MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON I-40 BETWEEN RALEIGH AND WILMINGTON. SHE WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT AND THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND WE HAVE HAD IT INTO 2 DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIPS. I DROVE DOWN AND PICKED HER UP AND DROVE THE CAR 90 MILES FURTHER ON I-40 WITHOUT INCIDENT. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN WILMINGTON AND EXITED THE INTERSTATE I NOTICED WHAT I BELIEVE WAS THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFT BEING ABRUPT AND JERKY. *TR

STARTED VEHICLE AND BACKED OUT OF GARAGE. DROVE DOWN STREET APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS WHEN ALL LIGHTS (DOME LIGHTS, INSTRUMENT LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS) FLICKERED MOMENTARILY. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE IN THE COURSE OF 400-500 FEET. STEERING AND CONTROL OF VEHICLE SEEMED UNCHANGED AS I TURNED AROUND AND DROVE BACK HOME. THE ONLY WARNING LIGHTS THAT REMAINED ON WERE THE ESP BAS AND THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCS) INDICATOR LIGHT. SERVICE SHOP COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE FAULT, THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE IGNITION, AND RECOMMENDED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP ALSO COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE FAULT. *TR
VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE IS IDLING OR AT SPEED -ANY SPEED. THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN, STEERING LOCKS UP AND BRAKES SHUT OFF. SECONDARY SYSTEMS LIKE RADIO AND FANS WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE BUT THERE IS OTHERWISE NO POWER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING ON AND OFF FOR TWO YEARS. DEALER AND MECHANIC BOTH COULD NOT FIND SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, AN ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD FROM DISTRIBUTOR/SPARK PLUGS THEORIZED AS THE CULPRIT. ADDING SHIELDING TO THE PCM COMPUTER CABLES AND GROUNDING IT SEEMS TO HAVE MITIGATED THE ISSUE, HOWEVER IT IS STILL SPORADIC AND HAS CAUSED NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS WITH PEDESTRIANS, MOTORISTS AND STATIONARY OBJECTS WHILE MAKING TURNS. *TR

HI, I HAVE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK. I HAVE CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER CONCERNING THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE EXPRESSED OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE. MY TRUCK WILL WITHOUT WARNING BEGIN TO WANT TO STOP AS IF I AM GLIDING THEN ACCELERATES RANDOMLY. THE 800 # SENT ME TO A SERVICE CENTER THAT UPDATED SYSTEM COMPUTER UPGRADES BUT IT OBVIOUSLY HAS NOT HELPED THE SITUATION. I AM A SINGLE MORE OF 5 THAT HAS NOT OPTION BUT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE FOR WORK AND TO TAKE MY CHILDREN PLACES. THEY ONLY ANSWER IS THAT I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE PART IS AVAILABLE. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. SOMETIME ALL OF MY SHIFT LIGHTS WILL GO ON AT ONE TIME AND MY MALFUNCTION LIGHT NOW STAYS ON. HI I AM IN CANADA BUT MY ISSUE BELOW AFFECT DOZENS OF VEHICLES I KNOW OF IN THE USA I SEE THAT YOU ARE INVESTIGATING THE 2014-2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE NOT GOING INTO PARK. I ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH MY 2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO DIESEL WITH MERCEDES ENGINE AS HAVE MANY OTHERS WHO ARE ONLINE . I HAVE PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND HAD IT ROLL AWAY ON A SEVERAL OCCASIONS (MORE THAN 7). I HAVE HAD MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT 3 TIMES, TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION REPLACED COMPLETELY FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. IT HAPPENS PRIMARILY IN THE WINTER BELOW 30 DEGREES (-4C). I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE AND HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH MANY OWNERS ACROSS THE USA. IT ALSO HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES, ENGINE REDLINING IF CRUISE IS ON THEN THE TRANSMISSION GOING INTO LIMP MODE, REQUIRING ME TO CUT ACROSS TRAFFIC UNDER NO POWER TO THE SHOULDER AND TURNING OFF AND ON THE CAR (TO RESET LIMP MODE) TO GET GOING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN 50 TIMES, SOMETIMES COMING VERY CLOSE TO COLLISION AS THE VEHICLE SLOWS QUICKLY WHEN POWER FAILS. MY MECHANIC SAYS ITS SOFTWARE OR ELECTRONICRELATED BUT THE DEALER SAYS ALL SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE. I HAVE SPENT ALMOST $9,000.00 TO DATE TRYING TO FIND THIS AND NO ONE HAS A CLUE. COMMON BELIEF IS THAT BEST SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH (IRONICALLY SAME ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN RECENTLY RECALLED BY CHRYSLER, BUT NOT YET FIXED VIA MANY DEALERSHIP'S SERVICES DESPITE SEVERAL NOTICES THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE.) SEEMS VERY IRRESPONSIBLE FOR MANUFACTURERS /DEALERS SERVICE TO ALLOW THIS RISKY DEFECT TO CONTINUE TO OCCUR FOR YEARS WITHOUT A COMMON FORMAL RESOLUTION FOR DEALERSHIPS TO ADHERE TO. CONSUMERS ARE LEFT TO SCRAMBLE AS BEST THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH TO RESOLVE WHILE SOME DEALER SERVICE CENTERS AND MECHANICS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE PEOPLE BY OVERCHARGING THEM FOR FIXES THAT DON'T RESOLVE THE TRUE PROBLEM. I HAVE 2 RECALLS FROM JEEP AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE FOR YEARS, THEY ARE P41/NHTSA 14V-438 AND P73. EVERY TIME I GO INTO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAY THEY CAN'T GET THE PARTS. THE FORMS THEY SEND OUT DON'T HAVE A DATE ON THEM SO THEY ARE SMART ENOUGH NOT TO HAVE ANY INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE AS TO HOW LONG THE CUSTOMER SITS ON THESE AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT OR THE CUSTOMER SELLS THE CAR AND THE PAPER WORK GETS LOST. THESE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS NEED TO BE JACKED UP A LITTLE BIT AND BE GIVEN AN ULTIMATUM TO GET THESE RECALLS FIXED BEFORE SOMETHING SERIOUS IS CAUSED BY THERE CRIMINAL INTENT TO NOT TO FIX THESE RECALLS.
