TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE, AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 60 MPH IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL, STRUCK THE WALL OF A GARAGE, AND STOPPED AFTER CRASHING INTO AN ORNAMENTAL STONE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAS 2 POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ISSUES WITH IT. DUE TO A MANUFACTURERS DESIGN FLAW, THE BRAKE LIGHTS MALFUNCTION ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE LIGHT SHORTS ITSELF OUT WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED ON LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES AT NIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IN MY REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAS BROKEN. SINCE JEEP SAW FIT TO ONLY PROVIDE A KEY ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, THIS REAR DOOR NEITHER LOCKS NOR UNLOCKS WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A POTENTIALLY LIFETHREATENING SITUATION IF I WERE INVOLVED IN A WRECK AND WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THIS DOOR. MY COOLING FAN BROKE, I REPLACED WITH A NON-OEM MODEL WHICH CHEWED A HOLE IN MY RADIATOR AFTER 100 MILES. REPLACED RADIATOR AND FAN. RADIATOR BROKE AFTER A YEAR, RE-REPLACED. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THAT THESE ARE FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEMS AND NOT THE RESULT OF SOME ACTION ON MY PART. *TR
BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOWS WENT OUT WITHIN ABOUT 6 MONTHS OF EACH. BROKEN PLASTIC PIECE EACH TIME. ALMOST $400 TO REPAIR EACH. *TR
VISIBILITY: DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM:WINDSHIELD:BLOWER AIR CONDITIONER (A/C HEATER VENTILATION COMPONENT BROKE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. DEALER ESTIMATED 2000.00 FOR REPAIR DUE TO NEED FOR DASHBOARD REMOVAL. PROBLEM WAS BLEND DOOR BROKE OR DAMAGED. VEHICLE NORMALLY WAS RUNNING WITH A/C ON, BUT NOW IT SOMETIMES DID NOT WORK. PROBLEM SHOWED UP AFTER TAKING CAR FOR A/C SERVICE TO JEEP DEALERSHIP. CAR IS 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE.*AK

WINDOW REGULATOR ON BOTH DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS HAVE FAILED. MY JEEP HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT, IT IS A 2001 GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED.
ON JUNE 15, 2007, AS I PREPARED TO GO TO THE AIRPORT. I ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WHICH THEN JUST FELL COMPLETELY DOWN INTO THE DOOR. I HAD TO BORROW A FRIENDS CAR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR. *TR
A/C BLEND AIR DOOR PROBLEM. HIGH COST OF REPAIR. *TR
NOTICED SLIGHT SEAT MOVEMENT DURING OPERATION. SEAT FAILED WHILE DRIVING (FRONT LEFT BRACKET AREA OF DRIVER SEAT.) TEMPORARY FIX BY FOLDING REAR SEAT TO SUPPORT DRIVER SEAT FROM FALLING BACK. BOLTED FRONT PART OF SEAT BACK TOGETHER, HELD FAIRLY. RIGHT REAR PORTION NEAR SEAT BACK BROKE SHORTLY AFTER, UNABLE TO REPAIR. SEAT ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE, IS LEANED TO THE RIGHT, AND LEANS TO THE REAR. ORIGINAL SEAT STILL IN USE. *TR
MY HEATER IN MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS BEEN SUPPOSEDLY FIXED 5X AND IT HAS NEVER OPERATED PROPERLY. FIRST NO AIR AT ALL WOULD COME THRU THE VENTS THEN IT BLEW ONLY COLD AIR OUT NO MATTER WHAT THE SETTING WAS AND NOW IT WON'T BLOW HEAT OUT. MECHANICS ARE PUZZLED AS TO WHY IT WONT OPERATE PROPERLY SOME SAY ITS THE SENSOR SOME SAY ITS THE THERMOSTAT OR THE COMPUTER CHIP HASNT RESET ITSELF. THEY KEEP TRYING TO FIX IT YET IT HAS NEVER RAN PROPERLY WITH THE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL. I AM PASSED MY WARRANTY COVERAGE DATE. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO KEEP DISHING OUT MONEY TIME AND AGAIN FOR THE SAME THING. WITH AS MANY TIMES IT HAS SUPPOSEDLY BEEN FIXED IT SHOULD BE ALL NEW PARTS IN THERE FOR THE HEAT/AC COMPONENTS TO WORK!!! *TR
AIR CONDITIONER VENTS AND DEFROSTER VENTS NO LONGER CONTROLLABLE VIA AUTOMATIC THERMOSTAT. BLEND DOOR FAILURE. I AM UNABLE TO HEAT, COOL, DEFROST, OR VENTILATE THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE FRONT DEFROST FUNCTION. INABILITY TO DEFROST THE FRONT WINDSHIELD RESULTED IN CONDITIONS UNSAFE FOR CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY. *JB
I HAVE 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH ELECTRONIC DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLS WILL EVENTUALLY REQUIRE MAJOR REPAIR IN ORDER TO CURE HOT AIR/COLD AIR BLOWING FROM VENTS WHEN THEY'RE NOT SET TO DO SO. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO POP UP AGAIN AFTER ANOTHER 50K MILES AFTER REPAIR, IS GENERALLY $800-$1500 FROM A DEALERSHIP. SHOULD YOU OPT TO DO THIS REPAIR YOURSELF, THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED, QUITE THE ARDUOUS PROCESS, AND PARTS ARE APPROXIMATELY >$300.
THE BRACKET HOLDING THE SEAT TO THE FLOOR HAS BROKEN NEAR THE MOUNTING BOLTS MAKING THE SEAT ROCK WHILE SITTING IN IT. I AM AFRAID THAT IF IN AN ACCIDENT THE SEAT MIGHT COME COMPLETELY OFF OF ITS MOUNTS. *TR
THE METAL HOLDING SEAT TO FLOOR WITH BOLTS IS STRIPPED. *TR
THE HEATER AND DEFROSTER HAVE COMPLETELY MALFUNCTIONED. THIS HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE IN COLD TEMPERATURES. SUDDEN FOGGING OF THE WINDSHIELD DECREASES VISIBILITY TO NEAR ZERO AND FORCES THE DRIVER TO PULL OVER AND MANUALLY WIPE THE WINDSHIELD. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM TO THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REMEDY. THE AVERAGE COST I HAVE BEEN QUOTED TO FIX HAS BEEN 1485.00. THE ENTIRE DASH, STEERING WHEEL, AIR BAGS ETC. HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE FAULTY MECHANISM. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF ANY OF THESE MAJOR SAFETY COMPONENTS ARE DAMAGED OR REMOVED/REPLACED IMPROPERLY IT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS INJURY TO THE OCCUPANTS. THE COST OF THE DEALER REPAIR WILL LEAD SOME TO HAVE THESE FIXED BY UNQUALIFIED TECHNICIANS AND SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES WILL ARISE FROM FAULTY AIRBAG AND STEERING COMPONENT REPLACEMENT.*AK
FAILURE OF THE "DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL" DAMPENER DOOR. THE DAMPENER DOOR CONTROL FAILED AND I SPENT $700 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED WITH AN UPDATED PART. *TR
BLEND DOORS ON AC SYSTEM BROKE!!!!!!!!! *JB
JEEP HEATING , TOOK VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC, AND HE SAID THAT THE COOLING FAN WAS BROKEN/FROZEN. THE MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON JEEP COOLING FANS FOR MY YEAR OF JEEP. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER PLUS DAIMLER-CHRYSLER, BUT THEY SAID THE RECALL WAS FOR 4.1L ENGINES AND MY ENGINE WAS A 4.7L. OBVIOUSLY, CHRYSSLER/DAIMLER HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE COOLING FANS ON THESE JEEPS, BUT I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY MY JEEP WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MECHANIC HAD THE NHTSA RECALL BULLENTIN. BECAUSE OF THE HEATING PROBLEM, ALONG WITH A SAFETY ISSUE, WE HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE REPAIR WORK DONE, $1206.86. THE PART ALONE WAS OVER $900.00 - THE OLD PART WAS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC BECAUSE THE DRIVER'S SEAT HEATER FAILED. THE ELEMENT PART# 5072486-AB HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE MECHANIC TOOK THE SEAT APART TO PERFORM THE REPAIR IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE FOAM RUBBER CUSHION BURNED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BURN WAS CAUSED BY PART # 5072486-AB. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 95,000.*AK UPDATED 07/03/07. *JB
HAVE HAD DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATORS REPLACED: PAID $400 AT JEEP DEALER AND SECOND WINDOW $345. THE PASSENGER SIDE IS RARELY USED; WE FEEL THESE REGULATORS ARE DEFECTIVE. *TR
THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON AND DEPENDING ON THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATE THE VEHICLE WILL EITHER OVERHEAT, HAVE NO HEAT OR PROVIDE A/C COOLING ONLY WHILE DRIVING AND NOT WHILE SITTING IDLE. I'VE HAD REPAIRS AND COOLANT FLUSHES. THE REPAIRS LAST ONE WEEK AND THEN THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN AND THE ISSUES START ALL OVER AGAIN. *TR

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH 73000 FAILURE MILEAGE AT ANY RATE OF SPEED AND THEN APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY, AND WAS GETTING WORSE, BUT THE VEHICLE STOPPED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVEN TIMES FOR REPAIRS. THE MOST RECENT TIME THEY CHANGED THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. *AK UPDATED 03/19/07. *JB
THE HVAC SYSTEM IN MY 2001 GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP HAS GONE OUT ON BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. I FEEL THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ITEMS FROM CHRYSLER CORP. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS MID-CASE BLEND ASSEMBLY FOR QUITE SOME TIME. NOW IT IS GOING TO COST OVER A $1000.00 TO REPLACE. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED FOR RECALL BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY HAZARD OF DRIVING. THE AFTERNOON IT WENT OUT, I WAS LEAVING FROM WORK AND A BLINDING SNOW-BLIZZARD CAME, THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED AND I RAN OFF THE ROAD, DUE TO THE MY WINDOWS ICING UP AND FOGGING UP...I HAD NO WAY TO DEFROST THEM. I HAD TO DRIVE A CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE TO GET HOME. I PUT MY VEHICLE IN 4-WHEEL LOW AND MANAGED TO GET OUT OF THE DITCH, BUT I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY AND VERY COLD WHEN I DID REACH MY HOME. *JB
I HAVE OWNED FIVE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. 1999 - 2002. EVERYONE OF THEM HAS HAD HEATING COOLING BLENDER DOOR FAILURES. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN IMPROPER DESIGN FOR THIS COMPONENT. THE ENTIRE DASH HAS TO BE REMOVED TO REPAIR IT AT A GREAT EXPENSE. ONE VEHICLE I HAD TO HAVE DONE TWICE IN ABOUT 4 MONTHS TIME FRAME. *NM
AS HAS BEEN PUBLISHED IN TWO OTHER POSTINGS I SEE, MY LEFT TAIL LIGHT WOULD WORK WELL, UNTIL I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, THEN IT WOULD GO OUT. I HAD THE BULB REPLACED 2 OR 3 TIMES, THEN TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER TODAY. $190 LATER, IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE REPAIRED. WE'LL SEE...*JB
HEATER ON MY 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS GONE OUT. APPARENTLY IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND EXPENSIVE TO HAVE REPAIR. THE MOTORS THAT CONTROL THE DOORS STRIP OUT & WILL NOT MOVE. I HAVE HEARD IT IS AROUND 1500 DOLLARS TO HAVE REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP. I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. *JB

A FAULTY BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR HAS RENDERED MY HEATER FROM WORKING. THE TEMP IS AROUND 20 DEGREES AND WITHOUT THE BLOWER, I CANNOT DEFROST MY WINDOWS TO DRIVE SAFELY. THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IS OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITH VISUAL ELECTRICAL CHARRING. THE WIRING HARNESS IS ALSO MELTED. I'VE TALKED TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND THEIR PARTS DEPARTMENT HAS DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. SO, I CONTACTED THE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE 800 NUMBER. BUT ACCORDING TO YOUR "CUSTOMER SERVICE" LINE, I NEED TO GET MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER SO THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY KNOW. MY QUESTION IS WHY THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IS BACK ORDERED 4,000-6,000 PARTS? AND WHY IF I TAKE MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, WILL I BE EXPEDITED A PART. ARE THEY CREATING A DEMAND BY NOT SUPPLYING THE PART AND THEN THE DEALERS RAISE THE PRICE OF THE PART? I HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE DEALER SAY THAT IF THEY LOCATE ONE, THAT IT'LL COST MORE THAN THE PRICE ADVERTISED ON THEIR WEB SITE. THIS IS THE WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD. *JB

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4.7L V8. CLIMATE CONTROL DOOR/SYSTEM FAILURE. $1200 TO $1500 TO FIX AT DEALER. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ONLY LAST AROUND 2 YEARS HAVING TO KEEP REPLACING SAME PARTS. EVERY OTHER YEAR. *NM
ENGINE WOULD NOT START -- REPLACED FUEL FILTER WHICH WAS FULL OF ODD DEBRIS [MECHANIC, NON-DEALER, CUT IT OPEN TO INSPECT]. FOUR DAYS LATER SAME PROBLEM. DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS THAT THE GAS TANK LINING CAN DETERIOATESAND LEAVE DEBRIS IN TANK WHICH PASSES TO FILTER THEN BEYOND. CAR IS NOW AT DEALER AWAITING DIAGNOSIS. DEALER REP SAYS HE IS UNAWARE OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK.
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BROKEN IN 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. INITIALLY THE SEAT STARTED WITH A METALLIC GRINDING SOUND. THEN THERE WAS A SLIGHT SNAP. NOW THE SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH AND SIDE-TO-SIDE. WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM DUE TO THE INABILITY TO FIND REPLACEMENT PARTS. THE DEALER FIX IS ENTIRELY TOO COSTLY. *TR
MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BROKE AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP I HAVE NOTICED THIS IS A VERY COMMON THING. I NOW HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD IN A CROOKED SEAT AND THE SAFETY BELT DOESN'T LAY RIGHT SINCE IT IS CROOKED. I THINK THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
FROM DAY OF PURCHASE, HEARD LOUD CREAKING UNDER THE DASH. ASSUMED VENTS WERE OPENING/CLOSING. EVENTUALLY COLD AIR BEGAN TO BLOW FROM THE RIGHT VENTS. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR PROBABLY NEEDED REPLACING AT A COST OF $1500. THEY SAID BRING IT ON, WE HAVE TWO HERE NOW WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *NM
TL* - THE HEATER AND A/C ARE NOT WORKING IN THE CONTACT'S 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER ( ALL STAR DODGE IN AMARILLO, TX) TO SET UP APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S FAILURE IS DUE TO THE WIRING HARNESS MELTING WHICH CREATED A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE RESONATOR. DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS AND RESONATOR. THE DEALER CALLED THE PARTS WAREHOUSE IN DALLAS, TX AND THEY STATED THAT THERE IS A BACK ORDER FOR THE PART THAT CAN TAKE A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THEY GET THE PART. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY CATCH ON FIRE DUE TO THE FAILURE. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE HEATED SEATS BECOME EXTREMELY HOT AND THE HEATING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON. THE HEATED SEAT SYSTEM WAS A SAFETY DEFECT. *AK UPDATED 03/07/07*JB
LFT REAR DOR BY ANOTHER DRIVER IN PKG LOT. *JB
I AM GOING TO PASTE BELOW WHAT I WROTE ON UNSAFECARSEATS.COM. I AM DUMBFOUNDED THAT I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 5 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST I'VE HEARD ABOUT THIS. WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE GEN3 SEAT BELT PROBLEM WITH MY INFANT SEATS I THOUGHT, THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT, IF THERE WERE AN ISSUE WITH THESE SEAT BELTS THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE NHTSA. IT IS A REAL PROBLEM: I HAVE 6 MO OLD TWINS AND A 4 YO SON. THEY ARE 3 ACROSS IN THE BACKSEAT OF MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE BELTS HOLDING THE INFANT SEATS HAVE BECOME UNDONE AFTER MAKING SURE REPEATEDLY THAT THEY WERE BUCKLED AND TAUT. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A REAL PROBLEM! I EVEN WENT SO FAR AS GRILLING MY 4 YO IF HE UNDID THE BUCKLES IN 'FUN'. HE REPEATEDLY DENIED IT. THE BELT LOCK IS INCREDIBLY SENSITIVE AND DEFECTIVE. PUT IN PERSPECTIVE, IF A BASE MOVING AGAINST ANOTHER OR PUTTING THE BUCKET IN OR OUT OF THE BASE CAUSES A MALFUNCTION, WELL THEN IT DOES NOT TAKE A DEGREE IN PHYSICS TO KNOW THAT A COLLISION WOULD DO THE SAME THING. THE WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER-DEFROSTER AND CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM ARE FAULTY . HE ELECTRONIC HEAT CONTROLLER HAS BEEN REPLACED IN THE 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED ON 2 PREVIOUS OCCASIONS AND THE FAULT STILL OCCURS. THE FLOW DOORS OF THE HEATING SYSTEM ARE STICKING OPEN AND PREVENTING WARM AIR FROM ENTERING THE DEFROSTER DUCTS OR THE CABIN HEATING DUCTS. THE VEHICLE OFTEN FROSTS OVER THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOWS WHILE DRIVING AND CAN NOT BE SAFELY CLEARED. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS TWICE WHILE UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY AND ONCE AFTER IT EXPIRED. THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS OVER $1,000. A MANUFACTURERS SAFETY RECALL IS IN ORDER TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT. *TR
WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER FAILURE. *JB
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. NO HEAT ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE IN THE WINTER, AC DOESN'T WORK CORRECTLY ACCORDING TO THE DIAL SETTINGS. DEFROST AND DEFOGGER DOESN'T WORK AS SHOULD. HAVE TO HAVE THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW OPEN SOME TO BE ABLE TO SEE AND KEEP THE WINDSHIELD CLEAR. WINDSHIELD FOGGED UP TOO QUICKLY ONCE LAST WINTER AND I PUT THE VEHICLE IN A DITCH AT 5AM IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER. GOT A SMALL CUT OVER THE RIGHT EYE. MY UNDERSTANDING I WILL HAVE TO GET THE AC/HEAT BLEND DOORS AND ACTUATORS REPLACED IN THE UNIT WHICH REQUIRES THE DASH TO BE REMOVED AND COST IS OVER 1000 US DOLLARS. THE PARTS ARE INFERIOR AND MADE OF PLASTIC AND AS I CAN SEE BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET THERE ARE MANY, MANY FAILURES. I HAVE NOT HAD THE REPAIR DONE BECAUSE IT'S JUST TOO EXPENSIVE. *TR

ON 2001 I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED FROM A JEEP DEALER, LITTLE AFTER I BOUGHT IT I NOTICED A VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, BUT I DID NOT THINK THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG, BRAND NEW AND MY FIRST 4X4 I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WAY 4X4 WORKS. UNTIL ABOUT A YEAR AGO THAT I RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT A DEMAND MADE TO CHRYSLER FROM SOME OTHER OWNERS OF GRAND CHEROKEES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND WHEN THEY WENT TO HAVE IT CHECK AT THE DEALER THEY WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH AN UNEVEN SURFACE OF THE BRAKE ROTORS. CHRYSLER NEVER TOOK ANY ACTION ABOUT THIS FACTORY DEFECT AND DENIED REPAIR OF DEFECT. AFTER I RECEIVED THIS LETTER I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECK AND I WAS TOLD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT DISK ROTORS WAS CAUSING THE VIBRATION ON MY CAR. I CONTACTED DAIMLERCHRYSLER BY MAIL ON OCTOBER 2006, ASKING THEM TO REPAIR THE FACTORY DEFECT AND THEY NEVER ANSWER BACK, THEN I CALLED THEM BY PHONE TO THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS CENTER AT 1-800-992-1997 AND ASKED FOR AN ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM BUT THEY DENIED PAYING FOR ANY REPAIR SINCE I WAS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND I ASKED FOR A WRITTEN DECISION BUT IT WAS ALSO DENIED AND ONLY GIVEN A REFERENCE NUMBER 15833938 FOR MY INQUIRE ON 1-3-2007. AS I SAID EARLIER IN THIS LETTER, I WAS UNAWARE OF ANY REAL BRAKE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE UNTIL I WAS CONTACTED BY A LETTER FROM A THIRD PARTY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DATED JUNE 1, 2006. DAIMLERCHRYSLER NEVER CONTACTED ME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OR DID ANY RECALL ON THIS AND THAT IS WHY I WAS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. BLEND DOOR FAILURE ON DUAL ZONE CLIMATE CONTROLLED 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THIS WAS REPAIRED BY A DEALER AT A COST OF $1000 DOLLARS, AND HAS FAILED AGAIN 2 MONTHS LATER. *NM
2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO -- EVERY WINDOW REGULATOR HAS BROKEN AT LEAST ONCE. DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. WINDOWS FALL DOWN WHEN REGULATOR FAILS, WHICH IS POTENTIAL BROKEN GLASS HAZARD, ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC (WHICH IS WHY HE REFUSED TO PERMANENTLY WIRE THE WINDOW UP FOR ME). I TOOK OFF THE BACK DOOR PANELS AND WIRED THE WINDOWS UP WITH STEEL WIRE MYSELF TO PREVENT THEM FROM FALLING (AND SAVING ME $800, OR $400 PER WINDOW). BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A TERRIBLE DESIGN, AND NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF AUTO MAINTENANCE DOLLARS TO GET THEIR WINDOWS TO ROLL UP! *TR
RESEARCH HAS SHOWN ALL 1999-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES WITH ELECTRONIC DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLS WILL EVENTUALLY REQUIRE MAJOR REPAIR IN ORDER TO CURE HOT AIR/COLD AIR BLOWING FROM VENTS WHEN THEY'RE NOT SET TO DO SO. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO POP UP AGAIN AFTER ANOTHER 50K MILES AFTER REPAIR, IS GENERALLY $800-$1500 FROM A DEALERSHIP. SHOULD YOU OPT TO DO THIS REPAIR YOURSELF, THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED, QUITE THE ARDUOUS PROCESS, AND PARTS ARE APPROXIMATELY >$300. *TR
STEERING WHEEL RUBS AND SHAKES WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. LOUD RUBBING SOUND LIKE DRAGGING YOUR FINGER OVER A BALLOON. CAUSES DIFFICULTY STEERING AND IS DANGEROUS IN PARKING LOTS. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND DAILY OCCURRENCE WITH THE VEHICLE. I'VE OWNED TWO OTHER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES - A 1999 MODEL AND A 2000 MODEL IN ADDITION TO THE 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE I'M HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH. THEY ALL HAD THIS ISSUE. *NM
