HAVE BEEN TOLD BY 2 JEEP DEALERSHIPS THAT REASON FOR MY JEEP SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING IS IN THE ELECTRICAL WITH THE KEY SWITCH. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS BUT JEEP DOESN'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX. THERE ARE MORE NON SAFETY ISSUES CAUSED BY THIS PROBLEM SUCH AS THE NAV SCREEN & BACK UP CAMERA NOT WORKING AS WELL AS RADIO/GPS. MY JEEP JUST SHUT OFF ON I-40 & I-75 AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON 2 DIFFERENT TIMES FOR A PERIOD OF 2 YRS. OF COURSE, THERE IS NO WARNING. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I ABOUT GOT RAN OVER MY A TRACTOR TRAILER. THIS IS MY WORK VEHICLE AND I SHOW PROPERTIES WITH IT DAILY. I AM WIDOWED AND AM ON A BUDGET. I HAVE CALLED & EMAILED (CHRYSLER CUSTOMER # KMM 9079662V48259L0KM) FOR HELP SEVERAL TIMES. I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE MY LIFE OR SOMEBODY ELSE'S LIFE BECAUSE CHRYSLER WILL NOT MANUFACTURE A PART UNTIL PEOPLE ARE DEAD! I APPRECIATE ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM.
ON 11-20-13, CAR DIED AT A STOP SIGN AT NORTHBOUND BRADSHAW AT SHELDON IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA. CAR WAS TOWED TO AUTO SHOP IN LOOMIS, CA. SINCE 11-20-13, THIS VEHICLE HAS DIED A TOTAL OF 8 TIMES, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 0 MPH TO 65 MPH. ON TWO OCCASIONS, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF WEST BOUND I-80 NEAR ROCKLIN, CA, GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP AT AUTONATION CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM IN ROSEVILLE, CA ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CAR WAS DELIVERED TO AUTONATION ON 9-17-14 (TWO DAYS AGO), AND THEIR SHOP WILL, ONCE AGAIN, TRY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
SO THE STARTER HAS BEEN A ISSUE EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM MY FATHER 2 YEARS AGO. THE KEY SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM SINCE I GOT THE STARTER REBUILT. IT JUST DOESN'T START AND WILL TURN OFF AT TIMES FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHICH WOULD SCARE EVERYONE IN THE CAR. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS A RECALL BECAUSE THERE SHOULD BE. *TR
HAD N23 RECALL DONE IN SEPTEMBER 2013 IN NOVEMBER 2013 WHEN I WAS GOING TO TOW CHEROKEE BEHIND MOTORHOME WOULD NOT GO INTO NEUTRAL IN TRANSFER CASE. DEALERSHIP REPLACE ACTUATOR. JANUARY 2014 SAME PROBLEM, DEALERSHIP REPLACED ACTUATOR AGAIN, THEY SAID THE ONE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED WAS BAD. FEBRUARY 2014 SAME PROBLEM, DEALERSHIP REFLASHED TCM. MAY 2014, SAME PROBLEM, REFLASHED TCM AGAIN. LATER MAY 2014, SAME PROBLEM, DEALERSHIP OPENED TICKET WITH STAR ENGINEERS, CHECKED EVERY WIRE HARNESS, CONNECTION IN TRANSFER CASE AND ACTUATOR. NOW JUNE, SAME PROBLEM...MY QUESTION CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE ONLY HELPS COMMUNICATING WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT EMAIL THE STAR ENGINEERS. WHY HAVEN'T THEY LOOKED AT THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE, THAT IS WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE RECALL??? SINCE THE NEW MODELS ARE OK WHAT CHANGED FROM THE 2008 TO THE 2011 AND NEWER??? NEED HELP!! CHRYSLER NEEDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE CHEROKEE IS SUCH A POPULAR VEHICLE TO TOW. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE 56K MILES ON A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HEMI 8CYLINDER I DO NOT DO ANY OFF ROADING I AM TOLD TODAY THAT I NEED AN UPPER DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING INSULATOR AND PINION SEALS WHICH ARE LEAKING. THESE PRODUCTS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 56K IN MILES AND ARE A CONSIDERABLE COST TO THE CONSUMER FOR A 5 YEAR OLD JEEP. THERE ARE SEVERAL BULLETINS OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT JEEP DID NOT CONSIDER HELPING ME BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF MY 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WHICH IS CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS. HID HEADLAMPS LEVELERS FAILED, MAKING LIGHTS SHINE DOWN AT ROAD, AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE WHEN DARK. NO INDICATION OF PROBLEM UNTIL OUT DRIVING WHEN IT TURNED DARK. LIGHTS SHINE OUT LESS THAN 30 FEET FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE. FOG LIGHTS LIGHT FARTHER THAN HEADLAMPS. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM - THE LIGHT COMES ON MOST OF THE TIME. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL MECHANICS BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I THINK THIS STARTED AFTER I GOT A NEW BATTERY. CAR RUNS OTHERWISE OK. *TR
THE JEEP STALLS ON THE FREEWAY. WHILE DRIVING THE JEEP ON THE INTERSTATE, IT STALLED AND RESTARTED SUDDENLY. THIS WAS FELT BY A SUDDEN LOSS OF FORWARD MOMENTUM. THE JEEP AT TIMES STALLS FLAT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND NEEDS TO BE STOPPED TO RESTART. THIS HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS SINCE JANUARY 2013 AND IT STILL STALLS. *TR
AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE SERVICED FOR THE N23 RECALL, THE SERVICE 4WHEEL DRIVE INDICATOR HAS BEEN COMING ON AND I NO LONGER HAVE 4 LOW. IT IS AT THE SERVICE CENTER AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE RECALL IS EITHER NOT PERFORMED PROPERLY OR ISN'T AN ADEQUATE FIX TO THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND IS CREATING I UNINTENDED PROBLEMS. *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JEEP ON 10/10/2013 DUE TO THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON. THERE WERE 112,988 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR THIS, $400, AS WELL AS BRAKE PADS, AND DIAGNOSTICS, $600.63. ON 10/21/13, AT 113,851 MILES, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND HAD TO BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THERE WAS NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE AS THE VEHICLE WAS JUST SEEN FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE. I RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION IN THE MAIL THE WEEK OF 8/17/2015 FROM FCA ON THE STATUS OF THE P57/NHTSA 14-567 RECALL FOR THE WIRELESS IGNITION MODULE (WIN). UPON READING THE RECALL NOTIFICATION SENT OUT, FCA RECOGNIZES THAT THE "WIN POSITION SPRING BACK MAY ALSO CAUSE THE DISABLING OF ONE OR MORE OF THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY FEATURES INCLUDING THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS." AT APPROXIMATELY 120,000 MILES, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OFF AGAIN AND WAS INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED UNTIL 123,000 MILES, WHERE THE LIGHT HAS STAYED CONTINUOUSLY ON. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER TO INQUIRE IF THEY HAD PARTS, AND THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK FOR THE RECALL, BUT I WAS ADDED TO A WAITING LIST. UPON REQUESTING INFORMATION ON THE AIRBAG, I WAS IMMEDIATELY TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGHT HE NOTIFICATION SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED THE AIRBAGS. THE CLERK GAVE ME A 1-800 NUMBER FOR JEEP. I CALLED THE JEEP 1-800 NUMBER AND WAS CONNECTED TO AN AGENT WHOM I INQUIRED ABOUT THE AIRBAG AS WELL AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO DIAGNOSE THE AIRBAG. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY TO DIAGNOSE THE AIRBAG IF THE RECALL NOTIFICATION MENTIONS THAT THE AIRBAGS COULD HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. I FEEL THAT JEEP SHOULD BE DIAGNOSING THE AIRBAGS ON THE CUSTOMER'S BEHALF. THIS RECALL HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST A YEAR WITH THEM JUST GETTING TO A RESOLUTION. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD WANT TO GO THE EXTRA MILE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. IN ADDITION, THE IGNITION KEY BECAME SLIGHTLY STUCK AND, AFTER ENGAGING A SECOND TIME, THE KEY FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V567000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
WE ARE FULL TIME RVERS AND HAVE TOWED OUR JEEP ABOUT 40,000 MILES WITHOUT ANY ISSUES, UNTIL THE RECENT RECALL. NHTSA #13V75000, CHRYSLER N23. THE VERY INNOCUOUS RECALL NOTICE SPOKE OF THE DOT REQUIRING THE RECALL BASED ON A NUMBER OF CASES WHERE THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL ON IT'S OWN AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY, CAUSING DAMAGE. THE RECALL WENT ON TO SAY THAT THE FIX WAS TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR A SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMING TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. THE RECALL NOTICE WAS VERY CAREFULLY AND CLEVERLY WRITTEN TO LEAVE ONE WITH THE IMPRESSION THAT A SOFTWARE ISSUE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, AND JEEP WAS GOING TO FIX IT WITH THE REFLASH OF THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. THIS IS NOT TRUE. THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF HARDWARE IN THE TRANSFER CASE, AND THE ?FIX? OFFERED BY JEEP IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BAND AID TO MEET THE STRICT LETTER OF THE DEMAND BY THE NHTSA. AS THOUSANDS OF JEEP OWNERS ARE NOW LEARNING, AFTER THE RECALL THEY FIND THEMSELVES IN A SITUATION WHERE THE TRANSFER CASE WILL NO LONGER SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, OR 4WD LOW, AT ALL. I HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF DOZENS OF JEEP OWNERS WITH THESE ISSUES WHO NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE THE RECALL. THIS PROBLEM CREATES A GREAT UNCERTAINTY AMONG OWNERS. WE DON'T KNOW IF THE 4WD SYSTEM WILL WORK WHEN NEEDED, OR END UP STUCK IN NEUTRAL OR 4WD LOW, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE. WHILE NOT BEING ABLE TO TOW MAY NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE, I THINK THAT DISABLING A 4WD SYSTEM THAT MANY PEOPLE RELY ON IN BAD TERRAIN OR WEATHER WOULD BE. I DON'T THINK THAT NHTSA HAS MONITORED THIS SITUATION PROPERLY AND HAS ALLOWED CHRYSLER TO COMMIT WHAT AMOUNTS TO A FRAUD UPON THEIR CUSTOMERS. I THINK NHTSA NEEDS TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT THIS ISSUE. *TR
MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. LAST TIME WAS LAST WEEK 09/23/2013.THE CAR DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY CAN NOT RECREATE THIS AND THE COMPUTER IS NOT SHOWING ANYTHING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , POWER TRAIN) IN SEPTEMBER 2013. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE HE HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED, HE WAS UNABLE TO USE THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
I SWITCHED LANES TO THE RIGHT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN UP AHEAD WHEN MY ACCELERATOR WHEN INTO FULL THROTTLE! I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE WITH 1 FOOT AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I THEN USED MY 2 FEET AND STEPPED AS HARD AS I COULD & THE ENGINE KEPT GETTING LOUD AND WANTED TO GO FULL SPEED! I DOWN SHIFTED (MY AUTOMATIC VEHICLE) INTO FIRST GEAR AND PULLED UP MY EMERGENCY BRAKE AND STILL MY JEEP WOULDN'T STOP! THE ENGINE WAS FIGHTING AGAINST ME. IT FINALLY STARTED TO SLOW DOWN JUST BEFORE APPROACHING THE PARKED VEHICLE UP AHEAD WITH PASSENGER INSIDE. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE (THIS TIME) BUT NEARLY SUFFERED AN HEART ATTACK. *TR
I STARTED TO GET SERVICE 4 WD SYSTEM LIGHT THIS STARTED AFTER I HAD TAKEN VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL ABOUT TRANSFER CASE NEUTRAL PROBLEM. I HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE THIS HAD IT LOOKED AT BY CERTIFIED MECHANIC. HE CHECKED ALL SYSTEMS AND THEY CHECKED OUT OK HE CLEARED ERROR CODE. A DAY OR SO LATER IT RETURNED. HE SAID I SHOULD RETURN TO DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD TRANSFER CASE RANGE SENSOR. A DEEPER LOOK AND I FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME TROUBLE AFTER HAVING FLASH UPDATE FOR RECALL. THIS PART HAS A LARGE BACK ORDER ( I WAS TOLD BY DEALER PART OVER 500 PIECE ) AND THEY COULD ONLY ORDER ONE EVERY 14 DAYS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND BEGAN TO PERFORM NORMALLY, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ENGINE POWERED OFF AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THE TIPM MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND HEMI 5.7 STALLED AFTER A RAPID SUDDEN ACCELERATION. JEEP STARTED "BUCKING" (LOSING POWER AND REGAINING IT) THEN TOOK OFF WITHOUT ANYTHING TOUCHING GAS PEDAL AND NO WARNING. THE JEEP WENT FROM 30 MPH TO OVER 50 MPH AND KEPT ACCELERATING. I HAD TO THROW IN NEUTRAL TO GET IT TO STOP. I THEN PULLED OVER AND IT STALLED OUT. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO CHRYSLER CASE #[XXX] AND I SPOKE TO [XXX]. I WAS DRIVING THE JEEP AND IT ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AS IF THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK. THE THROTTLE PEDAL IN FACT WAS NOT STUCK AND I HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO GET IT TO STOP ACCELERATING. AFTER SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL, THE JEEP STALLED IN THE ROADWAY AND I ENDED UP DRIVING THROUGH MY NEIGHBOR'S YARD TO AVOID PULLING OUT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION AS I HAD NO BRAKES OR STEERING. I ALMOST RAN OVER A PEDESTRIAN I DIDN'T SEE WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO DEALERSHIPS MULTIPLE TIMES FOR STALLING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND STALLING WHEN DRIVING AROUND TOWN. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY WITH THE STALLING AND CHRYSLER IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. MOST RECENT CHRYSLER CASE # IS [XXX]. TIRES HAVE BEEN GETTING UN EVEN WEAR. TOOK VEHICLE TO CERTIFIED SHOP, THEY INFORM ME MY SUSPENSION IS GONE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD IT CANT BE BAD. VEHICLE ENGINE SHUTS OFF IF KEY FAB IS DISTURBED WHILE DRIVING. THREE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPEN IN THE PAST YEAR. ALL POWER IS LOST WHEN THIS OCCURS. I REMOVED ITEMS FROM KEY RING IN AN ATTEMPT TO TEMPORARILY STOP THIS SITUATION UNTIL A RECALL IS ANNOUNCED TO FIX THIS ISSUE PERMANENTLY. *JS
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF. I WAS NOT QUICK TO REACT AND WAS ALMOST KILLED IN A MULTIPLE CAR PILE-UP. A LARGE 18 WHEEL TRUCK AND TWO OTHER CARS LEFT THE ROADWAY TO AVOID HITTING ME. I WAS COMPLETELY HELPLESS AND COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE WAY. I PULLED OVER TO CALL MY DAD, BUT HE DIDN'T ANSWER. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT SHIFTED INTO DRIVE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I DROVE IT HOME ON THE ACCESS ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE NOW. MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SHOULD BE PART OF THIS RECALL --RECALL NUMBER: 13V175000. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY INDICATION OF WHY IT IS NOT. I BOUGHT A NEW 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STRAIGHT FROM THE DEALER. IN JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2013 I STARTED EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT INSTANCES OF THE VEHICLE POWERING DOWN & STOPPING WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I WOULD BE DRIVING AT 35MPH, AND OUT OF NOWHERE THE ELECTRICAL WOULD CEASE, THE TRUCK WOULD SEIZE UP, POWER DOWN AND WOULD COME TO A HALT. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER ON 6/27/13, HAD DIAGNOSTICS RUN. THE DEALER'S RECOMMENDATION WAS TO HAVE A NEW KEYFOB UNIT INSTALLED. THERE WAS AN INTERNAL DEFECT FOUND IN THE WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE. MODULE ON BACKORDER, SO ALTERNATE REPAIR OPTION GIVEN WHICH INCLUDED THE INSTALLATION AND PROGRAMMING OF A NEW REMOTE STARTER UNIT WHICH CAME WITH A NEW WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE AND TWO NEW KEYFOBS. PREVIOUS TO THIS I ALSO HAD A NEW BATTERY & SHOCKS PUT IN TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. TO DATE, STILL HAVING SAME ISSUE AND NOW THE "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT" INTERMITTENTLY APPEARS LIT ON MY DASH. I SEE JEEPS UP TO 2007 BEING INCLUDED IN THE LATEST 7/21/14 RECALL FOR "FAULTY IGNITION SWITCHES THAT CAUSE VEHICLES TO STALL" & I WANT TO ENSURE THAT THE 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S GET INCLUDED IN THE INVESTIGATION AS A RESULT OF MY FILED COMPLAINT. *TR
DRIVING AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT ON A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY, THE 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE MY WIFE WAS OPERATING, VIOLENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING SWERVED OFF THE ROAD. MY WIFE DESCRIBED THE EVENT AS "ALL THE WHEELS SUDDENLY STOPPED SPINNING". THE SUV FIRST WENT OFF THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, THEN SKIDDED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND SWERVED OFF THE LEFT SHOULDER, NEARLY ROLLING OVER AND COMING TO REST IN THE MEDIAN NEAR AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY EVALUATED. THE SERVICE MANAGER NOTED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. HE SURMISED THAT THE COMPONENT WAS ASSEMBLED "OUT OF SPEC" AND SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY. THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS REBUILT AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED. UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, MY WIFE WILL NOT DRIVE THIS SUV AGAIN. *TR

THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR STARTED TO LEAK AIR AROUND THE VALVE STEM. WHEN IT WAS REMOVED IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CHEAP ALUMINUM STEM HAD CORRODED AND THE STEM IN THE PROCESS OF BREAKING OFF COMPLETELY..IF IT HAD BROKEN OFF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TIRE WOULD HAVE DEFLATED IMMEDIATELY AND I WOULD BE IN BIG TROUBLE. PEOPLE AUTOMATICALLY THINK THAT ALUMINUM IS A GREAT METAL, BUT IT HAS TO BE ANODIZED OR ALLOYED TO GET CORROSION RESISTANCE. WE ALREADY HAD THE JEEP HOOD REPLACED BECAUSE OF CORROSION. THERE ARE "MARINE GRADE" ALLOYS AVAILABLE, BUT WHETHER THEY CAN BE CRAFTED INTO VALVE STEMS,I DUNNO. I SEE BY THE INTERNET, A GREAT INDUSTRY EVOLVED IN PROVIDING REPLACEMENT SENSORS. WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN A GREAT IDEA TO DEVELOP THESE DEVICES, I DON'T SEE A GREAT IDEA TO HAVING TO REPLACE THEM, WHAT, EVERY 2 OR 3 YEARS, AT 3 OR 4 HUNDRED A POP TO PRECLUDE BLOWING OUT THE TIRE. IF THEY ARE ONLY GOOD FOR A COUPLE YEARS, WHAT GOOD ARE THEY. I AM GOING TO PUT THE OLD RUBBER STEMS IN MINE !!!! ON JUNE 10 2013 WE PURCHASED A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. 6 DAYS AFTER THE 30 DAY WARRANTY EXPIRED, WAS THE BEGINNING OF A SERIES OF INCIDENTS THAT HAVE CONTINUED UNTIL NOW 6/3/2014. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE THE MOTOR DIED IN TRAFFIC. MY WIFE DROVE TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY DROVE THE VEHICLE BUT NOTHING HAPPENED AND TOLD HER IT WAS PROBABLY NOTHING AND NOT TO WORRY. BUT OVER TIME THE PROBLEM HAS WORSENED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE IGNITION IS ON, EVERYTHING IS WORKING, THEN THE IGNITION KICKS OFF, MOTOR DIES, AND STEERING IS LOST AND WE HAVE TO ROLL TO THE CURB AND RESTART THE ENGINE. DRIVE A FEW BLOCKS OR MAYBE A MILE OR TWO THEN THE IGNITION KICKS OFF AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE ON A FREEWAY HERE IN CALIFORNIA, LUCKILY CLOSE TO AN EXIT WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO ROLL OFF. NOW THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE A VERY LARGE SUM TO ANALYZE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND WE FEEL THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS AT THE TIME OF SALE. I RECEIVED IN LATE JUNE A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY VEHICLE, TITLED "SAFETY RECALL N23/NHTSA 13V-175 REPROGRAM FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER'S AUTO REPAIR SHOP, THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT THE ISSUE IS SOFTWARE RELATED AND THEY HAD NOT YET RECEIVED THE SOFTWARE PATCH. I TOOK MY VEHICLE AGAIN TO THEM IN EARLY JULY, MID JULY, LATE JULY AND EARLY AUGUST AND STILL THEY HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED THE SOFTWARE PATCH. *TR
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE IT WAS OBSERVED THAT SOME OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, INCLUDING RADIO AND TURN SIGNALS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. ELECTRICAL EVENTUALLY CAME BACK. THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES, GENERALLY AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RE-STARTING ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS CAME BACK ON. APPROXIMATELY 1-2 WEEKS AFTER THE INITIAL ELECTRICAL ISSUE THE FOLLOWING OCCURRED: WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES PER HOUR THE ENGINE SUDDENLY CUT OUT AFTER A "CLUNK" TYPE OF SOUND. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART, THE VEHICLE DID START AGAIN AND DROVE NORMALLY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE CODE P0688 ASD WAS FOUND. THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ASD RELAY SWITCH. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT THIS RELAY SWITCH COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE DYING WHILE DRIVING AS WELL. RELAY WAS NOT REPLACED AS THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THE PART OF ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE ELECTRICAL CUT OUT OCCURRED AGAIN ON 6/21/2013 BUT CLEARED UP IMMEDIATELY UPON A VEHICLE RESTART. ON 6/23/2013 WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE ENGINE CUT OUT AGAIN. THE ELECTRICAL WAS ALSO OUT, LEAVING ME WITH A DEAD VEHICLE AND NO ELECTRONICS TO SIGNAL. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. I BELIEVE THAT POSSIBLY THE ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP WAS CUT OUT DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER, WHICH LEADS ME TO QUESTION WHETHER THERE IS A LARGER, UNREPORTED ISSUE WITH THIS PART. IF THERE IS NOT A DEMAND FOR IT, WHY IS IT ON BACK ORDER, AND IF THERE IS A DEMAND, PERHAPS THERE IS AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT CHRYSLER/JEEP IS NOT REPORTING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP IN DAVIS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH WAS THEN REPLACED AT THE COST OF $2842.75. SHE RETRIEVED CAR TWO DAYS LATER AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE BACK HOME (DISTANCE IS @ 178 MI ONE WAY). CAR REPEATED SUDDEN DECELERATION UPON ENTERING THE FWY AND GETTING UP TO SPEED. CONTINUED HOME DUE TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS TO KEEP. KEPT CRUISE CONTROL OFF BUT CALLED DEALERSHIP TO REPORT THAT REPLACING THE TRANSFER CASE DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I PULLED CODES UPON HER ARRIVING HOME AND FOUND ONLY CODE 0430 (CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD [BANK 2] INDICATING THE CONVERTER NOT WORKING TO SPECS. TODAY SHE WAS RETURNING TO DAVIS TO VISIT WITH GRANDCHILDREN AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME SITUATION. AT 70 MPH CAR SUDDENLY DECELERATED RAPIDLY (AS IF BRAKES WERE APPLIED FORCEFULLY) AND CAUSED HER TO ABRUPTLY MOVE INTO THE LANE TO HER LEFT. SHE REGAINED CONTROL AND CONTINUED ON AT 50 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED HER NO MECHANICS WOULD BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MONDAY BUT AS SHE HAS A FLIGHT OUT OF LAX TO CATCH EARLY MONDAY A.M. SHE DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON TO L.A. WITHOUT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND PROCEEDING AT SLOWER SPEED. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED ON 4/15/2013 AT DEALERSHIPS RECOMMENDATION DUE TO A LEAK AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED IN ADDITION TO HAVING NEW VALVE COVER AND GASKET PUT ON. SPARK PLUGS REPLACED, THROTTLE BODY AND COMBUSTION CHAMBERS CLEANED AND PCV VALVE REPLACED. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A REPEATED PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

JEEP STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS GOING 65 MPH ON I-71 AND IT STALLED DEAD IN THE ROADWAY. I HAD TO PULL OVER AFTER AVOIDING OTHER VEHICLES AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. WHEN IT STALLED, IT GAVE NO WARNING, SIMPLY DIED ON THE FREEWAY AND I WAS LEFT WITH NO BRAKES, NO STEERING AND LIMITED DRIVABLITY. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND GOT A PERSON BY THE NAME OF [XXX] AS MY CASE MANAGER. SHE WAS THE MOST CLUELESS AND INCOMPETENT PERSON I HAVE EVER SPOKEN WITH. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT STALLED AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY A FEW DAYS LATER, SAME THING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. CHRYSLER SUPPORT IS A JOKE...THIS ISSUE IS STILL GOING ON. THE JEEP HAS THE 5.7L HEMI V8, AND STALLS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, OR EVEN BY DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. I HAVE HAD STALLING ISSUES NOW FOR ABOUT FOUR MONTHS. MOST OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT, BUT IT HAS STALLED DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH DOWN A STREET AS WELL. THE ENGINE SIMPLY CUTS OUT. RADIO AND ALL OTHER ELECTRONICS SEEM TO WORK, BUT THE ENGINE CUTS OUT AND HAS TO BE RESTARTED. *TR
CAR STALLS INTERMITTENTLY AT 60-70MPH. LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ALONG WITH CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE RE-STARTS UP IMMEDIATELY AFTER TURNING "OFF" AND TURNING BACK ON IN PARK POSITION. THIS HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN 15 TIMES IN 6 MONTHS - WITH 3 NEAR CRASH INCIDENTS. DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO FAULT CODES INDICATING A 'MANUFACTURING DEFECT'. 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND 5.7 HEMI STALLED ON FREEWAY. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AS HEAVY TRAFFIC AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND I LOST ALL STEERING/BRAKES/ENGINE CONTROL. I ENDED UP HITTING A ROAD CONE (NO NOTABLE DAMAGE) AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE SOMEWHAT SMALL PULLOVER ZONE (WAS IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION). VEHICLE RESTARTED ONLY AFTER BEING PUT IN PARK AND REMOVING AND REINSERTING THE KEY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE ENGINE RPMS DECREASED ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT INQUIRED WITH THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING A PREVIOUS SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
