THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE WARPED FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 42,000 MILES. DRIVING WITH THESE WARPED ROTORS CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND BRAKE APPLICATION AT THE WHEELS TO BE UNEVEN. THE SHAKING IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN BRAKING FROM SPEEDS ABOVE 40 MPH. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION ESPECIALLY ON WET OR ICY SURFACES. THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY. *JB

HEATER BLEND DOOR FAILURE, HEATER CONSTANTLY BLOWS COOL AIR, VEHICLE ONLY HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT DEALER ESTIMATE TO FIX $1200-$1500 DOLLARS. *JB
THE A/C IN MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT DOESN'T COOL DOWN, ONE SIDE BLOWS COOL, THE OTHER HOT, THERE IS A FAN NOISE AND THERE IS COLD "CONDENSATION" SMOKE (?) THAT BLOWS OUT AT TIMES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE BLEND DOOR MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED A PARTS PRICE OF $94.00 AND APPROXIMATELY 5.2 HOURS WORTH OF LABOR. *JB

MY BLEND DOORS ARE BROKEN. I RECEIVE NO HEAT FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. I HAVE SEARCHED EVERY JEEP FORUM I CAN FIND AND HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE, NOT DUE TO USAGE BUT POOR PLANNING ON THE MANUFACTURERS PART BY USING POOR CONSTRUCTION. *JB
ABOUT 3 MONTHS AG, THE BLOWER STARTED BLOWING OUT COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. JUST FIGURED OUT WHAT WAS WRONG AND GOING TO TRY AND FIND THE PART AND FIX IT.*AK
1) WE WERE GOING ON A ROAD TRIP TO NE TENNESSEE WHEN THE WINDSHILED DEFROST FAILED. 2) THERE IS NO HOT AIR COMING OUT TO PROPERLY DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD WHICH AFFECTED OUR VISIBILITY IN THE MOUNTAINS. 3) TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET AN ESTIMATE AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST ~$900. I OPTED NOT TO GET IT DONE SINCE IT WAS SO MUCH. I WAS CHARGED $110 FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *NM

ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH ONLY 55,000 MILES, THE DEFROST / HEATER DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. FROM MY LIMITED RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THE BLEND DOOR FOR THE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL IS AN ISSUE FOR MANY JEEP OWNERS. NOTE: DOES TSB 2041004 APPLY TO THIS ISSUE? *NM
THE HEAT IN MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (72,500 MILES) STOPPED DISTRIBUTING HEAT. FIRST THE HEAT STOPPED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE HEAT FAILED EVERYWHERE. I HAD TO GET THE BLENDER DOORS, ACTUATOR, HEATER CORE AND EVAPORATOR REPLACED. THE COST OF THE REPAIR AT A JEEP DEALERSHIP COST NEARLY $1,500. I'VE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL JEEP. *NM
NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE IN JANUARY 2007, SEPTEMBER 2007 NO AIR BOTH SIDES, THEN NOVEMBER 2007 NO HEAT AT ALL FROM BOTH SIDES. THE JEEP HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALER ALL YEAR WITH MANY ISSUES, AS EMPLOYEE OF CHRYSLER , I LOVE MY JEEP THAT I PURCHASED NEW, JUST NOT HAPPY WITH THE REPAIR WORK NEEDED ALL THE TIME . *TR
ON JANUARY 3, 2007, MINUTES AFTER TURNING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HEATED SEAT, IT GOT EXTREMELY HOT AND WAS UNABLE TO BE SAT ON, IT PRODUCED SMOKE, AND A BURNING SMELL WAS OBSERVED. I BELIEVE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE HAD IT NOT BEEN TURNED OFF QUICKLY. MY SON WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND HE RAISED HIS BUTT FROM THE SEAT SCREAMING ABOUT THE HEAT. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE HEATER OFF, PULLED OVER, HE JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE, AND WE WAITED FOR SOME TIME FOR THE SEAT TO COOL DOWN BEFORE PROCEEDING ONWARD TO SCHOOL. I AM AFRAID TO ALLOW ANYONE TO SIT IN THAT SEAT UNTIL IT IS PROPERLY REPAIRED. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND THE REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN WHEN UNLOCKED. BOTH DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD AND AN INCONVENIENCE TO NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT. I HAVE TO HAVE CHILD PASSENGERS CLIMB OVER THE FRONT SEAT. 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD WITH DUAL ZONE CILMATE CONTROL SYSTEM. AT 50,000 MILES THE PASSENGER SIDE HEAT AND DEFROSTER STOPPED WORKING. NOW IN AT 60,000 MILES THE DRIVER SIDE HEATER HAS ALSO FAILED. PER A WEB SITE IT IS A VERY COMMON OCCURANCE WITH THIS VEHICAL. IT APPEARS CHYRSLER IS NOT TAKING ANY ACTION TO RECALL THIS SAFTEY ISSUE.
I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. LATE WINTER, WHEN I NEEDED IT THE MOST, MY HEAT BEGAN NOT WORKING ONLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD PLENTY OF HEAT THOUGH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND AFTER A $1100 REPAIR BILL TO REPAIR THE BLEND DOORS INSIDE THE AC SYSTEM (MOSTLY LABOR), IT WAS REPAIRED. TODAY, AGAIN, I HAVE NO HEAT AND NOW NO AC TOO. A DIAGNOSIS NOW SAYS THAT I HAVE A CODE FOR "TRAVEL TOO LARGE"-THIS IS THE CODE FOR THE BLEND DOORS AGAIN. AFTER AN INTERNET SEARCH, I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY, MANY OTHERS LIKE ME WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS IN THE WINTER, THERE IS NO WAY TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD WITH THE COLD AIR. DAILMER CHRYSLER NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING HERE AND STOP PROFITING FROM THEIR OWN DEFECTS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL TO REPAIR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR
THE WHEELS ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 17" CHROME PLATED ALUMINUM. OEM WHEELS ARE CORRODING. THIS CORROSION IS SEEN ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE WHEEL AND WHEN I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEM HOLDING AIR I TOOK IT TO SEARS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. WHEN THE TIRE WAS REMOVED FROM THE WHEEL ITSELF, THE TECH CALLED ME OVER AND SHOWED ME THAT THE WHEEL IS CORRODING ALONG THE ENTIRE SURFACE WHERE IT MEETS WITH THE TIRE. IT APPEARS THAT THE CHROME PLATING WAS AND HAD PEELED OFF ALLOWING THE CORROSION TO START AND THE AIR TO LEAK. HE ALSO POINTED OUT THE CORROSION ON THE HUB OF THE WHEEL WHERE IT MEETS THE AXLE AND IT APPEARS THAT SOME OF THE THICKNESS AT THE HUB HAS CORRODED AWAY. THERE WAS ALSO CORROSION ON THE INSIDE ON THE WHEEL, WHICH MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO ME, AS IT IS NOT EXPOSED TO AIR OR WATER. HE ALSO STATED THAT IF ITS LIKE THIS ON ONE ITS LIKE THAT ON ALL. THE TECH AND HIS MANAGER ADVISED ME THAT AT ANY TIME THIS WHEEL COULD JUST CRACK OFF BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR OFFICE. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH THESE CHROME PLATED ALUMINUM WHEELS. ALTHOUGH I ONLY FOUND A FEW SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGISTERED ON YOUR SITE, I WOULD TEND TO BELIEVE THAT ITS A MUCH LARGER ISSUE THAT SIMPLE HASN'T POPPED ITS UGLY HEAD OUT YET. I HOPE AND TRUST THAT YOUR OFFICE WILL TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND NOT JUST WRITE IT OFF AS A WEAR AND TEAR FAILURE. I HAVE OWED SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES AND I WORK IN THE AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE INDUSTRY AND NEVER HAVE I SEEN OR HEARD OF SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OEM WHEELS CORRODING TO THE POINT WHERE THEY HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF CRACKING OFF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION AND THE ATTENTION OF THE MANUFACTURE. LUCKILY, THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR A DEATH RELATED TO THIS DEFECT AND LETS ALL HOPE THAT NEITHER HAPPENS BEFORE ANYTHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT IT. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOUR OFFICE. *JB
1) RAPID FOGGING OF FRONT WINDSHEILD,(2) FOGGING OF FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS,(3) FAILURE OF PASSENGER HEAT WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DRIVER HEAT FUNCTION, AND (4) ONLY COLD AIR RELEASE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF JEEP. CONSEQUENTLY,(1) THE WINDSHEILD AND FRONT WINDOWS DO NOT DEFOG, AND (2) NO HEAT WHATSOEVER COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AND DASHBOARD VENTILATION SYSTEM. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR. ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITEDS WITH DUEL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS. DEALER SAID NO RECALL DUE TO NO SAFETY CONCERN. ISN'T A WINDOW THAT CAN'T BE DEFROSTED A SAFTY CONCERN? *NM
STARTED THE CAR AND ONE DAY THE HEATER JUST STARTED BLOWING COLD AIR. NEVER MADE ANY NOISE OR ANYTHING BUT SLOWLY THE PASSENGER SIDE STOPPED BLOWING HOT AIR THEN THE DRIVER SIDE AND EVEN THE WINDSHILED. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE BECUASE OF THE COST RANGING FROM 1,000 TO 1,500 DOLLARS. NEW PARTS NEED TO BE MADE FREE OF THIS DEFECT AND MANUFACTURER SHOULD COVER THE COST OF REPAIR TO EVERY OWNER IN WHICH IT OCCURS. *NM

REPLACE SHAFT & DOOR. EXPENSIVE. HEATER CORE HAD TO BE REPLACED - VERY EXPENSIVE. HAD TO GO IN THROUGH THE DASH FOR BOTH REPAIRS. JEEP NOT INTERESTED IN TALKING TO US ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. *NM
A/C SYSTEM BLOWS COLD AIR ONLY DUE TO HIGH FAILURE ITEM KNOWN TO DAIMLER-CHRYSLER. RESULTS IN NO DEFOG DURING COLD WEATHER UNLESS YOU WANT COLD A/C BLOWING DURING THE WINTER WITH SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES. PROBLEM CAN BE ELIMINATED IF YOU BUY A JEEP GRANDE CHEROKEE IN TROPICAL CLIMATES ONLY.

TL*- THE CONTACT IS NOT HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE THAT HE RECEIVED FROM THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION. THE CONTACT HAS RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON HIS 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE NOTICE SAID THAT HE HAD TO CONTACT THE AAA TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE VEHICLE BEING TOWED. THE RECALL IS FOR THE ELECTRICAL RADIATOR FAN. THE DEALERSHIP GAVE TENTATIVE DATE OF 12/19/06 BY 5:00 PM.
FOURTH TIME A WINDOW REGULATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED.
FRONT PASSENGER DEFROSTER HAS FAILED CAUSING THE FRONT WINDOW TO NOT DEFROST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. *JB
I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 51,474 MILES. I PURCHASED THIS AS A USED CAR ON NOV 30, 2006 FROM A REPUTABLE (?) DEALER. TO MY MISTAKE, WE DID NOT CHECK OUT THE HEAT. WE DO LIVE IN SOUTH WEST FLA. UPON NEEDING HEAT TO TAKE THE DEW OFF MY WINDSHIELD I FOUND I HAVE NONE. MY WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOWS DO NOT CLEAR ON MORNINGS THAT HEAT WOULD HELP IN THAT SITUATION. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS YOU WOULD EXPECT. NO HEAT COMES FROM ANYWHERE. THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID IT WAS A "BLEND AIR DOOR" PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER A USED AUTO PURCHASE SINCE WE DECLINED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. (WE TOOK IT BACK ON DEC. 12,2006 TO BE CHECKED OUT AT DEALER) THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A "COMMON PROBLEM THAT COSTS A LOT OF MONEY,USUALLY OVER $1000 TO REPLACE. I THEN ASKED MY OWN MECHANIC HIS OPINION AND HE SAID HE WILL NOT TOUCH THE REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE TIME, LABOR, AND MONEY INVOLVED IN DOING THIS WHEN HE THINKS IT IS A DEALER ISSUE. IF YOU DO AN INTERNET SEARCH FOR BLEND AIR DOOR PROBLEMS YOU WILL FIND THIS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEPS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. ALSO, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE LEVER SNAPPED, AND WENT LOOSE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE, AND WOULD NOT ROLL UP. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE WINDOW REGULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE WINDOW REGULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

POPPING AND CREAKING NOISES BEHIND THE DASH WHEN USING THE HEATING AND COOLING UNIT OF THE 2002 JEEP WITH DUAL CLIMATE. SOMETIMES DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK CORRECTLY. *NM
MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S VENTILATION SYSTEM HAS A FAULT COMPONENT WHICH CAUSES THE VENTS TO BLOW ALL COLD OR ALL HOT AIR. IT CAUSES MY WINDSHIELD TO FOG UP UNCONTROLLABLY. THE REPAIR SHOULD REALLY BE THE PRODUCT OF A FACTORY RECALL, INSTEAD, IT WILL COST ME APPROX $1400 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ON MY OWN. I KNOW THIS IS A MAJOR FAILURE POINT ON THESE VEHICLES FROM 1999-2004. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND I AM WILLING TO FILE A CLASS-ACTION SUIT AGAINST DAIMLER CHRYSLER AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE. *JB

SEARCHING FOR A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM, I COME TO THE CONCLUSION IT MIGHT BE MY BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR THAT HAS BROKEN. I AM UNABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIRS ... ON NOV. 29, 2006, PURCHASED USED 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD. WITH 49,723 MILES FROM CHRYSLER DEALER. ON DEC. 2, 2006, TRIED TO USE PASSENGER HEATING AND COOLING. COULD GET ONLY COLD AIR. MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS A BAD VENTILATION SYSTEM. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH AFFECTS ALL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S MANUFACTURED WITH AUTO CLIMATE CONTROLS FROM 1999-2004. I HAVE HAD TO BRING MINE IN FOR REPAIR TWICE NOW, AND IT HAS ONCE AGAIN FAILED. THE LEVERS IN THE VENTILATION DUCTS HAVE PLASTIC COMPONENTS WHICH, OVER TIME, BREAK DOWN AND CRACK CAUSING COLD-ONLY OR HOT-ONLY AIR TO BLOW FROM THE VENTS. THIS ISSUE CAUSES MAJOR FOGGING OF THE WINDSHIELD AT TIMES DEPENDING UPON HOW THE LEVERS GET STUCK, WHICH IS A SERIOUS AND MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN- I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND WIPE THE WINDSHIELD DOWN SO I CAN SEE. I LEAD A GROUP COMPRISED OF OVER 1000 PEOPLE WHO HAVE FORMED EXPRESSLY AS A RESULT OF THIS MATTER; ALL OF OUR VEHICLES ARE AILING, AND REST ASSURED, THERE ARE THOUSANDS MORE OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM WHO PROBABLY AREN'T EVEN AWARE OUR GROUP UNITED AGAINST DAIMLER CHRYSLER EVEN EXISTS. 2002 JEEP LIMITED. WINTER OF 2007 VENTS ON PASSENGER SIDE ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR. DASHBOARD, WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER AND REAR SEAT VENTS ONLY BLOW COLD AIR. MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE CANNOT DEFROST FRONT WINDOWS DUE TO COLD AIR. DEALER STATES THAT THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING FLOODED WITH 2002 LTD'S THIS YEAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND APPROXIMATELY 50% OF 2002 JEEP LIMITED HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IT IS CAUSED BY BROKEN HINGES ON VENT DOOR UNDER DASHBOARD. COST TO REPAIR IS OVER $1,000. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HIS 2002 JEEP GRANDE CHEROKEE (FAILURE MILEAGE 38500) AT 35 MPH IN THE SNOW AT 18 DEGREES, THE DEFROSTER FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. IT BEGAN TO BLOW COLD AIR AND THEN STOPPED FUNCTIONING . THE WINDOWS STEAMED UP AND VISIBILITY WAS POOR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE BLEND DOORS WERE STICKING, AND NOT OPENING AND CLOSING THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING AN CRASH DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY. *JB
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - BROKEN "HEATER BLEND DOORS". INTERNAL FAILURE RESULTED IN APPROX. $850 REPAIR. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE FOR THIS MODEL JEEP. FOUR DEALERSHIPS TOLD ME THAT THIS "HAPPENS TO ALL 99-04 CHEROKEES" AND THAT JEEP HAS NOT BEEN WILLING TO ISSUE A RECALL. *JB
HEATER NO LONGER WORKING.. DEALER FOUND TO BE "FAULTY BLEND DOOR" AND "RECIR DOOR". THE ISSUE CAUSES WINDOWS TO FOG MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM HAS FAILED PREVENTING WARM AIR FROM CIRCULATING TO THE DEFROST DUCTS MAKING IT UN-SAFE AND IN-OPERABLE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE IN WEATHER THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM. NM
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - CLIMATE CONTROL BLEND DOOR FAILURE. THE PASSENGER SIDE TEMPERATURE BLEND DOOR FAILED AT 53K MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH ALL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A SELF PURCHASED (I.E NON-CHRYSLER) WARRANTY WITH A $250 DEDUCTIBLE. THE WARRANTY COMPANY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE DRIVERS SIDE BEND DOOR, THUS THIS REPAIR WILL MOST LIKELY NEED TO BE PERFORMED AGAIN. *NM
