TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V636000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) AND 15V461000 (EQUIPMENT); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE AND INDICATED THAT IT MAY TAKE LONGER THAN SIX WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
MY JEEP WAS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES SIMILAR TO THOSE MANY HAVE ALREADY COMPLAINED ABOUT. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WOULD SHUT OFF OR ILLUMINATE, ETC. THE ONE DAY IT JUST WOULD NOT START. WE GOT IT JUMPED AND TOOK IT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY AT THE APPROPRIATE VOLTAGE AND TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED IT AND ENDED UP FIXING THE ALTERNATOR UNDER AN OPEN RECALL. LESS THAN 1 WEEK LATER, THE JEEP WOULD NOT START AGAIN. AFTER GETTING ANOTHER JUMP START AND TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. AFTER MY INSISTENCE THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT AND SURE ENOUGH THAT NEXT DAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THEY THEN TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY OR THE ALTERNATOR BUT REPLACED THE BATTERY ANYWAY, CHARGED ME $212 AS I AM JUST OVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. 4 DAYS LATER, MY JEEP CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO JUMP START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD DIE WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TESTED IT FOR ME AND AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY TO THE CORRECT LEVEL. I THEN HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO DEALER. IT'S AT THE DEALER NOW. FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT, THEN THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AGAIN AND IT STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY ARE NOW LOOKING AT THE WIRING AND WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR IT AND THEY CLAIM IT ISN'T RELATED (ALTHOUGH THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THIS IS REALLY THE ISSUE). IT ALL SEEMS VERY RELATED TO ME. DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST, MY JEEP HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR 9 DAYS SO FAR WITH NO RESOLUTION.
THE PROBLEM(S) THAT I HAVE HAD OR CURRENTLY HAVE WITH MY VEHICLE ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. JULY 8, 2015: (MILEAGE 12,453) CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIGHTING UP AND THEN THE ENGINE DIED LATER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. FINALLY THE CAR STARTED UP HOWEVER THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT AND I DROVE IT HOME IN LOW GEAR. ON JULY 9, 2015, I TOOK THE CAR INTO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN CENTRALIA WASHINGTON (SEE SERVICE SLIP) AND IT WAS RETURNED TO ME ON JULY 13, 2015. 2. JULY 15, 2015: AGAIN, THE CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AND THE CAR WAS STUCK IN LOW GEAR. I TURNED THE CAR INTO TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT (SEE SERVICE SLIP) ON JULY 16, 2015. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON AUGUST 18, 2015. 3. AUGUST 24, 2015: AGAIN THE CAR DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AND THE CAR STUCK IN LOW GEAR AND THE MOTOR WAS SURGING. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON AUGUST 25, 2015. THE CAR WAS RETURNED ON AUGUST 28, 2015. 4. AUGUST 31, 2015: I DROVE TO SEATTLE AND AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SHIFTER LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND SPEEDOMETER NUMBERS WOULD GO FROM LARGE FONT TO SMALL FONT. WHEN DASH LIGHTS AND WARNING LIGHTS PLUS DIFFERENT CHARACTERS FLASHED THEN THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE. CURRENTLY, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO CAMPBELL CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 BECAUSE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY FAMILY. IM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR AND CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS MY FAMILIES. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR STALLED ON ME IT HAPPENED AT A STOP SIGN ON A TWO WAY HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE SURGING IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN WITH-OUT MY CAR OVER 43 PLUS DAYS AND HAVE BEEN GREATLY INCONVENIENCED.
I HAD THE KEYLESS BOB IN MY PURSE, WALKED UP TO THE CAR AND IT UNLOCKED. I OPENED THE REAR DOOR AND BUCKLED MY 3 YEAR OLD IN HER CARSEAT. I PLACED MY PURSE (WHICH CONTAINED THE FOB AND MY CELL PHONE) ON THE PASSENGER SEAT. I CLOSED THE REAR DOOR AND WENT AROUND TO THE DRIVERS SIDE AND ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. ALL THE DOORS WERE LOCKED. IT WAS 95 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND 110 DEGREES IN THE CAR. I HAD TO FIND A BYSTANDER TO CALL 911. IT TOOK EMERGENCY RESPONDERS OVER 20 MINUTES TO REMOVE HER FROM THE HOT CAR. MY CHILD ALMOST DIED BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY LOCKING SYSTEM. A KEY FOB SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO BE LOCKED INSIDE A VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RECREATE EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED, AND THE CAR WILL LOCK ITSELF SHUT WITH THE FOB INSIDE. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE FOUND TWO OTHER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES THAT WILL REACT THE SAME WAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V643000 (AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
ON 8/3/2015 A EMPLOYEE OF DISCOUNT TIRE OF LAKE WORTH,TX DROVE OUR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO INTO A CONCRETE POLE. THE EMPLOYEE STATED THAT HE THOUGHT HE WAS IN REVERSE, WHEN IN ACTUALITY THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. WHEN HE STEPPED ON THE GAS HE DROVE FORWARD INTO A CONCRETE POLE. HIS EXPLANATION AS TO WHY WAS DUE TO THE LAG (OR PING) BETWEEN REQUESTING A COMMAND AND SEEING THE LED SCREEN INDICATE THE SELECTION. MY WIFE AND I HAVE SEEN THIS FIRST HAND, IT IS VERY POSSIBLE TO OVERSHOOT THE INTENDED GEAR, AND TRY AND CORRECT BEFORE THE DISPLAY HAS ACCURATELY INDICATED THE ACTUAL GEAR. ADDITIONALLY THE INDICATION LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER ARE COVERED BY THE USER HAND WHEN OPERATING. THIS FORCES THE OPERATOR TO STARE AT THE INDICATORS IN THE GAUGE CLUSTER, WHICH AS STATED BEFORE HAVE A NOTICEABLE LAG BETWEEN INDICATIONS. IT IS THE SOFTWARE LAG, AND THE FACT THE SHIFTER ALWAYS SPRINGS BACK TO THE SAME POSITIONS THAT HAS CAUSE CONFUSION. FCA CLEARLY KNEW OF THE ISSUES AS THEY STOPPED PRODUCED THE PIVOTING SHIFTERS FROM 2014-2015. STARTING IN 2016 ALL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE MODELS HAVE A MECHANICAL SHIFTER THAT MOVED TO DIFFERENT DEDENTS FOR GEAR SELECTIONS. THE ENTIRE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A MECHANICAL MODEL SUCH AS THE ONES USED IN 2016 AND UP JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. UPON PARKING THE VEHICLE, IT ROLLED BACKWARDS AND THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE TO PREVENT A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
THE 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT, WAS SERVICED ON 7/30/15. I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND AN OIL CHANGE. THE NEXT DAY, I GOT ON THE FREEWAY AND PROCEEDED TO DO 65MPH WHEN THE FRONT END AND OR THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I AM GETTING THE TIRES BALANCED/SERVICED ON 8/19/15 TO SEE IF THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.
I HAD A ROLL AWAY INCIDENT BACK AROUND JULY 25TH 2015 AFTER PLACING MY TRUCK (2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED) IN PARK IN FRONT OF A GAS STATION LOCATED ON RT 23 SOUTH IN RIVERDALE NJ WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR. I HAD JUST BOUGHT GAS AND REALIZED I NEEDED TO GET SOMETHING INSIDE THEIR STORE SO AFTER THE PUMP FINISHED I PULLED UP IN FRONT OF CONV. STORE, PLACED IT IN PARK AND RAN IN FOR NOT EVEN A MINUTE, COME BACK OUT AND MY TRUCK HAD ROLLED AWAY INTO A ONE WAY EXIT SIGN. THERE IS A NICE DENT IN MY RIGHT FRONT BUMPER. . I JUST PASSED THIS GAS STATION OVER THE WEEKEND AND THE SIGN IS STILL IN THE SAME BENT POSITION SINCE MY TRUCK ROLLED INTO IT. I KNOW I PLACED MY TRUCK IN PARK AND LOCKED THE DOOR ON TOP OF THAT BECAUSE MY 8YEAR OLD WAS WITH ME AND I WAS ONLY GOING IN FOR A MINUTE. THANKFULLY A SIGN AND A ROCK (IT DIDN'T HIT THE ROCK) WERE THERE OTHERWISE THE TRUCK MOST DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE ROLLED OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY CAUSING DEATH OR INJURY TO MY DAUGHTER AND DEATH OR INJURY FOR WHOEVER HIT MY TRUCK. MY STOMACH WAS IN MY THROAT. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO KNEW ABOUT MY STORY SAW YOUR RECENT ARTICLE ABOUT THIS POTENTIALLY REALLY BAD PROBLEM AND SENT ME THE LINK. AFTER READING THIS I KNOW THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. PLEASE, I'M A CONCERNED DRIVER AND PARENT AND NOT FEELING GOOD ABOUT THIS TRUCK AFTER READING YOUR STORY AND EXPERIENCING THIS FIRST HAND. AGAIN MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THERE AND THANKFULLY SHE WAS OK. WHEN I REALIZED IT HAD ROLLED I RAN TO HER, OPENED THE DOOR AND SHE SAID DADDY THE TRUCK MOVED WITHOUT YOU IN IT. SO ANY HELP OR GUIDANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. MOVE SHIFTER TO PARK ONLY IT DOESN'T GO INTO PARK WHEN YOU THINK IT DID. IT'S A DANGEROUS SHIFTER. MY BROTHER HAS THE SAME ISSUE WITH HIS. YOU MUST KEEP YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND MAKE SURE IT IS IN THE DESIRED GEAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS IN PARK, WHEN IT WAS STILL IN GEAR. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED TO ROLL BACK ON ME. I QUICKLY JUMPED BACK INTO THE VEHICLE TO STOP IT WITHOUT ACCIDENT, THIS TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE PARKED, THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON ONE OTHER OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CPU ELECTRONIC SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
ON JULY 16, 2015, WITH ABOUT 5,000 MILES, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY DEALERSHIP. ON JULY 21, 2015, WE LEARNED THAT IT HAD LOST THE KEY AND DONE NOTHING TO REPAIR IT. ON JULY 22, 2015, IT WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP. ON JULY 23, 2015, WE WERE ADVISED THAT THE PROBLEMS WERE CAUSED BY A BAD BATTERY. ON JULY 25, 2015, WHEN WE WENT TO PICK IT UP, IT WOULD NOT START EVEN WITH A NEW BATTERY. ON JULY 27, 2015, WE WERE TOLD THAT ANOTHER NEW BATTERY HAD BEEN INSTALLED. ON JULY 28, 2015, WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE BUT ON AUGUST 14, 2015, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AGAIN FAILED AND IT WAS AGAIN TOWED TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP. ON AUGUST 17, 2015, WE WERE ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED BY REPLACING VARIOUS ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2015, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AGAIN FAILED CAUSING THE ABS AND AWD SYSTEMS TO RAPIDLY CYCLE ON AND OFF; THE TRANSMISSION TO RAPIDLY SHIFT THROUGH BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS; AND FOR THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD AND BACKWARD. A THIRD JEEP DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO SERVICE IT BECAUSE OF ITS HISTORY. ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2015, THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TOWED TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP. IT HAD ONLY 5757 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2015, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP THOUGHT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE WITH A CRASH SENSOR AND PROPOSED THAT THE SENSOR BE DISABLED. ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2015, AFTER WE OBJECTED TO DISABLING A SAFETY SENSOR, WE WERE TOLD THAT SENSORS HAD BEEN ORDERED FOR THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE AND SPEED CONTROLS, BUT AS OF TODAY, THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND IS UNCERTAIN WHETHER IT CAN REPAIR IT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT A DEALERSHIP 25 OUT OF THE PAST 72 DAYS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE; WILL NOT SAY THAT IT CAN BE REPAIRED; AND WILL NOT SAY THAT IT WILL BE SAFE TO OPERATE. JEEP REFUSES TO HELP. WE DON'T WANT TO DIE IN THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP US.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V509000 (VISIBILITY) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT TO THE LOWER GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED; HOWEVER, THAT FAILED TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TODAY AND MY TURNS SIGNALS GOT STUCK ON AGAIN! THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND THIS IS NOT THE FIRST COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED. I HAVE HAD MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUR TIMES FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD ALL FOUR TIMES THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TWO VIDEOS OF MY TURN SIGNALS GETTING STUCK ON AND MY DASH FLASHING AND READING THE INCORRECT SPEED BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONTINUES TO TELL ME THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE IT. WELL, TODAY THERE WAS ALMOST AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. MY TURN SIGNALS GOT STUCK ON AND ANOTHER CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND I ALMOST HIT THEM, THEY OBVIOUSLY THOUGHT I WAS TURNING, WHICH I WAS NOT BUT YET AGAIN MY TURN SIGNALS WERE STUCK ON. FCA IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES BUT THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION FOR ME. I FEEL COMPLETELY UNSAFE IN MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND IT IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.
THE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWS HOT AIR IN THE SUMMER AND COLD AIR IN THE WINTER. ALSO, THE POWER LOCKS DO NOT WORK AT TIMES ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR.
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED THE VEHICLE BRAKED ITSELF HARD EXTREMELY SLOWING THE CAR DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OR IN OTHER LANES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HAD A CAR BEEN FOLLOWING ME I WOULD MOST LIKELY BEEN REAR ENDED.TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND, AFTER CHECKING OUT THE VEHICLE, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THAT THE SOFTWARE WAS UP TO DATE, AND THAT THE ACC SYSTEM IS "WORKING AS DESIGNED." THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES OR WORSE.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE THROTTLE BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE AS IF THE CAR IS OUT OF GEAR. THIS IS WORSE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. THE CAR WILL SLOW DOWN QUITE A BIT BEFORE THE THROTTLE STARTS RESPONDING AGAIN. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE IT WAS INITIALLY REPORTED.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON 7/5/15 AND MY DASH STARTED FLASHING. IT WAS READING THE INCORRECT SPEED AND MILEAGE AND I COULD NOT GET IT TO STOP. I HAVE CONTACTED MY JEEP DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND FCA ABOUT THIS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SPEEDOMETER,ODOMETER AND THE DASH FLASHING SINCE AUGUST 2014 BUT EVERYTIME I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR SERVICE I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WELL THIS TIME I TOOK A VIDEO OF IT HAPPENING. MY SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ MY TRAVELING 30MPH THEN ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 20MPH AND THEN ALL THE WAY UP TO 40MPH ALL IN MY 22 SECOND VIDEO! I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I WAS REALLY GOING AND THE FLASHING IS VERY DISSTRACTING TO TRY AND DRIVE AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD. I HAVE TOLD FCA FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW THAT I DO NOT FEEL MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS SAFE AND I CONTINUE TO HAVE MORE AND MORE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH IT EVEN AFTER THE RECALLS WERE COMPLETED AND I HAVE YET TO HEAR ANYTHING FROM THEM. I CALLED AND COMPLAINED SO MUCH TO THEM THAT THEY ASKED ME TO STOP CALLING.
DURING A DRIVE UP A MOUNTAIN GRADE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND TOWING A RECREATIONAL BOAT ON 7-4-15, OUR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH THE 3.0L ECODIESEL ENGINE OVERHEATED (I.E. COOLANT) AND THE OIL TEMPERATURE REACH OVER 300 DEGREES. THESE CONDITIONS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO A VERY SLOW DRIVING CONDITION (I.E. 5MPH) ON A TWO (2) LANE HIGHWAY CAUSING A TRAFFIC JAM BEHIND US AND A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE TURNOUT LANES WERE INFREQUENT. WHEN OPENING THE HOOD, IT APPEARED THAT THE COOLANT HAD SPRAYED OUT OF THE RESERVOIR THROUGH THE CAP AND ONTO THE ENGINE. WE ATTEMPTED TO COOL THE ENGINE DOWN OVER A TWO (2) HOUR PERIOD AND ADDED OVER 1.5 GALLONS OF A WATER/COOLANT MIXTURE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STILL OVERHEATED AND HAD THE ENGINE OIL REACH OVER 300 DEGREES UNTIL WE COULD PARK IT FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS. THE VEHICLE IS RATED TO TOW 7200LBS. WITH THE FACTORY INSTALLED TOWING PACKAGE HOWEVER, JEEP CURIOUSLY DID NOT INSTALL A TOWING FEATURE ON THE MODEL TO HELP WITH SHIFTING, ETC. THE BOAT AND TRAILER WEIGHS LESS THAN 3450LBS. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND I AM AFRAID THAT THE ISSUE HAS DAMAGED THE ENGINE. THE JEEP/CHRYSLER ASSISTANCE LINE WOULD ONLY TOW THE VEHICLE BUT NOT OUR BOAT AND WAS NO HELP TO US SO WE WERE LEFT ON OUR OWN DURING OUR 4TH OF JULY VACATION. JEEP NEEDS TO PROVIDE A TOWING FEATURE, INSTALL A HEAVY DUTY ADDITIONAL OIL COOLER AND ADDITIONAL ENGINE COOLING PROVISIONS FOR THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES WITH THE 3.0L ECODIESEL AND FACTORY TOWING PACKAGE FROM A SAFETY AND EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY/LONGEVITY PERSPECTIVE. ON TWO OCCASIONS WITHIN SEVEN DAYS, MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ECODIESEL (33,626 MILES CURRENTLY) STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY ONCE AT 45 MPH AND THEN AT 60 MPH. BOTH TIMES IT RESTARTED AFTER APPROX. 10-15 MINUTES. BOTH TIMES I TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT IN AFTER THE RESTART AND THE SECOND TIME I HAD IT TOWED AFTER A HARROWING TIME PULLING OVER AND ALMOST BEING HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. I WAS VERY SHAKEN AND THE STATE TROOPER TOLD ME TO TOW IT FOR MY OWN SAFETY. THE CAR WHEN IT STALLED DID SO WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. AFTER THE CAR RESTARTED IT HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. BOTH DEALERS TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE ANY ISSUES AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TOLD THEM NOTHING AND I SHOULD PICK UP MY CAR. I PICKED IT UP THE FIRST TIME THINKING IT WAS A ONE OFF BUT THIS SECOND TIME IT HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER FOR ALMOST A MONTH AND I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER. I AM AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY AND MY PASSENGERS SAFETY. THE DEALER REFUSES TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE FURTHER AND CHRYSLER HAS DONE NOTHING OTHER THAN PASSING ON THE SAME MESSAGE FROM THE DEALER TO PICK UP MY CAR. THE DEALER ACTUALLY SAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT BACK! MY CHRYSLER CASE MANAGER OFFERED ME THREE FREE OIL CHANGES FOR MY INCONVENIENCE ! I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL AND OPEN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR EARLIER MODELS RELATED TO DEFECTIVE TIPIN. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WITH NO CARS IN MY VISIBLE SIGHT AND THE SIGNAL ALARMED AND THEN THE CAR BRAKED ON IT'S OWN. THIS AGAIN HAPPENED YESTERDAY 6/29/15 WHILE I WAS TURNING LEFT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WITH A GREEN ARROW AND THE VEHICLE BRAKED WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING. A CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO HIT THEIR BRAKES AND SWERVE TO AVOID REAR ENDING ME. EACH TIME I BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TELL ME THAT THEY CAN'T FIX A PROBLEM THAT THEY CAN'T REPLICATE.

AS SHE SLOWED AND PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE JEEP SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD, JUMPING THE CURB, CROSSING A SIDEWALK, GOING THROUGH A SMALL GRASS MEDIAN, AND INTO A DIFFERENT AREA OF THE PARKING LOT. THE POLICE REPORT, OKLAHOMA CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT, CASE NUMBER 15-REDACTED, ACCURATELY RECORDS THE SURGE. THE OFFICERS CONCLUSION WAS DRIVER ERROR. A TEEN DRIVER PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF MY WIFE AND SHE HIT HER GOING AROUND 20-25 MPH. THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE JEEP NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED TO THE TUNE OF ALMOST $6,000.00. HOWEVER, THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. MY WIFE DID GO TO THE HOSPITAL COMPLAINING OF LOWER BACK PAIN AND A FEW DAYS LATER HAD A SORE NECK AS WELL. I REALIZE IT WAS A HIGH SPEED IMPACT, BUT THE WITH THAT MUCH DAMAGE IT SEEMS LIKE THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE WENT OFF.
DRIVER PROCEEDED FROM A FROM A 4-WAY STOP TO THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH. SHORTLY AFTER GETTING UP TO SPEED, THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED WITH SEVERAL WARNING INDICATORS (SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, SERVICE AIRBAG SYSTEM, LOW OIL PRESSURE, LOW VOLTAGE) AND LOST ALL ENGINE POWER. VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP IN A NEARBY PARKING LOT. DRIVER WAS ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT UNSUCCESSFUL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING SERVICE.

CAR HAS AUTOMATIC BRAKE WARNING WHICH APPLIES THE BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY. ON AT LEAST 4 OCCASIONS THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THERE WAS NO OTHER CARS IN SIGHT. NOT ONLY WERE THERE NO CARS IN SIGHT WHILE DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY THE BRAKES WOULD COME ON. I TO,D THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE.
AFTER BACKING THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE I WAS GOING TO GET OUT TO GO BACK INTO THE HOUSE.. I PUT THE CAR (I THOUGHT) IN PARK, MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. I STARTED TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THE CAR SLIGHTLY STARTED FORWARD I REALIZED THE CAR WASN'T IN PARK BUT DRIVE AND WHEN I WENT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES FURTHER TO CHANGE GEARS AND STOP THE FORWARD MOTION THE CAR SUDDENLY REVVED THE ENGINE, SQUEALED ITS TIRES WHILE PEALING OUT AND ACCELERATING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BACK INTO THE GARAGE SMASHING INTO A BRICK WALL AND MY DINING ROOM. THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR IS OVER $15,000 AND DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE IS APPROX. $9000. I KNOW MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE!` MY FACE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL CUTTING MY LIP. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I HAVE TWO YEARS LEFT ON THE LEASE AND I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT. IN ALL OF MY YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT AND I HAVE ALWAYS PARKED IN A GARAGE WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE DRIVEN EVERYTHING FROM YUKONS TO NAVIGATORS AND NEVER HAVE I HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS. I SEE FROM ALL THE POSTS THAT I AM NOT ALONE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED.
