TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY , AND RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. HE CALLED THE DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND THE DEALER STATED THAT CHRYSLER WAS ONLY GIVING OUT THREE (3) PARTS PER WEEK AND HE FELT THAT THAT WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD A FAILURE TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62000 MILES.

CORTLAND DODGE ORDER FOR LOWER BALL JOINTS WAS CANCELED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER SO MY LIBERTY CAN NOT BE FIXED UNTIL ANOTHER SHIPMENT COMES IN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR MANY REASONS, MOST OF ALL SAFETY. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE CHRYSLER PEOPLE AND WAS NOT SATISFIED. I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW SERIOUS THE CAR MANUFACTURERS ARE TAKING THEIR RECALLS. *JB
I OWN A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY FOR WHICH I RECEIVED A LOWER BALL JOINT RECALL ON OCTOBER 4, 2006 FROM CHRYSLER. I TALKED TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED CHRYSLER IS SUPPLYING THEM WITH VERY FEW PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE WAITED A MONTH FOR THE PARTS AND BASED ON THE CURRENT PACE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST ANOTHER MONTH FOR THE DEALER TO GET ENOUGH PARTS TO FIX MY CAR FOR THIS RECALL. IT SEEMS ODD THAT CHRYSLER WOULD ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL FOR A PROBLEM THAT THEY SAY "CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING" AND TAKE OVER 2 MONTHS TO MAKE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO FORCE THEM TO SPEED UP THEIR PRODUCTION OF THE NECESSARY PARTS FOR THIS RECALL? *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON OCTOBER 4, 2006. THE CONTACT TRAVELED 90 MILES ONE WAY, AND HE TOLD THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE WASN'T DRIVING NORMALLY. THE CONTACT REPLACED 2 SETS OF TIRES ,AND HAD SEVERAL ALIGNMENTS, WHICH HAD BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN CORRECTING THE STEERING FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO FOLLOW UP AND SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. HOWEVER, HE WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO WAITING LIST, AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, INCLUDING CALLING THE MANUFACTURER AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER STATING THE APPOINTMENT WAS CANCELLED, AND THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER WHEN SPEAKING WITH A DIFFERENT MECHANIC. HE WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE AT THE DEALER AND TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR ON THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A VOICE MAIL THE DAY BEFORE HIS SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT STATING THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE WASN'T STEERING PROPERLY, AND HADN'T DRIVEN NORMALLY FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEED WASN'T A FACTOR, AFTER DRIVING 5 MILES OR MORE THE VEHICLE DID NOT STEER PROPERLY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 58000.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH ON A STREET, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE LEFT FRONT UPPER BALL JOINT WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL # 06V288000 REGARDING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
TOOK MY CAR IN TO DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND RECENT RECALL INSTALLATION, WAS TOLD MY FRONT BRAKES HAD ABOUT 1,000 MILES LEFT , THIS AT 53,00 MILES. TOOK CAR TO MEINIKE FOR A 2ND OPINION AND FRONT DRUMS COULD BE REGROUND BUT REAR BRAKES WERE SHOT, MECHANICAL FAILURE, EITHER BAD PARTS OR INCORRECT INSTALLATION. I AM FIRST OWNER AND DRIVE 14 MILES TO WORK, TOP SPEED 35 MPH DUE TO BACK ROADS AND TRAFFIC. 5 SPEED STANDARD TRANSMISSION. REPLACED REAR BRAKES. NO WARNING SOUNDS. DEALER UNSYMPATHETIC. NOT WILLING TO LOOK AT DAMAGED BRAKE PARTS, WHICH I KEPT. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 10/02/06, BUT THE RECALL PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE VEHICLE POSED A SERIOUS RISK IF DRIVEN PRIOR TO THE RECALL WORK, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE LACK OF REPLACEMENT PARTS.

THE SERVICE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS WERE ALREADY ON A WAIT LIST AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO WAIT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
CONSUMER TOOK HIS 2002 LIBERTY TO HAVE RECALL WORK DONE AND WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE *TS THE RECALL WAS FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. AS OF 11/13/2006 THE PARTS STILL WEREN'T AVAILABLE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. IN OCTOBER 2006 THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL 03V46000 REGARDING SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND HIS NAME WAS ADDED TO THE WAITING LIST. IN JANUARY 2007, THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS NAME WAS STILL ON THE LIST. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD SPEAK WITH THE DEALER AND CALL THE CONTACT BACK. AS OF APRIL 26, 2007 THE MANUFACTURER HAS FAILED TO CALL HIM BACK, AND HE FELT THE WAIT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WAS TOO LONG. THERE HAVE BEEN NO FAILURES TO DATE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DECELERATING FROM 33 MPH, THE CONTACT TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND IT LOCKED UP. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AS WELL AS THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. ON NOVEMBER 4, 2003, THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE NUMBER 03V460000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT). HE STRONGLY BELIEVES THAT THE CRASH WAS DUE TO THE RECALL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.
ON SEPTEMBER 30,2006 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ON MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. I HAVE CALLED A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO TRY TO GET THIS REPAIR AND HAVE BEEN TOLD OVER AND OVER AND OVER THAT THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE AVAILABLE FOR THIS SERVICE. IT IS NOW FEBRUARY 1,2007 AND I WAS JUST TOLD THAT I AM NUMBER 29 ON A WAITING LIST FOR PARTS THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS DEALERSHIP IS ONLY RECEIVING 3 KITS AT A TIME AND NOT RECEIVING A SHIPMENT EVERY WEEK SO IT WILL STILL BE A LONG WAIT TO MAKE MY JEEP SAFE FOR MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN TO RIDE IN. PERSONALLY I THINK THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! I CALLED THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER CORPORATION AND THEY HAVE A RECORDING TELLING ME TO BE PATIENT AND WORK WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIPS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT LOW SPEEDS ON WET ROADS, THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT ALERTED.

SEPTEMBER, 2006 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY REGARDING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED MY JEEP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD SOLD THE FRANCHISE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. I THEN CALLED THIS DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ONLY RECEIVING 3 REPLACEMENT PARTS AT A TIME AND I WOULD HAVE TO BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST OF APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS. I WAITED FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND CALLED THEM AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THEY HADN'T LOST MY INFORMATION. I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS THIRD ON THE LIST. I WAITED ANOTHER MONTH AND CALLED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICEMAN THAT I WAS STILL ON THE WAITING LIST, BUT THEY HAD JEEPS COMING IN WEEKLY THAT THE WHEELS HAD FALLEN OFF AND THEY TOOK FIRST PREFERENCE. IT IS NOW ANOTHER MONTH AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM YET. IF THE SITUATION IS A S SERIOUS AS WHEELS FALLING OFF AS OFTEN AS THE SERVICEMAN HAS INDICATED, THEN DAIMLER CHRYSLER SHOULD DO MORE TO IMPROVE GETTING THE REPLACEMENT PARTS TO DEALERSHIPS. THE DEALER STATED IN JANUARY THAT THEY ONLY RECEIVED 4 LOWER BALL JOINTS , AND THAT SHE WAS NUMBER 36 ON THE WAITING LIST. THE CONTACT DROVE 80 MILES PER DAY OR MORE ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE CURRENT VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THERE WERE NO OTHER FAILURES AT THIS TIME. *AK
2 WEEKS AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FROM DAIMLER CHRYSLER ON THE JEEP LIBERTY'S LOWER BALL JOINTS. THEY STILL HAVE NOT SENT THE PARTS TO MY DEALERSHIP TO ALLOW ME TO HAVE THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM CORRECTED. *JB
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FORM DAIMLER CHRYSLER REGARDING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LOWER BALL JOINTS OF MY 2002 JEEP LIBERTY. THIS IS THE SECOND RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE! I SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH THE CLOSEST "FIVE STAR" CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TO PERFORM THE RECALL. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP TODAY, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE SAFETY RECALL BECAUSE I DID NOT PURCHASE THE VEHICLE FROM THEM. THEY STATED "THAT THERE WAS A LIMITED NUMBER OF BALL JOINTS AVAILABLE AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO RETURN TO THE DEALER IN WHICH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM." THAT DEALERSHIP IS OVER AN HOUR FROM WHERE I CURRENTLY LIVE, AS I HAVE MOVED SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP THAT REFUSED TO PERFORM THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER RECALL IS: HAYES DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP 719 W PIKE STREET LAWRENCEVILLE, GA 30045 I FIND IT ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT A DEALERSHIP WOULD REFUSE TO PERFORM A COMPANY SAFETY RECALL, THEREFORE PUTTING MYSELF AND MY FAMILY AT RISK. *NM
THERE IS A RECALL ON THE JEEP LIBERTY FOR THE BALL JOINTS. THEY SAID YOU COULD LOOSE STEERING. WELL I CALLED TO GET IT FIXED AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER WILL ONLY SEND THEM 2 PARTS A WEEK. IM 26TH ON THE LIST TO GET REPAIRED. IF THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THEN I WILL NOT GET MY CAR REPAIRED FOR 2 1/2 MONTHS. WHAT AM I TO DRIVE. MY SON WAS DRIVING A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL JAMMED ON HIM APPROACHING A CURVE HE SLAMMED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT SKIDDING UNTIL IT INVADED THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD HIT A TREE(IF NOT FOR THE TREE HE WOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF THE MOUNTAIN SIDE!!). ABOUT 3 OR 4 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE F23 - LOWER BALL JOINTS THAT INDICATED THE BALL JOINTS COULD CORRODE & SEPARATE RESULTING IN A LOSS OF THE STEERING CONTROL. I GOT IN CONTACT WITH THE COMPANY WHERE THEY ASK FOR PICTURES OF THE ACCIDENT (WHICH I E-MAILED TO THEM) BUT CANNOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE (OR WILL FORFEIT ANY CLAIMS THEY SAY)THEREFORE LEAVING ME WITH NO TRANSPORTATION AND STILL HAVING TO PAY THE BANK THE CAR LOAN. I HAVE A 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED ED. WHICH I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN LAST YEAR2006. THIS ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO A RECALL OF THE BALL JOINT. I DIDN'T RECIEVE THE RECALL LETTER UNTIL 2 WEEKS AFTER MY ACCIDENT THAT MADE ME TOTTALY UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS. I TURNED THE ACCIDENT OVER TO MY INS. CO. TO FIGHT WHILE MY CAR SAT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. ACCIDENT DETAILS: AT APROX. 45 MPH THE WHEELS LOCKED UP DUE TO THE BALL JOINT ROD RUBBING A HOLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL HOUSING BRINGING THE CAR WHEELS TO LOCK UP. ( ANY FASTER THE CAR PROBABLY WOULD HAVE FLIPPED. IT TOOK 3.5 MONTHS OF MY INS. CO. ARGUING WITH CHRYSLER OVER THE ISSUE BEFORE THEY ACCEPTED RESPONSIBLITY EVEN THOUGH IT WAS OBVIOUS FAULT. MY CONCERN NOW IS I WENT TO TRADE IN THE CAR THIS WEEK AND THE DAMAGE OVER $2500 MAJORILY REDUCED THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE. (WHICH I DID EXPRESS AFTER THE ACCIDENT) I WAS OFFERED ONLY$5000 WITH NORMAL TRADE IN WOULD GO FOR $8000-$9000. ( THE LOW TRADE IN VALUE I WAS TOLD BY THE SALES MANAGER DUE TO THE ACCIDENT) I FEEL CHRYSLERS DELAY OF FAULT AND NON-COMPENSATION OF VEHICLE VALUE LOSS IS VERY POOR BUSINESS, ESPECIALLY THEM BEING A LARGE FINANCIALLY STABLE AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURE DISHONEST WITH A MIDDLE CLASS CHRYSLER DRIVER/WORKER.
