TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON, THE RADIO AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT BLANK WITHOUT WARNING. THE AUTO PARK DISENGAGED AND THE LOW VOLTAGE BATTERY WARNING MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE SAFE MODE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EARNHARDT CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1521 E DRIVERS WAY, GILBERT, AZ 85297: (480) 926-4000) WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT A FLASH UPGRADE WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROADWAY BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY TERMINAL WAS DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED BEFORE THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO EXCEED 30 MPH WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO GARDEN CITY JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM 283 N FRANKLIN ST, HEMPSTEAD, NY 11550 (516) 336-4712, DUE TO THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKES ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY WITH THE VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO BE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a ticking noise coming from the engine compartment, started well before this failure. Recently while driving the engine started to sputter and the vehicle would not accelerate above 25 MPH with a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic indicated that the engine needed to be disassembled to further diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 70,000.
FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES (FCA) ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE RAM 1500 ECODIESEL, MODEL YEAR 2014-2019, FOR POTENTIAL FIRES. THEIR RECALL STATES THAT THE EMISSIONS GAS RE-CIRCULATION (EGR) COOLER CAN DEVELOP CRACKS AND THERE IS RISK OF AN ENGINE FIRE AND POTENTIAL FOR INJURY RESULTING. FCA GOES ON TO STATE THAT INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THIS PARTICULAR ENGINEERING OR MANUFACTURING FAULT. MY VEHICLE, THE 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE, WAS PURCHASED WITH THE OPTIONAL 3.0L V6 TURBODIESEL ENGINE, THE "ECODIESEL." THIS IS THE IDENTICAL ENGINE TO THE RAM AND POSSESS THE SAME EGR AND EGR COOLER, AS WELL AS THE SAME INTAKE MANIFOLD, WHICH IS WHERE THE FIRES HAVE SEEMINGLY OCCURRED. THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, MODEL YEARS 2014-2016, THAT UTILIZE THE OPTIONAL ECODIESEL ENGINE WERE NOT NAMED IN THE SAME RECALL, NOR IN ANY SUBSEQUENT RECALLS FROM FCA, AND THE RISK OF FIRE SHOULD BE IDENTICAL BETWEEN THE TWO VEHICLES. I AM ONLY ASSUMING THAT THE REASON THE GRAND CHEROKEE WAS EXCLUDED, WAS BECAUSE IT WAS SOLD FAR LESS FREQUENTLY WITH THE ECODIESEL ENGINE OPTION. IF THE RAM 1500 WAS RECALLED FOR A FIRE AND INJURY RISK, THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT'S POWERED BY THE SAME ENGINE (AND THE SAME FIRE RISK) SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED UNDER THE SAME RECALL. IT'S CONCERNING THAT A MANUFACTURER ADMITS SIGNIFICANT HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS DUE TO A PARTICULAR ENGINE, BUT ONLY INCLUDES ONE MODEL THAT UTILIZES THIS ENGINE. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL, BUT I BELIEVE THAT BOTH VEHICLE MODELS SHOULD BE INCLUDED UNDER THIS RECALL, SINCE IT RELATES TO THE ENGINE, NOT THE SPECIFIC VEHICLE UTILIZING IT.
ACTIVE HEADREST ON DRIVE SIDE SEAT HAS DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN THE SEAT WHEN THE HEADREST DEPLOYED. WHEN GOING TO RESET IT, PLASTIC TABS RESTRAINING IT SNAPPED AND HEADREST IS UNABLE TO BE RESET.
MY 2014 ECO-DIESEL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD AN EMISSIONS RECALL, I AM THE 2ND OWNER. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL WHEN MY CAR WOULDN'T RUN AT NORMAL SPEED, OFTEN I HAD TO DO THE REGENERATION FUEL CLEANING. I HAD OFTEN NOTICE DIESEL FUMES IN THE CAB. I HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE AT GRESHAM JEEP. SOON AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. OCT 16 LITHIA JEEP OF PORTLAND WORKED ON MY JEEP. I HAD BEEN FEELING ILL FOR A WHILE, BURNING EYES, EXHAUSTED & SICK. OCT 28 I BECAME VERY ILL WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO LITHIA MOTORS AND ENDED UP IN THE E.R. WITH CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. ITS BEEN DIFFICULT GETTING LITHIA JEEP TO FIX MY VEHICLE. IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL OR IS ANOTHER ISSUE I WANT THIS REPORTED. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DISENGAGE WHEN DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS CAUSING SEVER DECELERATION ALMOST KILLED ME IN TRAFFIC. THE SUSPENSIONS FRONT AND REAR ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. SUSPENSIONS MAKES LOUD SCREECHING NOISES. REAR SUSPENSION IS ALMOST NON EXISTENT. REAR SUSPENSION BOUNCES SIDEWAYS OR ROLLS MORE SIDEWAYS WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS ON HIGHWAY. STEERING IS LOOSE. AND ELECTRION CONTROL ISSUES AS WELL
AFTER DRIVING OVER A CURB IN A BUSY RETAIL STORE PARKING LOT, MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WENT INTO FULL ACCELERATION. I COULD NOT SLOW IT DOWN WITH BRAKING, AS THE BRAKE WAS TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE, ALTHOUGH I HAD FULL PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL. I CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH SEVERED MY LOWER CONTROL ARM, THE WHEEL SWUNG OUT AND WAS CUT INTO TWO PIECES, AND THE AXLE CAME OUT.AS A RESULT. I HAD REACHED SPEED EXCEEDING 40 MPH IN A SECOND OR TWO. IT WAS THE MOST TRAUMATIC EVENT I HAVE EVER BEEN IN. I HAVE RESEARCHED DOZENS OF ACCOUNTS OF THIS EXACT VEHICLE EXPERIENCING "SUA" OR SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHERE IT COULD NOT BE SLOWED AND WENT INTO UNCONTROLLED SPEEDS LEADING TO CRASHES. THE DRIVERS SIDE ACTIVE RESTRAINT HEAT REST SUDDENLY DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER THIS HAPPENED I WAS TRYING TO LOOK AND SEE WHY THIS HAPPENED AND NOTICED THE LOCKING MECHANISM BROKE. I THINK THE SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM, THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS.
Fuel line issues, repaired then catalytic converter not working. Somewhere leaking oil. I have read this model is known for emissions, fuel line, catalytic converter issues
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS IMMEDIATELY ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING. WHILE AT A FUEL STATION AND ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO PRESS THE START BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD START. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, AND PCM APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS AGO. STEW HANSEN DODGE RAM CHRYSLER JEEP (LOCATED AT 12103 HICKMAN RD, URBANDALE, IA 50323, 515-331-2900) PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND SPEWED ALL COOLANT. SEVERAL DEALER VISITS, REPLACED EGR, MANIFOLD, CYLINDER HEADS, HOSES, THERMOSTAT ETC. ONE OCCASION FUEL WAS DRIPPING INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER REPAIR AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS SMOKING. ANOTHER OCCASION THE MANIFOLD WAS SMOKING. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ONE CATCHES FIRE. THESE ARE SUVS USED TO HAUL FAMILIES.
I LEFT MY PLACE OF WORK AND WHEN I WENT TO USE MY BRAKES THEY DIDN'T FULLY WORK. I BARELY GOT STOPPED IN TIME TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE SPUTTERED AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE DOWN. I GOT IT LOOKED AT AND THEY CHANGED THE BRAKE BOOSTER. ALL WAS WELL AFTER THAT. THE PICTURE ATTACHED IS WAS I BOUGHT TO FIX MY CAR.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH, MY PASSENGER SEAT HEADREST DEPLOYED. NO ONE WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR IMPACT AT THE TIME OF DEPLOYMENT. SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN DISCUSSED MANY TIMES ON THE JEEPCARES FORUM, YET NO VOLUNTARY RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BY CHRYSLER. I'M FILING THIS FORMAL COMPLAINT AND WILL BE CONTACTING CHRYSLER TO COVER REPLACEMENT COST.
DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD REST DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY IMPACT. I CAME TO MY CAR IN THE MORNING TO FIND THE HEAD REST HAD DEPLOYED OVER NIGHT IN MY GARAGE.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT ACTIVE HEAD REST DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THERE WAS NOT IMPACT OF ANY KIND. FORTUNATELY I WAY NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OR THE IMPACT OF THE DEPLOYMENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN NECK INJURY, OR THE SHOCK OF THE DEPLOYMENT COULD HAVE BEEN DISTRACTING ENOUGH TO RESULT IN AN UNSAFE MOVEMENT.
THE ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING. CODE READER SAID #6 CYLINDER. PLUG, COIL, AND INJECTOR DIDN'T FIX IT. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSES LEFT CYLINDER HEAD BAD. CYLINDER 6 LOSING 65% COMPRESSION. AT 75K MILES I WAS 2 WEEKS FROM OUT OF WARRANTY. DEALER SAID IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT THEY WAIT UNTIL THEY GO BAD TO CHANGE THEM. I EXPECT THIS COST CUSTOMERS A LOT OF MONEY FOR A BIG EXPENSIVE KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THEY WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR.
CAR WILL NOT START, TOLD ISSUE WITH INDEPENDENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE FAILURE. TOLD THERE ARE RECALLS BUT NOT ON MY VIN. READING ISSUE COULD ALSO CAUSE VEHICLE TO STALL IF ISSUE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. DID HAVE POWER TRAIN RECALL DONE AND WAS TOLD COULD BE RELATED.
I HAVE A ACC / FCW UNAVAILABLE MESSAGE THAT DEACTIVATES MY AUTO BREAKING SYSTEM TO PREVENT A COLLISION. THIS ERROR MESSAGE MAY RELATE TO THE ORC MODULE THAT MAY CONTROL OTHER SAFETY DEVICES IN THE VEHICLE SUCH AS THE AIR BAGS. THIS DEACTIVATION OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION CITY STREET AND ON THE HIGHWAY.

I GOT INSIDE MY JEEP WHICH WAS PARKED IN MT GARAGE, IN THE AFTERNOON TO GO TO WORK AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD RESTRAINT HAD DEPLOYED, I DO NOT KNOW WHY, WHEN I HAD CAME FROM WORK THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AND GOT OUT THE JEEP IT WAS FINE. I LOOKED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT DESCRIBED HOW TO RESET IT. THIS DID NOT WORK, I CALLED THE DEALER (DAYTON ANDREWS OF SAINT PETERSBURG, FL.) AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS A KNOW PROBLEM AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THEY WANT OVER $800 TO REPLACE IT,
WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROADWAY AND HIGHWAY MY VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY KICK ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL AND WILL KILL THE ENGINE WITH NO SUDDEN WARNING AND OR WARNING LIGHTS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE BATTERY WILL REMAIN ON BUT THE ENGINE IS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2015 MORE RECENTLY THIS ISSUE BEGAN IN 2019. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IT WILL ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER THE ENGINE BUT WILL NOT START, LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE THE THE ROADWAY. 50/50% CHANCE THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL TURN ON AND UNKNOWN ERROR. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE IS TO REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE AND LET IT SIT FOR 30 MINUTES RESETTING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THOUGH THIS IS A SHORT TERM FIX. I HAVE CONTACTED MULTIPLE JEEP DEALERS IN THE AREA AND EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO HAS ADVISED ME THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN LOOSING ALL POWER TO MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROADWAY AND HIGHWAY. I FEAR THAT THIS WILL CAUSE A GREATER PROBLEM TO MYSELF AND THE PUBLIC IF THE ISSUE IS NOT FIXED. I CAN SEE A CATASTROPHE IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A JEEP DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE ELECTRICS RECALL PROBLEM FIXED A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS ADVISED FROM JEEP UNKNOWN EXACT DATE. YESTERDAY OUT OF NOWHERE MY PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED, I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT I WAS JUST PARKED AND THE HEADREST JUST POPPED OUT OF PLACE. I CALL THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IS OVER $600 OF REPAIR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I SHOULD PAY THE REPAIR WHEN IT IS A VEHICLE MALFUNCTION.
SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH CAR IN PARK & FELT SOMETHING HIT THE BACK OF MY HEAD & HEARD A POP SOUND, MY HEAD JERKED FORWARD. I THEN LOOKED AT THE HEADREST & SAW THAT IT HAD COME APART
THE VEHICLE LOST PARTIAL POWER WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL CREATING AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THERE WERE NO SYMPTOMS OR OTHER INDICATORS PRIOR TO POWER LOSS. THE VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED, 5-YEARS OLD AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000 MILES. INITIAL DIAGNOSIS BY INDEPENDENT INDICATED THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER LOST COMPRESSION WHICH SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED ON A VEHICLE IN THIS GOOD OF CONDITION BUT WAS A PROBLEM COMMON IN JEEPS AND CHRYSLER IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO JEEP DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR.
DRIVER SEAT BELT WON'T RETRACT. UPPER SHOULDER HARNESS GUIDE HAS CRACKED AND IS PINCHING THE BELT KEEPING IT FROM RETRACTING. THIS IS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 54,000 MILES. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED AS A SAFETY. THERE IS NOT REPLACEMENT PART YOU HAVE REPLACE THE WHOLE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY AT A HUGE COST.
WHEN I ACCELERATE, THE CAR LURCHES. AS IT GOES FASTER, IT CATCHES. WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE IT DOES THE SAME THING.
AFTER THE MANDATORY EMISSIONS MODIFICATION THAT WAS REQUIRED ON THE ECODISEL 3.0 LITER DODGE AND JEEP VEHICLE, THERE HAS BEEN A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN VEHICLE PERFORMANCE. THE VEHICLE HAS LOST PERFORMANCE IN SHIFTING, ACCELERATION (RESPONSE), FUEL EFFICIENCY AND OVERALL POWER. THIS IS NOT ONLY PERFORMANCE RELATED, BUT ALSO A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY WHEN MAKING TURNS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BOLLES MOTORS 84 (WEST RD, ELLINGTON, CT 06029), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO CAPITOL CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1520 W MAIN ST, WILLIMANTIC, CT 06226) AND WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,422.
CAR SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS AFTER BEING SERVICE BY LOCAL SERVICE SHOP AND DEALERSHIP. IT LEFT ME STRANDED IN MIDDLE OF STREET.
HEADREST DETACHMENT TWICE. THE HEADREST ON THE PASSENGER SEAT DETACHED DURING PARKING, WHEN I WAS LIVING IN INDIANA IN 2017. I FIXED IT IN TWIN CITY DODGE CHRYSLER IN LAFAYETTE, IN (WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2014). NO COLLISION AT ALL AND THE HEADREST JUST DETACHED FOR NO REASON. THIS IS THE FIRST DETACHMENT. THE SECOND DETACHMENT IS ON MY DRIVER SIDE HEADREST. IT DETACHED DURING PARKING IN 2019 SEPTEMBER. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO CHAPMAN DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP IN SCOTTSDALE, AZ. THE STAFF THERE TOLD ME THE ISSUE WAS A DESIGNING PROBLEM OF GRAND CHEROKEE. THEY USED A PLASTIC PART IN HEADREST. IT IS WEAK AND CAN BREAK OFF ANYTIME. THEY SAID IF I FIX MY DRIVER SEAT HEADREST USING THE SAME PLASTICS, IT CAN STILL EASILY BREAK SIMPLY BECAUSE THE PLASTIC THING IS TOO FRAGILE. THE STAFF TOLD ME CHRYSLER MIGHT RECALL IT VERY SOON AND SO I KEEP WAITING. IT'S BEEN NOVEMBER 2020 AND STILL NO RECALL. I WANT CHRYSLER TO FIX THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY. I DO NOT WANT TO USE ANOTHER WEAK PLASTIC PART THAT CAN RANDOMLY DETACH ANYTIME. IF THE DETACHMENT OCCURS WHEN I AM DRIVING 70+ MPH, CERTAINLY IT WILL KILL ME AND SOMEONE ELSE. I AM SCARED OF THE PLASTIC PART AND SO I AM DRIVING WITHOUT IT BEING FIXED, WHICH IS REALLY CAUSING MY NECK PROBLEM BECAUSE IT PUSHES MY HEAD SEVERAL INCHES FORWARD DURING DRIVING. I REALLY WANT THE CHRYSLER TO RECALL IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, FOR THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF EVERY CUSTOMER.
ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT (IN FRONT HEADREST) HAS VERY WEAK PLASTIC PARTS THAT SPONTANEOUSLY BREAK AND CAUSE THIS SAFETY MECHANISM TO DEPLOY THE HEADREST. THIS HAS A VERY HIGH PROBABILITY OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT SHOULD THIS SPONTANEOUS DEPLOYMENT HAPPEN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THIS COULD OCCUR WITHOUT THE AUTOMOBILE BEING IN AN ACCIDENT. FIAT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE WEAKNESS OF THIS SAFETY MECHANISM EVEN THOUGH THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON OCCURRENCE.
I AM FILING A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEADREST. ON SATURDAY, 09/21/2019, MY DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE MY CAR WAS IN PARK. MY 17 YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE HEADREST HIT HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD, THROWING HIM FORWARD, ALMOST FACE PLANTING HIM INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE DID NOT DRIVE MY JEEP THE REST OF THE WEEKEND. I GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND I AM SHOCKED AT ALL OF THE ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS TYPE OF HEADREST AND YET, IT FAILS TO BE A RECALL. IF MY SON WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING, HE COULD HAVE WRECKED, POTENTIALLY KILLING HIMSELF, MY DAUGHTER AND ME. ALL OF THE PEOPLE POSTING THEIR COMPLAINTS ONLINE SAID JEEP IS NOT COVERING THIS ISSUE, AND CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM $600-$1025 FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS A FACT. I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME $1,017 TO FIX. THIS IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE WAY TO TREAT LOYAL JEEP CUSTOMERS. THIS IS THE SIXTH JEEP I HAVE OWNED. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE FCA AND FOLLOWED-UP WITH A PHONE CALL SEVERAL DAYS LATER. FORTUNATELY, THE FCA AGREED TO REPLACE BOTH OF MY HEADREST AT NO COST TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ORDERED THE PARTS AND I PLAN TO GET THE NEW ONES INSTALLED NEXT WEEK. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THE MANUFACTURERS OF THE HEADREST NEED TO MAKE THIS RIGHT. THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. I TRULY DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE.
THE HEADREST ON THE DRIVER SEAT DEPLOYED WHILE THE CAR WAS STOPPED IN PARK AND NOT IN AN ACCIDENT/COLLISION. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REST THE HEADREST IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE PLASTIC PART THAT KEEPS THE HEADREST FROM DEPLOYING WAS BROKEN.
THE CAR BURNS EXCESSIVE OIL, THE ONLY WARNING OF THIS IS THE CAR SHUTS OFF POWER REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED AND LOCATION (I COULD BE DRIVING 65 MPH AND IT JUST SHUTS OFF POWER TO THE ENGINE ) AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ANYONE BEHIND BE CAN CRASH INTO ME AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO. JEEP SAYS THE OIL BURNING IS NORMAL. (5 QUARTS IN 4000 MILES IS NOT NORMAL) NOT HAVING ANY WARNING NOTIFICATION OF THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

RED DASH WARNING THAT STATES "SERVICE SHIFTER" COMES ON AT RANDOM TIMES DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHILE MOVING SLOWLY IN THE DRIVEWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHILE BACKING AND MOVING FORWARD. NO RHYME OR REASON AS TO WHAT WILL TRIGGER THE WARNING. HAS BEEN OCCURING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW.
OIL WAS CONSTANTLY RUNNING LOW, AND ON 2 OCCASIONS WAS FOUND TO BE EMPTY, EVEN AFTER OIL CHANGES. NO SIGNS OF LEAKS OR OIL BURNING, SO I ASSUMED THE DEALERSHIP SCREWED UP. OVER THE SUMMER, THE CONDENSATION FROM THE A/C WAS LEAVING STAINS ON MY DRIVEWAY, BUT STILL NO SIGNS OF OIL. A GOOGLE SEARCH OF A/C CONDENSATION WATER STAINS FOR MY JEEP REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE OIL COOLER MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. SURE ENOUGH, AN INSPECTION REVEALED OIL SITTING AROUND THE OIL COOLER. I TOOK IT TO PELLEGRINO JEEP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE OIL COOLER HAD CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST ME A LITTLE OVER $1000! UNLESS JEEP REDESIGNED THIS PART, I WILL EVENTUALLY EXPERIENCE ANOTHER OUT OF WARRANTY FAILURE. WHEN JEEP WAS CONTACTED, THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ANY HELP SINCE MY VEHICLE HAD 73K MILES ON IT AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THERE REALLY IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE HOW MANY MILES WERE ON THE VEHICLE WHEN THE PART FAILED. ITS A KNOWN FACT THAT JEEP CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE PART FROM METAL TO PLASTIC. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR JEEPS ENGINEERING ERRORS. I'M FEARFUL THAT MY ENGINE MAY HAVE SUFFERED IRREPARABLE DAMAGE, CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE.
THE OIL FILTER HOUSING ON THIS CAR IS CRACKED, LEADING TO A OIL LEAK AND POOLING PROBLEM WHICH IS A SIGNIFICANT FIRE HAZARD ISSUE TO THE PASSENGERS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY CAUSING A POOL OF OIL TO COLLECT IN CAR AND DRIP ON FLOOR. AFTER FCA ISSUED RECALL AND REQUIRED UPDATE DONE, DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS EXIST. THE UPDATE IS REFERRED TO AS THE V08 AEM UPDATE. AFTER UPDATE DONE SUV BECAME DANGEROUSLY SLUGGISH. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, POWER IS DANGEROUSLY LOW. THIS PUTTING THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS IN DANGER WHEN EXPECTING SUV TO PERFORM AS PRE UPDATE. SUV ALSO BEGAN TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP, WHICH IF NOT PAYING ATTENTION COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT TO OCCUR. IN ADDITION SUV NOW SHIFTS VERY HARD, WHICH DOESN'T PURPOSE ANY SAFETY ISSUE, BUT DOES MAKE THE SUV UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE.
THE HEADREST "DEPLOYED" ON ME WHILE DRIVING, BOPPING ME IN THE HEAD. I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHAT TO GET THAT FIXED UNDER. THE VEHICLE WAS IN REGULAR LOW SPEED MOTION PULLING THROUGH A PARKING LOT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE HEADREST THAT CAUSED CLIPS TO BREAK AND THEREFORE HIT ME IN THE HEAD. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE A HUGE SAFETY RISK FOR THOSE WHO DON'T LEAN AS FAR AS I DO OR EVEN USE THE HEADREST. ALSO I WAS MOVING AT LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR, THIS COULD BE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IF SOMEONE WAS MOVING AT A MUCH FASTER VELOCITY. I ALSO DON'T KNOW HOW THIS DEVICE WORKS OR IF ITS LIKE AN AIRBAG, AM I AT RISK IF IT RE-DEPLOYS IN THE ACTUAL CASE OF AN ACCIDENT?

THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT HARM TO A PASSENGER'S HEAD/NECK HAD SOMEONE BEEN SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE DEPLOYMENT ITSELF WAS SO LOUD THAT IT SCARED AND DISTRACTED THE DRIVER AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.

DURING THE FAILURE THE 'MALFUNCTION INDICATOR' SENSOR LIGHT HAD DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND TO ALLOW THEM TO PERFORM A RECALL TO THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM PER THE NOTICE I RECEIVED. I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND DESPITE LEAVING PLENTY OF ROOM TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE TOOK A VERY LONG TIME TO MOVE OVER 15 MPH DESPITE PRESSING THE PEDAL HARDER. I ENDED UP IMPEDING TRAFFIC AS IT TOOK SO LONG TO GET MOVING. THIS SLOW RESPONSE CONTINUED FOR THE FIRST 15-20 MINUTES AND IMPROVED SOME, BUT NOT TO NORMAL OPERATION. IT WAS ALREADY LATE IN THE DAY, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD RETURN TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE NEXT MORNING, THE VEHICLE AGAIN HAS VERY LONG DELAYS FROM THE TIME YOU DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND THE TIME IT ACTUALLY MOVES. IT AGAIN IMPROVED ONCE IT WARMED UP, BUT STILL FEELS LIKE IT IS STARTING IN 2ND GEAR AND HAS AN UNACCEPTABLY LONG DELAY BEFORE IT MOVES FROM A STOP. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE NOW CANNOT MERGE INTO TRAFFIC WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. IN ADDITION, THE EXHAUST SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN REGENERATING THE DPF MULTIPLE TIMES AS YOU CAN SMELL THE ODOR AND FEEL THE HEAT IN THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT MAY BE OVERHEATING THE EXHAUST WHICH COULD POSE A FIRE RISK, AS WELL AS THE LACK OF PEDAL RESPONSE WHICH COULD CAUSE A COLLISION IF IT UNEXPECTEDLY LOSES POWER UPON PULLING ACROSS TRAFFIC. I HAVE A MESSAGE TO THE DEALER, BUT HAVE CHECKED THE RECALL RELATED FORUMS AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS UPDATE, AND THAT FCA HAS NO KNOWN FIX. THE RECALL LETTER STATED THAT THERE WOULD BE NO DRIVEABILITY IMPACT DUE TO THE AEM UPDATE AND NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON FUEL ECONOMY. THIS SUPPOSED EPA EMISSIONS RECALL HAS MADE MY VEHICLE UNSAFE AND INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF FUEL CONSUMED.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while she was stopped at a store parking lot, she heard a popping sound as the front passenger’s side headrest inadvertently deployed. The contact stated that she was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated. The contact re-inserted the headrest into the seat however, the headrest was not secured and would detach from the seat while driver over rough road surfaces. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
OUR DAUGHTER PURCHASED THIS 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND WITHIN 18HRS OF PURCHASE THE JEEP WOULDN'T START. THE JEEP DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE PUSH BUTTON START AND NO CODES APPEAR ONCE THE JEEP IS ABLE TO START. ON ONE OCCASION DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE DASH LIGHTS BLINK THEN TURN OFF AND BACK ON. IT HAS LEFT HER STRANDED ON AT LEAST 5 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHERE IT TOOK OVER 2HOURS BEFORE IT WOULD START. THE CAR BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED, KEY FOB BATTERY REPLACED, BODY CONTROL MODULE, AND THE DEALERSHIP IS STILL TRYING TO TRACK DOWN THE PROBLEM. IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR ALMOST A SOLID MONTH. SHE HAS ONLY DRIVEN IT THE EQUIVALENT OF 24HRS SINCE ALL THIS STARTED.
ON 9/6/19 WHILE TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED ON A FOUR LANE ROAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST "EXPLODED" PROPELLING THE FRONT HALF OF THE HEADREST VIOLENTLY FORWARD. THIS CAUSED A HARD HIT TO THE BACK OF MY HEAD THAT LEFT ME STUNNED. I WAS UNSURE OF WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND COULD SEE THAT IT HAD SPLIT FORCING THE FRONT HALF INTO MY HEAD. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED OR MERGING ONTO THE NEARBY INTERSTATE THAT WAS MY DESTINATION, THIS IMPACT LIKELY WOULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE HIT WAS SO FORCEFUL THAT I AM CONCERNED IT MAY HAVE DONE SOME DAMAGE TO MY NECK, SO I MAY HAVE TO SEEK MEDICAL CARE. ONCE I GOT HOME I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND MANY REPORTS AND LAWSUITS REGARDING THIS DEFECT IN THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT HEADREST ON CHRYSLER/ JEEP PRODUCTS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. SURELY THIS ISSUE MERITS A RECALL.
