TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,688.
WE HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER 9 MONTHS SINCE OUR INITIAL LETTER FROM CHRYSLER NOTIFYING US THAT OUR ELECTRICAL SWITCH WAS QUESTIONABLE. THERE IS ALSO A RECALL OUT FOR POWER TRAIN PARTS WHERE THE JEEP MAY SLIP INTO NEUTRAL--THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, TO THE POINT WHERE WE ARE UNSAFE DRIVING IT. ANY CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER HAS RESULTED IN "WE'VE FORWARDED YOUR COMPLAINT TO OUR PARTS DEPARTMENT" AND THEN NO RESPONSE. WE WERE TOLD THAT NO PARTS ARE IN MANUFACTURING--THERE AREN'T EVEN PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEMS!! WE CANNOT DRIVE OUR JEEP FOR FEAR OF DEATH / INJURY. PLEASE HELP US RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN FAILURE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND EXPLAINED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THERE WAS NO TIME FRAME FOR WHEN THE REPAIR COULD BE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR IGNITION SWITCH IN DECEMBER 2014. WENT TO MY CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DO THE RECALL BECAUSE NO PARTS HAVE COME IN. I CALLED AGAIN IN FEBRUARY 2015 STILL NO PARTS WHAT KIND OF RECALL IS THIS ARE YOU WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT TO OCCUR FIRST? 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE STEERING AND TIE ROD ASSEMBLY ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON APRIL 13, 2015, THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND THE LEFT FRONT TIE ROD FAILED AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED. HE ALSO SIDE-SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE, BEFORE COMING TO REST. THE CONSUMER STATED OTHER SUSPENSION COMPONENTS WERE DAMAGED AS WELL. *JB

UPON PREPARING TO STOP AND/OR MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN (MULTIPLE INCIDENTS) VEHICLE'S IGNITION SHUTS OFF. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS I WAS ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN ON A BUSY INDUSTRIAL 4 LANE ROAD WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF MID-TURN. I HAD TWO SMALL CHILDREN WITH ME (1 AND 4) AND AM EXTREMELY LUCKY I WAS NOT HIT, FROM BOTH SIDES. MY KNEE SITS APPROXIMATELY 8 INCHES FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH SO I KNOW IT WAS NOT BUMPED. *TR
LIGHT BULBS BEHIND THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT AND INFORMATION CENTER BLOW. CONSOLE IS DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE BLOWN LIGHT BULBS CANNOT BE REPLACED AS THEY ARE FUSED TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD OF THE AFFECTED UNIT. ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS TO REPLACE THE AFFECTED UNIT (LIKE THE WHOLE CLIMATE CONTROL), WHICH IS QUITE EXPENSIVE. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW SINCE THE BULBS ARE NEITHER MAINTENANCE-FREE (AND LONG-LASTING) NOR SERVICEABLE. OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH BLOWN CONSOLE LIGHTS AT NIGHT IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT CAUSE THE DRIVER TO TAKE THE EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WHILE TRYING TO OPERATE UNLIT CONSOLE EQUIPMENT. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN 2005-2010 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WK AND 2006-2010 JEEP COMMANDER.

IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED. MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,000.
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE JEEP IN 2009 BUT IT WAS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ONE. ALL LIGHTS WENT OFF INSIDE & OUT. THERE WAS SOME PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING & THE BRAKING ALSO. THE MOTOR DID NOT DIE NOR DID THE A/C OR RADIO GO OFF. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS FLASH A FEW TIMES & FOR A FEW SECONDS I LOOSE ALL THE LIGHTS & EXPERIENCE THE BRAKING & STEERING PROBLEMS. I DID RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH IN SEPTEMBER, 2014 STATING THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO GET THE PARTS FOR REPAIR BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ELSE FROM CHRYSLER. THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE AND AT THIS POINT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE ANY DISTANCE. *TR

PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, MY JEEP FELT AS IF IT WERE HAVING TROUBLE SWITCHING BETWEEN GEARS. IT FELT JERKY, IF YOU WILL. WHILE TRAVELING ALONG I-95 ON THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA, MY JEEP (TWICE) SLIPPED GEAR AND APPEARED TO HAVE GONE INTO NEUTRAL. IF YOU KNOW THE AREA, IT'S NOT THE IDEAL PLACE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. SINCE RETURNING TO THE WEST COAST OF FLORIDA, IT HAS HAPPENED ONCE. I'VE TAKEN TO A SHOP FOR A TUNE-UP AND TO CHECK ON THAT PROBLEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE 'FIX' DID NOT FIX IT AND I'M STILL EXPERIENCING JERKY SHIFTS AND GEAR FAILURE. I'VE READ A NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME TYPE OF INCIDENTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, BUT HAVE NOT LOCATED A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. WITHOUT HESITATION, I'LL SAY I'M TERRIFIED. *TR

I BOUGHT MY 06 JEEP IN MARCH OF 2015 AND HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT EVER SINCE. FIRST INCIDENT HAPPEND RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT CAR. PULLED IN TO MCDONALDS DRIVE THROUGH AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS LITE UP ALL OF THEM. SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME. SAME THINGS HAPPENED AT LEAST 6 OTHER TIMES WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP AND TRUCK WOULD SHUT OFF. I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT UP AND THEN TRUCK DIED. TRUCK WILL APPEAR TO BE RACING AT TIMES WHEN I BARLY HIT GAS.I HAD MY 5 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHT WITH ME AND THE TRUCK SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING GOING ABOUT 45 MILES. I NEVER WAS SO SCARED IN MY LIFE. ALL I COULD IMAGE WAS ME AND MY PRECIOUS GRANDDAUGHTER DYING. I WAS SO SCARED, I COULD NOT DRIVE FOR A DAY OR TWO TO SETTLE MY NERVES. PLEASE HELP !!!!!. I THINK THAT CHRYSLER NEEDS TO PAY FOR RENTALS TILL ISSUE IS FIXED OR HAVE TRUCKS REPLACED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. !!!!!!!

DRIVING 30 MPH, AFTER ABOUT 3 MILES OF DRIVING MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. FOLLOWED THE TIPS TO CHECK THE CODE AND IT SAYS "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP". EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE OK AT THE TIME BUT I'M SURE THIS WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A PROBLEM. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT 3AM, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THIS OCCURRED 5 TIMES WITHIN A 30 MINUTE TRIP. AT THE SAME TIME THE SEAT WARMER TURNED OFF, MY SPEAKERS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. HEAT WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I TURNED RADIO OFF, KEPT SEAT WARMER OFF, AND TURNED OFF HEAT BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN THREE TIMES AFTER THAT. IN BETWEEN THESE 5 INCIDENTS, THERE WAS ONE TIME THAT ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT OFF COMPLETELY. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS ILLUMINATED WAS THE GEAR I WAS IN. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND CANNOT SEE YOUR SPEED. ALL THE LIGHTS FLASHED ON WENT BACK TO NORMAL WHEN I DROVE THE CAR AGAIN THE FOLLOWING 2 DAYS. ONE TIME PER DAY ONLY. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL ON MY IGNITION BUT NO PART HAS YET BEEN RELEASED IN ORDER TO SWITCH OUT THE DEFECTED PART. WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH A NOISE OCCURRED IN THE REAR OF THE JEEP. THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AS I SLOWED DOWN AND FINALLY STOP. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY DEALER APPROXIMATELY 85 MILES FROM WHERE IT HAPPENED. HE SAID THE REAR END WAS BADLY DAMAGED. THE COST WOULD BE EXPENSIVE, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN $4000.00 TO $5000.00. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN. MY JEEP IS A PERSONAL USE VEHICLE ONLY, VERY EASY MILES AND ALWAYS SERVICED. I FEEL THIS FAILURE IS MANUFACTURE ISSUE. *TR
