DEC 01 (4882 MILES) VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, DIFFICULTY STEERING UPON BRAKING, WARPED ROTORS. MARCH 03 (ABOUT 15000 MILES) SAME PROBLEM, WARPED ROTORS FIXED IN JULY 03. FEB 04 (ABOUT 22000 MILES) SAME PROBLEM, DAIMLER CHRYSLER WILL NOT FIX. WARRANTY IS ALMOST OVER, JULY 14 2004, SPOKE TO MANAGER, HE STATED THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER WILL NOT FIX PROBLEM. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS THERE IS VIBRATION AND STEERING DIFFICULTY UPON BRAKING. *NM
WHEN ENGAGING INTO DRIVE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. DEALER STATED TRANSMISSION GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID FAILED. *AK
PULSATING AND GRABBING BRAKES WHEN APPLIED. TO THE POINT OF POSSIBLE STEERING LOSS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. FIRST FAILURE AT APROX 12000 MILES DEALER REPLACED ALL ROTORS AND FRONT CALIPERS. STATED BRAKES WERE UNDER RATED. APROXIMATELY 12000 MILES LATER VEHICLES IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM ONLY MORE SEVERE. I WILL BE REPLACING THE ROTORS WITH AN AFTERMARKET BRAND. (NOT THE DEFECTIVE ROTORS USED BY CHRYSLER). OLD ROTORS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO COVER THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS UNDER WARRANTY. VEHICLE ONLY HAS CURRENTLY 28000 MILES.*AK
ONE MONTH AGO MY WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE WITH NO WARNING . I HAD IT REPAIRED FOR 360.00 DOLLARS. TODAY I GET IN MY JEEP AND THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR IS BROKEN. I FEEL IT HAS TO BE SOME DEFECT IN THE REGULATOR FOR BOTH FRONT DOORS TO GO BAD A MONTH APART.*AK
I BOUGHT MY JEEP NEW IN JULY, 2001. WITHIN HE 3 YEARS OF OWNING IT, IT IS NOW IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR ITS 5TH TIME BEING SERVICED FOR BRAKE FAILURE. OUT OF THOSE 5 TIMES, IT IS NOW HAVING ITS 3RD SET OF ROTORS. I HAVE SPENT AN UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF PERSONAL TIME AND MONEY IN HAVING THIS VEHICLE REPAIRED AND WILL BE SEEKING RESOLUTION BOTH FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND MICHIGAN STATE LEMON LAW IF NECESSARY. DEALER STATES THAT MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND UNWILLING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS ONCE OUTSIDE OF STANDARD WARRANTY. I FEEL THE BRAKES ARE UNSAFE AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED.*AK
MY 2001 GRAND CHEROKEE IS EXPERIENCING A SEVERE VIBRATION PROBLEMS WHEN BRAKING. I'VE CONTACTED THE NW JEEP DEALERSHIP IN BEAVERTON OREGON AND THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THIS PROBLEM IS NOT TAKEN CARE BY THE JEEP CORPORATION. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN INHERIT DEFECT TO THE CAR SINCE I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM FIXED A YEAR AGO AND NOW THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX THE SAME ISSUE SINCE IT IS NOT UNDER WARANTEE ANY LONGER. I'VE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL JEEP OWNER ON THE SIMILAR VINTAGE VEHICLE AND THEY ARE ALSO HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD FORCE THE JEEP CORPOARTION TO PUT THE VEHICLE AS A RECALL ITEM. *AK
WE HAVE A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 4WD. ABOVE EACH PASSENGER DOOR THERE IS A HANDLE TO HOLD ON TO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WOULD BE CALLED BUT I USE IT TO HANG ON WHEN WE GO AROUND A CORNER, ETC. IN JUNE WE WERE JUST LEAVING THE CLEANERS. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I REACHED UP FOR THE HANDLE AS HE WAS BACKING OUT. ALL OF THE SUDDEN SOMETHING HIT MY NOSE RIGHT UNDER MY EYE. IT REALLY SMARTED AND LEFT A RED WELT. I ASKED HIM TO RE-PARK THE CAR AND WE LOOKED FOR WHAT IN THE WORLD HAD HAPPENED. WE FOUND A SMALL PIECE OF STEEL ON THE SEAT. WE THEN LOOKED OVER THIS SAFETY HANDLE AND REALIZED THAT THE SPRING THAT HOLDS THE HANDLE HAD BROKEN AND HIT MY FACE. I DID NOT BLEED AND THE RED MARK WAS GONE IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. MY CONCERN IS THAT IT NEARLY HIT MY EYE. WHEN WE ASK THE DEALER TO REPLACE IT WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD COST $79. WAS THIS A FREAK FAILURE OR HAS THIS HAPPENED TO OTHERS? IF I HAD BEEN AN INCH SHORTER I COULD HAVE LOST AN EYE. WE FELT THAT THE DEALER WOULD REPLACE THE PART AND WERE SHOCKED THAT THEY WANTED US TO PAY FOR IT. WE HAVE NOT REPLACED IT YET SO THE PART IS AVAILABLE. *LA
WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. AFTER TRYING NUMEROUS TIMES CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
ROTORS WARPED BETWEEN 16000 - 18000 MILES. DEALER DAVIS-MOORE REPLACED FRONT ROTORS, CALIPERS AND PADS. RESURFACED REAR ROTORS AND REPLACED REAR PADS. NO CHARGE. ROTORS WARPED AGAIN AT 34K MILES. THIS TIME DEALER CHARGED ME $170 TO TURN ALL FOUR ROTORS. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE LONGEVITY OF THE ROTORS AND THAT THE TURNING IS NOT A PERMANANT FIX. THERE IS A MATERIAL OR SYSTEM PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. PLEASE LOOK INTO. MV .*AK
I HAD OWNED MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, WHICH I HAD BOUGHT NEW FROM BRENNER MOTORS IN MECHANICSBURG, PA, FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN AND WITHOUT INCIDENT OF ANY KIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAME UNDONE ON THE ONE SIDE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE DUE TO FAULTY AND/OR DEFECTIVE CONSTRUCTION. I AM THE PRIMARY DRIVER AND AM 6'2" AND APPROXIMATELY 200 POUNDS. I BROUGHT THIS MATTER TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP WHILE THE VEHICCLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT WAS ADVISED THAT THIS DEFECT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. ANOTHER JEEP DEALER (HENRY GAY IN LAUREL, MARYLAND) TOLD ME IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $450 TO FIX INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR. I BELEIVE A DEFECT OF THIS KIND ENDANGERS NOT ONLY THE DRIVER BUT ANY BACK SEAT OCCUPANTS AS WELL.
I HAVE A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR, WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY, MY CRUISE CONTROL CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF EVEN BY HITTING THE BREAK AND PUSHING THE OFF BUTTON NUMEROUS TIMES. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY PUTTING THE GEAR IN NUETRAL AND TURNING IT OFF. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHO TALKED MY THROUGH HOW TO LOOSEN A CABLE IN THE ENGINE WHICH APPARENTLY CAUSED THE CRUISE/ACCELERATOR TO STICK. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND EVEN ON MY WAY THERE, THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN, WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL BEING TURNED ON. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT MY CAR FOR THE DAY AND WHEN THEY RETURNED, THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. TWO MONTHS LATER, I WAS LEAVING MY PARKING SPACE AT WORK AND MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. I STRUCK THE BREAK BUT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPIN IN CIRCLES AND FORCED MY VEHICLE TO STRIKE THREE OTHER VEHICLE. JEEP CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION AND THEY SENT ME A LETTER STATING THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. I JUST WANTED TO SEND YOU THIS COMPLAINT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THEIR FINDINGS WERE FALSE AND POORLY RESEARCHED. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TIRE MARKS AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED OTHER THAN BY I HIGH ACCELERATION AND MY FOOT BEING ON THE BREAK.*AK
MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS ONCE AGAIN BURNED UP THE BRAKE ROTORS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I HAD ONLY 10,507 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP "MACHINED" THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. WITHIN 6 MONTHS THE PROBLEM WAS BACK AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. I NOW HAVE 38000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND TODAY WAS INFORMED THE FRONT AND BACK BRAKE ROTORS ARE SHOT. UNFORTUNATELY, IT APPEARS I'M NOT THE ONLY VICTIM OF THIS DEBACLE. I AM TAKING MY CAR TO SOMEONE I CAN TRUST AND I WILL HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED. I INTEND TO PURSUE THIS MATTER AS I FEEL I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF AND SO HAVE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE. THIS GRAND CHEROKEE IS AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE AND I FIND IT DISGRACEFUL THAT CHRYLSER HAS SUCEEDED IN IGNORING THE PROBLEM AND IGNORING THE PEOPLE WHO PURCHASE THEIR VEHICLES. DOES THERE HAVE TO BE LOSS OF LIFE TO GET ANYONE TO ACT ON BEHALF OF THE CONSUMER??? PLEASE TELL ME, WHAT DO WE DO NOW???
FRONT BRAKE ROTOR WARPAGE. FONT ROTORS BECAME SO WARPED THAT CAUSING PULSATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL ALMOST RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN WHERE THEY REPLACE THE CALIPERS, ROTORS ETC UNDER WARRENTY PROVISIONS. WHY WAS THERE A REDESIGN OF THE BRAKES IF THERE WAS NOT AN DESIGN ISSUE WITH THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. AND WHY ARE THEY COVERED UNDER WARRENTY AND NOT UNDER A SAFETY RECALL. IF THE BRAKES ARE INVOLVED IS THAT NOT A "SAFETY" ISSUE. IT IS NICE TO BE ABLE TO STOP WHEN NEEDED. *AK
HAVE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH MY 2001 GRAND CHEROKEE WHERE VIOLENT SHAKING HAPPENS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS AT 13,000 MILES PER A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM CHRYSLER. I HAD SAME ISSUE AGAIN AT 19,000 MILES, ROTORS WERE WARPED AGAIN. I AM HAVING SAME ISSUE NOW AT 26,000 MILES AND THE DEALER STATED THAT ALTHOUGH THIS IS RECURRING ISSUE KNOWN TO THEM AND CHRYSLER, "I AM ON MY OWN" AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ROTORS AGAIN. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY AS THIS IS THE VEHICLE USED TO TAKE MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL AND BACK AND I DO NOT WANT TO RISK AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER CONSUMER CENTER AND THEY STATED THAT BRAKES ARE ONLY COVERED UNTIL 12,000 AND UNLESS A RECALL WAS ISSUED, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME. I FEEL THAT IT IS NOT REASONABLE TO HAVE TO HAVE THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS REPLACED OR ADJUSTED EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES AND THE VIOLENT SHAKING THAT OCCURS FROM THIS DEFECT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.*AK
DRIVERS SEAT FRAME BROKE IN 2 LOCATIONS UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS CAUSING THE SEAT TO BE UNSTABLE AND MAKE ROCKING MOTIONS WHILE TURNING AND STOPPING.
HEAVILY PULSATING BRAKES WITH LIGHT TO MEDIUM PRESSURE ON BRAKES. DEFECT IS APPARENTLY CAUSED BY DAIMLERCHRYSLER USING DEFECTIVE CALIPERS ON FRONT DISC BRAKE SYSTEM. SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.
BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT AND REAR WINDOW MOTORS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED
DEALER REPLACED AT 10,000 MILES THE FRONTS ROTORS AND PADS. AT 30,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS/PADS, AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED. AT 46,000 MILES THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS WERE RESURFACED AND THE PADS WERE REPLACED. *AK *NM
WINDOW REGULATOR BREAKS AND THE WINDOW DROPS DOWN INTO THE DOOR,SO FAR 3 WINDOWS. *NM
THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE BEGINNING OF PURCHASE. WHEN I'M STOPPED AND BEGINNING A TURN WITH THE STEERING WHEEL, THE WHEEL WILL MAKE A GRIND AND/OR SQUEAKING NOISE. I'VE NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I'VE TAKEN IT IN FOR REPAIR, BUT APPARANTLY, IT NEVER HAPPENS WHEN IT'S THERE AT THE SHOP. THE FIRST TIME I REPORTED IT, THEY OILED THE STEERING COLUMN, THAT WAS ALL, AND; THE NOISE CONTINUED.*AK
AFTER HAVING ROTORS RESURFACED THREE TIMES AND HAVING THEM REPLACED ONCE, THE ROTORS HAVE ONCE AGAIN WARPED TO THE POINT OF CAUSING VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS HAS BECOME A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET HURT IF A SAFETY RECALL IS NOT DONE. CHRYSLER SEEM TO BELIEVE IT IS THE COMSUMERS PROBLEM AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO WORK WITH THE COMSUMERS ON A SOLUTION. FOR $35,000 YOU EXPECT TO AT LEAST HAVE WORKING BRAKES.*AK
BRAKE ROTORS ON MY 2001 JEEP GRANDE CHEROKEE HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT 7,968 MILES, 14,133 MILES, 21,839 MILES AND THE CONDITION IS RECURRING AT 26,677 MILES. INFORMATION FROM THE DEALER INDICATES THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM EFFECTIVE THOUSANDS OF JEEP OWNERS NATIONWIDE AND DAIMLERCHRYSTER IS NOT COOPERATING AND NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT THAT IS BEING REPLACE WITH DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT. ODI - NHTSA APPARENTLY HAS NOT LAUNCHED A FORMAL INVESTIGATION, BUT CERTAINLY SHOULD. TO FORCE DAIMLERCHRYSLER TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND INITIATE A MUCH NEEDED RECALL.*AK
TRANSMISSION/POWERTRAIN/ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS/BRAKES AT JUST OVER 36,000 MILES THE POWERTRAIN/TRANSMISSION MODULE FAILED. THERE WERE THREE MINOR INCIDENTS WHERE WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING NORMAL INTO TRAFFIC THE TRANSMISSION ROARED AND SPUN, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE, I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AFTER LETTING UP ON THE GAS, THEN SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION "KICKED IN". THE FOURTH TIME THIS OCCURRED, HOWEVER, WAS WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND I HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY ONRAMP AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. A SENSOR OR TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $500 (JUST OUT OF WARRANTY) TO ME. AT 50,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING ALONG THE ROAD, I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THOUGHT I HAD A BLOWOUT OF A TIRE. IT WAS NOT THE TIRE HOWEVER, IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW. SOMETHING INSIDE THE DOOR POPPED AND THE WINDOW FELL DOWN IN THE DOOR. ANOTHER BILL IN EXCELL OF $500. NOW AT 63,001 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION ONCE AGAIN JUST WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE OFF MY STREET, THE ENGINE WHINED AS THOUGH I WERE IN NEUTRAL BUT IT WOULD NOT KICK IN. IT WOULD ONLY GO IN REVERSE, NONE OF THE FORWARD GEARS WOULD MAKE THE CAR GO FORWARD. IT WAS TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC WHO SAYS THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION MUST NOW BE REPLACED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THERE WAS SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE PADS TWICE. A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DISC WERE TOO CLOSE TO THE ROTORS WHICH CAUSED THE EXCESSIVE HEAT. THE EXCESSIVE HEAT CAUSED THE ROTORS TO WARP. *NM
DRIVING DOWN CITY STREET TO WORK, HEARD LOUD POP FOLLOWED BY CLANK CLANK COMING FROM ENGINE, IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, MECHANIC DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS BROKEN CONNECTING ROD. DEALER WANTS $6000 TO REBUILD MOTOR. *NM
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS PLACED IN "PARK" WITH ENGINE ON AND LEFT VACANT WHILE OWNER WALKED TO NEARBY HOUSING COMPLEX MAILBOXE. THE VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, INTO REVERSE, AND STRUCK THE OWNER AND THE BUILDING BEFORE OWNER RE-ENTERED VEHICLE AND REGAINED CONTROL. THE OWNER SUFFERED A SIGNIFICANT SCRATCH, ABOUT SEVEN INCHES LONG, ON WAIST AND SCRATCHES AND BRUISING ON THIGH, NOW SWOLLEN AND CAUSING A LIMP. VEHICLE'S TAILGATE IS SMASHED IN, BUMPER SCRAPED AND REAR WIPER BENT. *JB
HAVE EXPERIENCED PULSATION/VIBRATION DURING BRAKING SINCE OWNING MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE PULSATION/VIBRATION IS MODERATE TO SEVERE, DEPENDING ON BRAKING SPEED. DEALER RESURFACED THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AT 13241 AND 23328 MILES, AND, APPLIED TSB 0500302 AT 35470 MILES. VEHICLE NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 45000 MILES, AND, PULSATION/VIBRATION IS NOW OCURRING AGAIN. I HAVE WRITTEN DAIMLER CHRYSLER CONCERNING THIS ONGOING PROBLEM, AND, AM CURRENTLY AWAITING THEIR REPLY. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT JUST AN ANNOYANCE. BRAKE PULSATION DUE TO BRAKE ROTORS HAVING EXCESSIVE RUN OUT (WARPED ROTORS) IS A SAFTEY ISSUE. OPERATING A VEHICLE THAT HAS BRAKE ROTORS WITH EXCESSIVE RUN OUT WILL CAUSE ONE OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: A. EXCESSIVE HEAT IN ROTORS, RESULTING IN ADDITIONAL ROTOR WARPAGE AND POSSIBLY ROTOR FAILURE, AND, INEFFECTIVE BRAKING; B. EXCESSIVE HEAT IN CALIPERS, RESULTING IN CALIPER FAILURE, AND, POSSIBLE BRAKE FAILURE; C. EXCESSIVE HEAT IN BRAKE FLUID, RESULTING IN INEFFECTIVE BRAKING. I COULD CONTINUE TO HAVE THE DEALER RESURFACE THE FRONT ROTORS ON THIS VEHICLE (AT A COST TO ME OF $110.00 PER VISIT) UNTIL THE ROTORS CANNOT BE RESURFACED ANYMORE, AND THEN PURCHASE NEW ROTORS, ONLY TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF RESURFACING THE ROTORS EVERY 10000 MILES. DOING SO IS NOT A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, THIS IS JUST TREATING THE SYMPTOM OF A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY ISSUE. 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO. TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY FAILED AT 43000 MILES AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE SHOP THAT CHRYSLER HAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION BODY VALVES FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. *JB
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING 35-55 MPH. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER TURNED THE FRONT ROTORS ON THE FIRST OCCASION, REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS ON THE SECOND OCCASION, AND TURNED THE FRONT ROTORS ON THE THIRD OCCASION. CURRENTLY, THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITH LESS THEN 11,500 MILES.*AK THE ROTORS KEPT WARPING. *TC
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED THEY PULSATE AND A HIGH RATE OF SPEED CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL AND VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND ARE FINE BUT EACH TIME I HAVE TO GET THE ROTATORS TURNED AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO RESOLVE FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES BUT EVENTUALLY IT RETURNS. I HAVE HAD THE ROTATORS TURNED 3 TIMES NOW AND THE PROBLEM HAS REAPPEARED AGAIN WITH THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE NOW IS TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED. EVEN AFTER ROTATORS ARE REPLACED I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MECHANIC'S THAT THE PROBLEM WILL STILL OCCUR DUE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM CREATING TOO MUCH HEAT AND EVENTUALLY WHARPING THE ROTATORS AGAIN. *AK
DISC BRAKE ROTOR FAILURE. VEHICLE HAS 33000 MILES. SEVERE SHUDDERING AT THE FRONT END OCCURS WHEN BRAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO FRONT ROTORS HAVING WARPED. SEVERE ENOUGH TO EFFECT CONTROL OF VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY IF WERE TO OCCUR IN EMERGENCY OR BAD WEATHER SITUATION. SHUDDERRING IS NOT AS SEVERE AT LESS THAN HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SUCH WARPING OF THE ROTORS IS NOT NORMAL AND FROM THE NUMBER OF OTHER POSTS THERE IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT OCCURING.

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. AT 24K MILES, THE BRAKES VIBRATED SO BAD THAT I HAD TO APPLY SIGNIFICANT FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAINTAIN SAFE BRAKING. MY JEEP DEALER TOLD ME I HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM REDONE-AND I DID- $600+ BILL. NOW 10K MILES LATER, THE BRAKES ARE AGAIN PULSING. THE DEALER NOW SAYS THE ROTORS NEED TO BE RESURFACE-SAME ONES THEY REPLACED 10K MILES AGO AND THAT THIS ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WHAT IS GOING ON? WHY NO RECALL? THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT FOUNDATION BROKE AND CAME OF THE TRACK. THIS CAUSED THE SEAT TO START RECLINING BACKWARDS. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE A WELD ON THE SEAT HAD FRACTURE. THE CONSUMER FEELS THE SEAT WOULD HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE STRUCTURE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. *NM
