARS THE HOUSING IS FAULTY. MY MOM HAS AN 04 LIBERTY WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS AS WELL AS MY SISTER IN LAWS 1999 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THIS OBVIOUSLY IS A FAULTY DESIGN AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY BOTH MY TICKET AND THE COST TO FIX THE ISSUE, WHEN IT'S AN ISSUE OF FAULTY MANUFACTURED EQUIPMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON MORE THAN TEN OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT HEATER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WOULD BECOME SO HOT THAT THE OCCUPANT IN THE SEAT WOULD BE BURNED. WHEN HE TURNED OFF THE SEAT HEATER, IT REMAINED ACTIVATED. HE HAD TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE HEATER. HE NEVER SMELLED ANYTHING BURNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,230 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000.
I HAVE OWNED MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO FOR ALMOST 9 NINE YEARS. ALMOST A YEAR AGO, THE DRIVERS-SIDE SEAT BEGAN TO WOBBLE. AT FIRST, IT WAS MORE OF AN INCONVENIENCE. HOWEVER, SOON IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE SEAT WAS REALLY COMING OFF OF THE BASE. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I TOOK IT TO SOUTHPOINT CHRYSLER JEEP IN AUSTIN, TEXAS IN ORDER FOR THE SEAT TO BE FIXED. BEFORE TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I REMOVED THE SEAT FROM THE BASE AND NOTICED THAT WHERE THE SEAT WAS AFFIXED TO THE BASE, THE METAL HAD SHEARED OFF, RENDERING THE BOLTS USELESS. I LOOKED UP THIS UP ON WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG, AND NOTICED THAT MANY OTHERS HAD THIS ISSUE AS WELL. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THAT JEEP CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE COMPENSATED ME FOR THIS DEFECT. THE DEALER CHARGED ME $ 1,000 (ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS) TO REPLACE THE SEAT BASE AND THE BASE THAT AFFIXES TO THE FLOOR. I BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD AT LEAST PAY FOR THE COST OF PARTS, SINCE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN AN ACCIDENT. I DID NOT KNOW THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE OF THE SEAT UNTIL I REMOVED IT. BY THE TIME I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, THERE WAS ONE BOLT THAT WAS PROPERLY HOLDING IT IN PLACE, BUT THE OTHERS WERE FAIRLY USELESS. I ALSO TOOK PICTURES OF THE SEAT BASE AND FLOOR BASE. I AM THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER HANDLING A FIRE LOSS, WRITING ON BEHALF OF THE VEHICLE OWNER MYRA PERIERA. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED WHEN A FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT RESULTING IN A FIRE THAT TOTALED THE VEHICLE. WE SETTLED THE CLAIM. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO, MY AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AND ALARMING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I LOOKED IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL FOR INFORMATION. IT SAID I NEEDED TO CONTACT MY DEALER. I DID. THE DEALER, AFTER A 3 HOUR INSPECTION, GAVE ME A DIAGNOSIS. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED HOW MUCH THIS WOULD COST. THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF APPROXIMATELY $1200 PARTS AND LABOR. IN THESE ECONOMIC TIMES, THERE IS NO WAY I CAN AFFORD THAT. I ASKED THE MECHANIC WHAT WAS THE WORSE CASE SCENARIO IF I DID NOTHING. HE SAID, "WELL, WORSE CASE, YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE BAG DEPLOYS." I ASKED IF THEY COULD UNPLUG THE SYSTEM...THEY TOLD ME NO. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THIS FEATURE REPAIRED. BUT, I ALSO AM HORRIFIED AT THE POSSIBILITY OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THE BAG DOES DEPLOY WHILE I AM DRIVING. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE, I WOULD HOPE THAT THE JEEP WOULD STAND BEHIND IT. MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE'S ELECTRIC FAN BROKE AND CUT INTO THE RADIATOR. I DID A SEARCH FOR RECALLS AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS FAN, BUT HERE IS THE REAL PROBLEM: THE COOLANT FAN RELAY SWITCH MODULE FAILS AND THE FAN DOESN'T PROPERLY COOL THE ENGINE, THEN THE POORLY DESIGNED HEAD CRACKS BETWEEN THE #3 AND #4 HEAD AND ALL THE COOLANT SEEPS INTO THE CYLINDER AREA WHERE THE COOLANT IS BURNED. THEN WITHOUT PROPER COOLING, IT DESTROYS THE ENGINE. (RECALL TO REPLACE BAD HEADS). *TR
VENTILATION SYSTEM, I HAVE A NOISE IN THE DASHBOARD AND MY VENTS ARE BLOWING COLD AIR, AND IT IS A DUAL HEATING SYSTEM. THIS IS GOING TO COST ME 800.00 TO FIX. I HEAR THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE AND HAS ANYTHING BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BRACKET THAT CONNECTS THE SEAT TO THE VEHICLE'S STRUCTURE FAILED DUE TO METAL FATIGUE. THE CONTACT DID NOT OBSERVE ANY FATIGUE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE CAUSED A NEAR CRASH AND HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BRACKETS FAILED AND CAUSED THE SEAT TO LEAN TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SEAT. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE AT THE TIME, BUT THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 104,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. UPDATED 11/14/08. *LJ UPDATED 11/18/08. *JB
I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 151,400 MILES. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WERE (1) RAPID FOGGING OF FRONT WINDSHIELD,(2) FOGGING OF FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS,(3) FAILURE OF PASSENGER HEAT WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DRIVER HEAT FUNCTION, AND (4) ONLY COLD AIR RELEASE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF JEEP. CONSEQUENTLY,(1) THE WINDSHIELD AND FRONT WINDOWS DO NOT DEFOG, AND (2) NO HEAT WHATSOEVER COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AND DASHBOARD VENTILATION SYSTEM. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR. ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITEDS WITH DUEL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS. *TR

THE DRIVERS SEAT MOUNTS BROKE AND THE SEAT BRACKET IS CRACKED. ALSO THE BACK RECLINING WILL NOT ADJUST. I HAVE TO PUSH IT FORWARD MANUALLY WHILE PUSHING ELECTRONIC BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE TO KEEP WOOD BEHIND SEAT TO SUPPORT IT, BUT IT STILL ROCKS SIDE TO SIDE. EVERY TIME I DRIVE I RISK FALLING BACK IT'S SCARY BUT TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX AND EVEN WITH THE$1500 PRICE TAG THERE'S WAITING LISTS FOR PARTS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE, I HAVE READ OVER 1000 COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE JUST TODAY. *TR
I STARTED HEARING CREAKING NOISES INSIDE THE DASH SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. THIS WOULD NORMALLY OCCUR WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, OR TURNED THE HEAT OR A/C OFF. A WEEK AGO THE PASSENGER SIDE VENTS STARTING BLOWING COLD AIR ONLY, REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE SETTINGS. I BOUGHT A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAD A QUACKING NOISE WHEN LOCKING AND UNLOCKING IN THE REAR HATCH. IT FINALLY JUST QUIT QUACKING BUT ALONG WITH THE SILENCE THE MECHANISM NO LONGER WORKS. NOW YOU CAN'T GET IN THE BACK HATCH. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE HOW TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT IT'S A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THIS MODEL. I FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL AS THERE IS NO WAY TO GET IN THE VEHICLE SHOULD THE FRONT OR SIDE DOORS BECOME DISABLED, SAY IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THIS HATCH SO YOU HAVE TO RELY ON THIS EXPENSIVE MECHANISM TO DO THE JOB. FROM MY RESEARCH IT LOOKS LIKE THIS HAS TO BE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE VENTS REGARDLESS OF THE TEMPERATURE SETTING. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR SEVERAL WEEKS NOW. IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT IT WILL EVER BE CORRECTED. *TR
I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO AND PURCHASED IT USED 4 YEARS AGO. A YEAR AGO MY DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BEGAN SQUEAKING AND SLOWLY ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. ONE DAY AS I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE SEAT SIMPLY SNAPPED, SENDING ME RECLINING INTO THE BACKSEAT AREA. LUCKILY I WAS UNHARMED AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER REVIEWING THE STRUCTURE UNDER THE SEAT, I DISCOVERED THAT THE METAL FRAME HAD SIMPLY CRACKED. AT $1000 TO REPAIR AS QUOTED BY A DEALER, I SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO SO AND I HAVE CONSTRUCTED A HOMEMADE DEVICE OF 2X4'S THAT HAS SUFFICED FOR THE TIME BEING. HOWEVER, THE SEAT CONTINUES TO ROCK SIDE TO SIDE AND WHEN I GO AROUND CORNERS I HAVE TO LEAN HEAVILY AGAINST THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. SIMPLY PUT, THE SEAT IS A DANGER TO THE DRIVER OF JEEPS AND EVERY CAR ON THE ROADS AROUND THEM. I LOVE MY JEEP BUT IF I HAD BEEN INJURED OR KILLED, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY CULPABLE DUE TO THEIR FAILED PRODUCT. *TR
VISIBILITY: DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM:WINDSHIELD:BLOWER I HAVE A 2000 JEEP THAT THE DEFOGGER DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, AND FROM WHAT I HAVE LEARNED, CHRYSLER HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME AND HAS FAILED TO ACT ON THE PROBLEM AS FAR AS A RECALL! THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH MOST JEEPS. THIS FAILURE OCCURS EVERYDAY DUE TO THE FACT THE BLEND DOORS ARE BROKEN AS PART OF FAULTY MANUFACTURING. I CAN'T EVEN DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T MIND FIXING THE PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I LEARN THAT CHRYSLER KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM LONG AGO, I THINK THEY NEED TO BEAR SOME OF THE BURDEN. AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM ACTS ERRATICALLY. REGARDLESS OF WHAT SETTINGS ARE USED, HOT AIR WILL BLOW OUT ONE SIDE WHILE COLD BLOWS OUT THE OTHER. SOMETIMES WHICH SIDE IS COLD OR HOT WILL SWITCH. I AM FILING THIS WITH THE NHTSA BECAUSE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. BECAUSE MY AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL DOESN'T WORK CORRECTLY, I HAVE NO WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER. WE HAVE BEEN RECEIVING A LOT OF RAIN LATELY AND THE TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN DROPPING. MY WINDSHIELD KEEPS GETTING FOGGY AND I CAN'T CLEAR IT. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND WIPE IT OFF WITH A TOWEL JUST TO HAVE IT FOG UP AGAIN A FEW MINUTES LATER WHILE I'M TRYING TO DRIVE. IN THE WINTER, THE WINDSHIELD WILL FREEZE OVER AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP CLEAR VISIBILITY. I CAN DEAL WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE, BUT NO DEFROSTER IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO A DEALERSHIP AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE COST OF REPAIR WILL BE AT LEAST $1200. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, IT APPEARS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. MY FATHERS 99' JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. JEEP HAS IDENTIFIED A DESIGN FLAW AND HAS REPLACEMENT PARTS, BUT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN WARRANTY. THIS IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW AND A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. JEEP DIDN'T HAVE A FIX FOR THIS UNTIL THE JEEP WAS WELL OUT OF WARRANTY. I PUT TODAY'S DATE AS THE INCIDENT DATE, BUT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST YEAR. IT IS CONSIDERABLY WORSE NOW AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE THIS WINTER. *TR
THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR HAS MELTED! (FIRE HAZARD) NOW WE ONLY HAVE COLD AIR BLOWING FROM OUR VENTS. NO HEAT. SOMEONE SAID IT IS THE BLEND DOORS. APPARENTLY LOTS OF PPL HAVE THIS PROBLEM! (IT IS SOON TO BE WINTER TIME) ALSO, CREAKING/MOTOR SOUNDS COME FROM THE DASH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF?!?! *TR

MORE IMPORTANTLY THOUGH IS THE FACT THAT THE SEAT MOVES AND IS NOT SAFE WHEN DRIVING, EVEN IF JUST DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, BECAUSE IT IS NOT SECURE AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO GIVE OUT AND SHIFT, CAUSING YOU TO STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ROAD SO THAT YOU CAN TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH YOU SEAT. I REALLY THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE REPAIRED AS I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THE FAILURE IS ONLY NOTICEABLE WHEN THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE BRAKES ARE ACTIVATED.
