SECONDS AFTER TURNING ON THE DRIVER SIDE HEATED SEAT, IT GOT EXTREMELY HOT AND WAS UNABLE TO BE SAT ON, IT PRODUCED SMOKE, AND A BURNING SMELL WAS OBSERVED. THE HEATING ELEMENT HAS NOT WORKED SINCE. I BELIEVE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE HAD IT NOT BEEN TURNED OFF QUICKLY. *NM
HEATER BLEND DOOR INOPERABLE. MY PREGNANT WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS NEAR BIG BEAR, CALIFORNIA . IT WAS ABOUT 30 DEGREES THAT MORNING AND THE HEATER DIDN'T WORK. IT ACTUALLY BLEW COLD AIR ON THE WINDSHIELD, AND IT FROZE BLOCKING OUR VIEW WHEN WE RAN OFF THE ROAD. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAS A DUAL HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM. THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS PUTTING OUT COLD AIR AND THE DRIVER SIDE HEATED SEAT DID NOT WORK. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED A PART IN THE HEATER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *NM

I NOTICED POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING FROM MY CAR. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED AND FLUID CONTINUES TO LEAK. WHEN I HAD MY MECHANIC ASK CHRYSLER ABOUT IT, THE REP SAID THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE ACTUAL HOSE WHICH CAUSES FLUID TO LEAK. IN MY OPINION IF CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THIS, AND A POSSIBLE LOSS OF FLUID WHILE DRIVING, WHY DON'T THEY FIX IT. *NM
2002 HEATED SEATS PROBLEM. EXTREMELY HOT. HAD TO GET OUT OF CAR TO AVOID BURNING MY LEGS. SEATS NO LONGER HEAT. I GUESS THE ELEMENTS / SENSORS OR ? NO LONGER WORK OR BURNED THEMSELVES OUT. CHRYSLER-JEEP SAYS MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED IN THE ANNOUNCED (ON TV AND RADIO) RECALL OF 2003 AND 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUVS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. IT IS THE SAME HAZARD. JEEP BLEND DOOR BREAK - VISIBILITY PROBLEM BECAUSE OF DEFROSTER. *TR
I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 58,400 MILES. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WERE (1) RAPID FOGGING OF FRONT WINDSHIELD,(2) FOGGING OF FRONT PASSENGER WINDOWS,(3) FAILURE OF PASSENGER HEAT WHILE STILL MAINTAINING DRIVER HEAT FUNCTION, AND (4) ONLY COLD AIR RELEASE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF JEEP. CONSEQUENTLY,(1) THE WINDSHIELD AND FRONT WINDOWS DO NOT DEFROST, AND (2) NO HEAT WHATSOEVER COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR AND DASHBOARD VENTILATION SYSTEM. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, A "BLEND AIR DOOR" IS NECESSARY AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200 INCLUSIVE OF 7 HOURS OF LABOR. ACCORDING TO THE CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND ONLINE FORUMS, THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2000-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH DUEL ZONE VENTILATION SYSTEMS.*AK
I BOUGHT MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE USED WITH 51,249 MILES I FOUND OUT AFTER 30 DAYS THAT MY BLEND DOOR NEEDED TO BE CHANGED OUT THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT WAS KIND ENOUGH TO SPLIT THE COST 50% MY PART $492. NOW IT HAS GONE OUT AGAIN AND YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD LAST MORE THAN 2 YEARS WHAT CAN I DO BESIDES TRADE IT IN. *TR
(1) THE HVAC BLEND AND RECIRCULATION DOORS ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED BROKE. (2) THIS RESULTED IN ONLY COLD AIR BLOWING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. (3) DEALER QUOTES FOR REPAIRS (PARTS/LABOR) ARE $800+. *NM
THE HVAC SYSTEM IN MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BECAME INOPERATIVE DUE TO POOR QUALITY BLEND DOORS. THIS LED TO NO AIRFLOW FROM THE SYSTEM AND UNSAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO NO DEFROST/DEFOG CAPABILITY AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF VISIBILITY OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
UPON ACCELERATION, THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT BROKE RESULTING IN SEVERE BACKWARD AND SIDEWAYS TILT & ROCKING. SUBSTANTIAL CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN TO KEEP CONTROL OF VEHICLE. (I COPIED THIS COMPLAINT FROM ANOTHER COMPLAINANT BECAUSE IT IS IDENTICAL TO MINE). I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1999 GRAND CHEROKEE AND THE MANUFACTURER REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY AFTER MUCH NEGOTIATION, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, CALLING IT A SAFETY ISSUE. *JB
COLD AIR BEGAN COMING FROM THE VENTS SIDE OF THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT WHEN THE HEATER WAS ON. DEALER FOUND THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEATER BLEND DOORS THAT DIRECT THE AIR HAD BROKEN. A PLASTIC PART THAT DIRECTS THE DOORS HAD BROKEN. DEALER TECHNICIANS SAID THEY HAVE REPAIRED SEVERAL VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM. *JB
UNDER NORMAL USE OF MY 2002 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND, THE AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROLS SYSTEM HAS STARTED TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN THE HEAT IS ON, COLD AIR WILL BLOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE FRONT DEFROST WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY EITHER. I HAVE NOT FIXED THE FAILURE YET BECAUSE THE REPAIRS COST OVER $800 AND I CAN'T AFFORD IT. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO BLOW WARM AIR WHEN THE HEATER WAS ACTIVATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BLEND DOORS FAILED AND DID NOT MAKE THE REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND LEAKED ANTIFREEZE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE FAN, RADIATOR, AND HARNESS WERE BURNED. THESE COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALWAYS SWAYED BACK AND FORTH AS IF IT WERE OFF BALANCED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, SHE NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE RADIATOR FAN CRACKED AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE BELT, RADIATOR FAN, THERMOSTAT, AND WATER PUMP WERE REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,000. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HER OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: FAN); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. THE MANUFACTURER ONLY COVERED THE EXPENSE OF THE FAN, WHICH WAS $265. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT IS STILL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL AND THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
MID SUMMER MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN, I THOUGHT WITH THE HELP OF MY 5 YEAR OLD SON. THE DEALER CHARGED ME $500 TO REPLACE THE POWER WINDOW ACTUATOR. TODAY, MY PASSENGER WINDOW FELL ALSO. I'M ON DISABILITY, HAVEN'T WORKED IN ALMOST A YEAR - HOW CAN I AFFORD TO FIX THIS SAME PROBLEM AGAIN? I'M GLAD TO SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS A NHTSA ENGINEERING ANALYSIS EA05020 CONCERNING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING FAN. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE MANIFESTED THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THIS ANALYSIS. THE FAN OF THE MOTOR EXPLODED, RESULTING IN EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED FOR THIS PROBLEM. *AK (11/23/05) THE STEERING WAS NOISY AND WOULD GRIND ON HIGH IDLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE WHEN BRAKING DUE TO THE FRONT DISC PADS WEARING LOW AND THE FRONT ROTORS AND THE PINION SEAL LEAKED. *SC
MY JEEP LIBERTY '02 REAR WHEEL DRIVE. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES AT ABOUT 50-55 MPH ON A WINDY DAY(50 MPH WINDS) WHEN THE WIND THREW MY BACK END INTO THE GUARD RAIL WHEN APPROACHING AN OVERPASS.THE JEEP HIT THE BACK END ON RAIL FOLLOWED BY THE FRONT END THEN ROLLED UPSIDE DOWN CROSSED THE OVERPASS BEFORE ROLLING OVER ONE COMPLETE TIME THEN FINALLY LANDED RIGHT SIDE UP ON TOP OF THE RAIL ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE OVERPASS. MY JEEP WAS HIT ON EVERY SECTION OF PANELS ON EVERY SIDE PLUS LOST MANY SECTIONS FROM THE FRONT AND SIDE ENDS. NOT ONE OF MY AIR BAGS WENT OFF AND MY KEYS WOULD NOT COME. THE JEEP NO LONGER LOOKS LIKE AN SUV, MORE LIKE A KIA RIO OR SOMETHING. I SHOULD OF HIT AT LEAST ONE OF THE SENSORS FOR THE AIR BAG. *JB
BRAKES HAVE BEEN SQUEAKING CONSTANTLY. I BROUGHT MY 2002 JEEP CHEROKEE TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY HAVE YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ALSO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS APPEARED TWICE AND I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THEM TO SIMPLY TURN IT OFF WHEN THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I HAVE PAID WELL OVER $600 FOR THESE PROBLEMS AND I HAVE ONLY 29,000 MILES ON THE CAR!!!!!!!! *JB
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CLIMATE CONTROL BLEND DOOR FAILED. THIS CAUSES OUTSIDE AIR TO BLOW FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF DASH EVEN WHEN HEAT SETTING IS TURNED TO MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE. DEFROSTING WINDSHIELD UNDER WINTER ICING CONDITIONS VERY DIFFICULT. DEALER WANTED $500 - $1500 FOR REPAIR, DEPENDING ON AMOUNT OF LABOR REQUIRED REMOVAL OF DASH. *JB
TAIL LIGHT/BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FAILED LEAVING ONLY CENTER BRAKE LIGHT WORKING WHEN HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON. PASSENGER TAILLIGHT/BRAKE LIGHT FAILED COMPLETELY. BOTH TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS PART OF CIRCUIT BOARD WAS MELTED.*JB
02 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BLEND DOOR FAILURE, HEATER AND DEFOGGER FAILURE. *NM
DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEED OF 35 MPH, I HEARD A LOUD BOOM (LIKE SOMETHING HAD HIT THE CAR), I STOPPED AND CHECKED AND SAW NOTHING. ALL GAUGES DISPLAYED NORMAL RANGES AND I CHECKED ALL FLUIDS AND VISUALLY LOOKED AROUND THE ENGINE AREA FROM THE TOP. EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL, BUT SIX DAYS LATER WITHOUT FURTHER NOISE OR WARNING SIGNS THE ENGINE TEMP PEAKED MAX, WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT. TESTED THE ENGINE AS DIRECTED PER THE MANUAL AND NO GOOD. A TOW WAS INITIATED TO A REPAIR SHOP THE END RESULT WAS THE FAN HAD BROKEN INTO PIECES AND GONE INTO THE RADIATOR AND THROUGH TO ANOTHER SECTION. TOTAL COST OF REPAIR WAS OVER $1500 AND I AM STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID THAT IS BEING ADDRESSED ALL RELATED TO THE FAN COMING APART AND FLYING INTO OTHER ENGINE PARTS. *NM
LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE ON 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. ORIGINAL LOWER BALL JOINT RECALL WAS NOV 03. AT THAT TIME MY VEHICLES BALL JOINTS WERE INSPECTED AND THE ALUMINUM HEAT SHIELD WAS INSTALLED. MY BALL JOINT WAS NOT REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE ALREADY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 23911 MILES ON 29 JUL 03. I NOW HAVE 42665 MILES TODAY 25 OCT 05, AND THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT HAS FAILED. IT HAS EXCESSIVE BUMP (UP AND DOWN MOTION IN THE SOCKET) AND VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL AND ON FLOORBOARD. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, AND IS PARKED WAITING FOR NEW PARTS, BASED ON OTHER FAILURES I HAVE SEEN OR HEARD ABOUT. JEEP HAS USED AN UNDER RATED PART FOR THIS APPLICATION. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BALL JOINT ONLY LAST 20,000 MILES AND BE CONSIDERED "NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE" AS D/C WOULD CLAIM. SUMMARY: 2002 JEEP LIBERTY BUILD DATE:08/01 LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURES AT: 23911 MILES ON 29 JUL 03 AND 42665 MILES ON 25 OCT 05. ON ORDER ARE HEAVY DUTY SERVICEABLE REPLACEMENT BALL JOINTS FROM MOOG PART # K3199, WILL REPLACE ALL 4 BALL JOINTS WITH STRONGER SERVICEABLE MOOG JOINTS. I WILL BE KEEPING ALL 4 OLD JOINTS, INCLUDING THE FAILED LEFT FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT. *NM
VEHICLE SHAKES WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED FOR HIGH SPEED BRAKING. JEEP IS QUOTING $700 TO REPAIR. THE RECOMMENDED FIX IS TO INSTALL A DIFFERENTLY MANUFACTURED CALIPER AND ROTOR, THE ORIGINAL DESIGN IS DEFECTIVE. REFERENCE TSB 00500302B. IT IS A DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE SAFETY RELATED FIX DUE TO DEFECTIVE INITIAL DESIGN. *NM
BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (2002) TWICE SINCE PURCHASE NEW. BOTH TIMES WEAR WAS UNEVEN AND SYMPTOMS WERE EXTREME SHAKING WHILE BRAKING. THE DEALER DID NOT CHARGE FOR THE BRAKE REPAIRS, BECAUSE HE SAID THEY WOULD BILL DAIMLER CHRYSLER AS THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE THIRD TIME THE BRAKES BEGAN SHAKING I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR MANUFACTURER EXTENDED THE BRAKE WARRANTY UP TO THREE YEARS AND 36000 MILES BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT BUT WOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR REPLACEMENTS AFTER THAT TIME. I AM NOW EXPECTED TO REPLACE THESE HORRIBLE BRAKES ON MY OWN. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND GOT NO ASSISTANCE. I AM AWARE THAT A RECALL WAS PLACED ON PREVIOUS JEEP BRAKES, AND I AM INFORMING YOU OF THESE FACTS SO IT COULD BEGIN AN INVESTIGATION AGAIN. THANK YOU. *JB
DRIVERS SEAT FRAME HAS BROKEN 4 TIMES AND SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH. I HAVE HAD THE SEAT REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE LAST TIME I WAS TOLD A NEW PART NUMBER WOULD BE INSTALLED, WHEN I CLAIMED THE VEHICLE, I FOUND THE SAME PART NUMBER WAS PUT IN AND THAT ONE FAILED. TWICE IN THE PAST 7 MONTHS I REQUESTED THEY ORDER THE NEW PART, THEY AGREED AND EACH TIME I WENT IN TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE STATUS OF MY REQUEST, THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF MY REQUESTING THE PART. AT THIS TIME THE MILEAGE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. *JB
THIS IS IN RELATION TO ACTION # EA05-020 ON THE 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON THE DATE LISTED BELOW, THE BLADES SEPARATED FROM THE MOTOR AND THE "SHRAPNEL" PUNCTURED MY RADIATOR AND MY BATTERY. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION SO, THE HOOD WAS CLOSED AND NO ONE WAS INJURED. HOWEVER, I HAD TO SPEND ABOUT $800 IN PARTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *NM
THIS IS MY 4TH JEEP. HERE IS A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON THIS ISSUE. I PURCHASED A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, THE OVERLAND EDITION. THE DEALERSHIP PUSHED BUYING A USED CERTIFIED JEEP VEHICLE! THEY MENTIONED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WOULD TAKE CARE OF ANY ISSUES THAT THE JEEP HAD DURING THE LAST YEARS OF MY OWNERSHIP. I WENT IN THE DEALERSHIP LOOKING TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE BUT THEY TOLD ME ALL THE ADDED BENEFITS / VALUE FROM BUYING FROM THE USED JEEP FACILITY! THE WARRANTY: AS MENTIONED I PURCHASED THE WARRANTY SOLD BY JEEP AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE AGREEMENT THAT WAS SOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP WENT BANKRUPT! GARY MILLER CHRYSLER JEEP ISUZU LOCATED IN ERIE, PA SOLD THIS TO ME. MY 1ST ISSUE WAS WHEN I DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN BECAUSE OF A VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. I WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE COMPANY WAS BANKRUPT WHEN TYING TO CALL AND FIND OUT WHAT INFORMATION WILL BE NEEDED WHEN I GO TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP IN KANSAS CITY. FURTHERMORE I MENTIONED TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT PUSHED THE CONTRACT THAT I AM WILING TO PURCHASE THE BEST CONTRACT TO MAKE SURE I DO NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY NEW VEHICLE IN THE FUTURE. THE CONSTANT ISSUES: I HAVE NOW TAKEN IN MY JEEP FOR 6 VISITS! I HAVE ONLY INCLUDED SOME OF THE PAYMENTS (SEE THE ADDITIONAL PAPERWORK) BUT YOU CAN SEE A TREND HERE. THIS JEEP HAD BEEN NOTHING BUT A PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE! I AM NOW STUCK REPLACING THE STEERING PUMP FOR THE 2ND TIME! I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND LIVE WITHOUT A VEHICLE. I AM OUT SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS AND STILL HAVE TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE (THAT JEEP PUSHED ON ME) TO THE SERVICE SHOP ABOUT EVERY 6 MONTHS. I JUST STARTED DRIVING MY VEHICLE FROM THE LAST SERVICE REPAIR (I AM GETTING VERY FAMILIAR TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIPS) AND STILL THE ITEM IS NOT FIXED AND MY JEEP IS LEAKING OIL ALL OVER OUR COMPANY DRIVEWAY. THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON AND THE COMPANY THAT MADE THE VEHICLE SOLD ME A BANKRUPT CONTRACT. *NM
RIGHT REAR PASSENGER POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED ON 10/3/05, AND THE WINDOW FELL DOWN. COST TO REPLACE $370.00. WHILE AT THE REPAIR SHOP PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, THE RIGHT FRONT POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. REGULATOR ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED, TOTAL FOR THE DAY $725.00. *NM
MY 2002 JIGS SPECIAL EDITION W/ V8 4X4 HAS AN UNIDENTIFIED ELECTRIC PROBLEM. 3 TIMES SO FAR IN 2005 WHEN TRYING TO START THE JEEP THE SYSTEM GOES COMPLETELY DARK. NO ELECTRICITY AT ALL. IT WON'T START, THE LIGHTS WON'T WORK, THE REMOTE WON'T WORK. YOU CAN'T EVEN JUMP START IT. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY (EVEN THOUGH I REPLACED IT 8 MONTHS PRIOR). THE SECOND TIME IT STARTED WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WENT TO CHECK THE MILES, SO THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO WAY FOR THEM TO FIGURE IT OUT. LAST NIGHT IT HAPPENED AGAIN, AGAIN IT HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALER AND I AM WAITING FOR RESULTS. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES HE OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THERE WAS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10005603 REGARDING THE VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM:WINDSHIELD:CONTROLS/WIRING. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE HAD THE REPAIRS DONE, BUT THE COST WAS $1,357.24. HE WAS STILL NOT SATISFIED WITH THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE SOME OF THE VENTS PUSHED THROUGH A LOT OF AIR, AND SOME OF THE VENTS PUSHED THROUGH A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF AIR. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY DEFECT BECAUSE IT DID NOT ALLOW THE DEFROSTING SYSTEM TO WORK PROPERLY ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS NO HEAT OR AIR CONDITIONING ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE DIGITAL CONTROL FOR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE DOOR DID NOT WORK DUE TO THE BREAKING OF THE DOOR VENTS AND THE DUCT WORK FOR THE DEFROST/DEFOGGER, AIR CONDITIONER, AND HEATING SYSTEM. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY STATED THEY WOULD GET BACK IN CONTACT WITH THE CONSUMER AFTER THEY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER CALLED BACK, THEY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY WOULD DO BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE THREE YEAR, 36,000 MILES WARRANTY.*AK THE TRANSMISSION GOVERNOR SOLENOID WAS REPLACED. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE WARPED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2005 THE RADIATOR FAN FAILED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE LOUD NOISES WHEN THE THE ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN FRACTURED AND SEPARATED INTO 50 PIECES. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HAD THE RADIATOR FAN REPAIRED. AFTERWARDS, THE CONTACT RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL # 06V199000 REGARDING ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN, AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HASDA HOLE IN THE RADIATOR, AND HER REQUEST WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE FAILURE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 70,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE RADIATOR FAILED AT BOTH MILEAGES.*AK

I OWN A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ABOUT A WEEK AGO WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A LOUD POP COME FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN I STOPPED TO EXAMINE THE PROBLEM, I SAW A LARGE LEAK COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, I SAW THAT THE PLASTIC COOLING FAN IN MY ENGINE HAD SHATTERED AND THE PIECES PUNCTURED MY RADIATOR. THE SHROUD COVERING MY COOLING FAN HAD ALSO BEEN SHATTERED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE JEEP TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER (WHOM I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM). AFTER LOOKING AT IT THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE CAUSED BY THIS INCIDENT. IN ADDITION TO NEEDING A NEW COOLING FAN, SHROUD AND RADIATOR, I ALSO NEEDED A NEW HEAD GASKET BECAUSE THE CAR HAD OVERHEATED. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE PLASTIC FAN WHICH LED TO THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS SITUATION AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 68 IN MARYLAND WHEN ENGINE FAILED. DOUGLAS MOTORS A MEMBER OF THE CHRYSLER GROUP INFORMS ME THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO SLUDGE. ENGINE OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY 3000 TO 5000 MILES WITH 5W 30. CHRYSLER OFFERS NO HELP EXCEPT I SHOULD OF TAKEN THE EXTENDS WARRANTY. *JB
DT CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE FAILED ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2005, THE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED TO ZERO WHILE ON A HILL, ALL TYPES OF NOISE CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE. CONSUMER STATED THEY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER, AND DEALER SAID THERE WAS SLUDGE BUILD UP INSIDE THE MOTOR. CONSUMER A HAS USED THE PROPER OIL AS STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOT FROM CHANGING THE OIL AT CHRYSLER. HOWEVER, CONSUMER STATED THEY HAD RECORDS FOR THE OIL CHANGES AT THEIR LOCAL MECHANIC. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ABOUT TWO INCHES FROM THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKE ACTIVATED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE AND REPLACED A MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE PADS, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THIS WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2005 MY HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN OUR 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WHEN A CAR MADE A LEFT HAND TURN IN FRONT OF HIM. WHEN THE CARS IMPACTED THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN HIM RESULTING IN HIS FACE HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HUSBAND SUFFERED FACIAL TRAUMA AND WHIPLASH AS A RESULT. CHRYSLER WAS CONTACTED ON 9/19/05, AND THEY DID INDICATE THAT SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT US WITH IN 48 HOURS SO THAT THEY CAN COME TAKE A LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. OTHER THAN THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NM
ON 9/6 DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. WENT TO FIRESTONE FOR REPAIR COST WAS 420 DOLLARS. 2ND TIME PART WAS REPLACED, FIRST TIME WAS WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD. 3 DAYS LATER SAME EXACT PART FAILED IN PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. CAR HAS LESS THAN 50K MILES ON IT. *JB
2002 GRAND CHEROKEE UNLIMITED (WJ) BLEND DOOR BROKEN. CREAKING/GROANING SOUNDS COMING FROM UNDER DASH. WHEN HEATER IS ON, PASSENGER SIDE GETS ONLY COLD AIR. FIRST DISCOVERED IN SEPT OF 2005 WHILE VEHICLE WAS BELOW 36000. VEHICLE STILL WITHIN FACTORY WARRANTY (100,000). WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE BLENDER DOOR WAS BROKEN AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. COST TO REPAIR APPROX. $850.00. UNSATISFACTORY SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH WJ OWNERS. WE'VE BEEN LIVING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR TWO YEARS DUE TO THE COST OF THE REPAIR. *JB

WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, A LOUD POP WAS HEARD, SOUND SIMILAR TO THAT OF METAL EXPANDING WHEN HEATED. THE AIR CONDITIONER QUIT WORKING AT THIS TIME. WHEN I DROVE THE CAR ON SUNDAY,SEPTEMBER 4TH, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND UPON RAISING THE HOOD, SAW THAT THE FAN WAS GONE AND PIECES OF THE COVERING OF THE RADIATOR WERE BROKEN AND MISSING. *NM
WHILE STOPPED IN A PARKING SPACE, CHECK GAUGE LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS AT 260 DEGREE. I SHUT OFF ENGINE AND OPENED HOOD. THE ELECTRIC FAN HAD SHATTERED AND PUT A HOLE THROUGH THE FAN SHROUD AND THE RADIATOR. PARTS OF THE SHATTERED FAN WERE LODGED IN THE SERPENTINE BELT PULLEYS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED ONE WEEK BEFORE TO AN IDENTICAL 2002 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. (SAME YEAR AND MOTOR).MY VEHICLE IS NOW IN A JEEP DEALERSHIP. I AM AWAITING DETERMINATION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT REPAIRS ARE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED. UPON RETURNING HOME, I WENT ON LINE TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE NHTSA WAS CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION BASED ON OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINTS THAT THEIR ELECTRIC COOLING FANS HAD SHATTERED AND PUNCTURED THE FAN SHROUD AND RADIATOR. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND IS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 6 CYLINDER ENGINE. *JB

CALLED TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST AND THEY SAID AROUND $300.00 BUT THEY COULD GET IT UP FOR ME FOR $100.00 . THEN ON 9/9/05 WE HAD WENT OUT TO DINNER, AFTER DINNER WE STOPPED AT MY PARENTS HOUSE MY OLDER SON GOT OUT TO GO IN AND WHEN HE SHUT THE DOOR THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW JUST FELL DOWN. SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN NOW I AM AT A REPLACEMENT COST OF AROUND $600.00 PLUS WHATEVER LABOR IS. AS I WAS READING UNDER ALL THE COMPLAINTS I FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WHAT IF THERE WAS A STORM AND YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE REGULATOR FAILS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN? THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE CHECKED INTO BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE INFANT CHILDREN THAT RIDE IN THE BACK PASSENGER SEATS. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. A PIECE OF THE FAN BROKE OFF AND WENT INTO THE RADIATOR, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RADIATOR. THE FAN AND RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC TOLD HER A PIECE OF THE FAN BLADES BROKE OFF, DESTROYING THE RADIATOR. HE SAID THE FAN MUST HAVE STALLED TO HAVE POSSIBLY CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED ON AUGUST 22, 2005. THE CONTACT WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A LOW SPEED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *AK
WHEN TURNING RIGHT, AND ONLY RIGHT, THERE IS A RUBBING OR SQUEALING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. IT OCCURS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING AND ONLY WHEN SLOWLY TURNING THE WHEEL. DAIMLER CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS A HYDRAULIC KIT SET UP TO FIX IT. THE DEALERSHIP WILL REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT THE CONSUMER MUST PAY FOR IT. *NM
