DRIVING ON HIGHWAY APPROX 40-60 MPH AND COLLIDED WITH VEHICLE. THE FRONT END OUR OF OURS AND THE REAR END OF THERE VEHICLE WERE DESTROYED. NONE OF OUR AIR BAGS POPPED OUT AND THE COMPANY IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECTS. OUR VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BEFORE THE COMPANY SENT OUT THEIR REPRESENTATIVE CAME TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG DUH THE VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED. WE ARE NOW SUFFERING ANXIETY, PANIC ATTACKS AND DEPRESSION FROM THIS ACCIDENT THAT HAD OUR 1 YEAR OLD INVOLVED. *NM
2004 GRAND CHEROKEE ELECTRICAL UNITS STOPPED WORKING. *TS WHILE DRIVING ON A HOT DAY THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT HE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE BCM. THE BCM WAS REPLACED. A WEEK LATER, ON ANOTHER HOT DAY, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN AGAIN BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. AS A RESULT THE A/C DID NOT WORK AND THE POWER WINDOWS COULD NOT BE ROLLED DOWN. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY WHILE PULLING INTO A GARAGE STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GE THE VEHICLE FIXED THE DEALER FOUND A BROKEN GROUND WIRE IN THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. AFTER NINE MONTHS THE PROBLEMS HAVE NOT RECURRED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE BROKEN GROUND WIRE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL SHUT DOWN AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JUNE OF 2006 FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V197000 (SEATS: FRONT ASSEMBLY: SEAT HEATER/COOLER). AS OF NOVEMBER 5, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THEY STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. *KB THE JEEP CHEROKEE DOES NOT BELONG TO THE COMPLAINANT. THE COMPLAINANT BUSINESS (CAR WASH) WAS DAMAGED BY ONE OF HIS PATRON'S JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHEN IT ACCELERATED SUDDENLY. *NM ***NAR*** REFERRED TO OCC. *AK
I LEASE A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH HEATED LEATHER SEATS. EARLIER THIS YEAR THE DRIVER SIDE HEATER WENT OUT THEN I NOTICED THAT JUST THE LOWER BACK HEATER CAME ON. ONE DAY IN FEBRUARY AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND 1/2 I GOT HOME AND TRIED TO TAKE OFF MY SWEATSHIRT BUT COULD NOT AS IT WAS MELTED TO MY CELL PHONE CASE. AT FIRST I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED THEN UPON LATER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED A BURN WHOLE IN MY CAR SEAT THAT RAN UP WHAT WAS APPARENTLY THE HEATER WIRE. I AM A PARAPLEGIC AND IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE CELL PHONE CASE I COULD HAVE BEEN BURNED. MY CONCERN IS FOR OTHERS LIKE ME AND DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE HEAT WHICH COULD MELT A SWEAT SHIRT AND A PHONE CASE THAT IT POTENTIALLY COULD IGNITE CLOTHING. *JB
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND. HAD TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS AFTER ONLY 14717 MILES. OWNED 2 JEEPS PREVIOUSLY AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WITH THE VEHICLE STILL IN PARK. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DID NOT MOVE AND THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. UPDATED 3/17/2006 - THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE GAS PEDAL WAS HARD/STICKING ON COLD START UP. THE TECHNICIAN REMOVED THE THROTTLE AND CLEANED IT AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. *NM
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE PULSATING WHILE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. MECHANIC DETERMINED THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *KB *NM
PASSENGER FRONT HEATED SEAT BURNED THROUGH THE SEAT COVER IN THE 2004 GRAND CHEROKEE. *TS THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT AN ELEMENT HAD SHORTED OUT INTERNALLY CAUSING THE FAILURE AND DAMAGE TO THE SEAT CUSHION. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. ON 3/20/006 THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEATED SEAT BURNED A 1/2 INCH HOLE IN THE SEAT CUSHION. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SEAT AND THE DRIVER'S CLOTHING AND WELL AS A SLIGHT DISCOLORATION OF THE SKIN ON HIS BUTTOCKS. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER. *NM
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FREEDOM EDITION TO WORK AT 6:20 AM. A VEHICLE APPROACHING HER (TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM WHERE SHE WAS TRAVELING) LOST A TIRE. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT AROUND 60 MILES AN HOUR AND THE OTHER DRIVER SAID HE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT THE SAME. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE CAME OFF AND STRUCK THE JEEP IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE PLASTIC COVER SHATTERED, FOAM UNDERLAY CRUSHED AND BROKE AWAY, AND THE STEEL BUMPER WAS SMASHED. HOWEVER, THE FRONTAL IMPACT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE OPENING THE DRIVER DOOR SMOKE WAS NOTICED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE FIRE MARSHAL FILED A REPORT AND DETERMINED THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SEAT HEATER. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE ALERTED.
2004 GRAND CHEROKEE ROLLED BACKWARDS WHILE THE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN PARK. THE CONSUMER THINK THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TS WHEN THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS THE DRIVER'S DOOR CRASHED INTO THE MIDDLE SECTION OF THE CONSUMER'S GARAGE DOORS. THE DRIVER'S DOOR BUCKLED AND THE WINDOW SHATTERED. *NM
IN FEBRUARY 2004 I PURCHASED A NEW 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AT SPEED MOTORS (AUTHORIZED JEEP DEALER) IN BROOKLYN NEW YORK. AT 7000 MILES THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE BREAKS BECAUSE THE DISKS HAD WARPED. WHEN I OPERATED THE JEEP AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND APPLIED THE BREAKS THE FRONT END WOULD VIOLENTLY SHAKE. AT ABOUT 14,000 MILES I RETURNED THE JEEP TO THE SAME DEALER WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT ABOUT VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE FRONT END. HE AGAIN REPLACED THE BRAKES IN THE FRONT. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE JEEP BACK TO SPEED MOTORS AT LEAST FIVE TIMES WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT SPEED MOTORS LOST IT'S BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP WITH JEEP/CHRYSLER AND CAN NO LONGER SERVICE MY JEEP. I AGAIN ENCOUNTER THE VIOLENT SHAKING WITH THE FRONT END AND TOOK THE CAR TO BAYRIDGE JEEP IN BROOKLYN NEW YORK. I DROPPED THE JEEP OFF AND LATER THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLS ME AT HOME TO EXPLAIN THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BREAKS AND DISKS MUST BE REPLACED. THE SERVICES MANAGER THAN EXPLAINS TO ME THAT THIS WILL COST AROUND $875.00. I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. HE EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. I PAID FOR THE REPAIRS AT AN AUTHORIZED JEEP DEALER TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE WARRANTY AND TO MAKE A RECORD OF THE BREAK PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I CALL THE CUSTOMER SERVICES TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR CHRYSLER AND SPOKE TO A FEMALE OPERATOR WHO THAN PAST ME ON TO HER MALE SUPERVISOR. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE MALE OPERATOR ABOUT HOW AND WHY AN AUTHORIZED JEEP DEALER COULD PUT A NEW YORK STATE INSPECTION STRIKER ON MY CAR WITH A CLEAR MIND KNOWING THAT THERE ARE MAJOR BREAK PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE HE BLEW ME OFF AGAIN. I WANT TO GO ON RECORD AS SAYING THAT THERE ARE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. THE DATE BELOW OF 1-23 -06 IS THE DATE I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BAYRIDGE JEEP. THE DATE OF INCIDENT IS THE PERIOD FROM TIME OF PURCHASE TO 1-23-06. I FULLY EXPECT THIS CURRENT BREAK REPLACEMENT TO ONLY LAST A FEW THOUSAND MILES. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HIS 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (24303 FAILURE MILEAGE) THE FRONT TIRES KEEP LOOSING AIR. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT TIRES WERE FINE, BUT THE RIMS WERE CORRODED. THE TWO FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SAME DEFLATING HAPPENED TO THE REAR TIRES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000. AIR WAS LEAKING AROUND THE BEAD. UPDATED 06/06/07. *JB
5/25/05 THE JEEP WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND RUNNING WITHOUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON, WITH THE BOYS INSIDE. WE WERE HURRYING THEM TO SCHOOL. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND DRY. I RAN BACK INTO THE HOUSE, WHICH TOOK LESS THAN 3 MINUTES, TO GET BETSY TO HURRY UP. WHEN I WAS HEADING BACK TO THE CAR THE BOYS WERE YELLING . THE CAR WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS AND ROLLED INTO THE BRICK RETAINING WALL AROUND THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN I GOT TO THE CAR THE GEAR SHIFT WAS SLIGHTLY OUT OF PARK. OVER $1500 IN DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE CAR. A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH INSURANCE COMPANY. I ASSUMED THE FAULT WAS MINE DUE TO BEING IN A HURRY. 1/17/06 I WAS MOVING CARS AROUND THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD THE JEEP PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, THE CAR WAS IN PARK WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND DRY. I HAD THE DRIVER'S DOOR OPEN, BECAUSE I WAS ONLY GOING INTO THE GARAGE FOR A SECOND. I HAPPENED TO TURN TOWARDS THE JEEP AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS. I RAN TO THE JEEP, INTENDING TO STOP IT BY PUTTING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. WHEN I JUMPED INTO THE JEEP I LOOKED DOWN AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE WAS ALREADY ON, AND THAT THE CAR APPEARED TO BE FULLY IN PARK. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE CAR THIS TIME. I CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER THAT AFTERNOON TO TELL THEM OF MY STORY. I WAS TOLD THAT SOMEONE WOULD BE CONTACTING ME SOON TO LOOK AT THE CAR, AND NOT TO HAVE ANY WORK DONE ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE PERSON WAS ABLE TO LOOK AT THE JEEP. 1/18/06 MR. W CONTACTED ME TO MEET TO LOOK AT THE CAR. 1/19/06 MET MR. W AT BERGLUND JEEP AT NOON; HE SPENT ONE HOUR LOOKING THE CAR OVER. HE SAID THAT HE WAS NOT ALLOWED TO TELL ME ANYTHING , AND THAT CHRYSLER WOULD BE CONTACTING ME. HE DID STATE TO ME THAT I SHOULD KEEP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON THE CAR, AND TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. *JB *AK *NM
SUBMISSION IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED WITH 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AFTER A SAFETY RECALL SERVICE AT THE BAYSIDE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE DEALERSHIP CERTIFIED MAIL. *TS *JB
2004 GRAND CHEROKEE LEFT WHEEL CAME OFF. *TS THE LUG NUTS HAD BROKEN OFF. THE CONSUMER STATED ON 12-28-05 THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN AUGUST OF 2004. WITHIN THE FIRST 7000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS DUE TO WARPING. DAIMLER/CHRYSLER COVERED THIS SERVICE AND REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY. WITHIN THE NEXT 7000 MILES THEY HAD WARPED AGAIN. DAIMLER CHRYSLER WOULD NOT COVER THEM THIS TIME. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR AFTERMARKET ROTORS AND PADS WHICH WERE A BETTER QUALITY THAN WHAT DAIMLER/CHRYSLER USED THE FIRST TIME. THESE ROTORS AND PADS HAVE LASTED ABOUT 12000 MILES AND HAVE WARPED AGAIN. I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT SOMEONE BUYING A JEEP PRODUCT WOULD THINK THAT THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THEIR FRONT ROTORS AND PADS CLOSE TO TWICE PER YEAR. I HAVE LEARNED TO LIVE WITH THE SHAKE THAT OCCURS DUE TO THE WARPING HOWEVER WHEN EXITING A HIGHWAY AND DECELERATING FROM HIGH SPEEDS THE SHAKE IS UNBEARABLE. I NEVER EXPECTED TO HAVE TO REPLACE MY FRONT ROTORS AND PADS SO FREQUENTLY. ON MY LAST VEHICLE WHICH WASD A FORD I REPLACED THEM EVERY 24000 MILES. I AM AWARE THAT JEEP REPLACED THE FRONT CALIPERS ON THEIR 1999 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE THAT THEY ISSUE A RECALL FOR THESE CALIPERS SOON BEFORE I AM BROKE FROM REPAIRING MY FRONT BRAKES. THANK YOU FOR TAKING MY COMPLAINT. *NM
AC/HEATER MAKES NOISE WHEN MOTOR IS SHUT OFF. AC/HEATER BLOWS COLD AIR REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE SETTING. *TR
SEVERAL 1999-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES THAT I HAVE OWNED (I HAVE HAD 4) HAD THEIR BLENDER DOORS MALFUNCTION. THIS RESULTS IN A $1600 FEE TO HAVE THE HEAT/COOLING VENTS REPAIRED SO YOU CAN GET AC OR HEAT. IT IS A CHRONIC JEEP PROBLEM THAT DESERVES A RECALL AS IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE'S JEEPS IT SEEMS. I HAVE A CURRENT 2004 MODEL WHERE ALL THREE SEPARATE BLENDER DOORS ARE BROKEN RESULTING IN NO HEAT OR COOLING. *TR
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH HEATED SEAT ISSUE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE HEATED SEAT PROBLEM. SHE ALSO STATES THAT THERE IS A WIRE OR ROD POKING THROUGH THE DRIVER SEAT. *KB THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING, THE BLEND DOORS IN THE HEATING SYSTEM, THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN IN TO THE DOOR PANEL, AND THE HOOD STRUTS FAILED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE HEATED SEAT ISSUE HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB

DURING WINTER MONTHS, HEAT SHUTS OFF AND TURNS COLD. THIS HAPPENED DURING A SNOWSTORM AND I COULD NOT DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD. I CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAD TO STOP ENGINE, WAIT 5 MINUTES AND START ENGINE AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN. IN THE SUMMER MONTHS, THE REVERSE HAPPENS. SUDDENLY, THE AIR CONDITIONER SUDDENLY THROWS OUT HOT AIR. *TR
I AM REPORTING THE SECOND INSTANCE OF FRONT BRAKE ROTOR WARPING ON MY 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHICH HAS ~27,000 MILES. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS AT ABOUT 15,000 MILES. ON BRAKING AT SPEEDS OF >35 MPH (EVEN NORMAL BRAKING - NOT EMERGENCY BRAKING), THERE IS AN EXCESSIVE FRONT END SHIMMY AND CHATTER THAT SEEMS DANGEROUS. IT SEEMED VERY UNUSUAL THAT THE FRONT ROTORS HAD WARPED AT 15,000 MILES, BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT BRAKES WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE JEEP WARRANTY SO WE PAID FOR TURNING THEM. NOW THE FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED AGAIN AND WILL REQUIRE SERVICE. THE DEALER AGAIN SAYS THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR TURNING THEM AGAIN OR REPLACING THEM. WE DO NOT PULL ANYTHING WITH THE VEHICLE AND RARELY USE THE BRAKES FOR ANYTHING BUT ROUTINE STOPPING, SO THE ROTORS SHOULD NOT WARP SO FREQUENTLY. CLEARLY THERE ARE DESIGN PROBLEMS WITH THIS THAT COULD CREATE AN UNSAFE SITUATION WHEN BRAKING IF I WERE NOT TO HAVE THE ROTORS FIXED SO FREQUENTLY. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE STEERING WHEEL WERE NOT GRIPPED TIGHTLY DURING BRAKING THE VEHICLE COULD EASILY GO OUT OF CONTROL. *JB
THE FIRST TIME THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO MY DOOR AND IT COST $200 TO FIX IT, THE SECOND TIME THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY PAID HALF BUT BECAUSE OF LABOR COST I STILL PAID $200, THE THIRD TIME WAS THE BACK DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND NOW JEEP REFUSES TO PAY. *JB

THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT IN USE WHEN THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK UPDATED 01/25/06. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND STATED THAT THE DEALER HAD NOT PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIRS FOR THE VEHICLE HEAT SEAT ELEMENT. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN DEALING WITH THE DEALER FOR OVER A YEAR IN A HALF, AND THEY HAD TOLD HER THAT THERE WERE NO ANY PARTS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW WHAT STEPS TO TAKE . DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS PULSATING. THERE WAS 15,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND CUT THE ROTORS. AT 20,600 MILES THE PULSATION RETURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. *AK

THE HEAT WILL SUDDENLY CEASE AND THE VISIBILITY WILL BE LOST OUT THE WINDSHIELD. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH "BLEND DOOR". THE ROTORS ON MY 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ARE DEFECTIVE. AT 31,000 MILES, I FELT A PULSING WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE DEALER INSPECTED MY BRAKES AND SAID THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED 0.4. I DO NOT USE BRAKES HEAVILY. THE PADS STILL HAVE 3/8"(I HAVE THE OLD PADS) REMAINING AFTER 31,000 MILES. WHEN I HAD THE ROTORS TURNED I ASKED THE MECHANIC IF THIS WAS UNUSUAL AND HIS COMMENT WAS, "CHRYSLER KEEPS HIM VERY BUSY. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT HE HAD TO TURN THEM DOWN TO THE MINIMUM ALLOWED, SO IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN I WILL HAVE TO BUY NEW ROTORS. I REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS, TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. WHEN I WAS BLEEDING THE BRAKE LINES, I NOTICED THE CALIPER TWISTED THE ROTOR INWARD WHEN BRAKING PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. I AM 62 AND THIS IS MY FIRST CHRYSLER CAR. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED ON ANY OF MY PREVIOUS CARS, WHICH BEFORE THIS JEEP WERE ALL GM CARS. THIS IS A LITTLE OUTOF YOUR NORMAL SCHOPE; HOWEVER, I THINK THE POTENTIAL IS CLEAR. OUR 2004 JEEP WAS REARENDED AND THE FUEL TANK WAS INVOLVED. THE PLASTIC TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED. OUR INSURER, STATE FARM REFUSED TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW TANK, INSTEAD INSISTING ON USING A USED TANK FROM WRECKED JEEP. THE TANK RECIEVED NO TESTING OTHER THAN A VISUAL FROM THE JUNK YARD. AFTER ONLY 9,000 MILES THE ROTORS WERE SO WARPED THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I REPLACED THE ROTORS. 10,000 MILES LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. NO ONE WOULD "OFFICIALLY" ADMIT THAT THE ROTORS AND OR THE CALIPERS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE V8 VERSION OF THE JEEP. I HAVE REPLACED THE ROTORS WITH AFTERMARKET SLOTTED AND VENTED ROTORS 3 MORE TIMES AT A SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE TO ME. THE DANGEROUS PART OF THIS IS IT WARPS QUICKLY AND CAUSES THE CAR TO BE HARD TO CONTROL WHILE BREAKING: NOT A GOOD SITUATION. AT 17,000 MILES MY 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO FREEDOM V-8 4.7 HO ENGINE DEVELOPED A ROUGH IDLE. THE DEALER CLEANED OUT THE FUEL INJECTOR AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT GO AWAY. 2ND TIME THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE #2 PISTON POPPED IN AND OUT SO THE MECHANICS AGREED SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND RECOMMENDED A NEW ENGINE; BUT THE MANAGER WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THEY AGREE THE VEHICLE RUNS ROUGH AND NOTICE THE VEHICLES ON THE LOT RUN SMOOTH. THEY SUGGESTED I CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS WHICH COST ME OVER $200.00 AND THAT DID NOT HELP. THE DEALER DID CHANGE THE OIL PUMP AND PUT IN 8 NEW LIFTERS. THIS STILL DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE DISTRICT MANAGER STATED ALL THE JEEPS RUN THAT WAY. HE AND THE MANAGER ABOVE HIM BOTH STATE THEY WILL DO NOTHING FOR ME AND THEY ARE CLOSING THE BOOK. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. SOME HAVE A ROUGH IDLE AND SOME RUN VERY SMOOTH. OTHER RELIABLE PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THE PROBLEM IS THE COMPUTER. WHEN I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER HE SAID TO PUT THE ENGINE IN LOW AND IT WILL JUMP THE COMPUTER INTO SHAPE. THE IDLE IS GETTING WORSE AND HAS AFFECTED MY GAS MILEAGE. I AM STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND AM GETTING NO WHERE WITH JEEP OR CHRYSLER. I NOW HAVE OVER 31,000 MILES AND AM NEARING THE END OF MY WARRANTY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE COMPUTER JUST DIES. 1. EXCEPTIONALLY HARD DOWNSHIFT UNDER ACCELERATION. 2. UNDER LIGHT OR MODERATE ACCELERATION, WOULD START IN 2ND GEAR. POSSIBLE TO MOVE SELECTOR TO 1ST GEAR. 3. AT FULL STOP WOULD HUNT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. UNINTENDED FORWARD MOVEMENT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. IN ONE INSTANCE PEDESTRIAN WALKED IN FRONT OF VEHICLE WHEN THIS UNINTENDED MOVEMENT OCCURRED NEARLY PINNING PEDESTRIAN BETWEEN 2 VEHICLES 4. UNDER ACCELERATION JEEP VEHICLE SEEMED TO GO OUT OF GEAR AND INTO NEUTRAL AT ABOUT 60 TO 65 MPH. LOSS OF FORWARD MOMENTUM AND FUEL SHUT OFF OCCURRED . THE TRANSMISSION RESUMED ACCELERATION BUT WITH VERY DELIBERATE AND EXTENDED GEAR SELECTION. WHILE ACCELERATING TO PASS A SEMI ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY WITH LONG UPHILL GRADE I GOT ALONGSIDE THE SEMI AND COULD SEE THE DRIVERS DOOR IN MY PERIPHERAL VISION. THE JEEP VEHICLE KICKED INTO NEUTRAL , THE FUEL SHUT OFF OCCURRED AND I LOST ENOUGH FORWARD MOMENTUM TO NOT COMPLETE THE PASS SAFELY. ANOTHER VEHICLE APPEARED OVER THE CREST OF THE HILL SOME DISTANCE AWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE HARD ENOUGH TO GET BACK IN LINE WITH THE SEMI. A HEAD ON COLLISION WAS AVERTED. WHILE TRAVELING ON A FEDERAL HIGHWAY IN COLORADO WITH A LONG GRADUAL UPHILL GRADE AND CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 65 THE JEEP VEHICLE SELECTED NEUTRAL CAUSING RAPID INCREASE IN RPM TO FUEL SHUTOFF POINT AND LOSS OF FORWARD MOMENTUM TO ABOUT 35 OR 40 MPH. AFTER TRANSMISSION RETURNED TO A GEAR I WAS ABLE TO RESUME TRAVEL AND CLICK THE CRUISE BACK ON. THIS TYPE OCCURRENCE BECAME FREQUENT. JEEP VEHICLE SVC TECH DROVE VEHICLE OVER 160 MILES AND WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE OCCURRENCE. THE BANDS WERE TIGHTENED AND VARIOUS OTHER LITTLE FIXES. JEEP VEHICLE NOW SELECTS 1ST GEAR TO START. JEEP VEHICLE NO LONGER HUNTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND. JEP VEHICLE HAS STARTED TO KICK INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN. REPAIRS STARTED AT ABOUT 5 OR 6000 MILES AND HAVE NOW TOTALED 6 ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THIS UNSAFE (IN MY OPINION) VARIETY OF COMPLAINTS ALL CENTERED ON MALFUNCTIONS IN (APPARENTLY) THE TRANSMISSION. *JB
