DT: THE WHEELS ON THE OWNERS 2002 JEEP CORRODED AND LEAKED AIR FROM THREE WHEELS DUE TO THE WINTER ROAD SALT/WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE OWNER HAS TO CHECK THE AIR IN THE TIRES CONSTANTLY. THE OWNER CONTACTED THE DEALER WHOM SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS LO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FIRST WHEEL WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, THE OWNER IS NOT SURE WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO WITH THE WHEELS YET AND JUST KEEPS PUTTING IN AIR FOR TIME BEING. *AK *TT *NM
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF AND SHE TAKES THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, STEERING WHEEL NEVER LOCKS. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. PH
WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED TO 2ND GEAR. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PH. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED FROM 5TH TO 2ND GEAR, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE RPM'S TO GO FROM 1800 TO 4600 RPM'S. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO FIX. *SCC *JB
CAR SHAKES WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, STEERING WHEEL VISABLY SHAKING. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO AHVE THIS FIXED THEY RESPONDED BY TELLING ME THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKES. THIS IS A CAR THAT IS BARELY A YEAR OLD AND HAS 23,000 MILES ON IT. I EXPECT BRAKES TO LAST LONGER ON THIS AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR NEW BRAKES. WHEN I REFUSED, AND THROUGH MUCH HASSLE, THE DEALER REPLACED THEM AT NO CHARGE. MOST OF THE MILES ON THIS CAR ARE HIGHWAY MILES AND I WOULD EXPECT JEEP TO MAKE A BETTER PRODUCT. THIS IS AFTER I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TWICE IN ONE DAY FOR THE CAR COMPLETELY TURING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS.
GAS PEDAL DEPRESSED DURING BRAKING WHEN WEARING BOOTS OR LARGER SIZE SHOES RESULTING IN ACCELERATION INSTEAD OF BRAKING. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE ONLY TO HAVE MY RIGHT PORTION OF THE TREAD ON MY SIZE 11 CONSTRUCTION BOOT WAS ALSO PRESSING GAS PEDAL CAUSING THE TRUCK TO ACCELERATE. GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL SEEM TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. THIS IS MY THIRD GRAND CHEROKEE('93, '96, RECENT '02) AND ONLY THIS '02 SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS PROBABLY THE CAUSE OF OTHERS REPORTING ACCELERATING SYMPTOMS.
ROTORS AND BRAKES. I HAVE RESURFACED MY ROTORS ONCE AND NOW I AM REPLACING THEM. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW AND IT IS NOW 12 MONTHS AND 2 WEEKS OLD, MUCH TOO SOON FOR EITHER OF THESE REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS. THE DEALER TELLS ME ITS MY PROBLEM, NOT THEIRS. I AM ALSO HAVING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS FOR THE SECOND TIME.
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED AND APPLIED THE BRAKE, VEHICLE IS SHAKING FRONT AND REAR. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND WILL REPLACE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS, AND CALIPER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO THAT AFTER THE FIRST 10K MILES STARTED TO DEVELOP LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. IN ADDITION AT 90 DEGREE TURNS OR 45 DEGREE GYRATIONS, I HEAR TAPPING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE GEARBOX. AFTER CONTINUED USE PER THE DEALERS REFUSAL TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND CLAIMING THAT THIS IS A NORMAL BEHAVIOR OF THE GEAR BOX FOR THIS MODEL, I AM NOW EXPERIENCING POOR AND UNSAFE HANDLING OF MY JEEP. THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN SUBJECTED TO BUMPS OR HOLES IN THE ROADWAY WILL BEHAVE OR RESPOND IN AN ERRATIC FASHION TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. IN WET OR SNOWY CONDITIONS THIS HAS RESULTED IN NEAR SIDE CRASHES WITH OTHER CARS ALONG SIDE MINE, BECAUSE THE SLIPPERY CONDITIONS REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF CONTROL YOU HAVE WITH YOUR VEHICLE AND HAVING A LOOSE OR NON-COOPERATIVE STEERING GEAR BOX MAKES THIS HAZARD EVEN WORSE. MY VEHICLE IS THE V6 MODEL, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, ''CHRYSLER PUT AN OLDER VERSION OF A GEARBOX SYSTEM THAT IS NOT FOUND IN THE V8 MODELS''. THE LONGER I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE THE LOOSER THE STEERING COLUMN FEELS AND THE LOUDER THE TAPPING SOUND HAS BECOME. IN ADDITION THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE ASSEMBLY STEERING BARS TO LOOSEN AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE TWICE IN THE PAST TWO YEARS I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER, THAT WHEN DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE STEERING COLUMN WILL JERK SEVERALLY, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER WAS A SIGN THAT THE JOINTS AT THE END OF THE ASSEMBLY BARS WAS LOOSE AND REQUIRED REPAIR WORK. THAT TO ME IS A SIGN THAT IF THE STEERING BOX IS DEFECTIVE THEN IT PUTS MORE STRESS ON THE BARS TO COMPENSATE FOR THE GEARBOXES INABILITY TO CONTROL THE HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE. I MAY NOT BE AN AUTOMOTIVE EXPERT, BUT SOME TIMES IT''S JUST PLAIN COMMONSENSE. BUT THIS ISSUE IN MY OPINION IS VERY SERIOUS AND SHOULD BE REVIEWED BY THIS AGENCY. THANK YOU

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HEATED SEATS WOULD OVERHEAT AND BURN THE BACK OF THE SEAT OCCUPANTS LEGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V117000 (SEATS: FRONT ASSEMBLY: SEAT HEATER/COOLER). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 0 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
PURCHASED NOVEMBER 2001, HAD TWO RECALLS FOR FUEL SYSTEM WITHIN TWO MONTHS, DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS PREVIOUS RECALL FIXED BEFORE I PURCHASED. ENGINE SAFETY WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON AND STAYED ON SEVERAL DAYS ON SEVEN (7) SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER CLAIMS NOT TO WORRY CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY. PLUS SEAT HEATER WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, INTERIOR HEATER STOPPED WORKING EXCEPT DEFROST. I BELIEVE THEY ARE ALL RELATED AND IS WHY THE ENGINE SAFETY WARNING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. ALSO TO NOTE--VEHICLE SWAYS BACK AND FORTH OVER SMALL BUMPS, LIKE RIDING A SMALL BOAT IN ROUGH WATER. *NLM
AIR COND. RATTLES DURING ACCELERATION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS NORMAL?
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. SINCE THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE CONTACT FEELS A VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING 30-45 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE 50% WORN. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE VEHICLE HAS YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000. ANOTHER BLEND DOOR FAILURE COMPLAINT. PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT AND NOT ONLY DOES IT AFFECT THE DEFROSTING ABILITY ON THAT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD, A PASSENGER HAS NO HEAT EITHER. BLOWS COLD AIR ALL THE TIME. CHRYSLER HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CHEAP PLASTIC PARTS USED TO MANUFACTURE THE UNITS BUT DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING AND FIXING THEM FOR FREE. MY JEEP HAD LESS THAN 50K ON IT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT. THEY ARE DESPICABLE. *TR

FUEL EMISSION CONTROL CANISTER TICKS AND SOUNDS LIKE A LIFTER TICK - GAS MILEAGE IS 11.3 MILES TO THE GALLON. STRONG GAS ODORS CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE THE TRUCK ONCE THE GAS TANK LEVEL REACHES THE 1/2 WAY MARK. DEALERSHIP APOLOGIZES BUT SAYS THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE TRUCK IS 3 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 4400 MILES ON IT. HELP I LOVE MY JEEP
MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED, GEN 3 SEAT BELT IN THE REAR, UNLASHED UNEXPECTEDLY. I HAVE TWO CHRYSLER CARS WITH THIS TYPE OF BELT. I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THEM KNOWING THE BELTS ARE POTENTIALLY UNSAFE. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN. PLEASE THESE RECALLED. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH ON EXPRESSWAY, FUEL LINE BECAME DETATCHED CAUSING ENGINE TO FAIL. FUEL LINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS NOT A RESULT OF ANY MECHANICAL DAMAGE. FAILURE OF FUEL LINE RESULTED IN A LARGE FUEL SPILL UNDERNEATH VEHICLE WHICH HAD BEEN DRIVEN FOR PAST 15 HOURS ON A TRIP FROM FLORIDA TO ILLINOIS. WE HAD A CONCERN THAT FUEL SPILL COULD HAVE IGNITED FROM HEATED COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE'S UNDERCARRIAGE. DT
MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HAS HAD THE ROTORS WARP THREE TIMES IN THE FIRST 38,000 MILES. THE FIRST OF WHICH OCCURRED AROUND 12,000 MILES THE SECOND AT 24,000 AND NOW AGAIN. THE SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS FINE EXCEPT FOR THE EXPENSE AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS UP. THE SERVICE MAN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT JEEP WAS USING AN INFERIOR PRODUCT FOR THE ROTORS, BUT THERE WAS NOT TO BE A RECALL EXPECTED. POOR DESIGN OF POWER WINDOW REGULATOR/MOTOR ASSEMBLY HAS LED TO MY LF WINDOW TO BREAK. I HAVE REVIEWED MANY RESOURCES ONLINE, AND FOUND THAT THESE JEEPS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE FAILURE OF THIS DEVICE CAUSED A MAJOR DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, LIKE MOST OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. JEEP/CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STOP PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK FOR SUCH A RIDICULOUS PROBLEM. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUR PRIOR WARNING. THE THOTTLE CABLE BECAME DISCONNECT FROM THE CABLE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
11-18-05 DRIVING MY CAR ON FREEWAY, HEARD A "POP" SOUND, THEN LOSS OF FLUIDS. DROVE OFF NEAREST EXIT TO NEARBY SERVICE CENTER. PLASTIC COOLING FAN BROKE APART SENDING PIECES INTO THE FRONT OF THE RADIATOR, CUTTING AND SPLICING IT. THE ENTIRE CASING/SHROUD OF THE FAN WAS CRACKED ON THE BOTTOM AND TOP, AS WELL AS SEVERAL BLADES OF THE FAN BROKEN OUT. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO COVER THE DAMAGE STATING IT IS PAST THE WARRANTY TIME OF 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES!!! I NOW HAVE TP SPEND $1200 TO FIX AS WELL AS RENTAL CAR FOR 1 WEEK WHILE THEY WERE "EVALUATING" THE SITUATION. HEEEELLLLP!! *JB
ROTOR NEEDS REPLACING EVERY 7 MONTHS. IMPROPER ROTOR WAS PUT ON THE VEHICLE TO START WITH. I CAN PAY TO HAVE THE PROPER ONE PUT ON NOW. THE CHEROKEE SHAKES ALL OVER WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES AND IS MORE DIFFICULT TO STOP. I HAVE HAD A DIFFERENT ROTOR PUT ON TWICE AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT REPAIR IT AGAIN.
2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (WJ), ELECTRICAL WIRES MELTING AT BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER (RESISTOR BLOCK) FOR HEATER /AC INTERIOR FAN. FIRE HAZARD AS THIS CIRCUIT IS HOT EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF. POOR CONTACT BETWEEN THE WIRE FEMALE SPADE CONNECTOR AND THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER MALE SPADE TERMINAL CAUSED EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH RESULTED IN THE WIRES BEING CHARRED AND THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROLLER HOUSING MELTING. DEVICE IS LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I AM ORDERING A HARNESS AND HEATER RESISTOR TO REMEDY THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. WHILE MY CAR DID NOT CATCH ON FIRE, THIS IS CLEARLY A FIRE HAZARD THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
NAR 03/17/2003 THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO REVERSE WITH OUT ANY NOTICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS ON THE DOOR AND THE TRANSMISSION BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE CHRYSLER REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT THAT RESULTED IN MOVEMENT FROM PARK TO REVERSE SHIFT. CONSUMER IS VERY DISCOURAGE AND WANTS FURTHER INVESTIGATION DONE. *CB *JB

NAR 03/05/2003 THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PROBLEM WITH THE TAIL GATE. ON MODERATE OCCASIONS HARD ACCELERATION WOULD OCCUR. *CB
IF I ACCELERATE MODERATELY HARD AND RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL. THE PEDAL CONTINUES TO REMAIN DEPRESSED AND THE CAR CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE- ALMOST AS THOUGH THE CRUISE CONTROL'S RESUME FEATURE IS SELECTED, BUT IT ISN'T. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO FIND AND DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM ONCE, BUT THEIR REPAIR (REPLACING A LEAKING CRUISE CONTROL SERVO) WAS NOT EFFECTIVE AS THE VEHICLE IS DOING THIS AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS SPORADIC AND DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL OF THE TIME. DT
CONCERN REGARDING SAFETY OF BRAKES, SHAKE VERY NOTICEABLY WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. REPLACED FRONT ROTORS AND CALIPERS. *BF THERE WAS CONTINUING UNRESOLVED BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE STEERING WOULD ALSO SHAKE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE SHAKING AND PULSATION PROBLEM WORSENED, THE CD CHANGER HAD AN INTERNAL FAULT, THERE WAS A FAULT IN THE TRANSMISSION GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR, THE TRANSMISSION LEAKED FROM THE T CASSE ADAPTER SEALS, THE FRONT PCV VALVE LEAKED AT THE FRONT GROMMET ON THE VALVE COVER, THE FRONT BODY SEAL WAS LOOSE, THERE WAS A WHINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN UP HILL AND UPON ACCELERATION, AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND. *SC *TC
THE VEHICLE'S FRONT ROTORS AND PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 11,000 MILES. *NM AFTER NUMEROUS VISITS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THE CONSUMER WAS CHARGED. THE VEHICLE WIPER BLADE WERE NOISY AND SKIPPED, THE DEALER REPLACED THE LEFT WIPER BLADE. *TC *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING HEARD A LOUD NOISE, PULLED OVER THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. ORGINIAL EQUIPMENT. TS TIRE SIZE 225/75R16 AND DOT#M671EKWR1601. *YH
PUT CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK UP. CAR ACCELERATED AT HIGH SPEED (40-60 MPH) WITHOUT PUTTING FOOT ON ACCELERATOR. UNABLE TO STOP CAR DESPITE BRAKING AND PUTTING CAR INTO PARK. HIT TREES MAILBOX AND HOUSE BEFORE COMING TO A STOP IN A DITCH. CAR INVESTIGATED BY DAIMLER-CHRYSLER NO DEFECT FOUND. DT
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE VEERS TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER STATED THE ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *PH
CAR VIBRATES WHEN BRAKES APPLIED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IS ALSO CAUSING UNEVEN FEATHERING/WEAR ON FRONT TIRES. I CONTACTED MURPHY MOTOR SERVICE DEPT AND WAS ADVISED THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS THE CALIPER WARP IN THIS MODEL OF CHEROKEE AND BOTH THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS AS YET BUT PARTS ARE BACKED ORDERED COUNTRY WIDE 6000 PARTS IN ALL. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO GET THIS PART AVAILABE NOW TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE OR ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS FAILURE. I HAVE BEEN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL OF JEEP AND SINCE 1995 THEY HAVE HAD REPEATED BRAKE PROBLEMS WHICH GO UNADDRESSED AND COSTING OWNERS A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX OR GET TO THE PROBLEMS. CHRYSLER OBVIOUSLY IS NOT RESPONDING DELIBERTLY. SOMEONE NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVER THE PAST 7 YEARS AND FIND OUT WHY THEY CAN NOT BE FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I WAS TOLD THE FLUID IN THE FRONT AXLE WAS NOT FULL. I WENT TO ANOTHER JEEP DEALERS, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND SHOWED THEM THE REPORT. IT WAS RESOLVED AND THERE WERE NO FUTHER ISSUES WITH THE AXLE. SOUTHVIEW CHEV. IS NOW DEFUNCT AFTER THE OWNER CHEATED CLIENTS OUT OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. DRIVERS SEAT BROKE LOOSE FROM MOUNTING AND TILTED BACK ON ONE SIDE. MR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH, VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. CONSUMER COASTED TO A STOP. THERE WAS AN ORANGE GAUGE LIGHT THAT CAME ON. JEEP TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED IT WAS AN IGNITION COIL PROBLEM. *AK *SLC
WHILE TURNING AT ANY SPEED DRIVER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION NUMEROUS TIME, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE HOSE ONCE, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. HOWEVER, MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
