I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON W. MAPLE RD IN TROY, MI IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON ON FEBRUARY 18, 2015. THERE WAS MINIMAL TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD AND NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME IN MY LANE OR THE LANE NEXT TO ME. SUDDENLY, MY DASH LIT UP TO BRAKE AND THE CAR STARTED BRAKING ON IT'S OWN. IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY THAT I WASN'T EVEN SURE WHAT IT WAS. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD. AGAIN THE SYSTEM APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE WARNING WORD BRAKE FLASHED ON MY DASHBOARD WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING NEAR ME. IT HAPPENED QUICKLY AND THEN THE CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL WITHOUT ME DOING OR CHANGING ANYTHING IN THE CAR. I BROUGHT IT TO THE SUBURBAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALERSHIP IN TROY AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE. NO CODES WERE ACTIVATED IN THE COMPUTER AND THERE WERE NO SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT IT SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.. . I TOOK THE CAR HOME AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN TO ME FIVE DAYS LATER DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME SPEED. THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR LONGER, DROVE IT 119 MILES, USED THE MILLER TOOL KIT TO ALIGN THE CAMERA AND STILL FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE FRONT SENSOR AND BUBBLE ALIGNED. THE ONLY THING THAT THE DEALERSHIP FOUND WAS THAT ON ONE OF THE TEST DRIVES THEY COULDN'T GET THE ACC SYSTEM TO WORK AT ALL AND STILL NO REPORTS SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER. THE NEXT TEST DRIVE ALL SYSTEMS WERE WORKING, AGAIN NO REPORT ON THE COMPUTER OF THE CHANGE. THE DEALERSHIP STILL COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY THOUGHT THAT THEY FIXED IT.. IN MAY, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS MERGING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY TRAVELING AT 63MPH. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN IT WAS RETURNED TO ME WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE PROBLEM. . .UPDATED 07/21/15 *BF
I WAS DRIVING AND STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN AND WHEN I ACCELERATED AFTER MAKING THE STOP AND TOOK A LEFT TURN ON G STREET LOCATED ON KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE MY CAR ACCELERATED AND I LOST CONTROL AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED AND MY CAR PROCEEDED TO HIT A PARKED VEHICLE AND STILL THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE CAR AND THE ONLY REASON THE CAR STOPPED WAS BECAUSE I HIT SOME REINFORCED STEEL CABLES HOLDING SOMETHING UP. FOUR OTHER VEHICLES WERE DAMAGES AS A RESULT OF MY BRAKES FAILING. *TR

THE ESC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND I TRIED THE FIX, TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES (IT HAD WORKED WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON BEFORE) BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. *TR

2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CAME WITH OEM GOODYEAR FORTERA HL 265/50R20 TIRES. THE TIRES HAD ONLY 15K MILES AND WERE INADEQUATE DURING EVEN SMALL AMOUNTS OF RAIN OR SNOW. THE CAR WAS CONSTANTLY LOSING GRIP ON THE ROAD EVENTUALLY LEADING TO ME CRASHING INTO A POLE GOING 20 MPH CAUSING $17K IN DAMAGE. *TR

I PURCHASED A NEW 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SRT LAST YEAR AND HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES, THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM. I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT TURN LANE OF A TWO LANE LEFT TURN STOPLIGHT. STOPLIGHT TURNS GREEN FOR LEFT TURN LANES TO PROCEED TO HIGHWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, AS I AM TURNING LEFT MY CAR AUTOMATICALLY SLAMS INTO A FULL BRAKE AND STOPS IN MIDDLE OF TURN LANE. THE CAR WAS OUT OF MY CONTROL AS THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS FULLY PRESSED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE BRAKE. MY VEHICLE DOES HAVE THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE SYSTEM, WHICH WAS ACTIVATED THIS DAY. THE CAR BEHIND ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES SINCE MY VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING A LEFT TURN. WE DID NOT GET REAR ENDED THANKFULLY. THERE WAS A CAR TO THE RIGHT OF MY VEHICLE ALSO MAKING A LEFT TURN, AT NO POINT DID THIS VEHICLE COME NEAR MY VEHICLE NOR CROSSED LANES. MY VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP FOR NO REASON AND WHEN I WENT TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT CONTINUED TO STAY IN A FULL BRAKE, IT TOOK ABOUT A MINUTE TO GET MY VEHICLE TO START ACCELERATING AGAIN. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I TURNED OFF THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE SYSTEM. TO BE DRIVING A VEHICLE AND THEN OUT OF NOWHERE THE CAR TAKES CONTROL OF ITSELF IS VERY SCARY AND NOT SAFE.
DEALER HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. IT HAS BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS SINCE RECEIVING A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE (P67 / NHTSA 14V-643). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED WRIST, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AT 70 MPH, THE BRAKES ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN ORDER TO OVERRIDE THE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,200.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED OVER TWENTY TIMES WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE CONTACT REACHED OUT TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT IN A PARKING GARAGE BUT WAS FAVORING THE RIGHT SIDE. I BACKED UP APPROX. 6-8 FEET TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR OUT. AS SOON AS I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, IT LURCHED FORWARD AT FULL THROTTLE, WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. I COULDN'T STOP IT. THE CAR ACCELERATED RAPIDLY AND SHOT FORWARD, OVER THE PARKING BARRIER AND RAMMED INTO THE CEMENT SUPPORT STRUCTURE OF THE DECK. THE IMPACT WAS JARRING AND THE CAR JERKED BACK UPON HITTING THE STRUCTURE. ALTHOUGH THE DISTANCE WAS ONLY ABOUT 6-8 FEET, THE IMPACT DID $3,300 DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ACCIDENT SITE AND THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR. THE PHOTOS SHOW THAT MY FRONT TIRES LAID DOWN SKID MARKS ON THE PAVEMENT AND UP AND OVER THE PARKING BARRIER AS I WAS TRYING TO STOP IT. A CLEAR INDICATION I WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE FORCE OF THE CAR PULLING AHEAD AGAINST THE BRAKES WAS VERY STRONG AND WAS ONLY STOPPED ONCE I SLAMMED IN THE PARKING GARAGE WALL. AFTER CONTACTING JEEP, I WAS REFERRED TO THE SPECIAL INVESTIGATION UNIT.I MET WITH A SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR AND HE EVALUATED MY VEHICLE AND SENT THE FINDINGS TO JEEP FOR FURTHER EVALUATION. THE INVESTIGATOR DECLINED TO VIEW MY PHOTOS OF THE ACCIDENT SCENE. A FEW WEEKS LATER I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE FINDINGS SHOWED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THE CASE HAD BEEN CLOSED. I APPEALED BUT WAS ONCE AGAIN DENIED. OTHER OCCURRENCES OF A SIMILAR, BUT LESS DRAMATIC, NATURE OCCURRED WITH THE VEHICLE BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE ACCIDENT. I REPORTED SEVERAL OF THESE TO THE DEALER. FINALLY IN MAY I WAS TOLD I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND THEY REPROGRAMMED IT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OCCURRENCES SINCE. I AM CONVINCED MY CAR HAD/HAS A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT POSES A DANGER TO BOTH ME AND THOSE AROUND ME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS STORIES ONLINE ABOUT PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON 2014 JEEPS. ...UPDATED 03-10-16 *BF *CN
I STARTED MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND STEPPED OUTSIDE TO ASSIST MY SON WHO WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. BEFORE I COULD WALK AROUND, FROM BEHIND, THE JEEP STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS, PICKING UP SPEED, AND HITTING ANOTHER PARKED SUV. I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED JUST "ASSUMED" MY SON, ACCIDENTALLY, TOUCHED THE GEARS, BUT WONDERED HOW/WHY WOULD THE JEEP MOVE WITHOUT THE BRAKE EVER BEING DEPRESSED. THEIR WAS REAR DAMAGE TO MY SUV AND REAR/FRONT DAMAGE TO THE OTHER PERSON'S CAR. IT IS NOW BEING PUBLISHED THAT BOTH THE 2014 AND 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF ROLLING ON THEIR OWN--IT NOW EXPLAINS EVERYTHING--MY SUV DID IT. IT WAS NOT PARKED ON A SLOPE, HILL, OR ANY TYPE OF INCLINE--JUST A FLAT SURFACE.

THERE IS A LOUD BUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE UNDER CARRIAGE AT START-UP
ON FRI., 1/16/15 @ 6:20AM - I STOPPED AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND OPENED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND STEPPED OUT, AS I PUT MY LEFT FOOT ON THE GROUND TO GET OUT THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND THE DOOR CAUGHT ME AND IT DRUG ME DOWN UNDER THE VEHICLE AND ROLLED OVER MY LEFT/RIGHT LEG AND PROCEEDED TO TRAVEL DOWN THE DRIVE AND CROSSED OVER MY NEIGHBORS LAND AND HIT THE SCHOOL BUS ENTRY DOOR/SIDE OF BUS. I WAS SHOUTING TO MY NEIGHBOR TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AS I FEEL INTO THE WOODS IN TREMENDOUS PAIN. MY NEIGHBORS CAME TO MY RESCUE AND CALLED 911 AS THEY THEN CALLED MY HUSBAND (HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO WORK) THE AMBULANCE CAME AND GAVE ME MEDICAL ATTENTION AND TOOK ME TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. I WENT THROUGH NUMEROUS EXRAYS AND THEN FOLLOW-UP DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS. WOUND CARE WAS NEEDED FOR WEEKS ON MY LEFT HEAL AS THE TIRE BENT MY LEFT FOOT ALMOST IN....HALF.. TO THIS DAY I STILL NEED TO KEEP IT ELEVATED AND HAVE PROBLEMS WITH BOTH ANKLES/FEET/HEALS..
WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO CURVE OF FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, FELT A SLIGHT JERK OR POP ON THE STEERING WHEEL THEN LOST ALL CONTROL OF STEERING WHEEL. STEERING WHEEL DID NOT CONTROL CAR, SO I VEERED STRAIGHT OFF RAMP AND INTO GRASS/PLANT AREA. I DID TAKE A VIDEO SHOWING HOW THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SPINNING FREELY AROUND IN CIRCLES. VERY FORTUNATE THIS DID NOT OCCUR 30 SECONDS LATER WHEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY AND LOSING CONTROL OF STEERING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER INSPECTION, WAS TOLD THAT THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT BROKE LOOSE FROM UPPER SHAFT, CAUSING STEERING WHEEL TO SPIN FREELY. WHEN SHAFT BROKE LOOSE IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE CLOCKSPRING. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER BASED ON THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS DEFECT AND POTENTIALLY FATAL RESULTS, WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS COMMUNICATED AS THE CAR IS ONLY 14 MONTHS OLD WITH ONLY 18,200 MILES ON IT....UPDATED 01/23/15 *BF...... THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR OBSTRUCTS OBJECTS ON THE LEFT FORWARD SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING, THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS DRIVING ITSELF, SHIMMYING LEFT AND RIGHT UNCONTROLLABLY. WE COULD NOT CORRECT THE VEHICLE FROM SLIGHTLY FISHTAILING EVEN AFTER REMOVING PRESSURE FROM ACCELERATOR AND REDUCING SPEED TO 5-10 MPH AND DRIVING ON THE SHOULDER WHERE THERE WAS MORE TRACTION. WE WERE TOTALLY UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. WE SWITCHED THE SELECT-TERRAIN KNOB TO "SNOW" TO SEE IF THAT HELPED, BUT IT CONTINUED TO BE VIRTUALLY UNCONTROLLABLE. WE WERE AFRAID TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE DUE TO ALL OTHER TRAFFIC FLYING PAST US GOING NORMAL SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE MIRACULOUSLY MADE IT TO A GAS STATION RIGHT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOOK IT OUT FOR TWO DIFFERENT DRIVES AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM AND COULD FIND NO ERROR CODES. WE ALSO INQUIRED IF IT WAS PART OF THE P64 RECALL REGARDING THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL STABILITY AND WERE TOLD NO EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEM THAT THE RECALL ADDRESSES.THIS WAS THE MOST TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD IN A VEHICLE. IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY VEHICLES IN OUR IMMEDIATE VICINITY AT THE ONSET OF THE ISSUE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. THE SUNROOF'S AUTOMATIC FUNCTIONS STOP WORKING SO WHEN IT FAILS YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE CLOSE BUTTON REPEATEDLY WHILE THE SUNROOF MOVES MAYBE 1/4" ON EACH DEPRESSION OF THE BUTTON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MOTOR ONCE AND FOR THE OTHER 4 TIMES I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED TO BE CALIBRATED. THE LAST SUNROOF FAILURE THEY WENT IN AND WENT THROUGH ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND SAID THEY FOUND SOME ELECTRICAL WIRING PROBLEMS AND FIXED THEM. THE SUNROOF FAILED AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT, DUE TO ANOTHER ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ISSUE. THE ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONS REGULARLY WHICH AFFECT THE RADIO CONTROLS, NAVIGATION, CENTRAL LOCKING, PHONE, AND I GET RANDOM ERRONEOUS ERRORS ON THE DASH DISPLAY. THE RADIO/NAVIGATION UNITS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE NAVIGATION SCREEN LOCKS UP BUT THE VOICE WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE YOU VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU MANUALLY LOCK THE VEHICLE AND START WALKING AWAY THE HORN WILL BEEP TWICE AND THE VEHICLE WILL UNLOCK LIKE THE KEYS HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN THE CAR, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE IN YOUR HAND. I WAS TOLD YOU CANNOT USE THE LOCK BUTTONS ON YOUR DOOR TO LOCK THE VEHICLE. WHEN YOU WALK UP TO THE CAR AND GRAB THE DOOR HANDLE TO UNLOCK THE CAR IT FAILS, AND YOU HAVE TO GRAB THE DOOR HANDLE ALL OVER REPEATEDLY TO GET IT TO UNLOCK. THE DASH DISPLAY WILL GIVE FALSE MESSAGES WHILE DRIVING LIKE ALREADY IN DESIRED GEAR AND NO ONE HAS TOUCHED THE SHIFTER. THE VOICE WILL COME ON RANDOMLY AND ASK YOU WHAT NUMBER YOU WANT TO CALL, AGAIN NO BUTTONS NOR THE DISPLAY HAVE BEEN TOUCHED. UPON TURNING ON THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER IT QUICKLY HEATED UP TO 125 DEGREES. THEN 142 DEGREES, THEN 150... THE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE READING WAS 169 DEGREES AT WHICH POINT I SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE AMERICAN BURN ASSOCIATIONS STATES THAT 3RD DEGREE BURNS WILL OCCUR TO HUMAN SKIN WITH 5 SECONDS OF EXPOSURE AT 140 DEGREES, 2 SECONDS AT 148 DEGREES AND 1 SECOND AT 158 DEGREES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE WITH NO REPAIRS BEING CONDUCTED BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE NOR FIND AN ERROR CODE.
