ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AFTER DARK, I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF HEAD LIGHTS, DASH POWER AND HEATING TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED DOWN THE INTERSTATE. EARLIER THAT MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK, THE DASH QUIT WORKING 4 TIMES. ALL GAUGES STOP WORKING AND DROP TO ZERO AND THE HEAT/AC QUITS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MY HEAD LIGHTS TURNING OFF/LOSING POWER ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I AM ABLE TO SWITCH THEM FROM AUTOMATIC TO ON AND THEY WORK. ONCE MY DASH "FLICKERS" AND RETURNS TO NORMAL, THE ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION LIGHT AND ESP BAS LIGHT STAY ON. THIS HAS BECOME A DAILY MALFUNCTION THAT OCCURS ON MY WAY TO AND FROM WORK. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014, I DROVE STRAIGHT TO AUTO ZONE AND BOUGHT A BRAND NEW BATTERY. THEY TESTED THE BATTERY AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW ONE. THEY INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY AND CONNECTED POWER TO THE JEEP WHILE THEY CHANGED IT. I FIGURED A BAD BATTERY WAS THE ISSUE AND IT WAS NOW FIXED. A COUPLE DAYS LATER, I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A LOSS POWER TO MY DASH AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN MY JEEP TO 3 DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIPS AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT AN IGNITION SWITCH OR BAD BATTERY. THEY ALL TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED THE IGNITION SWITCH PART FOR THE RECALL BUT I WILL RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL WHEN THEY DO. ONE JEEP DEALERSHIP CONTACTED AUTO ZONE AND TOLD THEM THE ONLY THING THEY COULD FIND WRONG WITH IT WAS THE BATTERY. I WENT BACK TO AUTO ZONE AND THEY REPLACED MY BATTERY. I HAVE HAD MY ALTERNATOR CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES AND IT TESTED GOOD. THIS DEFECT/MALFUNCTION IS DANGEROUS AND A HAZARD TO MY LIFE AS WELL AS OTHER MOTORIST. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH JEEP'S HANDLING OF THE SITUATION AND LONG AWAIT PERIOD OF THE RECALL PART. *TR

SAFETY RISK: THIS MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKING ASSIST INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND DISABLING ONE OR MORE OF THE VEHICLES SAFETY FEATURES INCLUDING THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS. MY HUSBAND AND OUR DAUGHTER TOOK THIS JEEP TOO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TODAY TO HAVE THEM ADDRESS THE RECALL AND REPAIR IT, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT CHRYSLER HAS NOT PROVIDED THE PARTS YET. THIS RECALL WAS PUT IN PLACE 9 MONTHS AGO, CHRYSLER EITHER NEEDS TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY RIGHT NOW OR BUY ALL OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES BACK FROM THE OWNERS AT BLUE BOOK PRICE/VALUE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY TURN OFF AND ON, INCLUDING ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

MINE IS DOING THE SAME AS THE REST! AND NO HELP FROM A DEALER OR ANYONE! ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO I WAS TRAVELING IN CRUISE AT 70MPH STARTED TO NOTICE EVERY CRACK IN THE HWY MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER, FIGURED ONE WAS GOING BAD. 15 MILES LATER MY DASH, RADIO, HEADLIGHTS, AND CRUISE ALL SHUT OFF ON ME. IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE THEY COME BACK ON (INCLUDING ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS), EXCEPT FOR MY CRUISE. REMEMBERING THE RECALL NOTICE, THE PARTS I CAN'T GET, AND THE FACT I WAS A SERVICE WRITER FOR 8 YEARS AT A DEALERSHIP, I REALIZED MY TRUCK HAD SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON (MY KEY NEVER MOVED). SO AS I DRIVE ON IT STARTS DOING IT EVERY 20 MIN OR SO. THE NEXT DAY ON MY WAY HOME IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. NOW WHEN I DRIVE SHORT DISTANCES IN THE COLD (NORTHERN WI) IT DOES NOT HAPPEN NEARLY AS MUCH, NOW LONGER DISTANCE WITH THE HEAT BLOWING THE WHOLE WAY IT HAPPENS REGULARLY, I ALSO NOTICE IF I TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION ITS VERY WARM ALMOST HOT.. THE LAST STRAW WAS THIS LAST WEEKEND, I WAS MAKING OUR YEARLY SPRING CABIN RUN, TRAVELING AT AROUND 35/40 MPH ON A GRAVEL ROAD MY ENTIRE TRUCK WENT DEAD, KEY WAS IN THE ON POSITION AND I LOST ALL POWER TO EVERYTHING , NOT WANTING TO LOSE CONTROL, I GRABBED FOR THE KEY ( AGAIN GOING BACK TO THE RECALL) AND I LITERALLY TURNED THE KEY FROM THE RUN POSITION TO OFF TO THE RUN POSITION AND IT RESTARTED (DOING THIS AS I'M ROLLING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD WITH NO POWER BRAKES OR STEERING AT 35/40MPH). ALSO NOTED THAT IT WAS NOT JUST ME IN THE VEHICLE! I'VE READ, WATCHED VIDEOS ON THIS, TALKED TO OTHER OWNER AND NOW HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FIRST HAND. AFTER IT TURNING OFF COMPLETELY, THIS IS WAY MORE DANGEROUS THAN CHRYSLER IS ADMITTING. MY NEXT STEP IS PUTTING A NEW "BAD" SWITCH IN, IF THIS ONE MADE IT 80,000 MILES WHY CAN'T THE NEXT, HOWEVER SADLY IT WILL BE ON MY DIME. ALL FOUR OF THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE PLASTIC PARTS (I BELIEVE THEY ARE CALLED CUPS) HAVE BROKEN. THIS HAS CAUSED THE HANDLES THEMSELVES TO BECOME LOOSE AND UNSTABLE. THE HANDLE ON ONE OF THE DOORS (RIGHT REAR DOOR) HAS ALSO NOW BROKEN, CAUSING THAT DOOR TO BE UNUSABLE FROM THE INSIDE, WHICH HAS CREATED A SAFETY ISSUE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY OR ACCIDENT. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE VIA INTERNET SEARCH, I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH MANY JEEPS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2005-2010. THE SAFETY ISSUES ARE URGENT AND NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BY JEEP IMMEDIATELY.

I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT WITH FRONTAL DAMAGE, MORE ON THE DRIVER SIDE, AND THE NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. SAW THE RECALL ON MY VIN FOR POSSIBLE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE AIR BAG UNIT. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40 MPH AND HIT A UHAUL TRUCK THAT WAS MAKING AN ILLEGAL U TURN. *TR

I HAVE A RECALL THAT SAYS THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN CHANGE POSITION WHILE I AM DRIVING CAUSING THE CAR TO CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAN CAUSE A LOSS IN ENGINE POWER, POWERE STEERING, BRAKING ASSISTANCE AND POSSIBLE FAILURE OF AIR BAGS CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE INCIDENT THAT I DESCRIBE ABOVE OCCURRED ON INTERSTATE 85. I BELEIVE THAT WAS WHAT HAPPENED AS I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE RAOD TO AN EXIT. SAT FOR A WHILE TRYING TO FIQURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG FINALLY AFTER A WHILE THE CAR STARTED BACK UP AND I GOT TO MY DESTINATION. AFTER READING THE ARTICLE AND LOOKING UP MY VIN NUMBER WHICH SHOWS THIS RECALL I BELEIVE THAT IS WHAT HAPPENDED. THIS RECALL HAS BEEN PENDING FOR MORE THAN A YEAR AND CHRYSLER STILL SAYS THEY DON'T HAV THE PARTS TO FIX IT.THE CHRYSLER RECALL # IS 14V-438.

Air bags light in the dashboard is on without any accident. Air bags are original, seems to be in good conditions or without any physical damage on the exterior. Call my attention the recalls for the Air bags light in others Jeep Grand Cherokee from others years.
RE: P41/NHTSA 14V-438 ON TWO OCCASIONS (1/23/2015) (3/19/2015) THE KEY SLIPPED OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. BOTH TIMES RESULTED IN LOSS OF POWER, STEERING & BRAKES. I HAVE CALLED MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE "FREE RECALL" SWITCHES ARE NOT AVAILABLE YET, BUT I COULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE IF I PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND LABOR. THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED IN SEPT 2014. I AM WAITING FOR A RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. CAN YOU ASSIST?

IN ADDITION, THE TRACTION CONTROL, THE ABS AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND BELIEVED THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. I AM NOW GOING ON MY 3RD INCIDENT WITH THIS PROBLEM! I LOSE ALL LIGHTS AND GAUGES ON MY DASHBOARD. HEAT TURNS OFF AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, MY IGNITION TURNED OFF ON ME AND MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND I HAD TO PULL OVER. EACH TIME I HAD CARS BEHIND ME AND THANKFULLY NEITHER I NOR THE CAR BEHIND ME WERE INJURED. ALL THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND GAUGES GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO WHERE I CAN NOT TELL HOW FAST I AM GOING. MY MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON FEBRUARY 28TH, 2015, I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN IT WAS MY TURN TO GO MY LIGHTS FLICKERED FOR A SECOND THEN ALL GAUGES WENT DOWN AND THE GRINDING STARTED, IT WAS AS IF I WAS TRYING TO DRIVE ON NEUTRAL, SO I THEN MOVED TO THE SIDE BECAUSE I HAD A CAR BEHIND ME AND THE CAR STOPPED. I SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE TURNING IT BACK ON. I DRIVE ON THE EXPRESSWAY 60 MILES A DAY TO AND FROM WORK, I AM SCARED OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. PROBLEM STARTED AROUND JANUARY 2015 ON MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. MY HUSBAND REPLACED THE STARTER AND PROBLEM PERSISTED. TOOK VEHICLE INTO GENESEE AUTO ELECTRIC ON 1/23/2015 AND THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM BUT CHARGED ME $250 FOR REPLACING BATTERY POSTS. THEN REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE FOR A LITTLE WHILE. AROUND MARCH 2015 HAD INCIDENT ON 15 SOUTH WHERE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 80 MILES AND THE ELECTRICAL STARTED GOING CRAZY. ALL ELECTRICAL ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED BLINKING AND GAUGES WERE MOVING ALL OVER THE PLACE. IT REALLY SCARED ME AND SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF JEEP. IT TOOK A WHILE TO RESTART IT BUT AFTER WIGGLING THE BATTERY A LITTLE IT WORKED. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY JEEP AFTER FULLY REALIZING WHAT THE RECALL WAS ABOUT AND DOING SOME RESEARCH ON OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES. CHRYSLER GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR FOR 3 DAYS AND HAS BEEN UNWILLING TO ASSIST ME ANY FURTHER. MY JEEP IS NOW SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP.
THE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY JEEP MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE DOOR.
RANDOMLY, MY CAR WOULDN'T START AND I WOULD THINK THAT THE BATTERY WENT DEAD. THEN, ANOTHER JEEP OWNER TOLD ME TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND JIGGLE THE SHIFTER, AND THAT IT SHOULD WORK. THIS WORKED AND AFTER ABOUT A YEAR OF UTILIZING THIS WORK AROUND, THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING IN BETWEEN GEARS AS I WAS DRIVING. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS FISHTAILING, HOWEVER I WOULD SEE THE AUTO-STEERING AND ABS LIGHTS POP UP ON THE DASHBOARD AND IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS LOSING CONTROL. I TOOK IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS WHOM WOULD CHECK THE STARTER, REALIGN, DO MORE RANDOM TESTING AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. AFTER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND HOURS SPENT TRYING TO IDENTIFY THE ISSUE, I EVENTUALLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL TELLING ME THAT THERE WAS INDEED A MAJOR ISSUE, HOWEVER THE PART NEEDED TO CORRECT IT WAS UNAVAILABLE AND MORE NEEDED TO BE MANUFACTURED. IT ALSO STATED THAT I SHOULDN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE, BUT RENT A CAR UNTIL THE PART WAS AVAILABLE AND THAT THE COST WOULD BE REIMBURSED EVENTUALLY, ONCE A PART WAS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. I COULD NOT AFFORD TO RENT A CAR FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME... AND THE PART REMAINED UNAVAILABLE FOR THE DURATION OF THE TIME THAT I OWNED IT. I TOOL IT TO A MECHANIC AT ONE POINT, EXPLAINED TO THEM ABOUT THE RECALL WHICH THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH, AND THEY REPLACED MY STARTER, HOPING THAT THIS WOULD MAKE THE CAR "SAFER" UNTIL THE PART WAS AVAILABLE. IT DID HELP, HOWEVER DID NOT RECTIFY THE ISSUE. BY THE TIME THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE, I HAD ALREADY SPENT THOUSANDS TRYING TO FIX IT AND HAD TRADED IT IN TO A DEALERSHIP WHEN I TOOK ON A LEASE. NOW IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY I SPENT TRYING TO FIX THE ISSUE PRIOR TO THE PART BEING AVAILABLE AS THEY ARE ONLY WILLING TO REIMBURSE YOU FOR THE SPECIFIC RECALL ITSELF.
