CALIPERS, ROTORS, PADS. THIS IS AT LEAST THE 3RD TIME I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY BRAKES TOTALLY REPAIRED SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARADO NEW IN 9/2001. I AM A "HIGHWAY" DRIVER SO I USE MY BRAKES VERY LITTLE. I HAVE HAD WARPED, SCORED, BLUE ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES, GLAZED PADS AND STICKING CALIPERS. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. MANY, MANY OTHERS HAVE LISTED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SIMILIAR VEHICLES. MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAY "IT IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST". THIS IS NOT A GOOD REASON FOR THESE FAILURES. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ON THIS SUBJECT AND I FEEL IT IS TIME THAT THERE IS ONE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL "NEAR WRECKS" WHILE BRAKING DUE TO ONE OR THE OTHER SIDE "GRABBING" OR TAKING FOREVER TO STOP. (NOT SPEEDING) I WANT AND NEED RESULTS! I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THAT TAKES CARE OF THE CALIPERS BUT NOT THE ROTORS OR PADS THAT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY THE CALIPERS. DUH! DOES THAT SOUND RIGHT? HELP!!!!*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE WAS CONTINUOUS AND OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY REPLACED BOTH FRONT BRAKE PADS UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR REPLACEMENT OF BOTH FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THERE HAS BEEN NO RESOLUTION AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
DT: 04-29-04 WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT,PRIOR TO THAT HAD BEEN TO A FLOWER NURSEY WHERE A LOT OF DIRT AND GRAVEL WERE ON GROUND AND THEN TO A SHOPPING CENTER. DRIVING A SLOW SPEED APPROACHING STOP SIGN, REGULAR WEIGHT IN VEHICLE. APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE WHICH SEEMED TO GRIP AND THEN STARTED TO SLOW AND THEN LOST FUNCTION ON BRAKES. APPLIED STEADY PRESSURE TO TRY TO STOP BEFORE THE INTERSECTION, APPROXIMATELY 15 FEET FROM THE INTERESECTION TOOK FOOT OFF BRAKE WHICH WAS PRESSED TO FLOOR WHICH SEEMED AS IF THEY WERE RESPONDING BUT ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS WHICH CEASED TO WORK DESPITE CONTINOUS PRESSURE. NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. REMOVED FOOT IMMEDIATELY AND THEN PUSHED DOWN HARD TO ENGAGE ABS. FELT OR HEARD NOTHING. AT THAT POINT, STEERING WAS UNDER CONTROL BUT CAR WAS NOT STOPING. WAS IN STRAIGHTWAY STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH WAS SPEEDING THROUGH. HIT THE SIDE OF THE PASSENGER PART OF THE OTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR, TOTALED SUV WITH FULL FRONTAL IMPACT. AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN A SOFT MANNER. FEELS AS THOUGH SENSORS ALONG WITH OTHER SYSTEMS WERE NOT OPERATING NORMALLY. SUFFERED HEAD AND CHEST INJURIES. SELT BAGS DID NOT LOCK ALONG WITH BRAKES. AGAIN AIR BAGS WERE SOFT, DRIVER WENT THROUGH AIR BAG STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH HEAD AND CHEST. *AK
AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A VIBRATION/PULSATION DURING MODERATE BRAKING. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM AND REPLACED CALIPERS, PADS AND ROTORS. AT 50,000 MILES THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THIS TIME, THE DEALER SAID IT WAS MY PROBLEM, AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT OTHER THAN TURNING THE ROTORS. THE PROBLEM DISSIPATED SOMEWHAT AFTER HAVING THE ROTORS TURNED, BUT HAS RETURNED AND IS MORE PRONOUNCED AT 53,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE CAN BE SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING MODERATE TO HARD BRAKING. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT WHILE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED REAR WHEELS SPUN AND VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD, RPMS IDLED HIGH. *AK
PULSATION SENSATION WHILE BRAKING. FIRST NOTICED BETWEEN 6000 -8000 MILES AND LESS THAN 12 MONTHS. DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING WRONG. APPROX 10000 MILES AND OVER 12 MONTHS DEALERSHIP REPLACED WARPED FRONT ROTORS. NO CHARGE THIS TIME. APPROX 15700 MILES AND 16 MONTHS DEALERSHIP AGAIN REPLLACED WARPED FRONT ROTORS. CHARGED FOR 12 MONTHS/12000 MILE WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON VEHICLE. NO PERMANENT SOLUTION OFFERED.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE RIMS CORRODED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY FAILED TO MAINTAIN PROPER AIR PRESSURE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. *AK *SC *JB
ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED COLD AIR BLOWS FROM ONE SIDE OF THE DASH EVEN WHEN I HAVE THE HEAT TURNED ON. THE JEEP DEALER TOLD ME THAT I HAVE A BLEND DOOR FAILURE AND THE REPAIR WILL COST ABOUT 1200 DOLLARS. *JB *JB
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED PREMATURELY. AS A RESULT, WHEN APPLYING BRAKES EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE OCCURRED. *AK
CAR, JEEP LAREDO 2002 W18000 MILES. NEEDED NEW FRT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS.
WHILE BRAKING THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED. *AK THE CONSUMER ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING ON MOUNTAIN CURVES. THERE WAS A CLUNK SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, AS IF SOMETHING WAS MOVING FORWARD. THE DRIVESHAFT WAS REMOVED ALONG WITH THE LUBE SLIP JOINT. *SC *JB
WE HAVE HAD 3 FRONT BRAKE ROTOR INCIDENTS IN 3 YEARS WITH A CALIPER/ROTOR REPLACEMENT @ 8,000 MILES. FRONT ROTOR RESURFACED SOMEWHERE AROUND 20,000 MILES AND REPLACED AGAIN AT MY OWN EXPENSE AT 28000 MILES. THE PROBLEM WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO FRIGHTEN MY WIFE (SHE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THE 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO) BECAUSE OF SEVERE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE AND BRAKE PEDAL PULSATION WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. MOST SEVERE WHEN ENTERING THE OFF RAMP ON THE INTERSTATE. I KEPT THE OLD ROTORS THAT THE DEALER INSTALLED AT 8,000 MILES. THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE COMPONENTS THE LAST TIME SAYING THAT THEY ARE "WEAR ITEMS" AND I WAS PAST THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A HEAT PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE COMPONENTS. MOST LIKELY CAUSE WOULD BE CALIPERS FAILING TO RELEASE OR SOME TYPE OF RESTRICTION TO THE BRAKE FLUID RETURNING TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. I KNOW OF ONE OTHER OWNER OF A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *NM
I RECENTLY HAD MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ROTORS REPLACED AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES DUE TO SEVERE SHIMMERS IN MY STEERING COLUMN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED.T ALL STARTED AT ABOUT 12,000 MILES. NOW I HAVE 25,000 MILES AND THE SHIM IS STARTING ONCE AGAIN JEEP MUST INSTALL THE LOWEST QUALITY ROTORS ON THE MARKET AND ITS NOT SAFE. *AK
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FRONT ROTOR PROBLEMS.*MR THE VEHICLES ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES IN 25 MONTHS DUE TO ROTOR DEGRADATION. *NM
INTERMITTENTLY CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONSUMER ALSO SAW SPARKS COMING FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK *NM
THE BRAKE ROTORS ON THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE GO BAD ANYWHERE FROM 6000 TO 15000 MILES. MY FIRST SET LASTED 9500 MILES AND WERE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE BY THE DEALER BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE DEFECTIVE. THE SECOND SET ONLY LASTED ABOUT 6700 MILES, AND THEY HAD TO BE RESURFACED. AFTER COMPLAINING TO DIAMLER CHRYSLER DIRECTLY, I ONLY HAD TO PAY A 50 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLE, WHICH I SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO PAY AT ALL, BEING THAT JEEP ROTORS AND DEFECTIVE, AND THEY SEEM TO ADMIT TO THE PROBLEM, BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT THAT THE COSTURMER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM THEY REFUSE TO FIX. I ONLY HAVE 16000 MILES ON MY GRAND CHEROKEE, AND I HAVE HAD ROTOR PROBLEMS TWICE ALREADY. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS.*AK
I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO CHECK INTO THE TYPE OF PRODUCT THAT CHRYSLER (JEEP) TO BE SPECIFIC IS USING ON THEIR WINDOWS. I HAVE A 2002/AND 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO AT THIS TIME ONLY ONE WINDOW IS OPERABLE THAT BEING THE PASSENGER SIDE, THE OTHER THREE WINDOWS HAVE TO BE TAPED UP, TO STAY UP, THE WINDOWS CAN NOT BE FULLY SECURED WHICH CAUSES RAIN TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, AND ALSO DAMPNESS WHEN SITTING OUT OVERNIGHT. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, WHEN I EXPLAINED THIS PROBLEM TO CHRYSLER I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE I BEG TO DIFFER TRYING TO NOT HAVE IT RAINING ON YOU WHEN DRIVING OR COMING IN THE OTHER WINDOWS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLES WERE OUT OF WARRANTY I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A WARRANTY ON SAFETY. THE WEB SITE SHOWS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THIS PARTICULAR MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM A HIGH POWER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND INVESTIGATE THE INFERIOR PRODUCTS BEING USED BY THIS COMPANY CHRYSLER WANTS TO FALL ON DEAF EARS RATHER THAN BACK ITS PRODUCT THAT IS ONE REASON THAT IMPORTS ARE A MUCH MORE POPULAR VEHICLE, THOUGH THEY ALSO HAVE SOME PROBLEMS, BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE FOREIGN AUTO MAKERS ARE WILLING TO BACK THEIR PRODUCT THEY HAVE PRIDE IN THEIR SELVES UNLIKE AMERICAN MFGS. *TR
INTEGRATED CHILD SAFETY SEAT HARNESS CLIP BROKE ON THE THIRD TIME IT WAS USED. CONSUMER FELT THAT THE HARNESS CLIP WILL NOT RESTRAIN CHILD IN A CRASH.*AK
MAY 11, 2004 DEAR SIR OR MADAM: I AM WRITING THIS LETTER WITH REGARDS TO MY GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 2002, VIN #[XXX] AND FILE #[XXX]. IN DECEMBER OF 2003, I PULLED INTO A CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE MY TRUCK SERVICED IN NJ, BECAUSE IT WAS DRIVING IMPROPERLY, AND NOT GETTING UP TO ITS NORMAL SPEED PROPERLY. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS UNTIL A CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER IDENTIFIED THE TRUCK AS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AT THE TIME THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 35,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE I WAS UNABLE GET ANY ASSISTANCE WITH MY VEHICLE FROM CHRYSLER, I WAS FORCED TO CALL AAA, A RELIABLE SERVICE AND PROVIDER TO TOW MY TRUCK. WHEN THE AAA TOW MAN ARRIVED HE INFORMED ME THAT I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY SHIFT GEAR/TRANSMISSION. I IMMEDIATELY RESPONDED WITH GREAT SKEPTICISM, AS CHRYSLER'S SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES ASSURED ME THAT I NO LONGER SHOULD EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION. THE AAA REPRESENTATIVE WHOM WAS SENT TO TOW MY TRUCK MANAGED TO GET MY TRUCK STARTED AND I WAS ON MY WAY ONCE MORE. THE NEXT DAY I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM OF THE RECENT PROBLEMS I WAS EXPERIENCING AND IMMEDIATELY THEY CHECKED THE TRUCK IN. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS BEING CHECKED I NOTIFIED THE MECHANIC THAT THE TRUCK WOULD ONLY START IN NEUTRAL. I ALSO BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION; A NEW PROBLEM THAT THE TRUCK WAS EXPERIENCING. THE TRUCK ROLLED BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS WHILE IN THE PARKING GEAR. AT THIS POINT, AS A VALUED CONSUMER, I WOULD LIKE TO RETURN THIS TRUCK WITH NO PENALTIES, BE REIMBURSED FOR THE CAR RENTAL AND POSSIBLY CONTINUE A LEASE ON ANOTHER VEHICLE OTHER THAN A CHEROKEE. FOR THE PAST MONTH, MY STEERING SHIMMIES AND VIBRATES WHILE BRAKING.I ALMOST HAVE TO FLOOR THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP. I FEEL A MAJOR DIFFERENCE IN MY BRAKES OVER THE PAST MONTH. I HAVE CONTACTED A JEEP DEALORSHIP AND AM TAKING IT THERE ON MAY 28, 04 TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. *MR
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT PLASTIC FUEL LINE INJECTION SYSTEM WAS LEAKING GASOLINE, AND CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, FLOOR MANAGER INDICATED VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED NOT TO USE ETHANOL GAS. ALSO, FLOOR MANAGER INDICATED THOSE VEHICLE SHOULDN'T BE DRIVENIN ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, OR OTHER PLACES WHERE THEY USE ETHANOL. *AK
ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BEEP UNDER DASH, DOME LIGHTS COMING ON, RADIO GOES OFF, ALL DASH LIGHTS(ABS, BRAKE,ETC.). TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS 3 TIMES IN SHOP FOR SLIPPING AND LEAKING SEALS. LEAKING AT PAN, OUTPUT SEAL AND, DRIVE TRAIN THEY CHANGED SEALS AND 1 MONTH LATER OUTPUT SEAL WAS LEAKING AGAIN. GOVERN ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED 8/3/03 ALONG WITH SOLENOID, TRANSDUCE. FAULTY BATTERIES. SHOCKS ALL LEAKING BUT THEY REPLACED 1 FRONT 1 BACK. *JB
GAS CAP FAILURE. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER TO HAVE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. REPLACED GAS CAP AT $45 COST. *JB
THE BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WEAK, HOWEVER AT 26,000 MILES I HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKES RESURFACED. MY MECHANIC HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND HE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A DEFECT WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM, AND THAT EVENTUALLY THE BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. NOW AT 33,000 I NEED TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES I WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK
PURCHASED NEW 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE,BRAKES BEGAN PULSATING MILDLEY AT 15,000 MI,MODERATELY AT 20,000MI & SEVERE AT 25,000MI. DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR,SAID THERE HAD BEEN NO RECALLS REGUARDING BRAKES.*AK UNLESS JEEP OR THE DEALERSHIP OFFERS TO FIX I WILL BUY TOYOTA OR HONDA FOR MY NEXT VEHICLE.
VIBRATION IN BRAKES...WEAK BRAKES. I HAVE HAD THEM RESURFACED AT 26,000 AND NOW NEED TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED AT 32,000. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TOLD THAT THIS WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THAT MY BRAKES WILL NEED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED.*AK
THE ROTORS AND BRAKES WERE REPLACED @ 9200 MILES DUE TO SEVERE VIBRATION AND PULLING OF THE STEELING WHEN BRAKING. THIS REOCCURED AT 16000 MILES, THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS WOULD BE THE "LAST TIME" THEY REPLACED THEM. NOW AGAIN AT 23,000 THE STEELING IS SHAKING AND PULLING. I HAVE A DIFFICULT THINKING THAT IT IS "DRIVER ERROR" THAT IS CAUSING THE BREAKDOWN.*AK

TO TEMPORARILY FIX IT WAS, $119.99, BUT THE PROBLEM COULD COME BACK. MY CLAIM IS THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLES' FRONT BRAKES AND THAT AFTER AS LITTLE AS 5,000 MILES, THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEELS "SHAKE" AND THAT DRIVERS ENCOUNTER SEVERE VIBRATIONS THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL, FLOOR, SEAT AND PEDALS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *AK
THE FRONT HEATED LEATHER PASSENGER SEAT OF MY VEHICLE GOT SO HOT THAT IT SERIOUSLY BURNED MY DAUGHTER WHO IS A PARAPLEGIC. SHE SUSTAINED THIRD DEGREE BURNS TO HER BUTTOCKS AND TO HER FOOT WHICH WAS RESTING ON THE SEAT. SHE HAS UNDERGONE MULTIPLE SURGERIES TO INCLUDE SKIN GRAFTS AND SHE HAS HAD MULTIPLE ADMISSIONS TO THE HOSPITAL. *AK
CAR HAS 14,000M, THE STEERING WHEEL SHUDDERS AT 50MPH WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. AT 5-10MPH THEY CAN BE FELT GRABBING AN RELEASING.*AK
THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE MECHANIC NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE MECHANIC PLACED THE VEHICLE ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE FOR FURTHER OBSERVATION. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS EXPERIENCING MORE PROBLEMS THEREFORE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER TOLD THE MECHANIC THAT A RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE TO REPLACE A SECONDARY FLOOR SHIFTER. THE CONSUMER FEELS THIS RECALL MAY NOT HAVE BEEN DONE PROPERLY. BRAKES PULSATE AND SHAKE THE ENTIRE VEHICLE UNDER LIGHT BRAKING PRESSURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, DEALER INFORMED THAT VEHICLE MISSED BUILD DATE TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY 25 DAYS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THERE WAS SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. ALSO, THIS PROBLEM WAS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE, TO THE POINT WERE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE IN CONSUMER'S HANDS. DEALER FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM PERTAINED TO THE BRAKE ROTORS. *AK
WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON SLIPPERY ROADS SHE SLID INTO AN INTERSECTION AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY DAUGHTER CLAIMED SHE WAS GOING SLOWLY AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED FELT A SHUDDER AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP. TO CHECK HER STORY WE TOOK THE CAR TO A BRAKE SHOP. THEY TOLD US THE BRAKES WERE DEFECTIVE. THEY COULD TELL BY THE VERY UNEVEN WEAR. 75% WARN ON 1 SIDE OF BOTH FRONT BRAKES. 25% WEAR ON THE OTHER SIDE . *AK
TWO OF THE WHEELS ON THE CONSUMER'S 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LEAKED AIR DUE TO RUST. *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE INSIDE OF THE RIM WAS RUSTING. *JB
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS LEASED. THERE WERE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL TROUBLE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES. *AK *SC
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2002. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND IS HARD TO STEER WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED ABOVE 50 MPH. BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT APPROX. 7,000 MILES, ROTORS WERE RESURFACED AT 15,000 MILES AND AT 18,000 MILES THE PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN.
MY WIFE & I WERE DRIVING ON I-95 SOUTH WHEN MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT BEFORE WE COULD DO ANYTHING IT SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO 2ND GEAR AND WENT FROM 60MPH TO AROUND 25MPH WHILE WE WERE STILL IN THE 3RD INSIDE LANE OF A 3 LANE HWY SO WE PROCEDED TO PULL OFF THE HWY AND CHECK OUT THE TRUCK AND ALSO LET IT SIT FOR AWHILE AND IN DOING SO THE LITE WENT OFF SO WE PROCEDED TO GET BACK ON AND GO STRAIGHT HOME BUT AS WE TRIED TO GET ON THE HWY IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME WE WENT FROM DRIVE TO 1ST GEAR AND WE ALMOST GOT REARENDED BY AN 18 WHEELER BUT HE MOVED OVER AT THE LAST SECOND, WHERE WE GOT ON THERE WAS NO BREAK DOWN LANE SO WE HAD TO GO FOR ABOUT A MILE AND IN THE PROCESS WE STARTED TO LOOSE THE BRAKES DO TO PROBLEMS ARISEING FROM THE ABS AND ALSO THE ENGINE WAS ACTING FUNNY IT STARTED TO SHUT OFF THEN IT WOULD SPEED UP AND IT DID IT 3 OR 4 TIMES SO WHEN WE GOT OFF WE HAD THE JEEP FLATBEDED TO "GREENWICH JEEP" IN GREENWICH,CT. SOON AS IT'S FIXED I'M GETTING RID OF IT BUT I DID WANT TO NOTE THE PROBLEM WITH YOU! *AK
JEEP GC 2002-HAD ROTORS, PADS AND CALIPERS REPLACED AT 12,660 MILES BECAUSE OF VIOLENT SHAKING DURING BRAKING ON HIGHWAYS AT SPEEDS OF OVER 40 MPH, HAD TO REPLACE EVERYTHING AGAIN AT 23,989 MILES AND NOW AT MY OWN COST. MANAGER STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE "BLUE" AND THAT SOMEONE HAS BEEN RIDING ON THE BRAKES ALL THE TIME AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE WORPED ("BLUE" FROM HIGH TEMPERATURE). THAT IS NOT THE CASE, I DO REGULAR DRIVING IN THE CITY AND ON HIGHWAY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS I HAVE FOUND OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES ON THE JEEP INTERNET FORUMS.

TWO HUNDRED MILES LATER, THE SAME THING, NOTHING WAS FOUND. AT 6133 MILES IT HAPPENED AGAIN. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC. THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING. THE CAR WAS PARKED AND JUMPED INTO REVESRE BY ITSELF AND HIT A TREE. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH CONSUMER' VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. SEAT BELTS WERE USED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, BUT THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS CITED BY THE ATTENDING POLICE OFFICERS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH CONSUMER WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND WAS TREATED IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM. *AK
DT: 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS 34,000 MILES ON IT AND THE BRAKES HAVE GONE OUT TWICE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME AND IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, AND THEY REPLACED THE PADS AND CUT THE ROTORS. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED 20,000 MILES LATER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INTO A MECHANIC THIS TIME. *AK *SC
