IN JUNE OF 2006 I HAD AN ACCIDENT THAT DID NOT RESULT IN INJURY WHERE MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY HIT A SMALL POTHOLE AND THE BALL JOINT CAME OUT. I HAD NO CLUE ABOUT THE RECALL SO MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FOR THE DAMAGE AND I WAS CHARGED A $500 DEDUCTIBLE. AFTER FINDING OUT ABOUT THE RECALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS NOW TRYING TO GET THE REIMBURSEMENT OF FEES AND HAS HAD NO LUCK. I IN RETURN ASK THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AT TO PLEASE FIX THE OTHER SIDE SO THAT IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AND THEY REFUSED SAYING THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE OTHER SIDE AND I GOT NOWHERE. TODAY MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THE OTHER SIDE WENT OUT. I AM HAVING MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I AM AFRAID THAT THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS BECAUSE THE RECALL IS NOT IN EFFECT UNTIL LATER IN THIS MONTH. *JB
RECALL 03V46000; PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE TO REPAIR JEEP LIBERTY. IT HAS BEEN EIGHT (8) MONTHS. *AK
DISC BRAKES EMIT A "POPPING"/"CLICKING" NOISE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. NOISE IS INTERMITTENT. NO ACCIDENT OR CRASHES REPORTED AT THIS TIME. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY DAIMLER-CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, NOTING PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED, THEREFORE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE RESOLVED. PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS TO THIS DAY. *JB
2002 LIBERTY TIRES FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY VALVE. *TS THE TIRES WERE CONSTANTLY GOING FLAT AND THE CONSUMER ALWAYS HAD TO ADD AIR. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 IN REGARDS TO THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. SINCE THAT TIME, SHE HAS CALLED MULTIPLE DEALERS IN HER AREA IN AN ATTEMPT TO SCHEDULE A RECALL REPAIR. AS OF JULY 5, 2007, NONE OF THE DEALERS HAVE THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL C36 NOTICE ONE YEAR AGO, BUT DEALERSHIP STILL HAS NOT SCHEDULED ME FOR AN APPOINTMENT. I HAVE MADE TWO APPOINTMENTS WITH THEM BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS CANCELLED BOTH, THEY CLAIM THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS FROM THE MANUFACTURER. NOW I HAVE RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE F23. I WANT THESE TAKEN CARE OF AS SOON AS REASONABLY POSSIBLE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP IS UNRESPONSIVE. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE AT 5 MPH, THE LEFT FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT FRACTURED AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. A NHTSA RECALL, # 03V460000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING THE SUSPENSION; HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AS THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT 2 MPH, THE FRONT RIGHT BEARING FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM BOTH THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AFFECTED ALL EXCEPT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AS WELL AS INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE DOORS OF THE FAILED WINDOW MOTORS WOULD NOT OPEN UNTIL THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,800.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL DETACHED WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC. UPON INSPECTION, A MECHANIC DETERMINED THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BALL JOINT DETACHED. AN NHTSA RECALL, # 03V460000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT IN AUGUST 2004 HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGE UNDER THE RECALL.
THERE HAD BEEN SOME OCCASIONAL FRONT END SQUEAKING BUT NOT ENOUGH TO TAKE NOTICE. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO I WAS INFORMED BY MY MOTHER THAT CERTAIN JEEPS HAD BEEN RECALLED. WE WENT TO JEEP'S WEBSITE PUT IN THE VIN AS THE PAGE REQUESTED AND WERE UNABLE TO FIND A RECORD. ONE SATURDAY MORNING I CALLED A LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP TO ASK IF I COULD BRING IT IN AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WOULD NOT DO ANY GOOD BECAUSE JEEP HAD NOT RELEASED ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECALL AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL EARLY SEPTEMBER AND A LETTER WOULD BE SENT ADVISING OF THE RECALL. SUNDAY, AUGUST 20, 2006 I WAS TAKING OUR DAUGHTER TO WORK AND HEARD AN AWFUL THUD AND THE JEEP LURCHED TO A STOP. I HAD TO LEAVE IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND USE OUR OTHER VEHICLE TO TAKE OUR DAUGHTER TO WORK. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, MY PARTNER TOLD ME THAT SHE CONTACTED HER BROTHER AND HE SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS THE BALL JOINT. I TRIED TO MOVE IT AND THE BALL JOINT BROKE AND DAMAGED THE TIRE AND THE GREY MATERIAL OVER THE TIRE. I CONTACTED JEEP'S HEADQUARTER AS WELL AS A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT WE WERE INFORMED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED IN MARCH OF 2004 (IT WAS A BALL JOIN ISSUE AT THAT TIME AS WELL). THIS WAS NOT REFLECTED ON OUR CARFAX REPORT. *JB
TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET OIL CHANGE, TIRES ROTATED, AND THE 23 POINT INSPECTION. TOLD THEM AT THE TIME OF THE NOISE VEHICLE WAS MAKING. ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE FRONT TWO TIRES AND PAYING TO GET THEM BALANCED AND ALIGNED AS WELL. WAS TOLD THAT IF THE NOISE CONTINUES TO BRING IT BACK. SOUNDS AND NOISE GOT WORSE OVER THE NEXT DAY SO TOOK IT IN THE FOLLOWING DAY. WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE BALL JOINTS THAT ARE ON RECALL AND SO ALL THEY WOULD NEED TO DO IS REPLACE THOSE AND THERE WOULD BE NO COSTS. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE KITS WERE NOT WORKING AND THEY HAD TRIED TWO DIFFERENT ONES FROM TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT TO MAKE THEM WORK THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING KNUCKLES AND IT WOULD COST ME ABOUT $800 TO GET THIS DONE. I REFUSED TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN THE STEERING KNUCKLES WERE NOT DAMAGED AND THE BALL JOINTS WERE THE MANUFACTURERS MISTAKE, SO THEY NEEDED TO FIND SOME BALL JOINTS THAT WORKED OR FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS THEN TOLD TODAY THAT THEY WERE SENT THE STEERING KNUCKLES AND THE BALL JOINTS WORKED WITH THIS REPLACEMENT AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A DISCOUNT OF $628, OF WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT TALK TO ME AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS LIKE TALKING TO AN AUTOMATED ANSWERING SERVICE. THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP IS TO CALL ME IN THE MORNING IF HE COULD DO ANYTHING ELSE FOR ME, WHICH DOES NOT LOOK PROMISING AT ALL. MY ISSUE IS I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A PART THAT WAS NOT DAMAGED JUST SO THE RECALLED PARTS OF BALL JOINTS CAN FIT ON MY VEHICLE THAT THEY WERE ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO FIT. *JB

I REPORTED A NOISE DURING OPERATING MY JEEP LIBERTY, LTD. 4 WD OVER BUMPS AND TURNS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 5 MILES ON 8/13/2002. 3/21/2003 AT 11638 MILES, THE SERVICE SHOP MADE A WARRANTY CLAIM - LUBED THE BUSHINGS. 4/28/2003 AT 12932 MILES, THE SERVICE SHOP MADE ANOTHER WARRANTY CLAIM -SLEEVE & STRAP WAS REPLACED. 2/9/2004, AT 25045 MILES, THE SERVICE SHOP MADE YET ANOTHER WARRANTY CLAIM -REPLACED THE SWAY BAR BUSHINGS & LINKS. I ALSO HAD LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED FOR A RECALL. 4/16/2004, SERVICE SHOP REPOSITIONS THE FT SHIELD AT FT SUSPENSION. THE NOISE NEVER WENT AWAY. AT THE SERVICE SHOPS ADVICE, I NEEDED TO BRING IT IN IF THE NOISE BECAME WORSE. YEAH RIGHT! TWO OTHER MECHANICS SUGGESTED STEERING/SUSPENSION RELATED. ON 4/09/2006, I HAD MY CAR INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE ONCE AGAIN FOR THE WORSEN NOISE. THE SERVICE TEAM REPLACED THE REAR CENTER BALL JOINT AT A COST OF $276.17 AND RETURNED MY VEHICLE. WITH MY WARRANTY RUNNING OUT, THE SERVICE TEAM HAS SUPPOSEDLY FOUND MORE SERIOUS PART CHANGES, OF COURSE. ON 6/15/2006, THE SERVICE TEAM REPLACED THE LOWER BALL JOINT DUE TO WEAR AND REPAIRED A LEAK IN MY TIRE AT THE COST OF $224.05. I ALSO HAVE NOTICED VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. IN ADDITION TO HAVING PAID FOR SERVICES WITH MY WARRANTY STILL EFFECTIVE, I HAVE FURTHER DEVELOPED OTHER SERIOUS CAR ISSUES. I HAVE A LEAK IN MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND MY BRAKE LIGHT & ABS LIGHTS ARE ON. I HAD TO STOP AT A SERVICE STATION TO FILL MY TIRE FROM 10 PSI! ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD LIKE ME TO BRING BACK MY CAR, I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE THE EXPERIENCE FOR A FOURTH VISIT. ON MY LAST TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP, I HAD REQUESTED THAT IF THERE ARE ANY PARTS REPLACED TO PLEASE SAVE THE OLD PART. UPON MY PICK UP OF THE VEHICLE, I DID NOT RECEIVE THESE PARTS. I HAVE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY END OF JULY FOR 1,600.00 JUST IN CASE. *NM

UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, THE LEFT FRONT AXLE WAS ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WHICH WERE FRACTURED. A NHTSA RECALL, #04V596000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE UPPER BALL JOINTS HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY EVERY TIME STALLING OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE VALVE TRAIN ON THE FIFTH CYLINDER OF THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLE DIFFICULT TO UNLATCH AND RED BUTTON IS STUCK IN DOWN POSITION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS STARTED TO SEPARATE WHICH CREATED A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN ACCESS RAMP AT 30 MPH. A NHTSA RECALL, # 03V46000, WAS PERFORMED ON 02/25/2004 CONCERNING, THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS. HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR.
RE: RECALL #F23 (ID#06V-288) JEEP LIBERTY LOWER BALL JOINTS - NOTIFIED OF RECALL IN SEP 2006, DEALER SAYS THEY WERE RECEIVING 3 PARTS KITS PER WEEK (#CBXEF230), WE STILL HAVE 97 CUSTOMERS AHEAD OF US, PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER WITH NO DATE AVAILABLE. OUR MODEL IS A 2002 AND OLDER MODELS WERE TO BE DONE FIRST. PLEASE ADVISE IF ANY ACTION CAN BE TAKEN. *JB
THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY ON THE VEHICLE WILL NOT LATCH. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR HER 2002 JEEP LIBERTY BACK IN AUGUST 2006. THE CONTACT IS HAS BEEN DRIVING HER VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS NOW WITH THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE NOT BEING REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAS CONSTANTLY CALLED HER DEALERSHIP AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE BECAUSE THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAS CALLED OTHER DEALERSHIPS IN HER AREA AND SHE HAS RECEIVED THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THEM.
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED IN JUNE 2006 NOW THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT IS DOING THE SAME THING. SEAT BELT WILL NOT LATCH. JEEP DEALER SAID THERE IS NO RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT SEAT BELT LATCH.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35MPH ON THE HIGHWAY UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THERE WAS A LOUD, BANGING NOISE FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE BY USING THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE RIGHT FRONT BALL JOINT FRACTURED. A NHTSA RECALL, #06V288000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING THE SUSPENSION; HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED.
BALL JOINT SNAPPED WHILE MAKING A TURN AND THE WHEEL CAME OFF AND THE CAR HIT THE GROUND. A YEAR AGO, THE BOTH BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL. DEALERSHIP WANTS TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY AS THEY ARE TOO BUSY. I AM LUCKY I AM ALIVE AFTER WHAT I WENT THROUGH. *JB
MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY BEGAN TO MAKE A NOISE FROM THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA. I CALLED THE DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT ABOUT 10 DAYS OUT. ABOUT HALF WAY BETWEEN MAKING THE APPOINTMENT AND THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BROKE APART DROPPING THAT SIDE OF THE CAR DOWN ON TO THE TIRE. IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE UP ON TO THE FLATBED TOW TRUCK THE TIRE DID SOME DAMAGE TO THE PLASTIC PART OF THE FENDER SURROUNDING THE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED AT THE DEALER (SEACOAST MOTORS) FOR REPAIRS AT ABOUT 5:30 PM ON 8/2/06. AS OF THIS WRITING (8/3/06 @ 1 PM) THEY HAVE NOT LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE OR CONFIRMED THE ACTUAL PROBLEM SO I AM WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF TIME AT THIS POINT. *JB
VEHICLE VIBRATES LOUDLY FROM FRONT DRIVELINE BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH AND OVER 70 MPH, CONCERNED THIS IS A SEVERE, UNSAFE, AND COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE OF MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME DEFINITION FROM OTHER LIBERTY OWNERS. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS ADDED TO OTHER WAIT LISTS. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT A REFUND WOULD NOT BE MADE IF AFTERMARKET PARTS WERE USED.

THERE HAVE BEEN FIVE INSTANCES OF FAILURE OF THE REGULATORS FOR THE REAR DOOR POWER WINDOWS. IN THIS LATEST INCIDENT, THE CABLE FOR THE WINDOWS SNAPPED AND CAME THROUGH THE DOOR LOCK AREA IN THE JAM ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. *TR
WHILE TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR IN MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY, I EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE BALL JOINT DROPPED AND THE BOLT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BALL JOINT STRUCK AND SEVERELY DUG INTO MY JEEP CHROME ALLOY WHEEL. THIS ALL TOOK PLACE WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR AND TRAVELING ONLY ABOUT 10 FEET. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. PLEASE NOTE THAT I DID HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT REGULAR INTERVALS. I HAD ALSO RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE PAST AND WHEN I QUESTIONED MY DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT, THEY STATED THAT IT DID NOT PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE. *JB
DRIVING THE JEEP AROUND 20 MPH. TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR, BUT WOULD GO INTO PARK. I TURNED THE JEEP OFF, RESTARTED IT AND IT WENT INTO GEAR FOR ABOUT 30 FEET, THEN WENT BACK INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN. IT WOULD MOVE AFTER A RESTART EVERY TIME, THEN STOP AGAIN VERY SHORTLY AFTER PUTTING IT INTO GEAR. HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THEY FOUND NO CODES IN THE COMPUTER AND ARE NOW SAYING THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE FILTER TO CLOG. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, A LOUD NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS HEARD. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. UPON ENTERING THE FREEWAY AT HIGHER SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTIES WITH THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP, WHO DETERMINED THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS FRACTURED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT NHTSA RECALL #03V460000 REGARDING SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT, WAS PERFORMED SEVERAL MONTH AGO. THE MECHANIC ADVISED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER TO OBTAIN REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THAT EXISTING RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO REQUESTED THE INVOICES FOR THE REPAIRS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATED THE CONTACT BY PHONE AND BY LETTER, BUT THE COMPANY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS BECAUSE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PERFORMED THEM. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SECOND RECALL LETTER FOR THE SAME SAFETY DEFECT AND EXPECTED THE MANUFACTURER WOULD HONOR THE REPAIRS ALREADY PAID.
MY CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE DOOR LOCKS WHERE OPENING AND CLOSING, SO IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THE BATTERY WAS DEAD SO THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE IT AND THEN THEY WOULD RUN A TEST TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. I INFORMED THE DEALER THAT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS MY OVER HEAD LIGHTS WOULD COME ON EVERY SO OFTEN AND I WOULD HAVE TO GIGGLE THE TURN SIGNAL TO MAKE THEM GO OFF (SOMETIMES USING THE TURN SIGNAL TRIGGERS THE LIGHT TO COME ON). I ASKED IF IT COULD BE A SHORT IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THEY SAID NO IT WAS JUST A DEAD BATTERY. A FEW DAYS LATER I NOTICED THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS ON IN MY CAR AFTER IT GOT DARK OUTSIDE AND THEY WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF EVERY FEW MINUTES. AFTER DISCUSSING THE RECENT RECALL ON THE FRONT BALL BEARINGS WITH A CO-WORKER I FOUND OUT THAT SHE TOO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS (2002 MODEL), I THEN ASKED ANOTHER CO-WORKER WHO OWNS A 2004 MODEL AND HE TOO HAD THIS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS DANGEROUS WHEN THIS HAPPENS ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT BECAUSE IT DISTRACTS THE DRIVER. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT NOW MY LIGHT IS OUT ON THE SHIFT PANEL. I THINK THIS COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT IT LEADING INTO OTHER SHORTS IN THE CAR. I FEEL THAT BECAUSE I NO LONGER HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE THAT THE DEALER IS TRYING TO MAKE MONEY ON ME AND THIS OBVIOUSLY A MALFUNCTION IN THIS MODEL. *JB
FAULTY REAR WINDOW REGULATORS. TO DATE HAVE HAD THE RIGHT AND LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULATORS REPLACED SIX TIMES. 7/2006 RIGHT REGULATOR, 6/2007 LEFT REGULATOR, 7/2007 RIGHT REGULATOR, 9/2008 RIGHT AND LEFT REGULATOR, 8/2010 LEFT REGULATOR. IT IS 2011 AND THEY ARE BOTH NOW BROKE AGAIN AND ARE NOW BEING HELD UP WITH TAPE. I CONTINUE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AS CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO MAKE ME PAY A CO-PAY WHICH IN THE PAST HAS BEEN $150. I REFUSE NOW TO PAY TO REPLACE THEM ANYMORE AND BELIEVE CHRYSLER HAS A DUTY TO MAKE A PERMANENT FIX FOR THE REGULATORS. *TR
JEEP, LIBERTY PURCHASED IN MARCH 2003. ON SATURDAY JULY 15, 2006 VEHICLE WAS BE DROVE HOME ON A COMMON ROUTE. WHILE NEGOTIATING AN S-TURN AT AN ESTIMATED 40 MPH, THE UPPER BALL JOINT FAILED CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL TO FOLD UNDER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. BEING A GOOD DRIVER WITH NO ACCIDENTS, I MANAGED THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL WHILE ALSO NOT HITTING THE BRAKES THUS LEAVING A 261 FT SKID MARK ( I DO HAVE A PICTURE). I HAVE A VERY GOOD MECHANICAL BACKGROUND AND AFTER FURTHER SURVEY HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THE UPPER-BALL JOINT HAD FAILED DUE TO RUST INSIDE THE BALL-CUP AND DETERIORATION OF THE METAL AROUND IT( I HAVE A PICTURE). THIS FAILURE HAS CAUSED AN ESTIMATED $1200.00 IN DAMAGE WHICH INCLUDES REPLACEMENT OF ALL FOUR BALL JOINTS THE TWO UPPER AT MY REQUEST ( NEVER TRUST A PART ON THE VEHICLE THAT HAS FAILED ONCE AND HAS A TWIN BROTHER), PLUS-A TIRE AND RIM, ETC. *LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE ON A RECALL NOTICE BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY CHRYSLER BECAUSE OF NOT BEING IN THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM AS A CUSTOMER. AFTER A WEB SEARCH I FOUND THE RECALL OF THE BALL JOINTS (NICE JOB BY CHRYSLER). AFTER EXCHANGING REPEATED PHONE CALLS WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER, THE "EXPERTS" DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO "IMPACT". I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THERE IS NO WAY THIS JOINT FAILED BY IMPACT BUT I CAN SAY IT FAILED DUE TO BAD ENGINEERING AND FATIGUE WHICH IS WAY TOO SOON CONSIDERING THE VEHICLES LIFE SPAN. IN MY OPINION, CHRYSLER HAS FAILED TO COME CLEAN WITH A PROBLEM THAT WILL SOON BECOME VERY APPARENT WITH ALL IT'S JEEP LIBERTY'S!! *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED BUT, THE LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING WHEEL PERSISTED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SECOND NOTICE FOR THE RECALL, AND HAD THE REPLACEMENT PERFORMED AGAIN. WHEN THE BILL FOR THE REPAIR WAS SUBMITTED TO THE MANUFACTURER, THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE CONTACT, STATING THAT THE REIMBURSEMENT WAS USED UP ON THE FIRST REPLACEMENT. SPEEDOMETER AGAIN BECAME ERRATIC AND THEN INOP. CRUISE CONTROL INOP AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND JUST MADE IT WHEN ENGINE CUT OUT COMPLETELY SENSOR REPLACED AGAIN SECOND TIME WAS CHARGED $91.44!!!! *NM
2002 JEEP LIBERTY CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE HITCH WAS APPROVED USING A SPECIFIC CODE. HOWEVER, THE REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM WAS DENIED UNDER THE PRETEXT, THE PART WAS NOT AN OEM APPROVED HITCH, BUT AT PRESENT DEEMED OK TO DO THE JOB. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE HITCH WAS INSTALLED, CHRYSLER DID NOT HAVE AN APPROVED MANUFACTURED HITCH, AS THE RECALL DID NOT EXIST BACK IN 2006. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATING. THE DEALERS DETERMINED THAT THE FUSE FOR THE COOLING FAN BURNED OUT WHICH CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE . THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUSES. AS CONTACT WAS LEAVING THE DEALERS LOT, THE ENGINE LIGHT IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERS DETERMINED THE PART USED FOR REPLACEMENT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE COMPUTER MODULE OF THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERS REPLACED THE FUSES AND THE ENGINE COMPUTER MODULE. RECENTLY, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN DEALERS WHO DETERMINED THAT A COUPLER ON THE COMPUTER MODULE WAS PRESENTING PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERS BEING SERVICED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FAILED AFTER A PREVIOUS RECALL WAS PERFORMED. WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT A STOP SIGN, THE RIGHT FRONT END DROPPED INTO THE WHEEL WELL CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK UP. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 5 MPH DURING CLEAR AND DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON 07/9/06 WHO DETERMINED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 07/10/06 FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL PERFORMED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN 04/04.
BALL JOINT FAILURE ON 2002 JEEP LIBERTY - RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED IN OCTOBER 2004 BY SZOTT JEEP DEALERSHIP. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD DOING 30 MPH WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT APPEARED TO SEIZE UP AND I STARTED TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STOPPED AND PARKED SAFELY ON THE ROAD. UPON EXAMINATION, THE TIRE HAD BECOME COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE FRAME. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A FAILURE OF THE BALL JOINT. THE FOLLOWING DAMAGE WAS INCURRED TO MY VEHICLE: ARM-LOWER CONTROL, KNUCKLE, TIRE, RIM, FRONT BUMPER AND QUARTER PANEL LOSE. OVERALL TOTALING 1500 DAMAGE. MY INSURANCE PICKED UP THE MAJORITY OF THE CLAIM AND I PAID THE DEDUCTIBLE OF 200.00 PLUS 36.10 FOR THE BALL JOINT. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN 15 MINUTES LATER. I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE AIRPORT. GIVEN THE IMPACT THIS HAD AT 30 MPH I CANNOT COMPREHEND WHAT WOULD HAVE INCURRED AT 70 MPH. MYSELF AND MY BABY WHERE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS ACCIDENT. THE REP FROM BELLE TIRE, THE DEALERSHIP, AND DCX TOLD ME I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *JB

THE LATCH ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT OF MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY IS STUCK IN THE DEPRESSED POSITION AND WILL NOT RELEASE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO WEAR THE SEAT BELT. I CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY. ENDED UP PAYING $300 TO GET IT REPAIRED. I WANT TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS IN PLACE, SO THAT I MAY BE REFUNDED THE MONEY SPENT TO REPAIR. *JB
REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS LEAKING AND WAS FIXED. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN. DEALERSHIP STATES SECOND SET OF NEW GASKETS AND SEALS WERE PUT IN. ALL NUTS AND AROUND GASKETS APPEAR TO BE SEALED WITH SOME TYPE OF BLACK SHINY SEALANT. AGAIN, APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER IT IS LEAKING AGAIN. *JB
