NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The passenger side headrest deployed while driving under normal conditions. This vehicle has NOT been in an accident of any type. The plastic inside of the headrest is broken and cannot be reset. I am concerned this will happen to the driver-side while driving if this issue is not addressed and the faulty part replaced.
The vehicle has a significant safety recall out with no timely identified repair offered. Jun 09,2022 Manufacturer Recall NumberZ46 NHTSA Recall Number22V-406 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available How can the manufacturer expect people to feel safe driving with the possibility of a unplanned sudden stop putting their lives, their passengers lives and the lives of other travelers on the road at risk. If Jeep can't fix the issue they should replace the vehicles.
The drivers headrest opened.
Transmission suddenly stopped accelerating when pressing pedal. In reverse suddenly began making a whirring sound. 155,000 miles

The driver side seatbelt will not retract. This is a significant risk in the event of an accident. Yes, my local mechanic has confirmed that the seatbelt is not retracting.
Sunroof suddenly shattered on interstate 90. Nothing hit or fell on the car. Looks as if excessive pressure in the cabin exploded the glass sunroof out.
Transmission failed when I was merging on a highway. Had it replaced and still doesn’t seem normal. This is the electronic shift and apparently has nonstop issues with the 2015 model. Will probably need replaced again before warranty is up and it was done at a jeep dealership.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle erroneously shifted into neutral while driving. While the vehicle was parked with the gear shifter in the park, the vehicle inadvertently moved. The service shifter warning light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under recall. There was no warranty coverage. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V240000 (Power Train). The approximate failure mileage was 118,400.
The vehicle will repeatedly die when at a stop light or a stop sign. The dealer has been notified but states that the parts to replace and fix the issue have not been shipped to dealers or are not available. Manufacturer Recall NumberZ46 NHTSA Recall Number22V-406
I purchased a used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L V8 Hemi on 03/03/2023 at approximately 7:30pm from Rairdon Honda in Burien Washington. The car started displaying on the dashboard that the seat belts for the passengers weren’t on even though the seatbelts were indeed on, and then the sensors for the airbags started going off stating that there was a problem with the airbag sensor. The car was then taken back to Rairdon Honda in Burien and they simply stated that they recently Replaced the car battery and that was the reason as to why the sensors weren’t working. After speaking to one of the technicians they stated since the seatbelt sensors showed that the seatbelt wasn’t on that incase of an accident the airbags wouldn’t deploy. This was not disclosed at the time of sale, I was reassured that everything would be fine when I took the car home the first time. I can’t risk having a car that has such severe safety issues and put my son and partner in this car knowing that the airbags could possibly fail to deploy.
While in motion, vehicle lost all power; the engine stalled, brakes failed and lost power steering. The vehicle shifted into neutral. I put the vehicle back in drive and it went back to neutral. I turned the ignition off and restarted. My husband was driving and I was in the passenger seat, with my 5 year old daughter in the backseat. If there had been oncoming traffic, we’d have hit them head on.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The contact stated while driving 45 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as needed. The vehicle sputtered as if it was about to stall but then returned to normal functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that parts to complete the recall repair was not yet available. The failure mileage was 122,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
When are you going to make Jeep fix this fuel pump issue? It has been over 9 months and they stilll say they don't have the parts! People are going to die. HELP!
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated the infotainment system turned off intermittently while driving, and occasionally failed to turn off when the vehicle was turned off. The dealer was contacted and informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
The past 3 times putting gas in 1) after gassing, Jeep started, would not go into gear. Shut off, restarted, was fine. 2) after gassing, Jeep started however shaking, shut off, restarted, however shook until it caught and started. 3) after gassing, the 3rd time it started. The Jeep would shake, like the old cars would diesel when shut off, this is what it was like. Shows multiple codes. Purge valve under hood replaced in November, replacing again to see if its bad. Rear purge valve replaced (driver rear wheel). Next step is smoking the vehicle to find the leaks, believe to be the gas filler neck. Often when putting gas in, gas clicks off. Also the capless tank is awful, often difficult to put the hose in. This is my 3rd JGC, the 07 had issues and this one. The 2011 was a dream! These are manufacturer's issues and should be repaired FREE of charge!
The contact's wife owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission was slipping in and out of gear. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving below 35 MPH, and while driving from a complete stop from a traffic light. Additionally, the contact stated that after parking and exiting the vehicle, the vehicle started to move forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transfer case, the PTU, the U-joint, and the front and rear differentials needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20E037000 (Power Train). The dealer and the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the PTU warranty because the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Loud ticking noise from engine that speeds up upon acceleration. Failing rocker arm causing debris leading to ticking noise. No error codes. Upon personal investigation online, have found "Pentastar Tick" to be a known problem in 2013-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees on Jeep forums. Problem can lead to misfire while driving, including jerking, damage to cam shaft, as well as engine damage.
Front passenger seat belt will not retract

Rear diff internally broken, prevents vehicle from moving forward or shifting into parking. Costing $3000 to fix. Problem has been confirmed by car mechanic shop. All reports have been attached.
Both headrests have deployed on there own breaking the safety clip to retract on the driver and passenger side.
While driving my car, it will randomly shift into neutral. The engine will almost shut off while the battery will remain on. I get a message on the dash telling me to shift into gear but can only shift into park. After shifting into park, I have to turn my car off, and back on before I can shift into drive. I have had multiple parts replaced on my car to fix the issue but it is still happening. I find the car shifts to neutral when going over 55 MPH and then I lose all power.
The oil filter housing in the Jeep Gladiator, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee is known to have serious problems and safety concerns. The Pentastar oil filter housing used in these vehicles can crack and warp due to heat exposure and this can lead to serious oil leaks. Despite knowing about this issue, the company has never issued a recall, instead, they have discontinued the production of the Pentastar and redesigned the oil filter housing for newer vehicle models. https://vehiclefreak.com/jeep-oil-filter-housing-recall-guide-2013-to-2017/?fbclid=IwAR372r_Z1vlEwSsMz6HmMA6_Vn1IEqL3SnyNYNGCuCVbH25-F7cUtjkhzpU
At a speed of 30mph, was slowing down coming up to a red light, as the brakes were being pressed the motor began to rev up and try to accelerate despite me fully pressing the brakes. I had to put the vehicle in neutral and shut it down. I merely missed hitting another vehicle. I called the dealer who had no information for me. No warning lights were on or prior to the reving and acceleration of the vehicle as I was trying to come to a stop at a red light. I am reading numerous forums of Jeep owners reporting the same issue. This really should be investigated before someone is seriously injured or killed, which maybe there have been reports of such already. In my case, there was no injury or damage because I was lucky enough to have no vehicle beside me and had a place to vere off to to pull over quickly. If that hadn’t been the case, an accident would have occurred. I can’t say if this vehicle has malfunctioned like this previously because I purchased 2 days ago.
trying to shift from drive to park, will only go to reverse. Must release shifter and push to park again for it to shift to park
While driving the vehicle at low speed and without any warning or outside influence the headrest exploded and hit me in the back of the head. I was able to retain control of the vehicle because of the slow speed and situation. I have since learned that this has happened to many other vehicles of my model and is related to the collision reactive headrest retaining components suddenly breaking. I recently had a long trip driving this vehicle at interstate speeds and this cpould have been a very serious event.
The contact's son owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle owner took the vehicle to the local dealer for maintenance and was informed that the oil filter housing had an oil leak and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
THERE IS A RECALL FOR FUEL PUMP DELIVERY. MYVWIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND IT COMPLETELY STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ARAPAHOE CHRYSLER AUTONATION JEEP, PARTS SUPPOSEDLY ARE ON BACK ORDER HOWEVER WE HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT THEY DON'T HAVE PARTS.
Noticed a wet substance under the hood and a smell of oil/antifreeze (couldn’t determine either or) coming from vents prior to purchase. I was told it would be looked at and taken care of. After purchase I noticed a heavy leak under the vehicle and when i touched it, I again smelled the same oil/antifreeze. I took it back to the dealership and they replaced the radiator. It continued to produce a leak, and chose to stop and get a diagnosis and they said it was the oil cooler. I then chose to return it to the dealership for repair and they insist it was left over spillings from the previous repair. It still has that same wet substance dripping from under the vehicle. I’m concerned about the safety of my life if it is indeed the oil cooler.
Vehicle only has 38,000 miles and suddenly had visible oil leaking from underneath. No warning lights came on but I took to service center for inspection. The oil filter housing was found to be defective and "leaking badly". Technician informed me that because the component is plastic vs. metal it is a known defect in my vehicle make/model. I also confirmed many complaints of same issue in online forums. I contacted manufacturer but since vehicle is out of warranty they would not assist. Service provider stated the issue is of significant safety risk as engine could lose all oil, overheat, and become undriveable. Cost to repair=$1800
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled, almost causing the contact to crash. During the failure, the vehicle experienced a sudden jolt and a thud. The vehicle also failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light illuminated. After turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 107,000.

When shifting of and on the vechicle when driving may go down in a gear then you have to push up in column to get back in drive. It’s been happening off and on for awhile but is concerning.
The oil filter housing assembly cracked. I noticed oil leaking yet my oil light would never come on . I took it to be looked at and they had to replace the housing component. I was told that this has been a common problem with vehicles and for me to keep all receipts . If I didn’t pay close attention to my vehicle I could have ruined the engine with the amount of oil that I was loosing. Especially since no warning light was being displayed.
While driving down the road my car will shift into Neutral while going at at full speed driving down the freeway, and loses all power. I have to pull over on the side of the road turn the car off and restart. This has happened 6 times and is very dangerous. There are multiple dates that this has happened. It looks as though this should fall under NHTSA recall #16V529000?
With no warning or reason the active headrest deployed while I was at a stop light having been stopped for a few minutes and smacked my passenger in the back of the head.
The front passenger headrest deployed unexpectedly while driving hitting me. The car was not involved in an accident to cause it to deploy. I have not taken it to a dealership to diagnose - it is pretty obvious though (you don’t really need a qualified technician to tell you your headrest deployed). It can’t be pushed back together and it has to be replaced. There were no warning signs or any physical adjustment being made of the headrest at the time of deployment. Since this is a safety feature of the vehicle - like an airbag - a malfunction like this should not be acceptable. I would like to see this investigated and a recall issued for the component that caused the failure. Chrysler need to be held accountable for things like this. We can’t have safety systems failing unexpectedly and then charging the owner $1000 to fix them again with the same crap that is going to break again.
Headrest airbag deployment spontaneously. This is a known issue that has caused numerous accidents. Here is a link with multiple people experiencing the issue. People are directed to contact Jeep Cares but this is a safety issue that needs to be recalled. https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/headrest-clips-spontaneously-broken.222166/
Driver headrest popped open
Plastic Oil Cooler leaking. This is a $800 repair, and seems to be a very common problem among Jeep Grand Cherokees.
The driver side headrest popped out. The latch to secure it again also brown when it randomly came out. Car was sitting still and there was no impact of any sort.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle started to shake and stall. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact steered the vehicle off the road before the vehicle stalled. The contact made several attempts to restart the vehicle; however, after each attempt the vehicle started and then immediately stalled. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light illuminated each time. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer; however, the dealer did not have the part to perform the repair, and the contact was placed on a waiting list. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Oil leak from oil filter cooler housing it has been recalled on 2014 jeeps but not the 2015 and it is the same issue
At low speed, electronic shifter shifts itself into neutral. Warning light comes on to put shifter back in drive. No engine light comes on, vehicle has not been inspected by anyone.
car engine has a sound of tapping. I research on YouTube ?it is rocker arms ticking when rocker arms broken. many complains about this problem of jeep v6 3.6 engines. it can cause engine brake down.
Cruise Control, O2 SENSOR, Fuel/Propulsion System , BATTERY, If your check engine light is not on when you take it to the service department they say its hard to detect serves needs.
