'03 JEEP LIBERTY UPPER LEFT HAND BALL JOINT FAILED AND SEPARATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT LOW SPEED IN A TURN. THE UPPER CONTROL LEFT FRONT CONTROL ARM WAS REPLACED. *JB
I HAVE AN '03 JEEP LIBERTY AND 2 YEARS AFTER WE BOUGHT IT, WE STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE IGNITION CYLINDER. IT STARTED TO FREEZE UP AND WOULD NOT TURN SOME TIMES,UNTIL IT GOT TO THE PLACE IT WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. SO WE TOOK IT TO DADE JEEP CHRYSLER IN SOUTH MIAMI,FL..AND SO THEY REPLACE THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND TUNBLERS [SUPPOSEDLY]. AND THAT WAS IN '05 AND HERE WE ARE IN '08, AND WE'RE HAVING THE SAME IDENTICAL PROBLEM AGAIN. AND THEIR TELLING ME I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER IGNITION. THE JEEP IS JUST 5YRS. OLD. I CAN REMEMBER WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THAT WOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD AT A HIGH SPEED. HE CALLED A TOWING SERVICE THAT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK. THE TOWING SERVICE WAS ABLE TO FREE THE THROTTLE CABLE, AND TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEREFORE, NO REPAIRS WERE DONE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP LIBERTY ON THE FREEWAY I SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD CLANKING NOISE. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME I REALIZED MY ENGINE WAS DEAD AND I COASTED OFF OF THE FREEWAY. MY JEEP WOULD NOT RESTART AND I HAD TO HAVE ASSISTANCE TO PUSH IT TO A GAS STATION. I CALLED A TOWING COMPANY AND HAD IT TOWED TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TREATED VERY RUDELY AND HORRIBLY OVER A 3 TO 4 WEEK PERIOD WHERE THEY REQUESTED NUMEROUS OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS AND BERATED ME OVER THE PHONE EACH TIME I CALLED TO CHECK THE PROGRESS OF MY VEHICLE. AFTER PROVIDING THEM WITH MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS CHRYSLER STILL HAD THE AUDACITY TO TURN DOWN THE CLAIM. I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3 THOUSAND MILES WITH RECEIPTS TO PROVE IT. THEY ARE ACCUSING ME FAULTY MAINTENANCE AND REFUSE TO FIX THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE HAS 41,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE A 70,000 MILE WARRANTY. ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS? *JB
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON INTERNET TO SEE IF CAN FIND PART AND THIS LOOKS LIKE IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE AT LEAST 2005 WITH THESE VEHICLES I KNOW MINE HAS A RIP IN THE BOOT AND THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT HAS A LOT OF PLAY IN IT I DON'T KNOW IF IT COULD LOCK UP AND FLIP THE VEHICLE OR NOT BUT IT REALLY CAN NOT BE ALL THE SAFE AND ALSO THE LOCKS NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON THEM THIS IS ALSO A ONGOING PROBLEM BUT MAINLY THE DRIVE SHAFT. YOU PUT IT IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AND IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE GOING UP A HILL ON A OLD WOODEN ROLLER COASTER WOULD BEST DESCRIBE IT. THE VEHICLE IS NOT TAKEN FOUR WHEELING ONLY USED WHEN IT SNOWS AND I HAVE TO USE IT. *TR
LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE EXTREMELY WORN. STEERING FELT LOOSE AND VEHICLE WAS "WANDERING" ON THE HIGHWAY A LOT, MAKING IT HARD TO STAY IN MY LANE AND KEEP MY COURSE. ORIGINAL RECALL PERFORMED OVER 20,000 MILES AGO WHICH ONLY CONSISTED OF HEAT SHIELDS BEING INSTALLED. I BROUGHT IN THE JEEP AND DEALER AGREED WITH LBJ FAILURE AND REPLACED THEM UNDER RECALL NOTICE. *NM
WHILE TRAVELING RT. 36 ABOUT 10 MILES SOUTH OF ROARING SPRINGS, PA MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I HAD NO BRAKING CONTROL. I SWERVED ACROSS THE 2 LANE HIGHWAY ONTO THE BERM, FOR FEAR OF HITTING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL THAT I LATER FOUND TO BE A BROKEN TIE ROD ON THE RIGHT FRONT. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED IN A CIRCULAR MANNER AT AN EXCESSIVE SPEED AND WITH TWO FEET PRESSING ON THE BRAKE. I COULD NOT STOP. EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A STONE EMBANKMENT AND FELL ABOUT 15 FEET AND FINALLY CAME TO REST ON A PLATEAU JUST ABOVE A CREEKBED. BECAUSE OF A MULTIPLICITY OF VERY LARGE STONES, EVERY PANEL OF THE JEEP LIBERTY WAS SEVERELY, WITH ONE EXCEPTION AND THAT WAS THE ROOF. MY WIFE AND I WERE SERIOUSLY AND HURT AND TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE THE CLOSEST TRAUMA CENTER, THE ALTOONA HOSPITAL. MY WIFE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BROKEN BACK AND I WAS INTENSIVE CARE. THE STATE POLICE INTERVIEWED ME OVER THE PHONE WHILE I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL AND BECAUSE OF THE UNEXPLAINED NATURE OF THE ACCIDENT, DECIDED TO WRITE ME UP FOR EXCESSIVE SPEED. THEY ALSO CHARGED ME TWO POINTS ON MY LICENSE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED BY A USAA AUTHORIZED APPRAISER. I NEVER CONTACTED YOU, BUT I DID CONTACT USAA AND TOLD THEM SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS HAPPENED TO THAT VEHICLE. THE GREAT PUBLICITY OF THE RUNAWAY TOYOTAS MADE ME RECALL THIS INCIDENT. *TR
(1) DRIVING BACK FROM A CAMPING TRIP IN DEATH VALLEY, CA. (2) COMPLETE SEPARATION OF THE LOWER RIGHT BALL JOINT WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION. (3) I HAD THE VEHICLE TOW TO A REPAIR SHOP AND HAD BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL LETTER 06V288000 FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON A 2003 CHRYSLER JEEP LIBERTY. SHE WAS PUT ON A WAITING LIST ON 11/21/06, BUT THE CONTACT HAS NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN OCTOBER 2003, SHE BEGAN TO HAVE BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE GEAR BECAUSE SHE WOULD HEAR GRINDING NOISES WHICH, HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR ON 10/13/05, AND THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE LEFT REAR CALIPER FREEZING AND CAUSING THE LEFT REAR BRAKE PAD TO DAMAGE THE ROTOR. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE. ON OCTOBER 7, 2005 IT WAS RAINING AND IT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HYDRO-PLANE. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH THE BRAKES SKIDDED, AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HIT A TREE. WHEN SHE HIT THE TREE BOTH FRONTAL AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND UNABLE TO RETURN TO WORK FOR THE TIME BEING. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT THE AIRBAGS HAD TO MEET CERTAIN CONDITIONS BEFORE THEY WOULD DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CLAIMED THAT VEHICLE HIT IN A WAY THAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR SHOULD HAVE PICKED IT UP. THE CONTACT REQUESTED THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND MANUFACTURER SHOULD INVESTIGATE IT. *AK
AFTER A FLAT ON 9/30 OF THIS YEAR, I PURCHASED A NEW SET (4) OF GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST TIRES, SIZE P215/75/16, THROUGH MY JEEP DEALER. WITHIN A DAY OF LIGHT USE, MY 2003 LIBERTY SPORT STARTED TO EXHIBIT UNSETTLED HANDLING BEHAVIORS. THE VEHICLE PULLS STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT WHERE IT DID NOT BEFORE THE TIRE REPLACEMENT, THE VEHICLE FEELS MUSHY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND IS NOW VERY HARD TO KEEP GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE FEELING OF LACK OF CONTROL IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN TRYING TO NEGOTIATE A LEFT TURN AT SPEED (THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO WANT TO CONTINUE TO GO STRAIGHT OR LEFT AND, VERY NOTICEABLE UNDER STEER IS PRESENT). THE JEEP FEELS VERY UNSETTLED EVERYTIME THE GRADE ON THE ROAD CROWN CHANGES ALONG TURNS ON BACK ROADS AND IS NOTICEABLE ENOUGH TO COMPEL ME TO SLOW DOWN FROM NORMAL SPEED LIMITS. WHEN TRAVELING 55 MPH AND ABOVE THE FEELING OF LOSS OF CONTROL COMES ON WITH VERY MINOR CHANGES ON STRAIGHT ROAD SURFACES. THERE IS ALSO VIBRATION AND NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT AREA OF THE SUSPENSION (COMES AND GOES IN PROPORTION TO LOSS OF CONTROL). THE VEHICLE HAS 70,000 MILES AND IS ON ITS' THIRD SET OF THESE TIRES (THE ONLY ONE THAT FITS THE ODDBALL STANDARD RIM) BUT, THIS IS THE FIRST SET OF THESE TIRES THAT HAVE LEFT ME NOT WANTING TO USE THE TRUCK FOR ANYTHING. I CHECKED TIRE PRESSURES AND WHEEL LUGS FOR TIGHTNESS BUT, FOUND NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 4 DAYS (AND 100 MILES) SAYING AFTERWARDS THAT IT NEEDED ONLY A WHEEL ALIGNMENT (TOE-IN WAS OUT) AFTER STATING THAT IT WAS ALRIGHT WHEN THE SOLD ME THE TIRES 3 DAYS EARLIER; THEY ALSO CHECKED THEIR WHEEL BALANCING JOB AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. THEY WENT ON THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH ANY SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AND THAT MY TRUCK BEHAVED LIKE MANY OTHER LIBERTYS. THEIR WORK ABATED THE RIGHT PULLING A BIT BUT, THE BEHAVIOR STILL VARIES IN INTENSITY WITH ROAD CHANGES. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE EVEN ON DRY ROADS. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY OPEN AND COULD NOT BE CLOSED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A CONTINUAL OCCURRENCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.... UPDATED 10/17/11 *BF THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR $115 COPAY. CHRYSLER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE FREE OF CHARGE ON JAN 10, 2011. THEN FIXED IT SIX MONTHS LATER. THE WINDOW HAS SINCE FALLEN INTO THE DOOR AGAIN. UPDATED 10/28/11
2003 JEEP LIBERTY BALL JOINTS REPLACED APPROX. 45,000 MILES UNDER MANUFACTURER RECALL, AT THAT TIME VEHICLE WAS MAKING SIGNIFICANT ROAD NOISE FROM THE FRONT END SUSPENSION. DEALER REPLACED LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY AT THAT TIME. APPROX. 66,000 MILES VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER TO FIND SOURCE OF FRONT END NOISE AGAIN, DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE AND STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. APPROX. 71,000 MILES VEHICLE TAKEN BACK TO DEALER FOR SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING WORSE. I HAD A FACTORY AUTHORIZED REPAIR TECHNICIAN GO ON A TEST DRIVE WITH ME ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2005. WITHIN ABOUT A MINUTE OF THE TEST DRIVE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY AND THAT HE BELIEVED THE RECALL HAD BEEN EXTENDED TO LIFETIME. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2005. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE THE MAJORITY OF THE DAY AND COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY STATED THAT THE BALL JOINTS LOOKED FINE. ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 2ND, 2005 THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FAILED. FORTUNATELY IT WAS A SPEED OF UNDER 5 MPH AS WE WERE TURNING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SUSPENSION HAD COLLAPSED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP SUNDAY EVENING. CURRENTLY WAITING ON THE DEALERSHIPS RESPONSE. THIS IS A REPEAT FAILURE AND A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT TO DATE THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHOSEN TO IGNORE. *JB
DT: ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 SMELLED GAS WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT IT DID TURN OVER. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR TWO DAYS . CONSUMER GOT BACK INTO VEHICLE AND SMELLED GAS AGAIN, HOWEVER, CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE, AND THEN PARKED IT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND THAT WAS WHEN THE AIR PRESSURE COVER BLEW OUT AND THE AIR FILTER WAS HELD DOWN WITH METAL CLAMPS. IT CUT THE INSTALLATION IN THE HOOD OF THE CAR. HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THEY REPLACED THE AIR FILTER, TWO CRANK SENSOR CAMS, SIX SPARK PLUGS, ONE MAP SENSOR, ONE INJECTOR, AND AIR BOX AND SIX IGNITION COILS. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY SAID THAT THE CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TAKEN IT TO A LOCAL DEALER, AND THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND RMPS WERE GOING UP AND DOWN. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER OWENS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 03V460000 ON THE BALL JOINTS. THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING AT 50 MPH AND THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE DROPPED TO THE GROUND. THE LIBERTY PULLED THE CONSUMER SEVERELY, AND SHE WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND KEPT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS METAL DEBRIS ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERS THAT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS BENT AND SPLIT IN HALF, THERE WERE A COUPLE OF BARS HANGING OUT. THE TIRE WAS HALF OFF THE WHEEL BASE, AND THERE WAS FLUID LEAKING FROM THE CAR. THE RECALL WAS ON THE SUSPENSION; FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT. THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICEMAN TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILED, SEPARATED AND PULLED AWAY FROM THE SUSPENSION. THIS WAS THE BALL JOINT THAT HAD BEEN REPLACED ON THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLING CHRYSLER. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT DAIMLER/CHRYSLER WOULD CALL THE CONSUMER. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT USED OFF ROAD, OR ABUSED IN ANY WAY. THE TRUCK WAS USED TO DRIVE TO WORK AND HOME AND USED FOR DRIVING IN THE SNOW. THE CONSUMER WAS SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP EXPECTED HER TO TAKE OFF IN VEHICLE AND KEEP IT. THE CONSUMER WAS LUCKY THAT SHE WAS NOT INJURED OR KILLED IN THIS INCIDENT. *AK
DT: THE CALLER FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON BALL JOINTS. HE HAD IT CHECKED, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON THE WAY HOME THE PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE FELL OFF, AND THE LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED. CALLER WAS DRIVING 20 MPH. THE CALLER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT WIFE WAS DRIVING A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY,WHEN THE VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE IS AT A BODY SHOP TO GET AN ESTIMATE ON THE REPAIRS. THE SERVICE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, BUT HAS NOT RETURNED ANY CALLS. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER YET. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS. THE CONSUMER STATES THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED INDICATING ANY PROBLEMS. *AK
DURING AN AUTO ACCIDENT WHERE I WAS SIDE SWIPED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THE 3/4 SEAT ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE UNLATCHED AND FOLDED DOWN. *JB
DT: ON AUGUST 13, 2005 THE CONSUMER'S SON WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHILE TURNING RIGHT AND PRESSING ON THE BRAKES ,WHICH ACTED LIKE A SPONGE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, CAUSING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE TO SLIDE INTO THE CURB. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNSURE OF WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS DUE TO A DRIVER ERROR. SOMEONE CAME OUT FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND DID A REPORT ON THE VEHICLE. THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE THE INFORMATION TO THE CONSUMER. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS RECALL 03V460000 CONCERNING LOWER BALL JOINT. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY TOLD HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2004 THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED RECALL REPAIRS BY ONLY REPLACING THE HEAT SHIELD AND NOT THE BALL JOINT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT BOTH PARTS OF THE RECALL WERE NOT PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *AK *NM
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL ON THE BALL JOINTS AND THEY SERVICED THE VEHICLE. BUT ON AUGUST 10, 2005 WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 10-15 MPH THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON DRIVER'S SIDE FELL OUT. ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES AFTERWARDS WHILE DRIVING ON A VERY BUSY PARKWAY AT ABOUT 55-65 MPH AND IF THE BALL JOINT FELL OUT THE RECALL WORK DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM . *AK
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CRANK SENSOR FAILED. THE CONTACT HAS SEEN OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. WHEN THE CRANK SENSOR FAILS THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AND CUT OFF, CAUSING A LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKE POWER. FOR INSTANCE ONE CAN BE GOING 60 MPH AND THE VEHICLE WILL JUST STOP. THERE IS NO WARNING OR LIGHTS TO WARN HIM. THE CRANK SENSOR FAILED AND VEHICLE WILL STOP. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTERWARDS BUT IT AUTOMATICALLY RESET I SELF, CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF IN THIRTY MINUTES. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS JEEP. ALWAYS DETECTED A ROTTEN EGG SMELL DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS THE GAS. AFTER 1 YEAR OF OWNERSHIP DRIVING IT IN PENNSYLVANIA I COULD NOT GO UP HILL WITHOUT LOSING GROUND AND SMELLING SOMETHING BURNING. DEALER UNABLE DIAGNOSE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND ONLY HAVE 34,000 MILES ON THE CAR. ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE AND BURNING SMELL ON TWO OCCASIONS, ALSO DEALER IS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENED BUT IT WAS AN ISSUE FROM LOWER BALL JOINTS AND CONSUMER FEELS THIS RECALL REPAIR WORK MAY HAVE NOT BEEN PERFORMED PROPERLY. REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO VEHICLE BY DEALERSHIP. CONSUMER DID CONTACT CHRYSLER WHO SAID IT WAS THE DEALERS RESPONSIBILITY NOT THEIRS. *NM
MY JEEP LIBERTY WAS BROADSIDED (LEFT SIDE) BY A VEHICLE THAT RAN A RED LIGHT. MY VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT THE TIME OF THE COLISION, THE OTHER VEHILE WAS TRAVELING AT 45-50 MPH. THE POINT OF IMACT WAS THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND FRONT FENDER. THE LEFT FRONT TIRE/WHEEL/SPINDLE WAS TORN OFF THE VEHILE UPON IMPACT. THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURIED AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE. DAIMLERCHRYSLER WAS CONTACTED AND DID INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENT. THE LETTER SUMMARIZING THEIR INVESTIGATION STATED THE FOLLOWING: "OUR TEST CONFIRM THAT THE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM IN YOUR VEHILE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY FOR THE CONDITIONS TO WHICH IT WAS EXPOSED. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE NEVER REACHED THE LEVEL OF DECELERATION REQUIRED TO ACTIVATE DEPLOYMENT." I HAVE MADE REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT DAIMIERCHRYSLER TO EXPLAIN THIS STATEMENT BUT HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHILCLE WAS TOTALLED AND HAS BEEN TURNED OVER TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY.

THE SKID MARKS STARTED AFTER HE TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 14 FEET, AND WERE APPROXIMATELY 34 FEET LONG BEFORE HE HIT THE CURB. THERE WAS ANOTHER 2 FEET BETWEEN THE CURB AND THE WALL. IT DAMAGED THE BUMPER, TORE OFF RIGHT FRONT FENDER, CRUMPLED THE RIGHT FRONT QUARTER PANEL, DAMAGED SOME OF THE LIGHTS, FLATTENED BOTH FRONT TIRES, AND BROKE THE RIGHT RIM. HE CONTACTED CHRYSLER, AND FILED A COMPLAINT. CHRYSLER SENT AN ENGINEER TO EXAMINE THE COLLISION , AND AFTERWARDS THEY SENT A LETTER DENYING OUR CLAIM.
