ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAVE BROKEN. TWO OF THE DOOR HANDLES WERE RENDERED INOPERABLE DUE TO THE BREAKAGE. THE OTHER TWO ARE CURRENTLY WORKING BUT THE BREAKAGE IS GETTING PROGRESIVLEY WORSE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR TWO REASONS. ONE, AN INDIVIDUAL MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE IF AN EMERGENCY ARRISES. TWO, THE BREAKAGE CREATES SHARP JAGGED EDGES WHICH MAY HARM CHILDREN. WHEN I CONTACTED JEEP THEY REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE BECAUSE TH EVEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS A PAINT PROBLEM. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALERSHIP MISREPRESENTED AND UNREPORTED INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF ETCHING AND PEELING PAINT AND REPAINTING OF THE VEHICLE. *NJ THE CONSUMER ALSO DISCOVERED EXTENSIVE RUST UNDER THE FRONT SEATS AND ON THE HINGES, HE BELIEVED THERE WAS POSSIBLE MOISTURE PROBLEM. *JB
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: THIS MORNING I WENT OUTSIDE TO MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED, TO PACK IT UP FOR THE DAY. I OPENED THE BACK LIFT GATE AND BEGAN TO LOAD ITEMS. AS I WAS LOADING STUFF, THE LIFT GATE CAME CRASHING DOWN ON THE TOP OF MY HEAD, WITH NO RESISTANCE. IT HIT SO HARD THAT FOR A MOMENT, I WAS UNAWARE OF WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. I TRIED TO LIFT IT OFF OF MYSELF, AND IT BOUNCED BACK OFF MY HEAD AGAIN. I IMMEDIATELY GOT MYSELF INTO THE HOUSE TO SEEK HELP. THE PAIN WAS UNBEARABLE AND I HAD TINGLING IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY FACE AND NECK, AND BURNING AND THROBBING PAIN IN MY HEAD AND RIGHT EAR. I WAS IMMEDIATELY RUSHED TO THE DR'S OFFICE AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A CONTUSION, WITH BLEEDING IN THE MUSCLE AND SYMPTOMS SIMILAR TO A CONCUSSION. I DID NOT LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS, BUT AM SUFFERING ALL SYMPTOMS. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP ICE ON THE AREA AND TAKE TYLENOL FOR THE PAIN. I NEED TO BE KEPT UNDER OBSERVATION FOR THE NEXT 24 HRS BY MY FAMILY. MY FATHER HAS COME TO THE ASSUMPTION THAT WITH IT BEING 8 DEGREES OUTSIDE, THAT THE PISTONS WERE LACKING OR CONTAINED FROZEN FLUID, WHICH CAUSES THEM TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE, NOT ONLY TO ME, BUT TO OTHERS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE. I AM THANKFUL THAT NO CHILDREN WERE STANDING NEXT TO ME, AS IT WOULD HAVE PROBABLY CREATED A FATALITY WITH THE WEIGHT AND SPEED OF THE GATE CRASHING. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT HOOD PISTON REPLACED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THE BACK LIFT GATE BEING AN ISSUE. I CAN TELL YOU THIS IS MY SECOND SUV AND I NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE WITH MY OTHER SUV, NOT EVEN IN TEMPERATURE BELOW ZERO. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE GETS HURT, AS MOST PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE, JUST LIKE I WAS. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS JEEP FOR A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AND IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS TECHNICALLY. NOW THAT I HAVE GOTTEN THOSE FIXED, I PHYSICALLY GET INJURED BY IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLASTIC ON ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WERE FRACTURED AND THE REAR DOORS WERE UNABLE TO BE OPENED FROM THE INTERIOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
IF THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION SHAKE JUST SLIGHTLY, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH FLICKER ON/OFF, ENGINE CUTS OUT AND COMES BACK ON. I'VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 12/08 AND STILL HAPPENS. I CAN ONLY HAVE 1 CAR KEY IN IGNITION SO NOTHING HAPPENS BUT STILL DOES EVERY SO OFTEN. *TR
2006 JEEP GC LIMITED 5.7 HEMI, THE '4X4' DASH LIGHT WOULD CONTINUE TO INDICATE A FAILURE. AFTER 3 TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DETERMINED\DISCOVERED A BAD SENSOR IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CAUSING THE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. *TR
DRIVING 75 MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE AND ENGINE STALLED, AND ALL POWER COMPONENTS, INCLUDING POWER STEERING STALLED AND BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND MAKE MY WAY TO THE SHOULDER. ONCE STOPPED CAR STARTED UP WITHOUT PROBLEM. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNSETTLING MALFUNCTION. *TR
I OWN A BOTH 2006 AND A 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SRT-ON THE 2007 MODEL, THE FRONT LEFT TIRE FAILED FROM TREAD SEPARATION DURING EARLY OCTOBER (TIRES WERE NOT VERY WORN) - I HAD ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, THE FRONT LEFT TIRE ON MY 2006 JEEP FAILED YESTERDAY (11/30/2008) WITH APPROXIMATELY 29,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IN THIS MOST RECENT FAILURE, ABOUT 2 INCHES OF TREAD ON THE INNER SIDE SEPARATED AND CAME COMPLETELY OFF THE TIRE. I HAVE THUS HAD IDENTICAL TIRE FAILURES ON TWO SEPARATE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME OEM (GOODYEAR) TIRES. IN BOTH CASES, APPARENT TREAD WEAR WAS NOT HIGH. *TR
OVER THE LAST 2 MONTHS, MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. ON 4 OCCASIONS. THE FIRST OCCASION WAS 9/30 (35,123 MILES) I READ THE MANUAL THAT INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT COULD MEAN A VARIETY OF THINGS AND IT SUGGESTED THAT IF THE LIGHT REMAINED ON AFTER A COUPLE OF USES TO CALL THE DEALER. THE LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER TWO CYCLES. IT OCCURRED 3 WEEKS LATER. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT A JEEP DEALER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE 3RD TIME IT SHUT OF WAS ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY A DEALER WHO COULD NOT OFFER ANY EXPLANATION FOR THE PROBLEM. THE 4TH OCCASION WAS ON THANKSGIVING DAY.) JUST PRIOR TO THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN, I HEARD AN UNUSUAL SOUND UNDER THE HOOD, ALL GAUGES FAILED, AND I LOST ALL POWER CAUSING THE CAR TO STOP. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WITH THREE OF THE OCCASIONS OCCURRING AT INTERSECTION AS I WAS PULLING OUT. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER DRIFTING OFF THE ROAD AND SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND RE-STARTING THE CAR IT WOULD RUN NORMALLY ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. I EXPLAINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS VERY DANGEROUS THE DEALER SAID THAT PERHAPS IF THE SERVICE TECH COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE THE PROBLEM COULD BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE DEALER FOR 4 DAYS BUT THE TECH COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER OFFERED NO EXPLANATION FOR THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I AM NOW RELUCTANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE IT FOR FEAR IT WILL SHUT OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM AGAIN OCCURRED ON THANKSGIVING DAY. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN AND EXPLAINED THAT IT HAD OCCURRED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD TO THEY WERE VERY BUSY ON FRIDAY AND THAT I SHOULD BRING THE VEHICLE IN ON MONDAY. HELP I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE ILLUMINATED COMPONENTS IN THE VEHICLE WOULD DIM INTERMITTENTLY. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTS FLICKERED AS IF SHE WERE FLASHING THEM DURING THE DAY AND NIGHT. THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE INTERIOR LIGHTING, SPECIFICALLY THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, WOULD DIM WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN THEM BACK ON AGAIN. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, HOWEVER, WOULD STILL MALFUNCTION. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC ONCE, BUT NEITHER COULD DUPLICATE OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
2006 GC LIMITED 5.7 HEMI, ON OCCASION DURING THE HOURS OF 'DUSK' ALL THE VEHICLE LIGHTS WILL FLICKER\ON AND OFF (DASH, HEADLIGHTS, RADIO EVERYTHING WHEN TURNED ON). I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO LOCATE THE ISSUE. SEEMS TO ONLY OCCUR DURING LATE HOURS WHEN THE SUN IS GOING DOWN. WORK AROUND IS PLACING THE HEADLIGHTS ON 'AUTOMATIC' WHICH RESOLVES THE ISSUE. DRIVE ME CRAZY. *TR
ON OCTOBER 27, 2008 I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TOWARDS LOS ALAMOS, NEW MEXICO, FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE VEHICLE STALLED AND EVENTUALLY BURST INTO FLAMES, INITIAL REPORTS FROM THE INVESTGATION REVEALED AN ENGINE ELECTRICAL FIRE WAS THE CAUSE. *TR
PURCHASED 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE NEW. WITHIN FIRST 6 MONTHS HAVE BEEN TAKING IT BAKE TO THE DEALER FOR INTERMITTENT LACK/STALLING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND MOSTLY MAKING SLIGHT TURNS OR WHEN I BEGIN TO TURN AS WELL AS UP AND DOWN HILL. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LAST 2 YRS,BUT MOST RECENTLY HAS HAPPENED ALOT MORE OFFEND. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WITH NO RESULT EACH TIME. WITHIN THE LAST 2 WEEKS IS HAS STALLED AT LEAST 7 TIMES. 9/27/08 I WAS INJURED FROM SLAMMING THE BREAKS AND FIGHTING THE STEERING TO AVOID A HEAD ON COLLISION AT AN INTERSECTION WHILE STARTING TO MAKE A TURN. I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND AGAIN WITH NO RESULT. THE DAY I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALER IT SHUT DOWN IN THEIR LOT. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN RECORDED IN THE CODES,BUT THEY TOLD ME THEY FOUND NOTHING. THE NEXT DAY IT STALLED WHILE DROPPING MY SON OFF AT SCHOOL. HE WAS WITH ME WHEN I WAS INJURED SO I CAN PROVE IT DOES HAPPEN. I DID CALL THE DEALER BACK AND THAT WAS 3 DAYS AGO. THEY WILL NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALL LET ALONE HONOR MY WARRANTY. CAR ENGINE STALLS AT IDLE AND ONCE AT 70 MPH WHILE PRESSING CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF ISSUE WITH ELECTRICAL?? LIGHTS ON DASH FLASH, POWER LOSS TO NEAR STALL CONDITION. INABILITY TO STEER VEHICLE. *TR
VEHICLE STALLS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 4 - 5 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS, WITH NO RESOLUTION BECAUSE THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT. WHEN RESEARCHING ONLINE THERE ARE FORUMS WITH OTHERS WHO ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP IT IS USUALLY INTO TRAFFIC AND PRESENTS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THERE IS A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER (BRAKES & STEERING). *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BEEN SLIPPING. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND I WAS TOLD IT IS OK. THEN A FEW WEEKS LATER, I TAKE OFF FROM A STOP LIGHT AND MY ENGINE REVS TO 3000 RPM AND I AM LOSING SPEED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SO I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THEY CHECK IT OUT AND TELL ME IT IS THE ELECTRONICS IN THE SHIFTER THAT IS BAD. I ASK WHAT IS WRONG AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TAKES ME TO THE MECHANIC. HE TELLS ME ABOUT THE ISSUE AND SAYS THAT THEY HAVE SEEN ALOT OF THESE ISSUES AND THE BACK ORDER ON THE PART IS 450 PARTS IN THE NEGATIVE. I THINK THIS IS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. *TR
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENTIRE DASH BOARD LIT UP, BLANK A FEW TIMES, AND THEN WENT DARK. NOTHING ON THE DASH BOARD WAS WORKING (NO MPH, GAS GAUGE, ETC.). AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF BLINKING AND GOING DARK, EVERYTHING BEGINS TO WORK AGAIN, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THIS EXACT SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. USUALLY THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FROM ANYWHERE BETWEEN 1-5 DAYS AND THEN GO AWAY. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR. IN ONCE INSTANCE, I WAS DRIVING AROUND THE CITY GOING 10-15 MPH AND THIS SCENARIO HAPPENED AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO TURN. EVERYTIME I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY TRY TO PULL A CODE AND NOTHING IS AVAILABLE FOR THEM. AT THIS POINT I AM FED UP SO I AM OFFICIALLY REPORTING THE ISSUE. IT IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO BE DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY. LET'S HOPE SOMETHING IS OFFICIALLY DONE BEFORE ANYONE GETS HURT. *TR
I WAS RECENTLY DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL ROAD GOING ABOUT 35MPH UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AND THE AUTOMATIC JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 2006 STALLS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS. PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL WILL REV THE ENGINE BUT IT IS LIKE THE JEEP IS IN NEUTRAL. EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO WORK ACCEPT THE CAR IS NOT IN ANY GEAR. THE DASHBOARD INDICATES THE CAR IS IN DRIVE. I HAVE TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURN THE IGNITION OFF BEFORE RESTARTING, THEN THE CAR SEEMS TO RUN FINE FOR AWHILE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES OVER THE LAST MONTH. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK THE CAR INTO A LOCAL JEEP DEALER WHERE THEY COULD ONLY FINE OLD CODES IN THE JEEP COMPUTER SYSTEM NOTING INACTIVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHICH THEY SINCE CLEARED AND WERE UNABLE TO DO MUCH ELSE. AN ERROR CODE FOR THE O2 SENSOR WAS ALSO FOUND AND THE O2 SENSOR WAS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD TO TRY IT OUT AND LET THEM KNOW IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THAT WAS ABOUT 10 DAYS AGO. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED OVER THIS WEEKEND, I HAVE YET TO CONTACT THE DEALER WHICH I PLAN TO DO THIS WEEK. *TR
MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STALLS WHEN DECELERATING OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. HAVE TAKEN TO NUMEROUS DEALERSHIPS AND BEEN TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH A SERVICE TECHNICIAN. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
UPDATE: THE BRAKING SYSTEM, PRIMARY AND EMERGENCY, FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 6:30 AM 5/13/2008. MY WIFE WAS UNABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL TRAVELING DOWN AN UNPAVED HILL AND HAD A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A BOULDER. WE HAVE CALLED THE ATTORNEY AND WE ARE AWAITING A CALL BCK AT THIS TIME. CHRYSLER AND SCHEID ARE GOING TO WISH THEY NEVER HEARD OF ME NOW. THEY CAN SHOVE THEIR BS "REPURCHASE" OFFERS UP THEIR'!@#$%. *TR

STOPPED FOR GAS. STARTED ENGINE AND THERE WAS GREAT AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. HAD TO MANEUVER TO REACH THE EXIT AREA---KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND WENT FORWARD WITH THE ENGINE STRAINING, PUT IT IN REVERSE, SAME THING. COULDN'T 'DE-ACCELERATE'. MOVED FORWARD A BIT AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. IF I WAS NOT QUICKLY IN CONTROL OF THAT VEHICLE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN FATALITIES WROTE CHRYSLER AND RECEIVED A RESPONSE THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THIS MODEL. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. HE PUT IT 'ON THE COMPUTER' AND BY THE END OF THE DAY FOUND THE PROBLEM. HE DISCOVERED A SERVICE BULLETIN DATED MAY 13, 2006 WHICH APPLIED TO GRAND CHEROKEES EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.7L ENGINE. IT DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION. THIS WARRANTED A RECALL. WHY COULDN'T THE OWNERS (LESSEES IN THIS CASE) BE NOTIFIED TO BRING THEIR VEHICLE IN TO CORRECT A DEFECTIVE PART OF THE VEHICLE COMPUTER (P2112). WHAT A SIMPLE SOLUTION FOR A DANGEROUS DEFECT! *TR
