NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the infotainment screen was significantly delaminated, causing unintended screen activation, preventing the driver from activating some vehicle safety functions as needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to purchase a new screen because the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Sometimes when I try to fill the gas tank on my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, it acts like it is full and will keep tripping the safety in the gas pump nozzle and shut off the gas flow. It acts randomly at the same or different gas stations without any warning. Occasionally gas will spray out of the tank, risking my safety and the safety of others near the pump. The only way I can fill the tank when this happens is to turn the nozzle sideways and fill it very slowly. I have checked a car complaint site on the internet and found numerous complaints about the same problem, dating back to 2018.
Transmission failed while driving. Had someone been behind me they would have hit me. It was towed to a dealer and through the extended warranty it was deemed a faulty transmission. There was no indication of an issue until it happened. Once the transmission failed the check engine light came on.
The infotainment screen is delaminating and the digitizer is separating from the screen. Where separated, the screen prompts the driver to change settings, arbitrarily changes settings, or changes radio settings and renders the screen unusable. The driver is unable to adjust important settings on the vehicle and sometimes has to turn the screen off totally which renders the backup camera useless. The constant prompting to change settings or arbitrarily changing settings or making unwanted phone calls is distracting to the driver and draws his attention from driving. I have contacted FCA(Jeep’s parent company) and they are aware of the problem but have declined to address it.
Delamination of the touch screen control panel. Corner began with a small air bubble and proceeded to spread across the top and towards the bottom along the edge. Causes "phantom touches". Most common symptom is repeatedly asking for date/time input regardless if you try to close it out. It will beep repeatedly. One time the system reset itself while driving after a session of these "phantom touches". This system controls literally everything and can be very distracting to the driver while driving. Even with the 5k gold dealer warranty this is not covered. Chrysler was zero help. I see many complaints of the same exact description online. We have had this vehicle for 8 months and it's already an issue every few months. Now we are expected to shell out $1,500 for a new head unit. Not what we expected for $30k+. -ac compressor replacement (Dealer installed sterling wheel crooked doing this job and had to hold it an additional 30 hours.) -screen delamination -squeaking driverside window
The radio had a delamination issues cause if the screen to go haywire. If turned on the radio would automatically flip through all the settings on the head unit. From headed seats to navigation to music it rendered the entire unit unusable. It might as well came without a radio or navigation because it couldn’t be used.
All features of the radio and heating and cooling system on my vehicle Do not properly work. The heat will switch to air at full blast without touching anything. The radio will switch between channels or stop working. You also cannot touch the screen to toggle. Or just the volume. this is extremely dangerous as it happens out of nowhere as you are driving. It is clear when looking online that this is a common issue. This is extremely dangerous. I have reported this to the dealership but they said they have not seen this issue. This is clearly not the truth since it’s so easy to Google and see numerous reports of the same incident.
Afternoon 28/11/2022. On I275 North near Exit 50. Tha cruise control turned on and the car started speeding up. I almost ran into the back of a truck in Front of me. I applied the brake and the cruise control turned off. Also the radio won't stay on station and occasionally the seat heaters come on by without touching any controls.
The contact's daughter owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle had been serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Vehicle Speed Control) in November 2018. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
The touchscreen that controls heating/air/radio/backup camera/etc... is going haywire during driving the vehicle. This causes major distraction as it is flipping to one control to the next, changing the climate controls switching the navigation system and radio stations all while driving. There is no way to turn off the touchscreen or keep it frozen so it continues to do this while the car is in use. There are no warnings and the operator is powerless to make it stop.
8.4" Uconnect LCD display is de-laminating, resulting in loss of system controls, backup camera and erratic behavior. This is distracting and can create a dangerous situation while operating the vehicle.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee is having an issue known as "Screen Delamination". This is the radio unit and it causes "ghost touches" to happen all the time. I have done a lot of research on this issue, because Jeep will not replace the faulty unit, because I am not the original owner of the vehicle. I contacted Jeep and they told me they will not open a case for me since I was not the original owner. There are several jeep boards where owners are having the same issue. This issue causes the radio to change stations on its own, make phone calls by itself, change the settings in the system, control the AC functions. All this happens when no one is touching the screen or anything. I feel like since there have been so many complaints about this, that Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler should replace these units.
8.4 radio screen is delaminating, the delaminating and causing safety issues while driving. If cold out the heated seats stay on even after warming up, cannot turn off due to screen ghosting/flickering. I purchased to Jeep brand new from Military Auto Sells in South Korea. Tried to get it repaired here in Korea under my warrantee, was told it did not fall under my warrantee. FYI, My actual address is as below (Not California), no option for Military living living overseas. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The glue between the radio and the touchscreen melts and makes the radio perform phantom changes. This is a distraction to the driver and the cause a major safety issue. Also, as the glue melts, it leaks onto the wiring of all the components under the screen including the AC, all the parking sensor and traction control off controls
My screen in the truck is constantly touching other functions on the screen. It’s a safety hazard because I can only use the navigation for 2 mins and then I have to try and fight with the screen so that it can stay on navigation. It reroutes me. Turns on the heated seats, mess with the settings and etc. it’s the stock radio not aftermarket. I seen multiple complaints regarding this matter.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the infotainment screen had begun to delaminate which had rendered the screen inoperable. Due to the failure, the contact could not use the front or the rear defrosters. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where he was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Uconnect system screen is manually making phone calls, switching on and off rear camera, changing settings, constantly switching back and forth as if someone was making changes. Unable to use the uconnect system at all now, this has been getting worse since starting and now I have to turn off the entire system to drive.
Display screen has been bubbling since I purchased in 2021. Now recently while driving display presses buttons on screen while driving without any physical contact. Calls random people from phone without touching it. Impacting ability to use navigation safely, constantly having to switch screens back. Also, at times blue screen appears, and sometimes rear camera view stays on screen while driving.
Radio, is malfunctioning. Screen blinking all the time. Can not get to the control module, therefore can not get to controls, for heat, defrost ( which is safety issue) can't set back up camera. Very distracting while driving. Some of the features come on themself and you can not get them turned off. It is constantly taking your eyes off the road to focus on the screen to try to correct the issues.
The center 8.4” UConnect touch screen /control panel’s interface has delaminated with effectively makes the federally mandated back up camera and other vehicle systems inoperable. The delamination of the touch screen causes numerous issues including screen blanking out , back up camera failure , error messages for clock that consumes the entire screen display as well as random issues with Apple Car Play and the OEM Navigation system. There is a highly distracting audible sound due to this failure /defect. This is a clear safety issue and is well documented as a common defect with 2018 Grand Cherokees in automotive forums and social media.
Uconnect system constantly displays to change time. Not able to change time and the system constantly beeps while driving. Also it is obstructing the back up camera. Research online through Jeep forums state this is a common issues with the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Is this a recall or is a service bulletin available for this issue?
On October 23, 2021 my daughter and I got into our vehicle a 2018 jeep grand cherokee and as I started the vehicle the passenger side headrest deployed unexpectedly striking my daughter in the back of the head causing severe pain which ultimately turn to a very bad headache , this is the second occurrence of this issue the first being back in mid 2020 on the drivers side headrest which I also sustained a very intense blow to the back unexpectedly. I also filed a report on that incident with the NHTSA. This is not acceptable and I am almost positive that their are many people out there that have experienced the same issue but have not reported it! Now being there is no recall of this issue its not right for me or anyone to have to pay out of pocket for a clearly defective issue! This repair should be the Jeep Corporation and not the consumer perhaps I should look into some Law firm for help on this matter!
Back up camera failed to engage when I was in reverse and backing out of a parking spot. I came close to hitting a vehicle which was moving behind me. Once my vehicle was home, parked and turned off, the monitor screen remained backlit and became quite warm to the touch. No messages/warnings appeared in advance to indicate backup camera failure. I did contact our local Jeep dealer and the assistant service manager took a report upon our insistence. The vehicle was 250 miles outside of the 36,000 warranty window. They would not even look at vehicle until appt. 8 days out. We researched online and found other owners of 2018 Jeeps had the same issue and they solved it themselves by disconnecting the battery cables allowing the electric system to 'reboot'. We tried and it was successful. We were concerned not only about the safety of not having a back up camera engaged and working, but also about the continued warming of the dash area in a parked, turned off car.
Our 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee which has less than 16,000 miles has developed an unusual problem. The uconnect screen console with radio will no longer stay on any station, instead it jumps from station & goes from xm, fm, to am, all on it's own. Others have reported rear canera locks up, stalling has occured, bluetooth phone connection begins making calls fron the contacts list and seat warmer & cooler go on & off. Jeep is aware of these problems & more. Jeep & our dealership says they are aware of these problems. They say it is caused by delamination, that is the glue used to mount the screen & cosole is melting and dripping down on connections on the moterboard causing much erratic behaviour. This collection of problems is certainly a safety issue. However, at this time Jeep has not set a recall. It looks as though Jeep has decided to just stick it to their loyal customers and let them pay up to $ 2,000 for replacing the console. Jeep offers a two year warranty but I am unable to find out if these problems have been addressed or are we getting another screen & console with the same problems. I am trying to find a way to contact Jeep directly but having no luck so far.
Have a 2018 jeep grand Cherokee that audio and, computer control screen is delaminating, causing erratic behavior of the stereo and other random controls like the heated seats turning on and off caused by the delamination of the screen shortly out of the manufacturer warranty of 36,000 miles and I took it to the dealership and they told me it was not covered under warranty and that I would have to pay for a new computer controlled screen I feel this is a safety concern because it can cause distracted driving
Problem #1: ABS sensor malfunction on all 4 wheels causing vehicle to stall on the highway. I could not accelerate and the whole vehicle was jerking. Huge safety issue. Problem #2: The screen/radio/navigation system malfunctioned while driving. The volume was going up and down, it was calling contacts in my phone, turning on air conditioning and heater, turning on seat warmer and cooler, changing radio/ songs, disconnecting and reconnecting to different bluetooths. Also a huge safety issue, I had to pull over until it stopped. Massive distraction.
The radio is glitching. It’s pressing buttons on the touch screen and I’m not touching the screen.
8.4" UConnect Display underwent delamination after only three years of normal use. The resulting "Phantom touches" have made the safety functions integrated in the Infotainment display un-useable. Dealership has failed to accept the factory defect of this product -- quote for repair is over $1,200 including parts and labor.
The car computer screen was malfunctioning and then failed. All internal system lights warning lamps and service messages appeared and continued flashing until the battery died. I am attempting to get a dealer to inspect the vehicle. Vehicle has intermittently run; concern there could be a fire. Vehicle has left me stranded. Symptoms of the problem were failures with the vehicle entertainment system. Software would not update. Radio would not hold stations and the GPS showed the vehicle in a different area greatly distant from where it actually was. Took vehicle in for this service when the problems compounded.
The LCD screen of the Audio/Navigation system is delaminating. This allowing the adhesive in the screen to leach to the bottom of the screen towards control points for several vehicle systems. This is a known issue with many FCA product lines. FCA (Mopar/Stellartis) refuse to assist with repair for out-of-warranty vehicles. I think this is a safety problem as unexpected changes/activations of various vehicle systems may lead to driver distraction and/or error. There are no warning lights or alarms associated with the problem. I am the second owner of the vehicle and I noticed the issue a few days after purchase.
The 8.4" infotainment screen has delaminated and is causing phantom button presses. Multiple functions are accessed via the infotainment screen (media, climate, comfort features, backup camera, etc) and the delimitation is creating a serious safety concern because the screen is recognizing phantom touches that are changing the radio, turning it up, turning on my backup camera, changing the climate, making phone calls, and so on. All of this occurs while driving.
Infotainment system-System works on its own. Changes radio stations and bands at will causing driver distraction. Changes Temp/vent direction at will. Worst is that it has called 911 4 times while driving. Wont allow hands free calling or GPS entry. I have 1st dealer appointment next month as it does not seem to be a priority to dealer.
My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has encountered an issue that several thousand others have encountered. The UConnect screen delaminates and phantom-pushes buttons like heat, AC or changes apps like Maps while driving. This is obviously a huge safety concern especially since I'm regularly driving children. I called my local dealership and they told me to contact the FCA and open a case. They let me know that in many cases, the FCA actually covered the cost of repair since they have it well documented that this is a safety concern. I called and they told me that my warranty ended 30 days ago and that this unless it becomes a recall will fall on me even though they have acknowledged that this is a safety concern. I unfortunately do not have the $2000 in these times to cover the cost of repair for this manufacturers' defect and hope to be reimbursed at a later date. So now I am stuck with a defective safety compromising manufacturers' defect and no fix. God forbid something happens to me or my family because of this.
The radio screen is delaminating causing causing ghost touching turning heated seats on air conditioning on or off and off and turning radio stations . It is a dangerous distraction. Almost caused accident due to distraction.
The touch screen interface of the U-Connect system on my Jeep is delaminating from the screen behind it. This has resulted in bubbles forming in the screen and the system is now registering ghost touches on the interface. This is creating a very distracting and unsafe driving experience as the system constantly jumps around and flashes different screens while the vehicle is in motion.
The center 8.5" Information/Entertainment touch screen is delaminating. The delamination is creating "ghosting" of the system causing cycling through various screens and applications. This is VERY distracting and dangerous by removing eyes off the road to see what is happening. If navigating with built-in Nav or via external (Apple Play), the ghosting changes destinations, cancels navigation and/or changes displays. When occurring at key turn points, diverts driver focus from the road to the screen. If they system is in radio, the ghosting will cycle through every radio station randomly, distracting from the road and creating distracting noise/sound. I have mentioned this to two separate Jeep dealers. They state it occurred out of warranty and it will cost me over $1000 to fix it. I am on a Jeep forum where this is happening to many other 2018 8.5" touchscreen systems.
There is an ongoing malfunction with the infotainment screen. While driving, it causes the heated seats to turn on, the heat to turn on and increase to hot, the radio to change stations randomly every 3-5 seconds, the placing of phone calls people randomly & repeatedly, the navigation to repeatedly leave the map so that it doesn't work, and the backup camera to come on and stay on while driving forward. All these things are extremely distracting while driving causing it to be very dangerous, especially on the highway or when many other cars are present. The problem has been reproduced at the dealer. They tried to update the software for the infotainment system, but this did not fix the problem. Also, the screen is delaminating which could be a part of the problem. The problem has not been confirmed by police, insurance reps, or manufacturer. There were no warning lamps/messages prior to the failure. The incidents first began about 9 months or more ago.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the infotainment screen independently performed random features without warning. The failure affected the climate control features including the defroster. The contact called several unknown dealers and was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The contact also contacted the manufacturer to file a complaint but was denied. The contact was also informed that the vehicle would be covered under warranty if he was the original owner. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
I purchased my 2018 Jeep Cherokee right off the dealership lot in Lynnfield MA in August of 2018. I then have had on going issues. Starting with strange squilling sound coming from back of vehicle, this was never found reason by technician but they replaced engine air filter jume 2020, then my heater wasn’t working in dec.2020, replaced motor blower with wheel, then may2021 my vehicle just shut down as I was driving on the highway to work at night no prior warnings beforehand, lucky no one was hurt towed in and no start and transmission was stuck no fuel pressure, dtc related and shorted fuel pump. Replaced module fuel pump level unit. Now just October 29,2021 my vehicle is not starting I jumped the battery and lights come on but vehicle won’t start. Dealership I purchased vehicle from won’t contact me back so I towed the vehicle to them and still no response. I’m very disappointed in Jeep I don’t feel safe or that my vehicle is not dependable and for all the money I keep putting into it I should have a dependable car.
Uconnect screen is bubbling and delaminating. As a result it is causing the touch screen to act crazy. Back up camera will freeze and stay on screen even when not in reverse, radio will change on its own, clock setting will continue to flicker on screen, air and heat will randomly turn on and up. Entire touch screen will freeze and act up.
Radio screen delaminates causing radio functions change without notice, heated seats turn on without notice. Glue has started to leak down towards electrical connections and radio mother board.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH, the instrument panel board inadvertently engaged on its own turning the seat warmer on and increasing the air conditioner temperature. The contact also stated that the navigation system started malfunctioning and the vehicle was making phone calls independently while her phone was connected to Bluetooth. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle however, the failure reoccurred several times while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle in for diagnosis. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
I purchased the vehicle new and it now has 29500 miles on it. The screen for the navigation (which controls stereo, climate, phone, and everything else) started delaminating. When the screen starts doing phantom touches it is very distracting to the driver. Also, as the glue melts, it leaks onto the wiring of all the components under the screen including the AC, all the parking sensor and traction control off controls.
The digitizer screen on the control panel delaminated, which causes multiple, repeated, continuous ghost presses. This is a problem because it makes all the features such as the rear camera and navigation unusable as well ad being extremely distracting. Also, the adhesive that bonded the layers is leaking, which might disrupt the electrical circuity. This could poses a serious safety threat if it affects the vehicle controls such as braking, steering, and acceleration.
Radio screen started bubbling up since week or so ago now all my controls are going crazy
The electrical system on the touch screen is overheating I'm assuming from the engine area causing malfunctioning of the screen,ac,heating and radio as well as Bluetooth functioning. It is not safe for driving to have to deal with these issue while functioning the vehicle.
The 8.4 inch Uconnect driver information and control screen is delaminating leading to inoperability of the screen and driver control functions. Others have reported similar issues on this model and other OEM models. OEM refuses to replace out of warranty. My vehicle has about 41,000 miles and just over 3 years old. Out of warranty. Delamination is very visibly apparent.
The component I am reporting is the Uconnect touch screen/control panel within the head unit of the car. The screen is delaminating, which is resulting in distorted images during use (quite noticeable when using the backup camera). Also, while the vehicle is in motion, random buttons are being pressed on the interface as a result of this delamination, which is extremely distracting while driving the vehicle. Researching this issue online shows many owners of 2018 Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicles fitted with this same Uconnect screen to be experiencing the same issue, which leads me to believe this is a manufacturer defect.
8.4 Uconnect screen is delaminating
Electronic radio unit constantly flips around to different areas beeping all the time. I think it is called phantom touches. It will change radio channels, affects climate control by turning up heat to 82 degrees, turns on backup camera while driving down the road at 70 miles an hour, constantly changes radio stations, doesn't allow you to use navigation system, plus many other things. I believe this is a known issue as I have seen many complaints on the internet and my dealership also has customers complaining about their cars. I have also made my dealership aware of the issue. They say there is nothing they can do as there has been no recall. There needs to be a recall on these as it is very dangerous to be driving when these things are occurring. Very distracting and you are unable to do anything about it. Sometimes you have to pull over and shut the car off and turn it back on to see if you can correct it but many times it keeps on doing the same thing.
