HEARD PLASTIC BREAKING, THOUGHT I HAD RUN OVER SOMETHING. THEN LOUD BREAKING PLASTIC NOISE, THEN COOLANT LOW LIGHT CAME ON, THEN ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING AND OVER HEATING. FRONT FAN CAME APART AND BROKE THROUGH RADIATOR. HAD TO REPLACE FAN MODULE AND RADIATOR. REPLACED THERMOSTAT AND FLUSHED COOLING SYSTEM. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO SOME BENCHES. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
JEEP STARTED SHAKING WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IT WAS NOTICEABLE BUT NOT HORRIBLE. I LIVE IN COLORADO AND WENT UP INTO THE MOUNTAINS WHERE BRAKES WERE APPLIED MORE FREQUENTLY. HAD A CAR LOAD OF GIRL SCOUTS ON A CAMPING TRIP. WHEN THE BRAKES HEATED UP, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING SO VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR. THE GIRLS WERE SCARED TO DEATH AND THE SHAKING CAUSED ME TO ACTUALLY PULL OVER AND PUT THE GIRLS OUT OF THE CAR TO RIDE WITH OTHER PEOPLE IN OUR GROUP. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE IT IN MY LIFE. I WAS IN TEARS BY THE TIME WE GOT TO THE CAMP SITE AND ALL THE WAY HOME IT DID THE SAME THING. I NEVER GOT THE CAR OVER 30 MPH IN A 2 HOUR DRIVE HOME. THE CAR DOES NOT SHAKE AS VIOLENTLY IF THE BRAKES ARE NOT THAT HOT, BUT IT DEFINITELY SHAKES SUBSTANTIALLY. HAD THE ROTORS REPAIRED BUT THE BRAKE PADS WERE FINE. THIS IS THE SECOND SET OF ROTORS I HAVE PUT ON IN THE PAST 18 MONTHS.*JB
I HAD WARPED ROTORS ON MY CAR 3 TIMES NOW. THIS LAST TIME, I ONLY WENT LESS THAN 10,000 MILES. THEY KEEP USING THE SAME PART, SO THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT. I JUST GOT THIS PROBLEM FIXED AND LATER THAT NIGHT MY BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING. I HAVE A CONSTANT RUBBING NOISE WHEN I TURN MY CAR (NOT SHARPLY, JUST NORMAL TURNING). THEY CHECK IT EVERY TIME I'M IN FOR SERVICE AND STATE THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. I HAD FLUIDS LEAK IN MY CAR THAT CAUSE A WIRE TO BURN (WITHIN 3000 MILES) AND OTHER OIL LEAKS THAT REQUIRED NEW SPARKS. I FEEL LIKE I'M CONSTANTLY IN THE SHOP WITH THIS CAR. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON AUGUST 11, 2005, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. THE WINDOW WAS UP AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. THE WINDOW WAS UP AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT COULD HEAR A POPPING SOUND BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER. THE DEALER REPAIRED ALL THE WINDOW FAILURES. ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2007 THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FAILED AGAIN. THE CONTACT HAS ALL THE REPAIR ORDERS FOR THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,745 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,362.
2002 GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP STARTED MAKING AN UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN FIRST STARTING THE CAR AND WHEN IDLING. MECHANIC SAID THAT THE COOLING FAN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AS THIS CAR ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES ON IT, I AM UPSET TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS THE THIRD JEEP THAT WE HAVE OWNED AND HAVE NEVER INCURRED THIS PROBLEM. *NM
COOLING FAN ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BROKE AND DESTROYED THE FAN, SHROUD AND FAN MOTOR! *NM
FAN BLADE BROKE AND PENETRATED THE PROTECTIVE SHROUD ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4.0 SIX CYLINDER. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT FOR REPAIR. I AM TAKING THE CAR IN 8/15/05. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY THING WRONG UNTIL THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED AND I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHEN DRIVING OVER 50 MPH THE LIGHTS AND GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL STUTTER. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE JERK FORWARD AND HESITATED WHENEVER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND HAVE RECENTLY BEEN TOLD THE ROTORS ARE WARPED. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY PREVIOUS 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF LEASING IT BRAND NEW. IN SPEAKING WITH THE JEEP SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND LOCAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS WARPING IS A SPECIFIC PROBLEM WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BRAKING SYSTEMS. IN SPEAKING WITH THEIR CORPORATE OFFICE, THEY ARE UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A PROBLEM. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LAREDO. THE FRONT AND BACK BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED FOUR TIMES DUE TO THE APPLICATION OF CHEAP ROTORS TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE PULSATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH STOPPING. OTHER THAN THE PULSATION THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE PULSATION OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING AND ROAD CONDITIONS. THE REPLACEMENTS HAD TO BE DONE EVERY 9,000 MILES AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER WITH THE MANUFACTURER COVERING HALF OF THE COST. *AK
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (WJ), ELECTRICAL WIRES MELTING AT BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER FOR HEATER /AC INTERIOR FAN. FIRE HAZARD AS THIS CIRCUIT IS HOT EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF. POOR CONTACT BETWEEN THE WIRE FEMALE SPADE CONNECTOR AND THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER MALE SPADE TERMINAL CAUSED EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH RESULTED IN THE WIRES BEING CHARRED AND THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER HOUSING MELTING. DEVICE IS LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ACCORDING TO DEALER, DAIMLER CHRYSLER CLAIMS THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM BUT I EXPERIENCED IT ON MY VEHICLE AND BECAME ALARMED WHEN I READ ABOUT CAR FIRES RESULTING FROM THIS SAME DEFECT ON MYCARSTATS.COM. MY VEHICLE SERIAL NUMBER IS [XXX]. I ORDERED AND REPLACED THE MELTED BLOWER MOTOR AND CRIMPED THE FEMALE CONNECTOR TIGHTER TO MAKE A TIGHTER CONNECTION WITH THE MALE TERMINAL AFTER BEING NOTIFIED BY THE JEEP DEALER THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED AND THAT NO TSB EXISTED FOR THIS DEFECT. BLEND DOOR FAILURE 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, COLD AIR COMES IN ON PASSENGER SIDE AROUND GLOVE BOX. CAN NOT TURN HEATER ON HIGH, IF YOU DO HEATER TURNS OFF BECAUSE OF RESISTER THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE ALREADY(HAD TO WAIT FOR THE PART BECAUSE OF BACK ORDER, IMAGINE THAT). WINTER WEATHER - COLD OUTSIDE, WARM BODIES IN JEEP, WINDOWS FOG, NO VISIBILITY!! LEAVE JEEP SIT OUTSIDE WITH FOG ON WINDOWS - SCRAPE ICE (WHICH ONCE WAS FOG) OFF THE INSIDE OF WINDOWS. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS ATTENTION BY JEEP. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE BEFORE THIS GETS ADDRESSED BY ANYONE!! I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PART(S) ARE REPLACED AND KEEP GOING OUT. 1. PURCHASED CAR USED IN FEBRUARY 2005. FAN BROKE OFF IN JULY 2005. RAN AIR DAILY IN SUMMER, NO PROBLEMS, THEN ONE DAY IT JUST MADE A POPPING NOISE. THERE WERE PIECES OF THE PLASTIC FAN ON THE GROUND, AND A PIECE STILL UNDER THE HOOD. 2. I HAVE A WARRANTY, BUT IT DOES NOT COVER THIS VEHICLE. IT OVERHEATS IF I IDLE TOO LONG BECAUSE THERE IS NO FAN. TO PURCHASE A FAN SHROUD FROM A JEEP DEALER COSTS $370-400, NOT INCLUDING LABOR. 3. HAVE NOT REPLACED FAN/FAN SHROUD YET.*AK
AT APPROXIMATELY. 63K, VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR UNTIL DRIVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MINUTES. WHEN TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, THEY DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL-MAINTAINED AND ONLY DRIVEN ON HIGHWAY AND IN CITY. TRUCK WAS NEVER USED TO TOW ANYTHING OR DRIVEN OFF-ROAD. *JB
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, AND THE DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED BY AN AUTHORIZED JEEP DEALER, THE FAN BLADE BROKE APART DAMAGING THE RADIATOR AND SHROUD. THE FAN, RADIATOR, AND SHROUD ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE AS 68,000 MILES ON IT. *NM
DT: CONTACT STATES SINCE THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS LEASED THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE WHEEL WELL. HAD THE ROTORS RESURFACED OR REPLACED 4 TIMES SINCE 2002. THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING THE BATTERY DIED. THE SERVICE DEALER SAID THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THE FIRST AND SECOND SET OF ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE THIRD TIME CONSUMER WAS NOT OFFERED AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT BURNED OUT AND MELTED THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HOLDER OF THE LIGHTS. IN 2005, HE REPLACED THE ENTIRE LENS AND PLASTIC COMPONENT AT THE COST OF APPROXIMATELY $115. MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE, WHICH ALSO CAUSED A SHORT. THE REPAIR FOR THIS FAILURE ALSO COST $115. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TAIL LIGHT STRUCTURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000. UPDATED 05/21/08 *BF UPDATED 05/20/08. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATES WHILE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE ABOUT 65 MPH, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING BECAUSE FRONT CALIPERS LOCKED DOWN ON THE ROTORS. THE FRONT TIRE BECOMES SO HOT THAT SMOKE STARTS COMING FROM THE TIRE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE SERVICE DEALER AND THERE IS A NEW BRAKE KIT AVAILABLE FOR THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED LETTING THE CONSUMER KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. *NM
IN MARCH 2004 AT APPROXIMATLY 11,800 MILES I HAD THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 JEEP REPLACED DUE TO WARPED ROTORS. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED IN ACORDANCE WITH TSB 05-003-02 AND TSB LON 05-81-01-92. IN JUNE 2005 AT APPROXIMATLY 21,000 MILES THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AGAIN AND THE JEEP DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ROTORS AGAIN BUT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. EVEN IF THEY HAD REPLACED THEM UNDER WARRANTY I WOULD STILL BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THESE BRAKES IF THE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED EVERY 10,000 MILES. AFTER A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO SUBMITTED A REQUEST FOR ASSIATANCE FROM CHRYSLER BUT AFTER WHAT I HAVE READ I DON'T EXPECT MUCH HELP FROM THEM.
DT: THE CONTACT OWNED A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON JUNE 30, 2005 THE ELECTRIC FAN ON THE ENGINE CAME APART AND SHOT THROUGH THE RADIATOR. COST ABOUT $900 FOR REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS THE THIRD JEEP HE HAD REPAIRED IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND SAID THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK *JB
REPEATED WARPING OF THE BRAKE ROTORS ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, THREE TIMES IN 36,000 MILES. THIS CAUSES EXCESSIVE SHAKING WHEN BRAKING.
THE COOLING FAN BLADE JUST BROKE WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT. IT MADE THE CAR THUMP I THOUGHT SOMEONE HIT US BUT THE FAN BLADES BROKE THE FAN SHRODE AND PUT DENTS ALL IN THE RADIATOR AND BROKE THE FAN GUARD. THIS VECHILE HAS HAD MANY OF THE SAME PROBLEMS DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. WE LEASE THE JEEP AND HAVE PUT $$$ IN IT BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT TAKE IT BACK AS A LEMON WITH IN THE 2 YEARS. I STILL HEAR A BEEP COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH THAT JEEP NEVER FOUND THE PROBLEM OR FIXED IT. I JUST HAD THE FAN RELAY CHANGED BECAUSE IT WENT OUT. WITH IN THE FIRST 2 YEARS I HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOR A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS I HAVE ALL THE PAPER WORK. I AM AFRAID THE JEEP WILL CATCH ON FIRE OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE ALSO CHECKED MANY OTHER THINGS THAT WERE ISSUES WITH THE JEEP. LEAKING SHOCKS AND TRANSMISSION PAN AND EMISSIONS IS NOW LEAKING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND EVERY TIME I GET IT CHECKED IT'S A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. I'M OUT OF MY WARRANTY NOW BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS WRONG. THE DEALER REPLACED 2 OF 4 LEAKING SHOCKS THEY LEFT THE TRANSMISSION PAN LOOSE WHEN THEY REPLACED A PART IN THE TRANSMISSION. THIS JEEP IS UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD IT HAS LOST POWER IN THE PAST WHILE TRAVELING SO THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY TWICE WITH IN A MONTH.
THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ARE NOT BUILT STRONG ENOUGH. THEY WILL WARP WITHIN 12,000 TO 14,000 MILES, CAUSING THE FRONT END TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS HAPPENS WELL BEFORE THE BRAKE PADS ARE WORN ENOUGH TO BE REPLACED. MY JEEP HAS 32,000 MILES AND HAS ALREADY GONE THROUGH TWO SETS OF ROTORS, AND WILL BE NEEDING ANOTHER SET SOON.
MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED IS BLOWING COLD AIR OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND MAKES A CREAKING SOUND IN THE DASH EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF. *NM
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON MY JEEP I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THE LIGHT IS FROM A MALFUNCTION WITH THE GAS CAP SEAL. ALSO THE HEATER AND A/C DON'T WORK AND I HAD THEM LOOK INTO IT THEY SAID THE MAIN DEVICE INSIDE THE DASH WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND WANT TO CHARGE ME OVER $850. ALSO MY SEAT HEATERS DON;T WORK ANYMORE AND AGAIN THEY SAID THE HEATING PAD FAILED. THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR THE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS STATING IT'S NOT COVER IN THE WARRANTY THAT ENDED 1 AND A 1/2 MONTH AGO
DT: THE CHROME RIMS THAT WERE AN OPTION ON THE VEHICLE, ON THE INSIDE METAL CORRODED AND PEELED OFF. ALREADY TALKED TO THE DEALER, AND THE MANUFACTURER NOTICED THIS . JUST THIS WEEK. THE TIRES ARE GOODYEAR, WRANGLERS. *AK THE TIRES NOW ARE MICHELIN TIRES WHICH WERE CHANGED AT 50,000 MILES. THE WHEEL OR RIM HUBS HAD TO BE BROKEN OFF BECAUSE THEY WERE RUSTED OUT DUE TO CORROSION. *TT *SB

THE HEADLIGHTS TURN ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES WITHOUT CAUSE. THIS OCCURS WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, THE KEY REMOVED, AND USUALLY AFTER THE JEEP HAS BEEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND NOT OPERATED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND SOMETIMES FOR SEVERAL DAYS. WE HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM LOOKED INTO BY THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. WE HAVE ALSO ENSURED THAT THE HEADLIGHT DASH SWITCH APPEARS TO BE WORKING CORRECTLY AND IS POSITIONED CORRECTLY. *NM
DT: THIS STARTING AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME ON APRIL 30TH, 2005, AND THIS HAPPENED BEFORE ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF AGO. THE ROTORS WENT OUT AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME. CONTACTED JEEP, AND THEY COVERED THE REPAIRS THE 1ST TIME, AND CURRENTLY THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE CONSUMER FOR THE SECOND TIME. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 38,450 MILES ON IT. DEALER RECOMMENDED PUTTING ON HEAVY DUTY ROTORS ON IT. *AK
WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG - SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS SHOT, SO I PULLED OVER. COOLANT WAS LEAKING OUT AND THERE WERE PIECES OF BLACK PLASTIC ALL OVER THE GROUND. WHEN I LIFTED THE HOOD, I FOUND THAT ONLY HALF MY FAN WAS ATTACHED. THE OTHER HALF APPARENTLY BROKE OFF AND BLEW THREW MY RADIATOR. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FAN, MOTOR, RADIATOR, THE FAN SHROUD AND COOLANT. THE GARAGE SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR WITH NO WARNING SIGNS. THE CAR IS PAMPERED AND MAINTAINED WELL. *JB
AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM HAS FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME, CAUSING UNPREDICTABLE WINDOW FROST CONDITIONS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE HEARD FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY THE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATING, AND THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE COOLING FAN HAD SEPARATED. THE RADIATOR FAN, THE SHROUD AND THE RADIATOR WERE ALL REPLACED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL # 06V199000, WHICH PERTAINS TO THE ENGINE COOLING FAN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.

THE 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS A FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION WITH THE GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IS PART CONSISTENTLY FAILS EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED. WHEN DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO SKIP AND SLOWS ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT CAN CAUSE A CRASH AND INJURE PEOPLE. I HAVE HAD THIS PART REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN A 1 1/2 YEAR PERIOD AND THE COST IS NOT CHEAP EVERYTIME IT COST $656.00. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON TRANSMISSIONS FOR JEEPS FROM 2000-2002, BECAUSE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE BEING EFFECTED BY THIS MISHAP. *NM

VIBRATION DURING BRAKING RESULTED IN REPLACEMENT OF FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS AT 30,000 MILES. PROBLEM IS RECURRING AT 45,000 MILES. NOTE THAT IN THIS MODEL YEAR DAIMLER CHRYSLER REVISED WARRANTY TO EXCLUDE ROTORS FROM STANDARD 3YR/30K COVERAGE. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, MANUFACTURED 8-2001. IN NOVEMBER 2004, THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE A HARD START TO IT. THE LONGER THE CAR SAT, THE LONGER IT TOOK TO START IT. SOMETIMES THE CRANKING WENT ON FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. IT WOULD DO THIS FOR 2-3 WEEKS AND THEN STOP FOR 2-3 WEEKS AND THEN REPEAT THE CYCLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE MESAGE WAS 341: MEANING CAMSHAFT SENSOR MALFUNCTION. IT IS INVOLVED IN RELAYING POWER TO THE ENGINE AND, IF IT FAILED, COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER WHILE IN MOTION. I SPENT $220 TO HAVE IT FIXED. HOWEVER, THE HARD START STILL CONTINUED. I WENT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. I ASKED THEM HOW IN 3 MINUTES THEY COULD KNOW THAT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN A REALLY HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THE FUEL PUMP MODEL WHICH WAS INSTALLED IN MY CAR. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT HAS BEEN A PERSISTENT PROBLEM IN GRAND CHEROKEES IN YEARS 1999-2003. I ASKED WHY THEY HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR INVESTIGATIOIN AND THE SERVICE ASSISTANT TOLD ME THAT THE COST TO REPLACE THESE FUEL PUMPS WOULD BE EXHORBITANT IF DONE ACROSS A MASS SCALE. HOWEVER, HE WAS MORE THAN HAPPY TO GIVE ME A $550 BILL TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY IT BECAUSE, AT SOME POINT, IT WOULD FAIL ALTOGETHER RESULTING IN AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE. MY COMPLAINT IS THIS: IF THEY ARE AWARE OF A SERIOUS FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE THAT IS WIDESPREAD AND THEY REFUSE TO PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE, IS THERE SOMETHING THAT NHTSA CAN DO? I ALSO WANT TO REPORT THIS FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE IN THIS COMPLAINT.*AK
WAS STOPPED AT A SERVICE STATION, WHEN I PLACED THE CAR INTO GEAR IT LURCHED BACK AS IT PASSED THROUGH REVERSE ,AND THEN WENT FORWARD AT FULL THROTTLE. THE JEEP CANNOT BE PUT INTO GEAR WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES DID NOT HOLD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS A FULL THROTTLE. IF I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT INTO A POLE I WOULD HAVE HIT NUMEROUS OTHER CARS. THE JEEP DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. I AM VERY CERTAIN THAT I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR.*AK

THIS CONDITION MAY BE CASUED BY THICKNESS VARIATION OF THE BRAKE ROTOR SYSTEM. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BRAKES & CALIPERS MUST BE REPLACED. AS FOR THE SPEAKER, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY NUMEROUS CAR AUDIO REP'S THAT EVERY TIME A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE COMES IN THAT THEY HAVE BLOWN SPEAKERS(ALL 6); THEY GO ON TO TELL ME THAT IT IS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE MANUFACTUER PLACED AN AMPLIFIER THAT IS WAY TO POWERFUL FOR THE SPEAKERS. MY SPEAKER FAILED AT APPROX. 23,000 MILES UNDER NORMAL USE. (3)LUCKLY, I AM A TRAINED MECHANIC AND CAN MAKE THE REPAIRS MYSELF OR THE COSTS WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH GREATER. I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE 2 WINDOW REGULATORS AT $246.10 EA AND THE SPEAKERS TOTALED $256.76 WITH A WARRANTY. ** ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT WHEN MY REGULATORS FAILED THE WINDOWS JUST FELL DOWN INSIDE OF THE DOOR; THIS LEFT MY VEHICLE VULNERABLE TO WEATHER, THEFT AND OTHER SAFETY FACTORS.
