THE ISSUE WITH MY CAR WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS ITS SISTER PRODUCT, 2012-2013 JEEP WRANGLER, WHICH WAS RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM - REFERENCE THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NO. 13V234000. THE SAME DESIGN FLAW EXISTS IN THE 2012-2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES AND THESE MODELS ALSO NEED TO BE RECALLED. PROBLEM: THE POWER STEERING RETURN LINE CONTACTS AND WEARS A HOLE IN THE ALUMINUM TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINE. THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT OR OBVIOUS LOW FLUID LEVELS, SO AN OWNER MAY NOT HAVE ANY WAY TO KNOW WHEN IT HAPPENS. RISK: SUCH A CONDITION CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID WITHOUT THE OWNER'S KNOWLEDGE, WHICH MAY CAUSE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE AND LOSS OF FUNCTION. IN MY CASE, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR OBVIOUS LOW FLUID LEVELS. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT UNTIL A REGULARLY SCHEDULED CHECK UP. I AM UNSURE OF WHETHER THERE IS ANY UNDETECTED DAMAGE, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS ONLY MILES AWAY FROM BURNING MY TRANSMISSION OUT AND IT SHUTTING DOWN. THE REPAIR COST WAS $849.27 AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, IF IT HAD SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH I DO OFTEN AS A SINGLE MOM WITH TWO DAUGHTERS, THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE LOST FUNCTION WHILE DRIVING. WHY ISN'T THIS RECALLED ALREADY? IT'S NOT SAFE AND IT'S THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS IT'S SISTER PRODUCT THAT WAS ALREADY RECALLED!

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE BACK IN APRIL ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IN MY CAR NEEDING REPLACED, AS IT CAN POSSIBLY CAUSE A CRASH. SAFETY RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP RELAY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE HAD THE RECALL FOR 8 MONTHS .EVERY TIME I CALL THEY DON'T HAVE THE PART. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS A WARNING LITE APPEARING .THE FUEL RELAY HAS ALSO PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FRO SHUTTING OFF 2 DIFFERENT TIMES.. I KNOW THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD . I NEED THIS FIXED IMMEDIATLY

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM CITY (4395 ROUTE 130S, BURLINGTON, NJ 08016), BUT NO CODES COULD BE GENERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND POWER CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

3/28/2015 (20,924 MILES): THIS IS THE SECOND TIME MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS STALLED WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE AFTER STARTING. I STARTED THE JEEP AND PUT IT IN REVERSE AND I BEGAN TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND IT STALLED. HOWEVER, WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DISPLAY SHOWED THAT THE JEEP WAS IN PARK, HOWEVER THE SHIFT LEVER WAS STILL IN REVERSE, AND THE RADIO WAS STILL ON LIKE THE CAR ELECTRONICS WERE ON. I MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER BACK INTO PARK. I PUSHED THE START/STOP BUTTON BUT I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE INSTRUMENTS OR RADIO TO SHUT OFF. I TRIED SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER IT JUST CLICKED ONCE AND THE STARTER DID NOT ENGAGE. WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, I PUT THE GEAR SHIFT IN REVERSE AND THEN BACK INTO PARK. I AGAIN TRIED TO PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON AND THIS TIME IT JUST KEPT CRANKING BUT FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL WHILE THE DASH DISPLAYED P AND I WAS IN A LEVEL PARKING LOT. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES THEY WERE HARD TO PRESS. I USED MY PHONE TO CALL MOSS BROS SERVICE AND THEY TRANSFERRED ME TO THE MOSS MOTORS RIVERSIDE, CA SERVICE CENTER. I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION BUT ALL SERVICE ADVISORS WERE BUSY. I WAITED ON THE LINE FOR OVER 11 MINUTES AND SOMEONE CAME BACK ON THE LINE AND TOLD ME THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME BACK. SEE CALL LOG FROM PHONE RECORDS BELOW. I EXPLAINED TO THE OPERATOR THAT IF I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF THAT THE BATTERY WOULD EVENTUALLY GO DEAD. AFTER WAITING ON HOLD ALL THIS TIME I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON ONE MORE TIME AND THIS TIME ALL CONTROLS SEEM TO SHUT OFF. SEAL FAILS PREMATURELY ON RACK AND PINION. IT LEAKS INTO BOOT SEALING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE END OF THE RACK AND THE INNER RODS, WHICH MASKS THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIPPING FLUID THE LEAK GOES UNNOTICED. I SEE THIS AS A SERIOUS ISSUE, AS MOST PEOPLE DO NOT EXPECT THE RACK & PINION TO FAIL AT SUCH AN EARLY INTERVAL THEY ARE PROBABLY NOT CHECKING FLUID LEVELS.. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE LACK OF STEERING AND RESULT IN MANY ACCIDENTS. JEEP IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM, MESSAGE BOARDS ON INTERNET ARE FULL OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ISSUE. CAR SLIGHTLY STALLED AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AT A STREET LIGHT. AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT JOLTED FORWARD AND THEN CONTINUED TO DRIVE AS NORMAL. NOW EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS STARTING THE CAR ON A REGULAR BASIS, SOMETIMES NEEDING 2 TO 3 ATTEMPTS TO PROPERLY START THE ENGINE. *TR
THE 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND STALLED THEN PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF STREET THEN RESTARTED ENGINE.TOOK TO DODGE DEALERSHIP -HAD MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE NO-TO LOW COMPRESSION ON LFT CYLINDER HEAD. IS THE FUEL TANK ON THIS VEHICLE DEFECTIVE WILL IT LEAK AND EXPLODE/CATCH FIRE IF REAR ENDED? THIS VEHICLE WAS OWNED BY DEALERSHIP WITH OPEN/ACTIVE RECALL SAFETY DEFECTS. SHOULD I BE CONCERNED WITH DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP DID NOT DISCLOSE THIS WHEN THEY SOLD THE VEHICLE. HOW IS THIS LEGAL AND ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE. I DON'T WANT TO PUT MY FAMILY IN IT. MAYBE THE DEALERSHIP OWNER WILL PUT HIS FAMILY IN IT SINCE HE'S SELLING DEFECTIVE CARS. I JUST GET ANOTHER SAFETY RECALL NOTICE. THIS VEHICLE IS AN ACCIDENT/FATALITY WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE MANUFACTURER/DEALERSHIP SHOULD REFUND THE PURCHASE PRICE OR BE CRIMINALLY CHARGED. AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY TODAY MY BRAKES FAILED, AND WHEN I SAY FAILED I MEAN I HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW FRIGHTENING THIS WAS. I MANAGED TO STOP THE CAR BY SHIFTING IT BACK INTO PARK. I WAS ABLE TO DO THIS BECAUSE I WAS NOT GOING VERY FAST. SINCE 2/12 (TIME OF PURCHASE) UNTIL 8/14 I HAVE RECEIVED 3 RECALLS (CYLINDER MISFIRE, BRAKE BOOSTER AND SUN VISOR WIRING) ON THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE! I RECEIVED THE BRAKE BOOSTER RECALL IN THE SUMMER OF 2014. IT TOOK A FEW MONTHS TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT FIXED BECAUSE OF LACK OF PARTS IN STOCK. I FINALLY GOT AN APPOINTMENT ON 10/8/14 AT KELLY JEEP, LYNNFIELD, MA (PLACE OF PURCHASE) TO HAVE BOTH THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE SUN VISOR WIRING REPAIRED. THE CYLINDER MISFIRE WAS REPAIRED BEFORE THIS TIME AND BEFORE I ACTUALLY RECEIVED THE RECALL BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WITH THE ENGINE. MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING. SINCE MAR 7TH THERE HAVE BEEN 3 INCIDENTS IN WHICH PRESSING THE START BUTTON CAUSED THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER BUT NOT START. ALL 3 INCIDENTS WERE SITUATIONS IN WHICH I WAS TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF PREVIOUSLY TURNING THE CAR OFF. 2 OF THE 3 INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF TURNING THE CAR OFF. FOR EXAMPLE, I FORGOT TO BRING AN ITEM WITH ME FROM MY HOUSE, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WENT IN THE HOUSE TO RETRIEVE THE FORGOTTEN ITEM. THEN, WHEN TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NO IGNITION FROM THE CYLINDERS. SUBSEQUENT REPEATED EFFORTS TO START THE CAR WERE FUTILE, BUT IF I WAITED 30 MINUTES OR MORE THE CAR WOULD START UP. THIS PROBLEM CREATES DIFFICULTY FOR ANYONE DOING A SHORT ERRAND SUCH AS BUYING SOMETHING FROM A CONVENIENCE STORE OR DROPPING THE KIDS OFF FOR SCHOOL. WHILE DRIVING, MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE SMOKE. SOON AFTER, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLINER, NEAR THE VISOR WENT INTO FLAMES. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY GRAND CHEROKEE FOR 1.5 YRS AND HAVE HAD AN INTERMITTENT START ISSUE SINCE I GOT IT. IT STARTED OUT ONCE OR TWICE EVERY COUPLE MONTHS. IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS IT WILL NOT START FOR ME MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. THIS IS A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM AND I HAD IT AT A DEALER FOR 2 DAYS AND THEY CAN'T GET IT TO DUPLICATE. THE ALTERNATOR RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND THEY ALSO ADDED THE EXTERNAL FUEL PUMP RELAY OUTSIDE OF THE TIPM. THEY FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY SORT OF PROBLEM BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAS NO CODES WHEN THEY RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT. SINCE THEY HAVE ADDED THIS EXTERNAL FUEL PUMP RELAY (WHICH I SEE IS GOING TO BE IN A RECALL) THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER I MADE MY FIRST STOP AND SHUT TE VEHICLE OFF. THIS HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER I LEFT THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAS PROVIDED ME WITH NO RESOLUTION AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER UNTIL THEY GET THEIR CODES IN THE DIAGNOSTICS. MY VEHICLE IS AN EARLY MODEL 2012 AND THE DEALER EVEN LOOKED AT MY TIPM AND COMPARED TO A 2011 TIPM, IT WAS THE SAME TIPM IN MY VEHICLE COMPARED TO THE 2011 MODEL. CAR OCCASIONALLY DOES NOT START WHEN THE PUSH BUTTON START IS USED. OTHER TIMES THE CAR GOES INTO A LONG CRANK.
