HAS BEEN HAPPENING OFF AND ON SINCE PURCHASING CAR USED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, USUALLY BUMPY ROAD, CAR TURNS OFF- DEAD. HAVE HAD IT FIXED TWICE BEFORE. FOUND TO BE KEY AND IGNITION SWITCH (APRIL 2013) NOW DOING IT AGAIN. DEALERSHIP REPORTED TO ME SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A DODGE CARAVAN. REPORT THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. WILL DO THIS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. VERY RANDOM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 15 VEHICLE ENGINE STARTED TO SHIFT BACK AND FORTH. ALL THE SUDDEN ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT WHEN VEHICLE REACH A CERTAIN SPEED AS IT DECELERATE. ENGINE COMMENCE TO SHIFT BACK AND FORTH. VEHICLE SPEED DECELERATE AND ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS. VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BAD CAMSHAFT SENSOR. SENSOR WAS REPLACED BUT VEHICLE STILL DECELERATING AND SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. I'M TAKING VEHICLE IN TOMORROW, BUT PRAY THE FIX THE PROBLEM. ONLY TRANSPORTATION BUT FAMILY SAFETY AT RISK! *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN VEHICLE OFF THE KEY BECOMES TRAPPED IN THE IGNITION AND WILL NOT COME OUT UNTIL THE KEY TURNED TO THE ON THEN TO OFF POSITION SEVERAL TIMES. AT TIMES THE VEHICLE STARTS ON ITS OWN EVEN WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AT ALL AND THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND IN DRIVE ON THE ROADWAY THAT YOU HEAR THE IGNITION AREA BY THE KEY CLICKING AGAIN AND AGAIN. THIS CAUSES THE ALARM SYSTEM LIGHT TO COME ON AND FLASH THEN GO OFF AND NO AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND BECOMING HARDER TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. SO FAR THE VEHICLE HAS NOT STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING BUT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT MUCH SINCE OUT OF FEAR THIS MAY HAPPEN WITH ME MY WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN INSIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER SEVERAL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V567000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 57,000-58,000 MILES IN 2011. TWO SEPARATE FRONT END COLLISONS AT ABOVE 35 MPH WITH DEER IN RURAL AREA. NO AIR BAG EVER DEPLOYED IN MAY 2014 WITH MILEAGE AT APPROXIMATELY 109,852 THE KEY WOULD LOCK IN THE IGNITION AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, DASH LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON AND SHIFTER COULD BE MOVED. TOOK TO MALOY FORD IN JASPER, ALABAMA. THEY "REPAIRED" USING A "WIN KIT - TRANSMITTERS AND WIN" IT HAS BEEN WORKING SINCE THAT TIME. QUESTION: IS THE IGNITION REPAIRED? IS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STILL IN NEED OF THE RECALL PART THAT WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE AT TIME OF NOTIFICATION OF RECALL? *TR
AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN TWO SEPARATE FRONT END COLLISIONS KEY LOCKED IN IGNITION AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. *TR
KEY WOULD BE LOCKED IN IGNITION AIRBAGS DO NOT DEPLOY AT COLLISIONS ABOVE 35 MPH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 5-10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,088. UPDATED 9/4/14*CN THE DEALER INSTALLED A NEW IGNITION MODULE. UPDATED 11/18/14
WHEN TURNING OFF THE JEEP THE KEY WON'T RELEASE FOR SOMETIMES 10 MIN UP TO NOT AT ALL AND I MUST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING 9 MONTHS, WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER THEY CHARGED ME ABOUT $200.00 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT TOLD US NOTHING, SO I PAID TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG BUT OFFERED TO SELL ME PARTS THAT THEY THOUGHT MIGHT HELP BUT NO GUARANTEE. I CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR IF THERE WAS A RECALL, THEY SAID NO. ABOUT OCTOBER I GOT THE RECALL IN THE MAIL SAYING WHEN THE HAD THE PARTS THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. TODAY AFTER BEING STRANDED FOR THE THIRD TIME WITH A DEAD BATTERY I CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF PARTS ARE IN TO DO THE REPAIR, THEY SAID NO HAD NO IDEA OF WHEN THEY WILL BE. THIS IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION AND I HAVE MEDICAL ISSUES THAT HAVE PUT ME I THE HOSPITAL 3 TIMES, I NEED RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. CHRYSLER REP SAID THE WILL NOT SUPPLY A RENTAL OR REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WHILE THEY FIGURE THIS OUT. WHAT AM I TO DO. *JS
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WOULDN'T RESTART FOR SEVERAL TRIES THEN FINALLY DID. NEVER STALLED AGAIN UNTIL RECENTLY. SOMETIMES IT STARTS IN NEUTRAL OTHER TIMES IT HAS TO BE PUT IN PARK. UPON RESTART VEHICLE DRIVES AS IF NOTHING HAS EVER HAPPENED. IT NOW STALLS AT IDLE OR WHEN ACCELERATING OR EVEN WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY RATE OF SPEED. I HAVE BEEN PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE KEY POSITION AND IT SEEMS NORMAL IN THE ON POSITION AND DOESN'T SEEM TO BE THE REASON BEHIND THIS ERRATIC STALL SITUATION. NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF SIMILAR SITUATIONS HAVE BEEN NOTED HERE AND ON OTHER WEBSITES. I KEEP MY VEHICLE WELL MAINTAINED AND TUNED, IT RUNS GREAT. MANY TIMES WEEKS OR MONTHS GO BY WITHOUT ANY STALLS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HWY ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD FLICKERED ON, AND THEN THE CAR LOST POWER. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THE, AND WE HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT IN 3 MONTHS. CHRYSLER SENT US A RECALL NOTICE LAST YEAR, BUT STILL HAS NOT MANUFACTURED A PART TO REPLACE THIS SAFETY RECALL. RECALL # P57 / NHTSA 14V-567. SINCE THIS PROBLEM STARTED I HAVE WASTED TIME AND MONEY TRYING TO HAVE IT REPAIRED..... AND IT KEEPS ON HAPPENING. JEEP DEALERS SHOULD ISSUE LOANER CARS, UNTIL THEY HAVE A PART TO FIX THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE KEY FOB IN THE OFF POSITION AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER TEN MINUTES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
CHRYSLER ISSUED A RECALL (N23) FOR PROBLEMS WITH JEEP TRANSFER CASES SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL UNEXPECTEDLY. I'VE SEEN NO POSTS WHERE THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT, I HAD THE RECALL DONE. IMMEDIATELY PEOPLE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH 4LO NO LONGER WORKING, AND "SERVICE 4WD" MESSAGES SHOWING ON THE DASH. THESE ARE MY SYMPTOMS ALSO. PEOPLE THAT FLAT TOW THE JEEP BEHIND A MOTOR HOME COULD NO LONGER SWITCH THE TRANSFER CASE TO NEUTRAL (IRONIC HUH?). WHAT DOES CHRYSLER DO? THEY DON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR PROBLEM. A YEAR AFTER THE FIASCO STARTED, THE DEALER THAT DID MY RECALL DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE? APPARENTLY CHRYSLER DEALERS LOADED DEFECTIVE SOFTWARE OR INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE IMPROPERLY. THE SOFTWARE CANNOT BE UNLOADED AND REVERTED TO BEFORE THE RECALL. CHRYSLER'S ANSWER WHEN I CALLED 800 NUMBER YESTERDAY, OVER A YEAR SINCE THIS RECALL FIASCO STARTED, WAS FOR ME TO PAY THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE SYMPTOM AND IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS CORRECT, THEY'LL RELOAD THE SOFTWARE...AFTER I'VE PAID THE SERVICE CALL! THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF POSTS ON LINE ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE N23 RECALL, BOTH ON AUTOMOTIVE SITES AND RV SITES FROM OWNERS THAT FLAT TOW THEM. AND CHRYSLER HAS THEIR HEAD IN THE SAND...OR ELSEWHERE. THIS IS THE BIGGEST SCAM. PER THE POSTS, CHRYSLER IS CHARGING PEOPLE THOUSANDS TO REPLACE COMPONENTS WHEN IT'S THE RECALL THAT STARTED THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IMMEDIATELY WHEN TRYING TO ACTUATE 4 LO. IT DOESN'T GO INTO 4 LO AND THE SERVICE 4WD MESSAGE OCCURS ON THE INFORMATION CENTER. I HAD TO SHOW THE DEALER THE SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER CALLING ATTENTION TO THE PROBLEM, FROM POSTS ON THE WEB. THAT TELLS ME THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT EVEN INFORMING THEIR OWN DEALERS ABOUT THE PROBLEM CREATED BY THE N23 RECALL. AND THE QUADRATRAC II TRANSFER CASE WITH THE 4LO CAPABILITY IS AN OPTION UPGRADE. THE RECALL TAKES AWAY THIS FUNCTIONALITY! *TR
I HAVE A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DIESEL LIMITED TWO WHEEL DRIVE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 92,289 MILES. AT 93,290 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHICH ACCORDING TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE EEG VALVE AND BATTERY WAS BAD. SO I REPLACED THE GR VALVE IN THE BATTERY. PERIODICALLY SINCE THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN GO OFF. ON A TRIP TO OHIO THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR DIED ON THE FREEWAY DURING A RAINSTORM. IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE AIRFLOW CONTROL VALVE WAS BAD, BUT THEY NEEDED TO PULL THE BATTERY OUT AND DISCONNECT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE TO GET A TRUE READING AND MAKE SURE IT WAS THE AIRFLOW CONTROL VALVE. THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE IS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE BATTERY. UPON PULLING THE BATTERY AND BOX THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT THERE WAS BATTERY ACID ON THE POWER CONTROL MODULE AND ON THE WIRING HARNESS THAT CONNECTS TO THE POWER CONTROL MODULE. I WAS TOLD THAT IN ORDER TO GET PROPER READINGS THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS FOR A TOTAL COST OF $2091. AND THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT AFTER THIS WAS DONE THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO CHECK TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OTHER PROBLEM. I BELIEVE ALL THE PROBLEMS MAY HAVE BEEN FALSE READINGS BECAUSE BATTERY ACID HAD EATEN THROUGH THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND DAMAGED THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR, CAUSING FALSE READINGS WHEN HOOKED UP TO THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. I DO NOT HAVE $3000 A MONTH TO INVEST IN THIS VEHICLE TO CONTINUE TO FIND ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS. PLEASE HELP ME!!! *TR
I WAS PURCHASING A USED JEEP CHEROKEE 4X4, AND HAD COMPLETED A FULL AND DETAILED INSPECTION OF THE UNIT ON APR 28TH, 2014. I HAD TESTED THE 4 LOW AND IT WORKED FINE. THE UNIT WAS TO GO INTO CHRYSLER ON THE APR 29TH FOR THE N23 RECALL PRIOR TO MY PICKING UP THE UNIT THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE N23 RECALL WAS COMPLETED AND APR 30TH I PICKED UP THE JEEP. THE NEXT DAY AGAIN TESTED THE 4 LOW AND NOW THE SERVICE 4WD LIGHT CAME ON. THE JEEP HAD NOT BEEN USED AT ALL SINCE THE RECALL OTHER THAN A VERY SHORT DRIVE HOME. *TR
HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS JEEP. PURCHASED IT AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER FOR SERVICE A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT. MAIN ISSUE IS THE CAR DOES NOT START WHEN I TURN THE KEY FOB. HAVE GOT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, ONCE IN MAY 2014, AGAIN IN JULY 2014 AND AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER 2014. DEALER CANNOT FIND SOLUTION TO FIX. COINCIDENTALLY, I RECEIVE A NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER IN NOVEMBER 2014, NOTICE NUMBER P57 WHICH STATES THERE IS A RECALL ON THE IGNITION! I WENT FOR (3) WEEKS IN MAY AND A FULL MONTH IN JULY WITH A LOANER! FOUR MONTHS AFTER I RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE, THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED. MY ''AD HOC'' SOLUTION WHEN CAR DOES NOT START IS TO SLAM THE DOOR WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION POSITION. THIS SEEMS TO START THE CAR. PITIFUL THAT THIS IS HOW I MUST START THE CAR NOW AS THERE SEEMS TO BE NOTHING ELSE I CAN DO... *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD NORMALLY NO NOISES, VEHICLE WENT TO A COMPLETE STOP. I WOULDN'T START. WE TRY STARTING IT, DEAD STARTER AND BATTERY. BOUGHT A NEW STARTER AND NEW BATTERY ENGINE DOES NOT TURN AT ALL. ENGINE COMPLETELY STIFF. WENT TO THE SHOP, WE TRY TO TURN THE ENGINE BY HAND; COMPLETELY STIFF. THE DEALER IN PORT AU PRINCE, HAITI (SAFARI MOTORS) HAS MANY JEEP CHEROKEE WITH THE SAME ISSUE THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO AND CLIENTS ARE FRUSTRATED, VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE DEALER AND ALSO MOPAR OF AMERICA. THEY WILL NOT HELP ANYONE WITH A KNOWN ISSUE THIS VEHICLE HAS ALL AROUND THE WORLD. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 55 MILES PER HOUR ON SOUTHERN BLVD. IN WEST PALM BEACH THE KEY TURNED FROM THE ON TO THE OFF POSITION. THIS CAUSED A LOCKUP OF THE STEERING AND BRAKES. THE AUTOMOBILE RETURNED TO FULL FUNCTION WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED BACK TO THE VERTICAL POSITION. THERE WERE NO KEYS OR WEIGHT HANGING FROM THE KEY AND IT JUST CLICKED OFF. THIS CONDITION WAS RECENTLY REPAIRED AT ARRIGO DODGE ON OKEECHOBEE BLVD. THE KEY NOW STICKS IN THE IGNITION. THE RADIO FAILED SOON AFTER AND IT WAS NOTED THAT FUSE 27 & 28 WERE COVERED IN LITHIUM GREASE FROM THE PRIOR REPAIR WHICH STOPPED THE FUSE FROM MAKING CONTACT WITH THE PLUG. CLEANING RESTORED THE RADIO FUNCTION, BUT KEY IS STILL STUCK IN THE IGNITION. LATER, THE COMPUTER STATED "KEY DAMAGED". *JS UPDATED 04/13/15. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ACTUATOR MODE SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE N23 SAFETY RECALL AND MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM NO LONGER WORKS. THE WORK JEEP DID TO FIX THE RECALL HAS REMOVED CRITICAL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE PREVIOUSLY ENTERED A SIMILAR COMPLAINT FOR THIS SAME VEHICLE. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS/SHUTS OFF FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING. CHRYSLER IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A RELIABLE FIX. THIS BEGAN IN MAY 2012 - MY VEHICLE SIMPLY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IN ANY NUMBER OF CONDITIONS WHETHER IT BE ON THE HIGHWAY, SIDE ROADS, ETC. I REMOVED ALL EXCESS KEYS FROM MY KEY RING TO ENSURE THAT IT WAS NOT THE KEY BEING TOO HEAVY. BROUGHT THIS IN TO MY DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED THE WIN CONTROL MODULE BUT COULDN'T GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE STALLED ONCE WHILE DRIVING UNEXPECTEDLY ABOUT 9 MONTHS LATER. THEN VEHICLE STOPPED TWICE IN OCTOBER 2013. AT THAT TIME I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THEY AT FIRST WANTED TO REPLACE THE WIN MODULE. WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT WAS THE FIX FROM BEFORE AND IT DIDN'T WORK, THEY ADVISED THAT THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE BE REPLACED, AS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS BUT MY VEHICLE WAS ONE DAY PAST THE DATE OF MANUFACTURING IMPACT IN THE RECALL, BUT WAS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. REPLACED FRONT CONTROL MODULE IN OCTOBER 2013. VEHICLE STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AGAIN TWICE IN MARCH 2014 - ON MARCH 20TH AND MARCH 21ST. VEHICLE IS BACK AT THE DEALER WHERE THEY AGAIN WANT TO REPLACE THE WIN MODULE. AGAIN, THIS FIX WAS PROVIDED PREVIOUSLY AND DID NOT FIX THE CAR. EITHER THE WINS BEING PRODUCED BY CHYRSLER ARE ALL FAULTY AND I SOMEHOW HAVE GOTTEN 2 IN A ROW OR THERE IS AN UNDERLYING ISSUE THAT CANNOT BE FOUND OR ADDRESSED. THIS ISSUE IS VERY PREVALENT WITH 2008 GRAND CHEROKEES. CHRYSLER IS SITTING ON A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM (HAD WORKED ON PREVIOUS GRAND CHEROKEES AND EVEN HAD THE CHRYSLER ENGINEERS OUT TO TRY AND HELP THEM). THEY DID INSPECTIONS ON MY VEHICLE FOR 5 DAYS AND SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND ANYTHING OUT FROM THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT CHRYSLER. I WAS EVENTUALLY GIVEN TO A CASE MANAGER. THEY INITIALLY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AND NOW THEY KEEP DELAYING GETTING BACK TO ME. THIS HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS WITH NO SOLUTION IN SIGHT. WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THIS JEEP INTO 4X4 LOW RANGE A MESSAGE POPPED UP IN THE INTERMENT CLUSTER THAT SAID "SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE". THE JEEP WOULD NOT SHIFT TO 4X4 LOW RANGE AND LOCK THE DIFFERENTIAL AND DRIVE THROUGH THE DRY WASH TO SAFETY. THIS PROBLEM IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE "SAFETY RECALL N23 / NHTSA 13V-175 REPROGRAM FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE" THAT A JEEP SERVICE CENTER HAD PERFORMED. THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE (FDCM) (N23 / NHTSA 13V-175) RE-PROGRAMMING THAT I HAD PERFORMED AT A JEEP SERVICE CENTER CAUSED THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE LEFT MY WIFE DEAD. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL IT WOULD NOT MOVE AND I WOULD GET A 'SERVICE 4W SYSTEM' ERROR MESSAGE. WE TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THE TRANSFER CASE MODULE WAS BAD. THE WORST NEWS WAS THERE WERE NONE TO BE FOUND WITHIN HUNDREDS OF MILES AND I HAD NO POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. TEN DAYS LATER AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT PART. THIS IS THE PART THAT WAS 'REPROGRAMMED' AS PART OF THE SAFETY RECALL N23/NHTSA 13V-175. THE CONSUMER FILED A CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER, AND FIVE WEEKS LATER THE PART ARRIVED, AND WAS EVENTUALLY INSTALLED. LATE APRIL 2014, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO TOWABLE MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED AGAIN. THE DEALER GUARANTEED THAT IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. BUT, IT DID HAPPEN AGAIN, AND A WARNING APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, THAT READ SERVICE 4-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THERE WAS NO PERMANENT FIX AT THE MOMENT. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE VEHICLE DID NOT START. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY HAD TO BE TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION THEN BACK TO THE ON POSITION IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION UNLESS THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION AND BACK TO THE ON POSITION. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY IN COLD WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
JEEP HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR MOTOR. LAST FALL, 9-19-13 I BROUGHT IT IN FOR A RECALL, NUMBER N23. PRIOR TO THE RECALL I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY JEEP AND I HAD TOWED IT UP TO ALASKA AND BACK, OVER 7,000 MI. THIS WINTER WE DECIDED TO SPEND IT IN ARIZONA. ABOUT 2 MONTHS INTO IT IS WHEN WE GET A SERVICE MESSAGE TO HAVE OUR 4WD SYSTEM LOOKED AT AND THAT IT WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL FOR TOWING PURPOSES. SO I GET ON THE INTERNET FORUMS AND FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AND NOT SHIFTING INTO 4 LOW ALSO. THEY TOO HAD NOT HAD ANY TROUBLES UNTIL THEY HAD TAKEN THEIR VEHICLES IN FOR THE RECALL FIX WHICH, WAS A REFLASH OF THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE. THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR ARE ON BACKORDER FROM JEEP AT ONE PER DEALER EVERY 14 DAYS. AND I GET TO SHELL OUT $500.00 FOR A PROBLEM THAT DIDN'T EXIST UNTIL THE RECALL. OH, I HAD TOWED THE JEEP SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE ALASKA TRIP IN 2011. THE BIGGER PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS WHO DON'T EVER TAKE THEIR JEEP'S OFF ROAD OR TOW IT BEHIND SOMETHING SO THEY DON'T GET THE TROUBLE MESSAGE UNTIL THEY DO AND THEY NEED IT. THAT MEANS THERE ARE MILLIONS OF JEEP OWNERS THAT DON'T KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. *TR
JEEP STALLED IN TRAFFIC. HAD TO QUICKLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART. HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP PROBABLY 7 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND STILL HASN'T BEEN FIXED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,750.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
