I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW STARTING FALLING DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR. NO ONE WAS OPERATING THE WINDOW CONTROLS. THE MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $350. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE DRIVERS WINDOW WOULDN'T STAY UP. THE ARMATURE HAD TO BE REPLACE FOR $400. *TR
VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DIVICES AND CONTROLS 2001 JEEP GRANDE CHEROKEE. BETWEEN SPRING 2006 PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DROPPED DURING THE NIGHT LEAVING MY CAR OPEN AND EXPOSED TO WEATHER. WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP AND SINCE WE WERE OUT OF TOWN WE HAD TO DUCT TAPE ALL AROUND TO DRIVE 300 MILES HOME. $450 TO REPAIR. 4 MONTHS LATER WENT FOR A SWIM AND WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HAD DROPPED AND WOULD NOT GO UP. CAR HAS ~70,000 MILES AND THOUGHT THIS TO BE QUITE UNUSUAL SO DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE WITH THIS MODEL. ONE GENTLEMAN HAD RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT FROM CHRYSLER SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A TRY. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH CHRYSLER THEY AGREED TO REIMBURSE SO I MAILED IN BOTH RECEIPTS EQUALLY ~$800 MINUS A $50 DEDUCTIBLE. THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD AGREED TO ONLY PAY FOR THE MOST RECENT. I GUESS I SHOULD BE THANKFUL THAT I GOT SOMETHING BUT I AM NOT. IF THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE WHY WOULD THEY ONLY PAY FOR THE ONE. I AM JUST WAITING FOR THE NEXT TO DROP. THERE SHOULD BE AUTOMATIC REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS REPAIR ON THIS MODEL. *NM
I OWN A 2001 GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP LAREDO 4X4. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE EIGHT WAY SEAT. THE HINGED ACTUATOR THAT THE SEAT IS MOUNTED TO HAS FRACTURED CAUSING THE SEAT TO BECOME UNSTABLE. I PERFORMED TESTS THAT REVEALED CRACKS IN THE WELDS AND IN THE COMPONENT PARTS THEMSELVES. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH JEEP AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT MODEL AND THE SEATS. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART BECAUSE THE FEEL ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
LOUD CREAKING NOISES COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD WHEN I TURN ON THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. *JB
BRAKES STARTED SMOKING AND STICKING 5.5 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME WHILE GOING ON VACATION. WENT TO BRAKE REPAIR PLACE AND THEY DETERMINED CALIPERS WERE STICKING. COULDN'T GET A RENTAL CAR, JEEP DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T GIVE US A RENTAL CAR. CALIPERS ARE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. PROCEEDED ON TO VACATION DESTINATION W/BRAKES STILL NOT FIXED. CALLED THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT THE JEEP UNTIL A WEEK AND A HALF LATER, AND WE'D BE BACK HOME BY THEN. HAD JEEP TOWED TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP FURTHER AWAY AND IT TOOK SOME CONVINCING ON OUR PART TO GET DAIMLER CHRYSLER TO PAY FOR THE TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT WAS FURTHER AWAY. THAT JEEP DEALERSHIP HAD THE CALIPERS SENT TO THEM, BUT THEY GOT LOST IN THE MAIL AND THEY COULDN'T REPAIR THE CALIPERS. THEY HAD THE JEEP THE WHOLE WEEK WE WERE ON VACATION. WHY DIDN'T THEY (A) HAVE CALIPERS IN STOCK AND (B) OVERNIGHT THE CALIPERS SO THEY COULD BE SURE THEY GOT THEM? HAD TO DRIVE BACK HOME FOR OVER NINE HOURS WITH BRAKES AND CALIPERS STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. HAD JEEP TOWED TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED 3 CALIPERS, BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE PADS. THE CALIPERS WERE COVERED UNDER OUR WARRANTY, BUT BRAKES PADS AND EVERYTHING ELSE WASN'T AND WE HAD TO PAY OVER $500 FOR THOSE TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE DAIMLER CHRYSLER SHOULD NOT HAVE CHARGED US FOR REPLACING ANYTHING BECAUSE THE CALIPERS CAUSED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS TO FAIL. I ALSO THINK SINCE THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T REPAIR THE CALIPERS THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND GIVEN US A RENTAL CAR TO GET HOME. JEEP ONLY HAD 46,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED. *NM
BOTH FRONT WINDOW MOTORS FAILED IN A 6 MONTH PERIOD. *JB
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 65-70 MI/HOUR. WHEN SHE TRIED TO CHANGE LANES, THE CAR SWERVED FOR NO REASON AND CRASHED INTO THE MIDDLE DIVIDER. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOTALED NOW. IN ADDITION, WHEN SHE CRASHED INTO THE DIVIDER, THE CAR AIR BAG DID NOT OPEN. I THINK THERE WAS A VEHICLE DEFECT (EITHER DESIGN OR MANUFACTURE) IN THE JEEP WHICH CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT. *NM
AC FAN QUIT WORKING ON LONG TRIP HOME. TOOK TO DEALER HAD TO REPLACE RESISTOR, WHICH THEY SAID THEY ALSO HAD TO REPLACE WITH A NEW STYLE WIRING HARNESS. COST 410.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR, WITH PARTS BEING MORE THAN LABOR. HAD TO DRIVE IN EXTREME HEAT WITH WINDOWS DOWN TO GET HOME, OVER 3 HOURS. *JB
DRIVER'S SEAT WHERE IT MOUNTS TO THE MOVABLE RAILS IS BROKEN. REPEATED CALLS TO VARIOUS USED PART DEALERS SHOWS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS. APPARENTLY AT AROUND 60,000 MILES OR SO THE SEAT BREAKS. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM IN THAT THE SEAT CAN COME LOOSE DURING NORMAL DRIVING, OR DURING AN ACCIDENT CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL, SERIOUS INJURY, OR DEATH. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN MAKING EITHER A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN THERE WAS A PUMPING SOUND. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 01V007000, REGARDING THE STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH STEERING ASSEMBLY CONSISTENT WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 01V007000 (STEERING BOX RECALL FOR 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE) AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE BECAME LESS RESPONSIVE TO STEERING INPUT AND RESULTED IN A NEAR ACCIDENT WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP ON JUNE 26, 2006 (THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN WHEN THE WHEEL WAS TURNED). THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER SERVICE STATION AND THE DEALER RECOMMENDED STEERING BOX REPLACEMENT DUE TO NOTICEABLE GRINDING IN STEERING ASSEMBLY. JEEP CLAIMS THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR THE RECALL. THE RECALL IS EFFECTIVE FOR VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN THE DATES OF NOVEMBER 22 AND DECEMBER 5, 2000 ONLY, MY VEHICLE WAS BUILT ON DECEMBER 6, 2000. JEEP WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT MADE WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS. I AM REQUESTING NHTSA INVESTIGATE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE VEHICLES MADE AFTER DECEMBER 5, 2000 FOR STEERING BOX FAILURE ISSUES, THE RECALL ISSUED IS NOT EXTENSIVE ENOUGH RESULTING IN POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, THE FAN BLADE SEPARATED AND CAUSED THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE FAN WAS FIRST REPLACED IN JUNE OF 2006. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06E011000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP) WAS RECEIVED IN JUNE OF 2007. CHRYSLER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FAN UNDER THE RECALL AND THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL ENGINE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WINDOW FRONT MECHANISM LEFT SIDE AND RIGHT SIDE BROKE TWICE ON 3 JEEPS THAT I OWNED ALL 2001. WINDOW DID NOT GO UP ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS HAD TO CHANGE THE MECHANISM. MILES VARIED BUT ALL 3 WHERE 2001 JEEPS GRAND CHEROKEE. LAST INCIDENT NOTED ON DATE YOU ARE ASKING. *JB
FILING A COMMON COMPLAINT RELATED TO A FLAW IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FRONT SEATS. MOST OCCUR IN THE 1999-2004 MODELS. THE METAL THAT ATTACHES THE SEAT TO THE FLOOR IS FLIMSY AND HAS BROKEN. IT MAKES THE SEAT WOBBLY AND WILL LEAD TO MY LEGS HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL AND POSSIBLY CAUSE A WRECK. THIS IS A FATAL FLAW FROM JEEP/CHRYSLER. *TR
NOTICED THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY COME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND SHUT OFF (HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON AUTO) THE RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD WORK ONCE IN AWHILE THE SAME FOR THE CRUISE CONTROLS PLUS THE HORN DOES NOT WORK AT ALL KNOW DID WORK WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN APRIL 06. I NOTICED WHEN I PLAYED WITH THE TILT STEERING SOMETHING IS WOULD WORK SOME WOULDN'T. I BELIEVE THAT THIS MIGHT AFFECT THE AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING IF IN A WRECK. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRRORS DO NOT STAY IN THE POSITION THE POWER CONTROLS HAVE SET. THE MIRRORS ADJUST UP OR DOWN ON THEIR OWN. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE MOTOR FOR THE MIRRORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 05/30/2006. *AK
DRIVERS FRONT SEAT FRAME REPEATEDLY BREAKS AND HAVE TO HAVE IT WELDED. HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED 3X AT MY OWN COST. THE SEAT IS ALSO TWISTING ON THE MOUNTS. *TR
BRAKE ROTORS WENT BAD. VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. NO PROBLEM WITH STOPPING IF PRESSING HARD ENOUGH. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC INDICATED ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER TEST DRIVING VEHICLE & FELT THE VIBRATION. I FELT THERE WAS A DESIGN DEFECT AND REQUESTED CHRYSLER REPLACE THE CALIPERS UNDER SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT WAS A DESIGN DEFECT. THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS NOT A DESIGN DEFECT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. WHILE RESEARCHING THE REPAIR, I LEARNED THERE WAS A REDEIGNED CALIPER KIT TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. WHY WOULD THEY GO TO THE EFFORT AND EXPENSE TO REDESIGN A SYSTEN THAT WAS FUNCTIONING WELL? THIS HAPPENED AT 55,000 MILES. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS SUCH
PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW STOPPED WORKING AND FELL INTO DOOR IN 2005. DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HAS NOW DONE THE SAME THING IN 2006. FIRST TIME IT COST ME OVER $300 TO REPAIR, I'M SURE THIS SECOND TIME IT WILL BE THE SAME. OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS A DEFECTIVE PART HERE, SINCE IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IT IS NOT JUST NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THIS PROBLEM IS OUT THERE ALL OVER THE INTERNET - CHRYSLER/JEEP NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPAIR THIS ISSUE. *NM
BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW MOTOR HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITHIN ONE MONTH OF EACH OTHER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT HIGH SPEEDS, THERE WAS A PULSATION AND AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER AND THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, THE BRAKE PULSATION CONTINUED TO PERSIST.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER POWER WINDOW ASSEMBLE BROKE WITH 3 MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. THE VEHICLE IS NOT EVEN 5 YEARS OLD YET. SHOWS POOR MANUFACTURING QUALITY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF, THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED SO THE HEADLIGHT WOULD GO OFF. SECOND, THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. THIRD, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES VIBRATED WHILE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A RED LIGHT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM BEHIND HOWEVER NO ONE WAS INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONTAL DAMAGE AND WAS DRIVEN HOME. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEMS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 6/23/2006 - *NM
POWER WINDOW FAILURE ON 2 OF 4 WINDOWS. *JB
FRONT DRIVERS SEAT IS BROKEN. IT'S OFF THE TRACK AND THE BEARINGS ARE BROKEN, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO FLIP TO THE BACK SEATS IF IN AN ACCIDENT, LEAVING NO ONE IN DRIVERS SEAT AT ALL. *NM
PASSENGER SIDE VENTS EMITTED COLD AIR WHEN HEAT WAS ON AND WASN'T FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. BROUGHT TO MECHANIC WHO REPLACED FAILED ACTIVATOR AT A COSTS OF $787.50. *JB
LEFT REAR BRAKE LIGHT DIMS AND GOES OUT AT NIGHT WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN I BRAKE OR WHILE I AM DRIVING WITH LIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY WHEN I BRAKE. I HAVE HAD THE BULB LOOKED AT AND CHANGED 4 TIMES NOW. EACH TIME I AM ASSURED THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I HAD IT CHANGED AGAIN 2 WEEKS AGO AND I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHED BETWEEN 8,000 AND 10,000 MILES, THE ROTORS BEGIN TO WARP. THE VEHICLE'S ROTORS WERE PREVIOUSLY WARPED 10,000 MILES BEFORE THE LAST OCCURRENCE. THIS PRIMARILY OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 40MPH AND ABOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER DETERMINED THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR OF THE ROTORS; HOWEVER, THE DEALER SUGGESTED RESURFACING THE ROTORS AGAIN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A CLUNKING NOISE WHENEVER HE ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE WHEEL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALER AND WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V007000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION)). THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH HE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 40 MPH OR MORE THERE WAS VIBRATION AND PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE ROTORS/PADS, AND INSTRUCTED THE CONTACT ON HOW TO BRAKE PROPERLY. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ROTORS. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RETURNED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER FOR ANOTHER REPLACEMENT OF THE ROTORS. BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DIFFERENT DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED THEM. NONETHELESS, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
POWER WINDOWS BROKE AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES IT IS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE POWER WINDOWS BREAK IN THE DOORS. COSTING $450.00 TO REPAIR. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS BEEN KEPT IN THE GARAGE. WE HAVE HAD THEM BOTH BREAK ON THE FRONT DOORS IN THE THREE MONTHS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE AND SUDDENLY LURCHED BACKWARDS CRASHING INTO THE GARAGE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BY THE GARAGE AND ITS CONTENTS. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT THERE WAS MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND GARAGE. THE POLICE WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER.
I HAVE A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED, AT APPROXIMATELY 58,000 MILES THE HVAC SYSTEM WON'T DIRECT THE AIR TO THE CORRECT AREA WHEN ASKED TO DO SO. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY TELL ME IT WILL COST $1,500 TO REPAIR. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A VERY COMMON SITUATION WITH THESE VEHICLES. I LIVE IN CENTRAL OHIO AND IT GET VERY COLD IN THE WINTER AND WHEN YOU CAN'T GET HEAT TO COME OUT OF THE FLOOR OR DASH VENTS OR THE DEFROSTER TO KEEP THE WINDOW CLEAR WHILE DRIVING IT BECOMES A SAFETY HAZARD. I'LL PUT THE DATE DOWN WHEN IT STARTED HAPPENING AND IT HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED SINCE. *TR
2001 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO DRIVER SEAT MOUNTS ARE BREAKING CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. *TS THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER BUT HASN'T RECEIVED A RESPONSE YET. *NM
(1) INCREASING FREQUENCY OF DEFROSTER/HEATER/VENTILATION SYSTEM MALFUNCTION (2) AIR OF THE WRONG TEMPERATURE WILL COME FROM THE VENTS, OR MORE OFTEN -AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, NO AIR WILL COME FROM THE VENTS, INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER VENTS, EVEN THOUGH THE BLOWER IS OBVIOUSLY WORKING. I AM OFTEN UNABLE TO CLEAR WINDSHIELD OF CONDENSATION IN ORDER SEE WELL ENOUGH TO DRIVE SAFELY. (3) THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME IT WILL COST $2500.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. SO NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM

I FOLLOW ALL THE RECOMMENDED SCHEDULES OF MAINTENANCE BY THE MANUFACTURER AND KEEP OUR JEEP IS GOOD WORKING ORDER. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR CAR AND THE CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD. SHE NOTICED IMMEDIATELY THAT A ORANGE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED THAT A FAN ASSEMBLY JUST "FELL TO PIECES" AND RESULTED IN THE SHROUD BEING DAMAGED AND CONSEQUENTLY - THE CAR COOLANT OVERHEATED AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THE FAN NEEDED BE REPLACED, THE SHROUD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND A COOLANT FLUSH SERVICE TOO. THE TOTAL COST WOULD BE WELL OVER $700. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE GEAR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR WAS PLACED IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION UNEXPECTEDLY JUMPED INTO DRIVE WHILE THE DOOR WAS AJAR, THIS RESULTED IN THE CONTACT BEING THROWN UNDERNEATH THE MOVING VEHICLE. AFTER TRAVELING OVER THE CONTACT'S LEGS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED FORWARD MOTION UNTIL IT ROLLED OVER A TWENTY FOOT EMBANKMENT AND WAS STOPPED BY A TREE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED LEG INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND LATER INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY WHO DEEMED IT A TOTAL LOSS. ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE GEAR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR WAS IN DRIVE.
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO PURCHASED NEW IN APRIL 2001. AT 66,842 MILES THE OVERDRIVE SNAP RING BROKE INTO 3 PIECES AND WEDGED INTO THE PARK PAWL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO PARK, IT WOULD ROLL. THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REWORKED WITH ALL NEW SEALS AND GASKETS AND THE DAMAGED OVERDRIVE COMPONENTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH I FOUND DOCUMENTATION ONLINE THAT STATED THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY HAD BEEN EXTENDED TO 70,000 MILES, CHRYSLER WOULD NOT EVEN LISTEN TO MY COMPLAINT. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REP ACTUALLY HUNG UP ON ME WHEN I CALLED. THE TOTAL BILL WAS $1,863.78. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO FOUND A DEFECTIVE GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR WHICH WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED BEFORE. IT CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO START BECAUSE THE GOVERNOR SENSOR DETECTED THE VEHICLE WAS IN GEAR WHEN IT WAS ACTUALLY IN PARK. I'VE ALSO HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. HAVE ALREADY SPENT ABOUT $1,000 ON THOSE AND THE REPAIRS ONLY LAST FOR ABOUT 10,000 TO 20,000 MILES. THE FRONT END SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN BRAKING ABOVE 35 MPH WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN MEETING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IF YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE FRONT END, IT IS VERY EASY TO CRASH RIGHT INTO AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. I'VE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL JEEP OWNERS AND READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS I'VE HAD. I HAVE ENGAGED AN ATTORNEY AND WE WILL BE NOTIFYING CHRYSLER OF A LAWSUIT IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. *NM

HVAC SYSTEM'S BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR FOR PASSENGER SIDE CLIMATE CONTROL HAS FAILED. REPAIR COST IS WELL OVER $1000 AND CANNOT BE FIXED BY CONSUMER. MANY THOUSAND CUSTOMERS REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THIS EXACT SYSTEM. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS TURNING TO THE RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CONTACTS VEHICLE. THE CONTACTS WIFE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. THE ROADS WERE DRY. THIS WAS A FRONTAL IMPACT, AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING SERVICE WERE IT IS NOW PARKED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED OR RESURFACED THE ROTORS AND REPLACED THE PADS THREE TIMES. THE REPAIRS TEMPORARILY SOLVED THE PROBLEM, BUT IT RECURRED. COLD AIR BLOWS OUT OF DEFROSTER VENTS, EVEN WHEN SETTING IS TURNED UP TO HIGH HEAT. *NM
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAVE SPENT OVER $3000.00 TO FIX A COOLANT LOW LIGHT THAT KEEPS COMING ON AND LOW OIL PRESSURE. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS DESPITE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND SOMEONE ELSE TO FIGURE OUT THE SOURCE. NO LEAK. REPLACED EVERYTHING FROM WATER PUMP TO FAN. THIS ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE AN ISSUE FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY ON OUR VEHICLE (2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE) HAS BROKEN ON BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS. IT COSTS US ALMOST $600/WINDOW TO REPAIR. THE PART ALONE COSTS $330. WE HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE WE'VE OWNED, AND WE HAVE OWNED OTHER JEEP VEHICLES, ALONG WITH 25+ OTHER CARS. *JB
VEHICLE SHAKES WHEN TRYING TO BREAK AGAIN. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND TOLD THEY HAD SAFETY NOTICE THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE TO BE REPLACED. NEW MFG ON THE ROTORS, SINCE THEY WERE HAVING A PROBLEM. BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED WHEN 2 YRS IN SERVICES WITH ABOUT 9K. 3 YRS LATER (29K PER DEALER) ROTORS NEED TO BE CUT DUE TO WARPING AGAIN. IN 2003 WAS TOLD WHEN THEY CHANGED THE METAL ROTORS, I SHOULD NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN. NOW THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND ROTORS ARE WARPED. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT CHANGED THE VEHICLE'S COOLING FAN IN DECEMBER OF 2005, MARCH OF 2006, AND MAY OF 2007. THE PARTS FAIL TO LAST FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. THE VEHICLE'S RELAY SWITCH WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 102,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
BROKEN METAL DRIVER'S POWER/HEATED SEAT FRAME UNDER NORMAL WEAR. SAME PROBLEM AS IN OTHER PEOPLE'S COMPLAINTS: THE DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME BROKE IN ONE CORNER AND IS NO LONGER ABLE TO BE BOLTED TO THE FLOOR TRACK. SEAT ROCKS AND LEANS BACK. PUTS A LOT OF STRAIN ON OTHER SEAT COMPONENTS. WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IN ACCIDENT. DEALER SAYS WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ENTIRE SEAT AND TRACK ASSEMBLY FOR $1000+. *NM
