HEATER BLEND DOOR MALFUNCTION - DUE TO WEAR ON PLASTIC PINS DODGE GARAGE SAID THAT IT CAUSED THE BLOWER MOTOR TO OVERHEAT AND MELTED THE WIRES GOING TO THE BLOWER MOTOR. REPAIRS WILL COST AROUND 1200 DOLLARS AT THE DODGE GARAGE. *TR
VENTILATION SYSTEM BLEND DOORS HAVE BROKEN, NO CONTROL OF AIRFLOW TO THE DEFROSTER. SAFETY ISSUE, CAN'T DEFROST WINDSHIELD. *TR
MY JEEP 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY WILL PRODUCE NO HEAT, THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THE WINDOWS WILL NOT DEFOG AND CAN CREATE SERIOUS VISIBILITY PROBLEMS. THE HEATING SYSTEM WILL ONLY BLOW COLD AIR, WHICH CAN SUDDENLY CREATE CONDENSATION ON THE WINDOW AND ENTIRELY OBSCURE VISIBILITY. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, IT JUST STOPPED WORKING. UPON A SHORT BIT OF RESEARCH, IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S FROM 2000-2004 AND JEEP WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT AS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT EVEN THOUGH THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS ARE HAVING THIS SAME SAFETY PROBLEM HAPPEN TO THEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE VENT VALVE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE VENT VALVE AND THERE WERE NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V348000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: EXHAUST SYSTEM: EMISSION CONTROL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,870 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,100.
I HAVE OWNED MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR 2 YEARS NOW. OVERALL I HAVE LOVED THE CAR BUT TWO WEEKS AGO ON THE WAY HOME THE DRIVER'S WINDOW JUST DROPPED INTO THE DOOR. THINKING THAT WAS ODD AND A RARITY WE CONTINUED HOME. LATER THAT EVENING THE LEFT PASSENGER WINDOW DID THE EXACT SAME THING. I DECIDED THAT THIS WASN'T A RARITY BUT SOME SORT OF DEFECT AND TURNED TO THE INTERNET TO FIND OUT WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM. TO MY DISMAY I FIND THAT THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE RUN INTO THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF A PISS POOR DESIGN THAT JEEP DOESN'T WANT TO FIX. EVEN MORE TO MY DISMAY I FIND THAT NOT ONLY DOES JEEP NOT WANT TO FIX THE ISSUE THAT WANT TO CHARGE $450 PER WINDOW TO FIX IT. *JB
REAR WINDOW ON 2002 JEEP CHEROKEE DROPPED. BROKEN WINDOW REGULATOR. A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET DISCLOSED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM/DEFECT WITH JEEP CHEROKEES. *TR
WHEN I TRIED TO START MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG AND THE SMELL OF SOMETHING THAT HAD BURNED. THE NEXT DAY I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BLEW OFF AND THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER A MONTH AND I WAS TOLD IT WILL BE ANOTHER MONTH BEFORE PARTS WILL BE RECEIVED. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAD NEVER SEEN AN INCIDENT OF THE TYPE I EXPERIENCED. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER THREE TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD ON EACH OCCASION THAT THEY WILL NOT FINANCIALLY PARTICIPATE IN THE REPAIR. *TR
CREAKING, SHATTERING NOISES COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASH. COLD AIR COMING OUT OF VENTS, WHEN IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS THE BLEND DOORS THAT ARE FAILING. *JB
HEATER QUIT WORKING ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR, WILL NOT DEFROST WINDSHIELD ALWAYS FOGS AND FROSTS ON INTERIOR, MUST STOP ON HWYS TO AVOID CRASHES WITH OTHER CARS. *TR
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BLOWING COLD AIR. I HAD THIS LOOKED BY THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE HVAC SUB ASSEMBLIES. THEY QUOTED ME $1000 TO HAVE THIS FIXED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2002 (PLUS OTHER MODEL YEARS) JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. *JB
HEAT NOT WORKING ON DRIVER'S SIDE OF CAR. BLOWER WORKS SPORADICALLY AND WHEN IT DOES WORK, COLD AIR COMING OUT OF DRIVER AND CENTER BLOWERS. HEAT DOES COME OUT PASSENGER SIDE. WITHOUT DEFROST CANNOT DRIVE VEHICLE IN THE COLD. HAD TO BRING IN FOR SERVICE, JUST GOT $900 ESTIMATE TO REPLACE BLEND DOOR AND ACTUATOR. HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY THIS DUE TO THE CLIMATE I LIVE IN. THIS 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS 71,00 MILES ON IT. *TR
THE HEATER DOES NOT WORK ON MY JEEP, IT BLOWS COLD AIR. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND IT WILL COST ME ANYWHERE FROM $1,600 TO $1,800 TO REPAIR THE BLEND DOORS. I SEE ON MANY WEB SITES THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM. WHY HAS JEEP NOT STOOD UP AND TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAULTY EQUIPMENT? I AM A 20 YEAR OLD AND I DO NOT HAVE THE INCOME FOR THE PAYMENT , INSURANCE AND THE COSTLY REPAIR. *TR
AIR BLEND DOORS LOCATED DEEP INSIDE DASHBOARD HAVE FAILED ON MY CAR & THOUSANDS OF OTHERS. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT TO TYPICALLY FREEZE DURING WINTER MONTHS. EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN ADMITTED MANUFACTURING DEFECT, CHRYSLER WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT DEEMED ENOUGH OF A SAFETY ISSUE. SINCE REPAIRS ARE $1K OR MORE, MANY PEOPLE ARE PUTTING OFF SERVICE OR TRYING HOMEMADE REMEDIES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THUS GOING WITHOUT THE REPAIR OR TRYING TO DO IT YOURSELF YOU MAKE THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT VERY UNSAFE. CHRYSLER IS MAKING A HUGE PROFIT OFF THIS REPAIR AND THEIR SERVICE CENTERS ADMIT THIS. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND 5 DAYS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR WHILE MY PREGNANT WIFE WAS DRIVING. HAD SHE BEEN DRIVING A LONG DISTANCE IN THE WINTER THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. I KNOW THAT MIGHT SOUND LIKE A LONG SHOT BUT IT COULD HAPPEN. *TR
THE HEATER IN THE GRAND CHEROKEE I OWN DOESN'T WORK AND WILL NOT DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING DISCOMFORT AND A SAFETY VISIBILITY ISSUE. *TR
BLOWER MOTOR/ VISIBILITY WINDSHELID. *TR
NO HEAT FROM THE PASSENGERS SIDE OF DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEMS WELL AS ODD ODOR. WOULD NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD OF CONDENSATION. JEEP DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE CONTROL UNIT ($500 PLUS LABOR) TURNS OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE BLEND DOOR WAS BROKEN AND THE HEATER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE WHOLE DASH HAD TO BE REMOVED, A $1200 - $2100 DEALER JOB. I HAD THE SYSTEM REPAIRED FOR ABOUT $850 AT A PRIVATE REPAIR FACILITY. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO A VEHICLE WITH UNDER 70,000 MILE ON IT. *JB
THE CLOCKSPRING ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS FAILED AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND IT WILL NOT FUNCTION. NO ACCIDENT YET, BUT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT WORK ON THE VEHICLE. CAR WAS DRIVEN NORMALLY AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO ACCIDENTS. HAS 69,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CLOCKSPRING HAS TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. CHRYSLER HAS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON OTHER VEHICLES FOR THIS SAME PART. I'M SURE THEY USE THIS PART ON OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCTS. *TR
WINDOW REGULATOR IN PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WENT OUT. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. IT IS A 2002. THE FIRST WAS ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED WITH THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. THESE HAVE EACH COST ME 300 DOLLARS. THE PART IS FAULTY AND JEEP OWNERS SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR HAVING TO PAY FOR POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP ON THE PART OF JEEP.
IN THE FALL OF 2007, THE HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STOPPED WORKING. I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND THIS PROBLEM WAS SO COMMON THAT I EASILY FOUND PLENTY OF PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT WERE ABLE TO SELF-DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM USING THE JEEPS INTERNAL COMPUTER TO OUTPUT THE SYSTEM FAULTS. USING THE SAME METHOD TO ENTER THE AZC SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODE, THE CLIMATE CONTROL DISPLAY OUTPUT THE SYSTEM FAULT CODES 52-54-56. SINCE MOST OF THE CONSUMERS I'VE RUN INTO WITH THIS PROBLEM GET THAT EXACT CODE, OR HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM DIAGNOSED BY A JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I ALREADY KNOW THAT IT WILL COST ANYWHERE FROM $1000+ TO BE REPAIRED, THE MAJORITY OF IT BEING LABOR AS THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REMOVED. TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM, DAIMLER-CHRYSLER RELEASED TSB 2400104 - NEW HVAC SUB-ASSEMBLY REPLACES BLEND OR RECIRC DOOR COMPONENTS. EACH NEW SUB-ASSEMBLY CONSISTS OF SEVERAL INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS. THE NEW SUB-ASSEMBLIES IMPROVE COMPONENT RELIABILITY. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE RESPECTIVE SUB-ASSEMBLY BE INSTALLED IF A BLEND AIR DOOR(S), A RECIRCULATION DOOR, A DOOR LINK, OR A SUB-ASSEMBLY HOUSING REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. THESE NEW PARTS COST LESS THAN $200 ACCORDING TO THE BULLETIN, BUT I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT DAIMLER-CHRYSLER EXPECTS THEIR CUSTOMERS TO PICK UP THE TAB ON A DESIGN FLAW. ESPECIALLY A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS SO LABOR INTENSIVE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS ARE LESS THAN $200, THE FINAL BILL WILL BE MORE THAN $1,000. A JOB SO CONSUMING THAT IT WOULDN'T BE WISE TO HAVE IT SERVICED BY ANYTHING BUT A JEEP SERVICE TECHNICIAN. NOT TO MENTION SOME REPAIR SHOPS WONT EVEN TAKE ON THE JOB DUE TO THE TIME AND POSSIBLE ACCOUNTABILITY OF SUCH A PROJECT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE; NOT ONLY BECAUSE YOU LOSE THE ABILITY TO DEFROST BUT OF THE EFFECTS EXTREME COLD CAN HAVE ON A BODY TOO. THE NHTSB NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS WITH DAIMLER CHRYLSER. *TR
MY RADIATOR FAN BROKE OFF THE MOTOR ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 2007 AND I HAD IT TOWED TO TIRE KINGDOM SINCE THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED. SO I CALLED GREENWAY CHRYSLER JEEPDODGE IN ORLANDO, FL ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2007 TO COMPARE PARTS PRICES FOR THE SHROWD ASSEMBLY AND RADIATOR FAN. THE DEALERSHIP PROCESS WERE MUCH LOWER SO I WAS GOING TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED THERE TO FIX BUT TIRE KINGDOM MATCHED THEIR PRICE. THE DEALERSHIP ASKED FOR MY MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND VIN # TO ACCURATELY FIND THE PRICES. THE FOLLOWING DAY I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FOR THE EXACT PARTS I HAD FIXED AND PAID 839.00 FOR. I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET THAT I HAD SPECIFICALLY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FOR PRICES FOR THOSE EXACT PARTS AND WAS NOT TOLD THAT IT WAS A RECALLED PART. I HAVE SINCE SUBMITTED MY BILL FOR REIMBURSEMENT BUT I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THE JEEP DEALERSHIP GAVE ME. *TR
IN APRIL 2007 THE PASSENGER POWER WINDOW OF MY 2002 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED STOPPED WORKING, NOW 5 MONTHS LATER MY DRIVERS POWER WINDOW HAS DONE THE SAME THING. 2ND WINDOW REGULATOR ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITHIN 3 MOS THAT HAS STOPPED WORKING. AFTER CALLING SEVERAL LOCAL PARTS STORES IN THE AREA, I WAS TOLD BY MOST OF THEM THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP. I ALSO LEARNED THAT THE PART CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED BY JEEP DIRECTLY. I CALLED JEEP TO FIND OUT IF THE PART HAS BEEN RECALLED, NONE AVAILABLE. THIS PART ALONE IS $300, WITH LABOR THE REPAIR IS $459. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 66,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR THE COOLING FAN. CUSTOMER STATED THAT THE FAN BLEW WHILE ON VACATION AND WHEN THE FAN BLEW IT ALSO BROKE THE RADIATOR AND THE SHROUD. HE SAYS THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE THE DEALER SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED HE WANTS TO BE REIMBURSED FOR UNEXPECTED EXPENSES DUE TO THE RECALL NOT BEING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 15-25 MPH. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONTACT ORDERED ALL THE PARTS HIMSELF AND HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM OF NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN), HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000.
FIVE (5) OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURES/REPLACEMENTS BETWEEN 24,000 AND 41,000 MILES - AT 24, 25, 39, 39, 41 THOUSAND MILES. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT CANNOT FIND CAUSE. MANUFACTURER REFERS ME BACK TO DEALER. LAST FAILED O2 SENSOR IS AVAILABLE. *JB

AFTER THE RECALL WAS REPAIRED, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BEGAN TO INCREASE TOWARDS THE HOT LEVEL. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR BECAUSE THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAT WOULD NOT WORK AND THE CHECK GAUGE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE PLACED ANITFREEZE INTO THE RADIATOR AND THE FAILURE TEMPORARILY STOPPED. THE RADIATOR HAD TO BE REFILLED WITH ANTIFREEZE EVERY FOUR DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE PART THAT THE HOSE CONNECTED TO FAILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000. UPDATED 01/09/08.*LJ THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE HEAT ON BECAUSE ANTI-FREEZE WOULD LEAK.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE GUNSHOTS. HE LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE NOISE CAME FROM HIS OWN VEHICLE. HE NOTICED THAT THE NEEDLE ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS INCREASING. HE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND IT BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT LIFTED THE HOOD AND REMOVED THE RADIATOR CAP. AS A RESULT, SCALDING HOT WATER POURED OUT AND CUT HIS LEFT EYE AND BURNED HIS RIGHT HAND. A GENTLEMAN WHO WAS PRESENT AT THE SCENE PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH WATER. HE USED THE WATER TO NURSE HIS WOUNDS. A NEARBY MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAN BLADE SHATTERED INTO SEVERAL PIECES ALONG WITH THE GUARD ABOVE THE FAN (SHROUD). THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL CHRYSLER. THE CONTACT CALLED STEVENS CHRYSLER MOTORS AND WAS HUNG UP ON TWICE BY THE SAME PERSON. HIS VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PARK MOTORS AND THEY REIMBURSED HIM FOR $900 WORTH OF REPAIRS. THE CONTACT PLANS TO NOTIFY HIS ATTORNEY'S GENERAL OFFICE AND THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU IN REGARDS TO THE POOR SERVICE FROM STEVENS CHRYSLER MOTORS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO REGARDING THE FAN. THE CONTACT HAS RECEIPTS AND PAPERWORK CONCERNING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND PARKING LIGHTS FAILED. THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL DEFECT. TURN SIGNAL FAILURE ON MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE TURN SIGNALS FAILED ON MY JEEP ON JULY 15, 2007 DUE TO A FAULTY FLASHER ON MY CAR. THE CAR HAD 68,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE PART THAT FAILED IS PART NUMBER 4686094 AND IT IS FAILING ALL OVER CHRYSLER'S VEHICLES WHEN YOU SEARCH THE INTERNET. AS THE TURN SIGNALS ARE A SAFETY FEATURE ON THE CAR AND MANDATORY TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE THIS ITEM SHOULD BE RECALLED. ONCE THE PART WAS REPLACED, MY TURN SIGNALS WORKED FINE. THE REPAIR WAS $55.47 IN PARTS. THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND NO ACCIDENTS. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 2 YEARS AGO, AND 6 MONTHS AGO, THE PASSENGER SIDE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR DIED AS WELL AS BROKE THE BLEND DOOR ITSELF UPON INSPECTION. THIS IS A PROBLEM AS IT TAKES REMOVAL OF THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD, DRAINING AND REFILLING THE AC SYSTEM AND DRAINING AND REFILLING THE ANTIFREEZE. I SPENT GREATER THAN 10 HOURS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE # 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN). ON JULY 11, 2007, THE ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN BLADE FRACTURED AND SEPARATED ON HIS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE DAMAGED THE RADIATOR, CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT, AND CAUSED THE HEAD GASKET AND HEADERS TO FAIL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR THE FAN BLADE UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THE CONTACT BELIEVES THIS LED TO THE OTHER FAILURES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 121,000.
