AFTER DOING THE SAFETY RECALL N23 FOR THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2005-2010, A MONTH LATER THE 4X4 LOW DON'T ENGAGED ANYMORE, AND "SERVICE 4WD SYSTEM" WARNING LIGHT ON, WHEN YOU PULL THE 4X4 LOW SWITCH. I'VE BEEN READING A LOT ON THE WEB AND IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO ALL THE PEOPLE AFTER DOING THE RECALL SERVICE. I'M FROM CARACAS VENEZUELA. *TR

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2006 JEEP AND IT WAS FINE THE FIRST COUPLE DAYS THEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN THE DASH JUST STARTED FLASHING I LET IT GO THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE DAYS LATER SO I GOOGLED IT AND FOUND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES ONE PERSON SPENT OVER $2000 IN REPAIRS BUT NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE ONE PERSON FOUND THE ISSUE BEING THE IGNITION SOLENOID AND LOCK IN IT I JUST WANT THE ISSUE FIXED IF ITS HAPPENING TO THIS MANY PEOPLE MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON IT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DOWN SHIFT TO THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AND DAMAGED THE REAR AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
RANDOM INCIDENTS WHILE DRIVING THE DASHBOARD WILL LIGHT UP WITH ALL INDICATORS AND GAUGES GO TO ZERO VALUE. I RECORDED ON MY CELL PHONE ONE INCIDENT. I HAD ONE CASE THAT JEEP STALLED AT SAME TIME OF INCIDENT, AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD, SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTART. I DISCUSSED THIS WITH LOCAL DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT OBTAIN ANY ERROR CODE. I CALLED CHRYSLER ON ONE INCIDENT AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO KNOWN PROBLEMS REPORTED ON MY VEHICLE. DEALER SAID TO RETURN NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS BUT I AM ALWAYS NOT IN A CONVENIENT PLACE AND THE DASHBOARD WILL RETURN TO NORMAL STATUS AFTER SOME TIME WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON CALIFORNIA STATE ROUTE 20 EASTBOUND IN THE CURVES PAST THE OMEGA REST STOP, AT 6:00 AM, WHEN ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS WENT OUT, AND SEVERAL SECONDS LATER ILLUMINATED AGAIN, THEY WHEN OUT AGAIN AND ILLUMINATED A THIRD TIME, AT WHICH POINT THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE CAR SHUT OFF. IT WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EVENT. I WAS ABLE TO FLICK THE STEERING WHEEL HEADLIGHT CONTROL AND THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, BECAUSE I WAS IN A CURVE SECTION OF A MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, A PULL OUT WAS A QUARTER MILE AHEAD AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I CALLED AAA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY DISPATCHED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW THE CAR BACK TO GRASS VALLEY/NEVADA CITY. TWO WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ON THE DASH UNTIL THE LIGHTS WERE TURNED OFF AND THE CAR TOWED. A LIGHT ON THE UPPER RIGHT WITH A CAR AND A SWAG AND A LIGHT IN MIDDLE. ABS ? AT THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, THEY FOUND NO CODES TO INDICATE ANY TYPE OF FAILURE. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN SINCE TO MAGNUSSEN'S JEEP DEALER IN AUBURN, CALIFORNIA AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETECT ANY PROBLEM. A SIMILAR EVENT HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND IN 2008 APPROXIMATELY AND THE REPAIR FACILITY WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM. I HAVE WORKED IN TRUCKEE, CA AND HAVE COMMUTED TO WORK SINCE 2001 ON THIS ROAD IN SEVERAL VEHICLES( (INCLUDING TWO OTHER JEEPS). I HAVE NEVER HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT AND I BELIEVE IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN THE REPAIR FACILITY WAS UNABLE TO DETECT A PROBLEM, MY HUSBAND AND I BEGAN LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM ON THIS WEBSITE AND OTHERS AND BELIEVE THAT OUR INCIDENT IS NOT UNIQUE AND REFLECTS A SUBSTANTIAL DEFECT WITH THIS VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, OUR COMPOUND LOW GEAR HAS NOT WORKED SINCE THE LAST RECALL WAS PERFORMED AT THE JEEP DEALER IN ROSEVILLE, CA
I FILED COMPLAINT (10561016) WHEN THE FIRST JEEP DEALER I WENT TO WOULD NOT HONOR THE SAFETY RECALL N23. THE SECOND JEEP DEALER I WENT TO SAID THEY WOULD HONOR THE SAFETY RECALL N23. AFTER GOING TO THE JEEP DEALER THEY CHECKED THEIR RECORDS AND ADVISED ME THE RECALL WAS ALREADY COMPLETED ON MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE NEEDS A TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR AND I WILL BE CHARGED FOR THIS PART AND LABOR. IN ADDITION THEY ADVISED THIS PART IS ON BACK ORDER. MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S 4WD LO WAS WORKING PRIOR TO THIS SAFETY RECALL N23. I FEEL THAT CHRYSLER/JEEP SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR REPLACING THIS PART. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT A HIGH SPEED WHILE HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THERE WAS NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.LJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
MY DAUGHTER WAS TRYING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AND THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS POSTS ON THE INTERNET DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR OTHER EMERGENCY REQUIRING QUICK EXIT FROM THE CAR. THE DOOR MUST NOW BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS COULD RESULT IN A PERSON BEING TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE UNNECESSARILY. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL TO HAVE THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS REPLACED BY JEEP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING CAR WITH LIGHTS ON THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND THEN GO OUT. I TURN THEM OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING AT NIGHT WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON A LARGE NUMBER OF JEEP'S. I FEEL JEEP NEEDS TO DETERMINE WHAT THE CAUSE AND SOLUTION IS FOR THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR
ON 01/20/2014, I BROUGHT MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2006 TO MY MECHANIC DUE TO A SERVICE 4WD SYSTEM LIGHT ON DASHBOARD. MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT THE COMPUTER REVEALED CODE SAFETY RECALL N23/NHTSA 13 V-175. SAFETY RECALL N23 MAY UNINTENTIONALLY CAUSE THE TRANSFER CASE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL POSITION WITHOUT INPUT FROM THE DRIVER. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY INADVERTENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME TO GO TO MY JEEP DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE SAFETY RECALL. ON 01/21/2014, I CONTACTED VIA TELEPHONE THE JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. I ADVISED THE JEEP EMPLOYEE OF THE SITUATION WITH MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2006. THE JEEP EMPLOYEE ADVISED THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED FOR REPAIR. I ADVISED THE JEEP EMPLOYEE THAT THE CODE N23 WAS A SAFETY RECALL. THE JEEP EMPLOYEE RESPONDED BY MAKING AN ACCUSATION THAT MY MECHANIC'S COMPUTER WAS PROBABLY OUTDATED. IN ADDITION THE JEEP EMPLOYEE ADVISED THAT THE CODE N23 WAS NOT A SAFETY RECALL. CONTINUING ON THE SAME DATE, I CONTACTED ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION WITH MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2006. I WAS ADVISED BY THE JEEP EMPLOYEE THAT THE CODE N23 IS A SAFETY RECALL AND THE JEEP DEALERSHIP WOULD HONOR THE RECALL. I CONDUCTED FURTHER RESEARCH TO DISCOVER THAT ON 08/17/2013 I BROUGHT MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2006 TO THE FIRST JEEP DEALERSHIP MENTIONED FOR SAFETY RECALL N23. *TR
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SAFETY RECALL ON IGNITION SWITCH. *MW THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER DENIED THE CONSUMER'S REQUEST BY STATING THERE WAS NO PERMANENT REMEDY. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED CHRYSLER AFTER RECEIVING THE LETTER, AND THEY INFORMED HIM IT WAS THEIR POLICY NOT TO REIMBURSE UNTIL A SECOND RECALL LETTER WAS SENT WITH A PERMANENT FIX. *JB
WHILE DRIVING DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL ALL COME ON SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU START THE CAR. OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS (RADIO, ODOMETER) STOP BUT ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN. CAN STEER AND BRAKE BUT DIFFICULT. NO ERROR MESSAGES RECEIVED. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN WITH NO WARNING OVER THE PAST 9 MONTHS. MULTIPLE MECHANICS HAVE LOOKED AT THE CAR BUT CANNOT IDENTIFY A PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR

AFTER MY GRAND CHEROKEE HAD THE "N23" RECALL PERFORMED ON IT BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER, THE "SERVICE 4WD" INDICATOR COMES ON AND DISABLES MY TRANSFER CASE SHIFTING. I CLEAR THE CODES AND IT WORKS AGAIN FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THEN THE CODES RETURN (C1406, C1405, C140F) DISABLING THE SHIFTING AGAIN. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH GRAND CHEROKEES ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION I HAVE FOUND ON JEEPFORUM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. A TROUBLE CODE WAS DETECTED, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE HORN BECAME INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WHEN DRIVING ALL THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT COME ON (FLICKER) AND INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS GO DARK. THE HEATER DIES AND THE GAUGES DO NOT WORK (SHOWS 0 RPM AND GAS TANK AS EMPTY). I AM UNABLE TO EVEN READ MY SPEED AT WHAT I AM DRIVING. IT HAPPENS NUMEROUS TIMES THERE IS NO CERTAIN TIMES WHEN IT HAPPENS, I CAN BE AT A COMPLETE STOP, IN PARK , OR DRIVING AT ANY RATE OF SPEED. THE WARNING LIGHT FLASH ANYWHERE FOR 1 TO 30 TIMES. I CAN STILL DRIVE BUT HAVE NO POWER FOR ANYWHERE FROM A SEC TO 5 SECONDS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR. I WENT AT THE LONGEST OF 3 MONTHS WITH OUT IT OCCURRING. NOW IN THE PAST MONTH IT IS DOING IT EVERY TIME I START THE CAR AND CONTINUES UNTIL I REACH MY DESTINATION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SHOP TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THEY SAY IT IS DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. THEN THEY PROCEED TO TELL THAT THE PARTS WITH CHRYSLER ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I AM VERY UPSET, I AM VERY SCARED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE FIXED ASAP. I HOPE THIS DOES NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN I OR ANYONE ELSE COULD POSSIBLY BE HARMED.

DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL RANDOMLY START TO FLASH, AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING SYSTEM LOSES POWER, AND SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER FLUCTUATES ERRATICALLY. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SO OFTEN, WITHOUT WARNING. IT DOES NOT LOSE POWER, BUT SIMPLY LIGHTS FLASH AND IT IS SCARY. ONE TIME, THE HEADLIGHTS FLASHED OFF AND ON UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS FOUND ALL OVER THE JEEP FORUMS AND INTERNET, THESE JEEPS ARE KNOWN FOR THE REAR DIFFERENTIALS FAILING AND HAVING TO BE REPLACED BEFORE THE DIFFERENTIALS FALL APART AND COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT, THE DIFFERENTIAL WILL BEGIN TO FAIL BY MAKING A LOUD WHINE GEAR NOISE FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL. I HAVE A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES HAVE CRACKS AROUND THE PLASTIC. MY BACK PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE HAS ACTUALLY COME OFF. I AM CONCERNED FOR OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. WHEN I ARRIVED I COULD NOT GET MY JEEP OUT OF NEUTRAL MODE...MESSAGE "REPAIR 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM". I WENT TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR AT THE COST OF $600.00. WHEN WE GOT READY TO LEAVE FLORIDA IN APRIL I COULD NOT GET THE JEEP TO GO INTO NEUTRAL/TOW MODE...SAME MESSAGE. I WENT BACK TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP... THIS TIME THEY TESTED THE MOTOR AND RESET THE CODES...I WAS ABLE TO GO INTO TOW MODE. NOW IN MAY AS WE WERE HOOKING UP TO GO CAMPING I COULD NOT GO INTO TOW MODE..SAME MESSAGE AGAIN. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENTIRE DASH BOARD LIT UP, BLANK A FEW TIMES, AND THEN WENT DARK. NOTHING ON THE DASH BOARD WAS WORKING (NO MPH, GAS GAUGE, ETC.). AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF BLINKING AND GOING DARK, EVERYTHING BEGINS TO WORK AGAIN, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THIS EXACT SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. USUALLY THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FROM ANYWHERE BETWEEN 1-5 DAYS AND THEN GO AWAY. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR. IN ONCE INSTANCE, I WAS DRIVING AROUND THE CITY GOING 10-15 MPH AND THIS SCENARIO HAPPENED AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO TURN.
