ENGINE REPEATEDLY OVERHEATS, REPAIRS ARE VERY COSTLY FOR PROBLEM NOT GETTING FIXED. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I HAVE BEEN GETTING A BURNING SMELL INSIDE MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHEN I OPERATE THE DRIVERS SEAT HEATER. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER HOTLINE TODAY TO SEE ABOUT ANY RECALLS ,THEY REPLIED NONE ON THIS VEHICLE. I TOLD THEM I WAS CONCERNED THAT IT WOULD CATCH FIRE, I GOT NO REPLY OTHER THEN THERE ARE NO CAMPAIGNSON THAT PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT COULD CATCH FIRE. NOW MY SEAT HEATER HAS NOT BEEN WORKING, THE LIGHT GOES ON BUT NO HEAT. PLEASE ADVISE! [XXX] I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE LAST MONTH USED. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT SEAT IN MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO FAILED, WITH THE METAL SUPPORT TRACK CRACKING AND THEN BREAKING, LEAVING THE SEAT NEARLY FREE. THE SEAT HAD BEEN LOOSE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, SINCE THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY OF 2009. I HAD RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER DUE TO NOISE IN THE SEAT FRAME, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS "NATURAL WEAR AND TEAR" AND WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE TRACK WELDED TO REPAIR AND REINFORCE THE METAL, BUT IT DOES NEED A NEW TRACK FOR ANY PERMANENT REPAIR, WHICH CHRYSLER ESTIMATES AT $1,500. IF I HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THIS SEAT WAS WOBBLING, I BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE FAILED COMPLETELY AND WOULD NOT HAVE RESTRAINED ME IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE, IF NOT ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER/JEEP, WHO HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS FOR MANY YEARS IN THE GRAND CHEROKEE, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN IN RECENT DAYS. MY MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME IT WAS CLEAR THE SEAT TRACK THAT IS NOW IN THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ORIGINAL, AND WAS A REPLACEMENT PART OF THE ORIGINAL, WHICH ALSO MUST HAVE FAILED. *TR
HEATED SEAT IN MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS NOT WORKING. I CHECKED WITH MY JEEP DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME JEEP FOR THIS PROBLEM DO TO THE POTENTIAL OF THE HEATER STARTING A FIRE. MY JEEP DID NOT FALL INTO THIS RECALL. I AM A DIESEL TECH AND DECIDED THAT I WOULD PURCHASE A NEW HEATED SEAT ELEMENT AND INSTALL IT MY SELF. I DID THIS TODAY 02-21-2010 AND FOUND THAT THE HEATING ELEMENT HAD BURNT AND STARTED TO BURN THE SEAT CUSHION. I FOUND THIS TO BE VERY DISTURBING. I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. I HAVE SINCE DISCONNECTED BOTH HEATED SEATS IN MY JEEP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE YESTERDAY MORNING AND HAD UNINTENDED ACCELERATION!! I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN GREAT CONDITION ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO AND HAD 0 PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION UNTIL THIS POINT, AND A VERY SHARP POINT AT THAT! I WAS TRAVELING UPHILL AND WENT TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE DOING APPROX. 20 MILES PER HOUR, I ACCELERATED PAST THE VEHICLE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE GAS PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL CAME ON, BUT WHEN I TRIED TAPPING AND THEN(WHEN THAT DIDN'T HELP) I WAS HOLDING THE BRAKES AS FAR DOWN AS I COULD BUT WOULD NOT STOP THIS VEHICLE THAT WAS CHARGING FORWARD WITH THE ENGINE AT HIGH REVS.. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL WHICH CALMED THIS DOWN. IT TOOK THE WHOLE LENGTH OF THE STREET TO STOP THIS, AND IF THERE WERE ANY OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS-SERIOUS ACCIDENT!!! I AM HOPING THERE IS SOMETHING I CAN DO TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BUT MY MECHANIC HAS NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS. I OF COURSE CAME HOME AND GOOGLED ON MY COMPUTER TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS, AND THERE ARE MANY, MANY WITH HORROR STORIES OF MAJOR ACCIDENTS! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE AS I LOVE THE VEHICLE BUT CANNOT PUT PEOPLES LIVES IN DANGER IF THIS IS TO HAPPEN AGAIN.. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING REMOTELY DANGEROUS AS THIS HAPPEN, AND I HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS TO THIS POINT!! THE SEAT OF MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BROKE RIGHT OFF THE FLOOR. I CAN NOW LIFT THE SEAT RIGHT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT A SAFE SITUATION. *TR
SEVERAL WINDOW MOTORS ON MY 2001 JEEP HAVE BROKE IN THE PAST TWO YEARS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE WINDOW FALLS DOWN BY ITSELF AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP WITHOUT GETTING OUT OF THE CAR TO MANUALLY PUSH IT BACK UP. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO PUSH MY WINDOW BACK UP FOR FEAR OF IT GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GET IT BACK UP IN THE FREEZING COLD WEATHER. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE WINDOW FALLING DOWN HARD AND SHATTERING. PLEASE ALSO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE FACT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THREE OF MY WINDOWS SO FAR AND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SINCE IT IS SO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, I AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS ARE FORCED TO LIVE WITH IT UNTIL I CAN SAVE UP ENOUGH MONEY TO GET IT FIXED. *TR
OWNER OF 2001 JEEP GR CHEROKEE LAREDO. I WISH TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT ABOUT THE DRIVER'S SEAT. STARTED OUT WITH AN ANNOYING SQUEAK AND SOME POPPING ON ENTRANCE, EXIT, ACCELERATION, AND BRAKING OF VEHICLE. WITHIN 1 MTH OF NOTICING THIS PROBLEM THE FRONT BOLT BROKE AWAY FROM THE SEAT FRAME AND METAL THEN IT WENT TO THE BACK RIGHT BOLT. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO GET THIS WELDED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS TOO INVOLVED, I TRIED SEARCHING THE JUNK YARDS FOR A USED SEAT AND APPARENTLY THESE SEATS ARE HARD TO COME BY, AND HAVE ALSO SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP IN REGARDS TO GETTING THIS FIXED AND I WAS QUOTED A PRICE BUT TOLD NO GUARANTEE WITH THE REPAIR AND THE PART WAS ON A BACKORDER. TO DATE I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE REPLACEMENT OR FIX CAUSING ME NOT TO PASS INSPECTION (WHEN THE INSPECTOR GOT IN TO CHECK SOMETHING ELSE HE WOUND UP IN MY SON'S CAR SEAT.). I HAVE HAD TO PUT WOODEN BLOCKS UNDERNEATH BUT IT STILL ROCKS BACK AND FORTH. *TR
THE CAR OVERHEATED AND YOU CAN HEAR THE BOILED COOLANT FLUSHING BACK INTO THE RESERVOIR AND POURING OUT THROUGH THE DRAIN. THIS I FOUND OUT WAS CAUSED DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONING OR RATHER ELECTRICAL SHORTING OF THE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) LOCATED IN THE HOOD NEAR THE FIREWALL BEHIND THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. THIS CAUSES A FAILURE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SO THE FAN THAT IS SUPPOSED TO KICK ON WHEN YOU TURN ON THE AIR FAILS TO START. I ALSO RECENTLY REPLACED MY INLINE-6 DUE TO A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING THE COOLANT TO FLOW AND MIX WITH THE OIL THEREFORE, RESULTING IN LOW LEVELS OR COOLANT IN THE RESERVE AND THE RADIATOR. IT ALSO CAUSES THE OIL LEVEL TO INCREASE DRASTICALLY. *TR
MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HAS BEEN SHUTTING OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING AND ALSO SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T START PROPERLY. MY MECHANIC DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME HE IS LOOKING AT IT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS. WHAT REALLY CONCERNS ME THOUGH IS THAT IT IS JUST SHUTTING OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. THIS DEFECT MAY CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHILE I AM IN TRAFFIC. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT CAUSE IT IS HAPPENING EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT NOW. I DID FIND OUT ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS OUT THERE AND THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER TO FIND OUT IF THAT IS REALLY THE PROBLEM. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS COMPLAINT AT CHRYSLER. I JUST WANT ANSWERS SO THAT I CAN GET IT FIXED. I AM REALLY WORRIED THAT I WILL BE IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WIFE AND SON REQUIRED TO FIND ALTERNATE VEHICLE. THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF HEATER ON 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED FAILED. NO DEFROST TO CLEAR WINDOWS AND FRIGID AIR BEING BLOWN ONTO PASSENGER. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOU INVESTIGATE THE (I BELIEVE UNCONSCIONABLE) NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS OF THE FAILURE OF THE "BLEND DOORS" ON 1999 TO 2004 JEEPS. IT IS A DESIGN FAILURE THAT IS THE RESULT OF A PIECE OF PLASTIC BREAKING IN AN INACCESSIBLE LOCATION UNDER THE DASH. THE CAR IS RENDERED DANGEROUS WITH NO WAY TO CLEAR WINDSHIELD AND DRIVER/PASSENGERS UNABLE TO GET INSIDE TEMPERATURE TO A TOLERABLE LEVEL. THE REPAIR FOR THE APPROXIMATELY $180 PART COSTS $1200 FROM THE DEALER AND $900 TO $1000 FROM INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS. *TR
REPEATED FAILURE OF BLOWER FAN FOR WHICH THERE IS APPARENTLY NOT A SUITABLE FIX FROM JEEP. CURRENT FIX IS EITHER (A) PART FROM SUPPLIER OTHER THAN JEEP WHICH FAILS EVERY 6-9 MONTHS OR (B) JEEP RECOMMENDED PART WHICH REDUCED AIR VOLUME SO DRAMATICALLY THAT DEFROSTING WINDOWS IS UNSAFE. FAILURE OF THE BLOWER MOTOR IS ALSO UNSAFE DUE TO THE INABILITY TO DEFROST THE WINDOWS. *TR

I OWN A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON FRIDAY 2/11/09 I HAD TO CALL AAA AUTO SERVICE. THE IGNITION ON THE CAR LOCKED UP. THE AUTO MECHANIC. THAT THEY SENT OUT GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK WITH A RUBBER HAMMER AND WALKED OVER TO MY CAR AND HIT THE IGNITION A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IT CAME UNLOCK. HE SAID THAT THEY GET A COUPLE OF CALLS A WEEK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION IN CARS 3 OR 4 TIMES A MONTH. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND TRIED TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY WERE NO HELP. HEAT ONLY WORKS ON DRIVER SIDE. COLD AIR FROM PASSENGER SIDE. MY MECHANIC THE A/C BLEND DOOR IS PROBABLY STUCK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO PULL THE DASH TO FIX THE PROBLEM. A YEAR AGO THE HEATER CORE WAS REPLACED REQUIRING THE NEED TO PULL THE DASH. THE LABOR FOR THAT ALONE WAS $900. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED FOR THE JEEP & THE DODGE DURANGO. I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THESE ARE SO COMMON, THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE BLEND DOOR ARE NOT EVEN AVAILABLE. WITH THE BELOW 0 TEMPERATURES WE ARE HAVING THIS WINTER I CAN'T GO VERY FAR WITHOUT FREEZING! *TR

2001 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED EDITION BLEND DOORS AND RECIRC DOOR ALL BROKEN AT 48K MILES. POOR DESIGN OF THE PARTS (PLASTIC) CAUSED THE FAILURES. *TR
ALL FOUR WINDOWS GEARS AND TRACKS HAVE BROKEN WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. MOTORS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED ON ALL FOUR WINDOWS. *TR
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - FRONT DRIVER LEATHER SEAT COMPLETELY BROKE FROM THE TRACK. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 1 YEAR. WHEN I BOUGHT THE JEEP I HEARD SQUEAKING BELOW THE CHAIR, BUT NATURALLY THE DEALER TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. 1 YEAR LATER THE SEAT CAME APART. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE DEFECTIVE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE SINCE THE SEAT WAS ON BACKORDER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 170,000. 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL HEATER AND DEFROST ONLY WORKS ON ONE SIDE OF VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL COST $1200.00 TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE BLEND DOORS ON THE SYSTEM. WITH NO HEAT FOR DEFROST ON ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL EXTREME HAZARD FOR VISIBILITY. *TR

I OWN A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED AND THOUGH THE BLOWER MOTOR WORKS THE DUAL HEATER/ BLEND DOORS STOPPED WORKING. IT WAS A COOL NIGHT IN MICHIGAN AND THE WINDSHIELD QUICKLY FOGGED UP WITH NO LUCK OF CLEARING UP BECAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTION. I IMMEDIATELY ROLLED THE WINDOW DOWN AND HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH MY HEAD STICKING OUT OF THE WINDOW TO SEE. ALSO THE NEXT MORNING ON A SUNNY DAY THE SAME EVENT HAPPENED WITH THE WINDOWS FOGGED AND SUN DIRECTLY SHINING ON ME I COULD NOT EVEN SEE ONE THING. A PERSON COULD WIPE THE INSIDE OF THE WINDOWS OFF WITH LITTLE IMPROVEMENT OF VISIBILITY. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL THE VEHICLE OVER FOR FEAR OF HITTING SOMEONE OR ANOTHER CAR DISCONTINUED DRIVING IT. THIS IS SUCH A DANGEROUS FAILURE. I DISCUSSED IT WITH AN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER AND WAS TOLD IT IS DEFECTIVE PART IN ENGINEERING BY CHRYSLER. BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE HERE SHOULD NOT THIS BE RECALLED! EVEN THOUGH I REPLIED NO TO YOUR 4 QUESTIONS ON THE RIGHT THE REALITY IS A YES COULD BE APPLIED TO 3 OF THE 4 IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITHOUT A DOUBT. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V117000 (SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I STARTED NOTICING THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT FELT LIKE IT WAS TIPPING. I ALSO NOTICED A NOISE AND MOVEMENT WHEN I GOT INTO THE SEAT OR TURNED A CORNER WHILE DRIVING. I REMOVED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT ASSEMBLY AND FOUND THAT THE LEFT FRONT MOUNTING POINT HAD BROKEN AWAY FROM THE FLOOR MOUNTED TRACKS. I REMOVED THE TRACKS FROM THE SEAT FRAME AND FOUND WHERE A WEDGE SHAPED PIECE OF THE SEAT FRAME HAD BROKEN AWAY AT THE MOUNTING HOLE ALLOWING THE SEAT TO ROCK. I FOUND NUMEROUS CRACKS IN THE SEAT FRAME RADIATING OUT FROM THAT SAME MOUNTING HOLE. I ALSO FOUND A CRACK THE TOP OF THE SEAT FRAME POSSIBLY CAUSED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. TO REPAIR THE FAILURE I WELDED THE WEDGE SHAPED PIECE BACK TO THE FRAME. I ALSO WELDED THE CRACKS RADIATING OUT FROM THAT MOUNTING HOLE. I NOTICED THAT THE MOUNTING HOLES AT ALL FOUR POINTS WERE MUCH LARGER THAN THE MOUNTING STUDS ON THE FLOOR MOUNTED TRACKS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FLARED NUTS USED TO MOUNT THE FRAME TO THE TRACKS DIDN'T SEEM WIDE ENOUGH TO ADEQUATELY COVER HOLES AND PROVIDE THE SUPPORT NEEDED TO PREVENT FAILURE. I REMOUNTED THE FRAME ON THE TRACKS USING LARGE WASHERS UNDER THE ORIGINAL FLARED NUTS TO SPREAD THE STRESS OVER MORE OF THE FRAME SURFACE. DURING THE ORIGINAL INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THE OTHER FRONT MOUNTING POINT HAD STARTED TO DISTORT AROUND THE NUT. I FLATTENED THAT BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL SHAPE WITH A HAMMER. MY CONCERN WOULD BE THAT IF THAT OTHER MOUNTING POINT HAD FAILED DURING A REAR END COLLISION IT COULD HAVE ALLOWED THE SEAT TO PITCH BACK OR BECOME COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE FLOOR MOUNTED TRACKS WITH RESULTING INJURIES. IF IT HAD BECOME DETACHED DURING NORMAL OPERATION IT COULD HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, AND A FEW WEEKS LATER I GOT UP IN THE MORNING AND IT WAS COLD SO I TURNED ON MY HEATER. UNFORTUNATELY I GOT NO HEAT. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE BLEND DOORS ON MY VEHICLE WERE BROKEN. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. NOW IF IT WERE JUST A COMFORT ISSUE, I COULD LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT, BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT THE DEFROSTERS RUN THROUGH THE HEATER CORE. THEREFORE IS THE BLEND DOORS ARE BROKEN, YOU HAVE NO WAY TO CLEAR YOUR WINDSHIELD. SINCE I LIVE IN UTAH, THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE TO HAVE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES, THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL MADE. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WILL END UP HAVING TO PAY A DEALERSHIP $1500 TO FIX THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR
MY DRIVER'S SEAT STARTED TO FEEL LOOSE AND TILTED TOWARD THE RIGHT AND WAS SQUEAKING. THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SUBMERGED IN WATER, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW. IF IT WAS SUBMERGED INTO WATER, THE DEALER SOLD IT TO HIM AFTER THE FACT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN SUBMERGED IN WATER AND WOULD NOT REPAIR THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,544.

PASSENGER WINDOW WENT AT ~85,000 MILES WENT TO DEALERSHIP FOR PRICING TO FIX ~$300/WINDOW + LABOR @ $90/HR DRIVER WINDOW WENT AT ~160,000 MILES HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR PARTS ONLINE AND IN JUNK YARDS... IF THE WINDOWS ARE NOT PUSHED UP ALL THE WAY AND TAPED SECURELY THEY WILL LEAK FROM THE RAIN OR WIND WILL GET IN AND CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BE UNCONTROLLABLE! THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT IS NOT SECURELY ANCHORED TO THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION IT IS OBVIOUS THE MANUFACTURER USED POOR WELDING OR HAS INSTITUTED A POOR DESIGN TO ANCHOR THE SEAT PROPERLY. THE SEAT ITSELF IS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION, HOWEVER, IT ROCKS UNSAFELY AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. WE HAVE A 2001 JEEP LAREDO AND THE LEFT REAR AXLE SEALS AND BEARINGS HAVE GONE OUT TWICE. BEARINGS START MAKING NOISE AT AROUND 35 MPH. THE SEALS FAILED AND CAUSED OIL TO GET ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LINING CAUSING EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BE INEFFECTIVE. THE FIRST TIME THIS WENT OUT THE VEHICLE HAD APPROX. 75,000 MI. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AT APPROX. 82,000 MI. THIS HAS COST $1100.00 TO FIX THE FIRST TIME AND IS AT THE DEALER NOW FOR THE SECOND REPAIR WHICH WILL COST AT LEAST $1500.00 TO REPAIR BEARINGS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE AND/OR LININGS. *TR

PREVIOUSLY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME FAILED. PRIOR TO INVESTIGATING WHY THE SEAT BACK WOBBLED AND DID NOT OFFER SUPPORT WHILE DRIVING. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER WHERE THE UNIT WAS PURCHASED. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW SEAT FRAME ASSEMBLY. I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY COMPLAINTS OR RECALLS, THEY REPLIED WITH "NONE". THE VEHICLE IS PRIMARILY DRIVEN BY MY WIFE AND HAS ONLY 45,000 MILES AND CHANGE ON IT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE COST OF THE SEAT FRAME ASSEMBLY WOULD BE ABOUT $1200 NOT INCLUDING LABOR TO REMOVE THE COVERING AND REPLACE THE FRAME. ETC. THE DEALER OFFERED NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STRIPPED OFF THE COVERING REVEALING A CRACKED BOTTOM SEAT FRAME. THEY ORDERED A JEEP BOTTOM SEAT FRAME AT A COST OF $363.75 AND CHARGED ME LABOR OF $281.00 TO STRIP OFF THE COVERING, INSTALL THE SEAT AND RECOVER ACCORDINGLY. ALSO, TO COMPOUND THE AFOREMENTIONED NEITHER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OR PASSENGER SIDE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENTS FUNCTION. THIS IS NOT A RESULT OF THE SEAT FRAME AS STATED ABOVE. IS THERE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN RENDER IN TERMS OF REIMBURSEMENT? I CAN PROVIDE PHOTOS OF THE FAILED SEAT FRAME ASSEMBLY AS WELL AS COPIES OF THE MONIES PAID TO TAKE CARE OF THE REPAIR. II HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM EXTENSIVELY ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE VOLUMES OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. A SERIOUS RESIDUAL OF THIS SEAT FRAME FAILURE HAS RESULTED IN THE SEAT TOTALLY COLLAPSING TO THE REAR WITH A SUDDEN STOP OR IMPACT LEAVING THE DRIVER IN A DANGEROUS RECLINING POSITION. IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT PERHAPS NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MAY NOT HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO REPORT IT TO THE PROPER AGENCIES OR AUTHORITIES.
