2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4.0 ELECTRIC RADIATOR COOLING FAN BLADES FRACTURED AND SEPERATED FROM HUB CRACKING RADIATOR SHROUD.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR CONDITIONING FAN FAILED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE AIR CONDITIONING FAN.
1) VEHICLE AT IDLE, AFTER INITIAL STARTUP IN THE MORNING 2) ELECTRIC FAN BROKE INTO PIECES AND HIT THE MAIN FAN, SHATTERING 3) AIRPARK CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER COMPLETED THE REPAIR ON JULY 1, 2006. *JB
I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. IT STARTED TO OVERHEAT, LEAK AND SMOKE, COOLANT FAN BROKE AND TORE RIGHT THROUGH THE COVER. I NOW NEED REPAIRS TOTALING APPROXIMATELY $2600 DUE TO THE COOLANT FAN MALFUNCTIONING. I THOUGHT I COULD GET IT REPAIRED AT THE DEALER FOR NO COST SINCE THERE WAS A COOLANT FAN RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BECAUSE I HAVE THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME SUV THAT I HAVE, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, THEREFORE THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FOR ME. DUE TO THE COOLANT FAN BREAKING, I NEED A NEW CYLINDER HEAD, RADIATOR, COOLING FAN MOTOR AND COOLANT FAN REALIGNMENT. I HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL OF THIS MYSELF JUST BECAUSE THEY DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER IN THE RECALL. *JB
MY WIFE & I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT WE PURCHASED NEW. WE HAD OVERHEATING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO OUR CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP JUNE 23, 2006 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT AMONG OTHER THINGS, THE COOLING FAN WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND LEARNED FROM YOUR WEBSITE THAT ON JUNE 6TH,, 2006 CHRYSLER GROUP ANNOUNCED THAT IT WAS RECALLING OUR JEEPS COOLING FAN FOR POTENTIAL SEPARATION OF THE FAN BLADES (ATTACHMENT). I TOLD OUR REPAIR ADVISOR OF THE ANNOUNCED RECALL AND DESPITE HAVING AN UNRELATED PROBLEM WITH THE FAN I DIDN'T WANT TO PAY TO REPLACE A PART THAT CHRYSLER WAS GOING TO REPLACE PER THE RECALL. HE TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE CHRYSLER HAD NOT COMPLETED THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE RECALL I WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS BUT WOULD BE REIMBURSED WHEN THE RECALL MADE IT THROUGH THE SYSTEM. ON AUGUST 30, CHRYSLER COMPLETED THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE RECALL; I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REIMBURSEMENT AND WAS REACHED BY A CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE BY TELEPHONE. THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO BE REIMBURSED FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THE RECALL NOTIFICATION OCCURRED AUGUST 30 AND I HAD REPLACED THE RECALLED FAN JUNE 22ND FOR AN UNRELATED PROBLEM. I STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED JUNE 6TH; I REPLACED THE FAN AFTER THAT DATE; MY STATEMENT FELL ON DEAF EARS. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER IS FAILING TO LIVE UP TO THE RECALL; CHRYSLER SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE COOLING FAN PLUS LABOR BECAUSE I HAD REPLACED IT AT MY EXPENSE MORE THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER THE RECALL WAS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED. I SHOULD NOT BE CASTIGATED BECAUSE CHRYSLER TOOK GREATER THAN TWO MONTHS TO ADMINISTER THE RECALL. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH WHAT YOU FEEL IS THE PROPER REMEDY. *JB
MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE COOLING FAN BLADES CAME OFF OF THE COOLING FAN AND STRUCK THE SHROUD CAUSING IT TO BREAK APART WHILE I HAD THE HOOD OPEN CHECKING THE ENGINE, LUCKILY I WAS NOT INJURED BY THE FLYING DEBRIS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY. THE CORRECT VIN, # OF CYLINDERS, AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,239.
ELECTRIC FAN BLADE CAME APART AND CUT INTO BOTH THE FAN SHROUD AND RADIATOR. *NM
ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. DEALER, CAR MAX, STATED IT WAS A CHIP WHICH COST $350 TO REPAIR. THEY STATED IT WAS NOT LIFE THREATENING AND WILL NOT REPAIR IT AT THEIR COST. I NEED TO KNOW WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON IF THE ENGINE WAS IN TROUBLE OR NOT, AND I FELT IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT THEIR EXPENSE. *AK
THE SUPPORT FRAME FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES. IT CAUSES THE CAR SEAT TO SHIFT AS THERE ARE ONLY 3 SUPPORT POINTS INSTEAD OF 4. I HAD A MECHANIC ATTEMPT TO FIX IT BUT THAT ONLY LASTED UNTIL 150,000 MILES. A MODERATE TO HIGH IMPACT ACCIDENT MAY CAUSE THE ENTIRE SEAT TO COME LOOSE THEREBY NULLIFYING ANY SAFETY EFFECT A SEAT BELT MAY HAVE TO SAVE MY LIFE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AND FELT A BUMP. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE, BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND A FELLOW MOTORIST LOOKED AND SAW A PIECE OF BLACK PLASTIC IN THE STREET UNDER AND POINTED TO IT. GOT BACK IN THE VEHICLE AND DROVE TO MY DESTINATION AND PARKED, CAME BACK AND CRANKED IT UP AND WAS PULLING OUT, NOTICED WHAT LOOKED LIKE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE TEMP GAUGE NEEDLE WENT INTO THE DANGER ZONE. AFTER NOTICING THIS I STARTED HEADING TO THE DEALERSHIP,BUT STOPPED TO KEEP FROM DURING ANY FURTHER DAMAGE AND CALLED A WRECKER. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE DEALERSHIP I INFORMED THEM WHAT HAPPENED. AFTER THEY EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FAN HAD BROKEN AND KNOCKED A HOLE IN RADIATOR AND BROKE THE FAN SHROUD. *JB
LOUD GROANING FORM POWER STEERING UNDER HOOD. FOUND LEAK IN POWER STEERING HIGH PRESSURE HOSE FITTING. REPLACED HOSE AND FIXED PROBLEM. CAR DID NOT HAVE VERY MANY MILES. HOSE WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V460000 (AIR BAGS) AND 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SLOWED DOWN WITHOUT WARNING AND STALLED. WHEN RESTARTED IN PARK VEHICLE BEGAN TO REVERSE. UPON INSPECTION MECHANIC DETERMINED THE GEAR ALIGNMENT WAS OFF TRACK AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. *KB THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE GEAR BOX HAD TO BE CLEANED OUT AS WELL, BECAUSE A LIQUID SUBSTANCE WAS SPILLED INSIDE OF IT, WHICH CAUSED THE GEAR LEVER TO BECOME MISALIGNED. A DAY AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, THE CONSUMER BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A GEAR SLIPPAGE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE HAD A BAD GEAR SHIFT, WHICH WAS CAUSING THE SLIPPAGE. THE CONSUMER DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS FOR A COUPLE DAYS WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WHILE IN PARK. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER IT WAS NORMAL AND THAT THE GEAR JUST NEEDED A SMALL ADJUSTMENT. THE CONSUMER DECIDED TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. IT WAS FINALLY DETERMINED THAT THE SHIFT CABLE WAS BAD. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE FIRST DEALER BECAUSE THEY CLAIMED THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD SHIFTER MODULE WHEN IT WAS REALLY THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE. *JB
- DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM ON 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED FAILED. COLD AIR WAS BLOWING FROM ONE SIDE DESPITE THE SETTINGS. RESULTED IN A $1200 REPAIR AT THE DEALERSHIP. -DASHBOARD HAS A LOUD CREAKING SOUND COMING FROM ITS UNDERSIDE WHEN I TURN ON THE VENTILATION. -CREAKING FROM THE DASH SECONDS AFTER SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND CRACKED THE RADIATOR DUE TO THE RADIATOR FAN HAVING FRACTURED INTO PIECES. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS CONTACTED FOR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HEARD OF A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN A NEWS REPORT, BUT WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH RECALL IN EFFECT. AT A LATER DATE THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF A NHTSA RECALL #06V199000; REGARDING ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLER, COOLING SYSTEM FAN BY THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN BRAKING, THE STEERING WHEEL SHUDDERS AND FRONT END VIBRATES. I WAS TOLD BY JEEP SERVICE THAT CALIPERS WERE DEFECTIVE CAUSING ROTORS TO WARP. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 23000 MILES. DEALER SERVICE INFORMED ME ALL FRONT END BRAKE COMPONENTS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION, SERVICE DEPT. AGREED TO A ONE TIME REPAIR UNDER A '' GOOD WILL WARRANTY. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS WEBSITE, I SEE THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR AT LEAST 4 YEARS. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL AT SOME POINT IN TIME. *JB
FRONT CALIPERS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED FOR ROTOR WARPAGE AT 10,200 MILES UNDER TSB WARRANTY. AT 38,500 MILES THE VEHICLE REQUIRES ROTORS AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER IS NOW SPECIFYING AN UPGRADED SLOTTED/VENTILATED ROTOR, SUGGESTING THE ORIGINAL DESIGN *AND* TSB REPAIR WERE IMPROPERLY ENGINEERED. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT BEAR THE FINANCIAL BRUNT OF THIS FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY DEFECT. *NM
AFTER JUST LESS THAN 30K MILES, BOTH FRONT SEAT ELEMENTS STARTED TO GET OVERLY HOT, THEN STOPPED WORKING. TOOK INTO DEALER, FOUND SHORT IN BOTTOM ELEMENT. VEHICLE WAS STILLL UNDER WARRANTY, I HAD ALSO BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. EVERYTHING FOR THAT EIGHT WAY POWERED SEAT WAS COVERED BUT THE HEATER ELEMENT. WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE AN $800 PER SEAT FIX. I DECLINED TO HAVE IT FIXED. NOW I FIND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, BUT THAT IT DOES NOT COVER MY VIN NUMBER ACCORDING TO BOTH THE DEALER AND DAIMLERCHRYSLER. IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE HOW THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS AFTER READING ALL THE BLOGS FROM PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE AND THE SAME RESPONSE FROM CHRYSLER. SURE COULD USE SOME HELP GETTING THEM TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WERE (1) RAPID FOGGING OF FRONT WINDSHIELD,(2) FOGGING OF FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS,(3) FAILURE OF PASSENGER HEAT WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DRIVER HEAT FUNCTION, AND (4) ONLY COLD AIR RELEASE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF JEEP. CONSEQUENTLY,(1) THE WINDSHIELD AND FRONT WINDOWS DO NOT DEFOG, AND (2) NO HEAT WHATSOEVER COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AND DASHBOARD VENTILATION SYSTEM. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR. ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITEDS WITH DUEL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND IN NOVEMBER 2005 AND BY MAY 2006 THE AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT STOPPED WORKING. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF RAPID FOGGING OF WINDOWS. I RECENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A JEEP DEALER TO HAVE SERVICE DONE, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BLEND DOORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE BLOWER. THIS WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $1300. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS HEATING AND AC FAILUREWERE MAINLY DUE TO FOGGING OF THE WINDOWS. WHILE DRIVING DURING CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE WINDOWS WILL RAPIDLY FOG UP AND THE DEFROSTER WILL NOT WOR, K CAUSING A DANGER TO MYSELF AND THOSE AROUND ME. AS OF NOW I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THIS PROBLEM DUE TO THE HIGH COST.*AK
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ELECTRIC WINDOW CABLE BROKE. WINDOW WOULD NOT MOVE AND THEN FELL INSIDE OF DOOR. DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED WITH DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW. *JB
2002 JEEP CHEROKEE, DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATORS FAILED. THE DRIVER SIDE REGULATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. *KB *NM***NAR***
2002 LAREDO ENGINE LIGHT AND SERVICE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *TS WHEN THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO HIM, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND OTHER PROBLEMS HAD SURFACED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO THE VEHICLE BUT CREATE MORE PROBLEMS. *JB THE VEHICLE USED EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF ANTIFREEZE. THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE COULD NOT BE USED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND COOLANT LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES. THE HEAD GASKET BLEW. WHILE THE CONSUMER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE SUDDENLY. THE SES LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. *NM
NEED FULL BRAKE REPLACEMENT( CALIPERS, ROTORS, PADS) DUE TO PULSING IN THE FRONT END WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED MODERATELY. MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CHRYSLER CONCORDE AND HAVE COMPLAINED TO CHRYSLER MANY TIMES TO NO AVAIL. THEY SIMPLY USE LOW QUALITY PARTS. WILL NEVER BUY CHRYSLER AGAIN. *JB
MY JEEP SEEMS TO BE IN NEED OF A HEATER CORE REPLACEMENT WHICH IS EXPENSIVE TO FIX FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE EVERYTIME WE GET IN THE CAR TO DRIVE, THE WINDSHIELD IS COMPLETELY FOGGED UP, THE DEFROSTER DOESN'T WORK, HEATER DOESN'T WORK, BUT THE A/C DOES. I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO FILL UP THE ANTIFREEZE, AND I CANT HELP BUT WONDER IF THE FUMES BEING EMITTED FROM THE WINDSHIELD ARE HAZARDOUS TO ME AND MY FAMILY? IT IS SO HARD TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDOW AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY BECAUSE EVEN WHEN YOU WIPE THE FOG OFF, IT COMES RIGHT BACK. I FEAR GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE CAR. WE CONTACTED WORTHINGTON DODGE OF CARLSBAD, WHO REFERRED US TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER SINCE WE HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH THEM. THEY TOLD US THAT IT IS NOT A COMMON PROBLEM, NOR IS IT A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD US :OH WELL, WE WONT COVER IT, AND GET IT FIXED YOURSELF." *NM
FOR NO SPECIFIC REASON THE WINDOWS ON THE JEEP CHEROKEE GRAND LAREDO SUDDENLY DROP IN THEIR CHANNELS AND WILL NOT COME BACK UP. I HAD A SIMILAR FAILURE ON A 2000 MODEL PREVIOUSLY OWNED, AND NOW WITH MY 2002 I HAD THE SAME ISSUE ON DECEMBER 31 2005 WITH THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, AND YESTERDAY WITH THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOW. THIS MORNING I CALLED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS GIVEN THE TYPICAL RUNAROUND. I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND TRIED TO GET THE DEDUCTIBLE ($100 PER OCCURRENCE) WAIVED AND THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. I WAS INFORMED BY MY SERVICING DEAL THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN CORRECTED IN MODELS STARTING IN 2005 WHERE THEY SWITCHED THE PLASTIC REGULATOR FOR A METAL ONE. I INFORMED CUSTOMER RELATIONS THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE AS TWO OTHER COWORKERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE ON THREE WINDOWS IN THE SAME MODEL TRUCKS/YEAR. WHO KNOWS HOW MANY OTHERS THERE ARE OUT THERE!. DAIMLER CHRYSLER OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T REALIZE THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAN CAN EXPOSE DRIVERS TO ACCIDENTS WHILE DRIVING IF THEY HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO A SUDDEN DROPPING WINDOW, OR A POTENTIAL PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE IF DRIVING IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AREA. PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. *JB
2002 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE -AT 6:40 A.M. BACKED INTO PARKING SPOT WHERE I WORK; PULLED FORWARD AND STRAIGHTENED UP BACKED INTO SPOT; JEEP JUMPED CURB HIT BUILDING; PUT JEEP IN DRIVE; JEEP CATAPULTED FORWARD AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED. I WENT THROUGH AN IRON FENCE INTO A LONG TERM PARKING LOT; STOPPED HITTING ANOTHER JEEP HEAD ON AND A CONCRETE BASE; IRON FENCE DAMAGE TO TWO ADDITIONAL CARS PARKED. NO ONE ELSE WAS INVOLVED; ONLY INJURIES WERE TO MYSELF WHEN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. EMS AND POLICE ARRIVED AND POLICEMAN TURNED OFF JEEP WHICH WAS STILL ACCELERATING AFTER IMPACT. JEEP WAS TOTALED AND ALL DAMAGES ARE BEING COVERED BY OUR STATE FARM INSURANCE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE OF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HOLD OR IS INEFFECTIVE DUE TO GREASE PASSING THROUGH THE REAR END SEAL IN THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SEAL AND BEARING TO CORRECT THE LEAK. NOW THE DRIVER SIDE HAS BEEN PRESENTING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO ADVISED THE CHANGE OF PADS AND ROTORS TO GUARANTEE THE CORRECT PARKING BRAKE FUNCTIONING.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PLACING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE WITH BRAKE PRESSURE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE LURCHED BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE IGNITION WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE WITH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED, BUT A REPORT WAS NOT TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION.
FAILURE CAUSES WINDSHIELD TO FOG UP AND DRIVER CANNOT SEE ROADWAY. ALL AC AND HEATER FUNCTIONS FAIL. THIS IS THE 5TH FAILURE AFTER REPEATED REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED, THE STEERING COLUMN MADE A POPPING NOISE. THIS OCCURRED WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES; HOWEVER, THAT MADE NO IMPACT ON THE POPPING NOISE.
MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED V8 ROTORS WARP EVERY 12K-15K. THE CONDITIONS WORSENS THE LONGER I WAIT TO HAVE THEM REPAIRED. I GET STRONG STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PULSATION WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS OVER 40 MPH, BUT I CAN FEEL AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 5 MPH. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN, I HAVE ISSUES BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS DUE TO THE PULSATION. *NM
VEHICLE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON, CHECKED FLUID LEVEL IT WAS LOW. OIL PRESSURE DROPPED DRASTICALLY. NORMALLY INDICATES ~40 PSI WHILE AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE, IT NOW INDICATES 10 PSI AT IDLE, IN DRIVE. AT START UP, WHEN ENGINE IS HOT, THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE WILL NOT MOVE UNTIL THE THROTTLE IS DEPRESSED. MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP OWNER CALLED A LOCAL JEEP SHOP WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE HEAD WAS PROBABLY CRACKED, AND THAT LEAKED COOLANT INTERNALLY, CAUSING THE CAM AND OR MAIN BEARINGS TO WIPE OUT, INDICATED BY THE OIL PRESSURE READINGS BEING LOW. ACCORDING TO THE JEEP SERVICE SHOP, THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE 6 CYLINDER ENGINE. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER 5 STAR SERVICE CENTER. AFTER EXPLAINING EVERYTHING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE SAID THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT BUT THAT HE HAD HEARD OF NO SUCH PROBLEM REGARDING THIS MOTOR. THE NEXT DAY, HE CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT THE MOTOR DID HAVE A CRACKED HEAD AND THAT THEY WOULD BE REPLACING IT UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN I ASKED HIM ABOUT POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE LOWER HALF OF THE MOTOR HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT COOLANT LEAKAGE HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM, THAT CHRYSLER WOULD NOT WARRANTY REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE, AND THAT 3-5LBS OF OIL PRESSURE IS ACCEPTABLE AT IDLE, 10PSI BEING NORMAL FOR THIS MOTOR. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORPORATE VIA EMAIL - RESPONSE- THEY WERE SORRY I WAS DISSATISFIED AND THAT "INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS ARE DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE..." - FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL YIELDED THE EXACT SAME RESPONSE. I AM CONCERNED THAT ONCE THE HEAD ASSEMBLY IS REPLACED, BOTH THE DEALER AND CHRYSLER WILL TRY TO IGNORE THE LOW OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS BEYOND WARRANTY COVERAGE, ABSOLVING THEM OF ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR IT FURTHER. THIS IS ALSO A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. SHOULD THE ENGINE FAIL, A SERIOUS MULTI VEHICLE ACCIDENT MAY RESULT FROM MOTORISTS PASSING THRU THE RESULTING OIL SLICK, ESPECIALLY IN A CONGESTED HIGHWAY SITUATION. IT IS MY OPINION THAT CHRYLSER KNOWS OF THIS DEFECT. *JB
AIR CONDITIONING BLOWER WOULD QUIT WORKING. FOUND A JEEP FORUM ON LINE. DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR WIRING CONNECTIONS OVERHEATING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE GRAND CHEROKEES. SEEMS LIKE JEEP SHOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL. *TR

I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 6 CYLINDER 4.0. YESTERDAY MY COOLING FAN BLEW UP FOR NO APPARENT REASON, DAMAGING RADIATOR AND AREA AROUND COOLING FAN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM SINCE IF THE HOOD WAS UP AT THE TIME THE FAN BLEW UP, SOMEONE COULD HAVE GOTTEN MAIMED OR KILLED. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AS REPORTED ON YOUR JANUARY LISTING OF PROBLEMS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SERVICE BRAKES PULSATE CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO VIBRATE. THE DEALERSHIP TURNED THE ROTORS AT 7,000 MILES. ON DECEMBER 3, 2004 AT 17,000 MILES THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THE VIBRATION RETURNED. AT 28,000 MILES THE PROBLEM RETURNED, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS.
WHILE PREPARING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, MY 2002 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD AT A FULL RATE OF ACCELERATION. MY RIGHT FOOT WAS PUSHING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, NOT THE THROTTLE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FOR ABOUT 2-3 CAR LENGTHS UNTIL IT STRUCK A BUILDING, CAUSING BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. I WAS PUSHING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SO HARD, THAT ONE OF THE BONES IN MY FOOT BROKE WHEN THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE BUILDING. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE AND TWO CHEROKEES, SO I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE BRAKE AND THROTTLE PEDAL LOCATIONS ON THESE VEHICLES. *JB

MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS ONLY 55K MILES ON IT AND THE DOOR\REGULATOR MOTOR FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS BROKE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH JEEPS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL THAT THERE ARE FAILURES OF THIS TYPE. IT IS 650 DOLLARS TO REPLACE BOTH DOOR REGULATORS. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. *JB
BLEND DOOR IN THE VENTILATION SYSTEM FAILED AFTER ONLY 40K MILES, CAUSING COLD AIR TO BLOW THROUGH THE VENTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, EVEN WHEN THE HEAT WAS ON. COST OF REPAIR WAS ~ $900 PARTS AND LABOR. *JB

ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES WITH DUEL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS.*AK

2002 GRAND CHEROKEE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO SECOND AND THIRD GEAR. *TS ***NAR*** THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A TRANSMISSION GOVERNOR SENSOR. ONE YEAR LATER, THE COOLANT LIGHT ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THE COOLANT WAS FULL, THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY TOO HIGH AND STAYED THERE, THE DEALER STATED IT WAS A BAD SENDING UNIT. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHEN THE VEHICLE MISFIRES, A POPPING SOUND COMES THROUGH THE RADIO WHENEVER IT IS TURNED ON. THE TRANSMISSION HAS STARTED TO SLIP AGAIN. *JB

TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AT A HIGH COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR.
