I BOUGHT A USED 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2 YEARS AGO IN ALABAMA. WE HAVE SINCE MOVED TO NEW YORK STATE AND THEY DO VEHICLE INSPECTIONS (ALABAMA DOES NOT). WHEN GETTING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE CUT OUT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS NON EXISTENT. ALL OTHER CUT OUTS ARE PRESENT AND THE LED FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS PRESENT AND WORKING. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS STAMPED AS BEING ORIGINAL AND NOT AFTERMARKET. BECAUSE THERE IS NOT A CUT OUT THE LED FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT VISIBLE WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INSTALLED AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP (FX CAPRARA) AND THEY TOLD ME TODAY THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX IT. A NEW PANEL BEING $600 AND A USED PANEL FROM MY LOCAL PICK AND PULL BEING $125. I CALLED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY AND THEY AGAIN TOLD ME JEEP CAN'T DO ANYTHING AND THAT IT IS UP TO THE DEALERSHIPS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WOULD BE UP TO ME TO PAY FOR THIS. IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED ON THAT LEVEL. I DID MY DUE DILIGENCE WHEN PURCHASING THE CAR BUT ONE CANNOT BE EXPECTED TO PULL THE DASH PANEL TO ENSURE ALL THE CUT OUTS ARE PRESENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED QUICKLY AS IT CANNOT BE USED UNTIL IT PASSES INSPECTION. IT ALSO POSSES A SAFETY CONCERN AS YOU ARE UNABLE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A CODE PRESENT. WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, THE LOW TIRE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. LESS THAN A MILE LATER, MY LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW AND THE WHEEL CUT INTO THE TIRE EFFECTIVELY DESTROYING THE TIRE. ALL THAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE WAS A RUBBER BAND AROUND THE WHEEL AND 25% OF ONE SIDEWALL. THE REMAINING RUBBER PIECES WERE STREWN ACROSS THE INTERSTATE. LUCKILY, I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD WITH NO VEHICLE TRAFFIC CLOSE, SO I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE SAFELY TO THE ROAD SHOULDER. IF THIS INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED ON A STEEP CURVE, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, ETC, THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS, EVEN LIFE-THREATENING, SITUATION. WHEN THE TIRE FELL APART, IT DAMAGED MY SIDE PANEL, REAR FENDER, AND BLEW OF MY BUMPER. I PUT ON THE SPARE, TIED ON MY BUMPER, AND DROVE TO THE TIRE STORE WHERE THESE TIRES HAD BEEN PURCHASED A COUPLE OF YEARS PRIOR. THE TIRES HAD 40,000 MILES ON THEM. THEY ARE WARRANTED FOR 65,000 MILES. THE TIRE STORE MAILED THE DAMAGED TIRE TO MICHELIN FOR THEIR ANALYSIS. I WAS SURPRISED WHEN I WAS TOLD BY A REP AT THIS TIRE STORE THAT MICHELIN NO LONGER MADE THIS PARTICULAR TIRE BECAUSE, AS HE UNDERSTOOD IT, THEY HAD KNOWN QUALITY ISSUES WITH IT. MICHELIN EXAMINED AND ASCERTAINED THAT THE TIRE WAS A "RUN FLAT" AND THEREFORE THEY DID NOT COVER EITHER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRE OR THE $1800+ OF DAMAGE. WHILE GLAD TO BE ALIVE AND UNINJURED, I AM SHOCKED AND VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED IN MICHELIN'S RESPONSE. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE BATTERY AND STARTER WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH THE RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH IN MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE RECALL NUMBER IS P41. WHILE I AM DRIVING THE ENTIRE DASH LIGHTS UP WITH EVERY POSSIBLE WARNING LIGHT POSSIBLE. MY GAUGES STOP WORKING AND THE LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF. SOMETIMES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR A DAY AFTER THIS HAPPENS. IT IS REALLY SCARY. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN MAY AND IT ONLY DID IT MAYBE 5 TIMES FROM MAY THROUGH JULY. AT THE END OF JULY IT STARTED HAPPENING A FEW TIMES A WEEK. IN SEPTEMBER WE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO JEEP TO VERIFY THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE IGNITION SWITCH...AND IT IS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO TEMPORARILY FIX IT UNTIL THE PART COMES IN. MEANWHILE I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING MY CAR. I'VE CALLED THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY TREAT ME HORRIBLE AND DON'T CARE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS HAVE NO INFORMATION AND TELL ME TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT POSTCARD. I'M REALLY FRUSTRATED AND DON'T FEEL LIKE THIS COMPANY CARES AT ALL. THE RECALL NOTICE "SAYS" THEY CARE ABOUT MY SAFETY BUT THEY SURE DON'T SHOW IT. MEANWHILE I HAVE TO DRIVE A CAR WITH MY CHILD IN IT THAT FEELS UNSAFE. IT HAS NOW BEEN 6 MONTHS SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE WAS SENT TO ME AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED THE ISSUE. HAPPENED 3 TIMES. ONLY IGNITION KEY ON KEY RING. CAR SHUT OFF WHEN PUSHING GAS PEDDLE AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A NEIGHBORHOOD STOP SIGN. COASTED TO OTHER SIDE OF INTERSECTION, TURNED OFF KEY AND RESTARTED. CAR SHUT OFF AFTER PUSHING GAS PEDDLE, MAKING LEFT HAND TURN AFTER LIGHT GAVE GREEN ARROW TO ENTER A FREEWAY ON RAMP. PULLED OFF TO SIDE OF FREEWAY RAMP TURNED OFF KEY AND RESTARTED. CAR SHUT OFF AFTER STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION STOP SIGN. AFTER CLEANING TRAFFIC PUSHED GAS PEDDLE TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH 50 MPH SPEED LIMIT. CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SHOULDER OF ROAD AVOIDING ONCOMING AND APPROACHING TRAFFIC. SHUT OFF KEY AND RESTARTED. MERGED INTO APPROACHING TRAFFIC. RECEIVED RECALL IN SEPT 2014. HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE CONTINUALLY. THEY CONTINUE TO ADVISE THEY HAVE NO PARTS TO REPAIR RECALL DEFECT AND THEREFORE CANNOT MAKE A RECALL REPAIR APPOINTMENT. I FEEL THEY ARE PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH MY LIFE AND THOSE OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD WHO MAY STRIKE MY DISABLED CAR AFTER IGNITION SHUT OFF.
IN MAY OF 2014 I REPLACED MY STARTER BECAUSE WHEN I WOULD ATTEMPT TO START MY VEHICLE IT WOULD CRANK BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE CONDITION PERSISTED EVEN AFTER PUTTING ON AN NEW STARTER. I EVENTUALLY WENT TO A JEEP DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER ABOUT P41/NHTSA 14V-438 RECALL BUT WAS NOT GIVEN A TIME FRAME AS TO WHEN I WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING. IN THE MEANTIME I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE ONE VEHICLE AND IT HAS CONTINUED TO NOT START IN INSTANCES WHEN I NEED IT MOST. IT HAS DONE SO WHILE MY WIFE HAD THE VEHICLE WHICH HAS CAUSED ME GREAT DISTRESS AS SHE WAS ALONE AND PANICKED WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE DOES START EVENTUALLY AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR SO. THIS IS UNSAFE AND UNACCEPTABLE. WE SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND SHE TOLD US SHE COULD NOT SAY WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. SHE WENT ON TO SAY WE COULD WAIT IT OUT OR TRADE IT IN AND BASICALLY TACK ON THE AMOUNT OWED ON TO THE PURCHASE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION. THIS SITUATION IS VERY INCONVENIENT AS I USE THE VEHICLE PRIMARILY TO COMMUTE TO WORK AND IF UNABLE TO DRIVE TO WORK OUR HOUSEHOLD INCOME WILL TAKE A HUGE BLOW. WE SEEK REMEDY. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AIR PRESSURE SENSING TIRE VALVES THAT ARE MADE OF A SUBSTANDARD METAL THAT CORRODES AND BRAKES. THE FIRST TIME I HAD AN ISSUE THE TIP OF THE VALVE BROKE AND THE TIRE COULD NOT BE INFLATED. THE SECOND TIME, TODAY, THE VALVE BROKE IN HALF AND THE TIRE DEFLATED IN ABOUT TEN SECONDS. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING. I REPLACED THE PART AT THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME AND THEY STATED IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE PART AND THAT A NEW PART HAD BEEN MADE THAT WOULD NOT CORRODE. THE FACT THAT IT HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OF THE FOUR SENSORS SHOWS THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. CLEARLY SUCH A BLOW OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WOULD HAVE PUT MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE NEAR ME IN JEOPARDY. *TR

AFTER APPLICATION OF SAFETY RECALL N23/ NHTSA 13V-175. REPROGRAM FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE. 2005 - 2010. (WK) JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. 2006 - 2010. (XK) JEEP COMMANDER, THE TRANSFER CASE OF OUR GRAND CHEROKEE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED OUT OF 4-HIGH TO 4-LOW. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO USE THE VEHICLE TO LAUNCH A 7000 POUND SAIL BOAT ON A MARINA LAUNCH RAMP ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AFTER THE N23 REPROGRAM WAS MADE BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THIS DEMONSTRATES THE SOFTWARE IS DEFECTIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS BY CREATING AN UNEXPECTED SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
