2004 GRAND CHEROKEE BEGAN PULSATING AND VIBRATING MAKE IT HARD TO KEEP STEERING WHEEL STEADY. *TS THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED. THIS ALLEVIATED THE VIBRATION TEMPORARILY. NEXT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD ABOUT A BRAKE RECALL FRO THE 2004 JEEP. THE CONCERN WAS THEN TOLD THE SEND COPIES OF INVOICES ALONG WITH CANCELLED CHECK TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER ONLY PROVIDED THE CONSUMER WITH A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT. *NM
DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM IS AND HAS FAILED AND MAKING NOISE WHILE ON, THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG BUT NOTES THERE IS NOISE IN THE SYSTEM. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACTED STATED THAT THE STEERING FELT STIFF WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR BOX. THE ODOMETER READING WAS 30000 AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING STIFFNESS, AND HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK. T THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES DUE TO WARPED BRAKE ROTORS. HE HAD THEM REPAIRED, HOWEVER, HE CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS.*AK
CONSUMER REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR BRAKE REPAIRS DONE ON A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. *KB THE VEHICLE HAD CONSISTENT VIBRATION WHILE BRAKING SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE. ON JULY 15, 2006 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DID A BRAKE INSPECTION AND SUGGESTED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER AGREED TO THE REPAIRS BUT ANT NO POINT DID ANYONE A THE DEALER MENTION A BRAKE DEFECT THAT WAS BEING ADDRESSED THROUGH A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. ON JULY 26 THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER IN REFERENCING THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT WHICH PROVIDED A FREE BRAKE INSPECTION CERTIFICATE. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE REPAIRS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID BY THE MANUFACTURER UNDER THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. *NM UPDATED*JB
PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS - THEY ARE WARPING EVERY 8,000 MILES THE VEHICLE IS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH ONLY 25,500 MILES ON IT. *NM
THE SIDE WALLS ON ALL THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST TIRES ON MY JEEP HAVE DRY ROT. WHILE DRIVING ON A INTERSTATE, LATE AT NIGHT, ONE OF THE TIRES BLOW THROUGH THE SIDE WALL. DUE TO A SLOW LEAK IN ONE OF THE OTHER TIRES IN THE AREA OF THE SIDE WALL, SULLIVAN TIRE, A LOCAL GOODYEAR TIRE DEALER, INSPECTED THE TIRES AND ADVISED ME THAT ALL THE TIRES HAD SOME DEGREE OF DRY ROT IN THE VICINITY OF THE SIDE WALL (A POSSIBLE QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEM) AND THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED. SULLIVAN TIRE IS CONTACTING GOODYEAR FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON THE REPLACEMENTS. *NM
I WAS LOADING A CAR HAULER SEMI TRUCK, BACKING A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVER MY CAB. JUST AS SOON AS I HAD THE UNIT WHERE IT NEEDED TO BE AND BEFORE I COULD GET IT IN PARK IT ACCELERATED IN REVERSE. THE CONSEQUENCE WAS IT CRASHED TO THE GROUND AND ROLLED ONTO IT'S RIGHT SIDE WITH ME STILL IN IT. I WASN'T SERIOUSLY HURT, BUT I DID LOOSE MY JOB OVER THE ACCIDENT. *NM
THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTION GOING TO THE RESISTOR PACK FOR THE BLOWER MOTOR CAN MELT AND DEFORM THE RESISTOR PACK AND WIRING CAUSING THE BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE A/C TO STOP WORKING. *NM
VEHICLE WAS BACKED INTO CAMPGROUND SPOT AND STOPPED. I GOT OUT OF THE BACK SEAT, LEAVING THE BACK DOOR OPEN, AND STOOD BEHIND THE VEHICLE. WIFE WAS SHIFTING FROM REVERSE INTO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN REVERSE AT FULL THROTTLE. WIFE WAS PUSHING BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET, BUT VEHICLE CONTINUED BACKWARDS, CATCHING REAR DOOR ON POWER POLE AND REMOVING DOOR AND JAMMING DRIVER DOOR SHUT. I LEAPED TO THE SIDE, THE VEHICLE BARELY MISSING ME, VEHICLE CONTINUED ABOUT 100 FEET INTO A FIELD, THEN STOPPED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD WITHOUT EFFORT. IN ALL INCIDENCES THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THIS WAS THE SECOND OCCURANCE UNDER THE SAME CONDITION.
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. *KB WHINE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE BUMPED THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN FRONT OF HIM. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED. *NM
INTERIOR LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING ON 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. RIVER OAKS JEEP REPLACED RIGHT FRONT DOOR HARNESS JUNE 13, 2006. SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AND WIRE IN FRONT DOOR POST HARNESS REPAIRED BY CHUCK NASH JEEP IN SAN MARCOS JANUARY 13, 2009. SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AND REPAIRED BY BLUEBONNET JEEP IN NEW BRAUNFELS AUGUST 20, 2010. THE WIRES IN THE HARNESS ARE TOO SHORT AND BREAK WITH THE ACTION OF THE DOOR. WAS TOLD BY BLUEBONNET THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT CHRYSLER JEEP REFUSES TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD. I SPOKE WITH A CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THIS AND ANOTHER PROBLEM BUT SHE SEEMED UNCONCERNED. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWED MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH ON DRY ROADS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER WHILE DRESSING THE BRAKES. THE SHUDDERING STOPPED WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHED 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE PADS.
SHIFTS OUT PARK WITH OUT MOTOR RUNNING; AND EVEN WITHOUT PRESSING ON BRAKE PEDAL. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CAN BE SHIFTED OUT PARK BY PULLING IT BACK TO EITHER REVERSE OR NEUTRAL OR DRIVE; WITHOUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIED MY JEEP ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET; DID NOT HIT ANYTHING; DEALERSHIP HAS HAD VEHICLE TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT; THIS WILL BE THE 3RD TIME IT HAS GONE IN FOR THE SHIFTER PROBLEM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. THIS OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING DURING NORMAL BRAKING ON NORMAL ROADS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED HOWEVER NO INSPECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED. UPDATED 06/19/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRE TREAD WAS WORN TO 3/64 ON ALL FOUR TIRES AFTER ONLY 10,000 OF USE. THE TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED BY THE SERVICE DEALER AND PROPER PRESSURE HAD BEEN MAINTAINED. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTICED BY THE CONTACT WHO TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE WEAR AND RECOMMEND TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE TIRE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TIRE DEALER WHO WAS ALSO UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE WEAR, BUT RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TIRES. UPDATED 7/5/2006 - *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND TURNED TWICE APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES APART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AGAIN, WHICH IS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULSATE AND VIBRATE WHEN BRAKING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,779 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,591.
FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED. HAD THEM REPLACED BY THE DEALER AT 14,591 MILES AND RESURFACED (TURNED) AT 22,214 MILES. BOTH TIMES UNDER WARRANTY. I CURRENTLY HAVE 29,779 MILES ON THE JEEP AND THE ROTORS ARE CAUSING THE BRAKES TO, ONCE AGAIN, PULSATE EVERY TIME I APPLY THEM. IT'S NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. IF I HAVE TO HAVE THEM REPLACED OR RESURFACED EVERY 8000 MILES... THIS IS GOING ADD UP. IF I CONTINUE TO USE THEM IN DISREPAIR, I THINK THIS MAY BE DANGEROUS. IT FEELS DANGEROUS. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO FIND A PERMANENT "FIX" FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I LEASED A BRAND NEW 2004 SPECIAL EDITION JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN DECEMBER OF 2003. AT APPROXIMATELY 25,000 MILES OF NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE FRONT END BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. AFTER REVIEWING THE MY CAR STATS WEBSITE I QUESTIONED WHETHER IT COULD BE A ROTOR PROBLEM. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TURNED THE ROTORS, REPORTING THEY WERE BADLY WARPED. THEY ALSO ENSURED ME THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND WAS WIDELY KNOWN TO BE A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ISSUE. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT ROTORS SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER THAN 25,000 MILES. I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER $100 TO CORRECT AN ISSUE THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW. I ALSO DO NOT INTEND TO KEEP THE VEHICLE BEYOND THE TERM OF THE LEASE AS I DO NOT WANT TO INVEST $400-$500 EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS. FOR ANYONE OUT THERE CONSIDERING A DAIMLER CHRYSLER PRODUCT, THINK TWICE BEFORE SIGNING ON THE DOTTED LINE. *JB
I OWN A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH ONLY 16000 MILES. AT 12600 MILE I HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS WHERE THE JEEP WHO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED TO THE POINT WHERE SOMEONE MIGHT LOOSE CONTROL OF THE JEEP CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING IN A POSSIBLE DEATH. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACE AND THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AFTER 12000 MILES SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $400 WHICH I REFUSED TO DO. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY PERSONNEL MECHANIC AND HAD THE ROTORS TURNED AND NEW PADS FOR AROUND $100. NOW WITH 16000 IT NEEDS TO BE DONE AGAIN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. ITS NOT RIGHT THAT EVERY 3-5000 MILES I NEED BRAKES! I WAS TOLD THAT ITS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ROTORS THROUGH DESIGN TOE IN WHEN APPLIED CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE PADS AND ROTORS. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! I WILL FILE WITH THE BBB HERE IN MA. AND THE ATT. GEN BUT I'M HOPING THAT YOU CAN ASSIST ALSO. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT SHE LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE WEATHER STRIPPING WAS RUSTING ON ALL FOUR WINDOWS AND DOORS. THE DEALER COULD NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED AND COULD NOT BE MADE UNDER WARRANTY. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. I PURCHASED A USED 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN JANUARY OF 06. I HAVE HAD IT 3 1/2 MONTHS NOW AND ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO THE VEHICLE STARTED TO IDLE ROUGH WHEN I'D COME TO A RED LIGHT. THEN THE NEXT DAY I MY WIFE USED THE JEEP AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND IT FELT LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT I BLEW AN INJECTOR AND THE OTHER INJECTORS HAD CARBON BUILD UP IN THEM. MY JEEP ONLY HAS 27,00 MILES ON IT. THEY CHANGED THE INJECTOR AND THEN CLEANED THE OTHERS. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS SUPPOSE TO LEAVE SUNDAY MAY 14TH TO DRIVE TO NY FROM FLA. ON FRIDAY MAY 13TH THE JEEP STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. IT RAN WORSE THAN THE PREVIOUS TIME. I BROUGHT IT BACK AND STATED THAT IT IS WORSE AND I NEED THE PROBLEM CORRECTED ASAP BECAUSE I AM TRAVELING TO NY ON SUNDAY,2 DAYS LATER. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND CAME BACK AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE PCM IN THE VEHICLE. THEY SAID THAT THE CONTROL BOARD WAS BAD. NOW I AM PAYING FOR A LEASE CAR,I AM WITHOUT MY JEEP,AND WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE LEFT FOR NY ON SUNDAY. IT IS NOW MONDAY. I BELIEVE THAT WHEN YOU PURCHASE A VEHICLE THAT SAID VEHICLE SHOULD BE RELIABLE. MY JEEP ONLY HAS 27,000 MILES ON IT, IT SHOULDN'T HAVE A COMPUTER PROBLEM YET. THE DEALER IS SUPPOSEDLY FIXING THE SITUATION. BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING HERE,I MAY HAVE A ONGOING SITUATION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE, HE HEARD A LOUD CLANKING SOUND. THE DRIVER'S SEAT TRACK WAS FRACTURED AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE ELECTRIC SEAT FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000. *TR
PURCHASED NEW 2004 JEEP FROM DEALER. WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP, I BEGAN EXPERIENCING OCCASIONAL, INTERMITTENT ENGINE PROBLEMS AT START-UP-- THE ENGINE WOULD RUN VERY ROUGH, SHAKING THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE LIGHT IN THE DASH WOULD FLASH. IF DRIVEN, THE ENGINE WOULD STALL UNLESS THE ACCELERATOR WAS CONTINUALLY PRESSED. AFTER A FEW OF THESE EVENTS, WE DISCOVERED THAT, IF TURNED OFF, AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, THE ENGINE WOULD RUN NORMALLY. THE SERVICE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON FOR A FEW MINUTES (SOMETIMES A HALF HOUR) AND THEN TURN OFF. THIS PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, SOMETIMES EVERY MONTH, & SOMETIMES EVERY COUPLE MONTHS, USUALLY IN THE MORNING AT FIRST STARTUP, BUT SOMETIMES WHEN I LEFT WORK IN THE EVENING TO DRIVE HOME. MY SALESMAN AND THE SERVICE MANAGER KNEW OF THE PROBLEM. JEEP DEALER LATER SAID THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SIMPLY IN NEED OF A COMPLETE TUNE-UP. THEY DID THE TUNE UP 6 MONTHS AGO - MAY 2006. THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED AGAIN. I TOOK THE JEEP IN AGAIN. DEALER REPORTS THAT CAR IS "RUNNING ROUGH" BUT THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. *JB
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - HVAC SYSTEM EXHIBITS LOUD CREAKING/GROANING SOUNDS FROM DASH. ALSO SYSTEM EXHIBITS WIDELY FLUCTUATING TEMPERATURES. THE SYSTEM IS THE ELECTRONIC DUAL-ZONE CLIMATE CONTROL. DEALERS EXPLANATION "EVERYTHING IS FINE, THEY ALL DO THAT." *JB

WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE, THIS BEGAN ON MAY 1, 2007. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
THE DRIVER SIDE ELECTRIC SEAT FRAME BROKE IN 2006 AND I WAS TOLD I COULD BUY A NEW ONE BUT THEY ARE SO CHEAPLY MADE I HAD IT REPAIRED BY A EXPERIENCED WELDER WHO TOLD ME THE METAL WAS REALLY THIN AND CHEAPLY MADE.IT BROKE AGAIN IN 2008 IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION ON THE SAME SEAT AND I HAD IT REPAIRED.THEN IT BROKE AGAIN IN ANOTHER LOCATION ON SAME SEAT IN 2009.NOW TO START OFF JAN.2012 IT BROKE IN 2 PLACES OF THE SEAT FRAME AND I DON"T KNOW WHAT TO DO.IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SEAT AND I LOOKED ON LINE FOR A FEW MOMENTS AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME SEAT FROM 2004 AND DOWN A FEW YEARS. IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE ABOUT THIS SOMEONE COULD BE HURT OR KILLED. *TR
CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING. TRANSFER CASE WAS REPLACED TAKING ALMOST 2 WEEKS. ONLY 24,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. *JB
APRIL 21, 2006: I WAS PROCEEDING ON A GREEN LEFT TURN ARROW AND WAS HIT BY A FORD TAURUS RUNNING STOP LIGHT. HE VEERED AROUND MY FRONT END, TEARING OFF THE ENTIRE FRONT END AND PUSHING MY VEHICLE INTO THE ONCOMING LANES. I DID NOT SEE HIM COMING. I HEARD THE CRASH, THEN SAW A BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT. I HAD LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AND WAS AWAKENED BY A MAN KNOCKING ON MY WINDOW. THE SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I SMASHED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING HEAD AND CHEST TRAUMA, WAS RUSHED TO THE ER, SPENDING TWO DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL WITH A BRUISED HEART AND HEAD LACERATIONS. RECEIVED FULL BODY SCANS, X-RAYS, CARDIAC TESTING, DR BILLS ($30,000 AND STILL COUNTING). THE LEASE CAR IS TOTALED ($14,000 DAMAGE). I HAVE CONSTANT PAIN, BRUISING, HEADACHES, BLURRED VISION, MEMORY LOSS. I LOST MY NEW JOB AS A RESULT. FYI: ANOTHER JEEP CHEROKEE HIT THE WALL ON I-95, 5-21-06 AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS GONE. CURIOUS IF THAT SEAT BELT HELD? DID NOT SEE ANY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. CALLED 911 FROM MY CELL TO REPORT THE CRASH, 1/2 MILE SOUTH OF ATLANTIC BLVD EXIT (BROWARD COUNTY, FL). HOW MANY DEATHS ARE ACTUALLY CAUSED BY THE FAULTY SEAT BELTS? IF I HAD GOTTEN BROAD SIDED, I WOULD HAVE GONE RIGHT THROUGH MY SIDE WINDOW. I OWN A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAD TO PUT BRAKES ON IT MAY 30, 2005. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO PUT FOUR ADDITIONAL SETS OF BRAKES. THE LAST 4/25/06. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND DAIMLER/CHRYSLER BOTH AGREE THAT THE INITIAL BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE WERE NOT OF THE STANDARD, QUALITY AND DURABILITY NEEDED. THE LAST SET OF BRAKES WERE HEAVY DUTY AND OBVIOUSLY COST CONSIDERABLY MORE THAN REGULAR BRAKES. *JB

DRIVER SEAT PIVOT WHICH CONNECTS THE SEAT TRACK TO THE UPPER SEAT FRAME BREAKS / CRACKS UNDER NORMAL DRIVE CONDITIONS. I HAD TO REPLACE MY SEAT TRACK 3 TIMES WITH THE FIRST CRACK BEING WELDED AND CRACKING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS 159,000 MILES AND I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR

THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM DAIMLER/CHRYSLER CAME OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED AND DETERMINED THE FIRE WAS OF AN ELECTRICAL NATURE. THE CONTACT REPORTS HAVING NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT.

PURCHASED 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH ABOUT 11,000 MILES. BY 24,000 ROTORS ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF WARPING. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED STEERING WHEEL SHIVERS AND ALSO GET PEDAL FEEDBACK. THIS IS CAUSING AN UNSAFE DRIVING SITUATION AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING WITH A CAR WITH ONLY 24,000 MILES ON IT. *JB

I HAVE A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I BOUGHT THE ONE ON THE SHOW ROOM FLOOR WITH 46 MILES ON IT. IN ALL OF THE VEHICLES I HAVE PURCHASED OVER THE YEARS I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS. I JUST TOOK IT IN FOR THE 3RD TIME FOR BRAKES. I WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE BAD AGAIN! OF COURSE THE ROTORS WILL BE WARRANTY. HOWEVER I WAS CHARGED $90.00 LABOR FOR WARRANTY WORK, AGAIN. I TOLD THE DEALER TO GO PAST THE ROTORS THIS TIME AND CHECK THE PADS. THEY SAID THEY WERE WORN 20-30%, BUT I BROUGHT THE PARTS HOME AND MY HUSBAND SAID THEY WERE GONE! THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID "JEEP KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR BRAKES AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT"! I WAS GETTING 13 MPG AFTER 36,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD IF I GOT A TUNE UP IT WOULD BE BETTER. WELL, $300 LATER IT IS NOT BETTER! NOW I GET 12. 4 WD..I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR THE 4WD LOCKING UP. I WAS TOLD NOT TO USE THE PT 4WD. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN FT 4WD IN THE WINTER AND WENT TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE. IT LOCKED UP IN THE TURN AND WE CAME INCHES FROM HITTING A PARKED CAR. I JUST FOUND OUT IT IS A $1500/2 DAY REPAIR AND THAT IT HAPPENS "A LOT" - SO TO ME IF THIS IS A FAILURE THEY KNOW ABOUT FOR SEVERAL YEARS THEN I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FIX THIS MYSELF. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION FOR THE WEAR UNTIL THIS MOST RECENT VISIT, 3/16/06, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY AGGRESSIVE BRAKING. VEHICLE PULSATED WHEN COMING TO STOP AT TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT SPEED OF 25 MPH. CONTACT FELT IT WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE OF FAILURE TO STOP OR LOSS OF CONTROL. VEHICLE VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY WHEN SLOWING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH OR HIGHER OR FOR ON/OFF RAMPS OR TRAFFIC BACK UPS ON HIGHWAYS. STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER TESTED AND FOUND THAT THE STEERING GEAR CAME APART INTERNALLY SENDING METAL FRAGMENTS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. DEALER FOUND IT NECESSARY TO REPLACE POWER STEERING PUMP, GEAR BOX, RADIATOR FAN BECAUSE IT IS HYDRAULICALLY RAN THROUGH THE POWER STEERING PUMP, THE RETURN AND PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSES ECT. DEALER REPAIRED AT A COST OF $2846.53 PLUS TAX. LATER I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE STEERING GEAR BOX HOWEVER OUR JEEP WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN # . *NM

ON MY FIRST VISIT, WAS TOLD "NOTHING IS WRONG"... ON MY SECOND VISIT, WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE WARPED..THERE WAS ONLY 17,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE! I DRIVE 8 MILES A DAY TO WORK ON CITY STREETS AND I AM NOT A HEAVY BRAKE USER. THE DEALER WANTED 200.00 PER ROTOR !! I HAVE NEVER HAD ROTORS GO BAD SO FAST. I WAS ADVISED TO WAIT IT OUT..THAT THE PARTS HAVE TO BE DEFECTIVE. ON A RECENT TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS, THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES WAS VERY EVIDENT. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED & PULSATED SO BAD I FEARED FOR MY LIFE. NOW THAT I AM BACK IN FLORIDA, THE PROBLEM IS BARELY NOTICEABLE UNLESS I AM ON A 4 LANE ROADWAY DOING 35-40 MPH. I PLANNED TO TAKE THE JEEP ELSEWHERE FOR BRAKE SERVICE WHEN I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE RECEIVED A "FREE BRAKE INSPECTION".. I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR 2 BRAKE INSPECTIONS!! I WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED....AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHEN I FIRST COMPLAINED. *JB
